Latest / The Daily Sarcast / June 9th, 2026: The Adidas Controversy, A Major Heat Wave And First Day Back Of Being Unemployed
Transcript
- 0:00Today's episode is sponsored by the guys who actually listen to my podcast after
- 0:05I put it on my Hinge profile.
- 0:07I've always felt that it's not a realistic thing. James Bond was written how
- 0:11he was written for a reason, but I was complimented by it.
- 0:14And also, I think in realistic terms, some markets just don't go for that.
- 0:18Bond is big all over the world, and audiences won't all go for a black male
- 0:23and African male playing Bond.
- 0:24That's not what they like in their culture, period.
- 0:28Idris Elba on never thinking that a Black actor being cast as James Bond was realistic.
- 0:34Insert theme song here. This is the Daily Circast. I give you the news and maybe
- 0:38a laugh. I'm Lindsay Vernick and it's June 9th, 2026.
- 0:42In real news, six people were stabbed in Penn Station on Sunday night.
- 0:47Police say a suspect is in custody after the attack, which happened around 7
- 0:52p.m. inside one of the busiest transit hubs in the country.
- 0:56One victim suffered serious injuries, while the others are expected to recover pretty quickly.
- 1:01And if you've never been there, which is really crazy, but maybe you haven't,
- 1:05Penn Station is where New Yorkers and everybody else in the world go to test their patients.
- 1:10You walk in looking for a train to Long Island, and 20 minutes later,
- 1:14you're still looking for it.
- 1:16The attack happened as the city was getting ready for huge crowds on MSG for
- 1:20the NBA Finals, which was last night, and they'll be again tomorrow night.
- 1:26Because, you know, the area wasn't chaotic enough already.
- 1:30So the suspect is in custody. The investigation is ongoing, and New Yorkers
- 1:34are doing what they always do best.
- 1:37Weeding impatiently for their train, getting an overpriced coffee,
- 1:40and pretending that absolutely none of this is affecting them.
- 1:44Mexicans spent the last few weeks furious after a viral video accused Adidas
- 1:49of exploiting indigenous women who helped make special world cup jerseys that
- 1:53sell for as high as 285 dollars,
- 1:57so there's these activists that are claiming that these women are being underpaid
- 2:01and used as marketing props while Adidas is just cashing in on it,
- 2:05this story exploded online politicians got involved, and everybody was super angry about all of it.
- 2:12So then a bunch of reporters went and actually just talked to the women who
- 2:16were making these shirts.
- 2:18And the women were basically like, can everyone please try to stop helping us?
- 2:23The people making the shirts told reporters that they like this work,
- 2:27the pay is better than their alternatives, the hours are flexible,
- 2:31and they're now worried the outrage could actually just cost them future jobs.
- 2:36So this creates one of the most awkward moments on the internet,
- 2:40when the people you're defending keep asking you to stop defending them.
- 2:44This entire controversy has turned into a debate over a question no one can agree on.
- 2:49If someone says they're happy with their job, are they actually happy with their
- 2:52job? Or are strangers on TikTok better qualified to answer the question?
- 2:57It's the modern internet in a nutshell. A woman in a mountain village said,
- 3:02This job helps me support my family.
- 3:05And then an influencer responds actually let me explain your lived experience
- 3:09to you so the lesson here is pretty simple before becoming outraged on behalf
- 3:14of other people it may be worth checking out whether they actually need your help or not,
- 3:19it's kind of like someone coming to my new york city apartment and being mind
- 3:23blown about how much i'm paying and tell me that i should live somewhere else
- 3:27like maybe this is my best option and this is what's best for me you know you get the gist.
- 3:34So millions of Americans are about to get their first real taste of summer this
- 3:37week as major heat waves move across the country.
- 3:41Apparently, temperatures could run 10 to 20 degrees above normal,
- 3:45and parts of the Midwest and Great Plains might get triple-digit temps.
- 3:50And by the end of the week, the heat will move east, with cities from New York
- 3:54to the Carolinas expected to approach record highs.
- 3:58So congrats to everyone who spent the last six months complaining about winter.
- 4:02Your reward is now having to shower at least once a day and complaining that
- 4:06you're sticky and hot literally all the time.
- 4:09In New York, temperatures are expected to climb into the 90s with humidity,
- 4:13making it feel even hotter, which means we're entering that magical season where
- 4:18the subway platform feels like the waiting room for hell.
- 4:22Meteorologists are urging people to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged time outdoors,
- 4:26and check on vulnerable neighbors. Solid advice.
- 4:30I'd also recommend lowering your standards for personal appearances.
- 4:34Nobody looks good in 97 degrees or hotter. We're all just trying to survive.
- 4:39The good news is the heat wave should ease up by the weekend.
- 4:42The bad news is that this is just the warm-up act.
- 4:46Summer hasn't even officially started yet.
- 4:48In Lindsay life, well, happy first day of unemployment to me. I survived it.
- 4:55I filed for unemployment at a
- 4:58bar, drinking a horchato, which is essentially a glass of milk, at 2 p.m.
- 5:05Lindsay Lessons, a lesson by Linz. If you try waiting for everyone around you
- 5:09to be normal, you will wait your entire life.
- 5:12Cooking tip of the day. Ice cream for dinner in the summer is literally the best.
- 5:17Feedback, comments, questions, a nice Jewish boy looking for a date,
