  but there what I am excited about is that there might be

  reason for hope in this case. So much time has passed.

  I, I feel like I have been losing hope.

  But there is a reason to be hopeful that someday we will

  find Nancy Guthrie, that she may still be alive.

  And that is coming from somebody who ought to know.

  I, as you guys know, I hail from Northern California, from the

  Sacramento, CA area, and my dad, who has been active in the

  interfaith community there for, I don't know, a couple decades,

  I guess. And, and has been facing and

  battling for his life against cancer.

  Was honored as kind of the, the reason for all the old gang to
• 2:39
  get back together and have a reunion.

  And it was delightful to be there.

  I I had AI had a difficult trip back, but I had to remind
• 2:49
  myself, hey, you just crossed the entire country.

  You did it in a day, so your bags didn't show up or so you're
• 2:55
  a couple hours late. Not the end to stop being
• 2:57
  grumpy. Gavin had to do that.

  Had to have conversations with myself.

  But yeah, I got to spend some time with both of my sisters,

  with my folks and some dear, dear friends of the family who
• 3:13
  we know through my dad's efforts on the Interfaith Council of
• 3:17
  Greater Sacramento. So it it was awesome.

  It was awesome. I also got to see a how would I
• 3:26
  describe her? She's like a kid sister.

  She's not my she's not my actual sister.

  She was once married to my brother-in-law, but I've known
• 3:36
  her since she was a teenager and I just love her to death.

  So I got to spend some time up in the mountains with her, got
• 3:41
  to talk to an old friend, you know, on the phone, catch up.

  That was awesome. It was AI got to have got to
• 3:49
  have a little business meeting. So yeah, I, I, I had 10 gallons

  of things to do and a 5 gallon trip stick them in.

  So it was great. And thank you guys for sticking

  Monday was the big day for my dad's event and yesterday was my

  travel day. So couldn't couldn't live

  talking about, shall we? This is the case of missing
• 4:36
  person Nancy Guthrie. Of course, Nancy Guthrie was or
• 4:41
  is I? It's hard to say, but let's say
• 4:45
  is because she always will be the mother of Today Show Co host
• 4:50
  Savannah Guthrie, a person in the United States of some some
• 4:54
  fame, some notoriety because she she anchors one of the nation's
• 5:01
  most popular daytime television or morning time television
• 5:03
  shows. Nancy Guthrie was seen she she
• 5:10
  went to dinner with her family on January 31st and that was a
• 5:16
  Saturday and then was slated to attend church services either in
• 5:21
  person or remotely, doesn't really matter.
• 5:23
  I've never really figured out what if she was doing it in
• 5:27
  person doesn't really matter. But she she did not show and
• 5:33
  people in the congregation are like, what the devil contacted
• 5:36
  the family? The family went over there and
• 5:37
  we're like, we got an issue here now.
• 5:41
  And she's been missing ever since.
• 5:43
  And of course, you guys know that the FBI, you know, released
• 5:46
  images of this prowling guy in the early morning hours of
• 5:51
  February 1st wearing gloves, wearing a backpack, wearing a
• 5:56
  mask. And you know this, he's fooling
• 6:02
  around with the with the nest camera on the front of the on
• 6:05
  the front of the house. That camera was was found to be
• 6:09
  missing and there has been a lot of hubbub around Nancy's house
• 6:15
  and Nancy's case for very, very understandable, let's say
• 6:21
  reasons that you don't you don't take an octogenarian from their
• 6:27
  bed in the middle of the night. This is not something that
• 6:31
  happens. This is not something that just
• 6:33
  happens, right? And you know, kidnapping is a
• 6:39
  thing that in the states is kind of, I mean, it happens, but it
• 6:45
  but it's called kidnapping because they are kiddos that are
• 6:49
  the victims of this, not women in their 80s.
• 6:54
  And so and of course, ransom notes came in and we found out
• 6:59
  that some of them were just people trying to take advantage
• 7:02
  of the situation, people without scruples it right.
• 7:07
  So were there were there? Was this for ransom?
• 7:13
  I'm sorry. Savannah Guthrie says she thinks
• 7:14
  probably yes. But was she taken to Mexico?
• 7:20
  Was she taken out of Arizona? Was she known to or were her
• 7:25
  kidnapper or kidnappers known to her?
• 7:28
  There are just so many questions surrounding this.

  And the biggest question I think that we all have is because the

  Sheriff's Department seems to have had to be convinced that
• 7:44
  there was something nefarious going on here.

  And according to FBI Director Cash Patel, in over the last
• 7:52
  couple of days, they were kept in the dark by the Sheriff's
• 7:56
  Department for something like 4 days.
• 7:59
  Now we're we're going to read, we're going to read what

  Director Patel said. But I, I do think that it's
• 8:06
  important to at least recognize, you know, I'm an apolitical
• 8:12
  show, but at least recognize that there are political
• 8:17
  incentives here, right? The, the director of the FBI is
• 8:20
  not necessarily the world's greatest investigator.

  It is a political appointment. So I mean, and that's any,
• 8:30
  that's any director of the FBI start, well, starting with
• 8:35
  Hoover, I was going to say maybe excluding Hoover, but no, it

  wasn't excluding Hoover that that dude was a politician.

  So so there are incentives that are at play here that that are

  political in nature. So who knows?

  months ago from her Tucson, AZ home.

  She was last seen on January 31st and was reported missing on
• 15:15
  February 1st after a friend called the family to tell them

  she wasn't at church in a podcast interview with Sean
• 15:21
  Hannity on Tuesday. Sean Hannity still has a show.

  You know, it has been so long since I've watched cable news.

  It's more like cable news commentary.

  And I have to tell you guys, I this is.

  would keep up to date on the latest everything.

  And so I would, I would watch the only one I didn't well,

  I would watch news and commentary on at least three

  cable news networks and then one major, like one of the major,

  RealClearPolitics. I would read everything there

  and then I would go to SCOTUS blog and I would read everything

  there, get out of the opinions I was like, and then I had a

  couple of podcasts that I listened to that were the same

  thing. What I, I, I fell into this

  accidentally. I learned that, hey, if it's not
• 16:41
  important 48 hours later, it wasn't important to begin with.

  And So what I started doing is listening to the podcast I was

  listening to later, I, I would listen to them like 48 hours

  late. And then as I was listening to
• 16:59
  them, I'd be going, I don't really care about this.

  I guess I don't, I guess it's not important.

  So now, like I'm telling you, if you, if, if you are a person

  that is consuming cable news and you are miserable and always

  kind of worked up, maybe not miserable, maybe just kind of

  investigation. Patel claimed.

  But Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos is disputing what Patel

  said. The sheriff department posted a
• 18:07
  statement from Nanos on X that said a member of the FBI task

  force was on the scene the night Guthrie was first reported
• 18:15
  missing. And I have that, by the way, I
• 18:18
  have that right here. We can just read it.

  We don't have to read a characterization of it.

  OK. So here is the statement.

  Let me let me come up on it a little bit, OK.

  Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos is aware of FBI Director Cash

  Patel's recent interview and statement.

  Sheriff Nanos responded to the scene the night of the incident.

  Provided or providing immediate local leadership and oversight.

  A member of the FBI task force was also notified and present at
• 18:48
  the scene, working alongside our personnel.

  You know, the way that was written, I'm not, I'm not clear
• 18:58
  that an FBI task force member was there that night.

  The, I mean, I mean, again, this, these are politicians,
• 19:10
  right? So you got to parse the words
• 19:12
  carefully. A member of the FBI task force
• 19:15
  was also notified and present at the scene, working alongside her
• 19:19
  personnel. But when was that person at the

  scene? If you if you read the the
• 19:26
  sentence before, it makes you feel like it was that night.

  But I mean, if I were an if I were an editor and I was editing

  this piece that a reporter sent to me, I would say that's
• 19:38
  unclear. You have not made that clear.

  And because it's political, I kind of feel like it's unclear
• 19:46
  on purpose, but that's just me. OK.

  The FBI was promptly notified by both our department and the
• 19:52
  Guthrie family. While the FBI director was not
• 19:55
  on scene, coordination with the Bureau began without delay.

  Again, when did it begin? If he's saying four days, you

  need to say when it began. Unless it was 4 days and he he
• 20:09
  didn't. There he was.

  He was ambiguous. Decisions regarding evidence
• 20:15
  processing were made on scene based on operational needs.

  The laboratory utilized by the Pima County Sheriff's Department
• 20:22
  and the FBI laboratory in Quantico have worked in close
• 20:25
  partnership from the outset and continue to collaborate in the
• 20:29
  analysis of evidence. And that was one of the things
• 20:31
  that Patel said was they didn't use our lab.
• 20:33
  It's best in the world, they didn't use our lab.

  We could have flown it could have flown the evidence directly
• 20:37
  to our lab. We remain committed to a
• 20:41
  thorough, coordinated and fact based investigation and we'll
• 20:44
  continue working closely with our federal partners as the
• 20:47
  process moves forward. Chris Nanos, that's what he

  So they gave a little bit of the statement, but we just, we just

  read that. Two days later, the Pima County
• 21:03
  Sheriff's Department held a news conference with the FBI.

  Quote. When we were finally let in,

  Sean, look what we did, Patel said on the podcast.

  We went in and got the doorbell video and we said, hey, is
• 21:16
  anyone talking to Google? Patel said he spoke with Google
• 21:20
  leadership and within days received the chilling images of
• 21:22
  a suspect described as a man of average build with an
• 21:26
  approximate height of five foot 9 or 5 foot 10 outside Guthrie's
• 21:30
  home. The man was wearing a face mask
• 21:33
  and images taken from Guthrie's doorbell camera video and had
• 21:36
  gloves and a black Ozark Trail Hiker Pack backpack, the FBI
• 21:40
  said. Patel also criticized local
• 21:43
  officials for not using the FBI's lab in Quantico to analyze
• 21:46
  DNA evidence. We had a fixed wing aircraft on
• 21:50
  the ground ready to move it immediately through the night,
• 21:52
  Patel said. And they say we're sending it to
• 21:54
  Florida. In his ex post, Nanos wrote the
• 21:59
  department's decisions regarding evidence processing were based
• 22:03
  on scene or were made on scene based on operational needs.

  Again, what does that even mean? So, and I'm not a person.
• 22:12
  I, I, I, I don't want to pick sides on this.

  And it's not because I'm wishy washy or a fence sitter.

  Oh my goodness, that reminds me of a no don't do it, Gavin.

  Don't tangent, OK? It's not because I'm being a

  fence sitter. It's because I got 2 politicians

  here and, and I don't trust either of them I guess is what

  really what it boils down to, right?

  I mean, what is Patel? What, what is the, what is the
• 22:42
  incentive for Patel to be talking about this anyway?

  Is he feeling some pressure that the FBI screwed up some sort?

  And so he wants to deflect blame over to Pima County Sheriff's
• 22:53
  who have plenty of blame, I think, Right.

  I mean, I think they've kind of bumbled it along the way.

  The Sheriff Deputies Association sure thinks they have.

  But also decisions regarding evidence processing, quote, were
• 23:09
  made on scene based on operational needs. close quote.

  Huh. I don't even know what that
• 23:16
  means. OK, As the search for answers
• 23:22
  continues, Guthrie's family has been cleared of any involvement
• 23:25
  in her disappearance, according to investigators.
• 23:26
  So that is CB, s s version. Now ABC has a version as well.

  Let me just see if there's I'll just kind of yada, yada.

  This a little bit. Yeah.

  He claims that the investigation, they were kept
• 23:41
  out of it for the first four days.

  OK, blah, blah, blah, for four days we were kept out of the
• 23:51
  investigation, Patel said on Sean Hannity's podcast on the FB
• 23:55
  is lack of involvement in the initial days of the Guthrie
• 23:57
  investigation. Quote, the first 48 hours of
• 24:00
  anyone's disappearance are the most critical close quote.

  Yeah, we have Quantico, best lab in the world, Patel said, adding
• 24:09
  an aircraft ready to move it immediately through the night.

  He added. I understand everybody's
• 24:14
  frustrations. And then there's the statement
• 24:17
  from Pima County. Last month, the FBI said it had
• 24:24
  received a hair sample tied to the Guthrie case that was
• 24:26
  collected in February. Quote, the FBI requested this
• 24:30
  material over two months ago, an FBI official said in a statement
• 24:33
  at the time. Continuing the quote, the Pima
• 24:36
  County Sheriff's Office sent it to a private lab in Florida 11
• 24:39
  weeks later. The lab has now transferred an
• 24:41
  original hair sample to the FBI laboratory for testing.
• 24:45
  We remain fully committed to this investigation.
• 24:48
  In the podcast interview, again, Patel took credit for obtaining
• 24:51
  the first images of the suspect quote.
• 24:54
  I called the leadership of Google and I said, look, we know
• 24:57
  that there was not a subscription service to capture
• 25:00
  all the data that would have been captured had there been a
• 25:03
  subscription service. But can we go into the cache?
• 25:06
  Can we go into the deep data before it's deleted and see what
• 25:09
  we can find? Patel said.

  That's why you have that image, because the FBI worked with
• 25:14
  Google to put that image out, he said.

  So he took credit for that personal credit for that.
