- 0:25relationship and intimacy expert.
- 0:28She has been in this field for so many years researching and studying matchmaking, love,
- 0:34authenticity, conscious relationships, and more.
- 0:37She has an amazing program called We Deepen, which we'll talk about a little bit, an amazing
- 0:42love club we'll talk about a little bit.
- 0:45And we're gonna jump in today to talk about what is a conscious relationship, how do we
- 0:51have them, really what is truly the highest definition of love, and a whole lot more.
- 0:57So welcome to the show, Christina.
- 0:59So excited to have you today.
- 1:02Thank you.
- 1:02It's so good to have you.
- 1:03You did my show.
- 1:04Now I get to do your show.
- 1:05Exactly.
- 1:06Trade.
- 1:08So today, we're talking let's start, like, right jumping right in, starting about talking
- 1:14about these these four pillars of conscious relationship that you talk about.
- 1:18And I think this is super pivotal.
- 1:20Right?
- 1:20Because when we're interest in entering a relationship or whether we've been in a long
- 1:25term relationship for a long time, so many times we just kind of start in it, and we're
- 1:30not even thinking about what we're wanting or what makes it making it what makes it good and
- 1:34all these different things.
- 1:36So can you break this down?
- 1:38Like, what is truly a conscious relationship?
- 1:40What does that mean to you?
- 1:42And then what are the makeups of that?
- 1:45So there's a woman, Shelly Ballard, and she scripted these four pillars of a conscious
- 1:50relationship.
- 1:51I read them maybe, like, seven, eight years ago and have lived by them ever since.
- 1:57Even, you know, I talk about them from romantic relationships, but even in my friendships, my
- 2:03work relationships, they're pillars.
- 2:06And so these these four pillars are, number one, no attachment to outcome.
- 2:10Growth comes first.
- 2:12So that doesn't mean that you don't have fantasies or dreams or wishes of what this
- 2:16relationship could become, what we could do together.
- 2:19Maybe the kids will have, the the marriage that one day we'll invite our friends to.
- 2:24But it means that you are more committed to growth than any specific outcome.
- 2:30And oftentimes, when we get into relationships, we can start to tweak ourselves, to mold
- 2:37ourself in the person that we believe the other person thinks that we should be.
- 2:41And that starts to cut off life force energy, from the evolution of the connection, from the
- 2:50evolution of our connection to ourself.
- 2:53And so if you're if you're practicing this, no attachment to outcome growth comes first.
- 2:58It means that you're willing to have to hard conversations.
- 3:00They are willing to accept if this is not isn't the right person to be with anymore in this
- 3:05moment.
- 3:07And I often ask when when couples will come to me and and say, should we stay together or
- 3:11should we separate?
- 3:12It's like, where's your growth?
- 3:13Is your growth to be together and to stay together into this relationship, or is your
- 3:17growth to actually go back out into the world and to make new connections?
- 3:21And, you know, the answer may be different and it might change, and so you're you're
- 3:27committing to that.
- 3:28Number two, all feelings are welcome and no internal process is condemned.
- 3:36So when we're pair bonding with another individual on whatever level, it's expected
- 3:44that you're gonna feel things.
- 3:48You're gonna feel these emotions.
- 3:50You're gonna feel triggered.
- 3:52You're gonna feel upset.
- 3:53You're gonna feel sadness.
- 3:55And it's saying that these feelings, like you within your partner, it's that these feelings
- 4:01are welcome.
- 4:01Bring them.
- 4:02Tell me about your emotional journey.
- 4:04And that's where the vulnerability Brene Brown talks about vulnerability.
- 4:07I remember when I first heard about vulnerability, and I was like, okay.
- 4:10So I go on a date, and I tell him about my childhood traumas.
- 4:16Sure.
- 4:17That could be a piece of it, but it's more in that real time, in the moment of what is
- 4:21happening in your emotional experience.
- 4:22And sometimes, you might not even know.
- 4:25You might not even know.
- 4:26I had a I had a personal experience with my partner, the other night where I just we were
- 4:33talking about something, and all of a sudden, the triggers the the conversation triggered
- 4:38something inside of me, and I started to cry.
- 4:41And and it was really hard to explain.
- 4:43I I I couldn't verbalize in that moment what was happening to me, but I also wasn't running
- 4:52away from the tears in the past.
- 4:53I could've been, you know, oh, I'm fine.
- 4:57I'm fine.
- 4:57I'm fine.
- 4:58I'm fine.
- 4:58I'm fine.
- 5:00So all feelings are welcome.
- 5:03No internal process is condemned.
- 5:05That's even two of, like, you being with somebody and you and you're starting to see
- 5:08that their emotional response is happening that you welcome that into the space.
- 5:12Now brings it to number three, which is really important.
- 5:16Both parties agree to own their own shit.
- 5:19So you can have these feelings, but you're not gonna blame the other person for your feelings.
- 5:24Our you know, relating is a free will experience.
- 5:27I've chosen to be here in this moment with you.
- 5:31So if we're if my feelings are rising, I'm not gonna go to you and be like, you did this and
- 5:38you did that and it's caused this and it's all your fault and and yada yada yada.
- 5:42And then we're getting into this, like, defensive criticism blame game.
- 5:47It's more of explaining these feelings that we're having, but not blaming the other person
- 5:51for having those feelings.
- 5:52Both parties, again, are gonna own their own shit.
- 5:55And number four is that the relationship is a place to practice love.
- 6:00You know, love is, I'd love to go into, you know, the you know, we we didn't we didn't grow
- 6:06up where there's, one definition of love that we've all agreed to.
- 6:10And, and love is a verb.
- 6:13It's an it's an action oriented experience.
- 6:16We're choosing to show up in love.
- 6:19I like to think of love as this process of removing layers of the ego.
- 6:24These things that are holding you back from being the highest version of yourself coupled
- 6:28with ever increasing acts of sharing.
- 6:31We give to who we love.
- 6:32And so practicing that in relationship with another human being, whether they are your one,
- 6:39if you believe in there's a one, or whether that they're your friend, your sister, your
- 6:44mother, that you're practicing love and you're constantly asking yourself moment by moment,
- 6:49especially when the challenging moments arise, what would love do here?
- 6:53What what would love do in each moment?
- 6:57So first of all, thank you for that foundation, and and we're gonna go into, I think, more
- 7:02around that definition of love in a moment.
- 7:04But I've been kinda taking notes as you're going just to clarify each point you brought up
- 7:08here.
- 7:09So we're talking about this right as the corner the foundations, the cornerstones of a
- 7:15conscious relationship.
- 7:16So when we're talking about this attachment to outcome, right, you're the first cornerstone
- 7:21here, I'm curious, like, what do you feel about if we're saying, okay.
- 7:26Not having attachments to the outcome is the cornerstone.
- 7:30Where the conscious relationship to other attachments come in?
- 7:34K.
- 7:34Or, like, where do you feel about, like, other attachments?
- 7:37Is it are there places for other attachments?
- 7:39Are there not?
- 7:40Can you speak to that
- 7:41a little bit?
- 7:42Well, it you know, we actually it's so interesting because there's a duality to it.
- 7:49We actually need to attach to each other to to to survive and to thrive.
- 7:55And sometimes that the attachment is actually stronger than the love.
- 8:01Like, we confuse attachment for love because it feels as though if I lose this person, I will
- 8:09die.
- 8:10Like, I would die if we come into life through another human being, and we feel that
- 8:16attachment to this other, you know, this other human is keeping us alive.
- 8:21So the the the attachment is is that having no attachments is a spiritual practice that is in
- 8:30all aspects of our life that we're applying and playing in.
- 8:35I found it really interesting.
- 8:36There's a, a Peruvian tribe.
- 8:39There's a documentary.
- 8:41I'm blanking on the name of the documentary on the moment.
- 8:44But in the documentary, this woman, she goes and she does, you know, the the journey to
- 8:49discover herself, and she's interviewing, tribesmen in in Peru.
- 8:55And he tells her that in this specific tribe that when the girls start to be 13, when they
- 9:04start to have their periods that they began in that moment teaching them on attachment.
- 9:09They tell the women that when you are falling in love with a man to be very delicate, to be
- 9:16very gentle with your heart, And they teach her that because that man is not gonna grow from
- 9:22your shoulder is what they say.
- 9:24He will either die or he will leave you for another woman.
- 9:29Now that's a start thing
- 9:31to hear.
- 9:32Yeah.
- 9:32It's intense.
- 9:33Like, he's 13 years old.
- 9:34Right?
- 9:36Yeah.
- 9:36The man you love is either gonna die or go off to be with another woman, but they're starting
- 9:42to entrain her with this, you know, this practice of being unattached to the outcome.
- 9:50So we can have dreams.
- 9:52We can have desires.
- 9:53We can have fantasies, but then throwing them to the universe and letting them, you know,
- 9:58create and I I see it, you know, in dating.
- 10:00My my work is in in the love love and dating, and and it's been a very personal journey for
- 10:06me.
- 10:06I got into this field about a decade ago because I wanted a epic relationship and a love
- 10:14story.
- 10:14And I thought, well, I'm gonna share that experience with others.
- 10:18I'm gonna help other people find it as I find it along the way.
- 10:21And I what I see often, this is my I've I've We Deep and I run a love club.
- 10:27We have 22 people at the time of this recording in our first cohort of the love club.
- 10:32And what gets brought up is, you know, women in that late thirties, early forties where they
- 10:40have this I wanna be a mother.
- 10:42Like, I want to experience motherhood.
- 10:45And that attachment to being a mother is biologically inside of us.
- 10:53And so and when you're out dating, I, you know, I could feel this.
- 10:59I'm I'm about to turn 43.
- 11:02I could feel this in my early forties, and I actually went and sat with a hypnotist at one
- 11:08point.
- 11:08And I'm like, hypnotize this out of me.
- 11:11I do not want to be dating and putting that in the forefront.
- 11:16And I yeah.
- 11:18It's something that you have to transmute because any relationship when you come into a
- 11:24relationship and you have this, like, I wanna get married.
- 11:27I wanna, you know, I I want to to to be a mother.
- 11:31I want to have these experiences.
- 11:33Like, you can cut yourself off from the the the the organic development of what happens between
- 11:42two individuals.
- 11:43Now you don't suppress your desires.
- 11:45You do not let them know, but you're not driven by them.
- 11:49You're driven by the connection.
- 11:53So that's one typical attachment.
- 11:55You know?
- 11:56I I see also the other half of life of people over, I work with people in their love journey.
- 12:02You call it their intimacy journey over, you know, 55, 60, 70.
- 12:08And I can sense that they're they're like, I haven't had this one epic life partnership, and
- 12:15I don't I I want to experience this before I die.
- 12:19And so there's this other level of desire.
- 12:22Now you can show up again for the desire, but having the attachment of then because then what
- 12:26happens is you're dating, you meet somebody and you're like, oh my god.
- 12:29It's finally it's them.
- 12:30And then really assessing what's possible between the the two, and then you end up in a
- 12:35relationship.
- 12:35They're like, fuck.
- 12:36How did I get here years later?
- 12:38Yeah.
- 12:38You're actually making me think.
- 12:39I'm reading this book right now, Journey of the Souls by Michael Newton.
- 12:43I don't know if you've come across this book.
- 12:44I love this book.
- 12:45And one of the points that he's making in this book as he talks about things he's talking at
- 12:50this in the chapter I'm in right now on, like, soulmates.
- 12:53Right?
- 12:53So one of the things he's talking about is, like, we can we so many times as humans come
- 12:58into this world, and we have these natural, almost inclinations for something like that
- 13:04because of society or because of our programming or all these different things.
- 13:10And perhaps from a growth standpoint, to bring it back to a word you've used a few times,
- 13:15maybe we're here, you know, some people on this earth not to have that, you know, that soulmate
- 13:20life, you know, life partner that's like the person, their person, it might not be part of
- 13:25their growth trajectory.
- 13:27And, like and so what does that mean, and how can we still live happy and fulfilling lives
- 13:31and still be engaged intimately in dating, you know, in those those scenarios.
- 13:36So I'm thinking a lot about that.
- 13:38And and I wanna circle back also to this this your statement number two about all feelings
- 13:45are welcome.
- 13:46Because one of the things that I I was thinking about when you were talking about that was,
- 13:51well, what about the the concept of, like, validating other people's feelings?
- 13:55So all feelings are welcome.
- 13:56We're responsible for our own feelings.
- 13:58We're not gonna project our stuff on the other person.
- 14:02But where do you do you feel like the the concept of validation of the another person's
- 14:06feelings and emotions, does that play into this conscious relationship theory at all, or is
- 14:12that not really part of it?
- 14:17Validating is is an important experience for sure for people to have.
- 14:22Now I think that when you're with another being, I use all types of typologies.
- 14:30Typologies including human design, gene keys, about the, the erotic blueprints to, I've been
- 14:41really geeking out lately on the genetic energetics by the four answers.
- 14:47So I I use these systems when I'm personally relating or even within the love club as
- 14:54they're discovering themselves and discovering compatibility, with people that they're dating.
- 14:59And I think that when you start to go through that process, you can start to it's a it's a
- 15:07it's a way to support two people teaching each other how they want to be treated.
- 15:13And that's real like, how like, when you step into a relationship, whether you directly ask
- 15:20the question, which I'm all for, directly ask them question, but teach me or or direct invite
- 15:25the other person to teach you how to love them.
- 15:28You know, there's so many ways that human beings can feel love.
- 15:35It's number one is mainly through attention, oftentimes, you know, giving them presence and
- 15:40attention.
- 15:41But then the experience of love, you know, we live in an era right now.
- 15:46Kink is expanding and growing, and so there is a whole BDSM, culture out there.
- 15:53And for somebody who's really into the practice of BDSM, they may feel the greatest amount of
- 15:59love when you punish them or when you discipline them.
- 16:04So that might not be they might not want to feel validated.
- 16:08It's kinda contradictory.
- 16:09That's why, you know, it's like, yes, we all like to feel validated in our own experience,
- 16:16and then it's like and then and then what else?
- 16:21Yeah.
- 16:21That's so wise.
- 16:22I I really appreciate, like, bringing up the uniqueness of that around.
- 16:26Like, that might be a really great way of expressing love for some people.
- 16:30And, you know, we have so many different ways of expressing love, and it might not be the way
- 16:36for other people.
- 16:37And and so I think that's such an important point.
- 16:40I want I know we're getting getting close to our time today, so I wanna wrap up with my
- 16:44final question and and wondering then in our final question if we can kinda also bring this
- 16:50into the concept of what you do at We Deepen in in your love club.
- 16:55But the question I wanna come back to is the question around that I think everybody really
- 16:59wants to hear is how do you define love?
- 17:06Love is this process of removing layers of the ego.
- 17:10These are the fears, the negativities, the things that are holding you back from being
- 17:13your most authentic self coupled with ever increasing acts of sharing because you give to
- 17:18who you love.
- 17:19And, you know, I wanna stress this authenticity piece, because when we say no attachment to
- 17:24outcome, growth comes first, and so you're not suppressing this this piece of yourself.
- 17:29It's really edgy to be fully authentic.
- 17:33Like, that's really edgy to trust someone enough with what's happening inside of your
- 17:40internal process and not also attach meaning to it in the moment.
- 17:45Because that's the edge.
- 17:46It's like, if this person sees me cry right now, how will they interpret it, and what will
- 17:51they make it mean about me?
- 17:54And also being so authentic.
- 17:56I'll say, you know, the authenticity is is an important piece in this slowing down, actually.
- 18:02I think, you know, we're so starved for connections sometimes that we will do anything
- 18:09to get into that connect that connection down.
- 18:13And I'll leave you with this.
- 18:15In my relationship, we went through an early dating process.
- 18:18And in that early dating process to slow it down so I could be authentic is I didn't have
- 18:23penetrative sex with him for nine months.
- 18:27And during that period of time, because I'm I was still questioning, like, do I wanna be a
- 18:33mother?
- 18:34What's, you know, what's happening?
- 18:36So I would because I was I I let that, left that level of discernment.
- 18:43Like, can I can I say, is this we can talk about sex, obviously?
- 18:47Yes.
- 18:48Yes.
- 18:48Yes.
- 18:48That is what we do here.
- 18:49Okay.
- 18:50Great.
- 18:50I just you know, if you put your cock inside of me right now, I will suck up your sperm and
- 18:58impregnate myself.
- 18:59Yeah.
- 19:00And if like, that is the level of authenticity.
- 19:04That is something scary to say, but because I left this space between for me to feel, like,
- 19:12that's that's also true if your love is this, you know, being authentic moment.
- 19:16So create and then design your environment so you can be that way.
- 19:22Like, if you're in toxic situations where toxic people are, how do you get out of there so you
- 19:28can be more of yourself?
- 19:29And that is love.
- 19:31Love life equals love.
- 19:33It's this whole experience of love, and it's this individual journey that then we get to
- 19:40cocreate with those that we need along the way.
- 19:42It's such a beautiful story because I feel like it just really sums up so many of the things
- 19:47we've talked about today.
- 19:49Love and vulnerability and speaking your feelings, and your feelings are welcome, and
- 19:53the the authenticity, all of that, I think, is really wrapped up so beautifully into that
- 19:59story.
- 19:59So, everybody, you can definitely should definitely check out Christina in her show
