- 0:00Speaker 1: Okay. Welcome back to another episode of Local Business Marketing Made Simple with your host, Liam Walsh. And we are today going to be looking into how to stand out more on social media and collabing in the same sense with having confidence on camera. And the reason these two are so aligned is because in order to stand out on social media is going to require one thing and one thing only. And no, it is not your logo, which we've had quite a lot of laughs with this week.
- 0:35Yeah. It's been a funny one with the logo stuff. And even even to the point of graphic designers commenting underneath the post saying, well, I think think this is shortsighted. But listen, let me tell you one thing. If you had a logo or you didn't, it'd make any difference too if you get customers.
- 0:50I don't have a logo, and we brought on 10 new clients this week. You might not have a logo, and you could get 10 clients this week. The logos aren't the answer to client acquisition. Don't get me wrong. Nice logo.
- 1:02Great. Yeah? But what we look at is, of course, getting customers. And to stand out on social media isn't about that. It's not about how many qualifications you have.
- 1:14I see so many business owners just like getting more qualifications, more and more and more and more, but yet they're struggling to pay rent. It's bananas, but you don't know what you don't know. Right? So in order for us to stand out on social media and have confidence on camera, we need to look at a few things. One is just to understand that actually being on camera and I'm gonna go through some levels here.
- 1:36I've got a little bit of a progression system for you, which will which will help you. Because the moment I say, you know, go on camera, everyone really craps their pants. Let's be honest. But I was even having a conversation with someone who's who's on a call with us on Friday this week to join the program. And she actually asked, you know, she she she asked, what would you write?
- 1:55What would you what did she say? What would you do you have any advice on my social media? Right? And I thought, you know what? Let's just do it.
- 2:01Had a quick look. There's a few few bits and bats around this, but one of the biggest ones was her logo was her profile picture. Instant detraction. K? No one's gonna be attracted to your logo.
- 2:09Let's just put it there. Number two was her name is Amy. Right? And you can see Amy anywhere. You can see her at all.
- 2:16I'm not gonna be able to get connected with Amy if I don't see Amy. Because here's the truth. Right? When you look at your business right now, there is an identical business, probably somewhere within a five to 10 kilometer radius. And I was saying this to to Joe who just recently signed up to the program the other day.
- 2:34He's actually a physiotherapist. And he I said, Joe, I said, well, we've all lived in the world. There's a business like yours just down the road, and let's just say that business business owner's name was Ben. Well, what's the difference between you and Ben? And the answer is you, Joe.
- 2:50You're the difference. And how do I know if I'm going to, like, go to Ben or to Joe? Well, I tell you who I'm gonna go to. I'm gonna go to the one that I trust the most. K?
- 3:00The one I feel connected with the most. Because if you're both promising me that you can fix my back pain, like, there's not a lot in it there. So we need to make sure that we're connected with the audience because, you know, Ben and Joe may be doing similar styles of content. They're sharing customer reviews. There's not more in it.
- 3:17But if Ben is still hiding behind his logo, is still using stock images, I can't really see Ben unless I scroll four times down and then four times again. But if Joe, on the other hand, his profile picture is a picture of him smiling towards the camera, his name's on his profile, One of his top pinned posts is him, and there's there's more of him. I'm gonna feel so much more connected to Joe, obviously. Come on. So in order to stand out, it's not about being bold, brash the biggest personality.
- 3:51I'm quite introverted. Right? You might not even you might not think that, but I am. And even when I have I have high energy, but also introverted in the same sense. It's not about being the loudest in the room.
- 4:01It's just knowing that, okay, well, if I'm on camera more, my audience that I have right now, they're going to feel more connected to me. The more connection you have, the more inquiries you will get. So having confidence on camera is key and it's not something that comes natural to us all. Believe me, believe me, believe you me, whatever the term is here, even I sometimes have, you know, like, not confidence issues by any mean, but there's still days where I go on camera and I'm stuttering and this, but I've been doing this that long now. You just get into the motion.
- 4:31This is one of the progression progressions here that I'll walk you through. Now first things first, obviously, it's easy enough to take a selfie. I'm talking more about video. Video on especially on Instagram. Instagram is the place to be at the moment.
- 4:42Instagram is the place. Facebook was once the place. Instagram is the place. Better than Google, better than TikTok, better than LinkedIn, better than Facebook. And I say that coming from me who grew my first three businesses all on Facebook.
- 4:57Honestly, I I was the one who was, oh, Instagram doesn't work. Instagram isn't the place to be. And you know what? It wasn't. You know, some people were having success.
- 5:09Depends on the business. But anyway, every business can thrive on Instagram. And now what you notice more about Instagram is, of course, more video friendly. Now I'm not saying that every single piece needs to be video. It doesn't.
- 5:21But if you go and look at my social page, you'll see there's probably two videos a week. Okay? Two videos a week is enough for people to scroll through and see you visually listen to you like the minute stack up. Okay? Someone listening to your voice, your tone, and when you're providing certain levels of content, which we're not going to go into on this episode because otherwise we will go off many tangents, but just physically seeing you moving your energy, your vibe.
- 5:46And don't worry, it's not about being the most fun person in the world with the biggest personality. Some people don't like me. Put it this way. I did a post not too long ago. Bear bearing in mind, right, you take this with a pinch of salt because I I I'm growing my following at a at a rapido rate, let's just say.
- 6:02So you're always gonna see the the rough of this movie here. But just for context, I did a post last week, and I lost 40 followers. Right? Now probably because some people follow me when they shouldn't have done, but I'm not everyone's cup of tea. K?
- 6:14And the same reason, same reason, the same way that you won't be everyone's cup of tea. And that is absolutely fantastic because you don't want to be bringing in people who aren't your people. You want to be bringing in people who are your people. Now you are very unique. And even if you may not think it, you are.
- 6:33You just need to know and understand how to portray that on social media. And honestly, it's not difficult because you just need to be you. But it is about having the confidence to be you. It's understanding how. So the way that I look at video content, okay, you have three levels.
- 6:51You have what we would call level one, silent on camera. And this is where you can essentially film yourself doing anything with a client, like, in respect of let's say let's say Gojo with a physiotherapist. Right? He could literally film himself doing the sports massage or cupping or whatever it is. It could be a PT, what doing a barbell squat with someone.
- 7:15It could be a mortgage advisor, literally sat down, chatting to someone about their mortgage. Now the key here is obviously client consent. You'll have great clients that'd be fine with this. Right? You'll have some clients that actually love being a bit of the center of the attention.
- 7:27And what you can do is and by the way, you could actually you don't actually need to be with a client. That's one good one. And also just in general filming, you doing something that's almost relatable to your to your business. Alright. I'm literally going I may even use this for a post.
- 7:43I'm actually gonna set up my phone here. I'm just gonna put it on reverse camera. You know what's coming? I'm gonna literally prop it up here. Okay.
- 7:50When I prop my phone up against this light, this is awful because I literally I've got the light. It's low. Yeah. I'm not gonna use that. At least have good lighting when you do it.
- 8:00But anyway, I could literally pop my phone up here, press record, and just start talking to you right now. I can turn it off whenever. It doesn't matter how long you go on for here because then what I can essentially do is I could have cut that down to fifteen seconds. K. Muted it.
- 8:17Oh, I could keep it on if I wanted to, but for you guys, you probably wouldn't. You'd mute it. You stick it on Instagram. You stick trending audio over the top of it. Not that I'm bothered about trending audio.
- 8:25Stick audio over it. Whatever music you like. You see me, I have, like, like, slow jazz and piano music and everything because that's the kind of music I love. I love dance music. I love all kinds of music, but that kind of stuff for reading, it just I like it.
- 8:38So stick that on. And I could I could literally be like, just film the new podcast. It's called standing out on social media with with confidence on camera. That's the name of the podcast. That's the name of the podcast, guys.
- 8:50Standing out on social media with confidence on camera. Bosh. Something like that. Anyway, told you I got tangents on this. If you're new here, hello.
- 9:03This is what you're in for. So, anyway, that's level one. Oh, think of those scenarios that you could do. I was just chatting to a client, Mark. He's literally gonna start doing this.
- 9:10He's gonna film with clients, mute them, just go and get loads of footage. I did one the other day, and I filmed myself speaking to the camera as I did a new module inside the course about sales and not how to not lose people in the DMs and all that stuff. Goes well. And and how long does that take? Fifteen seconds of recording.
- 9:30Right? When you come around to uploading it, you just literally go to Instagram, upload as real, put text over top, add music, and add add the caption. Boom. Job done. Right?
- 9:40And, again, I'm not going into the different layers of content here today. I'm just going on this. But that's level one. And, honestly, right, you remember me speaking about Kavan? You heard about Kavan?
- 9:48He he only does this. I think he only does level one, and he absolutely flies. He does with clients. He does tutorials of things that are valuable. Honestly, level one is great combined with some carousels and lifestyle content, which I'm not going on content.
- 10:10But, yeah, level one works an absolute treat. And you know what the beautiful thing is here? You're on camera without the pressure of speaking. It gets you used to seeing yourself on screen. It gets your audience to see you on screen, which is an absolute gem.
- 10:24And now we're winning. Now we're connecting. You see the difference here and feel the difference. No more stock ish stock issues? No more stock images.
- 10:32No more just, like, hiding behind crappy photos. You know, like, taking a picture of your clinic, and it's just it's just, like, boring. It's very boring. We don't want that. Again, you are unique, so allow your audience to see you.
- 10:49Anyway, level two. Level two. Level two is is the exact same type, right, that I just went through, but now we're taking it up a gear. It's the same type of footage, but you add your voice explaining what's happening. So, of course, this is now going to be a little bit no.
- 11:07To be fair, everything I just said with my examples I could have done. I could have done my same one now. I could have done my same one now, literally recording me speaking in here. It's muted. I've added a very low level of music because, again, it's more about your voice here now.
- 11:21And over the top, I could be saying, hey, this is me filming the new podcast called Confidence on Camera, blah blah blah blah blah. If you wanna know more and listen to it, then go to the link in my bio, you'll able to watch. You know, if, again, let's do the whole thing. Let's do the PT with the barbell back squat. Now you were like, hey, this is my me and my client, Sarah, we're going through a barbell back squat here.
- 11:39As you can see, what I'm doing with Sarah here is I'm correcting her form. I'm doing this and doing this. And if you didn't know the benefits of barbell squats are this, this, this, this, and this. Again, mortgage advisor, here's me and my client Jane. We're looking into remortgaging her home.
- 11:53She's currently on a 5.7% rate. We actually found a 3.6 and now Karen, whoever I just said, is going to save £4,450 a month. Boom. Would you like me to show you how you can do the same? Like it's it's I get so excited about this and I don't know why, but this is how easy it can be.
- 12:09Right? And to do this, you don't even need anything fancy. You just need your phone. Make sure you've got half decent lighting. And when I say lighting, you don't need to go and buy anything.
- 12:16Natural light is your winner winner chicken dinner. K? You just need to have good lighting so you don't look like a sack of ass because I'm not being funny. Even if you're the most beautiful person in the world, bad lighting just makes no one look good. Okay.
- 12:30You end up with these big dark eyes, the skin's off. You know, you want to look half presentable, but that is level two. You see how we're already like building this up. We're connecting. I hope I press record on this because this is an absolute belter of a podcast.
- 12:44If I may do, may, may, may say so myself. Anyway, level three is the final level. Okay. And this is the, this is the level that I love people to get to because it just adds to such a good layer to content. This is simple reels direct to camera speaking.
- 13:00Okay? Now by this point, you've done level one, you've done level two. So you've already been on camera. You've already spoken over your video, and now you're just putting face to the name to speak directly. The beautiful thing to do with this is to not overcomplicate, right, value content for this kind of stuff.
- 13:16Let's just go back to the physio, the PT, and the mortgage adviser. Okay? Don't know why those three are in my head today. But anyway, let's do the mortgage adviser. Here's what did we say before about lowering the rate.
- 13:27Okay? So we let's say, with with this kind of speaker on camera, the easiest way to go is value content. And, honestly, you only need five lines, k, to begin with to get the first one out. We're not gonna go too much in-depth here because we could speak forever about this. But the easiest first one to do is three ways on how you can blah.
- 13:43K? So let's say the mortgage adviser. Here's three ways that you can get a mortgage as a self employed business owner. That's my line one. Speak to the camera and say a line at a time.
- 13:57Yeah. Make sure you are zoomed in enough so you're almost like filling the camera. Don't be too far away. So you're like a little pee speaking. Make sure you're in the camera's face.
- 14:07Honestly, you want to see some of the reels I do. I literally I don't have I have a tripod, obviously, but you don't need to go and buy a tripod. Again, this is not about perfectionism here. Everyone goes into little details. I gotta get lights.
- 14:16You gotta get a tripod. Gotta get my gotta get this. You don't. I in the lounge, on the windowsill, I'm literally on my knees because otherwise I haven't stood up and too high. I prop my camera up, again, natural light, to make me look pretty, and I do it there.
- 14:31I just press play and go. Like, honestly, some of half the reels you'll see me do is is that for the most time. Anyway, I digress. Read a line now at a time, and the reason you do so, one, so you don't stutter over a two, it actually works better if I read a line and then another line. So let's go three ways to to get a mortgage as a self employed business owner.
- 14:48Number one is blah blah blah blah blah. Number two is blah blah blah blah. Number three is blah blah blah blah. Follow me for more tips on mortgages. If I piece it together, it snaps.
- 14:57If ever go and watch any of my videos, you'll see a line at a time and it actually looks better versus me just saying it all out to camera. It's very you gotta keep attention on on Reels. Right? So the snap almost like pulls it together versus it just being very monotone and slow. It gives it a little bit of energy.
- 15:13Great for us because we can just read a line at a time, get a video editor, put it all together, excuse me, and job done. That's the three levels. That all of that, yeah, is gonna allow you to stand out on social media, be unique, showcase you. Because, again, in the in in the nicest way possible, especially if you've got competitors, I don't care about competitors, by the way. I don't even know I only know who one of mine is because someone sends me them the other day, which I don't give a shit about, by the way, at all, and neither should you.
- 15:46But also for you, in a radius, it is gonna be a sometimes a game between you and them. So just make sure that you do everything possible so it's you. K? Because you deserve it. You deserve to grow your business.
- 15:56And why should you not? We're not on this planet for for a hell of a long time comparison to how long it's been going, so you deserve every ounce of success. You just need to make sure that you do the right things to get success. Because as we know, and as I say all the time, before we know it, it's another bin day. Mariah Carey is defrosting.
- 16:13And I saw mint pies in booze yesterday. I mean, mint pies already. We're in. We're in. We're in.
- 16:20You know what I mean? Another year will be gone. It will be January 2026 soon, and we'll be setting big intentions for goals. And you still may be listening to this podcast in November 2020 like, still kicking yourself that you've not really taken action. That's another year gone, and we do not want that.
- 16:35My good friend, Sharif, is ringing me here, so I'm going to wrap this up. But just make sure that you you don't you don't aim for perfection. K? Good enough beats never start. You're an expert in your field, so just make sure that you showcase that.
- 16:56Showcase you. Because like I say, you are unique. Your business is not, and that's okay. Okay? But you are, and you can help people.
- 17:04So let's showcase your area, you. K? If you need anything, let me know. And, of course, as always, if you wanna know more details about how to work with us more hands on, then let me know. Just come to Instagram and give me a message.
- 17:16Anyway, I shall love you and leave you. Goodbye.
