- 0:29SPEAKER_01: Now, obviously, Parker has a lot more experience in this genre, so he's gonna guide us through it, but we may be a little bit more timid, unknowledgeable, and scared.
- 0:40SPEAKER_03: Well, I'm really excited.
- 0:41SPEAKER_03: This is a learning experience for all of us.
- 0:43SPEAKER_03: And it's just gonna get better as we go along.

- 1:04SPEAKER_01: Starting from scratch, because I refuse to watch scary movies up until this point.
- 1:09SPEAKER_01: So it's really a clear track for me.
- 1:11SPEAKER_02: I'm exactly the same way, so I don't I don't even know where to begin.
- 1:15SPEAKER_02: I don't know what I don't know.
- 1:17SPEAKER_03: Well, hopefully, you don't just sit there and watch them.
- 1:20SPEAKER_03: Hopefully, eventually you start to like them a little bit.
- 1:22SPEAKER_03: I'll try and do some educational things.
- 1:25SPEAKER_03: Might not work out.
- 1:27SPEAKER_03: I'll be learning as you guys learn.
- 1:29SPEAKER_03: But I'm hoping we can all develop an appreciation for horror movies together.
- 1:33SPEAKER_02: Now, we have a few rules for your scary movie viewing party.
- 1:38SPEAKER_01: Oh really?
- 1:39SPEAKER_01: What are they?
- 1:40SPEAKER_00: Jesus Christ, you don't know the rules?
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: Even aneurysm, why don't you?
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: There are certain rules that one must abide by in order to successfully survive a horror movie.
- 1:50SPEAKER_00: For instance.
- 1:51SPEAKER_03: Well, number one, you gotta watch it just like any other movie.
- 1:54SPEAKER_03: If you watch it like a scary movie, you're gonna miss out because you've already written it off.
- 1:59SPEAKER_03: That's gonna be my number one problem.
- 2:01SPEAKER_02: Rule number two, never cover your eyes.
- 2:05SPEAKER_01: Rule number three, lights must be out.
- 2:09SPEAKER_03: Rule number four, volumes gotta be up high.
- 2:13SPEAKER_02: Rule number five, you can't stop watching, no matter what.
- 2:16SPEAKER_03: Don't go to the bathroom, do it before.
- 2:19SPEAKER_03: Don't go get your snacks, put them in a bowl.
- 2:22SPEAKER_03: Before.
- 2:23SPEAKER_03: Before.
- 2:24SPEAKER_03: Uh you want a sweater, too bad, you're gonna be cold.
- 2:28SPEAKER_01: Hear a scary noise down the hallway.
- 2:30SPEAKER_01: Don't go check it out.
- 2:32SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 2:33SPEAKER_02: Uh Robert breaks in.
- 2:35SPEAKER_02: Too bad.
- 2:36SPEAKER_03: Keep watching, he'll join ya.
- 2:39SPEAKER_03: If you stop watching, it ruins the magic.
- 2:43SPEAKER_01: Ian, tell me why you were never drawn to scary movies in the first place.
- 2:50SPEAKER_01: Did you have a childhood experience watching scary movies?
- 2:53SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I think the reason I was never drawn to scary movies was when I was I think it was like the last what's the last grade in elementary school, like fifth grade?
- 3:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 3:04SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 3:05SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I was like almost kidnapped, and I think that scarred me from watching scary movies.
- 3:12SPEAKER_02: Because I was like cliche almost kidnapped back in the I think that was like the the ending years where like old school kidnappers could probably get away with it.
- 3:23SPEAKER_02: So yeah, maybe I think that's probably why.
- 3:25SPEAKER_01: If I had to pinpoint You're gonna be a milk carton boy?
- 3:29SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 3:29SPEAKER_03: I don't know if you're sensitive about this, but that's so cool.
- 3:32SPEAKER_02: It's it's a pretty intense story, in my opinion.
- 3:35SPEAKER_02: But we don't need to go.
- 3:37SPEAKER_02: We can reveal that over the course of this podcast.
- 3:40SPEAKER_02: Ooh.
- 3:41SPEAKER_02: Realize when the moment comes, creepy pasta.
- 3:44SPEAKER_02: I think there will probably be.
- 3:45SPEAKER_02: I I would imagine there's probably some type of scary movie we're gonna watch that coincides with my almost abduction.
- 3:54SPEAKER_02: So we'll save it.
- 3:55SPEAKER_02: But Caroline, why why don't you watch scary movies?
- 3:58SPEAKER_02: It's it's rare that a couple like ourselves both don't like scary movies.
- 4:04SPEAKER_01: Well, I recently came to terms with this because I finally re-watched the movie, but I was very young and I watched Gremlins, probably probably at an age too young to be watching it.
- 4:20SPEAKER_03: Uh, it sounds like you were at the right age that they were targeting.
- 4:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it really freaked me out, and I had like bad dreams about the pool lighting up and all those monsters coming out of it.
- 4:34SPEAKER_03: And uh, second viewing, how did you feel?
- 4:37SPEAKER_03: Just as scared?
- 4:38SPEAKER_01: I thought this is stupid.
- 4:41SPEAKER_02: For context, we watched Gremlins.
- 4:43SPEAKER_03: It's my favorite Christmas movie.
- 4:45SPEAKER_03: It was terrible.
- 4:46SPEAKER_01: If that tells you anything about Parker.
- 4:48SPEAKER_01: You're joking!
- 4:49SPEAKER_03: That movie is so good.
- 4:52SPEAKER_03: There's nothing you can even complain about.
- 4:54SPEAKER_03: It's just joy.
- 4:54SPEAKER_03: Start to fall.
- 4:56SPEAKER_03: But then again, I fall asleep.
- 4:57SPEAKER_01: I think I was like probably like seven years old, and I was drawn into like this cute little Furby because they're popular at the time, and I was like, oh, it's so adorable, and then they start killing people, and I just freaked out.
- 5:10SPEAKER_01: And shortly after that, my parents took me to Universal Studios in Orlando, and I refused to get on the E.T.
- 5:18SPEAKER_01: ride.
- 5:18SPEAKER_01: And I think that just spiraled everything.
- 5:21SPEAKER_03: E.T.'s good too.
- 5:22SPEAKER_01: I was very scared of it.
- 5:24SPEAKER_03: Well, Gremlins is from the 80s, so your parents definitely pranked you.
- 5:28SPEAKER_03: It's not like it was male.
- 5:29SPEAKER_01: No, I remember my dad came home with it and was like, I used to love this movie.
- 5:33SPEAKER_01: No.
- 5:35SPEAKER_01: With the movie.
- 5:36SPEAKER_02: Why do you think you're so drawn to scary movies?
- 5:39SPEAKER_03: Well, like you guys, I was a scaredy cat when I was a kid.
- 5:44SPEAKER_03: Um, my parents used to love used to, they watch it once a year and they have like the uh extended editions of Lord of the Rings.
- 5:53SPEAKER_03: And I was terrified of Lord of the Rings.
- 5:55SPEAKER_03: There's the scene where um Gollum is climbing down the side of like a mount of like a cliff towards Frodo while he's sleeping.
- 6:05SPEAKER_03: I had like nightmares about it.
- 6:06SPEAKER_01: Oh my god, yes, I know exactly what scene you're talking about.
- 6:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's scary.
- 6:10SPEAKER_03: The orcs scared me when they would like do these like weird squeal things.
- 6:14SPEAKER_01: No, those weren't scary, but Gollum.
- 6:17SPEAKER_03: They scared me.
- 6:18SPEAKER_03: I'm trying to remember what the first scary movie I watched was.
- 6:21SPEAKER_03: I know when I was younger, I watched The Ring after um The Prom with some friends when I was in middle school, and that really freaked me out.
- 6:30SPEAKER_03: But I liked it.
- 6:31SPEAKER_03: I think it was the group experience of it.
- 6:33SPEAKER_03: Like we were all just scared and screaming and like hugging up together.
- 6:38SPEAKER_01: I think I also get very scared.
- 6:40SPEAKER_03: Hugging up, that's a is that an adjective?
- 6:42SPEAKER_03: Or a verb?
- 6:43SPEAKER_03: It's not an adjective for sure.
- 6:45SPEAKER_01: I think I also get scared by movie trailers very easily.
- 6:51SPEAKER_01: I don't know why.
- 6:52SPEAKER_01: I mean they're supposed to like build adrenaline and be super scary so that people go and see them, but I used to get nightmares from the trailers, so therefore I would never watch the movies.
- 7:03SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I know another early movie I watched was the remake of uh When a Stranger Calls, which is pretty lame.
- 7:09SPEAKER_03: I watched it alone in my bedroom and freaked out.
- 7:12SPEAKER_03: I watched the remake of Dawn of the Dead, where they're all in the mall with the zombies when I was young.
- 7:18SPEAKER_03: That freaked me out.
- 7:19SPEAKER_03: So I don't know why I kept watching them.
- 7:21SPEAKER_03: I've just always enjoyed the thrill.
- 7:24SPEAKER_01: Honestly, I never finished Stranger Things because I'm scared.
- 7:30SPEAKER_03: Emotional finale season one.
- 7:32SPEAKER_03: I bet you'd cry.
- 7:34SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
