- 0:28Speaker 1: Hello and welcome back to Imperfect Marketing.
- 0:31Speaker 1: This is another Imperfect Marketing brief, where we give you some insights in 15 minutes or less.
- 0:38Speaker 1: So Imperfect Marketing is a podcast that simplifies the complex world of marketing and helps you navigate your journey with confidence.
- 0:45Speaker 1: Today, we're focusing on a crucial yet often overlooked aspect of the podcasting journey.
- 0:51Speaker 1: That's crafting your podcast description.
- 0:53Speaker 1: A well-written podcast description is like a roadmap for potential listeners.
- 0:58Speaker 1: It's going to tell them what your show is about, why they should tune in and what they can expect to gain from listening.
- 1:04Speaker 1: So how do you draft a compelling description that achieves all of this?
- 1:08Speaker 1: Well, let's break it down.
- 1:10Speaker 1: First.
- 1:11Speaker 1: You want to be clear about what your podcast is about.
- 1:14Speaker 1: This may seem obvious, but you'd be surprised to know how many podcast descriptions are vague or overly complex.
- 1:21Speaker 1: Keep it simple.
- 1:23Speaker 1: Clearly state the topic or the theme of your podcast.
- 1:27Speaker 1: If your show is about the ins and outs of starting a business small business say so.
- 1:31Speaker 1: Next, explain why your podcast is unique.
- 1:35Speaker 1: What sets you apart from the other podcasts in your niche?
- 1:38Speaker 1: Maybe you have a unique perspective or a novel approach, maybe you bring on exceptional guests, or perhaps your show is structured in a way that it's different from the norm, whatever it is.
- 1:49Speaker 1: Highlight that in your description.
- 1:52Speaker 1: Then speak directly to your target audience.
- 1:56Speaker 1: I want you to identify who your podcast is for and speak to their interests, needs and aspirations.
- 2:02Speaker 1: I'm doing this series on podcasting because so many entrepreneurs and solopreneurs have been talking to me about podcasting and how they go about it.
- 2:13Speaker 1: But if your podcast is for aspiring entrepreneurs, your description might mention the practical advice, inspiring success stories, actionable tips, whatever your listeners can expect to hear and learn.
- 2:31Speaker 1: Don't forget to include relevant keywords, just like with search engine optimization, using the right keywords can make your podcast more discoverable.
- 2:39Speaker 1: But do not go crazy.
- 2:41Speaker 1: I know keyword stuffing.
- 2:43Speaker 1: It should read naturally, it shouldn't be a list of keywords.
- 2:48Speaker 1: And finally, keep it concise.
- 2:50Speaker 1: While you want to provide enough information to entice potential listeners, you also want to keep it short enough that they'll actually read it.
- 2:57Speaker 1: Aim for a description that's comprehensive yet concise, giving just enough detail to peak curiosity and encourage clicks.
- 3:08Speaker 1: So today's episode was really brief, but I want you to remember this.
- 3:11Speaker 1: Your podcast description is a vital tool in attracting and retaining listeners.
- 3:17Speaker 1: So make it clear, make it unique, make it enticing.
- 3:20Speaker 1: It's your podcast sore front window, so dress it up and make it shine, and if you're struggling, do not be afraid to bring AI into it.
- 3:29Speaker 1: I love using AI for things like this to get a first draft.
- 3:34Speaker 1: That is a great tip for you.
- 3:37Speaker 1: Okay, but I thank you so much for joining me here today on this imperfect marketing brief, where I'm guiding you through the podcasting journey one episode at a time.
