- 0:00Speaker 1: She's on the Money. She's on the Money.
- 0:17Speaker 2: Hello, and welcome to She's on the Money's Friday Drinks episode,
- 0:21Speaker 2: where ours millennials have a drink and talk about financial
- 0:24Speaker 2: freedom and our weeks. This week, guys, we heard an
- 0:28Speaker 2: epic money diary from our lifestyle creeper, which I promise
- 0:31Speaker 2: you if you listen to the episode, you'll know why
- 0:33Speaker 2: we're calling her that. It's not as rude as it sounds,
- 0:35Speaker 2: but it was an epic money story. Then on Wednesday,
- 0:39Speaker 2: Georgia and I talked through exactly how you should be
- 0:41Speaker 2: purchasing a car and what you shouldn't be doing when
- 0:44Speaker 2: trying to purchase a car with our friends from Superhero.
- 0:47Speaker 3: And now it is Friday and we're having a little
- 0:49Speaker 3: bit of ragino with Georgia King and Ryan John, but
- 0:53Speaker 3: not jessic Rici.
- 0:54Speaker 4: Where's jessic Ici?
- 0:55Speaker 5: Guy?
- 0:55Speaker 3: We made our seats, got the lurgy.
- 0:58Speaker 5: So Georgia got myself and Victoria sick, and now we
- 1:02Speaker 5: got Jess sick.
- 1:03Speaker 3: I just feel like it's going around. What goes around
- 1:05Speaker 3: comes around.
- 1:05Speaker 4: Absolutely, it's kind of beautiful.
- 1:07Speaker 2: I'm kind of sad Jess has never missed a Friday
- 1:10Speaker 2: Drinks episode.
- 1:12Speaker 5: She's getting slack.
- 1:13Speaker 2: Yeah, she's just really falling off the what is it
- 1:16Speaker 2: called off the band wagon?
- 1:18Speaker 5: Yeah, although she did call the name. She's like, I'm
- 1:19Speaker 5: so sorry, I can't make it.
- 1:22Speaker 2: I told her to go back to bed, and then
- 1:24Speaker 2: five seconds later I could see her popping up replying
- 1:26Speaker 2: to emails and I was like, I'm coming to your
- 1:28Speaker 2: house and taking She's like, no.
- 1:31Speaker 3: Please, don't make me less stressed if I do this.
- 1:34Speaker 5: So V has an exciting announcement. I've got some of
- 1:36Speaker 5: our favorite money wins of the week from the community
- 1:38Speaker 5: to share. But we're going to start with g because
- 1:41Speaker 5: I believe you're going to attempt to explain to meme.
- 1:45Speaker 3: From Ryan Johnson.
- 1:47Speaker 5: Realized good luck.
- 1:48Speaker 4: Yeah, thank you so much. Okay, So you guys may
- 1:51Speaker 4: have heard of that small interview took place a couple
- 1:53Speaker 4: of weeks ago. Megan Markle. I think her name was
- 1:56Speaker 4: Prince Harry or something like that. Yeah, yeah, something like
- 2:00Speaker 4: that anyway or something they do little Archie gorgeous Anyway,
- 2:07Speaker 4: you're too invested, way too invested. So there's this meme
- 2:10Speaker 4: of the gorgeous goddess that is Oprah Winfrey Queen. How
- 2:14Speaker 4: amazing was she in that interview, I just want to
- 2:17Speaker 4: eat her up. She looks amazing, better than ever anyway.
- 2:20Speaker 4: MEMI is one square Oprah with her hands out looking
- 2:24Speaker 4: like she's in pain, and the caption above that says
- 2:27Speaker 4: ten dollars plus three ninety nine delivery.
- 2:30Speaker 5: And she's in the pain. Wouldn't you'd be in pain?
- 2:34Speaker 4: And then the next square has Oprah looking intrigued and
- 2:38Speaker 4: quite interested and it says thirteen dollars ninety nine free delivery.
- 2:44Speaker 3: Right now we're talking.
- 2:47Speaker 4: Like that, so you know the gag here is that
- 2:49Speaker 4: we all get sucked in by free delivery when she's
- 2:52Speaker 4: getting wrong?
- 2:53Speaker 3: How you hold on? Does that make us more like Oprah?
- 2:56Speaker 3: Is that what that tells me?
- 2:57Speaker 5: We have to give away cars? Aha?
- 2:59Speaker 3: You get to everybody with the.
- 3:01Speaker 5: Car episode this week. I was waiting for that moment.
- 3:03Speaker 2: Yes, yeah, I'm really sorry. I actually don't have the
- 3:06Speaker 2: budget to give away cars.
- 3:07Speaker 5: But we could buy a whole heap of match the
- 3:09Speaker 5: car company gives it away and then op takes the credit.
- 3:12Speaker 3: We need to get.
- 3:13Speaker 2: Bigger so that we can give away cars on behalf
- 3:15Speaker 2: of other brands. In saying that last week we did
- 3:19Speaker 2: a job for Toyota. This week, we had a really
- 3:21Speaker 2: fun workshop where we actually got to meet a whole
- 3:23Speaker 2: heap of Sheese on the Money community members.
- 3:26Speaker 5: It was fun.
- 3:26Speaker 3: It was so fun, and we met so many people that.
- 3:29Speaker 2: Were like in our community from the very beginning, and
- 3:32Speaker 2: I think it was just really special.
- 3:33Speaker 5: We did. We did ask for a car at the end.
- 3:36Speaker 5: They did.
- 3:37Speaker 3: They said we could sit in it, and we did.
- 3:40Speaker 5: And they said we'd give it back. Yeah. Yeah.
- 3:43Speaker 3: They didn't even let me have the keys, so they
- 3:45Speaker 3: didn't trust me from the start.
- 3:48Speaker 2: Ryan, I want to know what your money wins of
- 3:51Speaker 2: the week's are.
- 3:53Speaker 5: Michelle, right, and I've there's a I don't know if
- 3:55Speaker 5: there's a thing, but there's a lot of smaller wins
- 3:57Speaker 5: this week. But sometimes it's the smaller ones that just.
- 3:59Speaker 3: Really agree make you really excited.
- 4:01Speaker 5: Ya, Michelle says, small win. I went to visit my
- 4:04Speaker 5: parents on the weekend and came home with a full
- 4:07Speaker 5: tub of my mum's homemade sausage rolls. Delicious. Yeah, money,
- 4:12Speaker 5: we lunch is sorted for the week in Michelle's and
- 4:15Speaker 5: we've talked about this before, those little lunches and coffees
- 4:17Speaker 5: at work, that stuff adds up. So to have a
- 4:19Speaker 5: whole week sordered well done.
- 4:20Speaker 3: Michelle rolls kind of like the og mums. They make
- 4:25Speaker 3: their best one.
- 4:25Speaker 5: Mum sausage rolls.
- 4:26Speaker 3: Yeah, Mum sausage rolls. They're the best kinds.
- 4:29Speaker 5: Caitlyn says, money win. I completed surveys online. You know
- 4:33Speaker 5: how some people can feel like their surveys and can
- 4:35Speaker 5: get vouchers and and bit of money in stuff. Yep,
- 4:38Speaker 5: So Caitlyn's been doing it for a while. And she
- 4:40Speaker 5: received a gift for being part of a study. And
- 4:41Speaker 5: she got a thirty dollars E gift card. She used
- 4:44Speaker 5: it to purchase Victoria's new book. She only had to
- 4:48Speaker 5: pay two dollars seventy for postage. Not only did I
- 4:50Speaker 5: help she had to.
- 4:51Speaker 3: Pay for postage.
- 4:52Speaker 5: Not only I mean she she would have seen that
- 4:55Speaker 5: meme from before and be like, oh, if only not
- 4:59Speaker 5: only did I help a UNI diversity with their study,
- 5:00Speaker 5: but I got a finance book for under three dollars.
- 5:03Speaker 3: That's a money win, huge money win.
- 5:05Speaker 5: Well, we've got Tara. My beautiful chickens are laying lots
- 5:10Speaker 5: of eggs at the moment, and I have swapped eggs
- 5:12Speaker 5: for fruit from a friends tree. Money win for both
- 5:14Speaker 5: of us. Yeah, I was going to say that the wholesome,
- 5:19Speaker 5: like swapping stuff with neighbors, just really like good, good feel.
- 5:24Speaker 2: My best friend's Steph is about to move out to
- 5:26Speaker 2: what I call the Sticks, which is really far away.
- 5:28Speaker 3: It's like an hour.
- 5:29Speaker 5: The Danny Loong Rangers is up there.
- 5:31Speaker 3: Yeah, it's in the Sticks.
- 5:33Speaker 2: She gets chickens with the house like they literally and
- 5:37Speaker 2: I can't wait for her to have a little veggie
- 5:39Speaker 2: patch in her chickens and I get to go visit Gorge.
- 5:41Speaker 5: That's so good, Laura says, money win. I got so
- 5:44Speaker 5: excited about Victoria's book launch that I told the family
- 5:49Speaker 5: group chat about zero point two seconds after his launch,
- 5:52Speaker 5: I said, guess what, Victoria's launching this book. And later
- 5:55Speaker 5: my dead my dad messaged me to say I've already
- 5:58Speaker 5: bought a copy of the book for you.
- 6:02Speaker 3: So sweet.
- 6:03Speaker 5: He's a sostom dad, says Laura. Should we get little
- 6:08Speaker 5: caps sttom dads. I'm a dad.
- 6:12Speaker 3: If she's on the money, yeah, c yeah, I like
- 6:14Speaker 3: it real cute.
- 6:15Speaker 5: Megan says, to wear it, You're a Sostom dad. Meghan says,
- 6:22Speaker 5: I went to Kmart and only came out with things
- 6:25Speaker 5: I went in there to buy.
- 6:27Speaker 3: That's a lie she made that.
- 6:29Speaker 2: No, no, no, that's not true. We all know that's
- 6:31Speaker 2: a fake money win.
- 6:32Speaker 5: I Megan, and she's a regular in the Facebook community.
- 6:35Speaker 5: She is true to her word.
- 6:37Speaker 3: I know they wouldn't line, but I would.
- 6:40Speaker 5: Emma says. Now, this is actually kind of a big
- 6:44Speaker 5: deal because of the courage it would take to do so.
- 6:47Speaker 5: I think. Emma says that she was on a casual
- 6:50Speaker 5: contract but pretty much working full time, so she like
- 6:54Speaker 5: mustered up the courage and went and had that chat
- 6:56Speaker 5: with her boss and said, I'm working full time hours.
- 6:58Speaker 5: I want the annual leave, the sea leave. I want
- 7:00Speaker 5: a full time, proper job. And I don't want my
- 7:03Speaker 5: pay to go down either. I want the same rate. Yeah.
- 7:06Speaker 5: And she went in there and she said, this is
- 7:08Speaker 5: why I deserve it, and this is why I'm bringing value,
- 7:10Speaker 5: and here's why it's good for the business. And she
- 7:11Speaker 5: presented her case and the boss said, you're right, here's
- 7:15Speaker 5: your contract. Em Well done, Emma, that's impressive. Megan says,
- 7:21Speaker 5: I just found out the other day that my healthcare
- 7:23Speaker 5: card entitles us to an energy rebate through our supplier.
- 7:27Speaker 5: Did you know this? No, we didn't, so a healthcare
- 7:29Speaker 5: card is like a healthcare card, but it's also it's
- 7:31Speaker 5: almost like a concession card for last year, so you
- 7:35Speaker 5: gets cheap train tickets.
- 7:37Speaker 3: Yeah, I knew that.
- 7:39Speaker 5: Part, and I always knew there was like some other stuff.
- 7:41Speaker 5: And she's like, I didn't really know. And I looked
- 7:43Speaker 5: into it and I told the energy provider that I'm
- 7:45Speaker 5: a healthcare card holder and blah blah blah, and they said, oh,
- 7:48Speaker 5: here's your rebate and you get a little discount.
- 7:50Speaker 2: Oh what you money win if you've got a healthcare card.
- 7:53Speaker 2: Check out what you can actually care for that?
- 7:55Speaker 5: And just in general, how many times do we hear
- 7:58Speaker 5: stories of I had no idea I was entitled too,
- 8:01Speaker 5: or I was able to do this just by looking
- 8:03Speaker 5: it up and double checking.
- 8:04Speaker 2: It's insane, insane the amount of stuff we missed purely
- 8:08Speaker 2: because we just don't know a bit.
- 8:10Speaker 5: Sad yep. And last one, this is from Kierley, and
- 8:14Speaker 5: Kearley is a regular commentary as well.
- 8:15Speaker 2: I feel like I feel like we do know the
- 8:18Speaker 2: regulars if their names come up. I might not know
- 8:20Speaker 2: you personally, but you best believe I know your comments.
- 8:24Speaker 5: I'm watching. I couldn't be bothered leaving my house to
- 8:27Speaker 5: go and buy some oat milk. I get you, So
- 8:30Speaker 5: I decided to make my own. What I made homemade
- 8:34Speaker 5: oat milk cost me ninety cents per liter.
- 8:37Speaker 3: What that's a money win to begin with?
- 8:39Speaker 5: How much does it cost when you I buy.
- 8:42Speaker 3: The bougie oatmelk. I'm a fan of minor figures.
- 8:45Speaker 2: Still, I still rate minor figures higher than I rate
- 8:48Speaker 2: any alcoholic their bridge and it's the.
- 8:51Speaker 3: Best in coffee. And that's like I feel as a leader.
- 8:55Speaker 2: Yeah, it is speno, but I've just got an addiction.
- 8:59Speaker 3: If you guys know how to help me overcome it.
- 9:01Speaker 4: It's weird though, because it just feels like it shouldn't
- 9:03Speaker 4: be expensive.
- 9:04Speaker 3: Oh that's what kure Lee is proving to us.
- 9:07Speaker 4: So we're all getting rolled.
- 9:08Speaker 5: So she says, for comparison, the oat milk she normally
- 9:16Speaker 5: buys is four dollars forty nine for a wait for it,
- 9:19Speaker 5: nine hundred and forty six milk containers.
- 9:23Speaker 2: She buys it as well, and we're being stowged on
- 9:25Speaker 2: our fifty or sixty year is.
- 9:27Speaker 5: That it works out? She's done the maths four dollars
- 9:29Speaker 5: seventy lead for her shot, which over the course of
- 9:32Speaker 5: twelve months, over the course of twelve months will save
- 9:34Speaker 5: her one hundred and seventy two dollars and thirty.
- 9:37Speaker 3: To six that's to that.
- 9:39Speaker 2: That's a very good money win. But do you know
- 9:40Speaker 2: how to make it a better money win? Transfer that
- 9:43Speaker 2: into your savings every week.
- 9:44Speaker 3: So that you actually capture those savings clever.
- 9:48Speaker 5: Excuse me? What? Remember how I said I'm doing a
- 9:53Speaker 5: long term money win. Yeah, I'm actually.
- 9:55Speaker 3: Let's do a check in. How's that going?
- 9:57Speaker 5: Ryan, I'm buying coffees.
- 10:00Speaker 3: I thought you weren't buying.
- 10:00Speaker 5: Well, that's the thing I am.
- 10:01Speaker 3: Now he's fallen off the bandwagon a little bit.
- 10:05Speaker 5: But because I set it up and automated it, still
- 10:08Speaker 5: five dollars every day that was going to be the
- 10:10Speaker 5: money I spent on coffees goes into my spaceship account
- 10:12Speaker 5: as up to a couple of hundred bucks and it's
- 10:13Speaker 5: sticking on quite well.
- 10:14Speaker 4: That is.
- 10:15Speaker 5: But you guys judged me on that. And then when
- 10:17Speaker 5: Kerley says I'm making long term oh great, I did.
- 10:20Speaker 5: But when Ryan does the same thing.
- 10:22Speaker 3: That's because we trust Kiraly And look what's happened, Georgia.
- 10:26Speaker 4: Will we write where we were we knew it wouldn't last.
- 10:30Speaker 3: Did a last note? We wanted it to where we roll.
- 10:32Speaker 5: Also, no, oh my god, what Georgia. Have a look
- 10:37Speaker 5: at my investment balance in spaceship and this is only
- 10:40Speaker 5: from five dollars a day of my coffee money. No
- 10:42Speaker 5: other money has been put in. Look at the top.
- 10:44Speaker 4: There is this private can I say, oh, okay, it's
- 10:47Speaker 4: seven hundred and fifty six dollars and eight cents if
- 10:50Speaker 4: you don't.
- 10:50Speaker 5: Mind, thank you very much, just.
- 10:52Speaker 4: From getting away five dollars a day.
- 10:55Speaker 5: I know I was supportive of Kily, but I feel
- 10:57Speaker 5: like I want to say sucked into her. I don't
- 10:58Speaker 5: know why I've decided it's a competition. And finally, Byanka
- 11:03Speaker 5: says she's had success with her budgeting since she's had
- 11:05Speaker 5: multiple bank accounts, which I know, V You've always liked
- 11:08Speaker 5: to recommend, so she can separate her savings, emergency fund
- 11:11Speaker 5: and every day spending. But the money win. She just
- 11:14Speaker 5: moved from NAB and A and Z. She moved all
- 11:16Speaker 5: her multiple accounts to upbank and is now saving a
- 11:19Speaker 5: stack on account fees so she no longer has to
- 11:22Speaker 5: pay for that. Well done. Now I know we've mentioned
- 11:25Speaker 5: it a few times. But Victoria has a new book out,
- 11:28Speaker 5: Georgia and I. Georgia and I are gonna interview. We're
- 11:30Speaker 5: gonna be like the yeah, oh you're going to eat
- 11:32Speaker 5: the press conference type people questions. I mean, for your sake,
- 11:39Speaker 5: I would not have thought so, Jenny, all right, we'll
- 11:44Speaker 5: get to that in just a moment. Welcome back to
- 11:51Speaker 5: Friday Drinks. We just realized that we mentioned Scott Morrison
- 11:56Speaker 5: and Jenny. We obviously cky, Jenny, you've got your head
- 11:59Speaker 5: screwed on. I just want to point out that even
- 12:01Speaker 5: though we've just like podcasts aren't live live, we usually
- 12:04Speaker 5: record this the night before or whatever. Are we assuming
- 12:07Speaker 5: he's still the PM by the time this podcast comes out?
- 12:10Speaker 3: Risky, What are we drinking?
- 12:12Speaker 5: Oh?
- 12:12Speaker 3: Of course, so to usually stuff. Are you going to
- 12:16Speaker 3: do it? I will not do it.
- 12:17Speaker 4: Justice, This one's for you, sture, Jessica ricci. So, tonight
- 12:21Speaker 4: we are drinking Matso's Broom Brewery ginger beer and it's alcoholics.
- 12:26Speaker 5: It's a bit naughty, fun delicious.
- 12:28Speaker 2: The team at Matsos actually sent us a very kind
- 12:31Speaker 2: care package so general that included a number of different drinks. Firstly,
- 12:35Speaker 2: we got the ginger beer. We also got a burry
- 12:37Speaker 2: one and then like a hard lemonade. So we've been
- 12:40Speaker 2: trying them out all week and I'm not gonna lie.
- 12:43Speaker 2: They're pretty good.
- 12:44Speaker 4: So many treats way better than a little fat land.
- 12:46Speaker 4: Did you guys ever get around that?
- 12:47Speaker 5: No? Yes, one.
- 12:51Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 12:52Speaker 5: They look like a bottle of Cordy or like a
- 12:54Speaker 5: sprite bottle.
- 12:55Speaker 2: My old housemate used to buy those way back when
- 12:58Speaker 2: we used to have raging Friday, Saturday.
- 13:00Speaker 3: And Sunday nights. And I just remember the smell of.
- 13:03Speaker 4: Them, the smell and the tears, like I cried every.
- 13:07Speaker 3: Time I break a little fat lamb. It is posient.
- 13:10Speaker 5: There's a photo of me at Cotterslow Beach with a
- 13:12Speaker 5: little fat lamb taped to my left hand and a
- 13:16Speaker 5: golf club taped to my right hand and we're playing
- 13:18Speaker 5: some sort of golf drinking game at two am on
- 13:20Speaker 5: the beach because the beach is like flooded with lights
- 13:22Speaker 5: through the night and stuff. Yeah, and no one won
- 13:25Speaker 5: that game. Everyone was a loser. So Victoria's got a
- 13:29Speaker 5: book out the first of all, congratulations, Like it's on
- 13:34Speaker 5: pre or re order.
- 13:35Speaker 3: I told everybody about it.
- 13:37Speaker 5: It's written.
- 13:37Speaker 2: Yeah, it's written, has a cover, it's really pretty. I'm
- 13:40Speaker 2: really excited about it.
- 13:41Speaker 5: How long does it take to write a book?
- 13:44Speaker 3: Nearly two years?
- 13:45Speaker 2: Ge.
- 13:46Speaker 5: Since we've both been involved in the Beers, it's sort
- 13:48Speaker 5: of been this little.
- 13:49Speaker 3: Ye background and ongoing, little side project.
- 13:52Speaker 2: It's definitely been something that you know, if you know
- 13:54Speaker 2: me personally, you know that that's what's been taking up
- 13:57Speaker 2: my weekends and after work, and all of the stress
- 14:01Speaker 2: that I've been carrying has been largely due to making
- 14:04Speaker 2: sure that this is damn nearly perfect. So yeah, no,
- 14:08Speaker 2: it's very nice. It feels like a weight is off
- 14:10Speaker 2: my shoulders. Now I've handed over the final manuscript and
- 14:13Speaker 2: people are really happy with it, and we've gone through
- 14:14Speaker 2: all the final changes.
- 14:16Speaker 5: Now, something really nice that I saw in the group that,
- 14:19Speaker 5: besides everyone just saying congratulations and buying their copies and
- 14:21Speaker 5: stuff like that, one lady said, because of all the
- 14:25Speaker 5: free advice you give and we listen to the podcast
- 14:28Speaker 5: every week even if I didn't want the book, which
- 14:30Speaker 5: you did. She goes the fact that I can just
- 14:32Speaker 5: spend some money on the book as a way to
- 14:33Speaker 5: say thank you. That makes me feel really good that
- 14:36Speaker 5: I'm at least giving back a little bit.
- 14:37Speaker 2: Yeah, I saw that, I think, I replied to I
- 14:39Speaker 2: love that this community has been so supportive and like
- 14:42Speaker 2: at the same time as underlyingly knowing if I put out,
- 14:46Speaker 2: you know, the announcement that I've got a book, people
- 14:48Speaker 2: would be like, oh cool, But like, I've been absolutely
- 14:50Speaker 2: overwhelmed with support and people messaging me, people I don't know,
- 14:54Speaker 2: just congratulating me, being excited for the book, people on
- 14:57Speaker 2: Instagram sharing it with their friends.
- 14:59Speaker 5: My fai.
- 15:00Speaker 2: It is when people are like, oh, check this out,
- 15:02Speaker 2: She's done a book, and then it's their screenshot of
- 15:04Speaker 2: them ordering it.
- 15:04Speaker 3: I'm like, hasn't it come out yet? You guys are
- 15:07Speaker 3: already on it, and I love it.
- 15:09Speaker 2: It makes me so proud to one have completed it
- 15:12Speaker 2: because that wasn't a easy feat, but two like, given
- 15:15Speaker 2: I've completed it, I genuinely know the impact it can have,
- 15:19Speaker 2: especially given the success of the podcast in what's been
- 15:22Speaker 2: going on, I'm kind of like, I can't wait for
- 15:24Speaker 2: people to start using it and applying these things in
- 15:28Speaker 2: their lives and it becoming part of their journey as well,
- 15:30Speaker 2: which is really cool to think about.
- 15:32Speaker 4: What can people expect from it? V Like is it
- 15:34Speaker 4: a budgeting overhaul? Is it an a to Z of
- 15:37Speaker 4: just like everything that is not about finance, Like, how
- 15:40Speaker 4: is it laid out? What can our listeners expect?
- 15:42Speaker 2: So the whole idea is to change your relationship with money.
- 15:45Speaker 2: The idea is to take charge of your financial future
- 15:48Speaker 2: with this book, and it is the A to Z
- 15:50Speaker 2: of everything you will need to know financially. We go
- 15:53Speaker 2: through your money stories, we go through how to budget,
- 15:56Speaker 2: how to save? What is cash flow? I show you
- 15:58Speaker 2: my cash flow plan, how to set one up. We
- 16:00Speaker 2: talk about super we talk about investment. We literally talk
- 16:03Speaker 2: about everything all the way through to retirement and what
- 16:05Speaker 2: that actually means for you and how to start implementing
- 16:08Speaker 2: things today that are going to impact you in the
- 16:10Speaker 2: long term. But then weaved in between all of that
- 16:13Speaker 2: some really really kind stories that you guys and the
- 16:15Speaker 2: shees on the money community have allowed me to share.
- 16:18Speaker 3: For each of those.
- 16:19Speaker 2: Topics, we've got a money story and a little pervy
- 16:22Speaker 2: money diary so that it all becomes real and relatable
- 16:25Speaker 2: and actually tangible, because I think when you're reading about
- 16:28Speaker 2: investment it can seem really far off from really overwhelming.
- 16:31Speaker 2: So I think it's really nice to ground it and
- 16:33Speaker 2: bring it back home and go, okay, cool. But here's
- 16:35Speaker 2: someone who actually did it, and here's what they did,
- 16:37Speaker 2: and this is what their story looks like. Because at
- 16:40Speaker 2: the same time, as you know, wanting to be able
- 16:42Speaker 2: to spoon feed it to you guys, legally I'm not
- 16:45Speaker 2: allowed to because I'm a licensed financial advisor, so it
- 16:47Speaker 2: has to be general advice. So it's nice to give
- 16:48Speaker 2: some little tipbits on what other people are up to.
- 16:51Speaker 5: What are the not legalities, the social ethics morals of
- 16:58Speaker 5: if we know a friend who's tear with money, buying
- 17:00Speaker 5: them a book without like, hey, mate, here's a great
- 17:04Speaker 5: idea for you to read.
- 17:06Speaker 2: I don't know, and I'm going to compare it to
- 17:08Speaker 2: the Barefoot Investor that became a really giftable.
- 17:11Speaker 5: I got my cousin the Barefoot Investor and he was
- 17:13Speaker 5: a bit like, oh okay, and then a month later
- 17:15Speaker 5: he's like, thank you so much. And that's why I
- 17:17Speaker 5: asked this, because I feel like this is going to
- 17:18Speaker 5: be a great resource for a lot of people.
- 17:20Speaker 2: Yeah, and I loved The Barefoot Investor for a couple
- 17:23Speaker 2: of reasons, and one was its shareability and its relatability.
- 17:27Speaker 2: But the reason I didn't love it, and not because
- 17:29Speaker 2: I don't love him and what he's created is because
- 17:32Speaker 2: it's not for us. It's actually for an older demographic
- 17:35Speaker 2: and people who have different values, not young people who
- 17:39Speaker 2: really want to create financial freedom and security. Whereas his
- 17:43Speaker 2: book is kind of more about, okay, cool, like you
- 17:45Speaker 2: need to pay off your family home, you're probably going
- 17:47Speaker 2: to have a couple of kids, here's what that looks
- 17:49Speaker 2: like in the future. And for me, it's more like, well, actually,
- 17:52Speaker 2: were young, we have so much time we can invest
- 17:54Speaker 2: and create ultimate wealth. We don't need to wait for
- 17:58Speaker 2: the pension. And I think that there's something really powerful
- 18:00Speaker 2: about pegging it back a little bit and starting earlier
- 18:03Speaker 2: and younger. And to me, that's kind of a little
- 18:05Speaker 2: flex that we have. We've got heap of time up
- 18:07Speaker 2: our sleeves and we can create magic long term.
- 18:09Speaker 5: I think random question that's maybe not related to the book.
- 18:13Speaker 2: That's okay, We're all about random questions. I didn't know
- 18:15Speaker 2: I was being interviewed.
- 18:16Speaker 5: Either, so are we. And I'm going to include myself
- 18:19Speaker 5: in this because I know I'm slightly older than you
- 18:21Speaker 5: team Okay, correct us, young folks in our twenties.
- 18:24Speaker 3: Know where the dad sheese on the money hat.
- 18:27Speaker 5: I'm a sebtom dad. Will we get pension like our age?
- 18:31Speaker 5: Because you know how there's chat that like, oh, you
- 18:32Speaker 5: have to invest in your super because by the time
- 18:34Speaker 5: we get old enough, that might not be a thing anymore.
- 18:36Speaker 2: Well, it's a very real consequence of the fact that
- 18:39Speaker 2: we are spending so much on pensions at the moment,
- 18:42Speaker 2: we just don't know what funding for that looks like.
- 18:44Speaker 2: And with population growth and the age of people actually
- 18:48Speaker 2: retiring increasing but also dying increasing, we've got more of
- 18:53Speaker 2: a population to support. So I have no doubt in
- 18:55Speaker 2: some way it's going to have to be scaled back
- 18:58Speaker 2: because when you take into considerations stuff like inflation and
- 19:01Speaker 2: the rising cost of goods and services, and the fact
- 19:04Speaker 2: that the pension isn't nearly that much to begin with.
- 19:07Speaker 2: Now they're going to try and make that pension stretch
- 19:09Speaker 2: among more people, Like is that actually sustainable? Like something's
- 19:12Speaker 2: got to give. And I think for me, the best
- 19:14Speaker 2: way to actually future proof ourselves is to actually put
- 19:17Speaker 2: ourselves first and create our own future. And we can
- 19:20Speaker 2: actually do that in a really reasonable, constructive and long
- 19:24Speaker 2: term easy way, Like it is not hard to do.
- 19:27Speaker 5: This Do you reckon in the year twenty seventy, when
- 19:30Speaker 5: G and I are in the old folks home. We're
- 19:33Speaker 5: in the same one appartially, of course.
- 19:34Speaker 2: We all get scooters and like be those hoons that
- 19:37Speaker 2: like get seldom. Yes, yeah, I want to get those
- 19:39Speaker 2: streamers off the side of the handlebars. I didn't get
- 19:43Speaker 2: them on my bike when I was young, So that'll
- 19:45Speaker 2: be my way of making up.
- 19:47Speaker 5: My question is when we're all in the home, do
- 19:49Speaker 5: you reckon? There'll be a difference between people that did
- 19:51Speaker 5: something thirty years ago.
- 19:54Speaker 2: Yeah, that exists in homes across Australia at the moment
- 19:57Speaker 2: and across generations.
- 19:59Speaker 3: At the moment.
- 20:00Speaker 2: You see older people who have invested well and long
- 20:04Speaker 2: term and consistently and relatively conservatively. They're retiring without any
- 20:08Speaker 2: level of stress. And then you're seeing a lot of
- 20:10Speaker 2: people who are turning to the pension and that's their
- 20:13Speaker 2: only source of income and they feel like they can't
- 20:16Speaker 2: stop work because they also can't deal with the lack
- 20:18Speaker 2: of income that's going to come from cutting back to
- 20:21Speaker 2: the pension. Like it's it's crazy the impact finance has
- 20:24Speaker 2: on us long term, and it just makes so much
- 20:27Speaker 2: more sense to be talking about this more regularly and
- 20:30Speaker 2: more honestly and actually taking it in our stride instead
- 20:34Speaker 2: of just saying, Okay, well that's a job for future me. No,
- 20:37Speaker 2: we're looking after future me by doing this.
- 20:40Speaker 5: Gin I were talking earlier. Ill together, do we get
- 20:46Speaker 5: free drinks at some sort of book launch party?
- 20:50Speaker 3: You want free drinks?
- 20:52Speaker 5: Money? There? See?
- 20:53Speaker 3: I see.
- 20:53Speaker 5: I know it might not be locked in, but is
- 20:55Speaker 5: there something that we can look forward to or what's
- 20:57Speaker 5: your What can you say?
- 20:58Speaker 2: I I could say anything, because nothing's locked in.
- 21:02Speaker 5: What are you wanting?
- 21:03Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, I want to create She's on the
- 21:06Speaker 2: Money parties. I would love to think that we could
- 21:09Speaker 2: organize in each different state like kind of like a
- 21:11Speaker 2: meet and greet and a book launch, and we do
- 21:13Speaker 2: like a mini like workshop of one of the chapters
- 21:16Speaker 2: of the book and then just stick around to have
- 21:18Speaker 2: drinks and catch up. Like I genuinely feel, especially through
- 21:21Speaker 2: COVID last year, that I connected really deeply with my
- 21:25Speaker 2: She's on the Money community and so many people across
- 21:27Speaker 2: the country that's kind of like, Hey, it's actually the
- 21:30Speaker 2: week of the book Launch's the second birthday of She's
- 21:34Speaker 2: on the Money podcast.
- 21:35Speaker 3: Who so that's kind of wow.
- 21:36Speaker 5: Wow.
- 21:37Speaker 2: Can't we have a little birthday party and celebrate all
- 21:40Speaker 2: of that and where we've come from and who we
- 21:42Speaker 2: are in the progress we've made and the community members
- 21:45Speaker 2: that have changed their lives in two years because they
- 21:47Speaker 2: exist and that's crazy and really really cool.
- 21:50Speaker 5: Does this mean that g King on Tour will in
- 21:53Speaker 5: fact be so on tour.
- 21:57Speaker 2: Exactly? And I think that would be really fun. At
- 22:00Speaker 2: the moment, I'm looking into how to facilitate that and
- 22:03Speaker 2: what that would actually look like. But I mean, if
- 22:06Speaker 2: you guys have any ideas, please hit me up because
- 22:08Speaker 2: I need all the help I can get.
- 22:10Speaker 5: Phone party yeah in BALI, I.
- 22:12Speaker 2: Mean that's that's actually completely unattainable at this point in time.
- 22:18Speaker 3: Phone past.
- 22:18Speaker 5: They give me ideas and we did.
- 22:20Speaker 2: We just felt like, why would we throw a second
- 22:22Speaker 2: birthday party? Get some jumping castles? We could do Oh
- 22:26Speaker 2: my gosh, I would love a petting zoo. You would
- 22:28Speaker 2: actually I would go crazy for a petting zoo. You
- 22:30Speaker 2: could just be like, ah, we got a duck. There'll
- 22:32Speaker 2: be a duck, and I'll be like that is enough.
- 22:34Speaker 2: Off fly to Brisbane.
- 22:36Speaker 5: Here's my idea. The book is called Obviously she's on
- 22:39Speaker 5: the money.
- 22:40Speaker 3: I make the most of that title.
- 22:43Speaker 5: Here's the challenge I'd like to put into the Facebook
- 22:45Speaker 5: group for the weekend.
- 22:46Speaker 3: Okay, what is it?
- 22:48Speaker 5: What is your alternative possibly pun base but not a
- 22:52Speaker 5: hard rule, but your fun random alternative book title? What
- 22:57Speaker 5: could it be called?
- 22:58Speaker 3: What should have t Yeah?
- 23:00Speaker 5: Book? And you know, wink wink, nudge, nad, just come
- 23:02Speaker 5: up with something funny and the funniest one free book.
- 23:05Speaker 2: Yep, I'm so excited to give away so many free books.
- 23:08Speaker 2: I literally cannot wage. That was one of the things.
- 23:10Speaker 2: You know, when you negotiate a book contract, you actually
- 23:13Speaker 2: go to mean.
- 23:14Speaker 5: You know, no, we don't know who knows that you
- 23:16Speaker 5: know what negotiated book?
- 23:18Speaker 2: I don't know that, to be honest, turns out, when
- 23:21Speaker 2: you negotiate a book contract, you actually like have a
- 23:25Speaker 2: certain number of like author copies that you get.
- 23:27Speaker 3: And here's meebing like how many can gay yet? And
- 23:29Speaker 3: they're like, why do you want so many copies.
- 23:31Speaker 2: Of your book so I can give it away like Oprah?
- 23:34Speaker 2: So it can be Oprah, but on a very tiny scale.
- 23:37Speaker 5: So how many did you get?
- 23:39Speaker 3: I can't even remember, to be honest, it was a
- 23:40Speaker 3: while ago.
- 23:41Speaker 2: Okay, but you best believe I'll be buying so many
- 23:43Speaker 2: copies so I can give them away.
- 23:45Speaker 5: All right, So we're obviously excited about the launch. Office's
- 23:47Speaker 5: on the money of the book. But our mates, I mean,
- 23:50Speaker 5: so you should be two years of hard work. I mean,
- 23:52Speaker 5: at least crack a smile.
- 23:54Speaker 3: I did, and I also cracked a.
- 23:55Speaker 5: Be So our mates at up Bank have also launched
- 23:59Speaker 5: something of their own.
- 24:00Speaker 2: They actually have which is really fun, and you can
- 24:02Speaker 2: find me on their website because they have partnered with
- 24:06Speaker 2: me to do a Master your Money Goals series for
- 24:09Speaker 2: their easy Money campaign. And I'm not sure if you
- 24:11Speaker 2: guys have seen this yet. I'm just really excited about
- 24:13Speaker 2: it because they did a TikTok filter where you can
- 24:16Speaker 2: like eat.
- 24:16Speaker 3: The dollar coin.
- 24:17Speaker 2: You kind of look silly, but it's kind of addictive
- 24:19Speaker 2: and you kind of look really dumb, but like looking.
- 24:22Speaker 3: Dumb can be fun, right, Georgia.
- 24:23Speaker 5: Absolutely, I saw that ten million people have used that
- 24:26Speaker 5: I got ten million views, or I saw that million
- 24:28Speaker 5: people having a good time.
- 24:29Speaker 2: Yeah, they've done a really good job of it. And
- 24:31Speaker 2: I actually got to go to their office a couple
- 24:33Speaker 2: of weeks ago and I did this fancy photo shoot
- 24:36Speaker 2: and they'd set everything up and then they let me
- 24:38Speaker 2: have lunch with their team and they made me so
- 24:41Speaker 2: many snacks, like rock Well from up Bank actually organized
- 24:44Speaker 2: this epicating which was all gluten free and vegan, and
- 24:47Speaker 2: it was like so good.
- 24:49Speaker 3: I had to keep questioning him, being.
- 24:50Speaker 2: Like, is this usual, because like that's chocolate pastry, Like
- 24:54Speaker 2: that is two things that I'm usually not allowed to eat.
- 24:57Speaker 3: Turns out it was. We also drank at eleven am.
- 25:01Speaker 5: I was gonna say, I'm pretty sure I saw you
- 25:03Speaker 5: later on that afternoon. I was about to ask if
- 25:04Speaker 5: they were drinking Bold because I've had this Upbank finger. Yeah.
- 25:07Speaker 2: So I was their office and their office is actually
- 25:09Speaker 2: epic and I'm a little bit jealous of it. But
- 25:12Speaker 2: we're working on this little campaign together, which is actually
- 25:15Speaker 2: why they're sponsoring today's episode. They didn't sponsor this segment,
- 25:17Speaker 2: but I just wanted to talk about them anyway. But essentially,
- 25:20Speaker 2: we're combining that She's on the Money advice with smart
- 25:22Speaker 2: upmoves so that you can put all of your money
- 25:25Speaker 2: goals into action and actually use a bank the best
- 25:28Speaker 2: way that you possibly can, which I'm really excited about.
- 25:30Speaker 2: But there's a whole money Goals series coming up, and
- 25:32Speaker 2: I think that you guys would actually be pretty interested.
- 25:35Speaker 3: In it because it's essentially free workshops.
- 25:37Speaker 5: So funnywin up dot com dot Au slash She's on
- 25:41Speaker 5: the Money.
- 25:42Speaker 3: I'm on a bank website.
- 25:45Speaker 4: It is very fun already, guys, it has been in
- 25:47Speaker 4: an absolute hoot. But I think that is probably all
- 25:50Speaker 4: we have time for today before we sadly, always sadly,
- 25:56Speaker 4: before we do head off, we'd of course like to
- 25:57Speaker 4: acknowledge and pay respect to Australia's Aboriginal and Torres Strait
- 26:01Speaker 4: Islander people's, the traditional custodians of the lands, the waterways
- 26:04Speaker 4: and the skies right across Australia. We thank you for
- 26:08Speaker 4: sharing and caring for the land on which we are
- 26:10Speaker 4: able to learn. We pay our respects to elder's past
- 26:12Speaker 4: and present, and share our friendship and kindness. And please
- 26:16Speaker 4: remember everyone that the advice shared on She's on the

- 26:48Speaker 2: didn't know.
- 26:49Speaker 3: What So shout out to Amy Lenardi.
