- 0:03access to cutting edge hypnosis with real clients facing genuine
- 0:07issues. Brought to you by the
- 0:10hypnotherapist, demanded by celebrities, CEOs and even
- 0:14royalty. Adam Cox.
- 0:16These recordings took place live from Adam's clinic in London's
- 0:19world famous Harley Street. This podcast features powerful
- 0:23hypnosis, so do not listen while driving or operating machinery.
- 0:27This recording is not suitable for those with epilepsy or
- 0:30severe mental health issues, so get yourself comfortable and
- 0:34enjoy today's episode of The Hypnotist.
- 0:40Hi, it's Adam here. And in this episode of The
- 0:43Hypnotist, you'll be listening to a hypnosis session designed
- 0:48to let go, particularly of two key emotions, sadness and
- 0:54regret. And I was working with a lady
- 0:57that two key things had happened. 1 was a relationship
- 1:04changed with close family members and then the second was
- 1:11a a fall that led to pain and injuries that were ongoing.
- 1:17And like most things, it's not what happens, it's the meaning
- 1:23that you attribute to what happens.
- 1:26And they attributed elements of regret that they did the wrong
- 1:32thing, they made a mistake, that somehow they made their life
- 1:35worse. And even the pain was leading to
- 1:41elements of in some ways punishment or deserving of that
- 1:48pain. And these narratives can amplify
- 1:51unuseful emotions, But they could recall a time when they
- 1:56felt really active and healthy and strong and positive and
- 2:00optimistic. And that was a time where they
- 2:03were travelling in Europe. And specifically, they could
- 2:06recall swimming in the ocean just off the coast of Malta.
- 2:12So because they could recall this, I introduced a metaphor
- 2:16where they're trying to swim where big heavy bags are
- 2:20attached to their waist, weighing them down.
- 2:23One bag is sadness and the other is regret.
- 2:27And of course, it's easier to swim if you're not carrying a
- 2:30weight. But the interesting thing is, is
- 2:33that this client is or was carrying this weight.
- 2:36They were carrying the weight of sadness and regret, and of
- 2:39course that's going to impede the quality of their life.
- 2:42So there's a metaphor that the client could relate to because
- 2:46they could recall swimming the ocean, swimming around a big
- 2:48rock, and then returning back to the shore.
- 2:51So it utilizes a personal experience and then uses certain
- 2:56elements of acceptance and commitment therapy fused with
- 3:01clinical hypnotherapy to have this idea of letting go, letting
- 3:05go of emotions that don't serve them.
- 3:09And like most things, even what most people would call negative
- 3:14emotions, I think that's a lazy term in all honesty.
- 3:18It's other useful or unuseful emotions.
- 3:22And regret can be a really good emotion if it encourages you to
- 3:28take the wisdom from the experience and think about what
- 3:31you would do differently. The purpose of regret is not to
- 3:35punish you and shame you for a mistake.
- 3:38It's to encourage you to learn and make better choices in the
- 3:42future. And that's better choices based
- 3:45on your value system, no one else's.
- 3:48So if you can relate to this idea of carrying around sadness
- 3:52or regret, I think you'll get a lot of value from this session.
- 3:57Obviously some of the references won't correlate because it was
- 4:00created for a very specific individual.
- 4:02So if you like the idea of working with me directly, there
- 4:05will be a link in the show notes.
- 4:06Or you can check out my website adamcox.co.uk and there there
- 4:11will be a link to schedule a free 30 minute consultation call
- 4:14on Zoom. For now though, find a quiet,
- 4:17comfortable place where you won't be disturbed.
- 4:19Relax and enjoy the session. Take a deep breath in, and as
- 5:07you breathe in, just imagine breathing in a slow, calm,
- 5:15relaxing breath, and as you exhale, feel a wonderful sense
- 5:23of release. As you scan your body for any
- 5:28clues of tension, just imagine that tension leaves your body on
- 5:36your outward breath. And this time, as you breathe
- 5:41in, just imagine breathing in the brightest, whitest, healing
- 5:50white light. And as you imagine breathing in,
- 5:55just imagine that bright white healing light going in through
- 5:59your nose down into your lungs. And use the power of your
- 6:09imagination to imagine your heart extracting the healing
- 6:15energy of that white light and distributing it to every cell,
- 6:24every bone, every tendon in your body.
- 6:32In the same way that your body knows how to extract oxygen from
- 6:37the air distributed to your body.
- 6:42And as you exhale, exhale the waste.
- 6:46Exhale that carbon dioxide. But I want you to imagine that
- 6:53instead of exhaling just carbon dioxide, imagine you are
- 7:00exhaling any discomfort, any tension, any heavy emotions of
- 7:10the past, but also any unwanted, unnecessary pain.
- 7:23As you breathe out, see that leaving your body is a dark
- 7:27shadowy colour. Breathing in the healing white
- 7:32light and exhaling pain, discomfort, tension.
- 7:40Just imagine it leaving your body.
- 7:46Consider this an emotional transfusion, giving your body
- 7:50relaxation, resources and healing energy, and then
- 7:55exhaling whatever your body has been holding onto that it
- 8:00doesn't need anymore, breathing in and breathing out.
- 8:11The deeper you breathe, the more relaxed you feel, and the more
- 8:16relaxed you feel, the deeper you breathe.
- 8:23And I want you to use the power of your imagination to imagine
- 8:29seeing a photograph of you on a rocky beach in Malta.
- 8:40It doesn't matter if the photograph exists or not.
- 8:44Just imagine it seeing you at that age, at that time in your
- 8:51life, knowing that you were filled with resources like
- 8:58courage, confidence, determination, tenacity, but
- 9:05also health, vitality, strength. And I want you to imagine
- 9:13staring into the picture, seeing you on that beach, accepting
- 9:22that that version of you had those qualities.
- 9:27And when you can imagine you on a beach in Malta, brimming with
- 9:34the very qualities and resources that would be useful for you.
- 9:37Now let me know by nodding your head and then imagine how could
- 9:46it would feel to step into the photo.
- 9:53You are now on the same beach, seeing that younger version of
- 9:59you, and I want you to get a sense that you have wisdom that
- 10:07that younger version of you didn't have, and that younger
- 10:11version of you has resources that would be useful for you
- 10:17now. So imagine stepping into that
- 10:23younger version of you and you're giving that younger
- 10:27version of you your wisdom and insight and you're feeling how
- 10:32good it feels to have that mobility, strength, courage, and
- 10:38confidence. Feel how good it feels.
- 10:44I feel that you are reawakening those neural pathways that knows
- 10:52how to move, how to feel liberated and free.
- 10:59I want you to imagine staring out into the cold sea and seeing
- 11:05a big rock and just deciding just for fun, as a challenge to
- 11:17go into the cold waters and swim around the big rock.
- 11:25And if you're ready to do that, let me know by nodding your
- 11:27head. So just imagine you're wearing
- 11:34whatever clothing is necessary, useful, desirable for you to do
- 11:39this. And imagine walking into the
- 11:42sea, walking with a sense of purpose, confidence,
- 11:50determination and tenacity as your toes and feet hit the
- 11:56water. Notice it's cold, but that
- 11:59doesn't faze you as you understand that things don't
- 12:05have to be easy in order to be worthwhile.
- 12:12As you submerge into the cold water, you may even make the
- 12:18evaluation that the cold sea water has healing properties.
- 12:26Many people will take ice baths or cold showers just to activate
- 12:33the body's powerful healing properties.
- 12:35But you don't need that. Allow the coldness of the sea
- 12:41water to feel that it's activating your immune system,
- 12:47it's stimulating your body's healing powers.
- 12:52And then imagine swimming in the water in whatever stroke and
- 12:57style is the right one for you. Imagine you've been swimming for
- 13:07two or three minutes and it occurs to you something is
- 13:14hindering your swimming. I want you to imagine there are
- 13:21two bags attached to a belt on your waist.
- 13:30Heavy bags. Bags perhaps filled with what
- 13:34feels like pebbles and stones. I want you to get a sense that
- 13:42even though you can swim with these bags heavy around your
- 13:49waist, it doesn't make it easy. See, you have a choice.
- 13:56You can either continue to swim with these heavy bags around
- 14:00your waist, or you can detach the bags and let them go.
- 14:10The bag tag on the left side of your waist.
- 14:15Let's just call it regret. And as you're swimming in the
- 14:21ocean, I want you to think of one specific thing that knowing
- 14:28what you now know, you would have done differently.
- 14:34Perhaps you can even go back to that memory, see everything that
- 14:40happened, but this time as an observer seeing you, seeing what
- 14:50happened, and notice how much additional insight you get when
- 14:59you become the observer no longer in your body.
- 15:06Almost like imaginary person just watching everything that's
- 15:11happening. I want you to see everything as
- 15:17it happened in that moment of regret and get a sense that
- 15:24knowing everything that you now know.
- 15:27Of course, you could do things differently.
- 15:31That doesn't mean you did anything wrong.
- 15:35You didn't have the inside and the wisdom then that you now
- 15:40have. You did the best you could with
- 15:44the resources you have, but you have more resources now.
- 15:50And one of those resources is wisdom.
- 15:56And when you've seen that moment of regret and you feel that
- 16:01you've got all of the insight and wisdom that you could
- 16:05possibly extract from that memory, let me know by nodding
- 16:09your head. Just like a piece of fruit, like
- 16:14an orange that's been squeezed so that there isn't a single
- 16:18drop more. You've extracted all the wisdom
- 16:22from that memory and then rewind it and play it forward the way
- 16:33you would have wanted it to have happened.
- 16:35If you had all the wisdom that you now have back then, what
- 16:48would you do differently? What would you say differently?
- 16:52Would you take more time to think, consider, allow yourself
- 16:58to regulate your emotions in different ways?
- 17:03Just allow yourself to be the observer, seeing that version of
- 17:11you doing things differently with the wisdom applied, but
- 17:18noticing that you've got so many different choices.
- 17:24You get to keep playing different scenarios, different
- 17:27possibilities, until you find the one that you liked.
- 17:34And when you found a way of updating that moment, not to
- 17:39change the past, but to communicate to your own
- 17:43conscious mind that of course you're wiser now because you
- 17:49would have handled that situation differently when you
- 17:55found the right update, Let me know by nodding your head.
- 18:02That's in. And then find yourself back
- 18:06there in the ocean. And because you've applied the
- 18:09wisdom to that moment, you can now detach that heavy bag of
- 18:16regret and just see it falling down to the bottom of the ocean
- 18:22floor and noticing that it's so much easier to swim now because
- 18:29you're not holding on to that regret.
- 18:33But there is a second bag attached to you, another heavy
- 18:38bag that we can call sadness. And I want you to think of one
- 18:46specific thing that's been making you sad.
- 18:53Maybe something you feel like you've lost, something that
- 18:58happened that you wish didn't. Some kind of evaluation that
- 19:03you've made that leads to a feeling of sadness.
- 19:11Hold on to that bag while you're swimming and think of 1 moment
- 19:20more than any other that's responsible for the sadness in
- 19:25this bag that you're carrying around.
- 19:30If the purpose of regret is to lead to wisdom, the purpose of
- 19:38sadness is to lead to acceptance.
- 19:43And I want you to think back to a moment of sadness again.
- 19:52Be the observer, see what happened, but this time
- 20:02objectively see what happened without having to do anything or
- 20:10change anything, but through the lens of acceptance when
- 20:21something is truly. Accepted.
- 20:26It enables you to no longer focus on the cloud, but the
- 20:32silver lining. No longer the curse but the
- 20:37blessing. No longer the problem, but the
- 20:43solution. So keep looking at that moment
- 20:49of sadness from all the different perspectives.
- 20:54Imagine seeing it in reverse, seeing it from above, seeing it
- 21:00in black and white, or looking at the same moment like it's a
- 21:04cartoon. Keep seeing that same moment
- 21:09until you can see it and not feel any sadness anymore.
- 21:16Maybe you shrink it down and send it a mile away, make it so
- 21:22small and far away that even though the memory exists, it no
- 21:28longer makes you feel anything. And when you've reached the
- 21:34point of acceptance that you accept what has happened and
- 21:41have detached any emotional pain from that, let me know by
- 21:46nodding your head. And in doing so, feel a weight
- 21:56being detached, specifically the weight of sadness that's been
- 22:02holding you down. See it or feel it?
- 22:07They're on your waist while you're swimming in the ocean and
- 22:10detach it. You've now let go of regret and
- 22:15sadness and notice how much lighter you feel, how much
- 22:21easier it is to make progress, to swim forwards.
- 22:29You are still the same you, but without carrying that sadness
- 22:34and regret. You can make progress quicker.
- 22:41And progress when swimming around a rock is every stroke,
- 22:48every kick of the feet, movement of the arms moves you forward.
- 22:56And as you imagine making progress swimming around the
- 22:59rock, perhaps on your way back to shore, I want you to think
- 23:04about what does progress look like tomorrow?
- 23:12What would represent 1% incremental progress in
- 23:22different areas of your life? What would emotional progress
- 23:27look like? What would physical progress
- 23:31look like? What would social progress look
- 23:35like? Social progress could just be
- 23:41reaching out to someone you haven't spoken to in a while and
- 23:46wishing them a happy New year. Physical progress could be
- 23:53moving or walking just slightly more than you normally would.
- 24:00Emotional progress could be forgiving yourself, even if it's
- 24:08for just one thing. And when you get a sense of what
- 24:14progress could look like tomorrow and the day after that,
- 24:17let me know about nodding your head and feel that you're
- 24:23swimming back to shore, feeling that something has changed.
- 24:28When you left, you were carrying the weight of that regret and
- 24:31sadness. But now, as you return, it's no
- 24:35longer there. You feel lighter.
- 24:38You feel more resourceful. You feel healthier.
- 24:43You feel like you have permission to forgive yourself
- 24:48and to focus on tiny, incremental progress.
- 24:56And as you return back to the shore feeling refreshed,
- 25:01rejuvenated but also proud of your accomplishment, allow
- 25:08swimming around the rock to be a metaphor that you can handle
- 25:11difficult challenges, you can face adversity and you are
- 25:18stronger and more capable than you realise.
- 25:23That's it. So as you breathe in and breathe
- 25:27out there on that beach in Malta, get a sense that you're
- 25:34now holding a picture that you're looking into, but this
- 25:37time seeing yourself at your current age on that beach in
- 25:43Malta, looking healthy, strong and vital.
- 25:47It's time to return to the here and now, but allowing all these
- 25:52positive changes to come back with you.
- 25:56So take a deep breath in through your nose and out through your
- 26:01nose. Just wiggle your fingers and
- 26:04wiggle your toes as I now count from 1:00 to 10:00 to awaken
- 26:07you. You will awaken feeling
- 26:10resourceful, calm and confident. Feeling that the future is
- 26:16brighter and more optimistic. Starting to count 123 Waking up
- 26:25456 More alert 7-8. Open your eyes.
- 26:28Open your eyes 910. Wide awake, wide awake, wide
- 26:34awake. Thank you for listening to The
