- 2:00We are back after a summer hiatus. Welcome to Still Comfy Tuesday with Julia
- 2:08and Natalie. We have missed you all. Yeah, and we've missed movies.
- 2:15Yeah, movies. We've missed the weather being below ninety degrees. Yes,
- 2:22yeah, hi friends. I'm Julia Washington, your host of pop culture
- 2:25makes me jealous. We analyze pop culture through the lens of race or gender,
- 2:29and sometimes both. As I said, it's Still Comfy Tuesday, and
- 2:31my co host is I'm Natalie Katona. I'm the host and producer of To
- 2:38All the Men I've Tolerated Before, your weekly look at every day misogyny and
- 2:42watch everyone I can be in the chat. I'm so excited, and we
- 2:46are talking about Freaky Friday. Freaky Friday. It is a two thousand and
- 2:53three gem. And let me tell you about this movie from the Googles.
- 3:00Mother Tess Coleman and her teenage daughter Anna couldn't be more different, and it
- 3:06is driving them both insane. After receiving cryptic fortunes at a Chinese restaurant,
- 3:12the two wake up the next day to discover that they have somehow switched bodies.
- 3:16Unable to switch back, they are forced to masquerade as one another until
- 3:22a solution can be found. In the process, they develop a new sense
- 3:25of respect and understanding for one another. Who needs AI when you could hire
- 3:30me? Well, honestly, did you rewrite that? Because usually we just
- 3:36rip it straight from Google. No, that's from Google, and I did
- 3:38it in my best AI voice. Oh, you did it in your AI
- 3:42voice. You forgot to do the weird hands. You got it if and
- 3:46then you have to go, and then you have to end every sentence with
- 3:47gangganin. I don't know why. The gang gain is very important. It's
- 3:54very important to the AI for tend day. Oh my god. Okay,
- 4:01Natalie, I do have one question for you to kick off this movie.
- 4:05Are you ready? I'm ready? Or rather this chat? Okay? Why
- 4:13do we love this movie? Why do we love? I love Jamie Lee
- 4:15Curtis. Fuck yeah, me too. I love Jamie Lee Curtis, and
- 4:19I want to spend every day with Jamie Lee Curtis, and I want her
- 4:23to be telling everyone to fuck off on my behalf and I she like a
- 4:29fine wine. She just gets better and better as she gets older. And
- 4:32like when I was a kid, Jamie Lee Curtis was like the Yo,
- 4:35the yogurt lady, the lady who's like, yeah, I eat yogurt,
- 4:40it'll make you. And I remember to when she did that campaign where she
- 4:46was like no touch ups and she was essentially in like bike shorts and like
- 4:48a sportspra and I was just like, girl, you look good. And
- 4:53like my Grandma Peg when she started to go gray, she was like,
- 4:56I'm just gonna do it. And my Grandma Peg started going gray, she
- 5:00was like twenty seven years old. Holy buckets, that's so young. M
- 5:03hm. So Jamie Lee Curtis always reminds me of my grandma. One of
- 5:09the Halloween movies, it wasn't this last one. It was one before when
- 5:13the house is on fire, and I was like, this whole movie should
- 5:15just be the house on fire, but also Michael Myers is there and you're
- 5:18trying to escape the fire, but also Michael Myers, and that's not what
- 5:21the movie was. But my sister says that Jamie Lee Curtis acts just like
- 5:27Grandma Peg because she's just sitting there like in a smoky raspy boys being like,
- 5:30we'll never escape Michael the bastard. She's like, it was given me
- 5:36real Peg energy. That's so interesting because like, I don't know what you're
- 5:43talking about when it comes to the Halloween movies. As you know, I
- 5:46don't do scary. It was weird. But I did know of Jamie Lee
- 5:53Curtis before I saw any of her work, because we are an old movie's
- 5:59family, and so I saw some like it, some like it hot,
- 6:03and I knew that Tony Curtis was her dad, and like I just like
- 6:08so, I knew about her Hollywood royalty status before I ever had seen her
- 6:14in a movie. And let me tell you another reason why I love this
- 6:17movie. I like seeing Lindsay Lohan. Well, I just like, like,
- 6:23you know, she's such a gem and she's so talented, and I
- 6:27think that if I always wonder what would have been if she had had parents
- 6:31who weren't trying to live their dreams through their child, what her adult life
- 6:36could have looked like? Right? Thanks Dina, Thanks Dina Lohan. I
- 6:45am truly ready for the Lindsay Lohan sons where she because you know, she
- 6:50did that Netflix Christmas movie, The Christmas Movie. But I don't know if
- 6:55she we're gonna get a true renaissance from her because she is married to someone
- 7:00who has a very not the way that Americans view conservative lifestyle. Modest,
- 7:08oh, a modest lifestyle. So I think that's gonna pose limitations on what
- 7:14not that I'm saying that you have to be risque when you are an actor,
- 7:19when there's religion modesty involved, That does sort of change the nature of
- 7:25what your work is. I'd be fine with just a Christmas movie every year.
- 7:29I found that Christmas movie delightful. Yeah, it was cute. What's
- 7:32that kid's name, cord Over Street, that's it. I was like,
- 7:36it hit some of the musical from Glee. From Glee, that's right.
- 7:46I find that this movie is incredibly delightful regardless of what age you are.
- 7:54Yeah, no, do you feel like this movie? This was the first
- 7:58question I wrote down for you. Do you feel like that first scene where
- 8:01Jamie Lee Curtis is juggling trying to plan her rehearsal dinner, like arguing with
- 8:07the man about fish, shopping for her kids. Also like my head,
- 8:11I'm sorry I should have closed trying to like figure out whether or not Lindsay
- 8:20Lohan's coming home that night. Do you feel like this is one of the
- 8:24more realistic, like actual portraits of single motherhood that we have. Yeah,
- 8:33I do, because I feel like she has her shit together to an extent,
- 8:37like her hot messness. Isn't that exists? Isn't because of anything?
- 8:43That? What am I trying to say? I feel like when I was
- 8:50a professional business woman, this was very relatable. Yeah. No, I'm
- 8:58a little annoyed that, like, like, why isn't your fiance helping more?
- 9:03Right? But although it's not a movie about him well and like the
- 9:07surprise twist ending where it's like he's a great guy, I'm like, great,
- 9:13good for him, good for him being a great guy. I think
- 9:20it falls short on how real Like I think when it comes to teeny and
- 9:30Lindsey Lohan, it's so satire and upped an anti that I'm like, girl,
- 9:35no one shrieks that much. No one has the time to shriek that
- 9:37much during their shool. It's very it's very disney fied. Yeah, like
- 9:41it is very punched up for Disney that's for sure. Absolutely. I couldn't
- 9:46remember was this a movie theater movie or a straight to Disney movie movie theater
- 9:52movie movie theater movie. It reads kind of now like a straight to the
- 9:56Disney Channel movie. Well, and I think that that this is when did
- 10:00and He's starting to sort of change how they navigate what goes in the theater
- 10:05and what goes to Disney Channel, because yeah, they had Disney Channel content,
- 10:09but they were really starting to focus in and hone in on like that
- 10:13tween age. Because also Cheetah Girls came out around this time, but that
- 10:20was great. Cheat it might have been Cheata Girls might have been a little
- 10:24bit later, but like that's this era, right, Like it's like we
- 10:28are starting to get well maybe because Cheetah Girls might have been later, because
- 10:31I'm thinking High School Musical, well that was like two thousand and seven.
- 10:37Yeah, I was. It's all within that generation. Though. Yeah,
- 10:41I was too old to like high school musical by the time he came out,
- 10:45because I was in college and I was like, I don't care that
- 10:48zach Efron really wants to play basketball, no, but I too appreciate the
- 10:52evolution of his career. So I can watch his movies now start from the
- 11:00him now we're here, mm hmm yeah, and so like, I feel
- 11:05like this is definitely a movie that is intended to be silly and fun and
- 11:11so in what I don't know if you knew this, but our friend Chris
- 11:15DeRosa came on to pop Culture makes Me jealous to talk about this film,
- 11:18and he commented on just how wonderful it is in so many ways. And
- 11:24one of the reviews I had found when I was prepping for that chat.
- 11:28I forget who the reviewer was, it might have been The New York Times
- 11:31essentially said, it is a shame that Jamie Lee Curtis will not be considered
- 11:35for Oscar content, like as an Oscar contender, because her performance in this
- 11:41movie is flawless and perfect and so varied with its range. And when you
- 11:46watch it, you're like, yeah, because she is. She's got so
- 11:50much going on, it's so believable, and just the way she go from
- 11:54buttoned up, stuffy mom who's trying roll hard to be like the best version
- 12:00of everything with her book and she's a psychologist, right, and so like
- 12:05there's a certain level of I have to have my shit together for that,
- 12:09and she and then to flip to behave like a teenager in the way that
- 12:15she It's so it's it really takes acting chops to do something like that so
- 12:20believably well. And we already got a taste of this from the parent Trap
- 12:24with My Low Hand. But she's also a code switcher. She can like
- 12:30immediately be like, oh now my character is doing this. Oh now I'm
- 12:33an uptype Yeah. Yeah, And I felt like their physicality and orphan is
- 12:39the new black. Nope, orphan black. I do it all the time.
- 12:46How dare those shows come out in the same year? How dare ever
- 12:50since orban Black. I'm obsessed with the way that characters who are either playing
- 12:56multiple roles within the same film or are made to act like there's someone else
- 13:03or whatever, it will change their body position and their body structure and their
- 13:09facial expressions on a dime. Because Tatiana Maslani was perfect that that throughout the
- 13:16entire show. She was often playing like fifteen people in episode yeah. And
- 13:20I think it really does speak to the difference between people who are into that
- 13:26craft of acting versus people who just want to be in movies or who just
- 13:31want to be famous, And I think that Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Loewen
- 13:35were the perfect pairing to play the mother and daughter duo because in two thousand
- 13:39and three, when I think about the teenaged actors at the time, I
- 13:43don't think anybody else could have done it. And when I think about the
- 13:48mom aged actors that existed at the time, I honestly don't think anybody else
- 13:54could have done it. Like Goldie Han's a great actress, I don't think
- 13:58she could have pulled this off. No, And Goldiehan has a different type
- 14:03of physical comedy than Jamie Lee Curtis. Yes, And then I was thinking
- 14:07about Okay, then I fell down the First Wives Club, right, I
- 14:09was like, oh, And then Diane Keaton, It's like no, because
- 14:11there need there would need to be like a moment where she screams real loud
- 14:16and has a moment of panic and then falls down, and and that just
- 14:20doesn't work for this movie either, because that would then compete with the teenager
- 14:26storyline. Correct. Yeah, and I do think that the most interesting part
- 14:33of this movie is besides the little boy, the grandpa, and the soon
- 14:39to be stepdad, every other man in this movie is like such an insult
- 14:43WEIRDO. I'm glad you brought it up because I have another question for you
- 14:50for it. Yeah, oh that's right. One of my first note for
- 14:58today's episode is I forgot chan Michael Murray was in this We don't like his
- 15:05hair in this movie better than Lucas's hair. It's two thousand and three,
- 15:11so everyone had bad hair, and I feel like it's it's just Lucas Scott.
- 15:18If Lucas Scott could play guitar. Do you know what it's Lucas Scott.
- 15:24Do it out o, Jamie jamiely Oh. I forgot to remind everybody
- 15:33we don't know that you're here because we're using a third party streaming source to
- 15:37get to YouTube. So in order for us to know that you're here,
- 15:39drop a comment, join in on our conversation, answer our questions that we're
- 15:43putting up here. Let us know you're here even if you're watching the replay,
- 15:46because we still get notified that you commented, and then we can respond
- 15:52back. And I'm always online and I will respond back, even if it's
- 15:56just with the fearless heart. This is my emoji of the year. Just
- 16:00love yourless heart. Yes, Okay, back to Chad Michael Murray and playing
- 16:07Lucas Scott in every film. Do we need to go down the rabbit hole
- 16:10of his movie catalog with Hallmark to see if he continues to be Lucas Scott
- 16:15even well into his adulthood. Do you remember? Do you remember? It
- 16:18was last Christmas? I was in a dark place and I was like,
- 16:22I want to watch a Chad Michael Murray Christmas movie and they're all on Hallmark.
- 16:26I don't have Hallmark because I don't have money, and I found one
- 16:30that I could like watch on Prime or Hulu or something, and it was
- 16:37when I tell you he was playing an angel, and I guess he plays
- 16:41this angel in a couple of these movies. And he was like, you
- 16:45know, you know when like you know when like people of the church are
- 16:52trying to be like very calm and not startle you that they are of the
- 16:55church. So it was like, why, yes, I would love some
- 16:59huck hoko. And then like in the US, because he's just trying to
- 17:06be like holier and like withdrawn from general society. I think we should go
- 17:11back to playing angels like John Travolta did in Michael Oh my god, that's
- 17:17a callback. I haven't seen that movie since it released. In the movie
- 17:19theaterestly put it on the list we need to do John Travilta and Michael a
- 17:26movie that I should do a Watching Way Too Young? Well, yeah,
- 17:29because it came out when I was thirteen, So I was to say we
- 17:33should do a whole segment series of just movie because then there's City of Angels
- 17:37with Nicholas Cage and Meg Ryan. Have you seen that one. Yeah,
- 17:40we're gonna do. We're gonna go real churchy and just do angel movies.
- 17:45I don't know, should we I don't know. That's why we're here.
- 17:48We're here to talk about Chad Michael Murray falling in love with Jamie Lee Curtis.
- 17:52It's weird and that is like, truly, I've been thinking about this
- 17:56all day. How do you modernize this movie without having a teenage girl having
- 18:03to pretend to love her future stepdad in a sexual way and a teenage boy,
- 18:07like especially when you learn about the grown woman, especially when you think
- 18:12about how much better millennials aged than boomers, because like, have you seen
- 18:19modern day Chad Michael Murray? I know you have that man is fine,
- 18:23could you imagine him playing the future stepdad and then like I don't know what,
- 18:29Sidney Sweeney playing the teenaged girl like like or even like like Kate Hadson's
- 18:34forty three. Yeah, so she could be the Jamie Lee Curtis stepmom,
- 18:40right. I mean, I don't know if she has the acting capabilities to
- 18:44do it. But like when I think about just on appearance alone, if
- 18:48they remade this movie, everyone would just look like all the same, all
- 18:56the same that like the teen you know what I mean. It's like wait
- 18:59and then and then everyone's hot in Hollywood now whereas you know that you know
- 19:03what I mean? But now, but all I can think about is a
- 19:07euphoria version of Freaky Friday where it's gritty and Daya's screaming about drugs in the
- 19:15middle of the street. Sydney Sweeten or whatever her name is, funk your
- 19:18stepdad and she has no fucks to give about it, like gritty reboot of
- 19:25Freaky Friend. Because the original original was Jodie Foster, Oh, Jody ninety
- 19:30six or nineteen seventy seven somewhere around there. I am always floored by how
- 19:36old Jodi Foster is. I know, and I and when I watched that,
- 19:41when I watched the original not that long ago, and it was like,
- 19:44everyone looks exactly how you think they would look in nineteen seventy six,
- 19:48right, Like dad's kind of aged but still working and kind of dopey,
- 19:53like like the mom. The woman who plays the mom is so beautiful and
- 19:57you're just looking at this couple and you're just like, how she's gorgeous,
- 20:02and you're there. I need Phil Dumpy to be in the reboot of Freaky
- 20:07Friday. That's the only dad that no one's hitting on. Yeah, yeah,
- 20:11yeah, you know what, you would have to source people who are
- 20:15over fifty to play this, if not more so, because even then,
- 20:18and I told you this today, I was listening to pog Meat's World and
- 20:21Mark Paul the Mark Paul Gossler episode, and you know, in my mind,
- 20:26he's fine and I think he's close to he'll be fifty next year.
- 20:30Yeah, and he looks so good. Yeah, it's because he too has
- 20:37been touched by an angel. He real churchy. Now, a lot of
- 20:41those eighties sitcom dudes got real churchy. Who's the growing Pains guy? Well,
- 20:47that one was always churchy. Oh you're talking about Candice Cameron's brother,
- 20:51Kirk Cameron. The Camerons were always cared the Camerons. The Camerons were all
- 20:55Hollywood. Yeah, yeah, but yeah, it's it's just so ridiculous to
- 21:06try and think about this movie in modern day. Because I did, I
- 21:11had like, I'm like, I don't actually like and I think it's because
- 21:17Jamie Lee Curtis is doing it so well and Chad Michael Murray. It is
- 21:22a fun role to see Chad Michael Murray in because he's very often not silly,
- 21:26and he was like silly sappy in this way, right. And this
- 21:30came out in August of two thousand and three, and then when did One
- 21:34Tree Hill debut? Oh, I feel it's either We've looked up the States
- 21:40so many times I know which I mean, and it just says the WB
- 21:44two thousand and three to two thousand and six when on the Google. But
- 21:48oh, I'm gonna go into episodes. But it's like it's like one of
- 21:51those things where it's like Chad Michael Murray is clearly like poised to be an
- 21:55up and coming star because you have this movie. Yeah. September September of
- 22:02two thousand and three, so so Freaky Friday came first, and and this
- 22:08is just you know, you can just see, like and he did so
- 22:11many movies, right, He did a Cinderella Story with Hillary duff in two
- 22:17thousand and five, like he was just gonna be that guy. He's gonna
- 22:22be that guy. And then I think The One Tree Hillman ruined it for
- 22:26everybody, like they tried to do Hillary and Sophia's career. A. I
- 22:32think so, I really do, because when you think about like the progression
- 22:36of the One Tree Held cast, it's like, no one's a major Hollywood
- 22:40film star. No Bethany Jes Sorry, Bethany's coming out with an album soon
- 22:48and I can't wait to listen. It's about strawberries or something. Oh that's
- 22:52cute strawberries and the title but versus like, uh, saved by the bells
- 22:59at the top of my again, because again I would listen to the Mark
- 23:00Paul Kostler interview. But like Mario Lopez, he's not a film star,
- 23:06but he's very prominent and in everyone's face. Yeah, he is everywhere.
- 23:11I I did have to like turn away from the movie and like look at
- 23:15my phone or something because I'm like I don't want to watch to have Michael
- 23:18Murray flirt with Jamie Lee Curtis. I don't know why I got prudy dr
- 23:23I was like, and I do think it's because Jamie Lee Curtis at any
- 23:30age can drop her face and make herself look like a teenager in love.
- 23:33And I'm like, it's icky, and I don't want to watch it.
- 23:37Did you watch her in The Bear season two? No? You know I
- 23:41haven't watched The Bear because every time I turn it on The Bear, my
- 23:44ADHD says no. My ADHD is like, we're not paying attention to this.
- 23:48It is the season two is very slow paced. And you told I
- 23:52haven't watched season one, and you told me I have to listen to that
- 23:55show. And what have I been doing? Every time I'm parked him friend?
- 23:57The TV i'm playing started val That's all I'm doing. All. I
- 24:03loved it. I loved it so hard. I just wanted to put a
- 24:11look it's me. I was like, why did my comment get highlighted?
- 24:15Everyone? That's an example of how you can comment on the Live Jewels will
- 24:18probably log off at some point and comment on that. Maybe it'll be The
- 24:22Fearless Heart, but should you stumble upon our show on the good old YouTube
- 24:26and give us a YouTube comment, Give us a YouTube comment, tell us
- 24:30why you love Freaky Friday. So let's talk about this concept of a reboot,
- 24:36Like, do you think that Disney would attempt a third version at it?
- 24:41Yeah, here's another thing that I think we're slowly distancing ourselves from.
- 24:48And there's not actually that clear cut line in between a middle aged mother and
- 24:55her hormone rampant teenager. I feel like in a lot of film and TV,
- 25:03we're not getting that there's just a fifteen year old in my house shrieking
- 25:08at me all the time. And to be fair, that was not my
- 25:12teenage experience. My mom and I would have like one blow up a month.
- 25:17I would lock myself in my room and then I told you, she'd
- 25:19just scratch on my door to be like, what if we ate Ben and
- 25:23Jerry's and watched Lost? By the way, her Lost was a toxic r
- 25:29Yeah. You know what's interesting though, is, similarly to you, I
- 25:33also didn't have like a shrieking relationship with my mom. We would have one
- 25:37blow up and then go for froyo or watch a movie. But what's interesting
- 25:44to me about the Lindsay Lohan character in this movie is how she is so
- 25:48alternative but cak rock. She's so punk rock, but yet they there is
- 25:55something about her that really isn't punk rock. Well, it's very much her.
- 26:00Well it's a Disney punk rock, so it's camp rock punk rock,
- 26:03right, So I feel like Demi Levado wears the same costume. And also
- 26:14I don't think until probably now because I am not a rewatcher, so who
- 26:18knows, when's the last time I watched this film? Was clearly the punk
- 26:22rock stuff is just a coping mechanism for her dad being dead. She's really
- 26:29just mad at her mom because her dad died. That's interesting as a reformed
- 26:34in appearance punk rock roll because I will always love you punk rock. Though
- 26:42there are some bands now that I'm just like, oh my ears are old,
- 26:45I can't but but there are a handful of bands like I'm gonna go
- 26:48see one later this year and I'm really fucking excited that I still will listen
- 26:55to on repeat when I'm in the mood. But like, there is something
- 26:59about the way, and maybe that's it because she's using it as a mechanism,
- 27:04so she's gonna just grow out of it, as opposed to those of
- 27:08us who I don't live a punk rock lifestyle anymore because I really like showering
- 27:12and having You know, what are you trying to make punk rock people feel
- 27:17like today when you're like, I really like showering. We're not even allowed
- 27:22to call out nerds anymore at gen Con for not showering, and they camp
- 27:26in lines to buy Disney carts. Okay, stand corrected. I'm specifically referring
- 27:30to gutter punks. I went to a funeral a year ago, and I
- 27:33was shocked by how many of my punk rock friends were still in the punk
- 27:37rock way of life. Because then there was like me and the person I
- 27:42went with and one other person, and we looked like professional adults at a
- 27:48funeral. So I just said that on life. Oh what was I gonna
- 27:56say? Though? Oh? No, save me that life. So I
- 28:00think there were a lot of callbacks to I guess her former life. I
- 28:04just thought that her mom was up that pretty girl's ass, because like their
- 28:08moms were friends or something. But then I realized, like, no,
- 28:11Lindsay Lohan and this girl used to be friends. Then her dad died.
- 28:15Teenagers do not have the emotional intelligence to deal with a death. I barely
- 28:22know what to do when my friend's parents die. I just sit here and
- 28:26go do you need to scream? You want to cry? You want to
- 28:30just go get sushi? Death is not something that we handle well over here
- 28:34in the States. And so then I was like, Oh, Lindsay Lohan
- 28:40saw this mean bitch, and she's like, I want to be this mean
- 28:44bitch's friend's friend anymore. And she got hooked up with these two alternative kids
- 28:48and they honestly, the rock band was good. It was impressively good,
- 28:53and at least singer deserves a career. Yeah, where's she at? I
- 28:59don't know. And I meant to look it up to see if she was
- 29:03a ringer, because I remember on Disney used to just like poach music like
- 29:06real talent and then just plug them into their stuff. And I was like,
- 29:10did they do that with this person? Because I feel like that could
- 29:12be true. No, Well, in Disney, also like, did Lindsay
- 29:17Lohan want to be a song or a singer? Who knows? But she
- 29:21has a single at the end of this movie, and she sat in her
- 29:25Confessions of a Drama Queen, didn't she have an album all albums, Like,
- 29:33that's my point. Do they want an album or did Disney just go
- 29:37that part of it? It's Disney boot Camp. You will be good at
- 29:41everything. Yeah, Yeah, we're gonna have to stunt cast you with Cinderella
- 29:45when we revised Cinderella on Broadway for the eightieth time. Yeah. Yeah,
- 29:55it's maybe that's why she doesn't feel like true to the punk rock experience and
- 30:00way because she like because of her former life. Because back to your point
- 30:04of the shrieking shrieking, none of us did that. In my group was
- 30:12you know, a pretty healthy mix of boys and girls, and none of
- 30:17us girls shrieked at our moms. Like, we're not wu girls, We're
- 30:19not shriekers. You know, we get excited and it's very contained. Yeah,
- 30:26hit us up in the comments if you shrieked at your mom a lot,
- 30:29like and every day, no one understands me. I hit my mom.
- 30:33She tried to get me to eat frosted flakes. I want lucky charms.
- 30:37Kind of bitchy teenage way, Where are all these bitchy teenagers? I
- 30:42would like to know. I was like hanging out with them. That sounds
- 30:45stressful. Yeah, same. And I think that's why I liked like Peyton
- 30:49and why I was so upset with the way that they sort of changed her
- 30:53in season four, because in seasons one, two, and three, it
- 30:56felt very much like, Yeah, this is the girl I'm running into it.
- 31:00The scene that I'm gonna get that, I'm gonna that, I like,
- 31:03you know that we're gonna vibe and we're gonna become friends and we're gonna
- 31:06exchange records and we're gonna talk about music, and we're gonna have our moody
- 31:11moody moody moody moody, you know, kind of in a subdued, quiet
- 31:15way, and then it's gonna come out through our art as opposed to yelling
- 31:19at my mom. Now, I would modernize this movie and like kind of
- 31:23combine Freaky Friday with a little bit of The Banner Sisters, where it's like
- 31:30Lindsay Lohan is like kind of a punk rock chick and she thinks that her
- 31:34mom's just like a stuck up prick, and then she starts to uncover because
- 31:38they do the switcheroo all of the talents her mom set aside in order to
- 31:45be a single mom. Yeah, because honestly, I think the movie does
- 31:49fall short on actually making it. So they switch back because now they have
- 31:55common ground, like Jamie Lee Curtis plays guitar and Lindsay Lohan is like,
- 32:02sure, marry my mom, and then they switch back. But I really
- 32:07think that the story could have done so much more in the realm of actually
- 32:10learning about one another instead of leaning into these like really comedic slapstick like well,
- 32:19I'm I have to play therapist on Good Morning America now, and I
- 32:23am going to take this high school test and really struggle at it and all
- 32:29of that stuff. Yeah, it's almost like if you take Freaky Friday,
- 32:34Yes, make it a little give it a little grit, but then also
- 32:37make it a mini series so we can do some serious character development. Yeah,
- 32:43like like a limited like a yeah, a limited series, and it
- 32:45doesn't need a second season. That doesn't need to happen. It's just a
- 32:50quick However, many episodes take out the ancient Chinese magic. Yeah, Chris
- 32:58and I talked about how like that just felt a little icky because it's like,
- 33:02what because especially in the original, that's not part of the original at
- 33:07all. No, isn't it like a thunderstorm or something, or do they
- 33:10just wake up. They hated each other so much they switched bodies. They
- 33:14thought about it at the same time, and like some magic happened and they
- 33:20and then it's and then it was they woke up the next day. So
- 33:22I tell you about the Sunnians. In the eighties, they were wild about
- 33:25body swap movies. Yeah, they loved body swap movies. Do you remember
- 33:30that really creepy movie where Robert Downey Junior is dead but he swaps into his
- 33:36daughter's boyfriend's body and then what they are you talking about? It's a movie.
- 33:45It's a movie. It has a very young Robert Downey Junior in it,
- 33:50and it was in the eight in the eighties. Yeah, the dad
- 33:52dies, the dad dies, and Robert Downey Junior is so young he can
- 33:57play like a college teen and and the day Johnny be good. Maybe no,
- 34:07And the day because I've seen Johnny all the fucked up movies, all
- 34:12the movies were grown up, is kind of fucking a teenager. But it's
- 34:15fine because it's the ghost of her dead husband. That was a movie on
- 34:19TV and I watched it. Yeah, yeah, I'm sorry, I'm looking
- 34:22at his cattle at the his IMDb now, because I'm like, I need
- 34:27to know this is so weird. Maybe we need to like we can do
- 34:32still comfy, but like once a month, we should be like movies that
- 34:35we didn't really think existed, but and we thought we made up movies that
- 34:40were confident are real. But movies that people tell me are fake. But
- 34:45I know I've seen them, like the Polar Bear Kane. Oh my gosh,
- 34:51no one's seen the Polar Bear Kinge. Just me. Yeah, I
- 34:54don't know what you're talking about. Just me, but yeah, just like
- 35:00I I don't know if it was because I was distracted because I was accomplishing
- 35:07a lot today or whatever, but I had a hard time leaning into the
- 35:12humor of it. Maybe it was my summertime sadness. Yeah, I like,
- 35:16I just like, I don't know, if I just needed a little
- 35:22bit more of them actually, like discovering things about one another to where I
- 35:29was having to pay attention because as we know, I can like take or
- 35:34leave some things and then I've stopped paying attention because I'm like, oh,
- 35:37this is an easy joke. I've stopped paying attention. Sure, but that's
- 35:43Disney, I know, It's Disney No. And as I turned on the
- 35:47movie, I realized that I was more of a Amanda Bynes teen movie watcher
- 35:52and not so much of a Lindsay Lohan. Okay, I do that.
- 35:59I do under stand because I if you wanted to cover every single movie that
- 36:02Amanda Bynes did, I'm in okay. I've seen them all one hundred thousand
- 36:07times. Amanda vines and What a Girl Wants is probably my favorite one,
- 36:12one of what one of What Girl ones is absolutely the best one. What
- 36:15would be the other best one? She's the man, He's the man.
- 36:20Is fun. I don't know if it holds up, but she's the man.
- 36:24There there was let's see Sydney White White, I don't know. I
- 36:32don't know about Sidney White. I also was Amanda Bynes in the What I
- 36:37Like About You Show with Jenny Garth. Yes, I loved that show.
- 36:40That was such a good fucking show. You know, What a Girl Wants
- 36:44came out in two thousand and three as well. I love the Amanda Show.
- 36:52The Amanda Show is good. I what movie Tod Robert Downey Junior star
- 36:58and where he body Swaps? That's like that literally could be an Iron Man
- 37:01movie, you had to put and then he fucks his life in a teenager's
- 37:07body. That's what you have to put so people understand body swap in iron
- 37:15Man. That could be any of the Avengers movies. Those Avenger movies get
- 37:19wild. Well, I don't I don't know. I just feel like YouTube
- 37:25punishes you for cussing and stuff problem And I actually think I have it set
- 37:30up on my channel that like extreme cussing is blocked. Oh remember correctly?
- 37:37Well, I think what does Critical Role try to tell me every Thursday when
- 37:39one of them cusses during the ads? I think you have to get through
- 37:43the first minute or like the first three minutes, like there's a timeline to
- 37:47where they will flag you anymore. Got it? Okay, good to know
- 37:52you could weigh in. Yeah, we're desperate to know. So you're thirty
- 37:58six minutes into this live broadcast. I do kind of want to go back
- 38:04to what you were talking about though, about the depths or the lack of
- 38:08the depth of the relationship building and understanding. Yeah, because how how I
- 38:16don't have a daughter. I was a daughter, I am a daughter.
- 38:21I am a daughter. I am a daughter. Yeah, and I always
- 38:27wonder because it was for me, it was really easy to build a relationship
- 38:30with my son, and it's been really easy to maintain that relationship with my
- 38:36son. We did not go through if he had maybe two months out of
- 38:40his entire existence where it was like that stereotypical you know what you're talking about,
- 38:46mom's door slam, I hate you kind of shit. But it didn't
- 38:50last long. And I know that some people experience that regularly with their children,
- 38:58and I don't know why. Well, And as you know, I
- 39:02am child fleurious, but I'm not talking about him on the life. I'm
- 39:07child free. But I was a daughter and I am a daughter. I
- 39:12think my mom was the blocker of all that bullshit, Like I think my
- 39:15other parental unit would try to be wild and be like, you're curfew seven
- 39:21point thirty, I can't believe you gave her the keys to the car all
- 39:24of that, and my mom would just be like, calm down, yeah,
- 39:28Because my mom was a hot girl. She loved to do hot girl
- 39:30shit, so she all she wanted in life was for me to be a
- 39:34fellow hot girl. And I was hideous in high school and therefore she was
- 39:38just like if someone invited namily out. You just let her fucking go.
- 39:43Just let her go. He would just have to let her go. Let
- 39:47her have friends. My god, we didn't think she could do it,
- 39:51but she did. Oh, now I have all the rare is making friends.
- 39:55Yeah, but I am very fascinated because I mean, maybe my friends
- 40:00were yelling at their moms when I wasn't there, but like literally, like
- 40:07I knew every one of my friend's moms, and we never shrieked at them.
- 40:10We would crank at them. Yeah, it's just drink them. Like
- 40:16one time, go ahead, sorry, one time, my friend's mom she
- 40:22bought a fur coat, because every once in a while, you just need
- 40:25to treat yourself. We lived in northwest Indiana. We were like, where
- 40:29are you wearing the fur coat? Too? Where are you going the jewel,
- 40:35like the grocery store where the decadence And she would she would leave and
- 40:38she'd look us both in the eye and she'd be like, you two,
- 40:44do not fuck with my fur. And now I can't hear brass monkey,
- 40:49that funky monkey without picturing my best friend and I in her mother's furs,
- 40:55damn, saying to brass. And she came home and she found us like
- 41:01that, and she cussed us and we left. She still took us to
- 41:06Wicked later that year. So I don't know, like every day is a
- 41:09winding road with your mom's Yeah, And it's almost like, and we've had
- 41:15this conversation before in the past and other arenas. It's almost like moms sometimes
- 41:19forget that their children are their own person and so like sometimes the way one
- 41:25parents it's based in the expectation that they will turn out the way that you
- 41:30tell them to turn out, rather than you listening to what your children are
- 41:34telling you about them themselves. And this is I feel like a situation whee
- 41:40where Jamielee Curtis's character is like, this is the way you're supposed to be,
- 41:44why are you not this way? And then Lindsay Lowens is like,
- 41:47I'm so mad that you don't see me for me, which is every teen
- 41:52hangsty setup. But like to your point, it's a very Disney wrap up
- 41:59for them to come to understanding. Like like, so, so Lindsay Lohan
- 42:02plays the guitar off stage, and then now Jamie Lee Curtis understands how talented
- 42:07she is. When the girl has been practicing in the base in the garage
- 42:10for how many months? Yeah, and she could clearly hear it. And
- 42:16and also like, I'm not saying that my mom and dad were the most
- 42:22emotionally intelligent people. God knows, I'm never gonna make that assumption, but
- 42:27like should I have found myself shrieking because I used to be an unmedicated person
- 42:34in a home like my my mom and my aunt, my favorite aunt,
- 42:38they're very much people like why aren't you more chill? Like why can't you
- 42:44just chill out? Which again I love telling people who are in the middle
- 42:46of an episode, like have you ever tried breathing? Like just calm down?
- 42:51But like so again. Also, my mom was pretty successful at actually
- 42:55making me involved in her interests. We were both big readers. Yeah,
- 43:00and them loves color theory, we love to decorate, We love to craft.
- 43:06My dad loves dungeons and dragons. Like, my parents did a pretty
- 43:08good job just assimilating me into their interests. You know what, mine too,
- 43:13because both of my parents big time readers. My mom was very artsy
- 43:19and ye, music my dad love I mean, they both love movies,
- 43:22but family Film Night is one hundred percent from my dad. Yeah, music
- 43:27is one hundred percent like pop music. Pop culture music is one hundred percent
- 43:30for my dad. So what we're saying all music is one hundred percent for
- 43:34my mom. So what we're saying is tests. And the movie should have
- 43:37been more interesting, she should have had more hobbies, which I think is
- 43:43a bigger like, it's a bigger message because like Tess woke up one day
- 43:47a widow and she had these two kids, one of which was shrieking all
- 43:52the time, and she had to hold down a job, she had to
- 43:54write a book, she had to find some man. I also think it
- 43:59is a test to on, you know, building a relationship with your children
- 44:04for you, because it was clear that the primary relationship was daddy daughter.
- 44:10Yes, and I don't think that's healthy either, because what happens when one
- 44:15of you dies? Well, yeah, everyone should like their kids. You
- 44:20Friday, right, creaky Friday. Oh you've done dead body swap in.
- 44:27Everyone should like their kids. Everyone should like disappointed when people don't like their
- 44:31kids in the comments everyone everyone should everyone please like your children. Everyone on
- 44:39tikok like your kids. Like your kids. Even when you don't like your
- 44:46kids, find one reason to tell them you like them today, even if
- 44:52you don't even if you're looking at them, and you're like, I fucking
- 44:57would love to squish this time head in, but by bedtime feel like I
- 45:05really like that we both like the ocean, all right? I did,
- 45:07Yeah, because it doesn't It never made any sense to me when people are
- 45:10just so flabbergasted by their children. I'm like, but they lived in your
- 45:14house for twenty years. People with interests, like how do you not know
- 45:22your like what it's like how my dad just throws his hands up in the
- 45:27air every time I talk about my show or like this show, or like
- 45:31he watched me at gen Con Network with a bunch of people and like make
- 45:35friends with people. And he's like, I just don't even know what you
- 45:37do with your day all day And I'm like, I watch Disney Plus,
- 45:40I watch Freaky Friday, and I take notes on my phone. That's what
- 45:45I do with my day. Yeah, And I meditate and I think of
- 45:52reasons to be pissed off about men in misogyny. Yeah, and that's what
- 45:58I do with my day, dad, But it is, it's like this
- 46:01weird and I feel like we were fed that narrative a lot about like our
- 46:06parents just don't understand we have hormones. It's still perpetuated too, because when
- 46:10I watch stuff now that's geared towards teens, and my whole hang up in
- 46:15that is no. But we we fixed that. Yeah, we as elder
- 46:21millennials who have children have fixed that. And then I go and spend time
- 46:25with my peers who have children and realize it I fixed it and no one
- 46:30else. Everyone. It's like when it's like when I'm Michael, you can't
- 46:37break. It's inevitable. It's like when I run into a person in my
- 46:42age bracket and they're a conservative, and I'm like, why would you choose
- 46:45that? How did that have everything we've lived through. The ocean is boiling.
- 46:51You just want to be denial about that? Right? The orcos are
- 46:54mad? We're mad. Actually beg to the trench. Over the week I
- 47:00was on Meg's side, I was like, that shark was just underneath a
- 47:05part of the ozone of the ocean that we had not seen, if the
- 47:07false bottom of the ocean, and he didn't want to be here. He
- 47:12didn't want to he was in his own part of the ocean. And we
- 47:15fucked around and we found we found out and that's and and and that's the
- 47:20moral of Jurassic Park. That's the moral of Planet of the Apes. We
- 47:23fucked around and we found out. But conservative, I guess, I guess
- 47:31I don't get it. I also like, as you know, as a
- 47:35person who gets to live on the periphery of people who are parenting but not
- 47:39actually have to actively parent, I'm constantly like, oh, you're really gonna
- 47:45care about that? Okay. I would just let the kid play with the
- 47:49dice until he was ready to move on. You know. It's funny about
- 47:52that when my son got like old enough to like explore on his own bill
- 47:59like like as a neighbor child or whatever, and my parents would just be
- 48:01like whatever about it. And it was just like, you guys, never
- 48:05you would never let us like the freedom this child has is a grandchild.
- 48:08We never ever. And my mom said to me, she goes, well,
- 48:13you get to a point where you realize your kids survived and they probably
- 48:16would have survived had you not been that strict. My parents never knew where
- 48:22I was. I've asked them. I was like, would you like to
- 48:24know the activities that I used to complete in the woods before I had a
- 48:29cell phone? And you did not know that I was in the woods well,
- 48:30and my mom was been, no, don't misunderstand me. There was
- 48:35definitely a lot of like, yeah, we're going to the movie's mom,
- 48:38and it wasn't. That's not where we were. My parents never know where
- 48:42it was. But my son was like eight or nine when she told me
- 48:45that, and that like released me from this idea that I had to hold
- 48:52on to some sort of like perceived parenting style that we all have to do.
- 49:00And it was like, oh, yeah, he's it's gonna be fine.
- 49:01Trust your kid, and I tell him that all the time. I
- 49:05trust you. I do not trust the rest of the world. So like
- 49:08you could do all the things that you need to do to survive and come
- 49:12home safely and all that stuff, the rest of the world doesn't give a
- 49:15shit that somebody's at home caring, like worried about you and caring for you
- 49:19and you know, praying to full moons for you. Like they don't give
- 49:22a shit that I gave up twenty years of my life to make sure that
- 49:24you grew up to be, you know, a happy, healthy adult in
- 49:30college. Like, but you, I trust so like it has nothing And
- 49:34I had to make that very clear to him. It has nothing to do
- 49:37with you. Is everything to do with the fact that I know the world
- 49:39does not give a shit that you are loved. Right, hear that everybody
- 49:45the world does not give a shit that you are loved. The oceans are
- 49:50boiling, the orcas are mad, the otters are stealing surfboards. The end
- 49:58is not is what I'm saying, Like, it's still ninety degrees out,
- 50:02and I would like to know why. The other part of it, too,
- 50:07I know, because the earth is mad. The other part of it
- 50:09too is I always operated in the sense of like, I want you to
- 50:14want to come home to visit me. Yeah, I want you to want
- 50:17to be like, you know what, I haven't seen my mom in a
- 50:21while, Like, let me go visit and I and I think watching Freaky
- 50:28Friday, you're like Jamie Lee. Do you even like your children well?
- 50:31And does she have time you like her children? Do you even like care
- 50:36that your daughter's hurting? You're a therapist, you should care well. And
- 50:39again, I think that blends into the weird realm of gen X boomer mothers
- 50:46who is like I accidentally may have said out loud to my mother that she
- 50:52ruined her own life by having me, and then she had to explain to
- 50:57me that that is not how she felt. Oh that was like, yeah,
- 51:00I just tell people, like, you know, my mom was doing
- 51:02hot girl shit and then she had me too early in her marriage, ruined
- 51:06her life. And my mom's like that No. I was like, oh
- 51:09is that an ah, That's how I perceived everyone felt. So you know,
- 51:15we worked through it. We worked through it like everything you did fine,
- 51:21at least it was out there. But you and I talk a lot
- 51:24about how our mothers didn't actually have the choice to be anything but our mothers.
- 51:30So I grew up on home where my mother was constantly going through a
- 51:34career change to try and find what it is that she actually wanted to do
- 51:37with her life. And I do believe it's because she went to school not
- 51:43actually knowing what she wanted to do with her life, because she was eighteen
- 51:46and she had all of this, like life before that that was filled with
- 51:51trauma and feelings and growing up too soon and all of it. And I
- 51:55get that vibe from Jamie Lee Curtis where it's like, you know, you
- 52:00know, every once in a while, because you know, my Grandpa died
- 52:04young. My grandpa died young, and every once in a while and I'm
- 52:07like, you know, Grandma Peck probably loved Grandpa every moment of every day,
- 52:13except for that one hour of the day maybe as she laid her down
- 52:16to sleep where she went, fuck that fucker for dying on me. Because
- 52:22you never expect to actually be a widow. Divorce maybe, but a widow,
- 52:27huh uh. And it changes the game a little bit too, because
- 52:30at least when you're divorced, you sort of share custody or there's some sort
- 52:34of splitting of the care in theory that's not always true. You can tell
- 52:38someone to be like, you're bestard children today and if you have, you
- 52:44know, custody split fifty to fifty, then you get you get respite,
- 52:47right, someone taps in, someone else taps in, But you're right.
- 52:52When you are a widow, there is no respite. And even in two
- 52:55thousand and three, because if you'll recall, I became a parent following year,
- 53:00even in that era, it still was very hard for women to be
- 53:06successful as single women, as single mothers. Well, and I can't and
- 53:14again I've only known well, I've known several widows. But I've only known
- 53:17one widow who then had to raise teenagers and young children after the widow,
- 53:22Wyane, And I can't imagine what it's like to have society tell you all
- 53:31the time that women are dramatic and yvery emotional, and they're crazy, and
- 53:37they should be quiet and they should be pleasant and they should smile more.
- 53:42And then to have the person that you were going to build a life with
- 53:45die and then you have to shut that part of your brain off because your
- 53:51kids are crying about it, right, And then that like that feeling of
- 53:57like moving on and now your kids are crying about that, and there's just
- 54:02like it's so much to hold on to and you're forced to hold on to
- 54:07it because you're the grown up in the room. Yeah, and we're not
- 54:09allowed to have space to do grief or feel our emotions regardless. I'm reading
- 54:17that book When the Women, When Women were Dragons, Yeah, and she
- 54:22literally talks about that how like the first thing her mom ever taught her about
- 54:27being a woman socially. And this is a book that takes place in the
- 54:30fifties, but I'm pretty sure that we're still getting this lesson. And she
- 54:34goes My mother taught me how to make the neutral pleasant face, So even
- 54:38when I was angry, even when I was sad, even when I was
- 54:43enraged, happy, any of it to get through whatever moment I needed to
- 54:47get through, so everyone around me was comfortable and we could all survive it.
- 54:52Yeah, she taught me how to just like soften my face, shot
- 54:58off that part of my brain, do that little half smile, and then
- 55:01be like, can I please leave the room to go scream in my car?
- 55:05Yeah. Yeah, It's almost as if they give us a manual when
- 55:09we turn a certain age. It reminds me a lot of that like meltdown
- 55:14that Drew Barrymore has at the end of writing in Cars with Boys Because I
- 55:17asked her. Kid of hers tries to tell her that she didn't do a
- 55:21good job, and I'm always like, fuck that kid, and I'm screaming
- 55:25with her. I'm like, she should be screaming at you in the street.
- 55:29She wanted to be an author. She wanted to be an award winning
- 55:31author. Okay, she got knocked up by dumb dumb Steve's on. Yeah,
- 55:37we're like a drug problem. He has a drug problem. We're lucky
- 55:40he didn't do it two, three or four times, because I've seen women
- 55:44go through that. Yeah, and then Brittany Murphy died, So leave Drew
- 55:51Barrymore alone. Yeah yeah, yeah, Okay, so that leads us to
- 55:57our final question. Yeah, sure, are you still comfying? I feel
- 56:01like that last Yeah, I feel like that little last tidbit about like the
- 56:07pleasantry of Like sometimes things for women just have to be pleasant and that's all
- 56:12they get to be. That fits Freaky Friday. There wasn't like a lot
- 56:16of conflict. Actually, they were just shrieking at each other, just they
- 56:21were just having a bad day. And then there was also like a bad
- 56:25dirt day they go on down. But there also wasn't like a grand coming
- 56:32together, like they just decided and yes, mom will marry the sporing man
- 56:37like and he doesn't want to be an evil stepfather like I like. Honestly,
- 56:43his arc is probably the most interesting arc of the movie because it's like
- 56:46I've been secretly hoping that Lindsay Lohan would love me, and you're trying to
- 56:52ruin it. I actually really appreciated how into being a stepdad he was in
- 56:58like a very wholesome way. Yeah, because it is really hard to find
- 57:02a partner who is okay with there being a child. Plus for me,
- 57:09it was extra baggage because it's a whole lot of drama on that end on
- 57:15the other side, and many of men have come and have decided and decided
- 57:20that they for whatever reason, didn't want to be a part and didn't want
- 57:23to be, you know, witnessed to all that shit and didn't want to
- 57:28support me through having to deal with all of the shit. So seeing him
- 57:32kind of come in and granted again she is a widow, but seeing him
- 57:37come in and just be like, I will be your support, Like,
- 57:40that's the fucking dream, the fucking dream. So yeah, I'm comfortable with
- 57:45the movie. Maybe take out the ancient Chinese magic with the fortune cookies.
- 57:50Maybe take out Chad michael Berry wanting to make kiss. He kiss was Jamie
- 57:54Lee Curtis, but like, stood on you, Jamie, you got to
- 57:58kiss, You got to kiss. So the hottest heart throb on the WB
- 58:01that year. Yeah, yeah, eight out of ten. I'm so comfy
- 58:09with it as well, because I feel like I do appreciate that it is
- 58:16a mother daughter story versus some sort of like unhealthy rom com for teens.
- 58:27Yeah, and we know I love rom coms, but like it could have
- 58:32turned it could have turned into it could have been the wrong kind of story.
- 58:37And I Robert down and junior story that I'm telling you about is that
- 58:43Robert, like Jamie Lee Curtis, could have had sex with Chad michael Berry
- 58:46and it would be like It's fine, though, because it's anna like so
- 58:52awkward. It's so awkward. It makes me so uncomfortable, like just to
- 59:02think about how I would have to be, like if I were the mom
- 59:07in Freaky Friday. Because you know this, I do this regularly. I'll
- 59:09watch a movie and I'm like, God, that that boy is fine,
- 59:14and then I'll look him up and I'll be like, he was born in
- 59:15nineteen ninety five. I'm like, fuck me, I can't believe I just
- 59:20said that. It's like or there was more reason, though, I know
- 59:24there was one recently that I looked up and he was born in like two
- 59:27thousand and one, and I was like, I you can't. You can't
- 59:31have hots the hots for the boys that have the twenty in front of their
- 59:36year. I was like, this is so uncomfortable. I don't think that
- 59:40you should be an actor because and again it plays into the whole like it's
- 59:46not his fault that he's cute, and I find him cute. You should
- 59:50quit his job because you're a horn dog cell can't handle watching him on movies.
- 59:57You're like, quit your job, this is indecent. But it's like
- 1:00:00it's like it's like I forget my age sometimes and then when I look up
- 1:00:05ages and see how close an age they are to my child, it becomes
- 1:00:08this moment of want, want, because I, like I told you the
- 1:00:14other day, I probably could get away with saying I'm ten years younger and
- 1:00:17people would probably believe it. Yeah, we have great skin. Yeah,
- 1:00:23It's it's like when I told you the story last year when I moved my
- 1:00:28child into school, they asked which one of us was moving in. I
- 1:00:34swear, if I got more sleep, I would look so youthful at my
- 1:00:37skin has held up. Thank you Croatia. Same yes, same, thank
- 1:00:43you Italia. Jesus, like I've got the I've got the Mediterranean slash melanin
- 1:00:52going on here, And like even when I look at my parents now,
- 1:00:54it's like I forget how old they are because their skin looks so amazing,
- 1:01:00I'm telling you. I had a great aunt. She just died on the
- 1:01:04eve of ninety and I was like, what do you mean? Yeah,
- 1:01:07there's fool sixty five taps. I have an uncle turning eighty next year,
- 1:01:13and I forget all the time because he doesn't look it right, and I
- 1:01:16just like to live in delusion. No one's told me the actual number.
- 1:01:21Yeah, all right, friend, tell everybody what you are up to this
- 1:01:24week with your shit with my sheet. My name is dan Lee Katona.
- 1:01:30I'm the host of To All the Men I've tolerated before. Next week,
- 1:01:35we will also be on YouTube, but on my YouTube channel doing Jurassic Park
- 1:01:39or sleep List in Seattle. I've said both of the titles so often I've
- 1:01:43forgotten which one it is. I think we need to switch it because Jurassic
- 1:01:46Park, because I remembered when we were chatting why we doubled that, because
- 1:01:51you had more shows on your channel than I did on mine this last time.
- 1:01:54There we go, There we go, There we go. We're going
- 1:01:57to do Jurassic Park. Everyone get hot and ready for Jeff Goldbloom. Everyone'll
- 1:02:02get hot and ready for Jeff Goldbloom, Jeff Goldie. I think Jewels,
- 1:02:08I think you're the guest of my show this week. I believe I saw
- 1:02:13the Patreon uh episode dropping. God still Comfy is still comfy Tuesday because Jewels
- 1:02:20gets the episode early, and then she reminds me which one's coming on Thursday,
- 1:02:23because I'm a member of her Patreon and you should be too. So
- 1:02:28Thursday, Jules and I will be talking about how women sometimes uphold misogyny and
- 1:02:34how it fucking lets us down. And we're gonna be talking about women in
- 1:02:37our lives, our mothers. Britney, not Brittany. Britney Spears did nothing
- 1:02:43wrong, nothing wrong. Brittany Spears did nothing wrong. We to Taylor Swift,
- 1:02:52a little bit of Beyonce. For whatever reason, I was mad at
- 1:02:54Queen Bay that day. I don't remember we were. It's because I don't
- 1:03:00like jay Z. That's what I have to continue to look at jay Z.
- 1:03:07So Jules tell everyone. So that's me find me men. I've tolerated
- 1:03:10pod on Instagram. I've started a blog, a out ya and newsletter shit
- 1:03:22I Friends. Hi, I'm Julia Washington. Your host of pop culture makes
- 1:03:25me jealous. Where we analyze pop culture through the lens of race or gender
- 1:03:28and sometimes both. This week on the show, we are doing our summer
- 1:03:31blockbuster movie wrap up with Movies with Mister Mario. We get into the top
- 1:03:37ten highest grossing films domestically. We talk about our summer favorites, we talk
- 1:03:44about what were the biggest surprises, and we talk about who we think has
- 1:03:49awards opportunities. Assuming the strike is over by then and we have it feels
- 1:03:57like the strike has been going on for Execute desert Able. We really need
- 1:04:01the executives to get off their million dollars of shit and share some of that
- 1:04:05profitability with the true people who are doing the actual work. Everyone, everyone
- 1:04:13cuss out an executive today. That is your homework everyone. I don't care
- 1:04:16if they're a movie executive. Just find an executive and cuss them out.
- 1:04:23And then go see Bottoms because that is the summer. So upset and they
- 1:04:28won't and they won't wide release it unless the people who are in the towns
- 1:04:33that they released it go and see it. So everyone rushed to your nearest
- 1:04:38theater that's playing Bottoms and go see it. Yes, please, because I
- 1:04:42need to see it. Oh, Mario showed up and I didn't even say
- 1:04:45hi, Mario. We're glad you're here. He is our guest this week.
- 1:04:48Like I said, you can find me on Instagram and TikTok at the
- 1:04:54Julia Washington. Please subscribe to the YouTube channel so you never miss a live
- 1:04:58show. Follow both of us on Instagram so you can always see the shenanigans
- 1:05:02we're up to. Also, if you join our patreons, you get some
- 1:05:09really cool perks, but you have to follow us on Instagram to go to
- 1:05:13the patreon to learn of those perks, because there's too many to list here.
- 1:05:17We are offering so many amazing perks that we can't see see see,
- 1:05:25and Mario and I are not that far in distance, so this makes me
- 1:05:28very upset. I can't help it. The date and be cooler than California,
- 1:05:32truly, So I'm like, come on, it looks so good.
- 1:05:35It's a plot twist none of us saw coming, and they had the audacity
- 1:05:41to show it as a trailer in like several movies I saw this summer.
- 1:05:45It's the funniest movie I've ever seen. Honestly, I'm just so jealous.
- 1:05:49I really want to see it. Support your local lesbians and go see Bottoms.
- 1:05:57I mean, that's an executive and then support your local Let's be in
- 1:06:01Oh, Mario says, supposedly releasing wide in two weeks, and we're gonna
- 1:06:06keep our fingers crossed that that is true so we can cover it on pop
- 1:06:10culture. Makes me jealous inappropriate time. Friends, we are so glad to
- 1:06:17be back from our summer hiatus. We've had such a fun summer and we
- 1:06:23have done so many things this summer that you all should be jealous about.
- 1:06:29And if you followed us on in the internet grams, you would know.
- 1:06:39Can you tell us this is our first show back after like three months?
- 1:06:43Well, I had to stare at Mario's comment for like a good thirty seconds
- 1:06:45before I was like, Ah, I'm just here so I don't get fined.
- 1:06:48He was amazing. Put him in all the movies like we did What's
- 1:06:51that Wrestler? John Sena? Him and John sena need to be in a
- 1:06:56movie together where they don't belong, but they do. John Cena is in
- 1:07:00a new movie. I saw a trailer four when I went and saw Grand
- 1:07:03Turismo, and I don't know how I feel about it. I was like,
- 1:07:12I love John Cena. Everyone cuss out an executive, this is your
- 1:07:16homework for the sports or local lesbians, and tell John Cena you love them.
- 1:07:23And stay cozy, stay companie until next time. Friends,
