- 0:00Speaker 1: Hello, my name's Santasha Nabananga Bamblet. I'm a proud yr
- 0:04Speaker 1: the Order KERNI Whoalbury and a waddery woman. And before
- 0:08Speaker 1: we get started on She's on the Money podcast, I
- 0:11Speaker 1: would like to acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land
- 0:14Speaker 1: of which this podcast is recorded on a wondery country,
- 0:18Speaker 1: acknowledging the elders, the ancestors and the next generation coming
- 0:22Speaker 1: through as this podcast is about connecting, empowering, knowledge sharing
- 0:27Speaker 1: and the storytelling of you to make a difference for
- 0:30Speaker 1: today and lasting impact for tomorrow.
- 0:33Speaker 2: Let's get into it.
- 0:34Speaker 3: She's on the Money. She's on the Money.
- 0:57Speaker 2: Hello, and welcome to She's on the Money, the podcast
- 1:00Speaker 2: for millennials who want financial freedom. My friends, Today is Friday,
- 1:04Speaker 2: which means I'm back the Bjay episode. Is that what
- 1:08Speaker 2: we're calling it?
- 1:09Speaker 4: B and there's an and there.
- 1:12Speaker 2: I've never had more fun listening to a Friday Drinks episode.
- 1:15Speaker 2: Like arguably, I did not want to come back. I
- 1:18Speaker 2: laughed the whole way through. I can't work out if
- 1:20Speaker 2: it's because I'm biased, because they really like you guys,
- 1:23Speaker 2: or you're actually funny. I'll leave that up to our community.
- 1:27Speaker 2: To decide. I also had a very wholesome message from
- 1:30Speaker 2: somebody on the She's on the money account this week
- 1:32Speaker 2: and they said, oh my gosh, like hahaha, listened to
- 1:35Speaker 2: the B and Jay episode. She thought that you guys
- 1:39Speaker 2: were talking about Ben and Jerry's so funny. I tackled
- 1:44Speaker 2: and then said, Jessica, reach out to them. They have
- 1:45Speaker 2: really good ice cream.
- 1:46Speaker 4: Yeah, Ben and Jerry's. If you want to work with us, slamkout.
- 1:48Speaker 2: Yeah, we'll be here. Obviously. That's very exciting. We are
- 1:52Speaker 2: back for another week of celebrating you guys. You are
- 1:55Speaker 2: my favorite people in the entire world. And today we're
- 1:58Speaker 2: going to be sharing or Jessic Richi is gone to
- 2:00Speaker 2: be sharing our favorite money wins. Beck has a tasty
- 2:03Speaker 2: broke tip, and we're going to be helping to answer
- 2:06Speaker 2: juicy money dilemma, which this week is all about explaining
- 2:09Speaker 2: investment terms, one of my favorite sexy topics, and we're
- 2:13Speaker 2: going to be unpacking something that you slid into our
- 2:15Speaker 2: DMS about and we're going to talk about whether or
- 2:18Speaker 2: not you should disclose your only fans side hustle to
- 2:22Speaker 2: your boss. Ah. So let's dive straight into the week
- 2:26Speaker 2: that has been Miss Beck sayed, how has your week been?
- 2:31Speaker 5: Where week has been?
- 2:32Speaker 2: Lovely?
- 2:33Speaker 5: Jessica Riici and maybe even you have maybe heard about
- 2:36Speaker 5: the current affair saga, Yeah.
- 2:38Speaker 2: You're like famous now well and I got to see
- 2:40Speaker 2: nature after. Can I tell people that I know you? You
- 2:42Speaker 2: absolutely can, but I just want you to know that. Unfortunately,
- 2:45Speaker 2: but also fortunately, our landlord decided not to raise our rent,
- 2:49Speaker 2: so we had to pull.
- 2:52Speaker 4: We had to pull the pull our part of the
- 2:54Speaker 4: st putting the rent up at all?
- 2:56Speaker 2: Not at all?
- 2:57Speaker 4: That is fantas on.
- 2:59Speaker 2: Did you just pull a swifty blackmail and safe you
- 3:03Speaker 2: like we could technically make this issue go away if
- 3:05Speaker 2: you didn't put our that what's going on? Literally we
- 3:09Speaker 2: didn't even have to do that.
- 3:10Speaker 5: We just sent a very very nice email saying, we
- 3:12Speaker 5: love our relationship with you guys, like I think that
- 3:15Speaker 5: we're really respecting the property. We would love to maintain this,
- 3:18Speaker 5: but wondering if you would maybe think about increasing it
- 3:21Speaker 5: a little bit less or giving us a bit more
- 3:23Speaker 5: time to find alternative accommodation. And they came back and said,
- 3:27Speaker 5: what a lovely email. We don't want to increase it
- 3:29Speaker 5: at all. In order to run to a current of
- 3:31Speaker 5: fan be like, hey, let's not do this, let's not
- 3:34Speaker 5: do this.
- 3:36Speaker 2: I don't want to do this anymore.
- 3:37Speaker 5: And so we we will no longer be famous, rich
- 3:39Speaker 5: and famous.
- 3:40Speaker 4: Oh that's an awesome outcome, possible.
- 3:44Speaker 2: Totally almost like a fake outcome, Jess, Like imagine being like,
- 3:48Speaker 2: we sent a really nice email and they just decided
- 3:50Speaker 2: not to put our end time Like that never happened.
- 3:53Speaker 4: Closed my mind that they didn't like or meet you
- 3:58Speaker 4: in the middle. Yes, they've got an increase, fair enough,
- 4:00Speaker 4: like everyone's increasing whatever. But I'm just shocked that they
- 4:03Speaker 4: went from we're increasing it by a ridiculous amount to
- 4:08Speaker 4: I don't worry about it, like we just know.
- 4:10Speaker 5: They weren't even like, oh, well well okay, well we'll
- 4:12Speaker 5: increase it a little bit. They were just like, no,
- 4:14Speaker 5: we're not doing any We didn't even ask for that.
- 4:16Speaker 5: But anyway, we're very happy.
- 4:17Speaker 2: We'll take it. We'll take it, and we'll run and
- 4:19Speaker 2: we will tell a current affair. Sorry not sorry, thank
- 4:22Speaker 2: you for your time, but we can't play anything. We
- 4:25Speaker 2: can't we can't be friends anymore. Great outcome, great week.
- 4:28Speaker 2: I don't have a famous friend anymore, Jess, What did
- 4:30Speaker 2: you get up to this week.
- 4:31Speaker 4: Nothing crazy four day work week. We love that. It's
- 4:35Speaker 4: always so nice having that little extra day. I went
- 4:37Speaker 4: away last weekend and I'm going away this weekend.
- 4:40Speaker 2: So fancy. I don't just love packing five days worth
- 4:43Speaker 2: of work into four.
- 4:45Speaker 4: Yeah, there is like that outcome, I suppose, especially because
- 4:47Speaker 4: not everybody had the public holiday on the Monday, which
- 4:50Speaker 4: I didn't realize until someone pointed that out and I
- 4:52Speaker 4: was like, oh, like that makes it harder because some
- 4:54Speaker 4: people are working and some people But it's just nice.
- 4:58Speaker 4: You feel refreshed after a short week, don't you.
- 5:00Speaker 2: Totally you absolutely do. I did exactly the same thing.
- 5:02Speaker 2: I'm not going away this weekend, but my best friend
- 5:04Speaker 2: Rose was over from London, and you best believe we
- 5:08Speaker 2: made it an entire foody weekend. Like basically all we
- 5:11Speaker 2: did was eat, which was a ten out of ten.
- 5:13Speaker 2: Not so much for our banks because food turns out
- 5:17Speaker 2: good food is expensive, yes, but that that's okay. That
- 5:20Speaker 2: was like a life win money loss, but I love it. Jess.
- 5:24Speaker 2: Let's jump into the money wins of the week, though.
- 5:26Speaker 2: I want to know what were your favorites, because I
- 5:28Speaker 2: feel like I snooped through them a fair bit this week,
- 5:30Speaker 2: and there was some really good ones. They sure were.
- 5:33Speaker 4: My first money win this week comes from Teagan, who said,
- 5:36Speaker 4: I canceled my gym membership that I hardly used and
- 5:39Speaker 4: it was sixteen dollars a week. Now I'm only paying
- 5:41Speaker 4: twelve dollars a month for an at home program instead.
- 5:44Speaker 4: Genius twelve dollars a month. That's a good money for
- 5:47Speaker 4: good Also so good? Do you know what I don't
- 5:49Speaker 4: like when they don't share what program that is?
- 5:51Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 5:51Speaker 2: If you're saying it's good and it's only twelve bucks,
- 5:54Speaker 2: drop the workout.
- 5:55Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm curious to know. My next money wind comes
- 5:58Speaker 4: from Zooey, who said money win recognizing my tendency to
- 6:01Speaker 4: spend for instant gratification through finding this podcast and community.
- 6:05Speaker 4: As soon as I recognize that saying hey, that's what
- 6:08Speaker 4: I do, it's been so much easier to identify detrimental spending.
- 6:11Speaker 4: And I have had my first week remaining in budget.
- 6:14Speaker 4: Oh my gosh, thanks Victoria for what you do. Love
- 6:16Speaker 4: you in the community.
- 6:17Speaker 2: How you right? That's so nice? How good is that that?
- 6:20Speaker 2: I don't know? I just I get so excited about
- 6:22Speaker 2: this concept that when people are introduced to us and
- 6:26Speaker 2: our community and what we're up to. They don't feel
- 6:29Speaker 2: like it's restrictive. They feel like it's liberating. And that
- 6:31Speaker 2: message just showed me that you guys do it every
- 6:35Speaker 2: week for me. But I just feel like it shows
- 6:37Speaker 2: me that money doesn't have to be about restriction. It
- 6:39Speaker 2: can just be about really identifying what your values are
- 6:43Speaker 2: and what your behaviors are and you know where a
- 6:45Speaker 2: min to work for you. Because someone could have listened
- 6:47Speaker 2: to that and been like, Bavi, that's my favorite part
- 6:49Speaker 2: of my life and I totally get that, and you
- 6:51Speaker 2: do you it's all about education. But I just I'm
- 6:53Speaker 2: obsessed with the fact that Jess the stuff that we
- 6:56Speaker 2: talk about it actually works.
- 6:58Speaker 4: Slight impacts people.
- 6:59Speaker 2: It blows my mind.
- 7:01Speaker 4: Speaking of recruiting, the next money when comes from Grace,
- 7:04Speaker 4: who said I sat down with my boyfriend and wrote
- 7:07Speaker 4: out a financial plan to pay off his debts within
- 7:09Speaker 4: the next two to three years. So proud to see
- 7:12Speaker 4: him feeling confident and making more fiscally conscious decisions as
- 7:15Speaker 4: we work together to say for our first home. I
- 7:17Speaker 4: love how little people are going out and spreading the
- 7:20Speaker 4: good word. If she's on the money on street.
- 7:21Speaker 2: Corners, I am obsessed, but I'm not gonna lie. I
- 7:25Speaker 2: was being a little bit self centered when you started that.
- 7:27Speaker 2: You were like, oh, talking about recruitment, and I thought
- 7:30Speaker 2: you were going to say, Zella Money is looking for
- 7:32Speaker 2: a mortgage broken. Thought that would be good. It's also true,
- 7:35Speaker 2: so if you're a mortgage broken and want to work
- 7:37Speaker 2: with me, slide into our DMS, or better yet, apply
- 7:41Speaker 2: the job at is on LinkedIn. And also, Jess, we're
- 7:44Speaker 2: hiring for a copywriter and sure aunt of money, so
- 7:47Speaker 2: that is also on LinkedIn. Go have a look.
- 7:49Speaker 4: Yeah, don't side of my dams go to LinkedIn.
- 7:51Speaker 2: Yeah, don't do that to Jess because she'll just send
- 7:53Speaker 2: you to LinkedIn and it would just be a little
- 7:55Speaker 2: loopedy loop think. Yeah, so it was bad advice from me,
- 7:58Speaker 2: but it is good advice to come work with.
- 8:00Speaker 4: Us one hundred percent. We like to think we're fun.
- 8:01Speaker 2: More money wins please though.
- 8:03Speaker 4: Next one comes from Julie, who said on Saturday, I
- 8:05Speaker 4: bought a handmade upholstered footstore of Facebook marketplace for my
- 8:09Speaker 4: mummy and the lady and I got talking about our hobbies.
- 8:11Speaker 4: We shared our Facebook pages with each other and our ideas.
- 8:14Speaker 4: She's also like me very creative. That night she messaged
- 8:18Speaker 4: me wanting to buy a painting and she picked it
- 8:20Speaker 4: up today.
- 8:20Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, I know.
- 8:25Speaker 4: I'm just really feeling like the little community vibes. I think.
- 8:29Speaker 4: Not on theme our last one this week, but on
- 8:32Speaker 4: brand comes from Holly, who says mac has a small
- 8:34Speaker 4: cheeseburger meal with a Shaky's nine dollars if you order
- 8:37Speaker 4: on the app, A happy meal is only four ninety
- 8:39Speaker 4: five and you can upgrade the drink to shape for free.
- 8:41Speaker 2: Yeah god, yeah, do you know who already knew that?
- 8:44Speaker 4: Just go each We love a MacDonald and age I've
- 8:48Speaker 4: got this week.
- 8:49Speaker 2: A happy meal always makes Jessica happy.
- 8:52Speaker 4: Love it. I had one on the way to the studio.
- 8:54Speaker 2: You did, did you get? I didn't? Actually look. You
- 8:57Speaker 2: can ask for no toy so you can be an
- 8:59Speaker 2: out of sorry, like that's not an option. You can
- 9:04Speaker 2: like it.
- 9:04Speaker 4: I'll go get my twin give it to you now.
- 9:06Speaker 2: Thank you, money, win the money? Is that all right? Table?
- 9:12Speaker 1: Beck?
- 9:12Speaker 2: No cheeseburgers in your broke tips this week? I don't think.
- 9:17Speaker 2: But what have you got for us? Okay? Comes to
- 9:19Speaker 2: Beck's broke Tips.
- 9:20Speaker 5: Got something just as exciting?
- 9:22Speaker 2: Do This one comes.
- 9:23Speaker 5: From one and only Victoria device.
- 9:26Speaker 2: Use my broke tips. This is you gaming the system.
- 9:29Speaker 2: When we gave you this segment, we said, Beck, you'll
- 9:31Speaker 2: come up with a broke tip each week. You know,
- 9:34Speaker 2: it was really lazy. This week it's smarter, not harder.
- 9:37Speaker 5: And also time is money, and I feel like I
- 9:39Speaker 5: saved a lot of time and money using your broke tips.
- 9:43Speaker 2: So right is basically what it is.
- 9:45Speaker 5: So Victoria brought in some what I would you know,
- 9:49Speaker 5: consider gormet, muffet, nor met, I believe met. Yeah it's
- 9:53Speaker 5: like saying target, but yes, what it is the fancy
- 9:57Speaker 5: way to say it. But turns out she we spent
- 10:00Speaker 5: less than three dollars making I did. It was the
- 10:02Speaker 5: money in I thought I was pretty good.
- 10:04Speaker 2: The broke tip of this week is it's a recipe.
- 10:07Speaker 2: It's not just a tip.
- 10:09Speaker 5: It's not just a tip. It's a recipe. So if
- 10:11Speaker 5: you want some really cheap, quick and easy snacks, desserts, whatever.
- 10:17Speaker 2: The hell, you can use them for literally anything.
- 10:19Speaker 5: Anything there, any snack, birthday cake, whatever you want. So
- 10:24Speaker 5: if you go to Coal's, you get a ninety cent
- 10:27Speaker 5: vanilla cake mix and they come in other flavors they
- 10:30Speaker 5: do a tin of Coal's apple slices two dollars, but
- 10:33Speaker 5: sometimes on sale.
- 10:34Speaker 2: For one dollar. Yep, exactly. I got them on sale
- 10:36Speaker 2: for one dollar, all in the same bowl. You don't
- 10:40Speaker 2: even have to drain the apple. You put the apple
- 10:42Speaker 2: juice from juice for tin. Like, get your cake mix back, yep.
- 10:47Speaker 2: Dump the cake mix. Then we're going to dump the
- 10:49Speaker 2: whole tin like you just opening, no draining, dump it
- 10:52Speaker 2: in yep, and then the maths.
- 10:54Speaker 5: That's the I'm assuming you put the rest of what's
- 10:57Speaker 5: on the packaging of the Coal's box, just.
- 11:01Speaker 2: Just the mix. Mix it together, chuck it in the
- 11:03Speaker 2: oven one eighty and you have, after about fifteen to
- 11:07Speaker 2: twenty minutes, about twelve nicely sized cupcakes. I mean, if
- 11:11Speaker 2: you wanted to double it up, you'd have six good muffins.
- 11:14Speaker 2: That would be a good morning tea, but like very
- 11:17Speaker 2: very good. The benefit here is that it's super cheap.
- 11:19Speaker 2: You also don't need to be a master chef, like
- 11:22Speaker 2: literally dump it in the bowl if you want to
- 11:25Speaker 2: get creative. I feel like I'm taking over Bexbroke Kicks
- 11:28Speaker 2: very passionate about tree muffins. You can mix up the
- 11:31Speaker 2: flavors totally.
- 11:33Speaker 4: I was thinking you could add cinnamon if you did
- 11:35Speaker 4: the apple apple cinnamon. Mate.
- 11:36Speaker 2: I have done that. I just didn't want to tell
- 11:38Speaker 2: beck about the cinnamon part because then it gets like complicated.
- 11:41Speaker 5: More expensive, more expensive, true, Tue.
- 11:43Speaker 2: True, But Jess is obsessed with peaches. Yeap vanilla peach muffins.
- 11:48Speaker 5: Yeah, stunning the canned peaches.
- 11:51Speaker 2: Yeah, the canned peaches has so two dollars at coals.
- 11:53Speaker 2: Look at that one hundred percent. You know what, you
- 11:55Speaker 2: could save even more money doing going to Audi to
- 11:57Speaker 2: get your tinned fruit much cheaper than cheaper. But I'm lazy,
- 12:01Speaker 2: so we just went with coals. You can mix up
- 12:03Speaker 2: the cake flavor. They also have chocolate.
- 12:05Speaker 4: Love that.
- 12:05Speaker 2: Are you rich and you're buying tinned cherries cherry chocolate muffins?
- 12:10Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, e xacolate chips. Yeah, you could do
- 12:13Speaker 2: chocolate chips. You could do anything. This magic cake mix
- 12:16Speaker 2: is exactly that. It is magic. I love that. I
- 12:19Speaker 2: love it. Ninety cents.
- 12:21Speaker 5: Every muffin is about fifty cents each, just under.
- 12:23Speaker 2: Under cents each under and that's a good snack. Yeah,
- 12:27Speaker 2: it's a very good. You could have a picnic, guys
- 12:29Speaker 2: with your friends and you could say ring dessert three dollars.
- 12:33Speaker 2: There you go, money win.
- 12:34Speaker 4: That is the money win.
- 12:35Speaker 2: I've got another recipe. I'll share it with you later.
- 12:37Speaker 2: I'm not telling you about it on the podcast because
- 12:39Speaker 2: I'm going to make it. It's going to make you
- 12:40Speaker 2: try it first and then you can tell me if
- 12:42Speaker 2: it's good or not. So you for taste expensive yeah,
- 12:45Speaker 2: and then you can guess the cost and if it's good,
- 12:48Speaker 2: we will share it on the podcast again. As you know,
- 12:51Speaker 2: Victoria's recipe tips new segment, which are also Bex broke
- 12:55Speaker 2: tips that she steals from Victoria.
- 12:57Speaker 5: I love that.
- 12:57Speaker 2: I love that idea economy exact.
- 13:01Speaker 5: My next broke tip, I'm going to tell you about
- 13:04Speaker 5: a broke tip from Paula, who has sent me through
- 13:07Speaker 5: this really amazing group, the food Bank. Basically, if you
- 13:12Speaker 5: are without food and you have absolutely no money, or
- 13:15Speaker 5: even if you just don't have enough to be paying
- 13:18Speaker 5: for food and something else rent happen, whatever life happens,
- 13:22Speaker 5: you can find your nearest food bank at www dot
- 13:28Speaker 5: foodbank dot org dot AU. So you're just chuck in
- 13:30Speaker 5: your postcode or your suburb and you'll find the nearest
- 13:33Speaker 5: food bank to you how good.
- 13:35Speaker 2: That is really good.
- 13:36Speaker 5: And I was going to piggyback off of that one
- 13:38Speaker 5: for my own broke tip. If you are in Brunswick
- 13:41Speaker 5: or in Melbourne, there are so many free food pantries around.
- 13:45Speaker 5: One is that's really wholesome? Yeah, one one Annie boorit.
- 13:49Speaker 5: I don't think it's there anymore, but there was a
- 13:51Speaker 5: free food pantry there for a while and you won't
- 13:53Speaker 5: just get your standard bloody beans and whatever you you'll
- 13:57Speaker 5: get not that's just stuff. You get anything that you want.
- 14:01Speaker 5: People just leave stuff there, you know.
- 14:03Speaker 2: I love that. So giving back, especially in that way
- 14:06Speaker 2: is just it's so nice. It's so nice.
- 14:08Speaker 5: So I would recommend, you know, if you don't have
- 14:11Speaker 5: the money to afford food, go try and find a
- 14:14Speaker 5: free food pantry. And if you do have the money,
- 14:17Speaker 5: just go around and pop something in the in the
- 14:19Speaker 5: pantry if you have time, if you have capacity, I'd
- 14:21Speaker 5: be really lovely. You're helping out so many people.
- 14:24Speaker 2: I've had a few messages actually from people who are
- 14:27Speaker 2: struggling at the moment, and you know, obviously my dms
- 14:30Speaker 2: are open and I love having these conversations. But I've
- 14:32Speaker 2: recommended the food bank. A couple of times to a
- 14:35Speaker 2: few people in our community, and they might respond with
- 14:38Speaker 2: things like, oh, it's too embarrassing. It's this is not babe,
- 14:42Speaker 2: It's a season of life. It is what it is. Like,
- 14:44Speaker 2: we are so lucky to live in a world where
- 14:47Speaker 2: a service like that exists. Use it, Please use it
- 14:50Speaker 2: and feel bad about using it, feel empowered about using it.
- 14:54Speaker 2: Like it's helping you get ahead, and it's kind of like,
- 14:57Speaker 2: you know, people giving you a bit of a piggyback
- 14:59Speaker 2: up because if you don't have anything, it's going to
- 15:01Speaker 2: mean that you can put food on the table and
- 15:02Speaker 2: you can provide and you can do what you need
- 15:04Speaker 2: to do. But also it means that you can channel
- 15:07Speaker 2: that money to somewhere else that might need it. Maybe
- 15:10Speaker 2: you need to pay your rent or your electricity or
- 15:12Speaker 2: your bills or something, and it's going to help you
- 15:14Speaker 2: stay out of debt and be in the best possible position.
- 15:17Speaker 2: So I just am all about it, like, if you
- 15:19Speaker 2: need help, just ask for the help, put your hand up.
- 15:22Speaker 2: There's absolutely no shame in it, because I do genuinely
- 15:25Speaker 2: believe that what goes around in life comes around. And
- 15:28Speaker 2: if you know you're using that service today and you're
- 15:30Speaker 2: feeling really guilty about it. Reframe it, be like cool,
- 15:33Speaker 2: I'm going to use it today while I'm in this
- 15:35Speaker 2: season of my life, and then one day, when I
- 15:38Speaker 2: have some extra cash, I'm going to be the person
- 15:40Speaker 2: that puts some food into that food bank so that
- 15:42Speaker 2: somebody else who was in my position feels just as
- 15:45Speaker 2: empowered as I did. And I just think it's it's
- 15:47Speaker 2: honestly such a beautiful sentiment, and it is what it
- 15:50Speaker 2: is at the end of the days. Absolutely no shame.
- 15:53Speaker 2: Please use it if you need to, though well, usually
- 15:55Speaker 2: it exists for you.
- 15:57Speaker 5: Literally exists for people who need it.
- 15:59Speaker 2: Usually, and I feel like sometimes people say things like, oh,
- 16:02Speaker 2: but I'm not as bad as other people. Sit down.
- 16:04Speaker 2: If you need it, you need it. We're not comparing
- 16:06Speaker 2: our circumstances. Like I could just go on about this
- 16:09Speaker 2: all day, but we will not.
- 16:10Speaker 4: And if you do find yourself in a good position,
- 16:12Speaker 4: if you maybe do have a couple of dollars to
- 16:14Speaker 4: spare for you know, those extra cans of audi fruits
- 16:17Speaker 4: or coals, the ninycent cake mix, if you're in the
- 16:20Speaker 4: position where you're on the other end of the spectrum,
- 16:22Speaker 4: you can donate to the food bank. You can eat
- 16:23Speaker 4: that donate physical food products. I really like when Coals
- 16:26Speaker 4: has the two for one sometimes it's so good one
- 16:28Speaker 4: for me, one for the food bank, and you're not
- 16:30Speaker 4: paying any extra. It works out the same. But you
- 16:32Speaker 4: can do a little bit of good. Or you can
- 16:33Speaker 4: donate our money as well. If there isn't one mearu
- 16:36Speaker 4: so gen same website that they're cried out before. It's
- 16:38Speaker 4: just a nice little circle of give and take and
- 16:40Speaker 4: we're all here to help each other. Really perfect love beck.
- 16:43Speaker 2: Is that all for broke tips? That's all for broke
- 16:46Speaker 2: tips this week? Oh my gosh, I love them. You
- 16:48Speaker 2: stole them all from everybody else. Have a little genius.
- 16:51Speaker 2: All right, let's go to a really quick break because
- 16:53Speaker 2: on the flip side, we're going to be talking about
- 16:55Speaker 2: demystifying some investment terms and we're going to be talking
- 16:58Speaker 2: about whether you should disclose you only flans to your
- 17:00Speaker 2: boss or not. Jess, got something you want to talk about.
- 17:03Speaker 4: Oh, I'm gonna have to come back after the break
- 17:05Speaker 4: to find out. Welcome back, everybody. Let's jump into this
- 17:13Speaker 4: week's money dilemma.
- 17:14Speaker 6: Hi, she's on the money. I have an investing question
- 17:18Speaker 6: for you guys. So I've recently started investing in the
- 17:22Speaker 6: ASX on an online brokerage platform, and I have a
- 17:27Speaker 6: question about something on there. So I don't know what
- 17:31Speaker 6: it means by having an expiry date or choosing an
- 17:34Speaker 6: expiry date, or what good till canceled means. It's all
- 17:38Speaker 6: very confusing to me. I don't know what happens if
- 17:41Speaker 6: you pass the expiry date, and everything that I seem
- 17:44Speaker 6: to find online is just confusing me. More so, I
- 17:47Speaker 6: would love for someone to explain this to me in
- 17:49Speaker 6: a simple way.
- 17:50Speaker 2: Yeah, thank you so much. This is a really good
- 17:53Speaker 2: question because it's not commonly asked or spoken about. But essentially,
- 17:58Speaker 2: when she says good till care anseled or good till expiry,
- 18:02Speaker 2: it's not actually an investment. So what happens is Jess,
- 18:06Speaker 2: let's say, has downloaded a new brokerage platform, and that
- 18:09Speaker 2: brokerage platform enables you to put a tracker on a
- 18:13Speaker 2: particular share. So Jess might go, I really want to
- 18:15Speaker 2: buy a bank share the Bank of Victoria. We spoke
- 18:17Speaker 2: about that the other day on the podcast. Really want
- 18:20Speaker 2: to buy shares in the Bank of Victoria. Right now,
- 18:22Speaker 2: they're a bit overpriced though. You know the market's talking
- 18:25Speaker 2: about them, so you know they're sixty bucks a share.
- 18:27Speaker 2: But Jess, she only wants to pay fifty five dollars
- 18:29Speaker 2: to share. So she puts in what's called an order,
- 18:32Speaker 2: and an order is for your investment platform to buy
- 18:36Speaker 2: those shares if they get to her set price. So
- 18:39Speaker 2: say overnight, Jess, you know, hasn't been checking her investment platform.
- 18:43Speaker 2: Once the share market opens, she's at work, she hasn't
- 18:45Speaker 2: really thought about her investments. Again, what happens is the
- 18:49Speaker 2: share market, you know, goes down a little bit and
- 18:51Speaker 2: those shares are now the fifty five dollar market that
- 18:53Speaker 2: Jess said, you know what, I would purchase ten shares
- 18:56Speaker 2: at fifty five dollars if that was the price, but
- 18:59Speaker 2: if it doesn't get down to that, I don't want
- 19:00Speaker 2: to buy them. So what would happen is she would
- 19:03Speaker 2: put her order in and her platform would track that
- 19:07Speaker 2: and try and make sure that, you know, Jess's order
- 19:09Speaker 2: gets in. They want the order to go in because
- 19:11Speaker 2: they will be charging jess brokerage if that order goes through,
- 19:14Speaker 2: so they make money. If Jess gets that for fifty
- 19:16Speaker 2: five dollars, Jess will be very happy because she got
- 19:19Speaker 2: the shares at the price that she wanted to pay,
- 19:21Speaker 2: and everyone's very excited. Unlike usual commands though, and unlike
- 19:27Speaker 2: you know, actually facilitating a transaction. When Jess puts in
- 19:31Speaker 2: a little marker and says they really want to buy
- 19:33Speaker 2: it fifty five dollars, there's usually an expiry date on
- 19:37Speaker 2: that offer. Jess says, they really want to buy that,
- 19:39Speaker 2: and then the transaction platform or the brokerage platform says,
- 19:43Speaker 2: you know where is Jess. We'll keep an eye on
- 19:45Speaker 2: that for the next sixty days, and that sixty day
- 19:48Speaker 2: mark will mean that either the order is executed so
- 19:52Speaker 2: she buys the shares, or it's canceled, and she'll probably
- 19:55Speaker 2: get an email saying, hey, your order couldn't be fulfilled
- 19:58Speaker 2: at that price market, which points will reassess and say, oh,
- 20:01Speaker 2: it's been two months. The market's either doing really well
- 20:04Speaker 2: and it might not drop down to that fifty five
- 20:06Speaker 2: dollar market that I really want to buy the shares at,
- 20:08Speaker 2: or I'm just gonna put the same ordering again because
- 20:11Speaker 2: I'm willing to wait and I really want my shares
- 20:13Speaker 2: for fifty five bucks. So it's usually just a trading
- 20:17Speaker 2: term that means all right, Well, you've ordered something, they
- 20:21Speaker 2: kind of just give you a refund and say, don't
- 20:22Speaker 2: worry about it. At the end of sixty days. Typically
- 20:25Speaker 2: it's sixty days, but essentially that's the expiry date, or
- 20:30Speaker 2: it's until canceled. So the expiry date will be the
- 20:34Speaker 2: date that your order gets canceled because they couldn't fulfill
- 20:37Speaker 2: it for that fifty five dollars. Obviously lots of different circumstances,
- 20:41Speaker 2: but does that make sense?
- 20:43Speaker 4: Does till canceled also mean if I've placed that order
- 20:46Speaker 4: for six days and I go.
- 20:47Speaker 2: Oh, actually I don't want to buy that anymore.
- 20:49Speaker 4: Be unrealistic of me? Yeah too price, I can cancel
- 20:53Speaker 4: it and that would fall under the tool canceled as well.
- 20:55Speaker 1: Ye.
- 20:55Speaker 2: Yeah, So at expiry they will cancel your transaction, or
- 20:58Speaker 2: you could cancel it earlier. But that's essentially what it means.
- 21:01Speaker 2: It's when you are trading on the ASX, which is
- 21:05Speaker 2: the Australian Stock Exchange. Every country has their own or
- 21:09Speaker 2: most countries have their own stock exchange, and the ASX
- 21:13Speaker 2: is just the Australian version of that. You can access
- 21:15Speaker 2: that through any of the Australian Share trading platforms that
- 21:18Speaker 2: you currently have access to. Some of them won't do orders,
- 21:22Speaker 2: and that's okay, some of them will. It's just something
- 21:25Speaker 2: that you know, if you're an investor and you're looking
- 21:27Speaker 2: for something at a particular price, you can put in
- 21:30Speaker 2: an order and say I want this. It also means
- 21:33Speaker 2: that you can put in orders outside of standard trading hours.
- 21:37Speaker 2: So here in Australia, the share market's actually only open
- 21:40Speaker 2: from ten to four every day, so you might you know,
- 21:43Speaker 2: Jess has full time job, Jess, you are trading at night,
- 21:46Speaker 2: so you might go online and say, oh, I really
- 21:49Speaker 2: want to buy shares in the Bank of Victoria, but
- 21:51Speaker 2: the AX the Australian share market actually doesn't open until
- 21:54Speaker 2: ten am tomorrow. I'm going to put in an order
- 21:57Speaker 2: with my platform, and Jess might go in and order
- 22:00Speaker 2: those ten shares, say I really want to order those
- 22:02Speaker 2: ten shares, and then she'd tick a box to say
- 22:04Speaker 2: yes at that price, and then she'd submit that order
- 22:08Speaker 2: and the platform would usually then send her an email
- 22:11Speaker 2: and say your order's been confirmed. Like I said, she's
- 22:14Speaker 2: put the order in, it hasn't been processed yet. Then
- 22:17Speaker 2: when the market opens at ten am, whatever stock broker
- 22:20Speaker 2: she's going through, will place that order, and then she'll
- 22:23Speaker 2: get an email to say that order has successfully gone through.
- 22:27Speaker 2: So it's kind of just like her doing a click
- 22:29Speaker 2: and collect so the shares.
- 22:31Speaker 4: That's so cute.
- 22:32Speaker 2: I guess that was a pretty simple one this week
- 22:34Speaker 2: that didn't require a lot of opinion.
- 22:36Speaker 4: That's probably a good thing because I think this week's
- 22:38Speaker 4: community DM might take up a little bit of time.
- 22:40Speaker 2: Oh you reckon? Are you ready?
- 22:42Speaker 4: I am all right.
- 22:44Speaker 2: Today's DM is arguably on the spicier side because it's
- 22:48Speaker 2: about a spicier site. So guys strap in because this
- 22:53Speaker 2: week's community Dilemma went a little bit like this. Hey, ladies,
- 22:57Speaker 2: big fan of the She's on the Money podcast and
- 23:00Speaker 2: would appreciate your advice. So I have a side hustle
- 23:03Speaker 2: business in OnlyFans that I work alongside my full time
- 23:06Speaker 2: nine to five job. I'm really worried about my boss
- 23:09Speaker 2: finding out and me losing my job, as I know
- 23:12Speaker 2: they won't like this. My question is do I tell
- 23:15Speaker 2: my employer or ask them if this is okay with them,
- 23:18Speaker 2: or do I keep it a secret and run the
- 23:20Speaker 2: risk of them finding out and potentially firing me. Also,
- 23:24Speaker 2: I should note that in my contract it states that
- 23:26Speaker 2: I will not and then in brackets without the consent
- 23:29Speaker 2: of the company be engaging in any other trade, business,
- 23:32Speaker 2: or occupation. Would love to know your thoughts on how
- 23:35Speaker 2: I need to navigate this.
- 23:37Speaker 4: Oof. There's two elements to this. There's the only fans
- 23:41Speaker 4: aspect and then there's the contractual aspect about how in
- 23:45Speaker 4: my mind almost I see it exactly the same way.
- 23:49Speaker 4: So I think starting with the contractual obligation because that
- 23:54Speaker 4: I feel like is the foundation, and then the only
- 23:55Speaker 4: fans is like an overlaid element. You've signed a contract
- 24:00Speaker 4: and a one hundred percent you know. I think that
- 24:02Speaker 4: people are probably expecting us to say no, like you're
- 24:06Speaker 4: at your nine to five for nine to five. They
- 24:07Speaker 4: don't control your life outside, which I understand and on
- 24:10Speaker 4: some level agree with. However, if you have signed a
- 24:13Speaker 4: contract saying I will not do this without you know,
- 24:16Speaker 4: getting permission, you are bound by that. And I think
- 24:19Speaker 4: we've said signed contract.
- 24:21Speaker 2: You said no. No, we haven't said it before, Jess.
- 24:24Speaker 2: You and I have literally had this conversation like a
- 24:26Speaker 2: month ago where we were talking about side hustles and
- 24:29Speaker 2: what it meant. So no, it wasn't on the pod.
- 24:31Speaker 2: It was literally a personal conversation about what you would
- 24:34Speaker 2: and wouldn't disclose, and you know, oh what does this
- 24:37Speaker 2: mean and how does this work? And you know, oh, well,
- 24:39Speaker 2: what if you did want to spiceya side hustle, be
- 24:41Speaker 2: like okay, like cool, have fun with your jesses. Very
- 24:45Speaker 2: committed to this idea of one day making a lot
- 24:48Speaker 2: of money from selling foot pictures.
- 24:50Speaker 4: If anyone wants to buy photos of my feet, I
- 24:51Speaker 4: will sell them to you at a very reasonable price.
- 24:53Speaker 4: Don't know how do you block the ground, but I'll
- 24:54Speaker 4: just buy Yeah, I do. But see, this is the thing.
- 24:56Speaker 7: I feel like.
- 24:57Speaker 2: That's it's just making money. It's a good idea. Why
- 24:59Speaker 2: not Also if you have an only fans for your feet,
- 25:05Speaker 2: I want your money diary one hundred like I need it.
- 25:08Speaker 2: I need your money diary because it just to me,
- 25:11Speaker 2: that's something that just doesn't make sense. Like not trying
- 25:14Speaker 2: to kink, shame or do any of those things. No,
- 25:17Speaker 2: it's just one of those things I cannot comprehend. I
- 25:20Speaker 2: cannot believe that people would pay you money for pictures
- 25:23Speaker 2: of your feet. But my friend, I'm here for it,
- 25:25Speaker 2: like I get that bank. Sis doesn't matter how.
- 25:28Speaker 4: Went or where absolutely, So back to before we get
- 25:31Speaker 4: to the only fans, Oh yeah, yeah, act to the
- 25:32Speaker 4: contract thing. You've signed a contract, You're obliged by that contract.
- 25:36Speaker 4: It doesn't matter what line of work it is. Like
- 25:38Speaker 4: if you've said a contract saying, if I signed a
- 25:40Speaker 4: contract saying when I took this job, they did clause
- 25:42Speaker 4: and it is a very standard clause. Is something we
- 25:44Speaker 4: should say. This isn't one of those things where it's
- 25:46Speaker 4: a company being sneaky. A noncompete clause is extremely common.
- 25:51Speaker 4: It's in most standard contracts, it's in my contract.
- 25:54Speaker 2: And so yeah, because like, can you imagine just being like, oh,
- 25:58Speaker 2: I want to side hustle, which, by the way, does
- 26:00Speaker 2: have a side hustle. It does have another way of
- 26:02Speaker 2: generating income outside. She's on the money, which I'm so
- 26:04Speaker 2: happy for and I actually love that she has it.
- 26:08Speaker 2: But if she came to me and said, oh, yeah,
- 26:10Speaker 2: I'm actually going to go work for another money podcast,
- 26:12Speaker 2: I'd be like, sit down, I know you are not.
- 26:15Speaker 4: And that, I think is where the caveat in my
- 26:18Speaker 4: mind is around additional work generally, is I don't think
- 26:22Speaker 4: your employer can unreasonably refuse like we've brought me up.
- 26:26Speaker 4: My example is you guys know, if you follow me
- 26:28Speaker 4: on Instagram, I freelance in content creation for brands that
- 26:31Speaker 4: has a little bit of crossover honestly with what I do,
- 26:34Speaker 4: and I'm.
- 26:34Speaker 2: Very so careful about that and like, I really respect it.
- 26:37Speaker 2: But at the same time, I'm like, Jess, get the bank.
- 26:39Speaker 2: It's fine. And sometimes there's been, like you know, a
- 26:42Speaker 2: client that She's on the money has that has then
- 26:44Speaker 2: reached out to Jess individually, and she always I feel like,
- 26:47Speaker 2: you freak out every time, and I'm always like, no,
- 26:50Speaker 2: if they want to work with you individually, like, of
- 26:51Speaker 2: course yeah. To me, she's a very different content creator
- 26:55Speaker 2: than She's on the money, very complimentary, Like I think
- 26:57Speaker 2: that they sit side by side with the type of
- 26:59Speaker 2: content and it just creates. And sometimes you'll do like
- 27:02Speaker 2: your budget fashion halls or whatever, and I think that
- 27:04Speaker 2: that makes perfect sense to fit into She's on the money,
- 27:08Speaker 2: but it's not competition with She's on the money or
- 27:10Speaker 2: from my perspective, and I feel very.
- 27:12Speaker 4: Thankful for that. But I think not all employees are
- 27:14Speaker 4: as lucky as I am that they have an employer
- 27:16Speaker 4: who has that perspective and it is their right ultimately,
- 27:20Speaker 4: if they feel like whatever you're doing outside of work,
- 27:23Speaker 4: if for whatever reason Victoria said, oh, like I'm a
- 27:25Speaker 4: bit worried. That conflicks like it is your right as
- 27:28Speaker 4: an employer to say that. And that's where that contractual
- 27:31Speaker 4: obligation comes into play.
- 27:32Speaker 2: Like you can't have your cake and eat it too.
- 27:35Speaker 2: Like at the end of the day, you and as
- 27:37Speaker 2: you said, yes, I don't actually care what you do
- 27:39Speaker 2: outside of work. I think it's important to be really transparent,
- 27:43Speaker 2: but it is a contractor that you signed with me
- 27:47Speaker 2: as your employer to say, yeah, like I'll let you
- 27:49Speaker 2: know if there's anything else that I'm doing. I mean,
- 27:51Speaker 2: you're right, it is your life. It is what you do.
- 27:54Speaker 2: But like this idea of well I shouldn't have to
- 27:56Speaker 2: tell you, it's like, well, you signed a contract, and
- 27:59Speaker 2: if you won't comfort with the contract, you shouldn't have
- 28:01Speaker 2: signed it. And that's what I mean when I say
- 28:03Speaker 2: you can't have your cake and eat it too, because
- 28:05Speaker 2: like basically just does have her cake and eats it
- 28:07Speaker 2: too and does whatever she wants outside of it. And
- 28:09Speaker 2: that's great, but you know why she gets to do
- 28:11Speaker 2: that because she's so transparent about the process and it
- 28:14Speaker 2: doesn't impact my business, But it would make me really
- 28:17Speaker 2: uncomfortable if Jess wanted to freelance for another, you know,
- 28:21Speaker 2: really big money podcast, if that's a thing, because I
- 28:23Speaker 2: kind of be like, oh, well, you know what ipeed?
- 28:25Speaker 2: Does she take out of my business and then give
- 28:28Speaker 2: to them about the process what you know? Vice versa, Like,
- 28:31Speaker 2: you know, is she going to go and I know
- 28:33Speaker 2: Jess would never, but is she going to go to
- 28:35Speaker 2: work with them one day and do something and then
- 28:37Speaker 2: bring it into my business? And then I'm accidentally going
- 28:40Speaker 2: to look like I'm copying someone Like it's just a
- 28:43Speaker 2: murky circumstance that as her employer because I pay her
- 28:47Speaker 2: a job I deserve to know about. But that then
- 28:51Speaker 2: lays over into the fact that she's on the money.
- 28:54Speaker 2: I don't care how you make money outside of her,
- 28:56Speaker 2: as long as it doesn't impact she's on the money.
- 28:58Speaker 2: And that's kind of a question that means different things
- 29:02Speaker 2: to different employers, right, So if Beck turned around and
- 29:05Speaker 2: said I had an only fans it's me, I'd be like,
- 29:09Speaker 2: get that bank, sis. As long as the content that
- 29:12Speaker 2: you're creating is completely consensual and you are happy with
- 29:15Speaker 2: what you are up to, I respect that, yes, but
- 29:20Speaker 2: that's not the view of a lot of other employers
- 29:23Speaker 2: like Jess if she ever actually you know, she's talked
- 29:25Speaker 2: about it for the last three years, so full of it.
- 29:28Speaker 2: She's never going to do it, but she's talked about
- 29:30Speaker 2: this foot content because I think both of the foot Yeah,
- 29:35Speaker 2: she's on the floor, like whatever we want to call it. Yeah,
- 29:38Speaker 2: I would support her to do that because I genuinely
- 29:41Speaker 2: think that people, especially women, should be empowered to make
- 29:44Speaker 2: their own decisions. And I also would never be embarrassed.
- 29:48Speaker 2: I would think it was more telling of the person
- 29:51Speaker 2: who quote dabbed them in. If someone came to me
- 29:54Speaker 2: and said, hey, I just discovered Jess as foot fetish pious, like,
- 30:00Speaker 2: I'd be like, yeah, cool. But I feel like as
- 30:03Speaker 2: her employer, I do deserve to know because I do
- 30:06Speaker 2: not deserve to be blindsided by that information either. Yes,
- 30:09Speaker 2: So I think that if someone came to me and said, well,
- 30:11Speaker 2: did you know Jess has this, and I'd be like, yes,
- 30:13Speaker 2: you better be paying if you're looking.
- 30:15Speaker 4: Like free feet, no free feet?
- 30:17Speaker 2: Yeah, and Beck, if you started, it would be like great,
- 30:20Speaker 2: at least I know, like, are there any accommodations I
- 30:23Speaker 2: need to make as your employer, like you know, times
- 30:25Speaker 2: or changes or whatever. It is, like, what would you
- 30:27Speaker 2: expect from me? And you might go nothing, be it's
- 30:29Speaker 2: just in my own time, and I go okay, great,
- 30:31Speaker 2: like have fun. But like most people aren't comfortable with
- 30:34Speaker 2: that concept.
- 30:36Speaker 5: It's shocking to me. What element I feel like this
- 30:39Speaker 5: is going to be maybe different from you guys. I
- 30:42Speaker 5: find it very shocking that people are offended when people
- 30:45Speaker 5: have an only fans. I feel like, if your employer,
- 30:48Speaker 5: if you're worried that your employe's going to fire you
- 30:49Speaker 5: because you have an only fan, get the hell out
- 30:52Speaker 5: of there, you know what I mean? Yeah, who cares
- 30:54Speaker 5: if someone's consensually doing something, whether it's either I'm not
- 30:58Speaker 5: comparing these two. I'm literally just using this is an example.
- 31:00Speaker 5: But say you're a sex worker.
- 31:02Speaker 2: Who cares?
- 31:03Speaker 5: If you want to be a sex worker, be a
- 31:04Speaker 5: sex worker.
- 31:05Speaker 2: It's a job. It's a job.
- 31:06Speaker 5: Everything's a job, and everything is like a basically human
- 31:10Speaker 5: made social norms are human maid like, like, who cares
- 31:13Speaker 5: what anyone's doing? If you worry that you can get fired,
- 31:16Speaker 5: get out of there.
- 31:17Speaker 2: They're not the right people for you if they're going
- 31:19Speaker 2: to judge you. It says so much more about them
- 31:21Speaker 2: than it doesn't really want so much, Like it's so
- 31:25Speaker 2: true though, like it's this idea that it's like a secret,
- 31:28Speaker 2: and I mean, you might want to keep it a secret.
- 31:30Speaker 2: We've actually had a couple of community members on the
- 31:32Speaker 2: podcast to do money diaries before, who do do only fans?
- 31:35Speaker 2: One of them who is We're able to name her
- 31:38Speaker 2: because she mentioned it, Dara, She did only fans and
- 31:41Speaker 2: her employer was like, so fine, what early supportive. She
- 31:44Speaker 2: went to her employer and said, hey, like I do
- 31:47Speaker 2: this and I want to do it on the side.
- 31:48Speaker 2: I think could be really good at it, And her
- 31:49Speaker 2: employee was like, yeah, see, you can have fun even
- 31:52Speaker 2: on that podcast. It was probably two years ago. She
- 31:54Speaker 2: you just look it up like type in She's on
- 31:57Speaker 2: the Money Only Fans and it will come up in
- 31:59Speaker 2: your search on your podcast platform. But even she said,
- 32:02Speaker 2: like I was a bit worried, and I'm also a
- 32:04Speaker 2: bit worried about what my job looks like in the future,
- 32:07Speaker 2: because she said, my job in the future might not
- 32:09Speaker 2: be as accommodating as my current boss or what that
- 32:12Speaker 2: looks like. And I totally get that reservation because like
- 32:15Speaker 2: I would be worried about the same thing, but obviously
- 32:18Speaker 2: she's just gone gung ho and gone for it. We
- 32:20Speaker 2: also had another money diarist who spoke about her only
- 32:23Speaker 2: fans experience, but about wanting it to be a bit
- 32:26Speaker 2: more private because she had young kids and didn't want
- 32:28Speaker 2: that to be a part of the conversation she was
- 32:30Speaker 2: having with her kids. And you know, she was like,
- 32:31Speaker 2: I don't really want to go to the school and
- 32:33Speaker 2: know that the dads are watching me knowing this information.
- 32:36Speaker 2: But that ended up being really toxic for her because
- 32:41Speaker 2: she got docked and someone found it and then threatened
- 32:44Speaker 2: to tell her community about it, and she clearly had
- 32:47Speaker 2: to come out and be like, well, yes, I do
- 32:49Speaker 2: do this, but nobody should ever be forced into sharing
- 32:52Speaker 2: information about themselves. And I actually have a friend who
- 32:56Speaker 2: is a sex worker and she's married to a beautiful
- 32:59Speaker 2: again one of my friends who's been on the podcast,
- 33:03Speaker 2: and she spoke about her experience as a sex worker,
- 33:06Speaker 2: and she had somebody in her family docs her because
- 33:09Speaker 2: they hadn't told their parents about it, and it was
- 33:12Speaker 2: like common knowledge she was a sex worker. He had
- 33:14Speaker 2: his job and a family member told his parents about
- 33:19Speaker 2: it because the quote they deserved to know. It was
- 33:22Speaker 2: just not information she was wanting to share, or they
- 33:24Speaker 2: had decided as a family, this is just what I
- 33:27Speaker 2: want to share, not not what you want to share.
- 33:29Speaker 2: And so there's clearly and I mean, we know it exists.
- 33:32Speaker 2: There's clearly judgment that overlays over these jobs that we
- 33:36Speaker 2: all know should not exist because a job is a job.
- 33:39Speaker 5: A job is a job, and it's twenty twenty three.
- 33:41Speaker 2: What the hell like, Oh, your job is physical, yes,
- 33:43Speaker 2: so is a construction worker. Like, oh, you're a paver,
- 33:46Speaker 2: you're a builder, you're a plumber. You use your body
- 33:48Speaker 2: for your work. Great, So do a lot of other
- 33:50Speaker 2: people like it. It doesn't matter what it looks like.
- 33:53Speaker 5: And they're making these decisions today.
- 33:55Speaker 2: So I do not care what you do as long
- 33:58Speaker 2: as it is consensual, like that is a chosen career
- 34:02Speaker 2: path for you, then you do you boo. My concern
- 34:05Speaker 2: comes when you're doing something that maybe you feel forced
- 34:08Speaker 2: into doing, or you don't feel like you have any
- 34:10Speaker 2: other options, then we need to talk. Sure, And I
- 34:12Speaker 2: just it's twenty twenty three. I can't believe it still exists.
- 34:15Speaker 4: Yeah, before I say this, I'm just putting a caveat
- 34:17Speaker 4: on it because we've been getting behaved, we have been roastedly.
- 34:21Speaker 4: We are very if you cannot tell, very sex positive.
- 34:24Speaker 4: I love the only fans is a safe way for
- 34:27Speaker 4: people to empower themselves and earn money or for it. However,
- 34:30Speaker 4: the I guess the one thing I would put on
- 34:32Speaker 4: the flip side of that is as much as I
- 34:34Speaker 4: wholeheartedly believe in someone's right to do what they want
- 34:37Speaker 4: with their body, as much as I don't think that
- 34:39Speaker 4: that should have implications for your job, I am also
- 34:43Speaker 4: kind of conscious that in certain industries it could be
- 34:48Speaker 4: a concern for your employer, and it could be a concern.
- 34:51Speaker 4: Glad you brought this up reasonable reasons. And the first
- 34:54Speaker 4: example that comes to my mind is if you work
- 34:56Speaker 4: with children, or if you work in a teaching space.
- 34:59Speaker 4: There are all of these diff diferent regulations around you
- 35:02Speaker 4: know what children exposed to. And I am in no
- 35:05Speaker 4: way insinuating that if you work, if you're a sex worker,
- 35:07Speaker 4: I think children that's That's not what I'm saying it all,
- 35:11Speaker 4: but it's the risk that you run when you put
- 35:13Speaker 4: things on the internet. It is there for anybody to find.
- 35:15Speaker 4: So if you were, for example, a teacher who had
- 35:17Speaker 4: an only fans what happens if a student finds it.
- 35:20Speaker 4: There are all of these implications and liabilities that then
- 35:23Speaker 4: kind of come back to your employer. And it's a
- 35:26Speaker 4: bit of a tough spot in the sense of, well,
- 35:29Speaker 4: there are certain parents or certain people who might really
- 35:32Speaker 4: take issue with that. And while I think a lot
- 35:34Speaker 4: of us are progressive enough to go, oh, like, where's
- 35:37Speaker 4: the line, your employer also has a responsibility to those
- 35:41Speaker 4: regulations and to those things. If you work in politics,
- 35:43Speaker 4: it's something that could be weaponized. Are they putting you
- 35:46Speaker 4: at risk? Is I employ you knowing that you could
- 35:49Speaker 4: be docked as a part of a smear campaign? Like
- 35:51Speaker 4: there are all of these I think against.
- 35:53Speaker 2: Just ideas and things into consideration. And it's not because
- 35:58Speaker 2: I mean I feel awful talk about them, because I
- 36:00Speaker 2: feel like when we talk about them, we perpetuate this
- 36:03Speaker 2: idea that there should be a thing. We actually need
- 36:06Speaker 2: to talk about it because we need to break these
- 36:08Speaker 2: things down and say that's actually a ridiculous concept. The
- 36:12Speaker 2: idea that you'd be judged for using your body like silly,
- 36:16Speaker 2: I don't know, it's very silly, so dumb, so dumb,
- 36:19Speaker 2: but I think we do need to break it down.
- 36:20Speaker 2: And at the end of the day, like your company, like,
- 36:23Speaker 2: let's pretend you're a lawyer and your boss just isn't
- 36:26Speaker 2: that comfortable with the idea that their clients that are paying,
- 36:29Speaker 2: you know, eight or nine hundred dollars an hour for
- 36:31Speaker 2: you to be a lawyer on their certain project. They're
- 36:33Speaker 2: just not comfortable that they could see that content. They
- 36:35Speaker 2: don't think it's appropriate or professional, and they prefer that
- 36:38Speaker 2: the people that they employ don't do that. It's well
- 36:41Speaker 2: within their rights to make that decision. We talk about
- 36:44Speaker 2: cultural fit, we talk about, you know, hiring the right people,
- 36:46Speaker 2: technical capabilities, we talk about all of those things that
- 36:49Speaker 2: just might be something that they go I don't particularly
- 36:52Speaker 2: want that, and I think that that is okay as
- 36:55Speaker 2: long as it is completely transparent. I'm not saying that
- 36:58Speaker 2: I think it's okay that they do that. Like I
- 37:00Speaker 2: just think it's okay to have your own preferences. It's
- 37:03Speaker 2: kind of like having life preferences. I would prefer someone
- 37:06Speaker 2: who's open minded when I hire them. I prefer someone
- 37:09Speaker 2: who is sex positive when I hire them. A lot
- 37:12Speaker 2: of those things I don't learn until later. I'm not
- 37:15Speaker 2: going to hire someone if I think they're closed minded.
- 37:17Speaker 2: So I think it's really up to the business and
- 37:21Speaker 2: what they want to do and the perception they have,
- 37:24Speaker 2: because let's be honest, Like, people could judge she's on
- 37:27Speaker 2: the money differently because of the people that work there,
- 37:30Speaker 2: like beck, oh my god, you wear green jumpers?
- 37:34Speaker 4: Are you shitting me?
- 37:36Speaker 7: Yes?
- 37:37Speaker 2: White dress, Like couldn't believe it. Like there are so
- 37:39Speaker 2: many things that people could judge us on, But I
- 37:43Speaker 2: would assume that from my perspective, if you want to
- 37:45Speaker 2: judge us on that, you're probably not my people. So
- 37:48Speaker 2: we asked our community obviously what they think. We asked
- 37:54Speaker 2: our community first things. First, we said, do you have
- 37:56Speaker 2: a side hustle? Twenty six percent of you said yes.
- 38:00Speaker 2: That's huge, twenty six percent of our community members have
- 38:03Speaker 2: a side hustle. Next, if yes, does your employer know
- 38:08Speaker 2: about it? This one was a spicy response. Thirty eight
- 38:12Speaker 2: percent of you said yes, and sixty two percent of
- 38:15Speaker 2: you said that your employer does not know about your
- 38:17Speaker 2: side hustle. Isn't that a lot?
- 38:19Speaker 4: That's surprising to me?
- 38:22Speaker 2: I found that very wild. But then we obviously also
- 38:26Speaker 2: said we'd love your two cents we'd love to understand,
- 38:29Speaker 2: like what you think about this and how this works.
- 38:32Speaker 2: And we asked you, guys, what are your thoughts? Lots
- 38:35Speaker 2: of different opinions. You shouldn't do only fans if you've
- 38:39Speaker 2: got a real job, sit down and get out of
- 38:41Speaker 2: our community. If that's your thought pattern, no, honest to God,
- 38:45Speaker 2: just leave, see yourself out. No need to acknowledge your departure.
- 38:48Speaker 3: Just off you go.
- 38:49Speaker 2: Next, someone said, I would tell them regardless if they
- 38:52Speaker 2: fire her, then it wasn't the workplace for her, and
- 38:54Speaker 2: it would be a blessing in disguise.
- 38:56Speaker 5: That's a nice answer. Why are people nice?
- 39:00Speaker 2: I don't know why people aren't nice? Beck, it's the Internet.
- 39:03Speaker 2: I don't like till you get on TikTok. That place
- 39:05Speaker 2: is scary. Yeah. Next, someone said second part, Yes, of course,
- 39:10Speaker 2: tell the boss if it's in the contract. But otherwise,
- 39:13Speaker 2: why can't only fans be normalized, just like open conversation
- 39:16Speaker 2: about money and sex should be love. Someone else said,
- 39:21Speaker 2: I think no matter what the side hustle is, if
- 39:23Speaker 2: you're contracted to tell them, then you should. You would
- 39:25Speaker 2: want them to honor their side of the contract, so
- 39:28Speaker 2: you should do the same. I think that's important. However,
- 39:31Speaker 2: if there's nothing that stipulates that you have to, then
- 39:35Speaker 2: I don't think that there is any need as long
- 39:37Speaker 2: as it's not impacting your ability to do your job
- 39:39Speaker 2: for them or impacting them as a business ie working
- 39:43Speaker 2: for a direct competitor. Yeah, I agree with that a lot.
- 39:47Speaker 2: I agree, and I think it's really really important. Someone
- 39:49Speaker 2: else said I would absolutely lose my job in a
- 39:52Speaker 2: public hospital if I had an only fans And this
- 39:55Speaker 2: person has doctor in their user name, so I'm assuming
- 39:58Speaker 2: that they're a doctor in a hospital. I don't think
- 40:00Speaker 2: that's fair because I also, we've talked about this before,
- 40:03Speaker 2: and I think it's obviously an issue that really impacts
- 40:07Speaker 2: women as opposed to men. And there's this concept and
- 40:11Speaker 2: you know, I've been is the word crucified, I've been
- 40:14Speaker 2: like attacked attacks, probably too strong, but I've been told
- 40:17Speaker 2: to pull my head in a number of times online
- 40:19Speaker 2: And Jess, you and I got a comment only last
- 40:22Speaker 2: feet where someone commented, Jess and I've been doing these
- 40:25Speaker 2: little fit checks about our here on yeah, not on TikTok,
- 40:29Speaker 2: on Instagram reels, and we're having fun with it, right,
- 40:31Speaker 2: we're posting it on our personal pages, and someone commented,
- 40:35Speaker 2: I don't know what she's on. The money has become
- 40:38Speaker 2: it's a disgrace. I've not seen any money content. What
- 40:41Speaker 2: is this unfollowing? And I was kind of like.
- 40:43Speaker 4: No money content because it's not the money page. Girl.
- 40:45Speaker 2: Yeah, it was like our personal pages, and we always
- 40:47Speaker 2: sharing our personal interests on our personal pages, and look it.
- 40:53Speaker 2: I just find it so funny that, you know, especially
- 40:56Speaker 2: because I work in finance, there's this assumption that I
- 40:59Speaker 2: would act one hundred percent of the time like an
- 41:03Speaker 2: educated individual, and I'd be very formal and very corporate
- 41:06Speaker 2: and like as an ex financial advisor. I think a
- 41:09Speaker 2: lot of people have a lot of standards that they
- 41:12Speaker 2: hold me to, which I think are ridiculous because the
- 41:15Speaker 2: flip side of me is I'm going to have a
- 41:17Speaker 2: Barbie birthday party. I'm so excited to dress up in
- 41:20Speaker 2: a blonde twig. I have ordered so many Barbie things online,
- 41:24Speaker 2: so much paraphernalia. I've got some fairy wings. I really
- 41:28Speaker 2: like cooking. I really like my cats. I like my dog.
- 41:31Speaker 2: I like having a life outside of my workplace, where yeah,
- 41:36Speaker 2: I do have to be intelligent, I do have to
- 41:38Speaker 2: work and do corporate boring things. That's fine, but there's
- 41:42Speaker 2: this idea that that takes away from the fact that
- 41:46Speaker 2: I'm a professional. And I think that this stretches out
- 41:48Speaker 2: into this idea that you know, if a doctor did
- 41:51Speaker 2: only fans and they're like some kind of let's pretend neurosurgeon,
- 41:54Speaker 2: doesn't make them less of human to have an interest
- 41:57Speaker 2: outside or less good at their job, or less good
- 41:59Speaker 2: at their job exactly like they could be their best
- 42:01Speaker 2: neurologist in the entire friggin world. And then you see
- 42:05Speaker 2: them as a lesser human being because they decided to
- 42:08Speaker 2: take photos of themselves naked because they're into that. Yeah,
- 42:11Speaker 2: sit down like that does not change anybody's capability. And
- 42:15Speaker 2: I think I see it when I'm not even creating
- 42:18Speaker 2: content like that, Jess, I post pictures of my outfits
- 42:20Speaker 2: and get crucified. I cannot imagine the judgment on somebody
- 42:24Speaker 2: who's taking it a step further and you know, posting
- 42:26Speaker 2: content that they're comfortable with. So, yeah, there's just a lot. Obviously,
- 42:30Speaker 2: there were a lot of comments that said this shouldn't exist,
- 42:34Speaker 2: which we agree. We agree with in Cheese on the
- 42:36Speaker 2: Money because we just think you should do whatever you
- 42:39Speaker 2: want There was another comment, and I hated this. It
- 42:41Speaker 2: was from someone who said, I work in HR at
- 42:44Speaker 2: a professional services firm. We'd ask that you quit only
- 42:48Speaker 2: fans or resigned from us. You have to make dude,
- 42:53Speaker 2: which is really harsh. But I think it's open communication.
- 42:56Speaker 2: Is it the crux of it?
- 42:56Speaker 7: Right?
- 42:57Speaker 4: Like, as you said, Beck, it sounds like if that
- 42:59Speaker 4: was the case, that place isn't the workplace for you,
- 43:01Speaker 4: Like you don't want a workplace where you feel like
- 43:03Speaker 4: you've got to be secretive. Do I agree that only
- 43:06Speaker 4: fans should have any implication in your professional capabilities? Not
- 43:11Speaker 4: at all, But I do believe that there is I
- 43:14Speaker 4: guess also contractually a right that your employer has to
- 43:18Speaker 4: protect their image in you know, the way that they
- 43:20Speaker 4: see fit. And it's a murky line on where that
- 43:23Speaker 4: sits in terms of discriminatory or not. But ultimately, if
- 43:27Speaker 4: you going right back to our listeners contract, you have
- 43:31Speaker 4: signed a contract and you are bound by that contract.
- 43:33Speaker 4: Whether or not we agree with the semantics of it,
- 43:36Speaker 4: I think ultimately is neither here nor there. It's really tough,
- 43:40Speaker 4: but you are obligated to disclose to them, and I
- 43:42Speaker 4: would hope that they are supportive kind, good humans who
- 43:46Speaker 4: believe in the same sorts of things that we do.
- 43:48Speaker 4: And if they're not essentially fit for you, yeah, you
- 43:51Speaker 4: deserve somewhere that's going to champion you in the same
- 43:54Speaker 4: way that That's.
- 43:54Speaker 2: What I find. Yeah, one hundred percent. I just think
- 43:57Speaker 2: it's it goes back to that comment that's someone made
- 43:59Speaker 2: to us. They said, you signed a contract, which obviously
- 44:02Speaker 2: was your sentiment, but they said you would expect your
- 44:05Speaker 2: employer to hold up that side of the contract too.
- 44:08Speaker 2: And I think, you know, if something changed or there
- 44:10Speaker 2: was something in your contract that they were, you know,
- 44:12Speaker 2: a little bit in breach of you'd expect them to
- 44:14Speaker 2: share that with you, and you'd be horrified if they didn't.
- 44:17Speaker 2: So I think that it goes both ways. It's a
- 44:18Speaker 2: two way street, like respect your employer and what they've
- 44:21Speaker 2: asked of you, and you do the same thing. Like
- 44:24Speaker 2: I think it's just yeah, I would be disclosing it,
- 44:27Speaker 2: Let's be honest, I'd probably actually disclose it in a
- 44:30Speaker 2: little bit of a sneaky way, Like I think I
- 44:33Speaker 2: would approach my my employer first and say, hey, I'm
- 44:36Speaker 2: thinking about a side hustle. What are your thoughts and
- 44:38Speaker 2: feelings like about me doing something on the side, don't
- 44:41Speaker 2: know what that's going to look like yet, just to
- 44:43Speaker 2: even get an idea of what they would and wouldn't accept,
- 44:46Speaker 2: and then maybe open the conversation up later, because if
- 44:49Speaker 2: they straight out say absolutely no, no, side hustles, no this, no,
- 44:53Speaker 2: that's at the room, then you've got a little bit
- 44:56Speaker 2: of wiggle room to make the decision that's right for you.
- 44:58Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 44:59Speaker 2: But then on the flip side, if they've said, yep,
- 45:00Speaker 2: side hustles, fine, just I want you to earn money,
- 45:03Speaker 2: then at least you've got a little bit of leverage
- 45:05Speaker 2: in that conversation. When you finally decide to tell them
- 45:07Speaker 2: what that side hustle is about, you go, no, no,
- 45:10Speaker 2: you said it was okay for me to do this.
- 45:12Speaker 2: Why is it this particular one? Yeah, so that they
- 45:14Speaker 2: can't back down and be like, oh, we just don't
- 45:16Speaker 2: want you to be not committed to your job. Sit down,
