- 2:05perfect, like every bag that I have, I want to be a King Kong
- 2:10bag. Yeah, no, it is again.
- 2:14I have mine from 2016, still going strong.
- 2:18I'll probably have it at Syndicate.
- 2:21John has a shirt on. It's form This is a formal show.
- 2:27God Dang it. Not anymore.
- 2:31He was wearing a syndicate shirt.
- 2:33Oh, white beater night. There we go.
- 2:36Now we're really classy I. Keep it formal for the open
- 2:39report man. That's right, tonight.
- 2:43I knocked over a plant and it made the goodness great.
- 2:47I'm going to hear about that later, sorry.
- 2:51Leslie, you didn't hear that. I did want to say, before we
- 2:54move away from frogs, I got to get Jay's beard guy.
- 2:58Jay Crouch's beard guy. He's got a good beard.
- 3:00You. Guys.
- 3:01Australia, I think is kind of how it works.
- 3:04Bailey Martin also has a good beard so it might be they might
- 3:07go to the same beard guy it. Could be it could be.
- 3:10I think you should just grow yours out, Tyler.
- 3:12Just keep going. Yeah, I saw a lot of people on
- 3:14your on the in the comments down there that they were, they were
- 3:17impressed by your just, I don't know, manliness.
- 3:20I don't know if that's what lack of.
- 3:23Taking care of my face. Yeah, yeah.
- 3:26Just makes you look a little, you know, a little tougher,
- 3:28maybe older. Yeah, Yeah.
- 3:31Compared to what you were three years ago, it's quite the
- 3:34transition. That's the Tyler that I love.
- 3:36I love the emo Tyler. Long hair.
- 3:39Long wimpy hair. Yeah, that was good.
- 3:41Emo Tyler's never dead, he just aged up.
- 3:46You do seem like like that's not the same person.
- 3:50Yeah, it'd be amazing to put two of those side by side and be
- 3:53like, do you recognize these people?
- 3:55No, no. I don't recognize.
- 3:59Him. So we'll go through the open
- 4:00report. Tyler's going to go as much as
- 4:02he wanted to in his 11 minute video to go into the details.
- 4:06He didn't want to bore all the people, so we'll bore you guys
- 4:11with some more detail. There's some good stuff in there
- 4:14that I really wanted to get into that it's just like it does not
- 4:17fit in a 10 minute video. I do want to talk about like the
- 4:22main bit though. Yeah, that's OK.
- 4:27Sure. And then we'll go into some
- 4:28leadership. I think that's Will Morad, WFP
- 4:32where all that stands, leadership, blind rankings and
- 4:37then hey, typically Wadapalooza would be three weeks behind us,
- 4:42but we're four weeks away from six Water Blues and the workouts
- 4:49are starting to come out. So we'll take a quick look at
- 4:50that. But first, but first, fewer
- 4:55comments. Got a new guest on the show.
- 5:00I want to read some some viewer comments.
- 5:04Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi.
- 5:06No, no, Dang. Sorry.
- 5:11I guess you just find out. I think you'll like it.
- 5:16So let's get going. Here we go.
- 5:20Lil Wayne here, I'm going to read some comments from last
- 5:22week. You feel me?
- 5:24OK, here we go. First one is from at Tanner
- 5:28Powell. Can we all disagree?
- 5:30Tyler's wife is way better than Tyler at this.
- 5:35If you missed it, Tyler Tyler's wife Jeanette was on the show
- 5:37last week. Everything CrossFit.
- 5:40Medical Society. And fitness.
- 5:43She's better at everything than me.
- 5:45You should wait till her open report comes out.
- 5:50That's a. That's a close.
- 5:51Report Yeah, open and closed. Yeah, so maybe we'll invite her
- 5:56back whenever you can't make it. Let's see what else Lil Wayne
- 6:00has got to say all. Right, this next one is cool at
- 6:04Han Solo Wade. I'm using blind rankings as an
- 6:07icebreaker activity for a ten person team at work.
- 6:10Might get a little hairy with that number.
- 6:12Any ideas for topics? I'm thinking types of food,
- 6:16burgers, pizza, fried chicken. Any idea what?
- 6:22Do you think? Did you add fried chicken or was
- 6:25that in the in the? Comments.
- 6:26That was in the comments. It just fits.
- 6:32Hey Lil Wayne, man, He just reads the script like he just
- 6:35reads it. Whatever the whatever the
- 6:37comments that he reads. Just get anything anybody's
- 6:40passionate about. Movies are a good one.
- 6:42I would say countries. Let's.
- 6:47Let's figure out who people are. Well, I'm curious what the what
- 6:50the? Who are you?
- 6:52What? Yeah.
- 6:52What job? Like what?
- 6:53What industry is this? Like, if you guys are like geeky
- 6:58tech nerds, you could be like, what's your favorite Windows
- 7:01year? I'm sure somebody would like get
- 7:05really excited about that. What's your favorite letter in
- 7:07Zuckerberg? Z.
- 7:09There's obviously there's plenty of the.
- 7:12Nerds would like R. Yeah.
- 7:15So, yeah, I, you know, you got to get creative.
- 7:18You got to get something that everybody's going to know and
- 7:21can weigh in. The worst blind rankings that we
- 7:23have done is when John doesn't eat like desserts.
- 7:29Really. Like those were the terrible
- 7:30ones. Like, oh.
- 7:31I don't know. Dessert, some food.
- 7:33Yeah. I don't eat any of that stuff.
- 7:35So people don't have an opinion, they just they're out.
- 7:38Yeah. So it's got to be something.
- 7:39Try to relate something to your work.
- 7:41I think that's the best way. Countries.
- 7:45Or countries if you run out of ideas.
- 7:46Just do countries. Like Tyler, in your opinion,
- 7:49what is the worst country? Somalia, I didn't give the time.
- 7:55Thought that that I would want to.
- 7:57I wouldn't want to mess that up. I know you hate Brazil.
- 7:59No, I don't hate Brazil. You were telling me how
- 8:02Brazilians are freaking. Never mind, go ahead.
- 8:06Wait, what's the? What's the?
- 8:08What do you think? North Korea is pretty bad,
- 8:12maybe. Hey they they published a public
- 8:16survey and their people love it. I'm sure.
- 8:19I'm sure they do. I'm ashamed to say I've never
- 8:22done blind rankings. We usually once every two weeks
- 8:25we have, you know, one of those team meetings because
- 8:27everybody's remote and I've never done blind rankings.
- 8:32So I got to. I got to do that.
- 8:34There you go. That that becomes the icebreaker
- 8:37of the future. Yeah.
- 8:38So, Kenneth, the lap, why are these videos not on the
- 8:43channel's page? Because nobody would watch them.
- 8:48What videos? If I if I made if I made Lil
- 8:52Wayne public, I don't think it would really.
- 8:55I don't think it would get much traction.
- 8:57And then once your video start getting much traction.
- 9:00You can subscribe to our monthly our monthly subscription you get
- 9:05access. I can put it behind in the
- 9:07members only. Members only.
- 9:09Yeah, and then the diehards could get it.
- 9:12That'd be that'd be worth the the the subscription that you
- 9:14pay you you get access to the viewer comments.
- 9:18Definite value. Yeah, I'll do that.
- 9:22Here we go, up next. Damn spin you messed up at Jane
- 9:28E net C correction for spend. No, Cal Classic does have invite
- 9:33spots still available for the elite without having to do the
- 9:36NCC qualifier. That so I got I got blasted on
- 9:42this one. You're talking about the nor Cal
- 9:44classic. It's already over.
- 9:45No, there you got 15 invites from the quarterfinals.
- 9:49Yeah, but it's not the top 15. It's invites from the
- 9:54quarterfinals. So don't think you're going to
- 9:57get in if you're top 15 because they may have favorites.
- 10:01I don't know how they're going to do it so.
- 10:04Do you think if Tyler made it they didn't bite him?
- 10:06Yep, 100% for sure. I'd like to think some somebody
- 10:12would. I'd have to.
- 10:13I'd have to decline. He'll be at Syndicate have to
- 10:17just. What if?
- 10:19What if Wilson offered it to you?
- 10:21I think Wilson would do me that solid if I qualified for Norcal.
- 10:24I think he would give me AI mean.
- 10:26There's a, it's a straight up to your top.
- 10:28I guess it's going to be like the top 30 or so.
- 10:31You're going to get an invite in the world, so.
- 10:34We're playing big what ifs here. No, I'm thinking, I know, I
- 10:38think just top 2000. Like if you just make it like
- 10:42you can do it. I think he would I.
- 10:45Think oh I can do it, I could do any event that they program,
- 10:48just not fast. Yeah, yeah.
- 10:52Just talk to, you'd be. Better than kale?
- 10:57True. He's coming back.
- 10:59He's coming out of retirement. How do we know?
- 11:03I'll show you after the viewer comments.
- 11:04All right, Yeah, all. Right, Lil Wayne, take it away.
- 11:07Hey. Spin told me not to do this, but
- 11:12I do want. I want.
- 11:13I'm Lil Wayne Dog. At banana dance man.
- 11:16OK here we go one bro take a stats class 50% athletes only do
- 11:22one open. 80% improve. That improvement data is fire
- 11:26hot garbage when the population changes so much. 2 The open is
- 11:30getting older. Mine is cool but this is useless
- 11:33without knowing CF membership data. 3 The open was big because
- 11:38a giant apparel company called Reebok spent 8 figs a year to
- 11:41make CF big. The health pivot was a gigantic
- 11:44blunder and CF will keep shrinking till this is
- 11:47rectified. Good effort though.
- 11:51Good effort buddy. Dude, why does banana dance man
- 11:56hate you? Pete, I don't even want to give
- 12:00him the time of day, really. He's so freaking annoyed, like
- 12:05he's number one of the 50 and the 50 percent, 80%.
- 12:08Like without the data from members or memberships data, how
- 12:11the hell do you expect I get the membership data from every
- 12:15CrossFit gym in the world? Like it's not going to happen #2
- 12:20you're wrong. Like that.
- 12:22Fifty, like that 50% is a good number to have.
- 12:26And then the improvement data, like I did some combing to get
- 12:30to that number. I understand like how how easy
- 12:33it would be to shoot through holes through like if I just
- 12:35come out and like I looked at every single person in the open,
- 12:38well, 50% of them don't do it. They, there's no data that's
- 12:41useful. I had you had to do at least two
- 12:45opens to even qualify to use that data or to be involved in
- 12:49that data. So I'm, I'm talking about
- 12:50Crossfitters only. He's just like, he's stuck on
- 12:54this Reebok thing and it's like he's like, Crossfit's only a
- 12:59thing because of Reebok. It's like anytime anybody says
- 13:02anything, he's like, you know, Crossfit's only a thing because
- 13:04Reebok and it's like just shut up.
- 13:07It's not. Also, I'm not a believer in that
- 13:10theory. I think Reebok definitely
- 13:12helped. By all means, I'm not taking any
- 13:14of that credit away, but I think we were definitely on an uphill
- 13:18climb without them in the first place, so.
- 13:22I would argue that. I would argue that Reebok set us
- 13:25up for failure after their contract expired.
- 13:29Yes. Because we grew too fast and
- 13:34then it and then you're left with trying to figure out what
- 13:36to do. I think this guy got fired and
- 13:41he's from Reebok. He's got fired from, I think if
- 13:45he didn't work for CrossFit, he's kind of preposition that he
- 13:49has. He hasn't, like directly said, I
- 13:52work for CrossFit, but he acts like he has.
- 13:54Yeah. And if he hasn't, like he's a
- 13:57super jerk. And I, I, I think he's a nothing
- 14:00burger man and you can take that with however you want.
- 14:04Tyler Tyler gets all fired up. So I had to.
- 14:06I had to have Lil Wayne. It's OK, Tyler.
- 14:10I mean, we all can't have the glorious stats that Halpin has,
- 14:14OK? He's been doing this for years.
- 14:18If you ever need any help, like he's always out there man.
- 14:22I'm calling you banana dance man is just like he got me so pissed
- 14:27like I went I I like was like I'm gonna battle with you and.
- 14:32We call him BDM. BDM after after I got to that
- 14:36point of like, I'm just going to sit here and argue with you.
- 14:38I then went into I'm just going to say something ridiculous so
- 14:42this all stops. Like that's how pissed I got.
- 14:44Like I'm done talking to you. I'm just going to tell some
- 14:47weird algo allegorical story that does have meaning, but I
- 14:51know you won't understand because you don't understand
- 14:53stats it either. And then we're just going to
- 14:55move on. Peanuts.
- 14:56Butter. Yeah.
- 14:58Yeah. I figured that was a good one to
- 15:03get you started. And last one.
- 15:05So many comments this week, keep them coming.
- 15:08And while you're at it, subscribe to this channel.
- 15:10This is the last time. Well technically two of them
- 15:12from the same dude at TJ. You want participation then the
- 15:16open needs to be free. What's my $20.00?
- 15:19I see no return for the $20 and the second one.
- 15:23The average Crossfitter who works out 5-6 days a week at
- 15:26their box has no change of ever getting to the games unless they
- 15:30become professionals and CrossFit becomes their job with
- 15:33sponsors and training. The professional aspect has
- 15:36ruined CrossFit and the games for most whoever participated.
- 15:40That's it, I'm out. But I'll leave you with this
- 15:43real G's move in silence, like lasagna.
- 15:46That's. Right.
- 15:48Like lasagna? That's right.
- 15:51Wrong on both accounts. I the two should be free.
- 15:54Just give it, give it away the free, give it, give it.
- 15:56That person voted for Bernie Sanders.
- 15:59I, I mean, it's an interesting idea to play with.
- 16:02Like could you get the open to the point where it's like, hey,
- 16:06it's just free to sign up? I think actually the $20
- 16:10probably boosts participation more than it hinders it.
- 16:12I think if it's free, people are just be like, well, I'm not
- 16:15going to sign up because it. Like it's what's the point?
- 16:17What's the point? Yeah, I'd be willing to bet if
- 16:19it was free, the numbers would be very similar like like then
- 16:23it like $20 versus versus free, like just very similar, right.
- 16:31So if 300,000 people do the open and it's $20 a pop, that's $6
- 16:37million that you did not get just to see that it was the
- 16:43same. The the the athletes the
- 16:48professionalization of the athletes killing the the
- 16:51CrossFit. It's the progress, the progress
- 16:53of a regular gym goer. Yeah, it's not.
- 16:56That's not true either. Like, I actually think, I think
- 16:59it was like you could color what I said in the video as like he
- 17:03doesn't like the elite athletes. And it's like, no, that's that's
- 17:06not what I mean. They've become too
- 17:09unapproachable. Or, and we've talked about this
- 17:12before, right? Because too.
- 17:14Too. Too unattainable.
- 17:15Yeah, they're too unattainable. Like you were like a lot of
- 17:18college guys that were just looking and guys were like maybe
- 17:23were like X college sports guys, right?
- 17:25XD One guys, you see you are looking for something to do.
- 17:29You're kind of lost. You love being fit.
- 17:32You're just kind of working out aimlessly.
- 17:33And then you see this dude on ESPN who's the fittest man in
- 17:36the world and you're like, I can, I can do that, right?
- 17:40Like, I think that reached so many people and now they're
- 17:46like, I can't do that. Right.
- 17:49Like like that's. Too hard.
- 17:51I mean, I know what I started. I was like, oh, there's only
- 17:5226,000 doing the open. Yeah, I got a shot and there's
- 17:57zero chance I was even close. I know Tyler had a similar
- 18:00story. He was going to sneak up on
- 18:01everybody the year, too. Still, I'm still sneaking.
- 18:06They know about you now. See me coming?
- 18:09Damn. So no, I don't, Yeah, I don't
- 18:12think you come in now and think you have any chance of being
- 18:17something without 3-4 years of dedication.
- 18:22Working there, yeah. Like, I mean, even then you look
- 18:26at a guy like Ilya Moskalinko, like he's been in CrossFit for
- 18:31three years and like started it for three years, but came and
- 18:36he's barely into semi finals and he has a 350 snatch and a 4:40
- 18:43cleaning jerk. So like if you're not coming in
- 18:45with that, which you're, you're not like no, no, nobody is
- 18:50right, Right. That's what three years gets you
- 18:56to that spot. Like with that, right, Like it's
- 19:01and and I and that's a tough sell.
- 19:03That's a tough sell because I think a lot of, and I, I can't
- 19:07speak for women, but I think a lot of guys got into it for that
- 19:11reason because they thought they could do something that was
- 19:14bigger than what they currently are.
- 19:16And it and it and it was a dream, but it like you can see
- 19:21it. It was my.
- 19:22Dream. It was somewhat attainable.
- 19:24Somewhat. Even if it wasn't, it looked
- 19:27like it was, right? Right?
- 19:29And now, and now it's, and now it.
- 19:31It looks unattainable. And it really, really, really
- 19:33is. Right, like you imagine looking
- 19:36and if you were 22 years old and you graduate college and you're
- 19:42I don't know, you're a football player, right, like you're a
- 19:45safety or. You know, running defensive end.
- 19:49Yeah, you're like, yeah, I'm going to.
- 19:51Let's check out this CrossFit. You look at Jason Hop and you're
- 19:54like. I can do that, No.
- 19:56Yeah. No, not anymore.
- 19:59But like and and I mean I think that attributes to a little bit
- 20:04of the drop off from the open report.
- 20:05I don't want to segue too soon, but the the biggest drop off was
- 20:11in that 25 to 33 year old category, right and?
- 20:18I think I think that contributes to that somewhat.
- 20:21When we get to that part of the report, remind me of that
- 20:25because it it's crazy how much it overlaps.
- 20:29Yeah, the end I, I will say it's not, it's not, it's, it's, it's,
- 20:34it's a really hard thing to think about because it's not
- 20:37worthless. Like if you had a, if you were
- 20:39an ex, do you want an athlete like, like you're going to get
- 20:42stuff a lot quicker than most people, right?
- 20:44And you could make it. It's just not going to be in a
- 20:47year or two. It's going to be, it's going to
- 20:50be in five. Yeah, right.
- 20:52Yeah, like the two the year two or three, you're going to be
- 20:54hopefully sniffing semifinals, but you're going to be in 20 to
- 20:5830th. Abigail's getting loud.
- 21:02She's getting her lungs on her now.
- 21:08Like, yeah, you're, you have to know you're going to put in
- 21:11years and years of work. And he may turn in to be
- 21:13Moskalenko, where you're just making the semifinals.
- 21:17Like that's a lot of time to be dedicating yourself to get there
- 21:23if you're really trying to be the best, right?
- 21:27And you don't know if you'll be the best ever, right?
- 21:30So let me pull up Mr. Kale. Oh, Kale, almost Kale.
- 21:38Lemon's a comeback. The comeback.
- 21:40He started following me. I think it was last night or the
- 21:42night before. He's back, baby.
- 21:44Yeah, and he's got swag now. Two weeks, 2 days.
- 21:49Is this, is this the real him? It looks like it, doesn't it?
- 21:53Dude this is insane. Like if.
- 21:56He's following Morning Chalk Out, World Fitness, project
- 21:58Killer and Me. I don't think.
- 21:59I don't think it's the real him. Then I don't.
- 22:02What do you mean? That seems like a good for
- 22:05people to start. Following.
- 22:05I don't think he would follow you guys.
- 22:09I think he would. Dude, he was going to do the
- 22:11Hiller. He was going to do a show with
- 22:12Hiller. Yeah, and then ghosted him.
- 22:16Well, things got rough last year.
- 22:17Hey, I don't, I know. New year, new man.
- 22:20This is his same Instagram profile or is it?
- 22:23A different 10. It's definitely his.
- 22:25It says Kale Layman. It doesn't.
- 22:26It's not like Lael Cayman. Click on his Click on his his
- 22:31post. LAEL, Cayman.
- 22:33Look, look at him, that's a good looking dude.
- 22:35The effect of modification of heat shock temperature as
- 22:39standard transformation efficiency.
- 22:43Look. He came back in September for
- 22:45those who weren't ready for the sudden departure.
- 22:48Go to the next one. I am not retiring Sam Dancers on
- 22:56it. But.
- 23:00I don't think this is him. Two weeks, 2 days.
- 23:04'Cause he doesn't post like this, like this stuff.
- 23:07It's a new year, man. Post what words on a black
- 23:11background? Yes, yes.
- 23:12Look, he has he has a video from covering CrossFit that he left
- 23:18tagged and he left this one. Men, do you think could
- 23:23potentially win it? 3 or 4 this is.
- 23:26His Is Dalen a threat? Dalen is a threat.
- 23:28Justin yes. James.
- 23:32Yes, Ricky. No.
- 23:36Is is Jeff a threat then? Jeff is a threat, yes.
- 23:40What about Roman? I think Roman, dude, all these
- 23:44guys have potential and like I said, I think everybody.
- 23:47These guys that's no What about Kane Lehman is?
- 23:52He going to do the open? He's just a threat in the open.
- 23:54Yeah, he's a threat in the first three weeks, but he just tends
- 23:57to fall away. How many men do you think could
- 24:01potentially win it? Jason backpedaled.
- 24:04So yeah. All right, well, you guys can
- 24:07believe what you want. On this is that that was his
- 24:09that was his little instead of like Hopper, how he has his
- 24:11little folder of hate on his phone.
- 24:14Yeah, the tags, the tag tab on Instagram is his hate folder.
- 24:19We'll see. I don't think it's him.
- 24:22It's definitely great. Great.
- 24:25It'd be the greatest troll of all time that you pulled up.
- 24:28I don't know. See.
- 24:29Look great. It was right here.
- 24:30You aren't him, can't be Grant unless you think Grant would
- 24:36comment on his own post. Play in the big game.
- 24:39That's smart, Grant. I just, if it is him and he just
- 24:46and he's like top ten in the open.
- 24:47Oh my God. You imagine if he beats if he
- 24:53beats Hopper by one spot, it would.
- 24:54Just it would just be hilarity at that point 'cause it would
- 24:57piss the elite athletes off, right?
- 24:59Like, like at this point it would be like, dude, what do we
- 25:02do? What do we do?
- 25:04What what he should do, what what he should do is wait until
- 25:07Hopper posts and posts one Rep better than him in every workout
- 25:11just to beat him by one spot. I can't.
- 25:15I can't no video proof. No, no, you don't have to do a
- 25:18video. It's not a, it's not an
- 25:19affiliate. Just mess with it, that'd be
- 25:21great. What's insane is he doesn't need
- 25:24video proof and his score stands with 0 video proof.
- 25:29My workout was live on your channel and we got took to 0.
- 25:36How does that make sense? How does it make sense, Finn?
- 25:41It was modified you. You they said my video was
- 25:44modified and we did it live and that got taken down.
- 25:51What? You were a target.
- 25:53They were. They were targeting you, John.
- 25:54Yeah, but I just how like take me there.
- 25:58How do we, how and his scores stand?
- 26:06There was no video. Nobody.
- 26:07I'm. Like right you, you screwed up
- 26:09in that. There was video, John.
- 26:13With no quarterfinals, no advancement to semifinals, Newt,
- 26:17you're gone. Insane, insane.
- 26:22Can you, can you, can we just for a second acknowledge that?
- 26:24That's insane. It is insane.
- 26:26It's so great though. I felt so bad for you when it
- 26:30happened because I was like, that's just not OK.
- 26:34But like when you like whatever I what for whatever reason, but
- 26:40when you retroactively looked at his scores count, right?
- 26:44And we know you didn't do it. But he's an affiliate.
- 26:50He's an affiliate. It's all verified.
- 26:53It's fine. Yeah, so I who am I to say?
- 26:58All right, the open report. Let's see.
- 27:03Let me let me pull it up here, I think.
- 27:06Our comments are frozen. Yeah, the the comments on Stream
- 27:10Yard have been getting bad. We have to find a new solution
- 27:14here soon. First off, go to our website, go
- 27:20sign up for the newsletter. It's the only free one out there
- 27:23that's sent to you five days a week.
- 27:26Other ones are behind the paywall now.
- 27:27So go sign up, go do that, and then you can click on the open
- 27:31report. And so, Tyler, first of all,
- 27:36before we get into the actual info, what made you want to
- 27:43spend a week pulling data? I've been thinking, I think I
- 27:48thought about doing this the past three years.
- 27:50And by the time I usually would like think about it like
- 27:53basically as the open started and I'm like, it's too late.
- 27:55Like if I come out with the report now, it's just like it's
- 27:58a miss. I knew it had to come out
- 28:00before, before the open started. But what finally, like, pushed
- 28:07me over the edge was like, I had seen the state of the OR state
- 28:11of the industry report and it like rang a bell.
- 28:16And I was like, oh, yeah, I need to try to do this.
- 28:19And so I reached out to a couple of friends that I knew might
- 28:24have scrapers because I didn't know how to build a scraper by
- 28:26myself. And then Barclay sent me one.
- 28:29Oh, not Michael. Michael no.
- 28:34Oh, that would have been a good one.
- 28:36Barclay sent me his and then I I read up on a little bit on how
- 28:41to code and I changed it to what I needed and then I just started
- 28:45pulling. But yeah, like, to me, CrossFit
- 28:50should have used data like this to inform what they were going
- 28:55to do on the next year. And I think like.
- 28:58You don't think they were? No, I actually know that they
- 29:03haven't been, No. OK.
- 29:06I think that they look, I think so as I went through this
- 29:09analysis and thought about all these issues, they're definitely
- 29:12looking at totals. I think that's as deep as
- 29:15they're going, but they're not using like, you know?
- 29:18I think they got the, I think they have like retention rate,
- 29:21yeah. I I do I have an ex insider who
- 29:27used to give this information and he did it on his own and it
- 29:33was just trashed like it was never utilized so it's.
- 29:37Helpful. Yeah.
- 29:39OK. So yeah, you started, you
- 29:42started pulling, pulling this data.
- 29:44Look, you can click right there King Kong then yeah, I click
- 29:48that and it goes straight to 10% off.
- 29:53So the open port before you can watch it over 6000 of you guys
- 29:56have, but we appreciate it. Yeah, as we go through see 15
- 30:02years of grit, 1.63 million people have done the open,
- 30:07235,000 last year and 57% CFI DS in the open.
- 30:15Before we do that, there's money here.
- 30:17So Chattanoofi 999. Thank you.
- 30:20Tyler, does your wife know if there's any availability at the
- 30:22San Diego CrossFit Medical Society event February 21st to
- 30:2722nd? No, but you can reach out to the
- 30:30CrossFit Medical Society. They'll be able to tell you.
- 30:36That's super helpful. His wife might know.
- 30:38Tyler doesn't know. No, I don't think she does.
- 30:41She just, she writes and and works on stuff for them, but she
- 30:43doesn't. She's not organizing any of that
- 30:45stuff. There's over.
- 30:48Did you know there's over 80 comments on your video?
- 30:51Yeah. I was looking against the other
- 30:53videos and I was like, OK, so this one, I, you know, when I
- 30:57come out with this, it was like, I I spent.
- 31:03She's so nice. Yeah, she's great.
- 31:06I spent four months doing this and this is.
- 31:10You could have done it in a couple days.
- 31:12I could have done it in a couple days.
- 31:13It's. Crazy.
- 31:16I it was nights and weekends and it wasn't like every night and
- 31:19weekend. It was just nights here and
- 31:20there when I could swing it. But oh shit, where was I going
- 31:25with that? The I that was the first metric.
- 31:29I thought I was like, how many people have done the open ever,
- 31:33ever. We we never talked about this
- 31:35and like 1,000,000 people doing the open is like a huge thing
- 31:39that we should have talked about a long time ago.
- 31:41It's like. It should have been a it should
- 31:43have been a big like celebration.
- 31:44Yeah, I mean, like McDonald's has it on their fucking sign.
- 31:47Yeah, like 1 billion burgers sold or whatever.
- 31:50Yeah, I know. No, there should have been a
- 31:51countdown. I I seriously like a like a
- 31:54countdown clock on their site. Like I think would have been
- 31:56insane. Speaking of countdown, I'm
- 31:58gonna, I'm gonna take a tangent. How cool would it be if the
- 32:02CrossFit Games website, you go to CrossFit and it was counting
- 32:06up in real time? So in like 100,863 people have
- 32:13signed up for the 2026 open. Join them.
- 32:15Yeah, and there's a link to register and the next time you
- 32:19go it says 102,000. Right.
- 32:22And you can play like that. It's like the debt clock.
- 32:25The Facebook movie wherever they keep refreshing to hit 1,000,000
- 32:28people and then you that can be Dave Castro just refreshing,
- 32:33right? One millionth sign up get some
- 32:36sort of or you know, set a #200,000 sign up gets dude gets
- 32:40an F-150 or something like that. That would be so fun.
- 32:44I honestly it's not I, I maybe not an F1, a free L1.
- 32:48No F-150. LL150.
- 32:54Speaking of that, like I'm I'm similar.
- 32:57Level 4. Yeah, I'm semi proud of like my
- 33:01my CrossFit ID number, like how low it is and it's like.
- 33:04Mine's lower. Yeah, yours is so much slower.
- 33:07What's your ID number? Mine or spins.
- 33:13See here. How do you know?
- 33:15It's on your CrossFit app. 4451. 4451.
- 33:21Nice man. He goes back to like.
- 33:23Holy cow, I I looked up the first, the first and last, so
- 33:32through 2025, the first and last CrossFit ID #SO00001 and then
- 33:38just. Kidding.
- 33:38Who was the first person? I had that name somewhere.
- 33:42I'm going to have to pull up all my sheets.
- 33:46Is an Asian lady. She's a photographer.
- 33:48I reached out to her, she never got back to me.
- 33:51I don't Josh Everett's. Wife Lin Lin Yi Lin from China.
- 33:55CrossFit. Jakarhu.
- 33:57Yakarhu. Jakarhu.
- 33:59I know that place. But what's weird is her open is
- 34:02only in 2017 and 2018 stats so I don't know what's going on.
- 34:06Yeah. She hacked in.
- 34:08Yeah, but with the CrossFit ID thing, so and I don't, I've
- 34:15asked about this, I've not got any pushback on it.
- 34:18So if I'm incorrect, like this is a hole in the report.
- 34:22But I thought about like you're only given a CrossFit ID if you
- 34:27do a level 1, you sign up for the open or you do some sort of
- 34:30training courses. They used to, you know, all the
- 34:32training courses they used to have, you know, CrossFit,
- 34:37football, gymnastics, endurance, all of those right.
- 34:41So I wanted to know how many people have not done or have not
- 34:46done the open that had I DS and it was what it's 43% of people
- 34:54had never done the open that. I DS that's surprising.
- 34:57Yeah. I've never heard of this person.
- 35:00This is number 10 system. Test.
- 35:05What, what, What is your number? Tyler?
- 35:10Sorry, I got a pretty low number too.
- 35:13It's it's it's lower than spins. No, it ain't.
- 35:16Yeah, No, it ain't. It says CFID number 1530.
- 35:23There's no way. I I'm just telling you what it.
- 35:26Says what year did you start? Like 2010.
- 35:30You started in 2010. Yeah, I was 16.
- 35:36Really. No.
- 35:38God, he's just screwing with me. No, I'm 683,000.
- 35:44You're way down there. Let's see, I actually don't know
- 35:47how to work. They've updated the app athlete
- 35:49profile. I'm pretty close to the
- 35:50millionth person. We are currently experiencing
- 35:52technical difficulties so I can't figure it out via the app.
- 35:57I'm using the app. That's because so many people
- 35:59are signed on. I think it's like I was
- 36:01somewhere around 40,000 or something like that.
- 36:04They're 40,000. Something like that.
- 36:06Wow, how am I 683,000 then? 'Cause you signed up in like
- 36:12what, 18? 16.
- 36:14Yeah, I mean, dude, that's at the peak.
- 36:16That's coming near the peak. I guess I'm after the big 1415.
- 36:21Swing, yeah. 16 Boom, yeah. So that was, that was impressive
- 36:26to me. I would love to know if that
- 36:28number is actually wrong and in like I'll I'll call it out.
- 36:31It might be wrong, but I don't I don't think it is.
- 36:34I haven't gotten any pushback that it is wrong.
- 36:37Just -1 for the system test. And then of course, the chart
- 36:45we've all seen is the open participation, you know, and I
- 36:47broke it up in men and women and total.
- 36:51I like that the, the men and women do seem to, to model each
- 36:54other. There seems to be like a pretty
- 36:55consistent distance between them.
- 36:59And then like I didn't realize how high we had actually gotten
- 37:03in 2024 in relation to the to the peak like we were.
- 37:08Dude, we're on the way. On the way.
- 37:09Back because I. Mean, I remember like in
- 37:1124/23/24, they had like a, a growth goal, yeah, 5% or
- 37:18something like that. They were trying to grow or 10%,
- 37:20something like that. We fell just short.
- 37:23But no, it was, relatively speaking, it was making a pretty
- 37:28good comeback. Yeah, I mean, it's been a roller
- 37:30coaster. It's been a very consistent
- 37:32roller coaster where like it builds and then there's
- 37:35something crazy happens and it drops, but then it just kind of
- 37:38builds year over year, and then something crazy happened again
- 37:41and it dropped. And what's going to happen this
- 37:43year? It's going to be a little bit
- 37:44bigger than last year. Yeah, the next year's going to
- 37:47be a little bit bigger than last year.
- 37:48And if we could just please, for the love of God, not have
- 37:53something crazy happen, it would keep on going.
- 37:59It should. And then the question a lot of
- 38:02people ask is like returning versus new athlete data.
- 38:06You can see the new athletes have I've started to that's
- 38:09really started to take a. Hit 2020 is crazy, yeah.
- 38:13How many? Look, look, I mean, I Greg
- 38:15killed the media and then Dave killed Lazar.
- 38:17If we could just stop killing things, it'll keep growing.
- 38:23And that's that's what really rang rang for me about how bad
- 38:272025 was is like we basically matched a pandemic in how bad we
- 38:33took a hit. I mean like the.
- 38:35Well, no, 20/20/2020. 20 was before the pandemic. 2020 was
- 38:40the October 2019 open, so it was the second.
- 38:44It was the second open in the. Year, yes, Yeah.
- 38:47So we're worse. Than a pandemic.
- 38:49That was when they, they killed the media in 2018 after the
- 38:53games 2019, the, the Open was right in the middle of all of
- 38:57the different sanctionals. And then they had this idea of
- 39:00let's do the the open before all these sanctionals start to make
- 39:05it easier to follow. Let's just do it in October.
- 39:10Like there's so many things going on in October.
- 39:13That was just a disaster on top of being the second open in a
- 39:17year. And you read some of the
- 39:18comments on on your video and they're like an annual checkup's
- 39:22not enough. You got to do it twice or 4 * a
- 39:24year. No, no.
- 39:26That's what your affiliate is for.
- 39:28The open is for the worldwide check.
- 39:31But nobody wanted to do it again in October.
- 39:34Kids are going back to school. You already did it right.
- 39:37There's college football starting.
- 39:39There's so many things going on in that time frame that it was
- 39:42just a disaster. Right, the Open really is.
- 39:46It's perfect time. To and and nobody, everybody
- 39:48started questioning like, what is this?
- 39:50Like why do we change? Like now we have no media.
- 39:55Like there was none. I don't even think they had the
- 39:57social like media. Stuff they shut up at that.
- 39:59Point, yeah, like they had archived everything, so there's
- 40:03nothing pushing it, there's nobody pushing it.
- 40:06And so yeah, like nobody knew was signing up.
- 40:10I can't remember what the name of that guy was that like
- 40:13basically talked Greg into all that stuff.
- 40:15Savon talks about him from time to time, but he was the main
- 40:19driver behind all these stupid, stupid initiatives.
- 40:24I do not understand how he thought that that was going to
- 40:26play out. Yeah, it was bad.
- 40:29Anyway, it was bad. I know the comments are frozen
- 40:32right now, but a lot of people are trying to find out cross
- 40:35vats ID number and he's he's staying strong cross back.
- 40:40Can you just give us like a a range?
- 40:45Just give us the numbers but in different order.
- 40:47No, no, no, no, no, no, no, like like just give like top 2000.
- 40:52All combinations. Or top 3000 or you know what I
- 40:55mean? Like like just so 'cause he says
- 40:57he has you, you beats, man. I just want to know how far back
- 41:00he goes. Well, there we go.
- 41:02There's only 4400 and. 50 That's that's what I'm saying like like
- 41:05like I just I. I and we know that number one is
- 41:09Yi Lin and #10 is a system test and nothing in between all that
- 41:13all of them in between that are affiliates.
- 41:15Even if you're like 17 like you say like top 1000, I just want
- 41:22and. We will find.
- 41:23You. No, no, no.
- 41:24We're not going to find you. I just want to know how far back
- 41:26you go. Just Jeff Kane was that he was
- 41:31the CEO at the time. It was Jeff Kane.
- 41:34That was a disaster, yeah. Great.
- 41:37CEO should bring him back, yeah. More like Jeff Payne, am I
- 41:43right? Zero to 10,000.
- 41:48Zero to 10,000. OK, the best, the best.
- 41:55This is going to be John's favorite section.
- 41:58I I that means it's going to be my least favorite.
- 42:01Section listen the the rest. This one I struggle.
- 42:03This is the one I struggle with the most.
- 42:05I don't understand why you guys struggle with this.
- 42:07I've not even seen it. What are we talking about?
- 42:10We've already talked about this, John, but so I wanted to look at
- 42:14all the like of all the athletes who have done the Open for every
- 42:19single year, who were the best. Now, of course, like Rich didn't
- 42:24do one year, athletes fall out for different reasons.
- 42:28But it's like to me, you've made it work.
- 42:30You're you've stayed healthy for this long.
- 42:32You've stayed in the sport. Like you're a real model for
- 42:36what CrossFit is at the base level, right?
- 42:38So these are these are athletes that did 15. 15 opens.
- 42:42How many were there do you know? Total athletes I only, I used it
- 42:47to only pull what I exactly what I wanted.
- 42:50So I only wanted the the top five. 1.63 million.
- 42:55Did every open? At how many of them every open?
- 42:58There's not that many. It's it's a crazy low number.
- 43:02Even the plus even the 10 pluses is crazy low.
- 43:06I bet you. Becky Beck and Boyd Miller's
- 43:08one. Of them second right?
- 43:10There second, right there. Second best open athlete of all
- 43:14time. All time.
- 43:16So of course you have Rob Forte. And it was like when I saw it
- 43:19was Rob, I was like, yes, like that dude every single year
- 43:24kills the open. His his average being well, 30
- 43:30is probably the greatest of all time because her average is
- 43:3367th. Her worst is 155th.
- 43:36I mean, look at Rob Forte's worst is 1790.
- 43:39Ninth, like 30, stays. I'll give you 30.
- 43:45I Rob Forte. I don't.
- 43:47Know, I mean, it's, it's easier for women to stay at the top for
- 43:51this type of thing. That's why her numbers are
- 43:54that's why her numbers are like that over over Rob Forte.
- 43:56I mean, I you can say she's the best of all time, but it is
- 43:59easier for women to stay up there than it is for men.
- 44:03Irving was. It was a surprise and not a
- 44:07surprise at the same time if if you know Irving.
- 44:09I'm surprised he's still doing it.
- 44:11Yeah, why? I just, I never hear about him.
- 44:16Like if you still hear about Thurry, right?
- 44:18And Rob's a little bit still in the in there.
- 44:20Obviously Austin's around. Like, I don't know what Irving's
- 44:22doing. He, I mean he did crash like 2
- 44:26years ago or something like that.
- 44:28OK. He still competes, man, He still
- 44:31fit as hell. I just remember him back in the
- 44:34day, like he would crush the open and then he'd be like, oh
- 44:36man, this is his year and then he wouldn't qualify.
- 44:39Dude, think about this. Thurry's worst is higher than
- 44:42Becavoy's average. That's pretty that's that's
- 44:48pretty wild of. Course Ben Smith.
- 44:53Hobart, Hobart. One point behind, one point
- 44:59behind. This is his year, This is his
- 45:00year. He can make it up on the.
- 45:01He can make that average up. He can top five in the world of
- 45:07all time open athlete. That's pretty wild.
- 45:09It's. Impressive, yeah.
- 45:11Becavoy China Cho, I was surprised to see up there and
- 45:15then Ashley Werner had never heard of her.
- 45:18I had to do. Ashley Werner's a beast.
- 45:21Man, do you know who she is? Yeah, she's like the 4th best
- 45:25open athlete of all time. It's.
- 45:28True. You don't know Ashley Werner.
- 45:31She's big and. She's like top 600 every year on
- 45:36average. She does weightlifting meets 2.
- 45:39I had to. I had to look hard to find a
- 45:43good picture of her. She's to hold an Elsa.
- 45:48She's from Canada. Yep.
- 45:53It's been to the quarterfinals 3 times, 21/22/23, her best finish
- 45:58worldwide in the 2022300 and 4th in the quarterfinals.
- 46:03Made the age group quarterfinals in 22 and 24.
- 46:08Made regionals 5-6 times. Yeah.
- 46:12Semifinals in 2022 in the age group semifinal.
- 46:16Yeah, so shout out to Ashley Werner.
- 46:19I I don't know that she's ever had this much like clout given
- 46:22to her, but this was a big deal. And then Jennifer Smith a a home
- 46:27pick. So I was happy to see Jen had
- 46:29made it up there. And what's crazy is she she had
- 46:34a kid and like, still. Still did it.
- 46:38Still did it. And stealing it on the top five.
- 46:40Yeah, staying still hanging on the top five.
- 46:42But when I was originally texting John and Spin about
- 46:45this, they were like, I don't like it this way.
- 46:48That's true. I'm I'm more on board now after
- 46:51seeing it in like actual data. Yeah, we, I mean, we just, we
- 46:54just have to define what we're talking about, right?
- 46:57I mean if you want to see the best.
- 46:58You're calling them the best open athlete of all time, like
- 47:03you're not saying they're the best at the open, right?
- 47:06They have done all of the if they're the best of the people
- 47:09who have done every single open, that's what you're saying.
- 47:11And that's and that's and I'm totally fine with that.
- 47:14Right. But I did to kind of try to meet
- 47:18you guys halfway. I did the best athletes by era.
- 47:21And this makes so much more sense.
- 47:23The women's is a little bit funky, but it makes a lot more
- 47:26sense. Carolyn Prevo.
- 47:28Yeah, Carolyn Prevo is a bit of a surprise.
- 47:30Yeah, really good. Of course like.
- 47:34South African Crystal Holta down there in 5th.
- 47:40I had to do a little help for Rich because his name changes
- 47:45because I think in the beginning it was Rich frowning and then
- 47:48became Rich frowning Junior or it's vice versa.
- 47:51So I had to like fix his, but everybody else seems to make
- 47:58sense to me. Is Rich the only one that spans
- 48:012 decades or to to Nichols? To Nichols.
- 48:07I think he is if. He is.
- 48:09Congrats, Ritz. That's pretty cool.
- 48:12Yeah, would have been if I don't, I don't.
- 48:15It probably would not have been in this era.
- 48:19That would have been cool. I would have liked to seen where
- 48:21he would have been. I he would have had to have been
- 48:24best overall. He did not done or had he done
- 48:27what was it, 23 or 24? I don't think he did 20.
- 48:32Four, Yeah. Oh, you're saying he would have
- 48:35been over Rob Forte it? Had to have been.
- 48:38Yeah, he had a lot of top 10s. Did he do everyone though?
- 48:41Did he do the one in 2007? I don't think he did.
- 48:43No, there was none in 2007. 11201111 yeah, yeah, I guess he
- 48:48did. I guess he would have, yeah.
- 48:51Yeah. Affiliates Affiliate data was a
- 48:56big deal. It's a lot of numbers.
- 48:59Yeah, the the crazy, the reason I kept that chart in because it
- 49:02is gross to look at was like it kind of gives you an accurate, I
- 49:06think in a pretty accurate count of how many affiliates there
- 49:10actually are. Like how many affiliates do you
- 49:13think don't have at least one representative in the open?
- 49:20I mean, we know the top was what, 15,000 in 2018, right?
- 49:25So this, I guess I'd say 80, I'd say 80%, yeah, it's probably a
- 49:30good approximation. Right.
- 49:32It's like 80% do the do it. So you could say that like 2025
- 49:37there might have been 11 to 12,000.
- 49:42That number might get like the 80% might get closer to 90% as
- 49:47you get less affiliates. Yeah, that's fair.
- 49:54Yeah, the the thing that I think is useful about this for
- 49:58especially for HQ is like if to me the open is the greatest
- 50:04state, it's the like the stock ticker for CrossFit.
- 50:09It's like, it's like the the health marker.
- 50:11Yeah, it's the health marker for CrossFit.
- 50:13And so it's like if you based on how many #1 like how much your
- 50:18affiliates are going up and down, which they track all the
- 50:20time, but how many are like want to be invested in the open.
- 50:24If you're not wanting to be invested in the open, it should
- 50:26be a giant red flag immediately. And then like using that, like I
- 50:30don't have the data on and I don't think anybody has the data
- 50:32besides the HQ on how many affiliates like are leaving
- 50:36after they they aren't represented in the open.
- 50:40Like how long do you have until that happens or how many just
- 50:43exist and don't do the open at all?
- 50:45I would imagine that number super low.
- 50:48So anyway, and then six percent, 6%, John's calling it.
- 50:56Yeah, no, I know it. Yeah.
- 50:58Yeah. Didn't happen.
- 51:01Talk all the time. We're frequent.
- 51:04Good. It's just, yeah, I mean, we have
- 51:07these all the time. That's good.
- 51:09The so the average athletes per affiliate, so how many people at
- 51:14an affiliate are doing the open. So this I talked a little bit
- 51:19with some folks about this one. So this is across all time and
- 51:23the reason I kind of stuck with that is you have the low years
- 51:26of 2011 and then like you went through the peak and then you
- 51:30know you have the current years. I think that you still would
- 51:33have gotten like a pretty good representation.
- 51:37I think this is spot on. It feels.
- 51:40Right, so I, I, I put out a mess.
- 51:43I think it was wooly put out something and said, he said that
- 51:47only like 10 to 15% actually signed up for the open at an
- 51:52affiliate. And so I asked on a story like
- 51:55right after that, what do you think you're, you know,
- 51:59participation is of people that actually pay for the open R in
- 52:03your affiliate? Asked anybody.
- 52:05And I got anywhere from like 5% to 30% on average.
- 52:11And then some of them were like the 5075% range, right?
- 52:16But so many of them were in that 1015, 2020, 5% range that I feel
- 52:20like that 21 percent, 21.9 average when you think about
- 52:26there's 100 to 125 members on an average gym.
- 52:31Dude, I think, I think it's, I think it's very accurate and
- 52:34like I do you have the answer to this question.
- 52:38How many people I not? Often that do the open that
- 52:42aren't affiliated. I bet it's like 30%.
- 52:49I bet it's grown over the years, but I.
- 52:50Don't think it's higher. I don't think it's higher.
- 52:54I can find it. Dude, these sheets are crazy.
- 53:00Keep going. Wait, wait before before we move
- 53:05on from that scroll back up to the the previous slide.
- 53:13So this I kind of wanted to fit people into buckets and see if
- 53:18Jim's into buckets. So it's like if you had one to
- 53:2025 athletes in the open, 26 to 50, and seeing, you know, sort
- 53:26of the distribution of those and it's like it's I did not expect
- 53:31it to be that bottom heavy. Of course, like with the average
- 53:34athletes per affiliate being 21.9, Like, yeah, you can make
- 53:37that inference. But I did not expect like that
- 53:40many gyms to be running just one to 25 athletes.
- 53:44It seems. That seems like I would have
- 53:47liked it to be more like, yeah. I think, I think there's a lot
- 53:50of people that they're, the gyms are running there, you know,
- 53:53Friday Night Lights, but they're not encouraging people to sign
- 53:57up. Right.
- 53:58I would actually argue that there's probably a good amount
- 54:00of members who don't even know that they're supposed to like
- 54:07they, they go to the gym, they don't they've never been to
- 54:09games website. All they know is that their gym
- 54:13is doing some type of intramural Friday night thing for three
- 54:16weeks or four or five weeks back in the day, and you signed up to
- 54:21do it in your gym and you just show up and do your workout.
- 54:26I bet there's a large percentage of people, especially in that
- 54:29white line where the gym, the owner doesn't push it.
- 54:33They just do something for the community.
- 54:35And then a handful of people sign up because they're they're,
- 54:38you know, watching this show. I think there's like 4 at our
- 54:41gym right now 'cause it's there's not a huge push for the
- 54:43open. Dude, there's not a there's not
- 54:46a push at all at my gym and like, but you're not affiliate.
- 54:51No, we're we're we're not affiliated but but like they
- 54:54want to do Friday Night Lights and I'm like, guys, you can't
- 54:59expect it's not going to be like a big showing or anything.
- 55:03Y'all don't promote it like nobody even knows it's coming.
- 55:07It's like 2 1/2 weeks away and nobody knows and that's like and
- 55:11they haven't talked about it at all, not even like 1.
- 55:15The open is coming post and I'm like good like like and then I
- 55:22don't it it blows my mind. It blows my mind how much they
- 55:25don't and I know it's not. I know there's a lot of gyms
- 55:29across the United States like that.
- 55:31Where? Hey, BDMI and John, like I get
- 55:40to that at the end. Like I think I asked spin, I
- 55:44asked everybody. I think I put it in the big
- 55:47group thread. I talked to different, different
- 55:51affiliate owners everywhere and it's like, what is, what is the
- 55:55open? What, why do we do the open?
- 55:57You rally up your, your affiliate members every year,
- 56:02but like you're spending a ton of time and energy to make this
- 56:05work. Like what is really the point of
- 56:07the open? I did not ever feel like the
- 56:09answer of like it's your yearly test of fitness.
- 56:12I didn't feel like it was good enough, not for the
- 56:14participation that we saw in 2018.
- 56:17Like it just that didn't feel right.
- 56:20And so I sort of get down to that at the end of like, it's,
- 56:23it really is your moment and you're stamped to say like, I'm
- 56:26on this ship and like, I believe in this thing.
- 56:31PC If only CrossFit HQ provided marketing materials for
- 56:34affiliates to help promote their event. 2018.
- 56:39I I'm. I think this I think that that
- 56:42response is ridiculous. I'm mixed on, I'm mixed on this.
- 56:45So in one regard I'm like, OK, that's cool.
- 56:49Like you're helping the affiliates like get a jump start
- 56:54or, or like you're giving them something to do.
- 56:59But then it it also reminds me of the office where they're
- 57:02doing that commercial and it's like this stock footage of these
- 57:06random people and they're dancing and this cheesy music.
- 57:10And in the very end, it's just one shot of the guy of the whole
- 57:14like actual office jumping up in the air.
- 57:17And it's like that doesn't sell it on anybody.
- 57:21'Cause that's not. Us yeah, like if you, if you
- 57:24post that video on your affiliate website, it's like,
- 57:28that's not my gym. Those aren't the people I know.
- 57:34Oh, look, it's a picture of my logo.
- 57:35I don't care. Right, right.
- 57:37And so like, yeah, you can use some of that stuff like, yeah,
- 57:40there's posters and stuff you can print out and take to the
- 57:43printer and do it. But for some like you've got to
- 57:47get. I don't, I don't know why, but
- 57:48the affiliate owners, not all of them are bought into actually
- 57:52pushing that on their own. It's because it was never like
- 57:58it is about your affiliate. We do know retention goes up,
- 58:02that if you keep athletes in the open.
- 58:05But like the real thing about it was back in the early years,
- 58:11everybody just believed in CrossFit.
- 58:12It had nothing to do with the open really.
- 58:14It was just belief. Yeah, and I and I'm that's all.
- 58:17And that's a hard sell now. Like like like this better
- 58:22Barbie. Is it better or butter?
- 58:27Whatever. Barbie.
- 58:29Yeah Barbie, the members get the experience prior online so why
- 58:34pay $20? They have 100 members less than
- 58:3720 sign up. They encourage them but why
- 58:39would they like that is the same.
- 58:44I feel like y'all tell it, correct me if I'm wrong.
- 58:46That's the same thing as a person, as an owner being like
- 58:50well what is CrossFit doing for me?
- 58:52So why would I affiliate like why would I pay the $3500 to
- 58:58affiliate if they're not going to give me any like tools to run
- 59:02my gym? And it's it's because you love
- 59:07CrossFit. You want CrossFit to grow.
- 59:09If like it's almost like the community insurance Tyler, like
- 59:12if we are all in on this thing. This will.
- 59:15Work it. Grow everybody.
- 59:17Everybody succeeds. Your gym grows, the sport grows,
- 59:21the company grows. Everything would grow if we all
- 59:26just it. What what does rich say?
- 59:28If we all just got in a room and talked together, everything
- 59:32would grow. But but there's so and I'm
- 59:34sorry, Smith, I know, I know you.
- 59:35I I'm keep on cutting you off. Like there's so many people with
- 59:39that this mindset or just thinking they're too good for
- 59:45CrossFit, I guess, or like they're they don't care about, I
- 59:49don't know, like it growing that that's how things die.
- 59:54What's what's? Sorry, go ahead and spin.
- 59:57I, I liken that comment to like if you go into a coffee shop or
- 1:00:03like I think Panera did it, tried it like years ago where it
- 1:00:08was the honor system. You go in, there's a there's a
- 1:00:11pot of coffee and you pay whatever you feel is, you know,
- 1:00:15worth it or you just like it's on you to pay for it, but you
- 1:00:19can technically walk out for free.
- 1:00:22And how many people walk out for free with their cup of coffee
- 1:00:25thinking it's not a big deal and then six months later, Panera or
- 1:00:30whatever coffee company doesn't. It's like, we can't do this
- 1:00:33because we're losing money. We're going to go out of
- 1:00:35business. If, and it goes back to Lil
- 1:00:39Wayne, that last comment that he read was like, I'm not going to
- 1:00:44pay the $20. What do I get for it?
- 1:00:4850% of that goes to CrossFit. Running CrossFit.
- 1:00:53So $3,000,000 help support the company so that CrossFit is
- 1:00:58still around next year. If we all stop doing that, if we
- 1:01:01all stop taking L ones, if we all stopped paying our affiliate
- 1:01:05fees because we just don't find the value in it, guess what?
- 1:01:09You're going to XYZ Fitness you. There is no CrossFit.
- 1:01:14There is nothing that's tying the community together $20 to
- 1:01:18support the methodology and things that's changed your life
- 1:01:21is pretty cheap for if you're thinking about it for a whole
- 1:01:24year to pay $20. You paid more than $20.00 a
- 1:01:27month for AD free subscriptions Taco.
- 1:01:30Bell. Taco Bell today.
- 1:01:33No, Sean. And I did.
- 1:01:35Dude, Taco Bell's gotten so expensive.
- 1:01:36It's so expensive, dude. McDonald's is the way.
- 1:01:39I had the same amount of food, the same amount of food I get
- 1:01:43for $8 versus $20 a Taco Bell. But like this, this, but like
- 1:01:47spent in like in 2018, there was just such belief in CrossFit,
- 1:01:53the company. Like there wasn't that mindset.
- 1:01:58People just like, yeah, we're doing the open.
- 1:02:00Like, why wouldn't we like it's it's.
- 1:02:03I also think they'll back in 28, there were a bunch of the people
- 1:02:05that felt the same way, like I, I'm not going to pay for it.
- 1:02:08Like why, why do that? And the more I, you know, the
- 1:02:13longer I've been around and the more I think about it, it's like
- 1:02:16$20 a year to support something that has very much likely
- 1:02:22changed your life, like $1.60 a month.
- 1:02:27And if you don't do it, there's a chance that it doesn't go on
- 1:02:32next year. Right, regardless of how you
- 1:02:34feel about the company now. And guess what?
- 1:02:36If if Crossfit's not around and they don't put out three open
- 1:02:39workouts, there's no Friday Night Lights cause your gym's
- 1:02:42not gonna run it. Right.
- 1:02:45But this this comment, my affiliate is brand new, open in
- 1:02:49October. Half the members have never done
- 1:02:51CrossFit before and the owner isn't pushing the open at all
- 1:02:54because it's just trying to get people through the basics.
- 1:02:56They don't know what the games are and they don't know what the
- 1:02:58open is. So my answer to that would be,
- 1:03:02why would you not do the open then to be like, this is our
- 1:03:05baseline. This is where everybody's AT.
- 1:03:08And like if you can't do some of the movements, there's a scaled
- 1:03:11down like you scale the work. Everybody can do foundations.
- 1:03:15Everybody. Everybody, right?
- 1:03:17So like, why would you not get a baseline?
- 1:03:22And then, like right now, it's the perfect time to do the Open
- 1:03:25because then next year you see how much you improved from not
- 1:03:30knowing what CrossFit is to now you're the fittest version
- 1:03:33you've ever been. And what's and what's retention
- 1:03:36like Tyler, when you improve year over year?
- 1:03:39It's like it's well, 80% of people can improve every year.
- 1:03:44Yeah, but didn't you say if you don't improve, you leave?
- 1:03:46Oh yeah, you'll leave. Yeah, 50% of people who don't do
- 1:03:49the open leave. And it's like, we don't know
- 1:03:51what that retention data is like for people who don't do the
- 1:03:53open. But I, I guarantee you it's,
- 1:03:55it's worse than people who push the open every year.
- 1:03:58Dude, the, the gyms that really put a big push behind the open
- 1:04:02every year. I never wanted to leave those
- 1:04:04gyms. I still think about those gyms
- 1:04:05to this day, like CrossFit on the Plains and CrossFit Maximus.
- 1:04:09We talk about them all the time. And before I forget, if you've
- 1:04:15signed up for the Open, go into your competition dashboard, add
- 1:04:18hashtag the barbell spin. I've not looked at that for a
- 1:04:21while. We'll have to be doing the draft
- 1:04:23here very, very soon. Don't miss out SO.
- 1:04:27Make sure you're at it because last year we did the draft and I
- 1:04:29published shoes on every team and then people go, I want to be
- 1:04:32part of this. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:04:34Sign up do. Not delay, sign up.
- 1:04:36#Barbell spin. Hey, spin, can you do a poll?
- 1:04:39Oh man, you don't have to maybe just in the comments and like
- 1:04:45only really comment this if you would really do it.
- 1:04:48I've thought about doing would should we do a like shirts?
- 1:04:53I don't know if that's two weeks away.
- 1:04:54We could just do a pre-order and you just get them.
- 1:04:58Let's see, you want pre-order shirts.
- 1:05:01We'll just do it through Travis. Travis, you got this right.
- 1:05:06By the way, I wanted to answer Summers question about how many
- 1:05:08unaffiliated athletes there are. It hovers so it's been as low
- 1:05:14the data pre 2017 there. Was a poll out there?
- 1:05:17There's a poll out there for you.
- 1:05:18Guys, go vote. Do you want shirts for the
- 1:05:20barbell spin open? We'll figure out how to brand it
- 1:05:24real nice. It's been between 6% and last
- 1:05:29year it was 9, almost 10%. It's been hovering around 10%
- 1:05:34for the last few years. It was 22,000 plus people last
- 1:05:39year were unaffiliated athletes. OK.
- 1:05:44All right. Let's see.
- 1:05:47Continue. Affiliates Number of affiliates
- 1:05:50with 101 plus athletes in the open.
- 1:05:53Yeah, so this there's a big swing in this last year.
- 1:05:57So 295 S look 295 in 2024. So 2024 was a really big year.
- 1:06:04I I did want to get a feel for the juggernaut gyms of like how
- 1:06:07many people are pulling in 100 plus members.
- 1:06:09I didn't go over 100 plus and I kind of wanted to see but the
- 1:06:12numbers just get so low. That's kind of crazy.
- 1:06:15That's over 30,000 of the, what, 350 in 2024?
- 1:06:22Yeah, like that's a very large percentage on a small, small
- 1:06:27fraction of the number of gyms. And then 166 dropped last year
- 1:06:36or did it last year in relation? Yeah, well, there are a lot of
- 1:06:40big, there are a lot of big gyms in Europe that didn't do it,
- 1:06:42Brazil that didn't do it right, for sure.
- 1:06:45That's super alarming. Of course, like CrossFit knows
- 1:06:48about those gyms, I would assume, I would assume they
- 1:06:51would have to be monitoring that.
- 1:06:54And then I have like drop out rate.
- 1:06:55So like, did you, did you not have any athletes in the open
- 1:07:01the following year or the previous year or Yeah, the
- 1:07:04following year? That one really was mostly for
- 1:07:08people like HQ and affiliate members, just to see what those
- 1:07:11dropout rates were. The thing that I wanted to say
- 1:07:13is upward mobility. So this is an ability for a gym
- 1:07:20to grow in membership year to year, and it increased through
- 1:07:27the Rosa era, which I thought was interesting.
- 1:07:31So it's like more gyms became 76 to 100 open athletes.
- 1:07:37In 2024, we were almost at we're like at the second best that we
- 1:07:43had, we were equal to the second best ever.
- 1:07:46Right. But it like it, it, it, it's
- 1:07:48sort of a gauge on affiliate growth, like it's not direct,
- 1:07:52but it's like if more people are signing up or they open, they're
- 1:07:55definitely growing and I would assume they're growing in
- 1:07:57membership. And so I thought that that was
- 1:08:00really interesting that that went up during the Rosa era.
- 1:08:04To be fair, if you cut this at 2020, the 2020 number would be
- 1:08:11like 180. Which what?
- 1:08:15What are you talking about? Like you have 2018, 2024-2025
- 1:08:19right? And it looks like 2025 is like
- 1:08:21crazy crazy bad compared to the rest of prospect.
- 1:08:23If you had a 2020 year it would be like 180.
- 1:08:27Yeah. Yeah, yeah, it's going back up,
- 1:08:31right? Yeah, I guess it's kind of a
- 1:08:33dirty way to cut it. You're right, John.
- 1:08:35Let's see percent of tile improvement.
- 1:08:39Yeah. How many people?
- 1:08:41I was interested to see how many improved especially in the 20
- 1:08:44plus points percentile points and that's 31%.
- 1:08:49So like, you know, if you start at like a 50th percentile, 31%
- 1:08:54of those people are getting up at, you know, above the the
- 1:08:5680th. Yeah.
- 1:08:59And I think that's that's a really good improvement.
- 1:09:02And then like how many never improve or decline is only 20%.
- 1:09:05Now, Hiller pointed out. Like not everyone can improve.
- 1:09:09I'm like, yeah, sure. But only 20% I think is a really
- 1:09:14good number. Yeah.
- 1:09:16I mean, I think we see people that are still getting more fit
- 1:09:19years and years into doing it on the left of that count of
- 1:09:22athletes by age per year. Just real quick, this is
- 1:09:26probably our problem. Yes, it is the largest problem
- 1:09:31that exists right now. That white line is.
- 1:09:34It's also how to succeed. Yes.
- 1:09:38Well, it, it, I mean, yes, I, I, I'm curious, do you think that
- 1:09:45that because what we're looking at is the young actually
- 1:09:50probably college age and up in the, into the 20s stopped doing
- 1:09:58the open. We're not getting new people to
- 1:10:02bet to fill that bucket as they age up compared to what we had a
- 1:10:06decade ago. Obviously we don't have every
- 1:10:11year of that. But when everything shifted in
- 1:10:152019 and we're still carrying milk jugs in front of a couch
- 1:10:20and the messaging is gone from Chris Spieler doing the open to
- 1:10:24Grandma doing the open, does that hurt the bottom of the, the
- 1:10:30that 20 year old funnel? And it goes back to you can tie
- 1:10:39this into the Border Patrol, the military, U.S. military
- 1:10:43sponsoring the games. Like that's what we used to like
- 1:10:48go in hard at. It was always the first
- 1:10:50responders, the military. That's what that's who should be
- 1:10:53doing CrossFit. If you're in that you should do
- 1:10:55CrossFit, CrossFit or should consider doing it going into
- 1:10:57that line of work. And now it's like, oh, we can't
- 1:11:01talk about that. And now look what you have.
- 1:11:03You have all these 20 year olds that are going to do something
- 1:11:05else. Question is what are they doing?
- 1:11:11You know, I've heard that like the younger generation, I've
- 1:11:16heard it both ways, that the younger generation both isn't
- 1:11:19working out as much and then also is working out more.
- 1:11:23James, you missed something that you're going to like a lot, but
- 1:11:26also you get called out pretty hard, like I forget where
- 1:11:32somewhere in the last 70 minutes there is, I mean, something,
- 1:11:36something not great was said about you.
- 1:11:38So go ahead and scour that. Spin eye over it I overlapped
- 1:11:45when I pulled these numbers I I was desperately worried about
- 1:11:48this because the openness felt the open and gyms have felt
- 1:11:51older and older to me like aggressively older than just
- 1:11:55aging. You know what I mean?
- 1:11:57And so I, when I pulled this chart, I started to think about
- 1:12:03how the season structure has changed throughout the years.
- 1:12:05Because what you're saying, like with, you know, the tip of the
- 1:12:08spear stuff and, and the milk jugs.
- 1:12:11I heard the antifreeze jugs and all that stuff is like they
- 1:12:14started to try to appeal to an older crowd.
- 1:12:17And it's like the younger people just feel alienated.
- 1:12:22They, they, they're not turned on by that.
- 1:12:23Like they want to do something that gives them FOMO or makes
- 1:12:26them feel like other people are doing at their age, right?
- 1:12:29And then so I started to think about the season structure.
- 1:12:32And so it like you don't have to scroll back, but if you go and
- 1:12:35look at that just athlete count over the years, like you can put
- 1:12:40a direct overlay of like when we were doing regionals, when we
- 1:12:44went to super regionals, when we went to sanctionals, and then
- 1:12:48now our new system. And it's like every time that
- 1:12:52those changed, that tilt went down.
- 1:12:55Do you also, I still also remember 10 years ago, all the
- 1:13:02gyms around Nashville had a competitor program.
- 1:13:05Yep, Yep. Right.
- 1:13:07And so like you'd start out in the regular classes and if you
- 1:13:10were one of those top guys or women, you kind of were like,
- 1:13:13oh, I'm going to go to the competitor program.
- 1:13:15I know that some people don't like that now, right?
- 1:13:19Like, no, we just do our programming.
- 1:13:21That's it. But that competitor program is
- 1:13:24what fed your affiliate team that was trying to make it to
- 1:13:27regionals and that's what you did is like, oh, I want all my
- 1:13:32people that are the the best to train together so they get good
- 1:13:35at regionals and then go to the regionals and there's a chance
- 1:13:39of making it to the games before the Super teams came.
- 1:13:43I don't think that's like happens that's.
- 1:13:45Not a thing that's not a really like the the competitive gyms
- 1:13:48now are just so niche. I'm sure there's a few.
- 1:13:53I'm sure there's a few and we'll see it at Syndicate.
- 1:13:55I'm sure there's a couple affiliate teams that go in there
- 1:13:58that are true affiliates. But I don't, I don't get that
- 1:14:02sense that that is like those groups were there because they
- 1:14:07wanted to be able to make regionals at some point.
- 1:14:09People were proud to Rep their their affiliate and be at
- 1:14:13regionals back in the day. And now it's like, what training
- 1:14:16camp are you with Mayhem? You know, whatever there was
- 1:14:201800 mayhem teams, you know, when they were in Brazil and all
- 1:14:23over the place. And it's like, you know, you're
- 1:14:25going to see that. And it's like, I want to go back
- 1:14:27to that affiliate style. And like that was the point that
- 1:14:30I really wanted to get across was like those if I back in
- 1:14:342015, there was a lot of talk of like, what do you do with the
- 1:14:37athletes that caught? Like they cause a lot of
- 1:14:39problems. They usually your equipment,
- 1:14:40they're not doing class like all that stuff.
- 1:14:43But every affiliate that I've ever been to that has a large
- 1:14:47competitor base, they were always way healthier gyms.
- 1:14:51Now you could argue that they go there because it's a better
- 1:14:54facility or whatever. But I think I what I observed is
- 1:14:58that it, it trickled down even to the people who didn't want to
- 1:15:02be competitive because people would be training.
- 1:15:05People would jump in on pieces with the athletes that they
- 1:15:07could do and they would feel cool because they did, you know,
- 1:15:10some workout with, you know, with me.
- 1:15:12It was like Jen Smith is like, I felt cool because I was doing
- 1:15:14workouts with her. And then like, I go work out
- 1:15:18with the class and I'm moving better because I want to be able
- 1:15:21to train with Jen. And then they're, you know,
- 1:15:23having to compete with me. They start moving better and
- 1:15:26then like everybody in the gym is moving better and feels
- 1:15:30better. And it's like that is gone.
- 1:15:34That's all gone now. Right.
- 1:15:36No, I, yeah. And, and a lot of times those
- 1:15:38competitive programs weren't, they're not following Mayhem or
- 1:15:41there weren't those programs. Out there they were, home they
- 1:15:43were. Home they were, they were the
- 1:15:44owner that was just creating harder workouts or an extra
- 1:15:48workout on top of what they were doing for that group of people.
- 1:15:51It wasn't like, hey, we're just going to come here and use your
- 1:15:54gym. Like they were still part of the
- 1:15:56community. And he knew what it took to get
- 1:15:58to that. And it's what members were
- 1:15:59doing, striving to go to to compete.
- 1:16:02There, I think Chase did this at Big D like if you want, he made
- 1:16:05the rule that like if you were at his gym, you had to do his
- 1:16:08programming, but if you wanted to be an athlete, he would
- 1:16:11program extra stuff for you, but you were going to do the
- 1:16:13affiliate. Program.
- 1:16:14Yep. Anyway, let's see.
- 1:16:17Moving on down, we're going to go through a couple things.
- 1:16:20Go down to the recommendations. Recommendation number one,
- 1:16:23restore the participation feedback loop by reinvesting
- 1:16:28open registration funds into the regionals structure.
- 1:16:32Yeah. So I mean, we kind of already
- 1:16:34hit on this with like the thing about regionals where you were
- 1:16:38pulling from such a smaller base of a smaller travel base.
- 1:16:43And so it felt like a community event.
- 1:16:45And then I've, I've hit on the piece where in the IT affects, I
- 1:16:51think your retention in the gym in your own affiliate, because
- 1:16:54people care more. And then once a year, if you
- 1:16:58have athletes that are qualifying to go to regionals,
- 1:17:00guess what your gym is going to do.
- 1:17:02You know, it's like mine. We were two hours away from
- 1:17:05Cincinnati. We drove up to Cincinnati or we
- 1:17:06were three hours from Nashville and we would drive down to
- 1:17:09Nashville. It was like it, that was
- 1:17:11basically the commute for most people to go to the regionals.
- 1:17:14And it's like, I knew a bunch of people that just went for one
- 1:17:17day and it was like, that was cool.
- 1:17:18They they hung out with everybody, but that created a
- 1:17:22camaraderie event essentially. And then also the the cut off
- 1:17:29for athletes has been raised every single year.
- 1:17:32I didn't include the chart. I included in the graph of like,
- 1:17:35essentially how many athletes can play ball.
- 1:17:40And like back in the day, it was like basically 4000 athletes
- 1:17:46around the world were allowed to play ball.
- 1:17:48And now it's like, and it's close to 1000 and it's like, you
- 1:17:53know what effect? That has the number of athletes
- 1:17:55that actually do in person semifinals.
- 1:17:58I bet it's less than that. Right.
- 1:18:02And I mean, you look at it like anybody that's using the
- 1:18:06quarterfinals as their methanol is as their, you know, their
- 1:18:12funnel, the same athletes are going to get invited to three or
- 1:18:15four of the same semifinals. They can't all do them.
- 1:18:19So they're going to, it'll trickle down beyond that.
- 1:18:23But if you're #300 in the world in quarterfinals, there's a good
- 1:18:29chance you don't make it to a semifinal unless you did one of
- 1:18:32these other random online qualifiers, whereas 300 in the
- 1:18:38world back then you were going to a regional.
- 1:18:42Yeah, basically because like John hit on this with the
- 1:18:46athletes, you know, the football athlete, right?
- 1:18:49That whole example that you were giving, what those people would
- 1:18:54have done in 2014 is they would have joined a team somewhere.
- 1:18:58Like you had some of the pieces, but you didn't have all of it.
- 1:19:01And like back then, when you had six people on a team, you could
- 1:19:04go. To regionals on a team and and
- 1:19:07even if you're bad, but you're good at lifting, right and then
- 1:19:11you can hide right, but it would bring people to more people to
- 1:19:17the competition, I think. And if people haven't seen it,
- 1:19:21you need to watch the 11 minute video that's kind of hits the,
- 1:19:25the head topics of Tyler's open report, but the Super regionals
- 1:19:30to super regionals. And that equals getting more
- 1:19:34people at your competitions, even though it does cost money
- 1:19:37to do like as far as the growth of the sport.
- 1:19:43And when we embrace that the open was the highest it's ever
- 1:19:48been. Every step that we've gotten
- 1:19:50away from it, it has deteriorated in various ways,
- 1:19:56right? It's gotten a little help, but
- 1:19:58still right. And I really, I, I think that's
- 1:20:04the biggest point that you've like in the whole entire report
- 1:20:07is how is this? Recommendation one to fix growth
- 1:20:13'cause I just think it would, I just think it would work.
- 1:20:15People, yeah, Abby does too. People loved regionals.
- 1:20:21I didn't and, and, and, and I loved regionals.
- 1:20:25Obviously like, you know, I'm the type of things like it's,
- 1:20:28it's an easier bar to think you can get there as an individual.
- 1:20:35And then there's way more people that can do it because of teams,
- 1:20:40right. Like, and then when you said the
- 1:20:42people who come to the competitions, it's either, you
- 1:20:45know, somebody from your gym or it's your family.
- 1:20:49Yeah. She is all on board with.
- 1:20:54This she is big time super regional fan.
- 1:20:57Like I don't see how even if it costs money, just the sheer
- 1:21:04marketing boom you can have from it.
- 1:21:07Like, I just think it's worth it, man.
- 1:21:10A lot of people won't go to the games and this was HQ's
- 1:21:15opportunity in each little, you know, region to say this is a
- 1:21:20mini mini games. This is like a taste of what you
- 1:21:22would get at the games. It was a fantastic marketing
- 1:21:25opportunity at the very like there would be affiliate
- 1:21:27gatherings and stuff like everybody you know, a lot of the
- 1:21:30big. I mean that's things like TF TFX
- 1:21:34have the whatever the Southwest or South Central affiliate
- 1:21:38gathering there, right? You could do that at these semi
- 1:21:42fine or you know, regionals and that's part of what you're doing
- 1:21:46like. And having like the central
- 1:21:49regional be the hard way, harder than all the rest of the
- 1:21:51regional. It's like I there's something to
- 1:21:53that, man. Like it was great.
- 1:21:55People want to watch that, right?
- 1:21:57So like if there's what Dallin, James and Justin would be in the
- 1:22:01same regional they be? In the northwest back.
- 1:22:05In right and they and they only have three people that go
- 1:22:08there's gonna be some weirdo that is ahead of one of them
- 1:22:12going into the last day and everybody's gonna be like, Oh my
- 1:22:16gosh, James might not make the games right and that's that's
- 1:22:21that's what like that added to it because like when Sam Briggs
- 1:22:25didn't make the games in 2014, she just.
- 1:22:29Won. Yeah, imagine if that happened
- 1:22:33today. And like, things like that could
- 1:22:35happen. There was so much more.
- 1:22:38Just heartbreak and just like Oh my God.
- 1:22:41Storytelling. I I made it right like you don't
- 1:22:45have the same just heartstrings that were connected like that
- 1:22:50regionals brought. There were so many tears shed,
- 1:22:54good and bad from regionals than any other competition Crossfit's
- 1:23:00ever put on. And you like Fukowski missing it
- 1:23:04two years in a row because of handstand push ups when
- 1:23:07everybody knew Dude, that guy, if he ever makes it, it's going
- 1:23:12to be dirty. And then when he finally did, he
- 1:23:14was fourth place as a rookie, right?
- 1:23:17Like that stuff matters. That's storytelling, right?
- 1:23:23And I you got to find a way to make it work.
- 1:23:28The the thing. Right I I think you just have to
- 1:23:31find a way to make it work. I was thinking about that, John.
- 1:23:34Like, find a way to make it work.
- 1:23:35And like we think like that and like HQ sitting there, they're
- 1:23:38looking at their. It's not HQ, it's Berkshire.
- 1:23:42Berkshire is looking at it and they're just seeing, you know,
- 1:23:45their balance sheet and they're like we, you know, in their
- 1:23:47income statement, they're like, you know, we can't do this.
- 1:23:48And it's like, no, I don't think you understand.
- 1:23:50Like you have to find a way to make this work like there's no
- 1:23:54other. There's no other option.
- 1:23:56Obviously nobody's coming here to buy you to buy CrossFit, so
- 1:23:59you might want to invest long term if you want a chance of
- 1:24:02getting out of this thing. And the thing that I thought
- 1:24:04about that, that actually I 100% I think would happen is like,
- 1:24:09say you just took the map, the, the, the region's map that I
- 1:24:12had, you know, in the video and you just laid it back down.
- 1:24:15It's like we've got to find events willing to put on this
- 1:24:18regional and like people to host this and, and, and cut the cost
- 1:24:22for us, but we'll subsidized it. I think you would have people
- 1:24:25coming out of the woodwork to be like, I would host that event
- 1:24:28immediately and like they haven't had a regional or
- 1:24:31semifinal in years. And they'd be like, I'd do it
- 1:24:33tomorrow because they know what it means.
- 1:24:36Yeah, I I definitely agree. And I, you know, if, if
- 1:24:41Berkshire's plan is to keep cutting costs by just reducing
- 1:24:44workforce, like that's not going to.
- 1:24:49It turns, it turns the, it turns the, it's a revenue driver back
- 1:24:52on. Like, yeah, you're going to give
- 1:24:54up, you're going to give up a 20%.
- 1:24:55You're already giving back to the affiliates back into this
- 1:24:59regional structure. And it's like, you know, I said
- 1:25:02it in the video, I know for a fact that these, I know 100% for
- 1:25:06a fact that the regionals were costing, I said 1,000,000 in the
- 1:25:09video. It's, it's more like almost half
- 1:25:12of 1.5 million that they were spending on these regionals.
- 1:25:15It's, it's insane. They're now running for 300,
- 1:25:20four, $100,000. Like if you give them however
- 1:25:23much it, you know, you can dole out to each one of these
- 1:25:26semifinals, it's going to greatly help.
- 1:25:28It's going to increase how many sponsors and, and vendors that
- 1:25:31they can have at the event. And then they're going to get
- 1:25:35more, they're going to get more people in their gyms.
- 1:25:38They're going to stay longer. People are going to want to make
- 1:25:41open more gyms and all that it it will pay off within five
- 1:25:44years. Can you not can you not and and
- 1:25:48maybe this is this is what it looks like and I'm you know,
- 1:25:51don't know. Can you not like just lease out
- 1:25:54like the Central East Regional to syndicate and it's just
- 1:25:59called the? Central, if you have each
- 1:26:01region, somebody would bid or ask, you know, fly to be the one
- 1:26:05that hosts it and got it like. It would be the same as you have
- 1:26:09now, right? If Wilson wanted to run that
- 1:26:11one, but like, I don't know if they all have to be in an arena
- 1:26:16like Knoxville. No, they don't.
- 1:26:18Right, like you could do one at a large gym if you had the right
- 1:26:22set up, right, Like the Mode Classic, you could do that out
- 1:26:27there in the Pacific Northwest. You could do J Rs gym.
- 1:26:31I mean, here in Nashville, you have CrossFit East Nashville,
- 1:26:33you have proven, proven has four lanes of a of a semifinals level
- 1:26:38floor. Yeah, it's almost like going
- 1:26:41back to sectionals. Yeah.
- 1:26:44Right, like the that was really home grown at that point.
- 1:26:47Right. The thing that I was thinking
- 1:26:50about is like, we're not, we're not far off of it now.
- 1:26:54We do have more regions than we've had in a long time.
- 1:26:58And the the real difference is like that CrossFit sort of
- 1:27:01created this, this vibe of like it was a mini professional event
- 1:27:05in each one of your cities, but then also like it was just so
- 1:27:09close and like anyway. Miss Medeiros Regional sucked us
- 1:27:15all in 100%. Yeah, and, and, and also like,
- 1:27:21you know, Justin talks about this all the time.
- 1:27:23His first experience as regionals, he was running 333
- 1:27:27and he was right next to Josh Bridges and he was and Justin
- 1:27:30was nothing. Justin was nothing.
- 1:27:32And he and he was like, Oh my gosh, I'm next to Josh Bridges,
- 1:27:36right. And and then, you know, lo and
- 1:27:39behold, he come, you know, he ends up a lot better than Josh
- 1:27:42Bridges, but you don't. I just so like if you can be in
- 1:27:49in heat one of regional and be so underneath, like the caliber
- 1:27:54of athlete that you're going to go against and yeah, you're
- 1:27:56going to get crushed. But just the opportunity, the
- 1:28:00opportunity and like, like you guys, I know, I know people
- 1:28:04think I overestimate my fitness a lot, but y'all, y'all tell me
- 1:28:09if I'm being mistaken like this. It it'd be like heat one, right?
- 1:28:15And it's like 20 people per heat and and one of the better
- 1:28:18athletes has a bad whatever quarterfinals.
- 1:28:21And like me and Jason in the same event, right?
- 1:28:26Like that's that's the type of athlete that you would get
- 1:28:29against a guy like that. Like yeah if y'all don't belong
- 1:28:32in the same room but just the chance to go against the best in
- 1:28:38the world and people would want to train for that.
- 1:28:42And you could have a bad open event.
- 1:28:43You'd have a bad open event and you were in the first heat.
- 1:28:46Right. Right.
- 1:28:47And so like you did get to go compete against somebody that
- 1:28:51was really good next to you, at least on day one, and then
- 1:28:54they'd pull away. But no, I, I, if you can figure
- 1:28:58that out, I think that helps tremendously with the community
- 1:29:01drawing affiliates. I don't will say going back to a
- 1:29:05six person team draws more from the affiliate base than a four
- 1:29:09person team. It does.
- 1:29:12It sucks because no one really wants to watch it, but we don't.
- 1:29:15Want to watch it with four but? Like we don't want to watch it
- 1:29:17with four and like there's also. Questions.
- 1:29:20We might not watch regionals like like it might not even be
- 1:29:23that watch worthy, but so many more people would participate
- 1:29:27and pay for it. So like your competition would
- 1:29:31have so many more people and more money would flow in, even
- 1:29:36if people aren't watching it, right?
- 1:29:39Like nobody's going to watch heat one, heat 2 and heat 3.
- 1:29:42Like, you know, no, nobody's going to and we shouldn't.
- 1:29:45Those people don't matter, right?
- 1:29:48But so many more people would come and watch the the whole the
- 1:29:53competition live in person, money, vendors, It's just the
- 1:29:57whole ecosystem would grow. The issue this runs into is that
- 1:30:01we'd have to cut quarterfinals and.
- 1:30:04But if you're going back to something like this where your
- 1:30:07regionals is your quarterfinals? Right, but whose?
- 1:30:10Whose income statement does that hurt?
- 1:30:15Do you have to cut quarterfinals?
- 1:30:16I think you do. You again like you could do
- 1:30:21'cause. We're going instead of going
- 1:30:23instead of doing. Three weeks, we're doing 3 weeks
- 1:30:25and then go into a week off and into quarterfinals.
- 1:30:29Like there's a, we're not doing anything to check the open,
- 1:30:32right? Like we find out if Colton and
- 1:30:34Mirham win and then we just move on and there's no video.
- 1:30:37I mean, while we're at it, let's just go back to A5 day open.
- 1:30:40And the, well, no, the only thing, the only person that gets
- 1:30:43like dinged outside of that is John.
- 1:30:46And then like week four could easily be two workouts, right,
- 1:30:51right. Like as part of quarterfinals,
- 1:30:54Sure. And then that's like, all right,
- 1:30:56you've made it into the top. Whatever.
- 1:30:58There's two more workouts that you can do at your affiliate.
- 1:31:01Oh, a cut. Yeah, like it's a cut those it
- 1:31:05gets progressively harder and and workouts four and five are
- 1:31:08now big boy workouts and they're the quarterfinals you got to pay
- 1:31:13to get to continue on. Like if you're in that top 2000
- 1:31:16or whatever, you want to do 25% whatever and you just do the
- 1:31:20next week and it's 2 and then you have all 5 workouts and you
- 1:31:24do everything you did like you did with the open back in the
- 1:31:27day from reviewing and doing all that stuff.
- 1:31:30But then it's and then it's top 50 in the South region of of
- 1:31:34that quarterfinals like of. All of that, Yeah, all of it's
- 1:31:38by. Region S region goes to your
- 1:31:41regional. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:31:44And I'm like, like, that's still so many more people would fight
- 1:31:47for that. Oh yeah.
- 1:31:49I agree. All right, we got to move on.
- 1:31:51It's been. I just want to say it's only
- 1:31:54taken me three years, but I finally guys, they've converted
- 1:31:56you guys to back to regionals team.
- 1:32:00It just took a week's worth of pulling data four months.
- 1:32:03Four months worth of day to work.
- 1:32:05All right, real quick leadership.
- 1:32:08I I've heard this but I'll comment.
- 1:32:09I'm going to take her out of the bouncer.
- 1:32:15Go ahead, leadership. Will Morad goes over to Mayhem
- 1:32:18last week, publishes the podcast on Monday.
- 1:32:22We've got World Fitness Project. We've got 19 signed men.
- 1:32:27James Sprague is the lone holdout.
- 1:32:30He may or may not be doing it, I don't know.
- 1:32:34The women only have 7 announcements on what they're
- 1:32:37doing. What is going on with the women?
- 1:32:41Like what are are the women not going to do?
- 1:32:45World Fitness project. Any of them.
- 1:32:48I mean, Emma Tall's the only one out of the top ten who has been
- 1:32:53signed so far. Well, I thought roughly 70% or
- 1:32:58blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. They said 70% is accepted that's
- 1:33:01what will said with rich, which means 30% did not, which means
- 1:33:06that would 12 total out of the 40 invites to be a pro card
- 1:33:10holder have you know have declined.
- 1:33:14We know four men, Dallin, Justin Adler and Ricky Jason and
- 1:33:25Hatfield, Jay Crouch, they didn't even get an invite
- 1:33:29because they didn't do the finals.
- 1:33:31That's only four. And we know Lucy Campbell, so
- 1:33:34that's 5 because she told Talking Elite Fitness.
- 1:33:37And you have Brooke Wells, who's retired six.
- 1:33:40That means there's six more women, unless James is 1.
- 1:33:44But there's a there's a whole bunch that are going to say no.
- 1:33:52Is it over? Like what?
- 1:33:54What is it going to turn into? I don't.
- 1:33:55I don't think it's over. It's over.
- 1:33:58I don't think it's over, but it's like, oh, it's a bad mark.
- 1:34:02Yeah, that would have been nice to hear Will's opinion on that
- 1:34:04on the Rich Froning podcast. I would have loved to have a
- 1:34:07straight answer of, you know what we think of that stuff.
- 1:34:10Dude you could have pinned him down and not got a straight
- 1:34:13answer. Well, I've been better than,
- 1:34:16yeah. Dude, he's more crooked than a
- 1:34:20hillbilly in Kentucky's teeth. We have great teeth, I'll have
- 1:34:24you know. A hillbilly, not you.
- 1:34:29It's looking, it's looking not good.
- 1:34:33I just, I don't know, I the the whole podcast did not come off
- 1:34:38well. It was.
- 1:34:39Weird. He's very evasive and like.
- 1:34:42Well I'd say the whole podcast in general, like the first 7
- 1:34:45minutes Will said like 6 words and then it finally got into it.
- 1:34:51Do that part where Austin's just like.
- 1:34:54Please give me an answer. Hypothetically, hypothetically,
- 1:34:58I know anything which I mean it was a hard question like what,
- 1:35:03what do you what should will even say in that situation like.
- 1:35:07Just say yes. Just say we would 100% work with
- 1:35:10them. It's.
- 1:35:12All hypothetical anyway. When people ask me
- 1:35:14hypotheticals, I just go for the moon.
- 1:35:16I'm like, yeah, buddy, I would just.
- 1:35:19Yeah, but if you get, then you get how, what would you say you
- 1:35:22can't be like, well, we, you know, the CrossFit Games is
- 1:35:24going to be part of our season because then everybody's going
- 1:35:26to attack you there. You just spit.
- 1:35:30You got to be good at spitballing.
- 1:35:32You just got to run with it. I he just like, that's why you
- 1:35:38Dave. Dave is really good at answering
- 1:35:41questions and making you feel like he answered them even
- 1:35:45though he may have not. Like it?
- 1:35:46Whether there be a new movement in the open, Right?
- 1:35:49Right. And it's like you've got you, if
- 1:35:51you're going to be the front man, you got to be able to Shuck
- 1:35:53and jive like that. And it was just nothing it and
- 1:35:56it like him going on that podcast was worse than him not
- 1:36:00going on it. I know everybody's waiting for
- 1:36:04it and and like the North Star stuff was terrible.
- 1:36:09My North Star is sport, my North Star is website.
- 1:36:14I love lamp. They should have.
- 1:36:15They should have been like. John's North Star is mountain
- 1:36:18like what? When, when he said when he said
- 1:36:22that I don't what? I don't know how Rich kept a
- 1:36:25straight face. I really don't like like, I
- 1:36:28don't know how you don't go. We don't know what Angela was
- 1:36:30doing though. What?
- 1:36:32Angela's got a thick enough beard he can hide anything the
- 1:36:37like. Say you say my North Star is
- 1:36:40sport. I don't know how you go.
- 1:36:43What does that mean? Or, or or you know what I would
- 1:36:47have said you and I said, well, OK, I got you.
- 1:36:50That's cool. Would you consider the World
- 1:36:54Fitness project like the sport of fitness?
- 1:36:57Right. And he would.
- 1:36:57Say he would say yeah. Yeah, he would say.
- 1:36:59Yeah, I would like. I hope you reached it.
- 1:37:01You don't have to do anything more.
- 1:37:02You're there. You're.
- 1:37:04There. You're there, you've done it.
- 1:37:06You're the most successful person in your mind.
- 1:37:09Yeah, and I just, I don't know, I.
- 1:37:12What's your S star, Will? That's because that's where I
- 1:37:16feel you're at. Not.
- 1:37:17Not North or not. Not not I.
- 1:37:20Just not sport. I just wish that they would
- 1:37:24reconsider what they're trying to do because it's very loud and
- 1:37:28clear that not a whole lot of people wanted, can or want to
- 1:37:31compete this much dude. And like I don't one competition
- 1:37:41like you just saw what rogue did they they they increased their
- 1:37:46cash investment in the prize purse to $1.215 million from a
- 1:37:50million. They added another 2200 and
- 1:37:52$15,000 to their cash prize minimum guaranteed.
- 1:37:57As much money as that World Fitness project is spending,
- 1:38:01they could have done one competition in December in
- 1:38:06Copenhagen. And have been more valuable.
- 1:38:10And paid a $300,000 to the winners.
- 1:38:13Yeah, and. We just say, hey, we're just
- 1:38:14doing this really big competition.
- 1:38:16We're doing one awesome competition.
- 1:38:17You're gonna we're going to pay more than your prospect games.
- 1:38:19Yeah, in Europe doesn't have a big.
- 1:38:21Europe doesn't get anything right.
- 1:38:23We're going to move it around every year to somewhere else.
- 1:38:25We're going to be the world from that standpoint.
- 1:38:28World Fitness project. But it's one giant competition
- 1:38:31where we want the best of the best to go, and we're going to
- 1:38:34pay them so much money that they can make a living off of 1
- 1:38:37competition. They'd spend less than bouncing
- 1:38:40around 3 places, burning everybody out, making people
- 1:38:43quit the thing. All of us would be so excited if
- 1:38:48there was a competition, one competition like that.
- 1:38:51If they grow into the minor league of CrossFit though, I
- 1:38:53don't mind it because. I think, I don't think if you're
- 1:38:58the minor league of CrossFit, you can keep doing what you're
- 1:39:00doing well. They got a blank blank check
- 1:39:02man. Unlimited budget.
- 1:39:07I mean, people are already buying tickets for next year at
- 1:39:10the same event, you know? Like, I don't, I don't doubt it,
- 1:39:13like it. Goes it goes it goes Vogue and
- 1:39:15World Fitness project. I think Wilson needs to allow
- 1:39:17cowbells into the syndicate, like cowbells like the Zuzu
- 1:39:23Vellas or whatever they were from the World Cup years ago
- 1:39:27just get crazy drums. I just like how he goes.
- 1:39:33I but I would say the athletes we have are awesome.
- 1:39:38Patrick, you're Patrick. You are.
- 1:39:42Great. Look, I get it to some degree.
- 1:39:45I get it. I CrossFit you.
- 1:39:47I get it to some degree because like last year at Syndicate, we
- 1:39:51didn't have the Jason Hoppers, the Austin Hatfields, because
- 1:39:56they all went somewhere else where they qualified through the
- 1:39:58online semifinal. I get that.
- 1:40:04But this was designed for the best of the best, and you're now
- 1:40:07seeing a large percentage of the best of the best.
- 1:40:10Only two out of the top nine do it.
- 1:40:12And I think the two of the nine that are staying are doing it
- 1:40:15because now they look at it and go, I've got easy money.
- 1:40:18Like I'll just, I'll be top three regardless of what
- 1:40:22happens. Like I'm beating all these other
- 1:40:24guys and that's going to be decent money for me.
- 1:40:27I'll deal with the ramifications later.
- 1:40:29And it will be. But I don't think you can keep
- 1:40:33paying 80,000 or more or $60,000 to somebody who's not even on
- 1:40:42John's Mountain, or if they are, they're on the bottom row and be
- 1:40:47sustainable because it's not going to drive enough sponsors
- 1:40:50to do that. Is Roman out?
- 1:40:52Roman's in. Right, Roman's in and James are
- 1:40:54is in. James is in.
- 1:40:55Wait, I thought he wasn't in? Well, that's what I've heard.
- 1:40:58I don't know. Confirm that James is in.
- 1:41:00I don't know anything, I'm just saying I'm assuming James is in.
- 1:41:03James Man. Give us a.
- 1:41:06Listen. Give us breaking news, buddy,
- 1:41:08You got? Your number you got.
- 1:41:10You got something else, John? Is James out?
- 1:41:13No, I don't know anything. No, like I don't, I don't know.
- 1:41:16I don't know anything. OK, come on, James, call us
- 1:41:19right now all. Right.
- 1:41:21I don't even know what I know. Me either.
- 1:41:25I love, I love lamp. Yeah, I love Speaking of, we're
- 1:41:29not making an open spin shirt. 56% said no.
- 1:41:33Sorry. They don't.
- 1:41:34They don't want our shirts. That's fine.
- 1:41:38There's sometimes whenever things happen like that and then
- 1:41:40I go, did I do, did I know something like do I do I know
- 1:41:44something I don't like? Like gaslight yourself.
- 1:41:48Yeah, like I have like then now I don't even know.
- 1:41:50Like I really don't even know what I know.
- 1:41:52Yeah, James, I mean, James said he was the only one of the boys
- 1:41:55doing it on Sivan's podcast. But then he also left the
- 1:41:58comment on my post of like, you're, you're basically the
- 1:42:02average of your friends and tagged them.
- 1:42:04So I don't know. I would say that he's trolling
- 1:42:06you then because it is easy money for James.
- 1:42:09Why would you not do it? And he handled all.
- 1:42:12The competition. He handled all the competition
- 1:42:15the best out of everybody. Yeah, I, I mean, look, I mean,
- 1:42:19he's gonna, he's, he's guaranteed $80,000 just for
- 1:42:22showing up. If he doesn't, if he doesn't
- 1:42:25feel like it, he could just literally show up and go through
- 1:42:28the motions. It's hard to say no to.
- 1:42:31And then he's up for $150,000. I think it is for if you win
- 1:42:36everything. So like, and it's gotten easier
- 1:42:40with all the big guys, all this competition other than Roman.
- 1:42:43I completely get. So I mean, that's fine.
- 1:42:47We'll see. I don't know what the women's
- 1:42:48going on. I've asked around and asked
- 1:42:50like, does anybody know why? Like more have just not been
- 1:42:53announced and like, nobody knows.
- 1:42:55We're willing to share. That does make me want to shift
- 1:42:58my predictions. So two, I mean, if all of those
- 1:43:04guys are not doing it and they're just training and James
- 1:43:09has two competitions that they don't have.
- 1:43:12It'll only one before the games. Gotcha, gotcha.
- 1:43:14It just, it just makes me want to, you know, shift things
- 1:43:18around 'cause. It'll be, it'll be fine if James
- 1:43:21goes to Norcal and wins, But if he goes to Mexico City the first
- 1:43:28week of May and then doesn't take top three at Norcal for
- 1:43:33some reason and then has to go to online semifinals, like
- 1:43:37that's starting to add up. Where now you have less and less
- 1:43:41time to qualify for or train for the games, get ready for the
- 1:43:45games, all that stuff. You've now done 3 competitions.
- 1:43:49There's a good chance that some of those got like Jason or
- 1:43:52Dallin may have only done 1. I don't know why he's not stated
- 1:43:57whether he's going to do it yet or not.
- 1:43:59I thought he had. He said he did, but then he just
- 1:44:02put him on comments so he got got everybody questioning.
- 1:44:05My my guess is like he's you want.
- 1:44:07Me to call him. Yeah, call him.
- 1:44:10He's really having a time with it.
- 1:44:13And if you're like, if you're having a time with it at this
- 1:44:16point, it's you need to like can.
- 1:44:23You hear it? Yeah, yeah, Mr. Spring.
- 1:44:27Rob. Hey, James.
- 1:44:30What's good Mr. Are you doing the World Fitness project?
- 1:44:33Yes or no? Dude, I don't know.
- 1:44:36Am I? I I don't know.
- 1:44:37That's why I'm asking. You better tell them we're on
- 1:44:40the show doing. Their secrets.
- 1:44:41Isn't it more fun that way? Hold on, hold on.
- 1:44:43Before you say anything, we are on the show.
- 1:44:47Does that change your opinion I. Know it's your time right now.
- 1:44:49It's I want come on, the last few weeks you invited me on, but
- 1:44:53it's always during youth group, dude.
- 1:44:54That's that's fine. You know, you stay to youth
- 1:44:56group. Youth group's more important.
- 1:44:58Just tell us the answer now and it's understanding.
- 1:45:00All right, just keep the. Answer is yet yet to be
- 1:45:06announced. When When do you plan on
- 1:45:09announcing? Come back to John Young can.
- 1:45:18You hear me? Yeah, I got you.
- 1:45:19When? When do you plan on announcing?
- 1:45:22It's kind of like a pregnancy enough.
- 1:45:25You're wait, Danica's pregnant. Danica's pregnant.
- 1:45:31No. Oh, James, you're breaking up.
- 1:45:35I think. I think that's the last thing we
- 1:45:37got, man. I I I hope things go well for
- 1:45:40the two of you. Congratulations, dude.
- 1:45:41I have nine months to announce it.
- 1:45:45OK, Nine months to announce it. I got you.
- 1:45:46All right, I'll let you go, man. Sorry for bothering you dude.
- 1:45:49You're cutting out so bad, gosh Dang it.
- 1:45:54All right, I'm gonna let you go, man.
- 1:45:55Thank you all. All I hear is you laughing, all
- 1:45:58right? Bye.
- 1:46:00Well, Congrats to James and Danica maybe.
- 1:46:02Yeah, James and Danica every Hey everybody, hey everybody from
- 1:46:06the show. Congrats.
- 1:46:09Go DM James. Congrats to you and Danica.
- 1:46:15That's that's that's but just DM him.
- 1:46:17Don't like take post or anything.
- 1:46:19Don't make it. Just DM.
- 1:46:20Yeah, Congrats. Keep it private.
- 1:46:23All right, That's world fitness project.
- 1:46:25All right, real quick 9 freaking minutes blind rankings.
- 1:46:34That's right. Hey, Tyler, Tyler, Tyler, we're
- 1:46:37not going to do we're just going to do the normal blind rankings
- 1:46:39because we don't have time for John to sing to us.
- 1:46:41We got it. We got.
- 1:46:42It well, I'll wear it anyway. I'll make good hints, yeah.
- 1:46:45All right, let's. See.
- 1:46:46No, it's OK. This is what we'll do.
- 1:46:53Either way, manta sleep. Go to manta.com, mantasleep.com
- 1:46:57and get the best sleep mask. Code spin saves you or whatever
- 1:47:0410% I don't know. Jeez, code spin 10% There it is.
- 1:47:08Winter Olympics is the topic. Oh, this would be a good one
- 1:47:11Spin. Can we try?
- 1:47:12I'll try to be fast. No, I'm not going to get it.
- 1:47:15There's zero chance, Zero chance.
- 1:47:19All right, real quick, first up. Oh.
- 1:47:24Two jumping. Yeah, yeah, I hold on.
- 1:47:27What would be 1? Snowboarding.
- 1:47:32I I kind of like curling is not my number one.
- 1:47:35I could get into some curling. We agree on We agree on this
- 1:47:40one. USA is in the gold medal match
- 1:47:42man. Yeah.
- 1:47:44And we, we upset Italy. It's a big deal.
- 1:47:47Cur curling's cool, but it's funny cool.
- 1:47:49It's not like sport. Cool.
- 1:47:51That's my number one though, man, Come on.
- 1:47:55You get it everyone, once every four years.
- 1:47:57Have you ever, have you ever betted on curling?
- 1:47:59Dude, betting on curling is crazy.
- 1:48:03You are so nervous the entire time and it's so slow.
- 1:48:09Oh, dude, you're, you're like sweet back, sweet back.
- 1:48:13Like like, like, dude, it's awesome.
- 1:48:15It's awesome. Scale whatever they go down.
- 1:48:20That icy thing on the the luge? Any of those are.
- 1:48:24Awesome. Like bobsled.
- 1:48:25Bobsled's cool. Hockey's cool.
- 1:48:29Oh, hockey probably should be #1.
- 1:48:31It probably should be number. One Yeah, let's go 2 for ski
- 1:48:33jumping. Ski jumping #2 all right, did
- 1:48:40you see that they dudes are injecting stuff into their.
- 1:48:44Their wee wee's. Wee wee, just to make it larger
- 1:48:48so they can get a bigger suit. Smart I.
- 1:48:53Did not see that. I was wondering why they were
- 1:48:55doing it. It so apparently the IT gets
- 1:48:59like their, their suit is scanned to make sure it's like a
- 1:49:02certain size of of their body. And so by making it larger, they
- 1:49:08can make a bigger suit. And so then it adds like, like
- 1:49:12a, like a parachute effect down there between your legs.
- 1:49:16This would be easy. You just like take a ton of
- 1:49:18electrolytes and eat pizza and stuff leading into like whenever
- 1:49:21they measure you for that. So you get bloated and then and
- 1:49:25you just shed all that. I guess you could do that.
- 1:49:29Next up, just drink a gallon of milk.
- 1:49:31Or you could just inject your pee pee with whatever.
- 1:49:35Either way, it works. Next up, figure skating. 4.
- 1:49:41I would say 5, but we'll go 4I. It would have been three with
- 1:49:46Tonya Harding was back there doing her thing.
- 1:49:50It's just nothing about it interests me at all.
- 1:49:53It's cool what they can do, but like I'm.
- 1:49:55Just I'm, I'm with you. I mean, you know what?
- 1:49:58There is an amazing figure skating movie though.
- 1:50:00Blades of Glory. Top tier.
- 1:50:03Top tier? You don't think so?
- 1:50:06We're not rating movies, though. We're not rating movies.
- 1:50:09Here we go. Next up, speed skating. 5.
- 1:50:14Five, Yeah. Also, did you?
- 1:50:16See that little Chinese girl though, that did like lap the
- 1:50:19field right from the jump and then she just stayed in the
- 1:50:21back? That's not from this year
- 1:50:23though, right? That's like a couple years ago.
- 1:50:24Yeah, it passed. I don't.
- 1:50:25Know it was cool. But it's it's cool, like it's
- 1:50:28like sprinting, but it's just like, I don't care.
- 1:50:31I also don't care about sprinting.
- 1:50:33I. Don't.
- 1:50:33Yeah. Yeah, well.
- 1:50:34That's fair. Like in the.
- 1:50:35Summer Olympics. Yeah, I don't care.
- 1:50:37Usain Bolt doesn't excite you. OK, well we disagree on that
- 1:50:41one, but I I'm with you here. Yeah.
- 1:50:43All right, Next up, curling. #1 Tyler.
- 1:50:47Just give it to him. Give it to me.
- 1:50:50Give. It a number one to me.
- 1:50:52Let's oh. Crap.
- 1:50:55It's not better than ski jumping, but it is really like,
- 1:50:58it's a lot. It's more.
- 1:50:59It's better than ski jumping for sure.
- 1:51:01Better than ski jumping? Ski jumping is boring, yeah.
- 1:51:06All right. And the last one, number three,
- 1:51:07yeah, there you go. That's what.
- 1:51:12Bobsled. OK, OK, it's fine.
- 1:51:15Bobsled, bobsled #2. Yep, Yep, the rest is fine.
- 1:51:22I put speed skating, but ahead of speed skating or speed
- 1:51:27skating ahead of figure skating. I could get down with that.
- 1:51:31I slurred slurred your speech a little bit.
- 1:51:34We spent an hour and a half on the open report.
- 1:51:37I'm sorry, all right. There you go.
- 1:51:42Man to sleep, that was the fastest blind rankings you've
- 1:51:44ever done. When you say we had to get
- 1:51:46going, we we're fast when we have to be, Yeah.
- 1:51:48We'll see about that. All right.
- 1:51:51And finally, did you guys look at the Water Palooza workouts?
- 1:51:56I have not looked. At it.
- 1:51:57I haven't looked at them, no. Been reading comments from
- 1:52:00banana dance man. I thought you booted them.
- 1:52:04No, I didn't boot them. Somebody booted him.
- 1:52:08He's annoying, yeah. I guess we found out who booted
- 1:52:14him. Yeah, this is good.
- 1:52:21I could get there. It does cross bat.
- 1:52:24It does not. Yes, yes, man, every.
- 1:52:29Dude in the world thinks man if I just trained for like a year.
- 1:52:32I don't like ping pong. You're awesome.
- 1:52:34Ping pong feels when you're playing it.
- 1:52:35It's. Amazing.
- 1:52:36There's no chance you watch the Asians playing stuff you're like
- 1:52:38I no. I'm saying I don't, I don't know
- 1:52:40if this is like this in other places, but there's a place in
- 1:52:43Nashville where you can actually do curling like it's a box car
- 1:52:46with like a curling field or whatever you want to call it.
- 1:52:49And you can go out there and rent a lane and.
- 1:52:53I would do that. Yeah.
- 1:52:55When we go to Nashville, for whatever reason we might go,
- 1:52:58that's what we're doing. Yeah, you can see that in the
- 1:53:01memories. Only section, yeah.
- 1:53:03Two individual Miami workouts for Wadapalooza.
- 1:53:08No easy way down intervals. 4 sets of three minutes on, one
- 1:53:12minute off of descending calorie row wall balls and legless rope
- 1:53:19climbs. So 40443033202210101.
- 1:53:25The wall balls are 30 lbs. So.
- 1:53:28Different different workout. You get caught like.
- 1:53:34You're going to get caught in the first round.
- 1:53:37The first 3 minutes, yeah. Then you pick up where you left
- 1:53:40off the second. So like if let's say you
- 1:53:42finished one legless rope climb the second interval, you'd start
- 1:53:46with the the second legless rope climb 3rd and 4th, then move
- 1:53:50back onto the row. This is a cool workout I.
- 1:53:56Think it'll be pretty interesting because the last one
- 1:53:57you'll probably have to go through the last two rounds or
- 1:54:01the wall balls. Heavy.
- 1:54:02Yeah, yeah, 30 lbs. The rope climb is probably not
- 1:54:0715 feet, I think it's probably the more the semifinals regional
- 1:54:10style rig, so probably 14 feet. Right.
- 1:54:14Unless they got something special, but something cool
- 1:54:20little different. Test recovery ability.
- 1:54:21I wouldn't have programmed it at 30.
- 1:54:25At the £30 wall balls. Yeah, I.
- 1:54:28Think that'll be a good one though.
- 1:54:29Dude, I think it'd be hard to make it through the whole thing.
- 1:54:32Yeah, I think so. I'm just.
- 1:54:34Trying to figure that out because you got 12 minutes of
- 1:54:36work with the one minute rest, I think you can get done in like
- 1:54:4010 minutes, nine and a half, 10 minutes.
- 1:54:42I mean 40 Cal, say if you're going at 20 Cal, which is
- 1:54:47moving. Yeah, that's 5 minutes.
- 1:54:50Till unbroken wall balls is you're at 10, you're at 10 wall
- 1:54:54balls on the first set, 10 wall balls left.
- 1:54:58Yeah. And then 10 wall balls plus 4
- 1:55:01legless. I would say that's two minutes
- 1:55:04and then 30 Cal row. You're probably not sprinting
- 1:55:07the 30 Cal row at that time. So let's say you have 20 cows in
- 1:55:12it and that's what you held the first time.
- 1:55:13So now you have 10 Cal row with the two sets left, 30 wall
- 1:55:18balls, 10 Cal row, 3 legless rope climb.
- 1:55:20By that time, I mean, I think, I think that takes all three
- 1:55:23minutes. But like, you're really good
- 1:55:25people could probably finish the row in three.
- 1:55:27Minutes. They'll get into the row, yeah,
- 1:55:30and then they could finish the last.
- 1:55:32Then 20 Wawa 2 legless and then the 10.
- 1:55:37And I think they, I think they roll faster than, I think they
- 1:55:39roll faster than the 20. I don't know, especially at the
- 1:55:42intervals. Like you're good, people like
- 1:55:45these are. This is for the event, right?
- 1:55:46The actual event. Yeah, I'm saying like they row,
- 1:55:49I think they row like 25 cows a minute.
- 1:55:52This is not a qualifier event, right?
- 1:55:53I'm saying it's. This is the first workout, yeah,
- 1:55:56on Thursday of Wadapalooza. This is just this seems like
- 1:55:58it's just a really hard workout for your your regular persons
- 1:56:02on. I think it separates who's going
- 1:56:05to win and who's not right here. I like that.
- 1:56:09Assumption. Oh, oh, just for like the top
- 1:56:13heat. Like if you look at the
- 1:56:14correlation, if you look at the correlation like somebody that's
- 1:56:16in the top, there's only going to be 20 athletes.
- 1:56:19So it's not a huge field, but I think somebody, whoever, you
- 1:56:23have to be top five in this to win it.
- 1:56:26I don't have to be. For me, it seems like a big boy
- 1:56:27workout because you get you get minutes of rest and there's 10
- 1:56:32legless total. Like you're jumping for legless.
- 1:56:35It's wall balls and it's calorie rowing and they're in a Sprint
- 1:56:38fashion. Like I think I think, yeah, I
- 1:56:41don't think, like I think the small guys hurt a lot in this
- 1:56:43workout. It's not super indicative of the
- 1:56:47winner per SE. Everything is a big guy thing if
- 1:56:53you're good at legless roll. That's what Crossfit's turned
- 1:56:55into, though. OK.
- 1:56:58But I I don't think that's indicative of your winner.
- 1:57:02I would. We'll find out.
- 1:57:06I'd learn more towards spin that I would towards you, John.
- 1:57:09It's it's, you got to have a good power output, but you also
- 1:57:13have to have good recoverability.
- 1:57:15And then like you have to be good at upper body pulling like
- 1:57:19I did. The 15 foot rope helps.
- 1:57:23But he said it would be more of a low rope.
- 1:57:26That's what I'm saying. Like I'm saying, like Colton
- 1:57:28Mertens doesn't top five this. No, he can't.
- 1:57:31That's my point and Colton Mertens.
- 1:57:32But I don't think Colton, I don't think Colton Mertens wins
- 1:57:35Wadapalooza. Do we know the field?
- 1:57:37He's a he's also like a we're getting.
- 1:57:39Closer to I don't think they've announced all of the invites
- 1:57:42yet. OK, next workout.
- 1:57:46The next and last workout that we know.
- 1:57:48Oh. We only know 2.
- 1:57:49We only know two press and impress 3 rounds for time 15
- 1:57:57dumbbell bench press 50 foot front rack dumbbell lunge 100
- 1:58:00foot handstand walk 70 pound 50 LB dumbbell short.
- 1:58:03This is hurting but. It's just I.
- 1:58:06Think the time cap was 8 minutes.
- 1:58:08That's way too long. You think yeah, people are.
- 1:58:14Gonna do the handstand walks on the on the sand.
- 1:58:16I'd be on the sand. That'd be sweet.
- 1:58:18That'd. Be wild.
- 1:58:20Do we know how many events there are going to be It's.
- 1:58:22Usually 6 or 7. It's only two days so it's got
- 1:58:25to be at most 6. This is crazy for a one event
- 1:58:29score and you just did a ton of wall balls.
- 1:58:31I think people do this sub 6. You can definitely do this sub
- 1:58:36six, but like you're just going to see who is a great like who
- 1:58:40has short arms like Colton's going to destroy this.
- 1:58:44This is this is James Sprague. Not necessarily dude, because
- 1:58:47it's still like length. It's 50 feet if it was like if
- 1:58:5215 lunges, that makes a difference.
- 1:58:54All. The only thing Colton has is
- 1:58:56this. Everything else is a bigger, a
- 1:59:01longer limbed athlete. I agree.
- 1:59:02I think this is James Sprague. All of that is James in the
- 1:59:06field. I.
- 1:59:07Think so. Like, you look at that first
- 1:59:10event, James is going to murder that first event.
- 1:59:13You look at this event, James is going to murder this event.
- 1:59:16Yeah. Oh, that's a lot of just your
- 1:59:20shoulders just tired. Not Justin.
- 1:59:24I think Justin could give her James James a run for his money
- 1:59:27on this. This is a fun workout.
- 1:59:34Just cause 15 bench press is is nothing like the bench press
- 1:59:37doesn't it's literally it's it's to fatigue you.
- 1:59:42Yeah, if if the bench press was like that's the crux, then not
- 1:59:45only Justin would, but this is. All to get people.
- 1:59:48James is confirmed. James is confirmed.
- 1:59:50Hatfield's confirmed. Awesome will be great at this
- 1:59:54but I think James takes takes him to school on the first one.
- 1:59:57Yeah. Right.
- 2:00:02This is all set up in that last round so that they get to the
- 2:00:04100 foot handstand, walk and fail and I don't.
- 2:00:06Think it's guaranteed. I I think James beats Austin in
- 2:00:09this one just because that lunch, like he's going to get a
- 2:00:12little bit of a lead on the lunge every time.
- 2:00:18Yeah, but you got to hold those dumbbells right here.
- 2:00:20You you don't need James to do that.
- 2:00:22James No, he can. It's just like.
- 2:00:26Tyler, Speaking of personal experience, anything?
- 2:00:28Yeah, right on, bell lunges. Wondering.
- 2:00:30No, I'm terrible Lunger. No, I mean it's good.
- 2:00:34So this is this is it's presented by rain.
- 2:00:37So last year when they moved it, rain's was the IT was it was the
- 2:00:41rain sandbox. So I'm saying like this would be
- 2:00:44crazy if it was 100 foot sand, hand handstand walk on the sand.
- 2:00:49It's hard sand though, so it'd be fine.
- 2:00:52They should. They should brand the dumbbells
- 2:00:57with rain. Just on the on the end.
- 2:01:00Yeah, yeah, on the ends. Does that mean Hopper will be
- 2:01:03doing it because he's a rain athlete?
- 2:01:06I don't know if he's they've not announced Topper yet.
- 2:01:09I always got invited, but I don't think he has, at least
- 2:01:13it's not been announced. I do.
- 2:01:16Let me see. That's all for Wadapalooza.
- 2:01:19I just wanted to bring it up because they're starting to
- 2:01:21announce the workouts and should go buy some tickets.
- 2:01:24Is this 12? Yeah. 1-2 like OK.
- 2:01:29Wow, I believe I believe that. Yeah, Workout 1 and 2.
- 2:01:33Is Laura doing water Palooza because she would destroy every
- 2:01:39person in the first one. Yes, I do want to call your
- 2:01:45attention. If you are going to be around
- 2:01:47South Carolina in April or want to, you should go sign up now.
- 2:01:56There's one spot left for a couple, the student ID, same sex
- 2:02:02intermediate, a couple spots left male and female for the
- 2:02:05learner's permit, same sex advanced and a couple of
- 2:02:09masters. So.
- 2:02:13Learner's permit. What is this?
- 2:02:17Got it. Got it.
- 2:02:19Spring Break edition. OK, that's right.
- 2:02:21That's. Right.
- 2:02:22I might even go there. I'm thinking about going you.
