- 8:19[SPEAKER_00]: Today we have Carrie for Bruce on the show.
- 8:21[SPEAKER_00]: Welcome Carrie.
- 8:23[SPEAKER_00]: Hi, thank you.
- 8:24[SPEAKER_00]: Thanks for having me.
- 8:25[SPEAKER_00]: I'm excited that you're here.
- 8:26[SPEAKER_00]: I cannot wait to dive into all things.
- 8:29[SPEAKER_00]: Girl, like everything you talk about, about like burnout, like instant gratification, like your book all in the working moms on a polygetic quest for a juicy life.
- 8:40[SPEAKER_00]: Like.
- 8:41[SPEAKER_00]: Dude, you are speaking my language.
- 8:44[SPEAKER_00]: John, I'm so glad this is cool.
- 8:48[SPEAKER_00]: So you're a mom or busy, how old are you kids?
- 8:52[SPEAKER_04]: How many do you have?
- 8:53[SPEAKER_04]: I have two.
- 8:53[SPEAKER_04]: I have almost a 15-year-old son, Lucas, and a 13-year-old daughter, Lala.
- 8:58[SPEAKER_04]: So we are in the thick of teenage and middle school.
- 9:02[SPEAKER_04]: And having so much fun, having so much fun.
- 9:04[SPEAKER_00]: So fun.
- 9:05[SPEAKER_00]: I'm right there with you, like we are, we are the same age bracket and it's man, there is no baby book for like how to raise your kids once they start to become these many adults and it's crazy how much you learn to of wow what I do and the life that I live.
- 9:26[SPEAKER_00]: holy shit balls.
- 9:28[SPEAKER_00]: It is directly impacting their life like I am teaching them how to be an adult.
- 9:34[SPEAKER_00]: I am teaching them what is important, you know, where our priority should lie and for me with like health and fitness and stuff.
- 9:41[SPEAKER_00]: I'm like
- 9:42[SPEAKER_00]: I'm teaching them what their norm is.
- 9:44[SPEAKER_00]: Like if I want to raise norm too, this is what Helkin looks like, by the way.
- 9:48[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, no one else is going to do it.
- 9:51[SPEAKER_00]: And you probably see it too.
- 9:52[SPEAKER_00]: You're out on social media.
- 9:53[SPEAKER_00]: You're out there doing it.
- 9:54[SPEAKER_00]: If we don't show them, they will find it from somewhere else.
- 9:57[SPEAKER_00]: They will find a norm or someone to look up to somewhere else.
- 10:02[SPEAKER_00]: Crazy.
- 10:03[SPEAKER_04]: No, it is, and our generation is having to raise kids like no other generation before us, because when you speak about instant gratification, my God.
- 10:11[SPEAKER_04]: Like this next generation is like, they don't understand commercials.
- 10:16[SPEAKER_04]: But we'll just fast forward it to skip it.
- 10:18[SPEAKER_04]: I'm like, well, I can't actually, now that I'm watching HBO and they want me to watch this 15 second commercial.
- 10:24[SPEAKER_04]: So the instant gratification is something that is alive and well with our kids for sure.
- 10:29[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's crazy.
- 10:30[SPEAKER_00]: We're definitely going to dive into that and like the difference between that Instagram vacation and long-term achievement and like how that's the goal.
- 10:37[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, man, we swipe, we call, we dial, we text and we get everything now and it is just it messes with our heads and it's so funny because then I see that in the fitness world too and people are like, well, I ate a salad for two weeks straight for dinner.
- 10:54[SPEAKER_00]: Where are my apps?
- 10:57[SPEAKER_04]: Oh, why do I still have this gut?
- 10:59[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 11:00[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 11:01[SPEAKER_00]: Totally.
- 11:02[SPEAKER_00]: Kerry, so I got to know, like, how did this become what you do?
- 11:06[SPEAKER_00]: What you focus on, and this is like your career.
- 11:09[SPEAKER_00]: I've got to know your story and how this started out for you.
- 11:12[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 11:13[SPEAKER_04]: So I have been running career frame for a decade now, where an executive coaching leadership development firm.
- 11:20[SPEAKER_04]: And this, if you would have talked to me 12 years ago, I would have thought you were crazy, saying that this is where I was going to be, come 2026.
- 11:30[SPEAKER_04]: I actually grew up in the travel industry or to travel acidity, at Google, at Saber.
- 11:34[SPEAKER_04]: It started my leadership career at Google.
- 11:37[SPEAKER_04]: back in the early 2000s and loved what I did.
- 11:40[SPEAKER_04]: I was always over account management and sales and really love of the account management piece.
- 11:46[SPEAKER_04]: It's just the relationship building with clients and such.
- 11:49[SPEAKER_04]: I had a chance to step out for a minute to be mom and it lasted a minute.
- 11:54[SPEAKER_04]: Meaning I loved my children but I was like, you know, I had a team that actually listened to me and now I've
- 12:02[SPEAKER_04]: So I was really in that moment that I had a unique opportunity to ask myself if I could do anything what would it be.
- 12:11[SPEAKER_04]: And I allowed myself to just go anywhere and everywhere, just dream, just pick something.
- 12:15[SPEAKER_04]: You know, but it wasn't, I want to go lead travel tours in France.
- 12:18[SPEAKER_04]: It wasn't, I want to be an artist.
- 12:19[SPEAKER_04]: It was, I really love leadership.
- 12:22[SPEAKER_04]: And I wonder if I could help other leaders be better because there's a lot of people that are top for leadership.
- 12:27[SPEAKER_04]: And they don't,
- 12:28[SPEAKER_04]: know what they're doing.
- 12:29[SPEAKER_04]: They're great at what they do.
- 12:31[SPEAKER_04]: The thing, the technical skills, they're not great at the human skills.
- 12:36[SPEAKER_04]: And I had some pretty amazing teams, virtual teams, remote before that was a thing, high performing.
- 12:42[SPEAKER_04]: We were very close.
- 12:44[SPEAKER_04]: We had each other's back.
- 12:45[SPEAKER_04]: And so I was like, I think I think I kind of know what I'm doing.
- 12:48[SPEAKER_04]: So let me just try this.
- 12:49[SPEAKER_04]: Now, there are a lot of us out there that will just go, I'm going to be a coach.
- 12:55[SPEAKER_04]: Let it be so.
- 12:56[SPEAKER_04]: And I was one of those people.
- 12:58[SPEAKER_04]: It's so true.
- 12:59[SPEAKER_04]: So true.
- 13:00[SPEAKER_04]: And I was one of those people.
- 13:01[SPEAKER_04]: And so I'm like, but I don't want to be one of those people.
- 13:04[SPEAKER_04]: So when I had this idea, I'm like, I actually would like to be taken seriously.
- 13:08[SPEAKER_04]: I want to make sure I've studied this.
- 13:10[SPEAKER_04]: I have some credentials that people aren't just hiring my ego.
- 13:14[SPEAKER_04]: And so I went and got
- 13:16[SPEAKER_04]: Certified with Gallic Clifon Strengths and became a Clifon Strengths coach, again, been doing that since 2016.
- 13:22[SPEAKER_04]: Got certified emotional intelligence, also with situational leadership, with the Center for Leadership Studies, soon to have my ICF certification come May.
- 13:31[SPEAKER_04]: And study the lot, read a lot, got my own coaches, worked with them, learned from them.
- 13:36[SPEAKER_04]: And I've just been having an absolute blast ever since.
- 13:39[SPEAKER_04]: And we have a small, but very mighty awesome team at Career Frame.
- 13:42[SPEAKER_04]: And so we really are a team based approach.
- 13:45[SPEAKER_04]: I tend to focus on C Suite, SVP is a senior leaders, and all of the workshop group facilitation and tough stuff.
- 13:53[SPEAKER_04]: And then we have three ever just awesome coaches that will step in to do the one on one stuff.
- 13:59[SPEAKER_04]: I will do the one on one stuff.
- 14:00[SPEAKER_04]: We'll get again a little bit more at the senior level.
- 14:02[SPEAKER_04]: We love what we do.
- 14:02[SPEAKER_04]: We have a lot of fun and yeah, it was a passion pivot as I call it.
- 14:07[SPEAKER_04]: And I've been more successful doing this than I was in the travel industry.
- 14:10[SPEAKER_04]: So I guess I got to accept that right.
- 14:12[SPEAKER_00]: Well, now that I'm like hearing more about your story, now I understand why you wrote the book, like how you could write the book all in.
- 14:20[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 14:21[SPEAKER_00]: What you see as a coach.
- 14:24[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 14:24[SPEAKER_00]: And what you learn, I mean, you're in it, right?
- 14:27[SPEAKER_00]: You're down the trenches.
- 14:28[SPEAKER_00]: You're in it up to your eyeballs.
- 14:30[SPEAKER_00]: You see what people need, what they struggle with.
- 14:33[SPEAKER_00]: No wonder you wrote a book.
- 14:35[SPEAKER_04]: yeah i uh... yeah it and it's the book i i had uh... it was a surprising journey to write it i did not have a writing
- 14:44[SPEAKER_04]: Discipline it was very intuitive written like if I felt it right it if I didn't I wouldn't and so just really I just let it go for me.
- 14:51[SPEAKER_04]: Oh, yeah Yeah, it's it's kind of been more ish if you will it takes the the reader through six year journey of where I was completely frustrated wanting to be You know in all in mom and really wanting a career as well, and I needed to go on this journey to find out how do I do both
- 15:08[SPEAKER_04]: and do both well at a level that feels good to me.
- 15:11[SPEAKER_04]: Right.
- 15:12[SPEAKER_04]: You know what I mean?
- 15:13[SPEAKER_04]: And so it was just that journey of going from completely frustrated straight through fear to Helen back, all of through all the pain, through all the hard work I needed to do on myself and really found this just joy and fun on the other side.
- 15:28[SPEAKER_00]: I love it.
- 15:29[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 15:29[SPEAKER_00]: And that's tough.
- 15:30[SPEAKER_00]: Like it is people don't talk about how hard it is to be a mom and like live up to the standards of like a good mom is.
- 15:38[SPEAKER_00]: And you know for me I grew up watching my mom's job and who only focus was like us kids.
- 15:46[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 15:47[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 15:47[SPEAKER_00]: And that was it.
- 15:48[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm like, okay, me be good mom means home available all the time.
- 15:52[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 15:54[SPEAKER_04]: You know, it's interesting.
- 15:55[SPEAKER_04]: Just hearing you say that just now in this moment, I'd started like how to click reflection.
- 15:59[SPEAKER_04]: So my mom passed away when I was nine.
- 16:01[SPEAKER_04]: And she was a private investigator.
- 16:04[SPEAKER_04]: So there's Nancy Boren PI, which I thought was super home.
- 16:06[SPEAKER_04]: I was like, do you know Magnum?
- 16:07[SPEAKER_04]: And if you do, can I meet him?
- 16:09[SPEAKER_04]: Because he's kind of cute, monkey.
- 16:10[SPEAKER_04]: Tom Selich, for all of those that don't remember who Magnum was, right?
- 16:14[SPEAKER_04]: Uh, he's still monkey.
- 16:16[SPEAKER_04]: And I do not recall a time, except for, of course, when she was sick, right?
- 16:21[SPEAKER_04]: But I don't recall when she was home.
- 16:24[SPEAKER_04]: Anytime she wasn't,
- 16:26[SPEAKER_04]: at work all day and then came home and made dinner and woke me up every morning and took me a school and so many time to go see out in john and smoke a cigarette and drink a marina and like just as I reflect back just in this exact moment I'm like, yeah, she did it all.
- 16:40[SPEAKER_04]: She really did.
- 16:41[SPEAKER_04]: So we all can, here's the thing, is I've been on several episodes, different podcasts recently talking a lot about this book and working moms and the balance.
- 16:51[SPEAKER_04]: And I just always want to encourage people to not compare to other people.
- 16:57[SPEAKER_04]: Don't compare to yourself.
- 16:59[SPEAKER_04]: Unless it's, I really like what they're doing.
- 17:01[SPEAKER_04]: How do I do that?
- 17:03[SPEAKER_04]: That's more inspiration.
- 17:05[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 17:05[SPEAKER_04]: But if you're comparing, how do they do it?
- 17:07[SPEAKER_04]: Like, I can't do it all.
- 17:09[SPEAKER_04]: Please stop.
- 17:10[SPEAKER_00]: because seriously.
- 17:11[SPEAKER_04]: The balance and what all in means to you is what it means to you and for you.
- 17:18[SPEAKER_04]: And we all can find with that balance.
- 17:20[SPEAKER_04]: And some days it's 50, 50, 70s.
- 17:21[SPEAKER_04]: It's 90, 10, 10 days.
- 17:23[SPEAKER_04]: It's, you know, 25, 75.
- 17:24[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 17:24[SPEAKER_04]: I've got to cut ourselves some slack and journal.
- 17:26[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I warned you.
- 17:27[SPEAKER_00]: I bring everything back to like elf and fitness.
- 17:29[SPEAKER_00]: Some of you.
- 17:30[SPEAKER_00]: I love it man.
- 17:31[SPEAKER_00]: That comparison.
- 17:32[SPEAKER_00]: It just it speaks to me because I still find myself falling into that.
- 17:36[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I'll be like out the gym and like see so why that's for me.
- 17:40[SPEAKER_00]: It's her.
- 17:41[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, like she's I'm always doing this much and she's doing that much and then I'm also like.
- 17:48[SPEAKER_00]: Melissa, hey, uh, she's 20.
- 17:51[SPEAKER_00]: Your night exactly never given birth.
- 17:54[SPEAKER_00]: You have three times like exactly calm down.
- 17:59[SPEAKER_00]: You don't know her story.
- 18:00[SPEAKER_00]: You don't know what chapter she's on.
- 18:02[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I can give her some chapter 37 and she's on chapter 10.
- 18:06[SPEAKER_00]: Like, and we're trying to compare those.
- 18:07[SPEAKER_00]: 100%.
- 18:08[SPEAKER_00]: That comparison, man.
- 18:10[SPEAKER_00]: It's the root of all evil.
- 18:11[SPEAKER_00]: And yeah.
- 18:12[SPEAKER_04]: I do the same thing.
- 18:13[SPEAKER_04]: So I work out at class studios here.
- 18:15[SPEAKER_04]: I'm in Dallas and I love class studios so much as shout-outs to them.
- 18:19[SPEAKER_04]: Their community isn't I love it.
- 18:21[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, it was our fantastic.
- 18:23[SPEAKER_04]: And I mean, I became addicted to class studios because it's like working out in the nightclub with the EDM music and lighting.
- 18:29[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 18:29[SPEAKER_04]: That's infrared and I'm just like, this is amazing.
- 18:32[SPEAKER_04]: And I'm probably one of the oldest one, one of the oldest people in there.
- 18:35[SPEAKER_04]: I'm 51.
- 18:36[SPEAKER_04]: And yeah, it's predominantly, I would say, excuse me, we're in their
- 18:41[SPEAKER_04]: And so same thing, like I'm in there and I'm just like, okay, so we're jacking it out with, you know, jumping jacks and I'm like, oh god, my head.
- 18:48[SPEAKER_04]: Oh wait, I've no more tennis.
- 18:49[SPEAKER_04]: She's now.
- 18:50[SPEAKER_04]: I can't do this barefoot anymore.
- 18:51[SPEAKER_04]: Like, all these things.
- 18:53[SPEAKER_04]: And I had to check myself and just go, just what you said, Carrie, you're in for 50.
- 18:58[SPEAKER_04]: You're post-mode up puzzle.
- 19:00[SPEAKER_04]: You have had two children.
- 19:01[SPEAKER_04]: Like, and you still have kick-ass biceps and obliques.
- 19:05[SPEAKER_04]: So chill out.
- 19:06[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 19:07[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, come down.
- 19:08[SPEAKER_00]: Come around.
- 19:09[SPEAKER_00]: How about that?
- 19:10[SPEAKER_00]: How about that?
- 19:11[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 19:11[SPEAKER_00]: I bet you see a lot of people doing that with their career too and like how do you do it all?
- 19:16[SPEAKER_00]: And you know, if someone harassed him, me that, I'm always like, I don't, I don't do it all.
- 19:22[SPEAKER_00]: You're like one day at a time?
- 19:23[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 19:24[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's on the day.
- 19:26[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, sometimes I'm not.
- 19:28[SPEAKER_00]: What do you do hate though?
- 19:30[SPEAKER_00]: Like the I see often with when it comes to comparisons when you start to see people do that or if we're doing it ourselves and you see people that are like oh well she has
- 19:39[SPEAKER_00]: as this and we start listing all the things off.
- 19:41[SPEAKER_00]: And then we start going into like, well, she can only do that because her husband works and she only has two kids.
- 19:49[SPEAKER_00]: I have four.
- 19:50[SPEAKER_00]: And Victor, they go into victim and yes.
- 19:53[SPEAKER_00]: And well, she's she's five nine and I'm five four.
- 19:56[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, that's why.
- 19:58[SPEAKER_00]: And I have this and she's had that.
- 20:00[SPEAKER_00]: And it's almost like the person that
- 20:05[SPEAKER_00]: Queen, someone what you're doing.
- 20:08[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, how do we learn from this?
- 20:09[SPEAKER_00]: Like what you were originally saying?
- 20:11[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, exactly.
- 20:12[SPEAKER_00]: We're stretching them of their hard work that they've deserved in the day early.
- 20:16[SPEAKER_00]: And we're like trying to come up with these ways of like, well, they only had that because of this.
- 20:21[SPEAKER_00]: Or she only goes to the gym and has time to do it because of her job.
- 20:25[SPEAKER_04]: Well, and you and I both know that that is all about that person.
- 20:29[SPEAKER_04]: that's nothing to do with the one they're calling out.
- 20:32[SPEAKER_04]: And as a matter of fact, everything they're saying about the other person is a direct reflection of what they're saying about themselves.
- 20:40[SPEAKER_04]: And yeah, so it's like five years of my family, I would just be like, look at you with all
- 20:44[SPEAKER_04]: your team will excuse me.
- 20:46[SPEAKER_04]: How's that working for ya?
- 20:48[SPEAKER_04]: Like how is that working for you?
- 20:49[SPEAKER_04]: Exactly.
- 20:50[SPEAKER_04]: And to your point, it's like, is there a reason why we're not celebrating this other person?
- 20:54[SPEAKER_04]: We have to put them down to make them make ourselves feel better.
- 20:57[SPEAKER_04]: There's this amazing book by Wallace Waddels written in the 20s.
- 21:01[SPEAKER_04]: called the science of getting rich.
- 21:02[SPEAKER_04]: And I'm going to I'm going to leadership group and we do this book club around this book.
- 21:07[SPEAKER_04]: And one of the biggest alhaz from this book, massive shift for me, because there's a lot of us executive coaches out there.
- 21:14[SPEAKER_04]: There's a lot of us, clinton strings coaches.
- 21:17[SPEAKER_04]: There's a lot of us, which yes, right?
- 21:19[SPEAKER_04]: This book talks about
- 21:21[SPEAKER_04]: competition versus creation.
- 21:23[SPEAKER_04]: And when I was reading this the first time ever the book three or four times now, but the first time I was like, mine blown.
- 21:30[SPEAKER_04]: And like, that's totally it.
- 21:32[SPEAKER_04]: Like, what is meant to be mine is going to be mine.
- 21:37[SPEAKER_04]: And what is meant to be yours is not going to be mine.
- 21:42[SPEAKER_04]: And I, I must celebrate you for yours.
- 21:46[SPEAKER_04]: And if you celebrate me for mine, awesome.
- 21:47[SPEAKER_04]: If you don't, that's okay too.
- 21:49[SPEAKER_04]: When we shift to this creation and collaboration versus competition, you just like lift the energy in the room in the, you know,
- 21:58[SPEAKER_04]: There's a lot of people that don't do that because they go into victim mentality.
- 22:03[SPEAKER_04]: And again, that's for their own trauma in their own reason.
- 22:05[SPEAKER_04]: And they're just reflecting back to the world how they really feel about themselves.
- 22:09[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 22:11[SPEAKER_00]: And it helps you evaluate who should be in your life.
- 22:13[SPEAKER_00]: Who should be?
- 22:14[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 22:15[SPEAKER_00]: Who is an energy.
- 22:17[SPEAKER_00]: Drainer and energy stealer, you know, who fills your bucket who doesn't, which brings me to like the energy audit.
- 22:24[SPEAKER_00]: You talk about this and like really identifying energy leaks in your life.
- 22:31[SPEAKER_00]: I love that verbage to like energy leaks because I don't think we realize how many we have.
- 22:39[SPEAKER_00]: Yep.
- 22:39[SPEAKER_00]: And different things that take from us, you know, and and then we don't replenish.
- 22:45[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, so we can talk about the energy audit.
- 22:49[SPEAKER_04]: There's another way to look at it, too, that this one is not mine, and I apologize in advance, I can't remember where I read it.
- 22:56[SPEAKER_04]: It's a friction audit, which is a similar way of looking at energy leak audit.
- 23:01[SPEAKER_04]: Okay, and it is really about writing down the things that are causing friction in your life.
- 23:08[SPEAKER_04]: And when you write those things down, then it's like that translete into energy leak, because it's causing friction.
- 23:17[SPEAKER_04]: So when we're talking about energy, and I talk a lot about ROE return on energy, this is what we're investing in, so we all know about ROE, okay?
- 23:26[SPEAKER_04]: What are we investing our energy in, and what does there return on that energy?
- 23:30[SPEAKER_04]: Just like if we invest money, we get our turn, we hope to get our turn on that money.
- 23:37[SPEAKER_04]: And I think a lot of us are hardcore achievers.
- 23:40[SPEAKER_04]: So we're just good, do, do, do this, do that.
- 23:43[SPEAKER_04]: And we're going so fast, we don't pause enough to just stop, think, feel, observe.
- 23:50[SPEAKER_04]: And when we do that from time to time, and if you do it every day, that's amazing.
- 23:55[SPEAKER_04]: If you don't, that's okay.
- 23:56[SPEAKER_04]: But if you do it from time to time, you really allow yourself to stop and just go, what is causing friction in my life right now?
- 24:04[SPEAKER_04]: And then you go, so when we're talking about the audit, the energy auditors are with my vibe checklists, which is verify that the feeling, look at the impact, balance the cost, and then you either eliminate or execute.
- 24:15[SPEAKER_04]: Oh, I got to love it on this thing, whatever the thing is, and you can apply it to anything personally professionally.
- 24:22[SPEAKER_04]: And so when you look at these things, these feelings, these actions, these thoughts, and you take time to realize, is this causing friction in my life and if so, then how is this causing a week?
- 24:33[SPEAKER_04]: It's causing friction.
- 24:35[SPEAKER_04]: hate it so much and I can absolutely see why it's a must.
- 24:39[SPEAKER_04]: I hate this job.
- 24:40[SPEAKER_04]: I got to go to work.
- 24:41[SPEAKER_04]: I need the paycheck.
- 24:42[SPEAKER_04]: I'm broke.
- 24:44[SPEAKER_04]: Okay.
- 24:44[SPEAKER_04]: We hear that story a lot.
- 24:46[SPEAKER_04]: You can always go get a different job.
- 24:47[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, that is the reality.
- 24:49[SPEAKER_04]: No matter how many excuses someone gives, like you can't always go get another job.
- 24:54[SPEAKER_04]: A lot of people feel really stuck.
- 24:56[SPEAKER_04]: And they're like, because I broke and I have to get, I need benefits, I need to paycheck.
- 25:00[SPEAKER_04]: And that is real.
- 25:01[SPEAKER_04]: So there are some things that when you do pause to look at the friction and you do pause and you do the vibe checklist, some things you are going to still need to do to be responsible.
- 25:11[SPEAKER_04]: This is a big topic in my book.
- 25:13[SPEAKER_04]: I experienced that.
- 25:14[SPEAKER_04]: Having to do what was responsible versus doing what I really wanted to do.
- 25:19[SPEAKER_04]: And so we all I think have some version of that.
- 25:23[SPEAKER_04]: information is power.
- 25:24[SPEAKER_04]: Knowledge is power.
- 25:25[SPEAKER_04]: And if you're pausing and you are allowing yourself to get this information about how you're running your life, that's how you make the shifts and that's how you grow to make sure you do have that juicy life as my book talks about.
- 25:39[SPEAKER_00]: Hey, Bond Life Fam, I have a question for you.
- 25:41[SPEAKER_00]: Are you the kind of person who crushes it at work?
- 25:43[SPEAKER_00]: Shows up for your family, checks out every to-do list.
- 25:46[SPEAKER_00]: But when it comes to your fitness, you're energy and your confidence.
- 25:49[SPEAKER_00]: It feels like something's missing.
- 25:51[SPEAKER_00]: You might be doing the workouts listening to all the right podcasts.
- 25:53[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you are listening to this one.
- 25:55[SPEAKER_00]: But deep down, you know you're just kind of going through the motions and you're done playing small in this area of life.
- 26:00[SPEAKER_00]: That's exactly why I created Fit Mind Coaching.
- 26:03[SPEAKER_00]: My private one-on-one program for high-achieving women and men who are ready to level up.
- 26:07[SPEAKER_00]: This isn't just another fitness plan, this is about building the body and the mindset to match the life you're working so damn hard for, because success in business means nothing if you're hiding in hoodies, avoiding mirrors, or dragging through your day was your energy.
- 26:21[SPEAKER_00]: Or, showing up on Zoom meetings, feeling good from the chest up, but praying no one ever sees what's going on below the screen.
- 26:27[SPEAKER_00]: We're talking about fat loss, muscle building, and real confidence that bleeds into every area of your life.
- 26:32[SPEAKER_00]: Your boredom, your bedroom, and your parenting.
- 26:34[SPEAKER_00]: You want it all?
- 26:35[SPEAKER_00]: Good.
- 26:35[SPEAKER_00]: You should have it all.
- 26:36[SPEAKER_00]: Let's go.
- 26:37[SPEAKER_00]: Click the link in the show notes and book your free call with me today.
- 26:40[SPEAKER_00]: Let's build the strongest, most confident version of you inside and out.
- 26:44[SPEAKER_00]: You're ready for more, and I'm ready to show you how, back to the show.
- 26:48[SPEAKER_00]: Well, and no one, no one teaches us these things, Kerry.
- 26:51[SPEAKER_00]: Like,
- 26:52[SPEAKER_00]: I want to teach you all this one.
- 26:54[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, please do.
- 26:56[SPEAKER_00]: But I mean, I do the very basic, like with my kids, I feel like right now and like, where is your energy going towards?
- 27:03[SPEAKER_00]: What people are taking from you?
- 27:05[SPEAKER_00]: Do you remember that book?
- 27:07[SPEAKER_00]: Be a bucket filler, or are you a bucket filler, or something like that?
- 27:11[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, because of it.
- 27:12[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 27:13[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, every one of your queries.
- 27:13[SPEAKER_00]: Feel like a bucket.
- 27:14[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, every one carries an invisible bucket.
- 27:16[SPEAKER_00]: That's what this reminds me of.
- 27:18[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 27:19[SPEAKER_04]: And like you know it's so great is I bought on a new client last year and I'm actually going to look over here.
- 27:24[SPEAKER_04]: It's a it's a drop a drop in your bucket is actually I don't know if that's the name of the book but this thing I'm looking at on my wall.
- 27:31[SPEAKER_04]: It says a drop in your bucket and it's from that and it basically my new clients sent me a note basically saying we're so excited to partner with you at career frame.
- 27:39[SPEAKER_04]: You just put a drop in our bucket and I was like.
- 27:43[SPEAKER_04]: Amazing was that right how amazing was that and I just was like that's so great But that's also a very that's very string space the drop in your bucket.
- 27:52[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, okay Tell me more about this checklist like and result what will it identify for us and and end up showing us?
- 27:59[SPEAKER_04]: The goal is by the time you get to E, it will help you decide in the term in if you're going to eliminate something or execute on something.
- 28:07[SPEAKER_03]: Okay.
- 28:08[SPEAKER_04]: Again, sometimes the execution sucks as the responsible thing that we have to do in the moment.
- 28:15[SPEAKER_04]: Okay, so even those things are temporary and I think that's important for us to look at that is this is not for ever we're all we're we're in seasons sometimes we got to do the hard things we can do hard things and order to get to that place again I was talking about in the book I had that chapter of responsibility and order to get to where I am now so I'm not yes, I'm still going to be responsible for it and provide for my family but now I'm doing it.
- 28:38[SPEAKER_04]: with what I want to do.
- 28:39[SPEAKER_04]: And I'm doing it having fun.
- 28:40[SPEAKER_04]: Whereas before it was staying in a corporate job, no matter how much I adored my boss and my team and the company, I just wasn't aligned with where I needed to be.
- 28:48[SPEAKER_04]: And that was my own personal stuffness.
- 28:52[SPEAKER_04]: And so the checklist just helps you think through things, write it down.
- 28:57[SPEAKER_04]: So you're actually spending time like taking inventory of this stuff again.
- 29:01[SPEAKER_04]: We don't slow down enough to take that action.
- 29:05[SPEAKER_04]: So it's just the taking action of doing this checklist and then you land with am I going to do this or am I not going to do this and if I'm not going to do this does it's only to be done can I delegate it to somebody can I delay it it's just helping you manage your energy and again do you need in certification are you going to get instant gratification from this or is it going to be down the road I mean one example I give with return on energy is like a startup.
- 29:33[SPEAKER_04]: When someone's a startup entrepreneur, very seldom do you get an instant, you just started your company and you exited in 12 months, right?
- 29:41[SPEAKER_04]: Don't think that happens, right?
- 29:43[SPEAKER_04]: So that's like a long, long term, a long play.
- 29:46[SPEAKER_04]: So it just really helps you slow down and think.
- 29:48[SPEAKER_04]: It just gives you some structure and a framework to to get to an end results.
- 29:52[SPEAKER_04]: So you know what action to take.
- 29:54[SPEAKER_04]: I'm very big about we can talk all day long.
- 29:57[SPEAKER_04]: So what are you doing?
- 29:58[SPEAKER_04]: the say do ratio.
- 30:00[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 30:00[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 30:01[SPEAKER_00]: People can talk and say I should and they sure all over the place.
- 30:04[SPEAKER_00]: I should do this.
- 30:04[SPEAKER_00]: I need to do this.
- 30:06[SPEAKER_00]: If you should you're sitting.
- 30:07[SPEAKER_00]: That's yeah.
- 30:08[SPEAKER_00]: Where's the action?
- 30:10[SPEAKER_00]: Where is that?
- 30:11[SPEAKER_04]: Another question I've asked myself.
- 30:13[SPEAKER_04]: This is actually the book I wanted to write.
- 30:15[SPEAKER_04]: And then this publisher was like, it's also an except right.
- 30:18[SPEAKER_04]: I hear like nine different stories within this one thing.
- 30:20[SPEAKER_04]: I was like, okay, well, maybe this is not the path.
- 30:23[SPEAKER_04]: Arlin, they're being the result, but I started with this question around how serious are you.
- 30:27[SPEAKER_04]: And I would ask myself this a lot and then I would ask clients, says, I'm like, well, Sarah's about what?
- 30:31[SPEAKER_04]: I'm like, the thing you keep talking about, you know, we're bictionary and moaning about, but not doing anything about.
- 30:38[SPEAKER_04]: Either do something with it and not doing something is doing something.
- 30:44[SPEAKER_00]: Yep.
- 30:44[SPEAKER_04]: Just please stop talking about it because the talking doesn't do anything.
- 30:49[SPEAKER_04]: It's the action that we have to do.
- 30:50[SPEAKER_04]: So how serious are you about this thing that you keep talking about?
- 30:54[SPEAKER_04]: Right.
- 30:55[SPEAKER_04]: If you're serious, take action.
- 30:56[SPEAKER_04]: If you're not serious, that's okay, too.
- 30:58[SPEAKER_04]: But just move on.
- 30:59[SPEAKER_04]: Just room and need to go in circles.
- 31:01[SPEAKER_00]: Well, and like really re-evaluate that because there's so many people that are like, this is what I want.
- 31:08[SPEAKER_00]: And the talk talk talk is like, way up here, but their willing is way down here.
- 31:13[SPEAKER_00]: What they're actually willing to do, like there's that massive gap.
- 31:17[SPEAKER_00]: I see that all the time.
- 31:18[SPEAKER_00]: And it's like,
- 31:19[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe we need to adjust what you truly want and like or that like that goal that you're after.
- 31:24[SPEAKER_00]: So there's not that big of a gap.
- 31:25[SPEAKER_00]: And then it's actually more achievable.
- 31:27[SPEAKER_04]: Well, it's stopping and asking that.
- 31:28[SPEAKER_04]: Okay.
- 31:29[SPEAKER_04]: Awesome.
- 31:29[SPEAKER_04]: That sounds great.
- 31:30[SPEAKER_04]: Why do you want it?
- 31:32[SPEAKER_04]: Because back to achievers.
- 31:34[SPEAKER_04]: We go from what to how and why is where the answers are.
- 31:37[SPEAKER_04]: And sometimes it's like seven-wise deep, right?
- 31:40[SPEAKER_04]: But if we're not asked, yes, but if we don't know why we're doing Sunday, I mean, so, and I will say this in the workshops I do, the physical that you know, when I'm facilitating a group or a conference or anything like that, I'm like, all of this stuff sounds awesome.
- 31:54[SPEAKER_04]: That's really great.
- 31:56[SPEAKER_04]: I'm sure your ego loves it.
- 31:57[SPEAKER_04]: Hmm, why are you doing this?
- 31:59[SPEAKER_04]: Why do you feel this way?
- 32:00[SPEAKER_04]: Why are you saying this?
- 32:02[SPEAKER_04]: Why are you thinking this?
- 32:03[SPEAKER_04]: Like do you actually know?
- 32:05[SPEAKER_04]: Pretend there's no right or wrong answer.
- 32:06[SPEAKER_04]: I just want your authentic answer.
- 32:08[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 32:09[SPEAKER_04]: Because once I get the why, then it's like, okay, keep going, keep going.
- 32:13[SPEAKER_04]: Okay, why now?
- 32:13[SPEAKER_04]: But why that?
- 32:14[SPEAKER_04]: Just expand expand.
- 32:16[SPEAKER_04]: And then that's when the clarity starts to come.
- 32:18[SPEAKER_04]: Clarity's on the come with movement.
- 32:19[SPEAKER_04]: Whether it be movement of thoughts, movement of literally a one foot for the other.
- 32:23[SPEAKER_04]: But that's when the clarity is in the calm of now, can you get there?
- 32:27[SPEAKER_04]: Because once you know the why, you'll start to understand how, then you'll start to measure, how hard is this going to be?
- 32:34[SPEAKER_04]: They're really going to put this much effort into it.
- 32:36[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 32:36[SPEAKER_04]: Is this really just sound good?
- 32:38[SPEAKER_04]: Is this my ego?
- 32:39[SPEAKER_04]: Or do I really want to do this?
- 32:41[SPEAKER_04]: Because I have a very strong belief that if it truly matters to you, you will do it.
- 32:47[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 32:48[SPEAKER_04]: And sometimes people don't like hearing that.
- 32:50[SPEAKER_04]: Well, it matters, does it?
- 32:51[SPEAKER_04]: Cause I'm not seeing any action.
- 32:53[SPEAKER_04]: And again, again, that's okay.
- 32:55[SPEAKER_04]: That's completely okay.
- 32:57[SPEAKER_04]: You get your really matters.
- 32:58[SPEAKER_04]: You, you're going to find a way.
- 33:00[SPEAKER_04]: You'll get done.
- 33:01[SPEAKER_04]: Don't worry.
- 33:03[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah.
- 33:03[SPEAKER_00]: absolutely.
- 33:04[SPEAKER_00]: That's so crazy.
- 33:04[SPEAKER_00]: You're you're like saying this right now.
- 33:06[SPEAKER_00]: Literally last night I did a team call and I coach for about 30 minutes and then I leaned the yoga and we ground ourselves and we stretch and everything and last night was all about our why.
- 33:18[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm like, we, I feel like we've gotten away from this.
- 33:21[SPEAKER_00]: We really need to come back and reconnect and get stuff done.
- 33:25[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 33:25[SPEAKER_00]: And I was very vulnerable.
- 33:27[SPEAKER_00]: And I had written out like my whole like, why statement.
- 33:30[SPEAKER_00]: And mine was pertaining to health and fitness and working out.
- 33:33[SPEAKER_00]: Like, that was the topic we were talking about.
- 33:35[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 33:35[SPEAKER_00]: And I, I got so much clarity because mine has shifted.
- 33:39[SPEAKER_00]: And I bet you see that, too, of like, your why starts out as something.
- 33:43[SPEAKER_00]: But then as you get deeper or achieve certain things, that shifts.
- 33:46[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 33:47[SPEAKER_00]: And part of my why I was like, I want to share this with you guys and I want to be vulnerable with you because you never know what it might trigger inside of you or be like, oh my god, like I never even thought that before and some big parts for me were talking about just power and strength and having that and being someone who was involved in a domestic violence situation and like, I talked about like,
- 34:09[SPEAKER_00]: I want the ability to actually push like when I leg press I hate the fucking leg press like I don't want to do it but now when I dig deep and I start using that why I'm like I want you guys to understand how powerful your why can't be and in those moments it literally guides me to like you're gonna push
- 34:27[SPEAKER_00]: you're going to do more than what you thought you could do because that's what you're letting you know guide you in that moment and just and then just going into the children and like raising these humans or the humans with these many adults now and like yeah man if I don't show them who will who know yeah
- 34:46[SPEAKER_00]: You know, if you want your kids to be athletic and strong and tough and like lift that life like man, you cannot be 300 pounds on the sidelines, yelling at them.
- 34:54[SPEAKER_00]: They won't take you serious.
- 34:56[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, you got it.
- 34:57[SPEAKER_04]: You got a role model.
- 34:58[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, role model.
- 34:58[SPEAKER_04]: The way I eat.
- 35:00[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I look at my kids.
- 35:01[SPEAKER_04]: So I am into that health fitness too.
- 35:03[SPEAKER_04]: Like I care about my body and want to have energy physically.
- 35:07[SPEAKER_04]: and play mostly all the things that definitely physically.
- 35:09[SPEAKER_04]: And I'm real with them.
- 35:12[SPEAKER_04]: Like I, you know, my daughter sometimes she knows that if I'm obsessed, she always finds me in the bathroom.
- 35:17[SPEAKER_04]: And social come in there.
- 35:19[SPEAKER_04]: Mommy, okay, I'm like, I'm okay.
- 35:20[SPEAKER_04]: And then she like sits next to me and she grabs my back and I'm like, honey, I go to your sweet.
- 35:24[SPEAKER_04]: I go, just, I'm okay.
- 35:26[SPEAKER_04]: It's just more like moms cry.
- 35:28[SPEAKER_04]: Sometimes, being a mom is, it's the best job and it's the hardest job.
- 35:31[SPEAKER_04]: So sometimes, you know, we cry.
- 35:34[SPEAKER_04]: We get frustrated about things and there's super highs and there's super high highs and some really crappy lows and just showing her what it's like to be real it's like no we're I'm not perfect and I'm not going to have every hair and place and I'm not going to make it perfect.
- 35:56[SPEAKER_04]: is.
- 35:57[SPEAKER_04]: And also things that we care about, what health looks like.
- 36:00[SPEAKER_04]: You know, I always don't know.
- 36:02[SPEAKER_04]: I thought my joke.
- 36:02[SPEAKER_04]: We always say, I want them to be a healthy, happy and safe.
- 36:05[SPEAKER_04]: And he's like, safety third.
- 36:06[SPEAKER_04]: I didn't really mean it that way, but maybe.
- 36:11[SPEAKER_04]: So, so it's just, since they were little, that's, we were just healthy, happy, safe.
- 36:16[SPEAKER_04]: Like, those are the three things.
- 36:18[SPEAKER_04]: And sometimes your definition of happy is going to be different than my definition.
- 36:23[SPEAKER_04]: And that's
- 36:23[SPEAKER_04]: And I thought it's my kids all the time too, like my daughter will ask, well, mom, what do you believe?
- 36:28[SPEAKER_04]: And I'm like, I have my belief, and I can tell you all day long about what I believe.
- 36:33[SPEAKER_04]: Just as long as you know, it's my belief.
- 36:36[SPEAKER_04]: So you are absolutely, completely free to have your own belief.
- 36:39[SPEAKER_04]: And we don't have to have the same belief.
- 36:41[SPEAKER_04]: I want you to be your own person.
- 36:44[SPEAKER_04]: Okay, I think you've got, but what do you believe?
- 36:46[SPEAKER_04]: So I'll tell her.
- 36:46[SPEAKER_04]: See, I'm like, well, this is what I believe.
- 36:48[SPEAKER_04]: And again, do you agree with that?
- 36:50[SPEAKER_04]: Do you disagree with that?
- 36:51[SPEAKER_04]: What do you think?
- 36:51[SPEAKER_04]: What do you feel?
- 36:52[SPEAKER_04]: I just, raising these, these humans and, you know, young adults to be just to feel empowered.
- 36:59[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 36:59[SPEAKER_00]: You know, all that.
- 37:00[SPEAKER_00]: And I love that.
- 37:00[SPEAKER_00]: And I love that you're not like.
- 37:02[SPEAKER_00]: pushing like no because that's the that's the what I grew up in and like the home of like this is what we believe this is how we think we feel in the act and this is how you're going to too.
- 37:13[SPEAKER_04]: I mean I've been around I've definitely been around that it has shifted some relationships in my family.
- 37:19[SPEAKER_04]: We're like extended family.
- 37:21[SPEAKER_04]: Dad is Mr.
- 37:23[SPEAKER_04]: Mom and one of my best friends and my sister and I are super close it's more like extended family that yeah like.
- 37:30[SPEAKER_04]: Actually, no, I'm not going to do what you think I should be doing the way you think I should be doing it because that actually sounds a lot like your life and this is my life and this is what I want to do and you know now I'm going to I'm going to current my children this way not that way.
- 37:46[SPEAKER_04]: Thank you so much for your feedback, you know, how to think.
- 37:49[SPEAKER_04]: So it's not, it's not rejecting it or being an asshole back to them.
- 37:51[SPEAKER_04]: It's just more like, thank you.
- 37:53[SPEAKER_04]: And I'm going to do what works for me and what works for my family.
- 37:56[SPEAKER_04]: So there definitely has been some influence of that that I've had to work through and just do really settle on my settles on the right word.
- 38:03[SPEAKER_04]: Embrace embrace.
- 38:05[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 38:05[SPEAKER_04]: Embrace is embracing the Uncomfortableness with some family members because by frankly I felt rejected like if you're gonna Correct the way.
- 38:16[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, that's okay.
- 38:16[SPEAKER_04]: Then I'm just not gonna engage.
- 38:18[SPEAKER_04]: It's right there.
- 38:19[SPEAKER_04]: I'm gonna engage differently
- 38:21[SPEAKER_00]: I know there's so many people listening right now that are like, yep, I totally know this topic.
- 38:25[SPEAKER_00]: And that, that's who it was for me, like, when I, because I was married for 17 years and I ended that marriage and, you know, being a Hispanic female Catholic, you don't get divorced.
- 38:38[SPEAKER_00]: Like, what do you mean?
- 38:41[SPEAKER_00]: And it, and it was like the extended family and I'm like, look, we can agree to disagree, but until you've lived,
- 38:47[SPEAKER_04]: a day in my life or watching my shoes you know idea exactly it's like you don't know my reality don't you love them people go well that's the reality I'm like yeah it's a reality might be your reality yep it's not my reality and yeah I had a similar thing where in uh and it's it's this there there's a story like this in the book around just living very different realities from a family member
- 39:11[SPEAKER_04]: yet being told all the things that I should be doing in the way I should be doing them.
- 39:14[SPEAKER_04]: And this is very, very simple thing.
- 39:15[SPEAKER_04]: Like, you don't actually live in my life.
- 39:18[SPEAKER_04]: You live in your life.
- 39:18[SPEAKER_04]: Your life is amazing.
- 39:20[SPEAKER_04]: Good for you, right?
- 39:21[SPEAKER_04]: I live some amazing.
- 39:22[SPEAKER_04]: It's different.
- 39:23[SPEAKER_04]: You know, my son is Nardavurgent.
- 39:25[SPEAKER_04]: And so I love all the advice about how to parent my son.
- 39:29[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 39:30[SPEAKER_04]: So people that don't have
- 39:33[SPEAKER_04]: I'm my son, you know, it's just like, no, I'm gonna thank you.
- 39:37[SPEAKER_04]: You're cute, but no.
- 39:38[SPEAKER_04]: So yeah, I mean, I think that there is a reason on a polygetic is in the subtitle of my book because it was going through this journey.
- 39:48[SPEAKER_04]: I just say sorry, not sorry.
- 39:51[SPEAKER_04]: Like, this is about me.
- 39:53[SPEAKER_04]: I'm gonna focus on me for a second.
- 39:56[SPEAKER_04]: in order to be the best version of me for all of the rest of you that I aim to make a positive impact on.
- 40:04[SPEAKER_04]: But if I'm in a shitty headspace, I'm not right to be around.
- 40:07[SPEAKER_04]: I'm, you know, 2017, Kerry.
- 40:10[SPEAKER_04]: She was not fun to be around at all.
- 40:13[SPEAKER_04]: Like I got on my own nerves.
- 40:15[SPEAKER_04]: I was in such a bad place.
- 40:16[SPEAKER_04]: But that's why I was like, this is an unapologetic quest.
- 40:19[SPEAKER_04]: This is about me.
- 40:20[SPEAKER_04]: This is, I'm not going to apologize for how I feel what I'm doing, what I'm saying.
- 40:24[SPEAKER_04]: I don't hurt people.
- 40:25[SPEAKER_04]: I'm not going down my way to hurt people.
- 40:28[SPEAKER_04]: If you're feeling hurt by something that I'm doing for me, that's actually your problem.
- 40:32[SPEAKER_04]: That is not my problem.
- 40:34[SPEAKER_04]: That is you.
- 40:35[SPEAKER_04]: choosing to be offended, or choosing to feel hurt.
- 40:39[SPEAKER_04]: And I mean, when my decisions for my life, if they have an insular impact on you, again, it's probably your choice to be impacted by that.
- 40:50[SPEAKER_01]: Mm-hmm.
- 40:50[SPEAKER_04]: And so, you know, this is this is next level of thinking that a lot of people don't stop and
- 40:56[SPEAKER_04]: They think about it, maybe it's, but they don't stop and really go, right?
- 40:59[SPEAKER_04]: You know what?
- 40:59[SPEAKER_04]: You're right.
- 41:00[SPEAKER_04]: Because we also have to look in the mirror.
- 41:02[SPEAKER_04]: If we're getting upset, we want to go.
- 41:03[SPEAKER_04]: Because in someone, we have to go, actually, I'm choosing to be the victim to be all but hurt than everything.
- 41:10[SPEAKER_04]: When that person, it's classic Melramins.
- 41:14[SPEAKER_04]: Let them.
- 41:14[SPEAKER_04]: Let them go do their thing and just let me do mine.
- 41:18[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's true.
- 41:19[SPEAKER_00]: And all of this, everything that we're talking about with the kids and letting them, like, if you don't slow down and really process, like, it will lead to burnout.
- 41:29[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 41:29[SPEAKER_00]: You will get burned out as a leader, as a parent probably, as a partner, like everything.
- 41:34[SPEAKER_00]: And you talk a lot about how to avoid burnout.
- 41:37[SPEAKER_00]: You did a real recently, and you were talking about how, you're like, it's not, it's not a, what did you say?
- 41:43[SPEAKER_00]: It wasn't an accident of
- 41:48[SPEAKER_04]: Yes, yes, I can't remember your correct verbiage, but I was like, yeah, no, let's talk about it.
- 41:53[SPEAKER_04]: So, so maybe stop here.
- 41:55[SPEAKER_04]: You go, oh, I got Melissa's attention.
- 41:59[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 41:59[SPEAKER_04]: So, what I likely said was stress is never the problem.
- 42:03[SPEAKER_04]: The problem in the stress recovery and that is classic and that's a perfect also time and back to your passion of health and fitness as well.
- 42:10[SPEAKER_04]: So it's great analogy with that.
- 42:12[SPEAKER_04]: If you are picking up a weight,
- 42:15[SPEAKER_04]: And you are doing some, you know, bicep curls.
- 42:18[SPEAKER_04]: And you just get going what you're doing is you're stressing that muscle.
- 42:21[SPEAKER_04]: Right.
- 42:22[SPEAKER_04]: At some point, you got to put the weight down and you need that muscle to recover.
- 42:28[SPEAKER_04]: If you don't recover the muscle, you're going to burn it out and you're going to hurt it.
- 42:34[SPEAKER_04]: You're literally going to physically hurt that muscle.
- 42:37[SPEAKER_04]: Same thing with life.
- 42:38[SPEAKER_04]: Same thing with our mental status with our emotions, physical mental emotion, spiritual all of it.
- 42:46[SPEAKER_04]: We have to take moments of
- 42:48[SPEAKER_04]: recovery.
- 42:49[SPEAKER_04]: That's what we're not doing enough of.
- 42:51[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 42:52[SPEAKER_04]: We just go again.
- 42:53[SPEAKER_04]: Achievements.
- 42:53[SPEAKER_04]: This keeps coming up in our conversation here.
- 42:55[SPEAKER_04]: I love it.
- 42:55[SPEAKER_04]: Just go do it.
- 42:56[SPEAKER_04]: Do it.
- 42:56[SPEAKER_04]: Do it.
- 42:56[SPEAKER_04]: Get done.
- 42:56[SPEAKER_04]: Get it done.
- 42:57[SPEAKER_04]: Checkless checklist.
- 42:58[SPEAKER_04]: Checkless.
- 42:59[SPEAKER_04]: And we're so busy just focusing on all the things we have to get done.
- 43:02[SPEAKER_04]: We're not pausing.
- 43:04[SPEAKER_04]: To breathe, to rest, to recover.
- 43:07[SPEAKER_04]: I talk with people, it work all about this all the time in the companies that we partner with.
- 43:12[SPEAKER_04]: As if, you know, one thing I did change my luck.
- 43:15[SPEAKER_04]: I was getting burned out, doing what I absolutely love.
- 43:19[SPEAKER_04]: That's a shitty place to be in.
- 43:21[SPEAKER_00]: That's a shitty place.
- 43:22[SPEAKER_04]: She plays, love what you do and you're just like, I can't breathe, I have no time.
- 43:27[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, and it was a what it made problem.
- 43:29[SPEAKER_04]: I'm like, it is a beautiful, grubble up.
- 43:31[SPEAKER_04]: Still problem.
- 43:32[SPEAKER_04]: And what I did was I changed all my 60 minute minute meetings to 50 minutes.
- 43:37[SPEAKER_04]: What did I have?
- 43:37[SPEAKER_04]: So now I started seeing white space on my calendar, just visually, I started calming down.
- 43:43[SPEAKER_04]: I was like, coming up, there's like, there's white space on rainbow, just like, was, had thrown up because everyone's color coded, thrown up on my calendar, but then I was starting to see white space.
- 43:52[SPEAKER_04]: And then I started communicating my clients on like, here's what I'm doing this, because I would like 10 minutes to process our conversation, process our team session, process whatever, shake it off.
- 44:04[SPEAKER_04]: be present fully for the next person or the next team.
- 44:08[SPEAKER_04]: Yes, they all got that they're like, I love that I don't and guess what, you get 10 minutes back too.
- 44:12[SPEAKER_04]: So just little things like that of baking in their recovery, so you do not get burned out.
- 44:19[SPEAKER_04]: That is, that's all it takes.
- 44:22[SPEAKER_04]: Because again, we're, a lot of us are achievers out there.
- 44:24[SPEAKER_04]: We're going to be doing a lot things.
- 44:26[SPEAKER_04]: We're working parents said that you've got a lot of dad listening a lot of men listening to your bomb work as well.
- 44:31[SPEAKER_04]: So we're all having a bomb life.
- 44:33[SPEAKER_04]: So all of us, a lot of us from working and doing the parent thing and trying to take care of ourselves all the same time.
- 44:39[SPEAKER_04]: You've got to break, you've got to pause with stress recovery or you will just stay in burnout.
- 44:44[SPEAKER_04]: You're, you're going at your energies.
- 44:45[SPEAKER_04]: That's where the energy lead comes because you're doing too much.
- 44:48[SPEAKER_04]: you're actually getting more energy through the pauses.
- 44:52[SPEAKER_04]: Yes.
- 44:52[SPEAKER_04]: You're just refilling.
- 44:54[SPEAKER_04]: That's all you're doing.
- 44:54[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 44:55[SPEAKER_00]: God.
- 44:55[SPEAKER_00]: I'm so glad that we're like having this conversation that people are hearing it again.
- 45:00[SPEAKER_00]: Sometimes I feel like the parent, you know, like when you tell your kids something like over and over again and they don't hear it.
- 45:05[SPEAKER_00]: But then they have a teacher tell them or coach tell them and they're like, oh man, brilliant.
- 45:09[SPEAKER_00]: That's what they told me and they were like, are you kidding me?
- 45:12[SPEAKER_00]: No, it's not like that they got credit.
- 45:14[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so I feel like I hope, I don't care.
- 45:16[SPEAKER_00]: This episode is that and you are the person that's like reminding them again of like, this is so important.
- 45:21[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm just now getting over being sick.
- 45:24[SPEAKER_00]: I was like terribly sick two weeks ago.
- 45:26[SPEAKER_00]: And I couldn't train.
- 45:29[SPEAKER_00]: It got, it was just, it got a little scary for me because mentally, like, oh, yeah, mentally, it's a big deal.
- 45:35[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 45:35[SPEAKER_00]: I like sat on the floor and tried to reach my toes carry like I literally couldn't reach my feet and I'm like my foreheads to my knees type of girl.
- 45:42[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 45:43[SPEAKER_00]: Oh my god.
- 45:44[SPEAKER_00]: Like I've never been in the city.
- 45:45[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 45:45[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 45:46[SPEAKER_00]: And then I had to realize and remember like Melissa like how long have you been training really hard for one was the last time that you took over a week off and I'm like.
- 45:53[SPEAKER_00]: I can't remember.
- 45:55[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 45:55[SPEAKER_00]: I'll take recovery days and I'll recover and do stuff, but like the good and long one to let your body reset and I'm like, what would you tell your client, you know, you need this time?
- 46:06[SPEAKER_00]: It doesn't work.
- 46:07[SPEAKER_00]: It doesn't work.
- 46:09[SPEAKER_04]: It doesn't.
- 46:10[SPEAKER_04]: It doesn't work.
- 46:10[SPEAKER_04]: It doesn't.
- 46:11[SPEAKER_04]: It doesn't.
- 46:11[SPEAKER_04]: It doesn't.
- 46:12[SPEAKER_04]: It doesn't.
- 46:12[SPEAKER_04]: It doesn't.
- 46:13[SPEAKER_04]: It doesn't.
- 46:14[SPEAKER_04]: It doesn't.
- 46:14[SPEAKER_04]: It doesn't.
- 46:14[SPEAKER_04]: It doesn't.
- 46:15[SPEAKER_04]: It doesn't.
- 46:16[SPEAKER_04]: It doesn't.
- 46:17[SPEAKER_04]: It doesn't.
- 46:18[SPEAKER_04]: It doesn't.
- 46:19[SPEAKER_04]: Let's say, and then in your work and out, you put it down to the Strasher Covery.
- 46:23[SPEAKER_04]: The next time, pick up the 12 pounds, and you will be able to do the 12 pounds.
- 46:28[SPEAKER_04]: Again, put it down, recover.
- 46:31[SPEAKER_04]: So that's another thing that people don't understand.
- 46:32[SPEAKER_04]: Their work recovery, pause, is actually contributing to you being stronger.
- 46:37[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, you are making yourself weaker and you are working harder, not stronger when you don't pause and oh, I'll sleep when I'm dead.
- 46:45[SPEAKER_04]: I'm like, well, good thing you have that attitude because you're probably going to die sooner.
- 46:49[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 46:50[SPEAKER_04]: You know, it's just like, no, go ahead.
- 46:51[SPEAKER_04]: What kind of most with common is that?
- 46:52[SPEAKER_04]: That's an excuse.
- 46:53[SPEAKER_04]: That's a brush off.
- 46:54[SPEAKER_04]: And so it's just owning what you're saying to yourself, owning or are you pausing or are you not?
- 47:00[SPEAKER_04]: And allowing yourself to pause because you
- 47:03[SPEAKER_04]: only get better.
- 47:05[SPEAKER_04]: You will only be stronger.
- 47:07[SPEAKER_04]: You will only be more powerful, more dynamic, all of the things when you allow yourself these moments of just energy refuel and stress recovery.
- 47:16[SPEAKER_00]: Yep.
- 47:17[SPEAKER_00]: Yep.
- 47:17[SPEAKER_00]: I'm so glad that we are talking about this right now.
- 47:20[SPEAKER_00]: People, they just need to hear it.
- 47:22[SPEAKER_00]: And it needs to be taught to our kids because right now they have a lot of coaches that push them and they're like, rest when you're done.
- 47:29[SPEAKER_00]: You know, like, same thing.
- 47:30[SPEAKER_00]: Go complain and keep going and I'm like, you know, and I've seen kids that like have gotten hurt and they're like, you play through it.
- 47:36[SPEAKER_00]: Just tap it up and I'm like, you know, no, don't work that way.
- 47:40[SPEAKER_00]: hold on.
- 47:40[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, you can, again, if you want to work harder, but that's not working smarter.
- 47:44[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 47:45[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, Kerry, I feel like I could talk to you for like another three hours.
- 47:48[SPEAKER_04]: I feel like I could just go grab a cup of coffee.
- 47:51[SPEAKER_04]: We can make them happen any time we want.
- 47:53[SPEAKER_00]: That's true.

- 47:56[SPEAKER_00]: that is so true.
- 47:57[SPEAKER_00]: Carrie, where can people find you?
- 47:59[SPEAKER_00]: Where can they follow you?
- 48:00[SPEAKER_00]: Where can we get your book?
- 48:02[SPEAKER_00]: Well, put everything in the show notes, too, but I love for my guests to always say it to.
- 48:06[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I think you are going to put the vibe checklist to the show notes, too.
