The Acupuncturist the FBI Hunted for 4 Years After the Brink's Murders
On October 20th, 1981, armed men ambushed a Brink's armored truck outside a New York mall, stealing $1.6 million and killing a guard. Within the hour, two police officers who stopped the getaway truck were gunned down at a highway ramp.
The robbery was carried out by members of the Black Liberation Army and the May 19th Communist Organization. Investigators broke the case with a license plate, an alert college student, and a trail of apartments — but the man prosecutors called the ringleader, Mutulu Shakur, stayed hidden for more than four years on the FBI's Ten Most Wanted list.
