- 0:00Right, so let's set the scene. It's BFI Flare.
- 0:05We've got a packed out cinema, we're outside Crystal ready to
- 0:10go in with our first ever live event.
- 0:13Wow, we're going for that angle. I don't.
- 0:16Know. I'm like, I cannot commit to
- 0:21that. No, I don't know.
- 0:22I don't know. Hi, it's Crystal.
- 0:25Hi, it's Baby Lane. We are just letting you know
- 0:28that you're about to listen to our BFI Live Flair Festival.
- 0:33I thought you were going to say you were about to listen to our
- 0:35bullshit audio. That too.
- 0:37Listen, we did an event at BFI and it's our prerogative to
- 0:42release it as an episode. Yeah, we had to do it.
- 0:43It's a live episode, but you know, the BFI apparently can't
- 0:47do audio recording so. Just visuals.
- 0:49They're known for their visuals, not their audio recording.
- 0:52Yeah, the audio isn't, you know what?
- 0:54It's not amazing, but it's very listenable.
- 0:56And I will say the chat's good. It would be a shame for this one
- 0:59to just be hitting in the cutting room floor so.
- 1:01Exactly. So we've got some amazing
- 1:03special guests. You're going to hear it all.
- 1:05I hope you enjoy this episode and we'll be back with a regular
- 1:08episode in two weeks. Get away from her, you bitch.
- 1:19Classic. He was in the Amazon with my mom
- 1:23when she was researching spiders right before she died.
- 1:26No. Hang on.
- 1:32Thought you become a prostitute, you're a.
- 1:33Dog at it I. Used to love doggy chow.
- 1:37I used to love doggy chow too. Hello everybody.
- 1:42Hi. Welcome to Camp Classics.
- 1:47Oh come on, we can do better than that.
- 1:48So welcome to Camp Classics everybody.
- 1:52It's a thoughtful podcast about stupid movies.
- 1:55Hi. Now we're just gonna renegotiate
- 1:58these very low table mics. Here's this Very low, isn't it?
- 2:02It's just where. It's able for M.
- 2:03And it's just, yeah, I'm just gonna here we go crossover.
- 2:06Oh, lean over. So yes, we are here.
- 2:09It's an honour to be here at BFI Fly Air Flare Fest.
- 2:13Fly Festival, Flare Festival. Tell, I've had a few drinks
- 2:15already. Everybody has.
- 2:16No, but seriously, it's an honour to be here at BFI Flare
- 2:19Festival. 40 years. What a prestigious event
- 2:22Crystal. What the hell are we doing here?
- 2:24We have no right. Absolutely no right that's.
- 2:27We have blagged our way to this festival with our shitty little
- 2:31podcast, Everybody that delves into the world of camp cinema.
- 2:35What in the homosexual audacity are we doing?
- 2:38I'm Crystal. And I'm Baby Lane.
- 2:40Now. You might know us through our
- 2:42drag alter egos, but we're not getting paid enough money
- 2:44tonight. I'll be Crystal.
- 2:46So we are here. We are uncovered.
- 2:49And do you know what she she's still inside of me.
- 2:52Baby lame. It's still inside.
- 2:54Me. So if I drop into a song and
- 2:56dance number everybody, I can only apologise.
- 2:59Oh, I or burst into tears. There's a lot of emotions.
- 3:02Is anyone here already a listener of Camp Classics?
- 3:06Oh, OK, that's a slightly awkward situation.
- 3:11What about any haters? Any haters?
- 3:17One hailer at the front? Glad to have you here.
- 3:20You know what the rest of you? There's still time, actually.
- 3:23No, but seriously, everybody. Here at Camp Classics, we delve
- 3:26into true queer camp cinema. We're not talking Mummy Dearest,
- 3:31we're not talking showgirls. We're talking Basic Instinct 2
- 3:35risk addiction territory, everybody.
- 3:38Damn right. The real queer material.
- 3:41Yeah, and if you were looking for, you know, 2 experts delving
- 3:45into queer theory in cinema, no refunds.
- 3:50Not What you've got is 2 unqualified drag Queens who
- 3:54really like to talk about why they like hot girls being bad.
- 3:57Yeah. I mean, it makes sense.
- 3:59So what? How's it all going to work out
- 4:01tonight then, Crystal? Well, so we have brought three
- 4:03very special guests who are bringing a film for your
- 4:07consideration, which isn't considered a queer or camp
- 4:11classic, but you know, if you squint, maybe could be.
- 4:17So I'm going to introduce them really soon and we'll bring them
- 4:19out and then it will be up to you, the audience, to decide
- 4:23which film becomes a camp classic officially.
- 4:28It's very high stakes tonight, everybody.
- 4:30Whoa, Big, big Jeopardy moment for everyone.
- 4:34Yeah, it's, you know, it could go anyway.
- 4:37But I think before we get into that, I think we should let
- 4:40these people know. Baby, yes.
- 4:43What makes a Camp classic? Well, thank you for asking.
- 4:46Now there was someone called Susan.
- 4:48What's the chops? I don't care what her name is.
- 4:51Here at Camp Classics, we have redefined our own version of
- 4:55what makes a Camp classic. We want something that unlocks
- 4:58queer joy in the words of our Lord Savior Megan Fox and
- 5:02Jennifer's Body. I want to get a wedding.
- 5:06I want a wedding. We want a wetty.
- 5:08We want something that is stupid.
- 5:10We want something with an ongoing legacy that informs
- 5:13queer pop culture. And ultimately it should be anti
- 5:16mainstream with underdog flop vibes that's been reclaimed by
- 5:19the F slurs. Everybody, thank you.
- 5:23Thank you. I think that's what Susan Sontag
- 5:25was trying to say, to be honest. Yeah, it took a whole book.
- 5:30OK. So you know, I think we've kind
- 5:33of teed you up of what a camp classic is before we meet our
- 5:37guests. I think maybe instead of hearing
- 5:39it, you should also see it. Good idea, Crystal.
- 5:42Yeah, because sometimes camp is just a feeling.
- 5:44Yes. So we've brought you a clip from
- 5:48a film that we've covered on the podcast already.
- 5:50That is a camp classic. Certified Camp Classic.
- 5:53It's been given our highest rating ever, which is 10 Lizas.
- 5:59We've really pulled through the archives now because, you know,
- 6:02being at such a prestigious festival like BFI Fly Flair, we
- 6:06fought BFI Fly, BFI Flair. We thought it was suitable to
- 6:10get a real cinematic masterpiece.
- 6:12Isn't that right? That's right.
- 6:14Has anyone seen? I know who killed me?
- 6:17Yes, yes, yes. OK, let me set the scene.
- 6:22I think it's fuck. What year are we in?
- 6:24I think we're 2010. It's Lindsay Lohan.
- 6:26She's trying to. Rehab Lindsay Lohan.
- 6:28Yeah. Yeah, she is.
- 6:30She's in rehab while she's filming this movie.
- 6:32So she's going from rehab to the set.
- 6:34Yeah. She's trying to break free of
- 6:37her Disney persona. And she does what everyone must
- 6:42do when they're doing that. And she's playing a stripper.
- 6:44Yeah, so this just to set up the clip for you a little bit.
- 6:50Lindsay has just woken up in hospital.
- 6:53She's missing a hand and she's not sure if she's a bad girl
- 7:00stripper from the wrong side of the tracks or if she's a good
- 7:05girl, high school honor student. Let's see what happens.
- 7:14My name is Aubrey Fleming. I enjoy sunsets.
- 7:17Long walks on the beach, playing the piano.
- 7:20I have never seen the inside of a strip club or a crack house
- 7:23and I have never sold my body to hairy old men with Bo because I
- 7:26am perfect. Say hello to your new
- 7:29state-of-the-art hand. Your nerve impulses get picked
- 7:36up by sensors that control 6 different sets of gears and
- 7:39motors inside the hand, so the movements are incredibly
- 7:43lifelike and precise. So creepy.
- 7:47It's beautiful. Camp classic, everybody.
- 7:51Camp classic. I mean, what is the knock in
- 7:55this film, Crystal? I know in case you're winning,
- 7:57she will go on to fight a serial killer with that robot hand.
- 8:01Correct, and in my favorite scene, she will go to her
- 8:05mother's house that isn't her mother and deliberately fuck a
- 8:08man in the room above just to piss the mother.
- 8:11Off. Yeah, well, the mum is furiously
- 8:12cleaning. I mean, we've all been there.
- 8:14We've all. Been there, Crystal.
- 8:16So that is, I know who killed me.
- 8:18That's the kind of thing we're looking for tonight.
- 8:20Reclaimed joy, Underdog Flop. It's got it all, really.
- 8:25Yeah. And you can listen to that.
- 8:27We've got a full episode about I Know Who Killed Me if you're
- 8:28interested to hear more. Should we meet our guest
- 8:32tonight? Yes.
- 8:35Let's make some noise for our guests.
- 8:36Let's bring them up here right now.
- 8:38It's Juno, Charlie, and Travis. First up, we've got Charlie
- 8:48Craggs, activist, author, Meme Queen, dubbed by British Vogue
- 8:53as the voice of a community. Give it up for Charlie Craig
- 8:56and. She's in her juicy tonight as
- 8:59well. Oh.
- 9:02To my right is Juno Dawson, best selling author and screenwriter
- 9:05known for this book is Gay and for the work on Doctor Who, Give
- 9:09it up for Juno. In the middle we have Travis
- 9:12Alabanza. Sorry, award-winning performance
- 9:16artist, writer, and theatre maker Travis Alabanza.
- 9:22All of these people have their own Wikipedia page, so you know
- 9:25they're legit. So how are we feeling about our
- 9:29camp choices tonight, people? I'm, I'm feeling positive after
- 9:35watching that clip that mine, mine is equally as stupid, yeah.
- 9:41Perfect, Charlie. I'm feeling galvanized, focused
- 9:44and ready to take the crown. Fighting words.
- 9:50This is what we're looking for. And no pressure, do you know?
- 9:53Mine is a reach. I don't know if I I don't know
- 9:56if I entirely understood the assignment, but.
- 10:01She's happy to be here. I'm ready and I'm delighted to
- 10:03have a glass of wine on a Thursday evening.
- 10:06Well, this is the thing with all of these movies.
- 10:07I think all of them are better viewed absolutely drunk,
- 10:10everybody. So if you have a drink, cheers
- 10:13and let's get into it everybody. Right.
- 10:15That is the gay agenda. So what are we starting with
- 10:17then? Let's find out, Charlie.
- 10:20I'm ready. Let's see what movie you've
- 10:22brought. Take it away.
- 10:25Have it. When the world is in trouble,
- 10:31when our future is in danger, we call upon one man, but when he's
- 10:38busy, he calls 5 girls. Columbia Pictures presents the
- 10:47Spice Girls. All right, we're coming.
- 10:50In their film debut, Victoria, Emma, Mel B Jerry and Mel C
- 10:59Spice World. Yeah, but can they act?
- 11:01Blah blah, blah, girl power feminism.
- 11:05Do you know what I mean? See.
- 11:12Yeah, hold tight. There we go.
- 11:15Blah, blah feminism. You know what I mean?
- 11:19Strong opening choice. Choice, Charlie.
- 11:23The film that made me gay and then a drag queen and now
- 11:26trance. I'm not even exactly.
- 11:29How many films can say that? I don't know how any no, I win.
- 11:35Wow, this was so easy. We can all go home.
- 11:37Why did you bring Spice World? Well, like I said, it is
- 11:40literally the film. I would have watched it when I
- 11:42was about. I don't know how.
- 11:44I'm not very good at maths, but I would have been like young,
- 11:46like 456. And I remember saying to my mum
- 11:52not long after watching a film that I wanted to be a girl.
- 11:55It was the scene in the film. For some reason, it hit me so
- 11:59deep where they're in the boot camp.
- 12:00They were like a music boot camp.
- 12:02And Michael Barrymore's the director, and Cam.
- 12:06Yeah, Cam. And then every time I say
- 12:08something that could qualify as the camp classic, you have to
- 12:11say camp. So they're in a music camp.
- 12:14Camp, Yeah. Michael Barrymore was a
- 12:15director. And then they're all coming out
- 12:18one by hold. On Are we giving Michael
- 12:19Barrymore a camp? Yes, I see we are gay.
- 12:23Yeah, he killed someone as Camp Noah Walt anyway.
- 12:28Allegedly God. Is it 1990 God again?
- 12:31Anyway, he they come out one by one and they're like gear and
- 12:35they're like army girl camp kind of.
- 12:37But then the real camp is that then Victoria comes out last and
- 12:40she's wearing an army mini dress.
- 12:42And that was I'm not even this is not a bit for this panel that
- 12:46literally like changed my like chemicals in my brain And I was
- 12:49like, that's exactly how I feel on the inside.
- 12:52And I'm not joking about after that, I would go to bed a
- 12:55Catholic and pray that I'd wake up a girl.
- 12:57And now I do wake up a girl. Yeah.
- 13:01So just just before we go in, how much of an affiliation do we
- 13:04all have with Spice Girls in the audience?
- 13:06Do we have Spice Girl fans in the audience?
- 13:10It's not looking good rig though, is it?
- 13:12OK. I I feel like this is slander
- 13:15because of the Brooklyn Beckham drama at the moment.
- 13:18Yes. No, no.
- 13:18You need to. Get you a chance on this,
- 13:20Charlie. Period.
- 13:22Queen Victoria, she made me trans.
- 13:25I think it's clear. I sit on it and.
- 13:27What about the rest of our panel?
- 13:28How are we feeling about Spice Girls in general?
- 13:30You 2 OK. I think this isn't fair because
- 13:34I think this is already a qualified classic.
- 13:38I think Charlie's work is done. Oh.
- 13:41Whereas Travis and I accusations of cheating all work cut out.
- 13:46But you know what, Gino? Some people might say it's a bit
- 13:47of a basic choice and. I'm just saying, I'm saying.
- 13:53What's actually obvious? I'm a white girl from a council
- 13:56state where in a juicy control tracksuit I am basic.
- 13:58This is my culture, do not erase me.
- 14:04She also you've got a bit of an uphill battle with me because I
- 14:08have a feud, I mean admittedly 1 sided feud with Jerry Halliwell.
- 14:13Jerry Halliwell Horner, I think. Of her episode of Yeah.
- 14:15She fucking sent me home. Oh.
- 14:18She didn't know she. Gotten it?
- 14:20She sent something wrong home. You're a liar.
- 14:22Oh. You're right, actually.
- 14:23She listened. You said something wrong at.
- 14:26Home. Can't remember, it was so long
- 14:27ago. Something wrong?
- 14:29Something wrong? You're right, yeah, but she's.
- 14:31Something white? Yeah, sheepish.
- 14:35How do you feel about the Spice Girls?
- 14:36No, I've just been waiting to see how this plays out in
- 14:39understanding the terms and. Conditions.
- 14:40Oh my God. And I feel really competitive
- 14:43all of a sudden. That's what I just want to come
- 14:45out as competitive and I want to say I think the word camp in the
- 14:49last 10 years has been overused a lot.
- 14:52Yes, which means we now have to go post camp camp.
- 14:56I think this pre the overuse of camp would have won straight
- 15:00away, but now that queer is now cool and uncool again, we now
- 15:06need to work harder on what camp is.
- 15:08I we talk about this on the podcast all the time.
- 15:11Sometimes meta camp is something that is so good that it becomes
- 15:16bad that it becomes good again. What I will say is it's making
- 15:20the criteria for our audience a little bit more complicated, but
- 15:23we believe in all of you now. I believe you've chosen some
- 15:26clips. Yes, and let me let me just set
- 15:29up Spice World a little bit more for you.
- 15:30So Spice World came out in 1997, written by Kim Fuller, Simon
- 15:36Fuller's brother Nepo Kim, a man called Kim.
- 15:40That's camp in itself. That is Kim.
- 15:43It was a modest hit, $100 million worldwide, but it's only
- 15:47got 35% on Rotten Tomatoes. That feel that feels very
- 15:51homophobic. Yeah, yes, underdog.
- 15:53Tax, you know. Underdog flop vibes.
- 15:55Yeah, it was nominated for seven Razzies, and the Spice Girls won
- 16:01the Razzie collectively for Worst Actress.
- 16:05That is an achievement. That is an achievement.
- 16:07Last thing to say about Spice World, Roger Ebert listed it on
- 16:10as one of his most hated films of all time, calling it an
- 16:14entertainment free Dead Zone. Does anyone know who Roger Eager
- 16:19is 'cause I don't. Are you him?
- 16:23Oh, sorry, you looked right. Hand up.
- 16:25I thought it was you. I was like, Oh no.
- 16:27No, no, he he's dead. He's dead.
- 16:29Oh, he's dead. Exactly.
- 16:30Period to to support your case, Charlie, you've chosen some
- 16:34clips tonight. I actually chose different
- 16:36clips. I feel that set up that crystal.
- 16:38Didn't choose to clip, I pick, but we'll watch one of them
- 16:41anyway. Get up with the BFI.
- 16:43OK OK sorry BFI, I picked a really funny 1.
- 16:45Already. She really is competitive, jeez.
- 16:47Yeah. Let's take a look at your first
- 16:49clip or our first clip and we'll discuss further.
- 16:52OK, take it away. Right on the important never
- 16:55letting yourself be upstaged. Oh yeah, true.
- 16:57See. Your mother.
- 17:04Your mother. Hey Mama, See your big fat?
- 17:08Mother and your brother-in-law and your mad cousin.
- 17:11And your next door neighbors dogs now I kill.
- 17:15You. Boys, boys, calm down.
- 17:20Have you not heard of the word compromisation?
- 17:22We agreed on the compromise. Wow, who doesn't love a bit of
- 17:59Gary Glitter, hey? Cut from the film.
- 18:03He was meant to be in the film, but then the whole scandal
- 18:06emerged and he was cut from the film.
- 18:08I didn't poor that's a Gary Glitter song.
- 18:11I didn't. I didn't even know that.
- 18:13I didn't know that. Someone got paid to write that
- 18:16scene about men and thongs and. Kim Fuller.
- 18:19Kim Fuller. Kim Fuller.
- 18:21It's fantastic. It's fantastic.
- 18:23I mean that it really does go to the, like, gay experience of if
- 18:26someone's trying to upstage you, just make them wear something
- 18:29really ugly. Yeah.
- 18:30What do you what do you think of the clip?
- 18:32Why did you look at me when you said that?
- 18:35This is not ironic. This is just my style.
- 18:39Like I said, I didn't pick this clip.
- 18:40I picked the clip of Victoria Mount Victoria growing up to a
- 18:44boy in a coma and saying, and I'm Victoria Malcolm, like
- 18:47shouting at him as if he'd hear. But I mean, we had bulges.
- 18:52We had. I'm assuming they're probably
- 18:55all straight which actually makes it more camp.
- 18:56Like they look like homophobic hot guys.
- 18:59I think actually one of them sold a story to the newspapers
- 19:03that Emma slept with them during it.
- 19:05Oh. Yeah, and then push by.
- 19:08All of them. Posh maybe and Posh by This is
- 19:13the camp it posh by saw the guy who sold that story from the
- 19:16film in Brent Cross. The most random shopping centre.
- 19:20You mean they're not Italian? And started on him in Brent
- 19:23Cross and and and he was with his girlfriend and the
- 19:27girlfriend took victorious. It's a really good story anyway.
- 19:29That is, yeah, kind of Fair. Come.
- 19:32I mean, yeah. Yeah, that's so good.
- 19:34I think they do a good job of selling that.
- 19:36They're dancers. And then if you actually pay
- 19:37attention to them in any other part of the scene, it's Oh my
- 19:41God, those are just, those are just muscular men who, yeah,
- 19:45that's fine. All they can do fine by.
- 19:47How do we feel about Richard E Grant, who is famously a
- 19:52straight man who has pocketed off of playing gay men in
- 19:56cinema? Oh.
- 19:56Really. So I'm so uncultured.
- 19:57I don't know about Gary Glitter. I don't know about.
- 19:59Richard, I don't think you need to be cultured to know about
- 20:01Gary Glitter. I think you're OK with that one.
- 20:03I think it's OK if no one knows about Gary Glitter.
- 20:05We just erase him for our history.
- 20:07But how do we feel about that Junior?
- 20:08You know how sometimes some people are so posh it sounds
- 20:12like they have it sounds like they have like a speaking
- 20:15disorder? Well, I think so.
- 20:18I'm thinking sometimes we might assume the characters he's
- 20:21playing a gay, but in fact they're just.
- 20:23Really posh. Interesting, yes.
- 20:26Well, that's the problem with this whole clip, isn't it?
- 20:28Gay or European? That's what we're experiencing
- 20:30with these Italian dancers. How do we feel about this Spice
- 20:35Girls acting talents? Who do we?
- 20:37Who are we feeling is top of the the the crop here?
- 20:41You just whispered. To me, yeah, yeah, she was in
- 20:43EastEnders. So she was an actor before?
- 20:45Did she play in EastEnders? She mugged someone.
- 20:47She she played a teenage mugger. That's very.
- 20:51Calm. 4 Spice Girls were asked wow the.
- 20:54Teenage mugger. Like giving could walk so Amy
- 20:58Lee Wood could run. Like, I was really thinking
- 21:00that. Yeah.
- 21:00Do you see what I mean? Yeah.
- 21:03Get Emma on like White Lotus right now.
- 21:07Oh, that's a buzzy casting, isn't it?
- 21:10We like that. In a weird way, like a dying
- 21:12buzz, but still a buzz. I actually feel like Jerry
- 21:14Halliwell has probably had the most successful film career out
- 21:17of the Spice Girls because she was in that racing movie.
- 21:20Wasn't she recently? I also had a a cameo insects in
- 21:24the city. I'm Sex in the City.
- 21:25Yeah. Samantha Jones.
- 21:27It's just the best. It's all you can do in this.
- 21:30Weather misted with Evian. That's going to open up a big
- 21:34question tonight, which is, can a Tori be camp?
- 21:38I actually like, and this is where it's like, is camp
- 21:41something we like or is camp its own own separate entity?
- 21:44And I'm like, I don't want a Tori to be able to be camp, but
- 21:49I do think a Tori can be camp and that's going to help my
- 21:52argument later, OK. Hang on a minute, they said.
- 21:56We've just planted a seed there. Yeah.
- 21:58I'm a. Debater this is the problem with
- 22:01having smart people on the pumpkins.
- 22:03Crystal just saying we don't normally as we said it's.
- 22:05Camp as a feeling and sometimes you are laughing with and
- 22:08sometimes you're laughing at and I think like someone like Suella
- 22:11Braverman kind of camp. OK.
- 22:16OK, moving on to our next clip. Charlie, you've got another
- 22:19clip. Did you choose this one or was
- 22:21this? I did.
- 22:22Well, I did choose this one. OK, Do you want to set up what
- 22:25happens in this clip for us? A bit was left out of the clip.
- 22:28That's really funny in that, but it helped me win.
- 22:30Where? Stop.
- 22:32Whining I So it's where at a part of the film, they meet the
- 22:38aliens. I thought this is a really
- 22:41important conversation we should be having as a society.
- 22:43But like, how? What do we say when we meet the
- 22:45aliens? So I think you should all listen
- 22:48to how it's done. But this was where Gary Litter
- 22:51was caught. He was.
- 22:52He was going to be an. Alien.
- 22:56Take it go. What do you want with that?
- 23:34What is it? Yeah.
- 24:15What I what I will say is shoulder pads very, very camp on
- 24:19the aliens. The the bit you don't see is
- 24:21that they had to describe the aliens and they were like, and
- 24:24they were green and then virtual said and wearing really cheap
- 24:27coats. I feel it's rigged.
- 24:31It's rigged. You didn't put that in for a
- 24:33reason. Yeah.
- 24:34I do have one bit of pushback for you, you know, anti camp.
- 24:39Anti camp pushback. Yeah.
- 24:40Can it be camp if we're just watching a capitalist
- 24:44exploitation of young girls? You know, just making some cheap
- 24:48film to just make as much money as you can off a young audience?
- 24:52Yes, Great. There we go.
- 24:55Perfect. Yeah.
- 24:56OK. Thank you for asking that
- 24:57question anyway. I feel like UFOs camp.
- 25:01Have we ever come across yes in our.
- 25:02Existence before literally last night and anyway I don't I don't
- 25:07know I did not answer that and what I was going to say is like
- 25:10Jerry kissing an alien camp like that's camp that what else when
- 25:15even though. The alien touched her tit.
- 25:16It was giving Louis Walsh touching Mel B Yeah.
- 25:19X Factor. Do you remember seeing that
- 25:20trip? Yeah.
- 25:21Yeah. He, like, manhandled her.
- 25:23Yeah. And it was camp that she said no
- 25:26consent is camp like. Is that what we've?
- 25:29Got I think. I'd love to bring up the
- 25:31definition. Is that the?
- 25:32Same. I feel like Charlie's saying
- 25:34everything is camp. And also is camp is Victoria
- 25:38being fat phobic and saying Bosh, you're fat when just find
- 25:41the belly? I think that's really camp as a
- 25:43plus that one I can I'm plus sized.
- 25:45I want to say that what else was camp?
- 25:48I just thought it was really fun.
- 25:49And Jerry's use of the word beast as an insult, which
- 25:52preludes the use of beast on Housewives of Beverly Hills, I
- 25:55think where she said be quiet, you beast, don't you come, Yeah.
- 26:01How dare you? Do you know what Charlie?
- 26:02You give a great argument. But that is the end of Spice
- 26:06World. We are moving on to our next
- 26:08film now. Everybody make some noise for
- 26:09Charlie and her play. Remember everything Charlie
- 26:14said. I know.
- 26:15Or don't. It's probably better you don't.
- 26:16Don't quote me on anything I said.
- 26:19And we're moving now on to Juno. Should we take a look at your?
- 26:23Choice. I'm so excited.
- 26:25It is. Have you heard about this
- 26:27videotape that kills you when you watch it?
- 26:32You start to play it and it's like somebody's nightmare.
- 26:37And as soon as it's over, your phone rings and what they say is
- 26:44you will die in seven days. OK, there we go.
- 26:56So a little bit of a swing in a different direction there.
- 27:00Do you know you're? Going to have to come with me.
- 27:02We're going to go on a journey together and you will see the
- 27:06vision by the end. Well, I'm looking forward to
- 27:08that. But before we get into it,
- 27:09obviously a film called The Ring is going to get camp points from
- 27:14the get go. It sounds like a porno.
- 27:16And do you know what? I did a bit of digging everyone,
- 27:18and lo and behold, there is a 2003 gay porn tribute called The
- 27:23Whole. Nice.
- 27:24So in keeping of that, I wanted to play a little game with
- 27:28everyone called Porn or Norm. Everybody gets involved with
- 27:31this. I want to know which of these
- 27:33horror related titles are real porn movies.
- 27:36OK, so #1A wet dream on Elm Street porn.
- 27:43I'm going to say fake just to be different.
- 27:46Porn. Correct, it is porn 2011.
- 27:51The tagline was if you don't all wake up wet, you won't wake up
- 27:55at all. OK, moving on to 28 Dicks later
- 28:02porn. If it's not, I'm about to put in
- 28:05the BFI funding. Didn't they just do a sequel
- 28:10this year? The Bone Temple.
- 28:15What are? We thinking everyone it's full
- 28:19spot. Next up, Porn of the Dead.
- 28:27Porn of the Dead. Porn of the Dead.
- 28:29That's got to be real. I hope it's.
- 28:31Real. Porn.
- 28:33It's it's a real movie, guys. When they're bad, they're real.
- 28:372006 and the tagline is The dead always rises.
- 28:44I love that for us. OK, moving on.
- 28:46I know who railed me last summer.
- 28:51No, that's my memoir. What?
- 28:54Are we thinking porn? Porn.
- 28:58I'll say fake to be. Different.
- 29:00It's fake. Gino's right on that one.
- 29:01OK, And Halloweener. Halloweener porn.
- 29:09What's the audience thinking? Fake.
- 29:11It is fake, but apparently it is a 1995 children's book Halloween
- 29:18in all good bookstores. OK, a couple more.
- 29:19Now the hills have thighs. The hills have thighs.
- 29:25Damn right they do. That's true.
- 29:28Made in 2010 and a favorite of mine.
- 29:31Pet semen tree cemetery. No it's not real, I just thought
- 29:38that was quite a funny 1. Apologies for that, but I would
- 29:40imagine it. Would have been a real splash.
- 29:45We've only got a couple more. I might just carry on doing this
- 29:47all night. The Texas Vibrator Massacre.
- 29:53Work. Han Han.
- 29:55Correct, it was made in 2008. I couldn't find a tagline, but
- 29:59this is a quote from one of the characters, Vanessa Dawson.
- 30:02Oh God, I can practically smell the chlamydia.
- 30:07We've all been there. OK, two more I spunk on your
- 30:11grave. Yes, Han.
- 30:14Well, it's not a film, it's just a statement.
- 30:18And the final one? XXS Exorcist.
- 30:20Oh. Nice, that's.
- 30:24It is porn 2006 and the tagline is.
- 30:29Your mother sucks cocks in hell. Well, that would be.
- 30:32And she does, Yeah. When the devil is inside, the
- 30:36power of Christ compels you. There we go, everybody.
- 30:41There we go. OK, so there's.
- 30:43Your mother sucks cocks in hell was right there.
- 30:46Right. So back to business, Crystal,
- 30:48tell us about the ring. Oh, yeah, OK.
- 30:50The Ring, The Ring The Ring Ring was in came out in 2002,
- 30:53directed by Gore Verbinski and written by Aaron Krueger.
- 30:58It was a huge hit, $250 million worldwide, 17th highest grossing
- 31:03movie of 2002, and it had two sequels.
- 31:06And it's got a really I haven't seen.
- 31:09Let's see, to be honest, the Ring 2 there's an argument that
- 31:12would mean even more camp because it has Sissy SpaceX.
- 31:15Oh well, yeah, that's that's a good reason.
- 31:17Often the sequel is more camp, and it's got a Rotten Tomatoes
- 31:20critical score of 72%, so it was very well received as well.
- 31:25No pressure though. So throwing this over to you,
- 31:28Juno, talk to us. So I think when you think of
- 31:33queer people, what's the first thing you think they collect?
- 31:37Physical media. They like vinyl.
- 31:42Young young people are collecting cassettes.
- 31:46Charli XCX has Brat on cassette. Samara or Sadako if you do want
- 31:52to the Japanese version. Oh, we're not doing that.
- 31:53We're just doing the American, just the American.
- 31:56Which is very camping itself. Samara Samara, She loves the
- 31:59VHS. Even though this was 2002, we
- 32:02all had DVD players. So she's very trendy.
- 32:07She's very trendy. She makes art house cinema.
- 32:12She she wants nothing more than to be perceived.
- 32:18She's and let's stick with the the art house cinema because she
- 32:21she's made a lovely movie has. She, she has, I mean, and I
- 32:25think we all had that phase as teenagers where we thought that,
- 32:30you know, you could make a pop video and that's what Samara
- 32:33does. I mean, a lot of these children,
- 32:35it scares them to death. I think it's could have been a
- 32:39Madonna video from the Bedtime Stories album.
- 32:43I think a mid 90s Madonna album. I think you're right.
- 32:47I think we should check it out. How can I be what you want it to
- 33:08be? Who uses the landline?
- 33:43Queer people. You can just imagine Naomi Watts
- 33:47turning that off and then turning to like art schools
- 33:50student child and me like. Yeah, it's really good.
- 33:54I liked it. I'm nothing scarier than a woman
- 33:57brushing her hair. But do you know what I mean
- 34:00though? So Samara.
- 34:01So what does she actually want as a writer?
- 34:03What does your character want? She wants everybody to
- 34:06understand that she was murdered by her adoptive parents.
- 34:09Instead of making a film that says or telling doctors my
- 34:14parents are abusing me, she makes that shit as a cry for
- 34:19help. And I find that very calm.
- 34:25I mean, I think that's a very fair argument.
- 34:27Is it because as queer people we do turn to art, don't we, as a
- 34:31way? That.
- 34:32For podcasting. Now I'm how durationally though,
- 34:38it's quite a long watch, isn't it?
- 34:40Do you think that was the right move for her?
- 34:42Because one thing I will say, Gino is, you know, there's a lot
- 34:45of talk of her murdering people, but there's not a lot of deaths
- 34:47in this movie. Could she be a little bit more
- 34:51efficient? Well.
- 34:54The thing is, that doesn't really make sense.
- 34:56If you really think about why the people die, it kind of
- 35:00doesn't make a lot of sense other than the fact that it took
- 35:03the real Samara 7 days to die at the bottom of a well.
- 35:06So I think actually you're slightly minimising her trauma.
- 35:09Fair enough. Yeah, actually.
- 35:11And actually dragging out a death is quite camping itself,
- 35:14isn't it? A seven day death is better.
- 35:16I mean, that little bitch will not die.
- 35:18She's Madeleine McCann with black hair.
- 35:21I mean, Madeleine McCann has never been proven dead, has she?
- 35:27So. So it's just accurate.
- 35:29She's just been there editing videos.
- 35:32OK, now we've got a second clip for you because you know, we, we
- 35:35just spoke about tomorrow a little bit and she's, she's got
- 35:37a little bit of Kunti energy about her, hasn't she?
- 35:41I find her Berry Kunti. Yes, she has been doing her
- 35:45Pilates. She's been doing her reformer.
- 35:50Yeah, she she has a signature walk.
- 35:53Yeah, I think let's take a look at her in action.
- 36:21Slay he. Was.
- 36:24Hot. Yeah, he was hot.
- 36:26And I feel like Charlie XCX was taking something from the mood
- 36:30board there. Who said Brad Summer is over?
- 36:33Now, what is it about you, about her, that appeals to you, Juno?
- 36:36Do you see yourself in her? Yes, I was absolutely terrified
- 36:43when this film first came out and very calm.
- 36:47I did watch the Japanese original first because like
- 36:50Samara, I was a teenage try hard.
- 36:53I think I was 17 when the Japanese version came out.
- 36:58And again, it was one of the first sort of films to really go
- 37:00viral and people were downloading it off a very new
- 37:03technology called the Internet and and I think yeah, there was
- 37:07just something she is the moment.
- 37:09And I think as well in terms of I'm actually being not taking
- 37:15the piss now, there have been so many imitators.
- 37:20This The Ring has spawned an entire kind of this boom in kind
- 37:24of Japanese and Korean horror. There was The Grudge, this
- 37:27Shutter. Who's ring hasn't?
- 37:29Who's ring hasn't? And so I think, I think Samara
- 37:33really, and actually this is not a joke.
- 37:35Samara is iconic. Yeah.
- 37:38And just throwing it to the panel in general, how do we feel
- 37:40about murder and horror in the sphere of camp?
- 37:44Is it camp? It's camp if it's done bad.
- 37:47I think this is too good to be camp.
- 37:50Oh. OK, I just think, sorry, I'm
- 37:54really taking the debates so serious.
- 37:58I put on makeup, so I have to turn up.
- 38:00But I just think that like it's actually, for the time, was a
- 38:04really good horror movie. And I would argue that it's just
- 38:08like a camp classic or something that becomes a camp classic has
- 38:12to at first be seen as ridiculous.
- 38:16And I don't think this was seen at this was I was kind of
- 38:18watching the fine art and like I've seen worse things at CSM.
- 38:22We we all have. But I think, but I think what's
- 38:26been interesting about a bit like The Sixth Sense as well, it
- 38:28was so immediately parodied that I think people have forgotten
- 38:32how scary The Ring was. And I think Scary Movie took the
- 38:36piss within a year. And.
- 38:38So I think it's very hard to see, although was there anybody
- 38:41actually I'm interested, is there anybody who had never seen
- 38:43that before? Was it scary seeing it for the
- 38:47first time? You're all going to die in seven
- 38:50days. I hope you actually.
- 38:52You've now seen the film, so you're going to die in seven
- 38:55days. I haven't seen it since it came
- 38:57out and I cannot believe I found that scary.
- 38:59Yeah, interesting. It looks actually so dead.
- 39:03Now, when when we were talking to you all about camp, when we
- 39:07were talking to all about this movie, you sent over some points
- 39:10and some other points where you thought this film was camp.
- 39:12There is a clip that Juno suggested that we didn't have
- 39:14time to show which involved a horse and jumping over the edge
- 39:19of a large boat and basically getting blended up around the
- 39:22bottom of it and it's guts blowing out.
- 39:25Camp, camp. But I, I think, I think being,
- 39:30being a big Sissy around animals is very quick guarded.
- 39:36The fact that Samara couldn't fuck with horses is giving kind
- 39:40of the horses. Come on, it's a horse.
- 39:43And actually I've had conversations with people, with
- 39:46gay people who have said to me, I don't like horses.
- 39:47They freak me out because they have big eyelashes which is like
- 39:53jealous of their eyelashes. M phobia is alive and kicking.
- 40:00So animal cruelty is camp. In no.
- 40:03You heard it here for. Animal cruelty.
- 40:05We would never be cruel tunnels but I think be pretending to be
- 40:08scared of animals camp. And, and just I'm just going to
- 40:13give you another little minute. Anything else you want to say on
- 40:15this movie before you wrap up? Actually, I really like what
- 40:18Travis said about maybe the ring actually being too legitimately
- 40:22good. But how has it been rendered
- 40:25camp through mockery? That's what I would.
- 40:27That's what I would lead. Good point.
- 40:29Good. Point.
- 40:30Well, luckily. Oh, and it's a very good
- 40:32Halloween costume, Cam. It makes some marrows.
- 40:35Thank you. Yeah, but luckily we go from a
- 40:43relatively highbrow choice to your choice.
- 40:46Now, Travis, don't we? Should we take a look at the
- 40:48film you've chosen tonight? Oh, hit it.
- 41:07He's a cop in a class by himself.
- 41:13He is fearless, unstoppable, unbeatable.
- 41:21I forgot to introduce myself. My name is John Kimball and I
- 41:27love my car. Yo, man, I'm just going to keep
- 41:30an eye on it for you, all right? No, he's going undercover to
- 41:34face his toughest adversary. Listen.
- 41:36Kimball, you got to handle this like any other police situation.
- 41:40They speak their own language. You walk into it showing fear.
- 41:45Shit dead. They play by their own rules.
- 41:50No Fear, No Fear. And they are totally ruthless.
- 41:59No Fear, No Fear. That teacher.
- 42:10Is. Teaching the.
- 42:12Kindergarten cop, American history and practical man.
- 42:17He's a cop in a class by himself.
- 42:26What's the matter? I have a headache.
- 42:28It might be a tumour. It's not a tumour.
- 42:31It's not a tumour at. All I like to just explain why
- 42:37he's doing it. That's the worst trailer over
- 42:40here. Why is he doing it?
- 42:43Why is he? Why is he there?
- 42:45It's. Not a scared, I even felt like
- 42:49the applause after that film was camper.
- 42:54Travis, why did you bring kindergarten card?
- 42:57Look, so who's watched the film? Yeah, OK, great.
- 43:00So like the trailer doesn't do a very good job, but like, it
- 43:05doesn't actually. There's a lot of lesbian arrasia
- 43:07happening in the trailer. The main to the.
- 43:09Film is because I think every woman character in that film is
- 43:13Butch type realness, including in that film Arnold.
- 43:22Here's some things, and obviously I preface this all
- 43:24with a cab, a cab, a cab. But here's some things.
- 43:28Here's some things that are camp about the film.
- 43:31One, at this point, he's in the height of his action like movie
- 43:35career. He is like seen as the toughest
- 43:37person possible and he thought he could break out into comedy
- 43:41#2 delusion. There are so many women in power
- 43:44suits going around saying weird things to him.
- 43:48Free the kids. They all have the energy of kids
- 43:52that have lived like 1000 years. And when they say lines, you're
- 43:56like. What the fuck, children?
- 43:58The children are all so gay. Children are.
- 44:00So gay. Everyone has a helmet fringe.
- 44:04It doesn't matter how old they are, what gender they are,
- 44:06whatever's happening, they've got a helmet fringe.
- 44:09Also, the film starts in a salon.
- 44:12There's something quite camp about.
- 44:13Like at camp? There's.
- 44:16A salon there's like this old school glamour to everything
- 44:19where like everyone is both like a kindergarten, a cop, but also
- 44:23like an 80s powerhouse like fashion vibe that feels already
- 44:26camp Every single villain in oh, this is it.
- 44:29Sorry, main reason closing statement.
- 44:31The main villain you think is this like guy with the slicked
- 44:34back hair who's kind of giving like Italian like any of colour
- 44:37vibes like and that was like a joke on Italian people sometimes
- 44:41anyway. But the actual villain is his
- 44:45grandma or his mother, who's very like ageing, has a huge
- 44:49quiff and a power suit and she holds a gun and she shoots and
- 44:52she's mean, which I think is a staple to being a camp classic.
- 44:56Yeah, we'll come back to her for sure.
- 44:58Well. We've got an applause there for
- 44:59this Bam bam, bam bam bam Charlie.
- 45:03Do you know do you have any association with this movie?
- 45:05No one comes out of a television.
- 45:10No one kisses an alien, Yeah. True.
- 45:16Fuck, you got me this. Movie opens, as you said, in a
- 45:20salon and the villain of the piece is getting a manicure and
- 45:24it's like, not even. It's not.
- 45:25That's just serious. No, but it's like it's not even
- 45:27done in like a no, no, no how emasculating for this man.
- 45:30It's just like he's a tough guy and he's getting a manicure.
- 45:34That's how the movie starts and it's it's honestly incredible.
- 45:37Also, like I feel like just to go back to Arnold Schwarzenegger
- 45:40being a lesbian, like I feel like he becomes more of a
- 45:44lesbian throughout the film. And there's this thing where
- 45:46like, of course, because it was Hollywood, he eventually gets
- 45:49with the blonde woman that's really pretty.
- 45:51And but in the middle of the film you wonder if he's going to
- 45:54get with his cop. Like there's a bit of sexual
- 45:56tension between him and his cop counterpart who is so lesbian
- 45:59coded and ginger. And I think those two things
- 46:03together is camp and and and and and and.
- 46:10I just think you can't look at him without seeing the
- 46:13Terminator. And there's something inherently
- 46:16camp about the Terminator going, you know what, call up my agent.
- 46:19The next movie I want to do is as a primary school teacher.
- 46:24He took a big swings. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 46:26He took a big swings he got. Pregnant.
- 46:27He got pregnant. Oh, he did get.
- 46:29Pregnant. What a versatile.
- 46:31Action, yeah. Conan to Kindergarten Cop like
- 46:35he's really done the full spectrum.
- 46:37Yeah, and maybe if we loved him and celebrated more, he wouldn't
- 46:40be a Republican right now. Because I was like, are we, are
- 46:43we now celebrating? Oh, I was watching it well.
- 46:45Here This is why I planted the seed earlier about Canatori B
- 46:48camp because. Everybody was like leaning in
- 46:53there. They're like.
- 46:54Oh, to drop that seed. Obviously we know where he went,
- 46:58but I thought the task of today was not about what's already a
- 47:01camp classic, but what has been left out.
- 47:03The cannon. Watching it and knowing he was
- 47:05once an action superhero man and is then had a brief stint as a
- 47:10Republican. Like, what was he, governor?
- 47:12Governor. But in some point in time he
- 47:16could have went on making bad children movies that aren't
- 47:19children, movies that look lesbian.
- 47:24Please see Kindergarten Cop 2 starring Dolph Lundgren.
- 47:27Thank you. Is that real?
- 47:29Yes, Kindergarten Cop 2 also have a sequel to have a sequel.
- 47:34I love a junky sequel, but I did not know Dolph was doing that.
- 47:37That is. Also, how can you jank on Jack?
- 47:39You know already. It's already janky.
- 47:42Now you mentioned a power granny killer moment and I think we
- 47:47have a clip of it. Don't.
- 47:48We we're not there yet. 1st I'm sorry.
- 47:52Sorry, Crystal. No, it's fine.
- 47:53But our first clip is about something I think is relatable
- 47:56to the queer experience, and that is not having any fucking
- 47:59idea what to do with children. Everyone's.
- 48:03Now let's everybody say good morning, Mr. Kimball.
- 48:12Good morning. They're all yours.
- 48:17I'll be watching you. I'm very happy to be here.
- 48:21Lesbian. I would like to just get to know
- 48:26you. It's not a tumor.
- 48:43I literally can't now. You have said that Arnie's
- 48:46playing a Butch lesbian. That's that's just all I can see
- 48:48now. It's fabulous.
- 48:49Yeah, even the costume department, like you can just
- 48:52tell there's some real Queens behind the scene, really making
- 48:55those, like, everything cinched. Like every, like a primary
- 48:59school teacher there has like, a cinched waist and like, some
- 49:01padding. And I'm like, yeah, a drag
- 49:03queen. That is not the last time we'll
- 49:05see that woman in a bat wing cinched cowl neck sweater dress.
- 49:09Yeah, Juno was gasping. How?
- 49:11Constantly. Yeah, it was because I used to
- 49:13be a primary school teacher. The idea that you would wear a
- 49:16heel, Yeah. What's wrong with?
- 49:20Her. Every woman in that film is
- 49:22doing like crazy things and in a heel, you know?
- 49:25Yeah, absolutely. Should we up the next one?
- 49:29Yeah. Well, also just before we get to
- 49:30that very quickly, how do we feel about children, a children
- 49:32camp? Oh, it has to be always.
- 49:36Is that how do we feel? Samara's a child, so yeah, camp.
- 49:39OK, Yeah. I No, not inherently.
- 49:45Yep. But when they say silly things
- 49:47in movies, yes, you know, like I think if the kids precocious.
- 49:51Like the child in Babadook camp, Very camp, very camp.
- 49:55Charlie. It's a no from me dog.
- 50:01Well, from one end of the spectrum to the other, to old
- 50:03people now to the granny killer, yes, she's she's got a lot going
- 50:07on now, hasn't she? I feel like having her as the
- 50:10main villain is like inherently camp.
- 50:12Now I will own up. I don't remember what clip you
- 50:14did pick. I'm hoping it has the iconic
- 50:18phrase, Isn't it not? We'll.
- 50:20We'll see. We'll see.
- 50:21We will find out. Let's meet our psycho granny.
- 50:26I hate it, sorry. Where's my grandson?
- 50:45Yes, I don't know. Where's my grandson go to?
- 50:53Hell. You're going you.
- 50:58Son of A. Bitch.
- 51:08Not so tough without your car. Now I do not support gay on gay
- 51:19crime but. When was the last time you saw a
- 51:24movie end with an old woman getting beat up at a base on
- 51:28that? Also the fact that this is like
- 51:30PG rating and I like watch this when I was 7.
- 51:32The tone of this. Movie is so confusing.
- 51:34I've never saw it because I thought it was a kids movie and
- 51:37so I watched it this week. It is not a kids.
- 51:40Movie and my mum was there like thinking it was like because it
- 51:42says PG or like I think it's even a you and some ratings and
- 51:46my mum's like, OK, cool, you're watching a kids movie.
- 51:48Put it on and I'm there. Like watching movies like
- 51:49Grannies Beat each other up. Yeah, don't you see a dead body
- 51:53at 1:00? Point.
- 51:53Yeah, it's. Like an actual cop.
- 51:55And it but it was advertised as a kids movie, which obviously I
- 51:58don't think is good but is camp. Three.
- 52:02That's T on a three. Corpses, yeah, 3 corpses, like a
- 52:06lot of like innuendo, like yeah, there's a lot going on.
- 52:09I think it's a 12 domestic. Domestic violence.
- 52:12Domestic violence. There's lots of yeah, it's like
- 52:14really dark. It's real life kids, OK to get
- 52:17these kids up to scratch. But I think like I could be here
- 52:21and make my closing argument and I've clearly taken this a bit
- 52:23serious, but I would just say the gasp is all I need to say.
- 52:27Like that gasp after the shot and they go.
- 52:30I rest my case. What I would say though is if I
- 52:33was the ginger lesbian with the baseball bat, I would have
- 52:35smashed that granny in the fucking face.
- 52:37You know what I mean? Not the hand you go.
- 52:39Straight to the. Canonically not gay.
- 52:41She has a boyfriend. Yeah.
- 52:43Oh, is that? Oh God.
- 52:45Yeah, the ginger lesbian is from my film.
- 52:47Yeah, that was a Spice Girls joke.
- 52:49Well, yeah, they got together, Mel B and Jerry.
- 52:52Allegedly. Just last, last question about
- 52:55Kindergarten Cup, do you think that the older woman is, is that
- 52:59a wig is a piece? It's an important question
- 53:02because. There's a lot of volume at the
- 53:04back. When we dissect films, we often
- 53:06talk about whether it's a wig, it's a hairpiece.
- 53:08What do we think was going on in that scene?
- 53:10Everyone. It's a lot of.
- 53:11Always a wig. That's what it went.
- 53:13From what I've learned in TV, it's always a wig and there's a
- 53:16reason for it because then and then the hair and makeup, people
- 53:19can style the hair without needing to talk to an actor,
- 53:23which is usually preferable if I'm honest.
- 53:26So that's why it's all it's always a wig.
- 53:28Even if somebody has really boring hair, it's a wig.
- 53:31As a slight side point, it always makes me angry in
- 53:33musicals how they don't lose the weight, their lace pants down.
- 53:36You know how it's all just like they're trunk it on and it's
- 53:38just growing out there. Yeah.
- 53:40Not a fan of that. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 53:42Nothing to do with films, everybody, but just wanted to
- 53:44say that. No important.
- 53:46So that's the end of. Our clips and I think it's time
- 53:51to decide which of those 3 movies is going to be entered
- 53:56into the Camp Classics Hall of Fame.
- 53:59Now this is how it's going to work.
- 54:01We are going to allow all of our panelists 30 seconds to fight
- 54:06their case. Then afterwards, it will be down
- 54:08to you, our esteemed audience, to decide which movie is clearly
- 54:13beloved. So we're going to be starting
- 54:17with you, Charlie. I'm ready.
- 54:20In three. Some determination.
- 54:23No, it needed to. Be I was waiting for.
- 54:25That of course, in 321-GO. I'm going.
- 54:30To take my time. So remember I told you the story
- 54:32about Victoria making me trans? What number are we on now?
- 54:37On 7/8 seconds. Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh,
- 54:43yes, yes, Mama. Oh, the lights are on.
- 54:48Oh, my God, she's got another. What?
- 54:51Fuck it. Actually.
- 54:52Take as long as you want, Charlie, Go on.
- 54:54I was going to say, you've got five more seconds.
- 54:57Now you've got as long as she needs.
- 54:59Go on. As long as she needs.
- 55:01Oh, yes, baby. Yes.
- 55:16I mean anything else. I mean, I don't care.
- 55:18About I think that's. Pop that.
- 55:20OK. That's it all.
- 55:22OK, I don't know what, I don't know what you're going to do,
- 55:27you know, but you've got 30 seconds going now I'm.
- 55:30Going to kill you all in seven days.
- 55:35I think if you really think about it, Samara is a little
- 55:39queer child. She just wants to go viral.
- 55:42It's called the ring, but what does it look like?
- 55:48A fucking ring light. She's the world's first
- 55:51influencer. Without her, where would be?
- 55:55I think basically she invented the concept of going viral.
- 56:00And I think nowadays that is what can be more calm than
- 56:05having a viral moment, you know, without Samara.
- 56:08I'm an influencer guys. That was pointed.
- 56:10But without Samara, we couldn't have had Charlie Craggs.
- 56:13OK, that's TI vote for. That that's the end of that
- 56:15time. Thank you.
- 56:16Thank you too. Now now Travis 321-GO.
- 56:23I do think taking things too seriously is a camp point
- 56:25against me, but if I could win you back I would say that in my
- 56:29debate one film was already too good to be camp and the other
- 56:34film the people in it were already rich and like.
- 56:39And halfway to Tory. Like Arnold but didn't have
- 56:41something to prove. Arnold had a dream to try and
- 56:44see if he could make people laugh and at the same time all
- 56:48those kids looked like people we've all seen in Dalston
- 56:51Superstore. 10 seconds now. Nothing was camper than that.
- 56:56I'll leave you with my closing argument.
- 57:05OK, we're going to pass it to the audience.
- 57:08We're going to vote by applause. So get your answer ready.
- 57:13It's very technical, everyone. Feels very unscientific.
- 57:16Yeah, well, we're gay. And you know what?
- 57:22There can only be 1 winner tonight because otherwise the
- 57:26whole format of the evening would be a bit of throwaway,
- 57:28wasn't it? Because still.
- 57:29So we one vote only make noise for the film you think is
- 57:34clearly beloved. If you think Spice World is a
- 57:39camp classic, make some noise now, everybody.
- 57:44I was going to say, guys, I'm looking at everyone who didn't
- 57:47clap. I will never follow you back on
- 57:50Instagram. None of you.
- 57:52OK, and if you think the ring is a camp classic, clap your hands
- 57:57now. OK, which leaves us with
- 58:04Kindergarten Cop Make some noise.
- 58:12Lesbians. Lesbians.
- 58:14Arnold has it. Give it up for Kindergarten Cop
- 58:17and Travis. Alabanza account awards winning.
- 58:24Officially, I actually did bring a grand prize, but it's I forgot
- 58:29it in the green room. It's it's, it's your own
- 58:32personal bottle of VHS cleaner. But do you know what everybody,
- 58:41Because we have such an amazing panel tonight and I think you
- 58:44can all agree they have been fucking brilliant tonight.
- 58:47They all go away with the bossel of poppers.
- 58:52Poppers you get poppers, you get poppers and if you all look
- 58:56under your. Seat.
- 58:57Right in fact. We, instead of the smoke system
- 59:00we have put in poppers, we're going to huff them all in and
- 59:04we're all just going to rot until we go out on that.
- 59:06Everybody. No, seriously, thank you so much
- 59:09BFI Flair for having us tonight. It's been an amazing time.
- 59:12I hope you've all had a good evening with us at Camp Class 6.
- 59:16Please follow us. There's none of you know who we
- 59:19are. We are camp classics.
- 59:20There's lots of episodes for you to go back and listen to.
- 59:23Yeah. And again, thank you so much for
- 59:24the BFI for having us. Thank you, Darren.
- 59:26Thank you, Aaron, and thank you to our amazing guest.
- 59:29Yeah. Once again, Charlie Craig's Come
- 59:32on. Travis Alabanza and Gina Dawson,
- 59:36everyone. And Crystal and baby everyone.
- 59:41Thank you. Play our theme song.
- 59:47Get it? Get it.
- 59:48Get away from her. You.
- 59:50Bitch Classic. He was in the Amazon with my mom
- 59:56when she was researching spiders right before she died.
- 1:00:00No. Hannah, you.
- 1:00:05Thought you become a prostitute or a dog.
- 1:00:07Edit I used to love doggy chow. I.
- 1:00:11Used to love doggy chow too.
