- Alex: Welcome to another edition of the Unsexy Podcast, where we talk about the unsexy side of everything. Episode 16, check-in 15 for unsexy coaching with Aaron. Kicking it over to Aaron. Aaron: Alrighty, let's start with your fat ass. How much do you weigh? Alex: One sixty six. Aaron: nice. okay. Sweet. Many workouts did you do? Alex: Six. I f part of me wants to say five and a half because I I rushed a workout on Saturday before we had basketball 'cause it doesn't matter why. but I still feel like it was six. So here we are. Aaron: Did you did you hit failure on any of your exercises or any of your sets? Alex: Yeah. Aaron: Yeah. Alex: But so essentially what I started doing though, 'cause I think it was chest, is I started mixing up my shoulder and tricep exercises. So I do a shoulder exercise and then immediately do a tricep, and then after the minute and a half expired, back to the shoulder tricep, and then Aaron: Yeah. Yeah. Alex: so that made it go pretty fast, but here we are. Aaron: some super setting. That is good. How many macros did you hit? Macro days. Alex: Six of seven. Aaron: Hell yeah. Alex: I actually had a question about macros. So Aaron: Yes. Alex: is it about hitting them exactly? Because I've never hit them exactly. Like there's never like there's there's Aaron: No, no. Alex: never been but it's more of how I've been doing it just like, all right, I was at so I think it's one ninety for protein. It was like I was at two hundred for protein, that's still g that's still fine. and then Aaron: Yes. yeah. Yes. Yes. Alex: for really the only one that I'm like t strict on is like fat, like Aaron: That, yep. Yes. Alex: As long as I'm below the fat number and the cali so for example, if I did fifty calories of fat, that means I'm missing nineteen and then Aaron: Mm-hmm. Alex: I make up for that with carbs and protein. Aaron: Yeah. Well, probably mostly with protein if you're going over on your protein. but yeah, no, that's totally fine. Yes. Yeah. I honestly, in all honesty, all I'm really concerned about is you getting enough calories. Alex: Are you tracking? Aaron: Well, you're tracking, yes. But like with your tracking, it's mostly you're staying other it's what you're already doing. Under your fats, plenty of protein, and then your carbs will get in there as well. It's not like you're gonna like six hundred grams of protein, you know, it'd be Pretty tough to do as long as you're keeping it. So as long as you have enough protein and you're under on your fats, I don't really give a shit about the rest of it. And you and you hit your calories. like within whatever. and it's working because you're Alex: Yeah. So yeah, six six of seven. Aaron: you're not, you know, it's not like you've gained 50 pounds in the last what how many weeks been doing this thir fifteen, fifteen weeks. so that's great. steps. wait, no, alcohol consumption. Yes or no. One day. Alex: One day yes, one day. Aaron: One day. I always whenever I said something one day, what do you always want to say after someone says one day? Alex: It but it was on a non-workout day. So I can intentionally Aaron: nice. Alex: do it on non I mean, I need I just need to take it out 100%. but that's my justification justification for this week was it was on a non I'm I'm really paying attention to my deep sleep now. So I'm Aaron: Training day. Uh-huh. Alex: like, as long as I'm getting an hour and a half to two hours of deep sleep, I feel good that I have done all of my protein synthesis for whatever workout I did that day. Aaron: How long do you get two hours of deep sleep? Is that what you said? Alex: What I try to get one and a half well, I have zero control over this. one and a half to two is like Aaron: Yeah. Alex: the goal. Look in I'm in deep sleep. Aaron: I yeah, exactly. Like I guess I can yeah, I guess my d my rem is two hours. I wonder what it was the night before. Yeah, my I'm usually around like an hour and a half. Alex: My rim's usually in like the two hours and then Aaron: Yeah, REMs usually around two hours and about an hour to an hour and a half is what my deep sleep is. I've been sleeping Alex: this is based on what whatever online says. Just like, this is how much you wanna have. I'm like, Okay, I will do that. Aaron: Actually it's usually about an hour of deep sleep. And then I usually have the REM sleeps pretty high. so much rapid eye movement. Yeah, it's that's I've it's funny, Alex: So Aaron: I've never looked at my deep sleep. I always looked at my rem for some reason. but it's usually around an hour. Interesting. Alex: I think like my sleep has been it's it's one of those things you can you you can know all of the things and still make bad choices where it's just like and my sleep was impeccable last week, drinking not at all. Aaron: Yeah. Alex: deep sleep, yeah dude, like so good. Aaron: And then how much it gets like fucked up once you like just start throwing any drinks in there? Alex: Man, just beautiful, beautiful sleep. Look at all this beautiful, beautiful sleep. Anyways. Aaron: You wanna know what's fascinating, dude? Like looking at this. When did I stop? I didn't wear it that night. My REM sle I'm totally gonna be wrong. I take it all back. It's actually for whatever reason I feel like I'm sleeping much better. Ever since I stopped doing Zen, I feel like I've been sleeping fantastic. But but you know what? I'm all about transparency. Maybe well, I wake up a lot more when I was on Zen, that's for fucking sure. Alex: 'cause it's been a week, right? Aaron: Yeah, it's been a little over a week. But I'm just looking at my previous you know what? Maybe I'm No, I think that's when I drank. 'Cause I did have I think it like when I went to a concert. I did wake up a lot more. I woke up a lot more when I used took zins. I don't wake up as much as I used to. I feel like I sleep really well. I don't know. I feel like I sleep f like like I fall asleep easier, I guess. And it might have to do with the fact that I don't have a bunch of nicotine coursing through my body. eight o'clock at night. Alex: I don't know how that works. Yeah. Mine like mine is just because I wake up as early as I do, I am ready to go to sleep by the time it's time to go to sleep. I Aaron: Yeah, yeah. Alex: forget what day it was. Kitty's like, you were like asleep in like five minutes. I'm like, Yep. I'm so tired. I was like, I'm so tired. Not that she was like sh she wasn't like upset about it. It was just I was just like, it's how I roll. Yeah. Aaron: Isn't that the best? Isn't that the best though? God, it's the best when you just lay down and immediately fall asleep. No. I it's more impressed. Yeah. It's like, wow, that's I wish that's one of my buddies' friends. one of my friends' wives was talking about. Like, it's like, I don't know how he does it. He just lays down and immediately falls asleep. Like within like five minutes, is always asleep. I'm like, God, that'd be so great if it just Alex: The best. Aaron: When when it does happen, it's so great. And when you just all of a Alex: Gotten. Aaron: sudden wake up and it's the next day, like and you feel refreshed, like, why can't I do this every time? Alex: Nothing on his mind. Aaron: Yeah, yeah, exactly. Just a clear conscience. All right, Alejandro, where are we at? 15. I like to go, where's the one that makes me laugh every time? can't find it. No, I can't laugh. Damn it. all right. So I can't remember it's like it doesn't matter. Wins at achievements. Alex: man, I'm not like paying attention to these at all. I need to come better prepared for these wins. Pfft just I I hate what it's like a generic, like things are just going just going good. Like Aaron: I think that could be a win. Alex: Yeah, like just things are just going good. Like things are things are nice. Like like it Yeah, true. Yeah. Because Aaron: Yeah. I mean isn't that isn't that what a rin will really is? Is like nothing to complain about. Like that's pretty great. How's your ri your forearm? Alex: So I think it hurts. So I have two things like it was really great for like 10 days. Like really, really great for 10 days. and so I have a theory it's either inflammation caused by drinking or it's from this game I play with my kids. So I'm gonna blame my kids. Aaron: Called Punchy Kitty. Alex: And dad always wins for now. For now. Aaron: Undefeated in this house. Alex: no. But but we'll see how it goes. Like it started to hurt yeah this more yesterday. It started hurting yesterday, and I'll just monitor Aaron: Mm-hmm. Alex: it. Like it it was weird because it was good for probably like ten days. I'm like, hey, I'm I'm healed. I'm healed. So we'll see how goes. No. Things Aaron: Yes. That's such a good it's such a good feeling. That's like what yeah, that's awesome. Alex: are overall good than just going up in Aaron: Whoops. Alex: going up in weights, doing more weight, adding more, just thankfully no major injuries. Aaron: Yeah, yeah. So just Alex: Knocked out of wood. Aaron: the forearm a little we'll put forearm a little cranky. Alex: Yeah. Little bastard. Aaron: Yeah, that is that is good 'cause you're getting said you said you were getting close to where you're maxing out the dumbbells at your gym. Alex: I I mean for a one exercise. Like so I would probably just have to come up with a new exercise to do for it. Aaron: Is that for incline bench press? Alex: No, it's for th if I if if I max out the yeah, like then I will definitely be gone. If I do it for if like right it's for Romanian split squ or Romanian deadlift. Aaron: yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. Yeah, because that yeah, that would cause you said you were at hundreds right now doing those ninety-fives. What Alex: Ninety five, ninety five on those. Aaron: does it go up to a hundred at your gym? Yeah. Alex: A hundred, yeah. What's crazy, I don't think I would have and I don't think prior to doing this, I could have lifted one hundred pound dumbbells. Like just and what I mean by that is like pick them up. And like it's not hard at all now. It's really weird. Aaron: Yes. Yeah, right? Isn't that crazy? Yeah. You you just go over and go pick it like and you and I would have you have you thought about there's like no like thought about it. You just go pick up. You it's Alex: Fear. Right. Aaron: just like I'm just gonna go pick these up. It's weird, right? I it's so funny Alex: Yeah. Aaron: you said that. I literally thought about that the other day when I was going to go pick up because I was doing the Romania didlips too. And I would just go grab it. I like, I just went and picked them up and didn't didn't even hesitate. It's just like sounds so it's just not like a braggy thing. It's more just like it is just a weird whatever like, I could just pick this up. cool. Red on. Alex: Yeah, it's not like I'm so strong, but I'm I'm so strong compared to what I used to be. Aaron: But also I am so strong. yeah, no, it's a it's a good it's a good feeling. Good feeling. Alex: Well, I I'm also getting to this p I'm just one of those guys though, like so like people will see like let's all pick it up a lot of weight. It's like, gosh, Aaron: Wait. Alex: I don't I don't w I don't need any of like the this I don't need any of the attention because now everyone's gonna be looking at my form to see if I'm actually doing things properly. It just just no nobody nobody mentioned anything about the amount of weight anybody picks up. Okay. Aaron: Yeah. until they're done. Yeah, when you're done, Alex: Yeah. Aaron: when they're done with it, you can be like, nice man, that was awesome. but just don't make eye contact, don't, don't let whatever. There was it's funny because I was Alex: I can't get all in my head. Aaron: I was helping Dan. He this is a few this is a few weeks ago. He was doing dumbbell flat bench press and he wanted a spot and he's using like one tens because Dan's a beast. And so he just had one tens. Or may he's gonna be it's actually one twenties if you listen to it. I can't remember what it was. It something really heavy. and he went to go, he's like, Yeah, he's like, I'm just gonna be doing these one, let's just we'll call one twenties. Well, doesn't matter, just in case Dan's listening, he's not one twenties. He's like, All right, I'm just gonna just gonna do these one twenties real quick, so nothing too crazy. And there was a girl, she's like, 120? That's insane. my gosh. And then just like it was it's it's like it. It's what you didn't want to happen happened with this. He's just Alex: Yep. Yeah. Aaron: like, no, it's just like, you know, I'm just gonna do whatever. Then it was just I don't know. That when you when you said please don't talk to me or distract me, I was like, That's literally happened when I was helping Dana. Alex: I just wanna I I wanna do you I it's just weird because I then I get all in my I get in my head about like all right well I want to make sure I'm doing these like extremely properly and I'm like I hope I'm Aaron: Yes. Alex: doing these extr I hope I'm doing this right because there's no point in using this weight like because I don't know what it is but like leg stuff is just I have the skinniest freaking legs, but leg stuff, man Whatever. See ya later. See you later, everybody. Aaron: In strength that you're talking about strength wise. Alex: Yeah, just like I I I was like, I can do anything. Aaron: Dude, have you have you ever seen like here's here's why like muscles and like being big means almost nothing. There's this guy, it's like Bjork Bjorn, not not the mountain. it no, he's Alex: Not the singer. Aaron: he's a mountain climber. And he's like a tiny dude. He's like 150 pounds, but he went and w worked out with this guy named Flex Wheeler. He's actually done it a bunch of times, and he'll the he'll lift the same amount the guy's the the guy that's like 270 pounds. is like struggling with. And he just gets in there like, but he just it's it's it's insane. I I should send you Alex: It's weird. Yeah. Aaron: it's like insane that someone that small, you would look at that guy like, they couldn't, but he's doing the exact same amount of what just like strength doesn't equal muscle size at all. Like there's density. There's so many things that go into it. It's it it's really interesting when you when you see that. Alex: Yeah. It's like the opposite. Like my upper body, I d I mean obviously I'm increasing in weight as time goes on, but my upper body is much more musculary than my Aaron: More developed. Alex: my legs are and it's although I got a great ass, so maybe that's what's going on there. Just phew doing all doing all the all the Lord's leg work with the Buddha. Aaron: caked up. no, I just I I love legs and I hate legs at the same time. Like like leg days, like such a it's a I think everyone I think most people feel this way. They Alex: What? Aaron: either love it or hate it. I have just a love hate relationship. It's the Alex: Well dude, with the heavy app too, when you're just like, I just did three hundred thousand pounds. Aaron: Yeah. Yeah. Alex: I just did three hundred thousand pounds that entire workout. Aaron: I just lifted up a battleship. Alex: Yeah. Aaron: yeah, it's it is it is pretty crazy and it's very, it's very motivating. But where does I even go with that? The problem that I've run into is like my lower back, even with like the seated leg presses, like if I go too heavy and I'm just trying to even if I'm keeping good form, there's something about my lower back that starts to it doesn't hurt, but I can tell it's about to start hurting. There's just something Where I have to like pull it back. And so what I started doing, I think I already talked about this, where I I just lowered the weights and I'm just doing like super slow reps is what I'm doing now. And it hasn't hurt my back yet, so we're all knocking on wood. Hopefully, yeah. I don't want Alex: Everyone's knocking on everyone's knocking on wood right now for Aaron. Praise the back. Aaron: my back to get fucked up because that is no fun. I just think of Steve Kerr every time. Alex: that's what I was gonna say. For maybe this is like for a thing that lost. Tried going for a hike? Not for me. Aaron: Yeah. Alex: I like, 'cause I I'm not trying nobody listens to this podcast. I can say whatever we want. Like, not to besmirch anyone that's come on the podcast. Like, Aaron: Yeah. Alex: yeah, like you know how like how the last one was like, I wanna try everybody's thing. I wanna like sit just so like Aaron: Yeah, yeah. Alex: I'm just going down the line of like what everybody does. I'm like the the the amount of work that goes into the the view is not is not worth the price of admission. and I already know No, I was by myself. Yeah. Aaron: Were you with your were you with your family? Was it raining? Alex: And so that's why I was surprised. No, it was like it was I think I I Aaron: It's like beautiful day. Alex: got there was like sixty, like mid-sixties when I started, probably like mid-70s by the time that I finished. And I was just like, there's too many things that can go wrong in this. Like I'm like following like it's like a pretty well laid out trail, too. I'm just like, am I am I dumb? Like, do I not know how to read these trails? Everything, obviously I'm I'm here. I made it back safely Aaron: Yes. Alex: and everything. And it was honestly a very easy hike as a whole, too. But Yeah, like I think it really just depends on the payoff and the payoff was not there on this one. So I'll just continue to drive to beautiful locations. that are accessi that are accessible by car. Ugh. Yeah. Aaron: Yeah. And I will go to the gym for my working out. yeah, I just I guess I don't really go on hikes very often. The only time that I do any sort of like hiking is actually this time of the year because I have friends that do bird hunting and I'll go out with them. And it's just like and I think that's you know what? It's probably more fun if you go with friends. Because if I Alex: Probably. Aaron: probab I probably couldn't do it by I wouldn't have fun just by myself walking around, but like just bullshitting with your friends out in nature is fun. I've gone plenty of times with them where we act don't shoot anything. We just, you know, we don't we can't find whatever. And it's just fun just out in nature hiking around. But it would not be fun if I did that. I couldn't do that by myself. No, Alex: Is that like all day too? Aaron: it's like we usually get there in the morning. I cut let's just say I don't know, like I'd say eight, maybe seven. and then we're usually back at the house by like noon. Yeah. I'm not I'm I don't do a hard Alex: Okay. Yeah, so like you're getting you're getting into so you're getting into the nature part of it. 'Cause I was looking up gosh, I'm just throwing shade at things like I was like, I wanna go to this hike that somebody went to that looked really, really awesome. Like, it's gonna take me an hour to drive there Aaron: Oof. Alex: and then to do the actual hike, it's gonna be four and a half hours round trip and then an hour to get back. I'm like, pass, pass. Not for me. Aaron: not I'm not that there's there's a hike that my buddy Wes keeps trying to get me to do I mean he's the he doesn't constantly try to do but it's called do you remember you met it's called like flat rock table tabletop tabletop it's like this hike that's over Alex: I believe you. Aaron: in southeast Idaho somewhere but it he's like yeah it's really really hard it's like but the view is awesome like nah you you lost me out really really hard Alex: That Well, 'cause I think I did it like sucks that you like do these things, but I did Half Dome. Like I did Half Dome. That's like Aaron: you did? Alex: a long MFM thing and the view is awesome. I could never recommend anybody do it. Like it's like I was like I'm Aaron: Isn't that terrifying? Alex: like the p no. But Mm, honestly, the only scary part is scaling the side. like that has like these little stairs that you like climb up. That part Aaron: Yeah, yes, yes. Alex: was a little bit scary because you're dependent on other people not dy falling. Aaron: Falling? Yes. Alex: So that was that part was. But it's a really long one. We got there super early. The view is great. It's it's fantastic, but I don't I don't think it's worth the amount of work that guy was like, just bring me in on a helicopter. Just bring bring me in, drop me off. Actually don't even have to drop me off. Just keep me in the helicopter. Aaron: Well d do you wanna know why, Alex? One of the greatest views, my favorite views is is the cat you were dude did you see it? The in the in Kauai we did that cataran tour. I know you got a little C sick. did you Alex: I don't know if I saw it. Yeah. Aaron: see when we went by the Nepali Coast? Do you remember seeing the Nepali Coast in in Kauai? Like so we're on the thing and then there's okay. Alex: I assume so. Yeah. It's like it's like where all the Jurassic Park waterfalls are. Yeah, yeah, yeah. yeah. So I didn't get seasick until we're coming back. Okay. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Aaron: Yes, looking stuff is yeah, yeah. That's like my after good, good, good, good. Go because my point was like that's like one of my favorite like vistas. I don't know what you views. Yeah. and you don't have to do anything. Yeah, you just sit there and Alex: Fuse. Yeah. And you just get to sit there and drink the entire time. Yeah. Aaron: drink. It's awesome. Like I don't have to hike anywhere. and then there's people that are the opposite that there's literally this like multi day hike that takes you to that same location. that I would not want to do. I like being on the catamaran. And seen it from the ocean. Alex: It is weird loving nature, but also not wanting to put that much effort into see into seeing whatever whatever the thing is. Aaron: You wanna you wanna know it's this really beautiful? Like could you did you go up into the canyon? Is that where your hike was? Alex: In Utah? Yeah. Aaron: Yeah, yeah, yeah. You went in the canon. Cause like there's the it like one of my other favorite views is I mean, you've done it before. I you probably have. When we've got an Oktoberfest, did you do the the yeah, the and snowboard? Did you do the ski lift? Alex: Snowbird thing? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. Yeah, we went with you guys. Yeah. Aaron: I love the ski lift. Like, I'm not even talking the enclosed one, like the one where you have like it's just a ski lift, like that's what am I like? You just go up, it's super calming calm and and peaceful as far. The fall colors are all over the place and it's again quiet and you hear nature. I love that. You're just sitting there Alex: Yeah. Aaron: the whole time. Didn't have to hike. Alex: Yeah. Meet the same zame's. Aaron: I don't know. I I love good views, but I like I don't know. There's some there's I I I if someone's like let's go on this really all long ass hike, I guess it just Alex: Better have a good payoff. Aaron: it would have to be I mean, there was a a hike that I did over in Jackson that was pretty cool. but I think you have to be I don't think you could do it alone. I I'm I'm out I don't think you could do it lone hiking. Mm mm. Yeah. You have to experience with somebody. Alex: I think that's part of it too. Yeah. But it was, you know. next up, yoga. I'll report on that and probably not have enjoyed it. Aaron: If anybody's if anyone is still listening at this point, please leave a comment. Alex: What are we we're air dogs just talking about the f their favorite views that they've seen in for the last five minutes? Aaron: man, did we lose everybody twin Alex: I'll tell Aaron: minutes ago? Alex: it's it's kind of fun, like looking at like the data. Like pe this is when people should be getting on. I feel like it's like the last five or like Aaron: Ha ha. Alex: skip the first for this one, I guess skip the first Aaron: Mm. Alex: fifteen minutes, skip the first thirty minutes of like our other ones. Like the meat of everything is in those last ten to fifteen minutes when we finally hit our s hit our groove. yeah. Aaron: yeah, yeah, exactly. I'd start bitching about stuff. Alex: speaking of my locked in group, just kidding. well thanks everyb thanks everybody for for listening. we will catch up with y'all next week. Go be unsexy. Aaron: Don't hike.
