- 0:28What happened is, on that couch, if you don't have a pillow behind your back, you kind of sink.
- 0:33Marco Rubio on becoming a meme because every photo of him in the Oval Office,
- 0:38he's sinking into the couch.
- 0:40Insert theme song here. This is the Daily Starcast. I give you the news and maybe a laugh.
- 0:46I'm Lindsay Vernick, and today is August 4th, 2026.
- 0:50Hey, just a reminder, if you have not signed up for the summer residency,
- 0:54I think there was something wrong with the link.
- 0:57But if you're interested in doing a little stand up, a little comedy,
- 1:01maybe just trying your shot at,
- 1:04doing a podcast for five to seven minutes one day, sign up or maybe tell somebody
- 1:09that you think might be funny to sign up. It's going to be super fun.
- 1:13In real news, movie theaters have officially just entered the airline era.
- 1:19IMC Theater has just announced that starting later this year,
- 1:22the best seats in the house are going to be reserved for members of its paid
- 1:26loyalty program, A-List and Stubbs Premier.
- 1:31That means if you don't pay for their memberships, you might find yourself stuck
- 1:35craning your neck from the front row.
- 1:38The change will start at 600 theaters by the end of this year.
- 1:42AMC wants to reward its most loyal customers, but really they want more people
- 1:47to sign up for their memberships and they think that this will give people incentive to do so.
- 1:52The company insists that there still will be plenty of good seats available for everyone else.
- 1:58But that's exactly what Airlines said before they started charging $100 for
- 2:02the privilege of sitting next to your travel companion.
- 2:06If you're already an A-list member, you're probably paying between $25 and $30
- 2:11a month, and nothing really changes for you, except you'll get first dibs on premium seats.
- 2:17And if not, you may have to choose between paying for a membership or accepting
- 2:22that your movie experience now includes staring directly up Chris Pratt's nostrils.
- 2:28The next rollout they're having is having to tip the workers who scan the tickets in for us.
- 2:34If you thought AI was going to make life easier, 58,000 students would have to disagree with you.
- 2:41Thousands of students across Turkey took a high-stakes university entrance exam
- 2:46online using an AI-powered proctoring system.
- 2:50The software they're using was supposed to monitor students for cheating by
- 2:53tracking things like eye movement, background noise, suspicious behavior, you know the joke.
- 2:59But instead it spent the entire exam crashing, freezing, logging students out,
- 3:05and randomly flagging perfectly innocent people.
- 3:08This disaster was so huge that they just scrapped the entire test and announced
- 3:14that all 58,000 students are going to have to retake it.
- 3:18Like imagine studying for this test for months on end and finally getting through
- 3:22this four-hour exam thinking that you're finally done with it all,
- 3:27only for them to say, actually, let's just run that whole thing back again. Sorry.
- 3:33Like, they did apologize for this, and they said it was all technical issues.
- 3:38And obviously, everyone went online to social media after to complain about
- 3:42what happened with all of the error messages, disconnects, and AI making this
- 3:46whole experience more stressful than the actual exam itself.
- 3:50This is exactly why people don't trust AI with everything yet.
- 3:53Like you can ask it for dinner and that's fine, but letting a computer decide
- 3:58whether you cheated on one of the biggest exam of your life,
- 4:01maybe we should just keep humans for that one.
- 4:05Move over politics. America has found a new thing to fight about. Lawns.
- 4:11Over in Denver, there's this historic drought going on, and it's turning neighborhoods
- 4:16into like full-on suburban cold wars.
- 4:20People are being asked to cut water usage by 20%, and they're only allowed to
- 4:25water their lawns twice a week.
- 4:27But obviously, some people are not about it, and obviously, the others have noticed.
- 4:34More than 4,000 people have reported suspected water restriction violations
- 4:39this summer, because when it comes down to it, everyone will turn on each other.
- 4:44Like, I'm in the middle of watching
- 4:45Paradise right now, and everyone will turn on each other in the end.
- 4:50So now, all of these neighborhoods are divided into two groups.
- 4:54The people with brown lawns who are following the rules, and the people with
- 4:59suspiciously perfect green grass who look like they have a little tiny golf
- 5:02course behind their fence.
- 5:05Some homeowners are actually facing fines for this, and other people are just
- 5:10ripping out their grass completely and replacing it with drought-friendly landscaping or artificial turf.
- 5:16Nothing says America quite like saying, I don't care about the drought,
- 5:20but I do care that Karen's lawn looks better than mine.
- 5:23The neighborhood city watch has now turned into the city sprinkler watch,
- 5:27where people stake out houses they think are running their sprinklers in the
- 5:31middle of the night to take videos and report them.
- 5:34In Lindsay life, my grandmother, my mom, this past weekend, told me that she
- 5:39really thinks I should be going out with a widow. Okay?
- 5:43Because if I go out with a widow, he will have nice issues.
- 5:47Not like all of the other guys who I've dated. No, no, no. Well,
- 5:51obviously, they all have bad issues.
- 5:53But if I go out with a widow, he'll have nice issues because his wife, he just lost his wife.
- 6:00She just died on him. You know, that's no fault of his own.
- 6:04But also, this poor man loses the woman who he thought he was going to spend
- 6:09the rest of his life with, you know, in his maybe early to mid-30s.
- 6:15That's not nice. Those are some pretty bad issues, my mom. Let's talk about trauma right there.
- 6:22Lindsay Lessons, a lesson by Lindsay. if you're ever passing by someone that
- 6:28you really don't want to stop and have a conversation with just like look down
- 6:32at your phone and look super stressed and walk super fast

- 6:41to deal with something and walk away even faster,
