• 1:24
  Not
• 1:24
  really.
• 1:24
  In
• 1:24
  fact
• 1:25
  it
• 1:25
  probably
• 1:25
  sours
• 1:26
  me
• 1:26
  on
• 1:26
  them
• 1:26
  a
• 1:26
  little
• 1:26
  bit.
• 1:27
  I
• 1:27
  was
• 1:27
  kind
• 1:27
  of,
• 1:27
  you
• 1:27
  know,
• 1:27
  go,
• 1:28
  I
• 1:28
  was
• 1:28
  kind
• 1:28
  of
• 1:28
  like
• 1:28
  getting
• 1:29
  more
• 1:29
  on

  the

  of

  the
• 1:30
  smart
• 1:31

• 1:31
  and
• 1:31
  then
• 1:31
  now
• 1:32
  we're
• 1:32
  heading
• 1:32
  into
• 1:32
  grocery
• 1:33
  shop
• 1:33
  too.
• 1:33
  So
• 1:33
  who
• 1:33
  knows
• 1:33
  where
• 1:34
  this
• 1:34
  is
• 1:34
  going
• 1:34
  to
• 1:34
  play
• 1:34
  because
• 1:34
  you
• 1:35
  know
• 1:35
  it's
• 1:35
  going
• 1:35
  to
• 1:35
  be
• 1:35
  a
• 1:35
  topic
• 1:35
  of
• 1:36
  conversation
• 1:36
  there.
• 1:37
  But
• 1:37
  you
• 1:37
  know,
• 1:37
  as
• 1:37
  I
• 1:38
  as
• 1:38
  I
• 1:38
  read
• 1:38
  this
• 1:38
  headline
• 1:39
  and
• 1:39
  I
• 1:39
  still
• 1:39
  wouldn't
• 1:39
  touch
• 1:40
  a
• 1:40
  smart

• 1:42
  and
• 1:42
  it
• 1:42
  goes
• 1:42
  back
• 1:42
  to
• 1:42
  a
• 1:42
  little
• 1:43
  bit
• 1:43
  about
• 1:43
  what
• 1:43
  we
• 1:43
  talked
• 1:43
  about
• 1:43
  in
• 1:44
  the
• 1:44
  last
• 1:44
  headline
• 1:44
  and
• 1:44
  with
• 1:44
  Julian
• 1:45
  as
• 1:45
  well,
• 1:46
  because
• 1:47
  one,
• 1:47
  the
• 1:47
  infrastructure
• 1:48
  is
• 1:48
  expensive
• 1:49
  and
• 1:49
  you
• 1:49
  don't
• 1:50
  really
• 1:50
  know
• 1:50
  what
• 1:50
  substrate
• 1:51
  is
• 1:51
  going
• 1:51
  to
• 1:51
  win
• 1:51
  out
• 1:52
  in
• 1:52
  the
• 1:52
  long
• 1:52
  run.
• 1:52
  For
• 1:52
  example,
• 1:53
  the
• 1:54
  use
• 1:54
  cases
• 1:54
  we've
• 1:54
  always
• 1:54
  heard
• 1:55
  about
• 1:55
  are
• 1:55
  what
• 1:55
  you
• 1:55
  shared,
• 1:55
  right?
• 1:56
  One,
• 1:56
  so
• 1:57
  that
• 1:57
  you
• 1:57
  can
• 1:57
  serve
• 1:57
  up
• 1:57
  retail
• 1:58
  media
• 1:58
  to
• 1:58
  the
• 1:59
  shopper
• 1:59
  while
• 1:59
  he
• 2:00
  or
• 2:00
  she
• 2:00
  shops.
• 2:00
  Right?
• 2:00
  That's
• 2:01
  one
• 2:01
  of
• 2:01
  them.
• 2:01
  And
• 2:01
  then
• 2:02
  secondly,
• 2:02
  the
• 2:02
  other
• 2:02
  use
• 2:02
  case
• 2:03
  we
• 2:03
  hear
• 2:03
  a
• 2:03
  lot
• 2:03
  about
• 2:03
  is
• 2:03
  that
• 2:04
  customers
• 2:04
  like
• 2:04
  to
• 2:04
  see
• 2:04
  their
• 2:04
  budget
• 2:05
  in
• 2:05
  real
• 2:05
  time.
• 2:06
  Okay,
• 2:06
  yeah,
• 2:06
  great.
• 2:07
  But
• 2:08
  do
• 2:08
  you
• 2:08
  need
• 2:08
  the
• 2:08
  full
• 2:08
  cart
• 2:09
  from
• 2:09
  Instacart
• 2:09
  to
• 2:10
  do
• 2:10
  that?
• 2:10
  The
• 2:10
  full
• 2:10
  caper
• 2:11
  cart?
• 2:11
  No,
• 2:11
  you
• 2:11
  can
• 2:12
  do
• 2:12
  those
• 2:12
  things
• 2:12
  with
• 2:12
  something
• 2:13
  like
• 2:13
  this.
• 2:13
  But
• 2:14
  then
• 2:14
  with
• 2:14
  this,
• 2:14
  you
• 2:14
  also
• 2:15
  have
• 2:15
  the
• 2:15
  issue
• 2:15
  of
• 2:15
  acclimating
• 2:16
  the
• 2:16
  customers
• 2:17
  to
• 2:17
  clicking
• 2:17
  these
• 2:17
  things
• 2:18
  on
• 2:18
  the
• 2:18
  cart,
• 2:19
  going
• 2:19
  up,
• 2:19
  scanning
• 2:20
  them,
• 2:20
  getting
• 2:20
  them,
• 2:21
  which
• 2:21
  is
• 2:21
  the
• 2:21
  same
• 2:21
  with
• 2:21
  the
• 2:21
  scan
• 2:22
  and
• 2:22
  go
• 2:22
  units
• 2:22
  you
• 2:22
  see
• 2:23
  in
• 2:23
  Europe,
• 2:23
  too.
• 2:24
  So,
• 2:24
  you
• 2:24
  know,
• 2:24
  maybe
• 2:24
  it'll
• 2:24
  play
• 2:25
  over
• 2:25
  there,
• 2:25
  I
• 2:25
  don't
• 2:25
  know.
• 2:26
  But
• 2:26
  it
• 2:26
  just
• 2:26
  feels
• 2:27
  like
• 2:27
  it's
• 2:27
  an
• 2:27
  awfully
• 2:28
  big
• 2:28
  bet
• 2:28
  and
• 2:29
  big
• 2:29
  spend
• 2:29
  and
• 2:30
  a
• 2:30
  customer
• 2:30
  hurdle
• 2:31
  for
• 2:31
  something
• 2:31
  that
• 2:32
  may
• 2:32
  not
• 2:32
  even
• 2:32
  have
• 2:33
  that
• 2:33
  big
• 2:33
  of
• 2:33
  a
• 2:33
  payoff
• 2:34
  at
• 2:34
  the
• 2:34
  end
• 2:34
  of
• 2:34
  the
• 2:34
  day.
• 2:35
  So,
• 2:35
  to
• 2:35
  me,
• 2:36
  your
• 2:36
  money
• 2:36
  could
• 2:36
  be
• 2:37
  better
• 2:37
  spent
• 2:38
  in
• 2:38
  helping
• 2:38
  your
• 2:39
  staff
• 2:39
  actually
• 2:39
  get
• 2:40
  work
• 2:40
  done
• 2:41
  as
• 2:41
  opposed
• 2:41
  to
• 2:42
  throwing
• 2:42
  what
• 2:42
  will
• 2:43
  ultimately
• 2:43
  become
• 2:43
  another
• 2:44
  task
• 2:45
  on
• 2:45
  their
• 2:45
  plates,
• 2:46
  which
• 2:46
  is
• 2:46
  teaching
• 2:47
  shoppers
• 2:47
  how
• 2:47
  to
• 2:47
  use
• 2:48
  these
• 2:48
  cards.
• 2:48
  I'd
• 2:48
  be
• 2:49
  deploying
• 2:49
  this.
• 2:49
  I'd
• 2:50
  be
• 2:50
  spending
• 2:50
  my
• 2:50
  money
• 2:50
  on
• 2:50
  things
• 2:50
  that
• 2:51
  are
• 2:51
  proven
• 2:51
  that
• 2:51
  help
• 2:52
  my
• 2:52
  store
• 2:52
  employees
• 2:52
  without
• 2:53
  requiring
• 2:54
  any
• 2:54
  customer
• 2:55
  interaction
• 2:55
  at
• 2:55
  this
• 2:55
  point,
• 2:55
  that's
• 2:56
  where
• 2:56
  I'd
• 2:56
  be
• 2:56
  spending
• 2:56
  my
• 2:57
  money.
• 2:57
  Yeah,
• 2:58
  I
• 2:58
  agree.
• 2:59
  And
• 2:59
  shout
• 2:59
  out
• 2:59
  to
• 3:00
  Toby
• 3:00
  Picard,
• 3:00
  who
• 3:01
  actually,
• 3:01
  you
• 3:02
  know,
• 3:02
  was
• 3:02
  the
• 3:02
  one
• 3:02
  that
• 3:03
  uncovered
• 3:03
  that
• 3:03
  this
• 3:03
  was
• 3:04
  all
• 3:04
  happening.
• 3:04
  A
• 3:05
  friend
• 3:05
  of
• 3:05
  the
• 3:05
  show,
• 3:05
  too.
• 3:06
  I.
• 3:07
  It's
• 3:07
  really
• 3:07
  hard
• 3:08
  because
• 3:08
  we
• 3:08
  haven't
• 3:08
  seen
• 3:09
  these
• 3:10
  live
• 3:10
  at
• 3:10
  the
• 3:11
  Waitrose,
• 3:11
  but
• 3:12
  I
• 3:12
  do.
• 3:13
  I
• 3:13
  love
• 3:13
  the
• 3:14
  idea
• 3:14
  of
• 3:14
  the
• 3:14
  efficiency
• 3:15
  of
• 3:16
  these
• 3:16
  that,
• 3:16
  you
• 3:16
  know,
• 3:16
  you
• 3:17
  don't
• 3:17
  have
• 3:17
  to
• 3:17
  invest
• 3:18
  5
• 3:18
  to
• 3:18
  $10,000
• 3:19
  per
• 3:20
  smart
• 3:20
  cart
• 3:20
  like
• 3:21
  you
• 3:21
  do
• 3:21
  with
• 3:21
  a
• 3:21
  caper
• 3:22
  cart.
• 3:23
  However,
• 3:24
  I
• 3:24
  still
• 3:25
  think
• 3:25
  there's
• 3:25
  too
• 3:25
  much
• 3:26
  friction
• 3:26
  for
• 3:26
  the
• 3:26
  customer.
• 3:27
  Chris,
• 3:27
  I
• 3:28
  agree
• 3:28
  with
• 3:28
  you
• 3:28
  there.
• 3:29
  I.
• 3:29
  I
• 3:30
  don't
• 3:30
  understand
• 3:31
  why,
• 3:32
  as
• 3:32
  a
• 3:32
  retailer,
• 3:33
  you
• 3:34
  wouldn't
• 3:34
  start
• 3:34
  to,
• 3:35
  like,
• 3:35
  go
• 3:35
  the
• 3:36
  way
• 3:36
  of
• 3:36
  what,
• 3:37
  like,
• 3:37
  Sam's
• 3:38
  Club
• 3:38
  is
• 3:38
  doing,
• 3:38
  where
• 3:39
  you.
• 3:39
  You
• 3:39
  have
• 3:40
  the
• 3:40
  individual.
• 3:40
  Just
• 3:41
  like
• 3:41
  you
• 3:42
  already
• 3:42
  have
• 3:42
  your
• 3:42
  app
• 3:42
  up
• 3:43
  with
• 3:43
  your
• 3:43
  loyalty
• 3:43
  card
• 3:44
  on
• 3:44
  it.
• 3:44
  Why
• 3:45
  aren't
• 3:45
  you
• 3:45
  testing
• 3:46
  scan
• 3:46
  and
• 3:46
  go
• 3:47
  in
• 3:47
  that
• 3:47
  way?
• 3:47
  Like,
• 3:48
  you
• 3:48
  still
• 3:48
  have
• 3:48
  to
• 3:48
  scan
• 3:49
  each
• 3:49
  barcode
• 3:49
  of
• 3:50
  each
• 3:50
  product.
• 3:50
  It
• 3:50
  just.
• 3:51
  It
• 3:51
  seems
• 3:51
  like
• 3:51
  it'd
• 3:52
  be
• 3:52
  simpler
• 3:53
  without
• 3:53
  having
• 3:53
  to
• 3:54
  get
• 3:54
  the
• 3:54
  cart
• 3:54
  involved.
• 3:55
  Care
• 3:55
  about
• 3:55
  your
• 3:55
  portrait
• 3:56
  that
• 3:56
  way?
• 3:57
  I
• 3:57
  guess.
• 3:58
  Yeah.
• 3:58
  I
• 3:58
  mean,
• 3:58
  I
• 3:58
  don't
• 3:59
  know.
• 3:59
  I
• 3:59
  just.
• 3:59
  I
• 3:59
  think
• 3:59
  there's
• 4:00
  other,
• 4:00
  smarter
• 4:01
  ways
• 4:01
  to
• 4:01
  be
• 4:01
  doing
• 4:01
  this
• 4:02
  and
• 4:02
  other
• 4:03
  places
• 4:03
  that
• 4:03
  I'd
• 4:03
  be
• 4:04
  investing
• 4:04
  in
• 4:05
  my
• 4:05
  store.
• 4:05
  To
• 4:06
  your
• 4:06
  point,
• 4:06
  you
• 4:06
  know,
• 4:07
  especially
• 4:08
  the
• 4:08
  retail
• 4:08
  media
• 4:09
  angle.
• 4:09
  I
• 4:09
  don't
• 4:09
  know
• 4:09
  how
• 4:10
  you
• 4:10
  even
• 4:10
  start
• 4:10
  to
• 4:11
  get
• 4:11
  without
• 4:12
  connecting
• 4:12
  to
• 4:12
  something
• 4:13
  like
• 4:13
  an
• 4:13
  Instacart.
• 4:14
  Because
• 4:14
  I
• 4:14
  think
• 4:14
  that's
• 4:14
  where
• 4:14
  the
• 4:15
  value
• 4:15
  of
• 4:15
  the
• 4:15
  Instacart
• 4:16
  Capercart
• 4:16
  comes
• 4:17
  in
• 4:17
  is
• 4:17
  like,
• 4:17
  you
• 4:18
  are
• 4:18
  connecting
• 4:18
  to
• 4:18
  a
• 4:19
  broader
• 4:19
  store
• 4:20
  ecosystem.
• 4:21
  You're
• 4:21
  not
• 4:21
  just
• 4:21
  connecting
• 4:22
  to.
• 4:22
  It's
• 4:22
  not
• 4:22
  just
• 4:22
  about
• 4:23
  the
• 4:23
  cart.
• 4:23
  And
• 4:24
  in
• 4:24
  this
• 4:24
  case,
• 4:25
  I.
• 4:25
  I
• 4:25
  still
• 4:25
  think
• 4:25
  it's
• 4:26
  too
• 4:26
  difficult
• 4:27
  and
• 4:27
  there's
• 4:27
  going
• 4:27
  to
• 4:28
  be
• 4:28
  too
• 4:28
  many
• 4:28
  moving
• 4:28
  pieces
• 4:29
  here
• 4:29
  for
• 4:29
  Waitrose
• 4:30
  to
• 4:30
  really
• 4:30
  see
• 4:30
  the
• 4:30
  value
• 4:31
  of
• 4:31
  doing
• 4:31
  something
• 4:31
  like
• 4:32
  this
• 4:32
  in
• 4:32
  store.
• 4:32
  So
• 4:33
  I,
• 4:33
  I
• 4:34
  think
• 4:34
  this
• 4:34
  is
• 4:34
  going
• 4:34
  to
• 4:34
  be
• 4:35
  a
• 4:35
  short
• 4:35
  lived
• 4:36
  pilot
• 4:36
  for,
• 4:37
  for
• 4:37
  Waitrose
• 4:38
  but
• 4:39
  a
• 4:40
  good
• 4:40
  idea
• 4:40
  in
• 4:40
  theory.
• 4:41
  But
• 4:42
  yeah,
• 4:42
  I
• 4:43
  don't
• 4:43
  think
• 4:43
  this
• 4:43
  execution
• 4:44
  is
• 4:44
  right.
• 4:44
  You
• 4:44
  know
• 4:44
  the
• 4:44
  other,
• 4:45
  the
• 4:45
  other
• 4:45
  thing
• 4:45
  I
• 4:45
  think
• 4:45
  about
• 4:45
  too
• 4:46
  is
• 4:46
  like
• 4:46
  why,
• 4:46
  why
• 4:46
  is
• 4:47
  anyone
• 4:47
  the
• 4:47
  first
• 4:47
  one
• 4:48
  in
• 4:48
  the
• 4:48
  water
• 4:48
  on
• 4:48
  these
• 4:48
  things?
• 4:49
  You
• 4:49
  know,
• 4:49
  because
• 4:49
  I
• 4:50
  go
• 4:50
  back
• 4:50
  to
• 4:50
  like
• 4:50
  our
• 4:50
  conversation
• 4:51
  with
• 4:51
  Dave
• 4:51
  Stack
• 4:51
  and
• 4:52
  if
• 4:52
  Dave
• 4:52
  Stack
• 4:52
  of
• 4:53
  schnooks,
• 4:53
  for
• 4:53
  those
• 4:53
  that
• 4:53
  maybe
• 4:53
  aren't
• 4:54
  familiar
• 4:54
  with
• 4:54
  him,
• 4:54
  longtime
• 4:55
  friend
• 4:55
  of
• 4:55
  the
• 4:55
  show,
• 4:55
  had
• 4:56
  him
• 4:56
  on
• 4:56
  a
• 4:56
  lot.
• 4:56
  I
• 4:56
  mean
• 4:57
  he
• 4:57
  would
• 4:57
  tell
• 4:57
  you
• 4:57
  hands
• 4:58
  down
• 4:58
  he,
• 4:58
  he
• 4:58
  would,
• 4:59
  he
• 4:59
  would
• 4:59
  kill
• 4:59
  somebody
• 5:00
  if
• 5:00
  they
• 5:00
  took
• 5:00
  the
• 5:00
  robot
• 5:01
  out
• 5:01
  of
• 5:01
  the
• 5:01
  store.
• 5:01
  You
• 5:02
  know
• 5:02
  the
• 5:02
  smart
• 5:02
  cards
• 5:02
  like
• 5:03
  a
• 5:03
  nice
• 5:03
  to
• 5:03
  have
• 5:03
  to
• 5:03
  him.
• 5:04
  It's
• 5:04
  something
• 5:04
  they're
• 5:04
  experimenting
• 5:05
  with
• 5:05
  but
• 5:05
  like
• 5:06
  you
• 5:06
  know,
• 5:06
  and
• 5:07
  like
• 5:07
  that's
• 5:08
  how
• 5:08
  he
• 5:08
  sees
• 5:09
  it.
• 5:09
  Like
• 5:09
  there's
• 5:09
  so
• 5:10
  many
• 5:10
  more
• 5:10
  useful
• 5:10
  solutions
• 5:11
  that
• 5:11
  should
• 5:11
  be
• 5:12
  invested
• 5:12
  in,
• 5:12
  you
• 5:13
  know,
• 5:13
  over
• 5:13
  this
• 5:13
  and
• 5:13
  I
• 5:14
  don't
• 5:14
  understand
• 5:14
  why
• 5:14
  anyone
• 5:15
  would
• 5:15
  be
• 5:15
  first
• 5:15
  on
• 5:15
  this.
• 5:16
  Well,
• 5:16
  and
• 5:16
  they're
• 5:17
  using
• 5:17
  Schnooks
• 5:18
  is
• 5:18
  using
• 5:18
  the
• 5:18
  cape
• 5:19
  cart
• 5:19
  which
• 5:19
  again
• 5:19
  is
• 5:20
  like
• 5:20
  there's
• 5:20
  other
• 5:20
  value
• 5:21
  to
• 5:21
  that.
• 5:21
  It's
• 5:22
  playing
• 5:22
  into
• 5:22
  the
• 5:23
  intelligence,
• 5:23
  the
• 5:24
  store
• 5:24
  intelligence,
• 5:25
  not
• 5:25
  just
• 5:25
  an
• 5:26
  independent
• 5:26
  unit
• 5:27
  that's
• 5:27
  serving
• 5:27
  one
• 5:27
  purpose
• 5:28
  which
• 5:28
  is
• 5:29
  to
• 5:29
  overall
• 5:29
  help
• 5:30
  a
• 5:30
  checkout.
• 5:31
  Yes,
• 5:31
  exactly.
• 5:31
  So
• 5:32
  yeah,
• 5:32
  I,
• 5:33
  I
• 5:33
  don't
• 5:33
  know.
• 5:34
  I,
• 5:34
  I
• 5:35
  hope
• 5:35
  that
• 5:35
  we
• 5:35
  get
• 5:36
  to
• 5:36
  see
• 5:36
  this
• 5:37
  at
• 5:37
  grocery
• 5:37
  shop
• 5:38
  and
• 5:38
  kind
• 5:38
  of
• 5:38
  get
• 5:39
  to
• 5:39
  talk
• 5:39
  to
• 5:39
  the
• 5:39
  company
• 5:40
  just
• 5:40
  to
• 5:40
  get
• 5:40
  their
• 5:41
  perspective
• 5:41
  for
• 5:41
  a
• 5:41
  stand
• 5:42
  on
• 5:42
  how,
• 5:42
  how
• 5:43
  this
• 5:43
  and
• 5:43
  other
• 5:43
  pilots
• 5:44
  are
• 5:44
  going
• 5:44
  too
• 5:45
  because
• 5:45
  that
• 5:46
  all
• 5:46
  that
• 5:46
  also
• 5:46
  makes
• 5:47
  the
• 5:47
  difference
• 5:47
  and
• 5:48
  helps
• 5:48
  us
• 5:48
  think
• 5:48
  of
• 5:48
  things
• 5:48
  that
• 5:49
  maybe
• 5:49
  we're
• 5:49
  not
• 5:49
  concerned
• 5:50
  so.
