- 0:00Today's episode is sponsored by sleeping in your
- 0:02own bed it's literally the best thing i
- 0:06think you know i blame it all on my mom because she
- 0:09told me don't talk with your mouth full the ceo of mcdonald's excuse on why
- 0:14his bite was so tiny in that viral video of him trying a new big mac insert
- 0:19theme song here this is the daily sarcast i give you the news and maybe a laugh
- 0:24i'm lindsey Vernick and it's April 10th, 2026.
- 0:27As I'm saying this, I'm like, why does April 10th sound so familiar?
- 0:31And then I just remembered that that's the day my eggs go bad.
- 0:35So I guess I'm making a pretty big omelet this morning.
- 0:39Well, anyways, in real news, if you were wondering, the emperor penguin is now
- 0:44officially endangered, which is honestly shocking, right?
- 0:48I mean, we're so worried about wars and shitty presidents and the government.
- 0:51We forgot about the penguins.
- 0:54Scientists say it's because climate change is melting the sea ice,
- 0:57and they need that to survive, obviously.
- 1:00These penguins rely on the ice for literally everything. I mean,
- 1:04breeding, resting, not freezing to death, just like little details there.
- 1:08And it's not just a slow decline. Some colonies have dropped over 30% in just a few years.
- 1:14I mean, that's huge. Some would say that's not great, and others would say it's pretty bad.
- 1:20Also, joining in on this panic,
- 1:23Antarctic fur seals are now endangered, and southern elephant seals,
- 1:28if you didn't know that was a thing, got hit with a disease outbreak that wiped
- 1:32out a lot of their population.
- 1:34So the entire Antarctic ecosystem is basically hanging on by a thread,
- 1:39while we're all up here wondering what our president is going to say and threaten today.
- 1:44Scientists are saying this is the clearest large-scale evidence yet that climate
- 1:49change is actively wrecking ecosystems in real time.
- 1:52Love that for us. So if you were looking for a sign that global warming does
- 1:56exist, the penguins are literally disappearing.
- 2:00Natasha Lyonne was reportedly escorted off a Delta Airlines flight yesterday,
- 2:05just hours after attending the Euphoria Season 3 premiere, which is the most
- 2:10I went out on a Thursday and now I'm paying for it story I've ever heard.
- 2:15According to reports, she was sitting in first class on a red eye from LA to
- 2:19New York and she wasn't responding to flight attendants when she was just like
- 2:23asked to do her seat belt and open her eyes.
- 2:25Again, this is all allegedly because then Natasha went on to X and responded
- 2:31in the most Natasha way possible, basically saying, I miss the Drew Barrymore show.
- 2:35Shout out to unpaid TSA agents and also who owns page six, the New York Post again.
- 2:41So she's not denying it, but she's also not confirming it.
- 2:45She's just saying that she didn't get on her flight, and questioning who owns the post.
- 2:50Honestly, that's how I want to handle all my problems moving forward.
- 2:54But the bigger headline here is that TSHNs were working unpaid during a partial
- 2:59government shutdown, which feels like something that we should maybe care about
- 3:02more than whether someone didn't buckle their seatbelt in first class or not.
- 3:06But sure, let's focus on the woman who may or may not have simply disassociated
- 3:10like the rest of us want to every day.
- 3:12Okay so there's new research and it's
- 3:15basically forcing doctors to admit they might not
- 3:18fully know who's actually conscious like when
- 3:21somebody's laying in a hospital bed patients who are diagnosed as being in a
- 3:25vegetative state studies are now showing that about one in four might actually
- 3:31be aware of what's going on they're just unable to move or respond which just
- 3:36confirms that i already thought when doctors say,
- 3:39you can still talk to them. They can hear you.
- 3:41They're there, even though I know and you know that they're not there.
- 3:46It's just to make you feel better and that you're getting everything that you
- 3:50want to say out to them. Cool. Cool, cool, cool.
- 3:54Scientists call it covert consciousness, which sounds like a spy movie,
- 3:58but is actually just your brain working while your body doesn't.
- 4:01And the problem is hospitals don't routinely test for it.
- 4:05The Technology does exist for this, but it's very expensive where I'm mostly
- 4:09used in research, not real life care.
- 4:12So families are being asked to make life or death decisions without really knowing
- 4:16if their loved one is aware of what's going on.
- 4:19And it gets a lot worse.
- 4:22Misdiagnosis rates for vegetative states can be as high as 40%. 40%.
- 4:28So there's a non-zero chance someone is lying there, aware, while being treated
- 4:33like they're not even there.
- 4:34And doctors aren't necessarily wrong, the science just hasn't caught up to reality
- 4:39yet, which leaves a lot of families stuck in this brutal gray area.
- 4:44So do you keep someone alive just in case they're in there, or let them go,
- 4:49not knowing if they can hear you or not?
- 4:51And there's literally no right answer here.
- 4:54Can you believe we're in 2026 and we still don't know this stuff?
- 4:57In Lindsay Life, I'm back in New York City for the weekend, and I'm hitting
- 5:02all of the open mics, and I'm hitting on all of the Jewish boys.
- 5:06Thing of the week this week is ube. It's a food that's popular not because it
- 5:11tastes good and not because it's necessarily that good for you but because it's trendy.
- 5:17It's this aggressive purple substance that looks like it was invented by a highlighter
- 5:21and now it's just in lattes.
- 5:24Ube is actually a Filipino yam that's been around forever but now it's only
- 5:28blowing up in the states because, and this is scientific, it's purple.
- 5:32That's it. That's the whole thing.
- 5:34Food companies are not choosing flavors based on whether they are social media
- 5:39gorgeous, which is actually a real phrase.
- 5:42So it's not about taste, and it's not about culture. It's not even about what's
- 5:47really good for you or not.
- 5:48It's about whether it'll get you viral on TikTok.
- 5:51And sure, yeah, sometimes ube does taste good. It's very subtle,
- 5:55it's sweet, a little vanilla-y, but that's not why it's here.
- 5:59It's here because it looks like you shouldn't be eating it.
- 6:02Also, a lot of these ube products don't even use real ube.
- 6:06They're just flavored to taste like it. So now we're just eating fake versions
- 6:10of a real food because the color is aesthetically pleasing.
- 6:14But also, I mean, are we really going to pretend to be surprised by this one?
- 6:18And quick reminder, it's Filipino, which a shocking number of people don't know.
- 6:23So now we've successfully turned someone's cultural staple
- 6:27into our new vibe incredible work
- 6:30everyone anyway enjoy your purple latte it's not
- 6:33food cooking tip of the day if it's
- 6:36not real you probably shouldn't be making or eating it however i am saying this
