- 0:30severe mental health issues, so get yourself comfortable and
- 0:34enjoy today's episode of The Hypnotist.
- 0:40Hi, it's Adam here. And in today's episode of The
- 0:43Hypnotist, you can be listening to a hypnosis session created
- 0:47for a client that had a feeling of compulsive checking or
- 0:52cleaning when it comes to hygiene and cleanliness in their
- 0:56homes. And it came from a good place.
- 0:58They grew up in a home that was not the most hygienic, not the
- 1:03most clean, quite messy, and they made some kind of
- 1:06resolution that they wouldn't live like that.
- 1:09So it came from a really good place.
- 1:11But unfortunately, if they made the observation that something
- 1:15wasn't quite right, they would feel this nickling anxiety right
- 1:18in their gut and that would only go away when they did the
- 1:21cleaning. So therefore they were being
- 1:23coerced into doing the cleaning rather than just simply choosing
- 1:27to have a clean home. Now the end result is that they
- 1:31had a really clean home. And in addition to that, they
- 1:34would have cleaners come in twice a week to clean an already
- 1:37clean home. But then that would create the
- 1:39same anxiety that would cause the cleaning would cause the
- 1:42checking just to make sure it was done till high enough in
- 1:44standard. But this was already a very high
- 1:46standard. So what it lent it LED it to was
- 1:50this kind of feeling of a lot of anxiety loops, open loops that
- 1:54cause the very thing that create undesirable emotions like
- 1:57frustration, anger, resentment and and more anxiety.
- 2:01So what you're going to hear is a way of breaking that pattern.
- 2:04And most people have had the time or the experience where
- 2:10they were more than happy to do something, but because someone
- 2:13asked them in a particular way, or they expected it, or they
- 2:17pressured them into doing it, then they didn't want to do it.
- 2:20We can call that defiance or a polarity response.
- 2:24Now, if there's this niggling anxiety that for 20 years has
- 2:30coerced you into cleaning, and then you refuse to do that until
- 2:33the feeling goes away, then that's you getting control back.
- 2:38And that's why it was framed almost like a challenge, like a
- 2:40game to activate that defiant polarity response when the
- 2:45anxiety came because they're willing to clean and they're
- 2:48willing to check things, but only from a state of calmness
- 2:51and relaxation rather than rather than agitation and
- 2:55anxiety. So I think if you have this kind
- 2:58of obsessive compulsive desire to clean and anxiety is the.
- 3:03Trigger. For that you will get some
- 3:05benefit from this session. Obviously it was created for a
- 3:08specific individual and therefore some of the
- 3:09suggestions might not perfectly map across to your situation,
- 3:13but it might be helpful if you like the idea of a bespoke
- 3:17customized session to you and your situation.
- 3:20There will be a link in the show notes that you can Click to book
- 3:23a free 30 minute consultation call with me or you can visit my
- 3:26website adamcox.co.uk and book that session there.
- 3:31For now though, find a quiet, comfortable place where you
- 3:33won't be disturbed. Relax and enjoy the session.
- 4:02Take a deep breath in, and as you breathe in, breathe in that
- 4:11slow, long, relaxing breath. And as you exhale, feel a sense
- 4:23of release, releasing tension, releasing worries.
- 4:32That's it. And when you breathe in, breathe
- 4:37in a deeper feeling of acceptance.
- 4:45And as you exhale, feel a release.
- 4:51A release. Of perfectionism.
- 4:55Acknowledging that there is a big difference between high
- 4:58standards and impossible standards.
- 5:04So as you breathe in that feeling of acceptance, you are
- 5:11accepting that you are doing the best you can with the resources
- 5:17you have and that is enough. As you breathe in and breathe
- 5:29out, just notice any tension around your forehead, jaw, just
- 5:36starting to ease, loosen and relax.
- 5:42That's it. Maybe scan your body for any
- 5:48clues of tension. Sometimes it's there in the neck
- 5:52and the shoulders, sometimes the back of the head, sometimes
- 6:02they'd bite me. A muscle tense in the arm or the
- 6:05leg that doesn't need to be. So as you breathe in that
- 6:11wonderful feeling of relaxation, just allow yourself to exhale
- 6:18tension. Feel it melting away, feel it
- 6:23easing. Stress and tension isn't the
- 6:30only thing that exists in the body.
- 6:34Sometimes anxiety also has a location.
- 6:43If the neck and the shoulders are where stress and tension are
- 6:48stored. Sometimes the gut is where
- 6:53anxiety is stored. I.
- 6:56Don't. Want you to feel that now is the
- 7:00perfect time to allow that anxiety, even an echo of it, to
- 7:10just melt away as your body relaxes, your imagination
- 7:20awakens. I want you to think of a time
- 7:27from your childhood, a time when you observed something that you
- 7:35considered messy, unhygienic, unclean.
- 7:41But I want you to go back to that house at your current age,
- 7:46like you're going back in time, seeing you as a child.
- 7:58And I want you to see the environment.
- 8:01I want you to imagine you're going back there almost like
- 8:05you're invisible, able to see and hear and notice everything,
- 8:11but nobody knows you're there. I want you to see how priorities
- 8:20are different, standards are different.
- 8:24I want you to see if there is any cleaning routines.
- 8:28Maybe there were cleaning routines to clean dishes, clean
- 8:32a car perhaps, but maybe less routines to clean surfaces and
- 8:38floors. Just explore that old home,
- 8:45notice what you notice, and allow yourself to get a sense of
- 8:54what that younger version of you would have made of that.
- 9:02Maybe a feeling of frustration, resentment, feeling of disgust
- 9:10or uncleanliness. And I want you to think of a
- 9:21cleaner that currently does work for you.
- 9:28You know the face, the name, the age.
- 9:34And just imagine taking that cleaner that you now have, going
- 9:40back to that old, dirty, messy, unhygienic home and giving them
- 9:47two hours to make the biggest difference they could.
- 9:54Would they focus on 1st? What would they do to make it so
- 10:00obvious that that home had been cleaned in some way?
- 10:08Would they clean toilets or a kitchen sink or a floor or
- 10:16windows? Just be the observer and see
- 10:20what a huge difference your cleaner would make in that
- 10:26environment. And if you come to the
- 10:32conclusion that a dramatic improvement would be made, let
- 10:38me know by nodding your head. And then imagine being an
- 10:47invisible observer with the same cleaner in your home.
- 10:55It's difficult to see the level of impact because the
- 11:00cleanliness is so much higher already.
- 11:08But the work ethic would be the same, the intention would be the
- 11:13same, the competency would be the same.
- 11:18This is an evidence that they're not doing a good job.
- 11:22It's evidence that your home is already very clean.
- 11:31I want you to get a sense then. You've learnt all the lessons
- 11:37from your past and the evidence of that is in the environment
- 11:43that you call home. I want you to get a sense then,
- 11:51like when you were a child, a thought, even a fleeting
- 11:56thought, popped into your head maybe once or twice or more.
- 12:02When I have a home, it will never be like this.
- 12:07And if you think a thought like that may have been planted in
- 12:10your mind all the way back then, let me know about nodding your
- 12:12head. And a part of your intuition or
- 12:20unconscious has been overreacting to that thought
- 12:29that anything other than perfect could feel this feeling of
- 12:35niggling anxiety. And maybe for 20 years that has
- 12:43helped maintain high standards, but at a cost.
- 12:51The cost is that you've been pressured, coerced, and forced
- 12:57into cleanliness. But what if you did it just
- 13:04because you wanted to? Just because you like living in
- 13:08a clean environment? If you feel that that energy
- 13:13would feel different, let me know by nodding your head.
- 13:20I want you to think of a time where because someone tried to
- 13:26force you into an action behaviour, even a compliment, it
- 13:32made you not want to do it. When you can recall that memory,
- 13:35let me know by nodding your head.
- 13:40And I want you to feel that that's because why you do The
- 13:46thing is more important than the thing that you do.
- 13:52And for 20 years, this niggling feeling of anxiety is coerced
- 13:59you into high standards. But the true victory is
- 14:04maintaining high standards because you want to, not because
- 14:13you have to, Not because you're forced to just because you like
- 14:22living in a nice place. I want you to make a commitment
- 14:28to yourself. A commitment that if that
- 14:34niggling feeling of anxiety tries to control you, force you
- 14:45into either cleaning or checking out of defiance, you will refuse
- 14:52to. And you may end up doing the
- 14:55same thing. But you do it on your terms,
- 14:58when you're feeling calm, not when you're feeling anxious or
- 15:04unsettled. I want you to think of this as a
- 15:09game. The more your unconscious tries
- 15:13to force you, the more defiant you will be.
- 15:20And the moment you feel calm, then maybe you do check.
- 15:26And the moment you feel calm, maybe you do clean.
- 15:30But you're doing it on your terms.
- 15:37And when you've got the outcome that you desire, imagine feeling
- 15:43a wonderful sense of satisfaction and pride, and that
- 15:53pride is even more valuable because you did it out of choice
- 16:03rather than coercion. That calmness will be your
- 16:09trigger, and pride and satisfaction will be the reward.
- 16:19I want you to get a sense that when you hire someone to do
- 16:24something to help, it's because their time helps you to achieve
- 16:35your outcomes, not theirs. I want you to imagine, perhaps
- 16:42in the next week or so, see yourself like you're someone
- 16:46else, confidently giving directions or feedback with no
- 16:53insecurity, no hesitation. But see yourself smiling and
- 16:59doing it in a warm, encouraging, supportive way.
- 17:04Perhaps following some kind of acknowledgement of high
- 17:08standards that you've noticed. And if you could imagine that
- 17:14future version of you calmly and confidently giving directions or
- 17:20feedback, let me know by nodding your head.
- 17:25And I want you to go forward now, six months into the future.
- 17:29Six months of refusing to give in to that niggling anxiety,
- 17:36doing things on your terms, getting things that meet a good
- 17:43standard but not an impossibly high standard.
- 17:48And let's visit that home six months from now and see a home
- 17:51that is clean, hygienic, a home that you're proud of.
- 17:59But more importantly, the way you got that clean home is not
- 18:04by succumbing to anxiety and insecurities, mistrust.
- 18:12You did it in an empowered, calm, confident way.
- 18:19You have the clean house and the absence of feeding anxiety by
- 18:26rewarding it. And if this future feels like a
- 18:30desirable future, the absence of anxiety while maintaining a
- 18:36clean, hygienic home that you're proud of, let me know by nodding
- 18:42your head. And now it's time to realise
- 18:49that you've laid a framework. A framework for your unconscious
- 18:54mind to follow. And that very first time, and
- 19:00that niggling anxiety tries to coerce you.
- 19:04You will see it for what it is, Your opportunity to get your
- 19:09first victory in 20 years and never lose it again.
- 19:19So hold on to that thought as we start to return to the here and
- 19:23now. Take a deep breath in through
- 19:25your nose and out through your nose.
- 19:30Just wiggle your fingers and wiggle your toes.
- 19:32Connect fully into the here and now as I now count from 1:00 to
- 19:3610:00 to awaken you. Starting to count. 123 Waking up
- 19:44456 more alert 7-8. Open your eyes.
- 19:49Open your eyes, 910. Wide awake, wide awake, wide
- 19:55awake.
