- 0:00Speaker 1: Just before we get started, we'd like to acknowledge and
- 0:03Speaker 1: pay respect to Australia's Aboriginal and torrest Rate islander people's.
- 0:07Speaker 1: They're the traditional custodians of the lands, the waterways and
- 0:10Speaker 1: the skies all across Australia. We thank you for sharing
- 0:13Speaker 1: and for caring for the land on which we are
- 0:16Speaker 1: able to learn. We pay respects to elders past and present,
- 0:19Speaker 1: and we share our friendship and our kindness.
- 0:22Speaker 2: She's on the Money, She's on the Money. Hello, and
- 0:46Speaker 2: welcome to She's on the Money, the podcast for millennials
- 0:49Speaker 2: who want financial freedom. Today is Friday, which means it's
- 0:53Speaker 2: time to sit back with the girls with a bev
- 0:55Speaker 2: in hands, to unpack our favorite moments of the week,
- 0:57Speaker 2: and of course, to celebrate you She's on the Money community.
- 1:02Speaker 2: As always, we'll be sharing our favorite money wins, we'll
- 1:05Speaker 2: discuss what's making news in the She's on the Money world,
- 1:08Speaker 2: and we'll also be helping to answer a juicy money question,
- 1:12Speaker 2: which this week is all about savings burnout. Before we
- 1:17Speaker 2: jump into a recap of the week that was, you
- 1:19Speaker 2: may notice this is not Victoria Divine speaking.
- 1:22Speaker 3: This is Georgia King's speaking. And Jessica. Ricky's taking ARCHI.
- 1:26Speaker 3: We're back.
- 1:27Speaker 2: We are not doing a gnj Q and.
- 1:29Speaker 3: A No we did that last week. Yeah, I've been there,
- 1:31Speaker 3: done that.
- 1:31Speaker 2: But unfortunately Victoria is still sick. The woman can't speak.
- 1:35Speaker 3: It's not great. That's why there's so.
- 1:37Speaker 2: Much George just content right now.
- 1:39Speaker 3: But we're not mad, it really is. We've just taken
- 1:41Speaker 3: over the show. See getting a bit more of us
- 1:42Speaker 3: this week. Hopefully you don't mind too much. But should
- 1:45Speaker 3: we start with the week that was on Monday? Of course,
- 1:48Speaker 3: let's do it. This week's diarist was a single mum
- 1:51Speaker 3: and she's living on welfare and it was a really
- 1:53Speaker 3: good chat. It was one of the diaries that we
- 1:56Speaker 3: put the call out for if you don't follow us
- 1:58Speaker 3: on Instagram, every once in a while we put out
- 1:59Speaker 3: a list of people that we'd really like to talk
- 2:01Speaker 3: to in the interest of keeping things diverse and interesting
- 2:04Speaker 3: and you know, people from all different walks of life.
- 2:07Speaker 3: And so this week's diris was a mum living on
- 2:10Speaker 3: welfare and just really side hustling her life away. She
- 2:14Speaker 3: had so many side hustles going on and she was
- 2:17Speaker 3: just really saying that every little bit counted she was
- 2:20Speaker 3: trying to make it work. She has a beautiful little
- 2:21Speaker 3: girl and that's who she's doing it all for. She
- 2:24Speaker 3: had left a abusive relationship and was going through a
- 2:28Speaker 3: really extensive court process. So if you've ever been through
- 2:32Speaker 3: something like that, those things can take a really long
- 2:34Speaker 3: time to play out, which is really hard when you're
- 2:38Speaker 3: just trying to move on with your life and look
- 2:39Speaker 3: after your family and do the best that you can.
- 2:41Speaker 3: And I think it was a really cool perspective to
- 2:44Speaker 3: see that even someone who has been through something incredibly challenging,
- 2:49Speaker 3: emotionally traumatic, and with so much going on, being a
- 2:53Speaker 3: young mum, she was just like, Nope, I've got to
- 2:56Speaker 3: make it work. And you know, if I have to
- 2:57Speaker 3: take out the binins once a week for a business,
- 3:00Speaker 3: that's what I'm going to do. That was cool.
- 3:01Speaker 2: I caught that episode on the way in today, Jess,
- 3:04Speaker 2: and that stuck out to me as well as being
- 3:05Speaker 2: a really quirky kind of side hustle. I have you
- 3:07Speaker 2: never heard of that before? But well, did it pay
- 3:09Speaker 2: like two grand a year or something?
- 3:11Speaker 3: Yeah, And like that's it's such a good example of
- 3:14Speaker 3: from little things big things, we say, like that little
- 3:16Speaker 3: bit of money that little job, she says, she takes
- 3:18Speaker 3: her daughter with her and we you know, up and
- 3:20Speaker 3: down the driveway taking out the bins. But over the
- 3:22Speaker 3: course of a year, it really adds up, particularly when
- 3:24Speaker 3: you're in a position where you know you don't have
- 3:27Speaker 3: a lot coming in when you're on welfare. We've spoken
- 3:29Speaker 3: about before. It's not a huge amount, particularly with the
- 3:32Speaker 3: cost of living increasing, and so she's had to find
- 3:35Speaker 3: a way to make that work for her.
- 3:36Speaker 2: Yeah, brilliant. Shall we talk about Wednesday's episode?
- 3:38Speaker 3: Yeah, tell me all about it. Look, you were on
- 3:40Speaker 3: it mag you and I.
- 3:42Speaker 2: We spoke all about income guilt and why we feel it.
- 3:45Speaker 2: We have both experienced it, so it was a really
- 3:49Speaker 2: interesting chat. We spoke about imposter syndrome, one of our favorites,
- 3:53Speaker 2: and we also spoke about ways of combating that feeling
- 3:56Speaker 2: of guilt, be that from over earning or feeling like
- 3:59Speaker 2: you overearn or perhaps under earning. So, yeah, it was
- 4:02Speaker 2: a really interesting chat.
- 4:03Speaker 3: Yeah, good one because it comes from both directions. Really
- 4:05Speaker 3: does ext the over and the under earning. We went
- 4:07Speaker 3: on a bit of a rant about emerging industries as
- 4:09Speaker 3: well to both of us working in that space, and
- 4:12Speaker 3: you know, people sometimes not giving it the respect that
- 4:14Speaker 3: it should have for so, you know, got a few
- 4:16Speaker 3: tickets on myself. But I think it was a great effict.
- 4:18Speaker 3: Yeah it was. It was an what else is great? Yeah?
- 4:22Speaker 2: I try.
- 4:23Speaker 3: I'm trying so hard to be as good as do
- 4:25Speaker 3: it the segway.
- 4:26Speaker 2: I'm terrible at them.
- 4:26Speaker 3: Should we get into the budget direct money wins of
- 4:28Speaker 3: the wheat joy Let's do a girl my favorite time
- 4:30Speaker 3: of the week.
- 4:31Speaker 2: The first win here comes from Lizzie. After last week's
- 4:34Speaker 2: loss of being a good Samaritan and telling the pet
- 4:37Speaker 2: shop that they delivered the wrong size of dog food
- 4:39Speaker 2: fifteen kilos instead of six kilos and taking them back.
- 4:43Speaker 2: This week, Willies accidentally gave us a free four pack
- 4:47Speaker 2: of cup of noodles.
- 4:49Speaker 3: I'm taking that as a week and as.
- 4:52Speaker 2: You should, Lizzie. I bloody love it. She's written hashtag
- 4:55Speaker 2: Karma comes back in noodles. Lizzie gets it. I love you, Lizzie.
- 4:58Speaker 2: Next up is jes A. A few months ago, it
- 5:00Speaker 2: came to light that I would be eligible for back
- 5:02Speaker 2: pay as my role at work had changed a lot
- 5:04Speaker 2: during COVID. To receive the back pay, I did have
- 5:07Speaker 2: to go through almost a year's worth of pace lips
- 5:09Speaker 2: and figure out not only the time I performed in
- 5:12Speaker 2: a different role, but also the different penalty rates and
- 5:15Speaker 2: overtime I performed. A headache.
- 5:16Speaker 3: That's a lot to go through. Now.
- 5:18Speaker 2: I know some of you guys really love your spreadsheets,
- 5:21Speaker 2: but it does not come naturally for me, so I
- 5:23Speaker 2: kept on putting off figuring it all out.
- 5:25Speaker 3: I hear you, Jess.
- 5:27Speaker 2: Anyway, I found myself in quarantine with COVID a few
- 5:29Speaker 2: months ago, and my wonderful partner helped me add it
- 5:32Speaker 2: all up and figure it all out. I submitted it
- 5:34Speaker 2: totally forgot about it until this week. It came in
- 5:37Speaker 2: and instead of getting my normal paycheck between three thousand
- 5:41Speaker 2: and four thousand dollars per fortnight, I got paid close
- 5:45Speaker 2: to twenty thousand dollars. How much four ten thousand dollars
- 5:49Speaker 2: post tax for the fortnight not a bad date at
- 5:52Speaker 2: the office. I had no idea it would be that much,
- 5:54Speaker 2: safe to say, I was stoked and really grateful that
- 5:57Speaker 2: my partner encouraged me to figure it all out and
- 5:59Speaker 2: submit it. I put all the savings into my house deposit,
- 6:02Speaker 2: and I give you.
- 6:02Speaker 3: Break that down over the amount of hours that you
- 6:04Speaker 3: spent doing all that admin, your hourly rate would be
- 6:07Speaker 3: pretty schmid. That's true. That is true.
- 6:09Speaker 2: But also how clever is she to be putting that
- 6:12Speaker 2: savings towards her house deposit? How many of us would
- 6:14Speaker 2: just be like, well, I'll better spend a couple of
- 6:16Speaker 2: ga on some clothes.
- 6:19Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 6:19Speaker 2: I con that's our back Yeah, exactly right, So well
- 6:22Speaker 2: done to you, Jess, yep, good job, alrighty Jess. The
- 6:26Speaker 2: next one comes from Zara. It's a money loss, but
- 6:28Speaker 2: maybe it's a future money win. I bought a second
- 6:30Speaker 2: hand Kowasaki motorbike for a fantastic price. While that has
- 6:34Speaker 2: set me back a little bit financially, within a year
- 6:36Speaker 2: and a half of writing it to work and elsewhere,
- 6:38Speaker 2: I would have saved that amount in petrol and reduced
- 6:41Speaker 2: my carbon emissions. Feeling pretty estatic, she also got a
- 6:44Speaker 2: free six hundred dollars jacket from a friend fantastically so
- 6:48Speaker 2: she doesn't need to buy that.
- 6:49Speaker 3: It's motorbike.
- 6:50Speaker 2: Double win, motorbike girl, we love it. The next win
- 6:52Speaker 2: that comes from Bree money win. My boyfriend and I
- 6:55Speaker 2: went out to celebrate our one year anniversary. Congratulations Brie.
- 6:59Speaker 2: The food took a little longer than usual, so the
- 7:01Speaker 2: restaurant paid for our drinks and we were a good
- 7:03Speaker 2: few cocktails in, so it's a good result. Well done, Brie.
- 7:06Speaker 2: The next week, it comes from Sarah. I've been looking
- 7:09Speaker 2: at buying a full length mirror for my apartment for ages,
- 7:12Speaker 2: but they're all like four hundred dollars new, so I
- 7:14Speaker 2: just couldn't justify the price. I went on Facebook marketplace randomly,
- 7:19Speaker 2: and someone was giving away nine groovy floor length mirrors
- 7:22Speaker 2: for free.
- 7:23Speaker 3: The only catch was that.
- 7:24Speaker 2: I did have to take allmine, so now my house
- 7:27Speaker 2: looks a little bit like a changing room. I'm super
- 7:29Speaker 2: stoked at my find though, and I might give a
- 7:31Speaker 2: few away to my friends to spread the joy around.
- 7:33Speaker 2: Did you see this in the group?
- 7:34Speaker 3: No? I mean mirrors are gorgeous.
- 7:37Speaker 2: Sarah has got any left? I know a girl me
- 7:40Speaker 2: it was pretty keen. I'm taking one off your hands,
- 7:43Speaker 2: but a very cool and quirky win there. The final
- 7:46Speaker 2: win of today comes from Brodie money Win. I lost
- 7:49Speaker 2: my phone in the car park of our Locals shopping
- 7:51Speaker 2: center while running my crying newborn back to the car. Flustered,
- 7:54Speaker 2: I didn't realize until I got to the car that
- 7:56Speaker 2: it didn't connect to my blue tooth, and then rushed
- 7:59Speaker 2: to the service where a lovely gentleman had handed my
- 8:02Speaker 2: phone back in with all the bank cards, health cards
- 8:04Speaker 2: and cash still in there. I was walking back to
- 8:07Speaker 2: the car where a local radio station was doing a
- 8:09Speaker 2: promo where you press a button for the chance to win.
- 8:12Speaker 3: I was feeling lucky.
- 8:13Speaker 2: I pressed a button and I won one thousand dollars.
- 8:17Speaker 2: So my tears of gratitude turned to tears of joy.
- 8:20Speaker 2: Not only did I not need to buy a new
- 8:22Speaker 2: phone license and chase new cards, but I also got
- 8:24Speaker 2: to spoil my girls with a playroom brieferb and a
- 8:26Speaker 2: weekend away wholesome.
- 8:29Speaker 3: What a good way to end them. Yeah, it's been
- 8:31Speaker 3: so good celebrating some of your budget Direct money wins
- 8:34Speaker 3: for award winning insurance search Budget Direct, Budget Direct Insurance Solved.
- 8:39Speaker 3: Let's head to a break, George, and then when we
- 8:41Speaker 3: come back, we've got some fun exciting shoes on the
- 8:44Speaker 3: money use and a chance to win something la la. See.
- 8:47Speaker 3: Then already we normally tackle some news in this slot
- 8:53Speaker 3: on the podcast, but to be honest, this week it's
- 8:55Speaker 3: all been election and a lot of other stuff. That
- 8:58Speaker 3: really is just a bit heavy, I think for the week.
- 9:01Speaker 3: And on the flip side, we have some fun sheees
- 9:03Speaker 3: on the Money news and updates to share, so we thought,
- 9:06Speaker 3: why not be a little little self promotional share the
- 9:08Speaker 3: fun things. There's a good chance for you to win something,
- 9:11Speaker 3: so stick to the end to hear that. First things first,
- 9:14Speaker 3: if you follow us on Instagram, you would have seen
- 9:16Speaker 3: that last week we did a fundraiser for TLC's Trackie
- 9:19Speaker 3: Act Day. Ye incredible stuff TLC for kids. As you
- 9:23Speaker 3: guys know, Victoria's the treasurer of that charity and they
- 9:26Speaker 3: do amazing work giving kids their last ride, kids with
- 9:29Speaker 3: chronic illness and all other kinds of problems and it's
- 9:32Speaker 3: just a really special thing to be able to be
- 9:34Speaker 3: involved with. And every year they have their annual Trackie
- 9:36Speaker 3: Act Day. Don't have to tell me twice to wear
- 9:38Speaker 3: my tracksuit pants, that's what's for sure. See you wear
- 9:40Speaker 3: your tracksuit pants. And we had some amazing prizes to
- 9:43Speaker 3: give away from some of our favorite brands. Of course,
- 9:46Speaker 3: when I got a Shees on the Money master Class,
- 9:48Speaker 3: a Jagged give voucher, a huge Mecha prize pack for
- 9:51Speaker 3: the Full Sunday Body range and a subscription to keep
- 9:53Speaker 3: it cleaner, and we were able to raise over two
- 9:56Speaker 3: thousand dollars. Amazing, So thank you so much to everybody
- 10:00Speaker 3: who bought a ticket. Genuinely, it's so special to us
- 10:02Speaker 3: to be able to raise the money for a great
- 10:05Speaker 3: charity and kind of put our work beyond ourselves and
- 10:08Speaker 3: put someone else up the front and share their cause
- 10:11Speaker 3: and just do something really special. So thank you so
- 10:13Speaker 3: much if you donated, or if you shared, or if
- 10:15Speaker 3: you wore your track suit pants, any little bit like
- 10:18Speaker 3: that really really counts and gotish to where we were.
- 10:20Speaker 2: Exactly right, and throw tales see for kids to follow
- 10:23Speaker 2: it on Instagram if you don't follow them already. They
- 10:25Speaker 2: are doing incredible work. They're a humble bunch, so they
- 10:28Speaker 2: don't really sing their own praises, so we'll do it
- 10:30Speaker 2: for them. Yeah, definitely, but maybe we'll throw that in
- 10:32Speaker 2: the show notes if we can.
- 10:34Speaker 3: Yeah. Incredible with the book as well. We kind of
- 10:37Speaker 3: we outed this last week, so I won't spend too
- 10:39Speaker 3: long on it. But a few people like what so
- 10:42Speaker 3: a little more information for you because clearly we didn't
- 10:44Speaker 3: give enough. The second seese on the Money Book, it's
- 10:47Speaker 3: all about investing, which is very exciting. You know how
- 10:50Speaker 3: passionate we are about it here, and so it only
- 10:52Speaker 3: made sense for it to be the second book. I
- 10:55Speaker 3: have had a sneaky peek at the manuscript and guys,
- 10:58Speaker 3: it's a good one. It's it's fully actionable. It takes
- 11:01Speaker 3: you right the way through from what everything is, what
- 11:03Speaker 3: you need to know, what to look for, and you
- 11:05Speaker 3: finish up with a really solid plan that you can
- 11:08Speaker 3: put together yourself. You don't need to see a financial advisor.
- 11:11Speaker 3: We are giving you all of the tools that you
- 11:13Speaker 3: need to put yourself in that positive position without having
- 11:16Speaker 3: to splash the cash on seeing somebody. So it's a
- 11:19Speaker 3: really empowering read. Might be a little bit biased, but
- 11:22Speaker 3: the first book was phenomenal and if you enjoyed that one,
- 11:26Speaker 3: I can almost guarantee that you're going to enjoy the
- 11:28Speaker 3: second one as well.
- 11:29Speaker 2: So would you say that this book Jayrek is good
- 11:31Speaker 2: for people who have maybe just started investing and people
- 11:34Speaker 2: who also haven't like what stage of your journey should
- 11:36Speaker 2: you be at?
- 11:37Speaker 3: Like who's the best? It's kind of for everyone. So
- 11:39Speaker 3: if you have started investing and you're maybe feeling like
- 11:42Speaker 3: you're kind of know what you're doing, but not really.
- 11:45Speaker 3: It's worth a read because Ve dives super deeply into
- 11:49Speaker 3: different concepts, different ways of assessing shares. She talks about
- 11:53Speaker 3: rebalancing your portfolio, tax all of those things that when
- 11:57Speaker 3: you're first learning about investing and maybe your micro investing,
- 12:01Speaker 3: you start with a smaller skill set and you build
- 12:02Speaker 3: your way up. So it's written in a way that
- 12:05Speaker 3: if you have no idea how to invest, you should
- 12:07Speaker 3: walk away feeling empowered, or if you're kind of you've
- 12:10Speaker 3: dipped your toe in the water. You've got a bit
- 12:11Speaker 3: of an idea, but you're not feeling fully educated on
- 12:15Speaker 3: all of the concepts yet. And the nice thing about
- 12:17Speaker 3: a book is you can write on it, you can
- 12:19Speaker 3: bookmarkt We saw a lot of people with the first
- 12:22Speaker 3: one putting those fun colorful tabs in it, and you
- 12:25Speaker 3: can come back to it again and again, and it's
- 12:27Speaker 3: really tangible. So I think for kind of anyone along
- 12:30Speaker 3: the journey, it's a really good rate.
- 12:32Speaker 2: And a good little gift perhaps as well, I can't think,
- 12:35Speaker 2: I mean Christmas is a little far away, but still
- 12:38Speaker 2: get organized girlies.
- 12:39Speaker 3: Well it is on sale right now, so if you
- 12:41Speaker 3: did want to get yourself a pre order. You can
- 12:43Speaker 3: save yourself a cheek heat twenty percent for you for
- 12:45Speaker 3: a gift, whatever you want to do.
- 12:47Speaker 2: That's the money in and it comes out in September.
- 12:49Speaker 2: If I am not mistaken, September twentieth.
- 12:51Speaker 3: Correct, it's not far away, so get excited. We are
- 12:54Speaker 3: so pumped and we're even more pumped to be bringing
- 12:57Speaker 3: you hopefully a little book tour around that time as well,
- 13:00Speaker 3: so stay tuned for.
- 13:01Speaker 2: That and our final update of the day, Jay Rick,
- 13:04Speaker 2: is a special event we have coming up.
- 13:06Speaker 3: I believe. Oh my goodness, guys, it's nearly our birthday,
- 13:09Speaker 3: the third anniversary birthday of She's on the money. That's crazy,
- 13:13Speaker 3: I know. Can you believe? It's so weird to think
- 13:15Speaker 3: that it's been three years because it seems like forever
- 13:17Speaker 3: and also no time at all. You feel the same way.
- 13:20Speaker 3: It's bizarre to me, really strange. So this year we're
- 13:23Speaker 3: celebrating we're out of COVID. We were meant to do
- 13:25Speaker 3: this last year. I think we spoke about it and
- 13:27Speaker 3: it didn't happen, so we are pumped to be doing
- 13:30Speaker 3: it this year after twelve months of waiting. June thirtieth,
- 13:33Speaker 3: we're holding a special event here in Melbourne. It also
- 13:36Speaker 3: happens to be vd's birthday. It's a double birthday bash
- 13:39Speaker 3: because it's the end of financial year. It's the ultimate irony.
- 13:42Speaker 3: It really, just truly is an alignment of like no other.
- 13:45Speaker 3: But the only way to get there is to win tickets. Hello,
- 13:49Speaker 3: you can't buy in. We wanted to make it so
- 13:51Speaker 3: that anybody could come, so if you do want to
- 13:53Speaker 3: enter for that, there'll be a link in the show
- 13:55Speaker 3: notes as well to head to our website and you
- 13:57Speaker 3: can still in a form tell us why you want
- 13:59Speaker 3: to come. We're giving a way double passes. So maybe
- 14:01Speaker 3: you want to come because you want to bring your
- 14:02Speaker 3: mum because she taught you so much about money, or
- 14:04Speaker 3: your best friend who's starting to work their way out
- 14:07Speaker 3: of debt and needs to be a little bit empowered.
- 14:09Speaker 3: There's going to be all kinds of fun things there. George,
- 14:12Speaker 3: We're going to do a live potty. The whole team
- 14:14Speaker 3: is going to be there. It's going to be a
- 14:15Speaker 3: Friday drink, so you know it's going to get a
- 14:17Speaker 3: little bit loose. It'll be really fun. There's going to
- 14:19Speaker 3: be food and drinks and dancing, some very swish gift
- 14:22Speaker 3: bags of co We do say so ourselves. You would
- 14:25Speaker 3: expect nothing less, and it's just going to be a
- 14:27Speaker 3: really good time, I think, to celebrate us and the
- 14:30Speaker 3: community and everything that has happened over the past three years.
- 14:33Speaker 3: So if you do want to be there, definitely check
- 14:36Speaker 3: it out. And if you're not based in Melbourne, we've
- 14:38Speaker 3: got some good news for you, so very excitingly, we
- 14:42Speaker 3: will be giving away one double pass from an interstate

- 15:37Speaker 2: today's money dilemma.
- 15:40Speaker 4: Hi, She's on the Money. My partner and I have
- 15:44Speaker 4: a few different big money goals that we want to
- 15:47Speaker 4: achieve over the span of how the many years that takes.
- 15:52Speaker 4: We've already cracked down in the last year and have
- 15:55Speaker 4: achieved something which is amazing, and now onto the next thing.
- 16:00Speaker 4: It kind of feels like we don't have a break.
- 16:02Speaker 4: We're always saving really hard, We've made sacrifices that sort
- 16:07Speaker 4: of thing. Do we keep pushing on until rereach the end?
- 16:12Speaker 4: Or like is there never going to be an end?
- 16:15Speaker 4: Like do you just enjoy the every day just struggling? Yeah?
- 16:19Speaker 4: Without mentality at the moment, thinks.
- 16:22Speaker 2: Look, I don't know where to start with that dilemma.
- 16:26Speaker 2: I think the first thing to kind of note is
- 16:28Speaker 2: her tone. She sounds really really flat and she found
- 16:32Speaker 2: out Yeah, so I hope you're okay, dear listener, But
- 16:37Speaker 2: I think the place that I would start is firstly
- 16:41Speaker 2: to congratulate you on the massive goal that you said
- 16:43Speaker 2: you achieved very recently with your partner. That's incredible. But
- 16:47Speaker 2: I think what we probably need to be doing here
- 16:50Speaker 2: is celebrating our wins along the way and making room
- 16:54Speaker 2: in our budget for fun things, because we're not just
- 16:57Speaker 2: earning to reach those bigger goals, we're earning to live
- 17:00Speaker 2: a life that we love along the way, and it
- 17:02Speaker 2: is so important to find that balance to keep you
- 17:05Speaker 2: on track to those bigger goals. And if you don't
- 17:08Speaker 2: feel like you have anything to look forward to along
- 17:10Speaker 2: the way, then it's really hard to keep on going.
- 17:14Speaker 2: It sounds like you've really burnt out. Yeah, what do
- 17:16Speaker 2: you think, j Rik?
- 17:17Speaker 3: Yeah, one hundred percent. I think kind of taking a
- 17:20Speaker 3: step back to look at your priorities because you know,
- 17:23Speaker 3: you said, does it ever end? And I mean the
- 17:25Speaker 3: short answer is no. I think as humans, we achieve
- 17:28Speaker 3: something and then we go, what's the next thing? Where
- 17:31Speaker 3: are we going? What are we doing? So, like you said, gee,
- 17:33Speaker 3: making sure that you're taking time to celebrate and where possible,
- 17:37Speaker 3: making room in your budget for little wins and celebrations
- 17:40Speaker 3: for yourself, but also kind of going, Okay, well, I've
- 17:44Speaker 3: just achieved this big goal. I've got my next one.
- 17:46Speaker 3: What does that timeline look like for me? Do I
- 17:49Speaker 3: want to push it out a little bit further so
- 17:51Speaker 3: that I can enjoy my life more comfortably on the
- 17:53Speaker 3: way there, or is it something that I want to
- 17:55Speaker 3: tackle urgently. Is it a debt, because if so, you're
- 17:58Speaker 3: paying interest, maybe you want to look at doing that
- 17:59Speaker 3: sooner rather than later. Or is it, you know, a
- 18:02Speaker 3: goal that I can afford to stretch out a bit
- 18:04Speaker 3: so I can enjoy the journey there a little bit more.
- 18:06Speaker 3: Because yeah, like we will always theoretically have a goal.
- 18:09Speaker 3: I think if you don't have a goal, you'd probably
- 18:11Speaker 3: be feeling a little bit aimless and going, oh, well,
- 18:13Speaker 3: what am I doing? I'm just floating along. So, yes,
- 18:16Speaker 3: you will always have a goal, and you probably will
- 18:17Speaker 3: always be working towards something, and that doesn't have to
- 18:20Speaker 3: be a bad thing as long as you're taking the
- 18:22Speaker 3: time to enjoy yourself as well. One hundred percent. I think,
- 18:27Speaker 3: just judging from our listener's voice as well, I'm probably
- 18:29Speaker 3: honed into the tone and the voice. It sounds like
- 18:32Speaker 3: she is quite young, so I wouldn't be putting too
- 18:35Speaker 3: much pressure on myself in my early twenties to achieve
- 18:38Speaker 3: all of these things when you do have the rest
- 18:40Speaker 3: of your life to be doing that. In saying that
- 18:43Speaker 3: it is so important that you have those goals, and
- 18:46Speaker 3: well done to you for having them, but I would
- 18:48Speaker 3: also suggest perhaps breaking them down into smaller goals. It's
- 18:52Speaker 3: hard because we don't know what you've got lined up.
- 18:55Speaker 3: You did say that they are larger goals, so maybe
- 18:57Speaker 3: like a house deposit, maybe paying off your car, things
- 18:59Speaker 3: like that. But maybe if you set like monthly saving
- 19:03Speaker 3: goals to hit those larger goals, and treating yourself when
- 19:07Speaker 3: you hit those smaller goals along the way could be helpful,
- 19:10Speaker 3: almost like a personal KPI. Yes, save your corporate I
- 19:14Speaker 3: want to hit this thing, and when I hit this thing,
- 19:15Speaker 3: I get to go on a really nice dinner, or
- 19:17Speaker 3: I get to go and you know, purchase something that
- 19:20Speaker 3: I've really had my eye on, or save up towards
- 19:22Speaker 3: that I don't forget. If you are working towards a goal,
- 19:25Speaker 3: you don't have to be putting one hundred percent of
- 19:27Speaker 3: everything towards it. And again like you said, it's a
- 19:30Speaker 3: little hard because we don't know what exactly the outcome
- 19:32Speaker 3: is here. But if you're saving for a house deposit,
- 19:34Speaker 3: for example, you can have your big house deposit account
- 19:37Speaker 3: that you know a large portion of your savings are
- 19:40Speaker 3: going towards. But you can also have a smaller account
- 19:42Speaker 3: that you're allocating for a holiday or you know, for
- 19:45Speaker 3: some new clothes or an adventure that you want to have,
- 19:48Speaker 3: or you know, whatever motivates you. You don't have to
- 19:50Speaker 3: be all or nothing. You can actually do a couple
- 19:52Speaker 3: of things at once. But it ultimately does come down
- 19:55Speaker 3: to how much you value that thing that you're working
- 19:58Speaker 3: towards versus the other thing. And that's kind of how
- 20:01Speaker 3: you can break it down and maybe make it a
- 20:03Speaker 3: little bit more fun.
- 20:04Speaker 2: Yeah, is that how you manage your money?
- 20:06Speaker 3: Jbrid Yeah, as everybody knows, Like, my house deposit is
- 20:09Speaker 3: my big thing right now, which is where most of
- 20:11Speaker 3: my money is going. But like I said last week,
- 20:13Speaker 3: I am reallocating some of those funds this month because
- 20:16Speaker 3: I'm going away on a girl's trip with VD And
- 20:18Speaker 3: so for me, I decided that I valued that and
- 20:21Speaker 3: I rearranged my I guess savings schedule if you will
- 20:25Speaker 3: for the month and decided that that trip was going
- 20:28Speaker 3: to be a priority for me because I have worked
- 20:30Speaker 3: really hard and it has been a long time since
- 20:31Speaker 3: I've done something like that, and I did have to
- 20:34Speaker 3: remind myself not to feel guilty about it. Yeah, because
- 20:36Speaker 3: you do get really set in you know, this goal
- 20:39Speaker 3: is the be all and end all, and I must
- 20:41Speaker 3: do everything that I can to get there. And that
- 20:44Speaker 3: mindset can be really powerful, but it can also lead
- 20:47Speaker 3: to burnout exactly. And so if you're not celebrating and
- 20:49Speaker 3: making those little allowances and being gentle and kind to yourself,
- 20:53Speaker 3: then you probably will end up feeling a bit icky
- 20:55Speaker 3: about them. Yeah.
- 20:56Speaker 2: We also did do an episode on spending guilt, which
- 20:58Speaker 2: could be a good one for this great cool listen
- 21:01Speaker 2: to well loveily chatting with you as always, Jessica through
