- 0:22Speaker 1: as Farmlands.
- 0:22Speaker 2: Jamie McKay, host of the Countries with us Alo Jamie.
- 0:26Speaker 3: Hello here that I'm standing outside and the cold outside.
- 0:28Speaker 3: You're building an auckland believe it or not? Are you
- 0:31Speaker 3: stuck outside? Well? No, I haven't got time to go.
- 0:34Speaker 3: And obviously before I do this across there was a
- 0:37Speaker 3: big security hold up at the airport. Otherwise there would
- 0:39Speaker 3: have been in time to do it live. So oh,
- 0:43Speaker 3: James gone out here and I can read my notes.
- 0:45Speaker 2: Oh, I'm so sorry. It's so strange to me that
- 0:48Speaker 2: you are about about ten meters away and yet so far.
- 0:50Speaker 2: But anyway, we'll see you when you come on in. Listen.
- 0:53Speaker 2: Talk to me about the dairy companies cashing in on
- 0:54Speaker 2: the demand for the buy act of proteins. What's going
- 0:57Speaker 2: on here?
- 0:58Speaker 3: Well? First, can I just say the text congratulations to
- 1:02Speaker 3: the text who called you a disingenuous little links I
- 1:05Speaker 3: think that is one of the greatest one liners of
- 1:07Speaker 3: all time.
- 1:08Speaker 2: Not the text coming in now though heither you are
- 1:12Speaker 2: a disingenuous little minx et cetera.
- 1:15Speaker 3: It should be, but it's kind of it's almost complementary.
- 1:18Speaker 2: This is yeah, I'll take it.
- 1:19Speaker 3: Yeah, I'll take it. Yeah, okay anything so well, well,
- 1:24Speaker 3: the dairy companies are cashing in on way, which is
- 1:27Speaker 3: a by product of cheese production. So a fresh cow's
- 1:32Speaker 3: milk consists of water with small fractions of lactose, fat
- 1:35Speaker 3: and protein. After the dairy process has removed the fat
- 1:39Speaker 3: and separated the casine protein, the leftover liquid is why.
- 1:42Speaker 3: And everyone's going nuts on this. We know all about
- 1:45Speaker 3: this because of the GPL or GLP one drugs whatever
- 1:49Speaker 3: they called, the weight loss drugs, the exempics and all that.
- 1:52Speaker 3: So Rabobank, in a recent agribusiness report, said weigh powder
- 1:56Speaker 3: prices were up seventy six percent in June compared to
- 1:59Speaker 3: the same time last year. Spot price is up sixty
- 2:03Speaker 3: percent from the start of twenty twenty six. Everyone wants them,
- 2:07Speaker 3: and gens z and millennials, you know, the ones who
- 2:10Speaker 3: wanted to the gym carrying a water bottle with them
- 2:14Speaker 3: wherever they go. Look, they just can't get enough of
- 2:16Speaker 3: this way stuff.
- 2:17Speaker 2: Yeah, you describe them so well, hey, what is it
- 2:20Speaker 2: that's going well for Halter at the moment?
- 2:21Speaker 3: If not everything Well, everything's going well for Halter at
- 2:26Speaker 3: the moment. They've got one point five million cows collared
- 2:30Speaker 3: up globally now and they're not necessarily all cows. We
- 2:33Speaker 3: need to be a bit more definitive on this. They
- 2:37Speaker 3: started really here in New Zealand anyhow, Craig Pikett was
- 2:40Speaker 3: the guy. Came from a Wacatto dairy farm and it
- 2:43Speaker 3: was really a product for the dairy industry for the
- 2:46Speaker 3: milking cows on the intensive farms. But I think the
- 2:49Speaker 3: real future for Halter in a lot of ways is
- 2:51Speaker 3: more extensive than that, and it's beef farming. It's beef
- 2:55Speaker 3: cattle grazing all over the place on very extensive pieces
- 3:00Speaker 3: of land that may not have fencing. And you don't
- 3:04Speaker 3: need fencing obviously with with Halter because it's a it's
- 3:08Speaker 3: a virtual fencing product. So and it's made even easier
- 3:12Speaker 3: now because we've got Halter on our old home farm
- 3:16Speaker 3: down in Southland and you have to build a radio
- 3:18Speaker 3: tower to get the message into the cow's collars. But
- 3:21Speaker 3: now since April of this year they had Elon Musk
- 3:24Speaker 3: gave them a director satellite service, so it's revolutionized this.
- 3:28Speaker 3: You can get animals grazing literally anywhere in the world
- 3:32Speaker 3: and you can control their exact movements. So this is
- 3:35Speaker 3: a company on the way up. Three hundred and ninety
- 3:37Speaker 3: staff here in New Zealand, five hundred and thirty five Globally,
- 3:41Speaker 3: they're they're in Australia, New Zealand, America, they're heading into Europe,
- 3:46Speaker 3: They're heading into South America. They're currently serving more than
- 3:50Speaker 3: three and a half thousand farms and ranches. So look,
- 3:54Speaker 3: this is one to watch. Craig Peggott who learned his
- 3:57Speaker 3: trade off Sir Peter Beckett Rocket Lab. He's going to
- 4:01Speaker 3: be the next tech billionaire. I think technically he is already.
- 4:04Speaker 2: Yeah, got on him, mate, Jamie, thanks very much. Come
- 4:06Speaker 2: on in then, let's see you in the flesh here
- 4:08Speaker 2: in the building. Did Jamie mackay hosts of the Country.
