Transcript
- 0:00SPEAKER_00: On this episode, I'm going to tell you about a very common trap that a lot of agents fall into, and it's a reason why you're struggling, it's a reason why you're not performing at the level you think you should be.
- 0:10SPEAKER_00: I fell into this trap myself.
- 0:12SPEAKER_00: Here's how to identify it and what to do instead.
- 0:15SPEAKER_01: The massive agent podcast.

- 0:24SPEAKER_00: I like to sell houses.
- 0:25SPEAKER_01: It takes brass balls to sell it.
- 0:28SPEAKER_01: Wait a minute.
- 0:29SPEAKER_01: Leads a week.
- 0:31SPEAKER_01: You're a week.
- 0:32SPEAKER_01: I've had better.
- 0:34SPEAKER_01: Oh.

- 0:49SPEAKER_00: Hope you are having an amazing fucking week.
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: Today is a short and sweet episode.
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: There's a concept that I need you to be aware of.
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: There's a there's a trap that I see so many agents falling into, and I see it because I used to do it.
- 1:02SPEAKER_00: I did it for years.
- 1:04SPEAKER_00: It kept me struggling for years, for way longer than it had to.
- 1:09SPEAKER_00: And so many agents fall into this.
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna sh I'm gonna share with you what it is, how to identify that you're doing it, and then how to fix it.
- 1:17SPEAKER_00: Because identifying it's really the key.
- 1:19SPEAKER_00: Once you can identify it, once you know you're doing it, then you can consciously correct it and say, okay, let's stop doing that shit and move forward.
- 1:27SPEAKER_00: If you are new to the show, welcome to the Massive Agent Podcast.
- 1:31SPEAKER_00: I am your host, Dustin Brohm.
- 1:32SPEAKER_00: I'm an agent here in Salt Lake City, Utah.
- 1:35SPEAKER_00: Before we jump into the bulk, the girth, the meat of the of the podcast today.
- 1:41SPEAKER_00: I said girth without giggling.
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: That's that's impressive.
- 1:43SPEAKER_00: I want to share with you a tool that is underutilized by a ton of agents.
- 1:48SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna be sharing a couple of them with you, but but one right now, you need to be part of the BAM X community.
- 1:54SPEAKER_00: This is not just a place where you get some online courses, which you do.
- 1:59SPEAKER_00: This is not just a place to learn some amazing stuff that's gonna further your business, it is, but it's a place to connect with and create referral relationships with and learn from and you know build partnerships and friendships with a ton of like-minded agents from all across the country.
- 2:14SPEAKER_00: And it's called BAMX.
- 2:16SPEAKER_00: And you can get a discount by using the code MASSIVE at checkout.
- 2:20SPEAKER_00: Code MASSIVE gets you a discount, 10% off MassiveAgent Podcast.com slash BAMX, where you can find out more about the community and what it is and what's included.
- 2:31SPEAKER_00: Because, like I said, there's a bunch of online courses that are really, really freaking good for as little as ten dollars a month.
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: But save even more, just use the code MASSIVE at checkout.
- 2:41SPEAKER_00: Every agent I've talked to that's part of BAMX loves it.
- 2:45SPEAKER_00: The there's they're amazed that it costs as little as it does.
- 2:48SPEAKER_00: They I won't I won't tell BAM this, but they say they would pay much more for it.
- 2:53SPEAKER_00: Uh it's just an incredible value, and I agree.
- 2:56SPEAKER_00: So BAMX, massive agentpodcast.com slash BAMX.
- 3:00SPEAKER_00: Use code MASSIVE at checkout to get yourself a discount.
- 3:03SPEAKER_00: Get in that community.
- 3:05SPEAKER_00: It's just second to none.
- 3:06SPEAKER_00: It's very unique and very powerful.
- 3:10SPEAKER_00: So here's a concept that I want you guys to get very familiar with.
- 3:14SPEAKER_00: Well, actually, you are.
- 3:15SPEAKER_00: So I want you to familiarize yourself with the concept and then get your ass out of it.
- 3:21SPEAKER_00: I see agents doing this all the time because it takes one to know one.
- 3:25SPEAKER_00: It takes someone who's done this, who's fallen into this trap, who's stayed stuck in the trap for years, to know when others are doing it.
- 3:33SPEAKER_00: And it's super common.
- 3:34SPEAKER_00: And the trap is this you're over-analyzing, you're over-researching, you're over-learning, you're over-preparing to avoid doing work.
- 3:45SPEAKER_00: Now, here's where there's nuance to it.
- 3:48SPEAKER_00: In the beginning of certain things, like if you're learning how to be a great content creator, you're gonna need to learn some things.
- 3:53SPEAKER_00: Yes, you must spend time learning and researching and learning how you know the lighting goes with the camera and the audio settings and you know, you know, how to how to say good hooks, like how to write great hooks, how to say the hook, how to come across you know, energetic and charismatic on camera.
- 4:10SPEAKER_00: That takes practice, of course.
- 4:12SPEAKER_00: You're gonna have to learn some things to a point.
- 4:15SPEAKER_00: Market research, learning what's going on in your market, knowing how many homes are coming on, how many are selling, what's the absorption rate, and all of that shit.
- 4:23SPEAKER_00: That's all great.
- 4:24SPEAKER_00: You need to know that to a point.
- 4:27SPEAKER_00: You need to be learning, you need to be doing self-development, personal development.
- 4:31SPEAKER_00: You should be reading, you should be consuming a ton of content that helps you between the ears level up to a point.
- 4:39SPEAKER_00: But there's there there becomes a point where you just do too much of that because you're using it as an excuse to not take action.
- 4:48SPEAKER_00: Like, well, I'm just I'm gonna watch this YouTube video, I'll write that email tomorrow, I'll record that video tomorrow.
- 4:54SPEAKER_00: I'm just gonna watch one more YouTube video, I'm just gonna listen to one more podcast, I'm gonna read one more book, I'm gonna do whatever.
- 5:00SPEAKER_00: I've done this, and when I look back, I did this for years.
- 5:04SPEAKER_00: Now, yes, you can learning is always good, but what I've learned from experience is that the most powerful learning comes from experience.
- 5:15SPEAKER_00: If you really want to learn, you need to learn some basic shit, but by doing the thing, by jumping in the game, by actually starting the thing that you tell yourself you're gonna start, by actually doing that thing, you will learn so much more than you ever would by reading a book or watching videos.
- 5:33SPEAKER_00: Doing leads to learning, and there's a lot of other benefits to doing, like you know, results, growth, money, revenue, income, home, home sales, brand growth, all of it.
- 5:46SPEAKER_00: You're never gonna grow a personal brand learning about how to do it.
- 5:50SPEAKER_00: You're never gonna grow a big social media following learning how you're going to have to learn by doing.
- 5:57SPEAKER_00: And this is where so many agents fuck up, so many humans fuck up, so many business people fuck up right here.
- 6:02SPEAKER_00: And if you've ever been to uh a personal development conference, you'll run into these people who are habitual, like they are they're addicted to conferences, they just jump from one training to another, to another, to another, and then who like let's say that training is for like T Har Vecker, the author of Secrets of the Millionaire Mind.
- 6:23SPEAKER_00: I went to some of his his uh trainings before, and they're incredible.
- 6:27SPEAKER_00: But the train the the conferences, the trainings, the seminars are meant to sell you their coaching, which is great.
- 6:34SPEAKER_00: I've done it, it's awesome.
- 6:36SPEAKER_00: And and I have no problem with that.
- 6:38SPEAKER_00: Like I that's a great relationship, it's beautiful.
- 6:40SPEAKER_00: However, there's some that all they do is they just keep going and joining trainings, joining coaches, you know, doing this, that, and the other, and they never actually fucking start their business.
- 6:49SPEAKER_00: They never actually do the thing that they're going to those seminars to learn how to do.
- 6:54SPEAKER_00: They're never actually starting the thing that they're going to the seminars to learn or or to build up the energy and motivation to start.
- 7:02SPEAKER_00: If you've been wanting to start a YouTube channel, stop learning and start doing.
- 7:08SPEAKER_00: You're gonna learn through doing.
- 7:10SPEAKER_00: You want to start a podcast, learn like three things, and then fucking start.
- 7:16SPEAKER_00: Watch one five-minute YouTube video on how a hosting platform platform works.
- 7:21SPEAKER_00: How to it's podcasting is one of the easiest things you could ever do, marketing-wise.
- 7:27SPEAKER_00: It's a commitment for sure.
- 7:29SPEAKER_00: We've done an episode every single week for five and a half years, over five and a half years now.
- 7:35SPEAKER_00: 298 straight episodes, never missed a week.
- 7:39SPEAKER_00: That's a commitment.
- 7:40SPEAKER_00: But that's what it takes.
- 7:42SPEAKER_00: It's also so easy to do a podcast.
- 7:44SPEAKER_00: You you're recording yourself speaking, you upload it to the internet, and the hosting platform sends it out to Apple and Spotify and Pocket Casts and all the places.
- 7:55SPEAKER_00: By the way, what do you guys listen to?
- 7:57SPEAKER_00: Uh I know, I know what most of you guys listen to.
- 8:00SPEAKER_00: Of this show, I'm pulling up my stats right now.
- 8:03SPEAKER_00: Uh, 70 79% of you listen on Apple Podcasts, the purple podcasting app.
- 8:10SPEAKER_00: 6% of you listen on Spotify, 3% listen on unknown Apple apps, so maybe that's like CarPlay and whatever, then Overcast and Castbox.
- 8:20SPEAKER_00: I listen to a podcast on Pocket Casts.
- 8:22SPEAKER_00: I love Pocket Cast.
- 8:24SPEAKER_00: It's my favorite podcasting platform uh by far for so many different reasons.
- 8:28SPEAKER_00: The the the purple podcasting app on the iPhone, it's just easy, but it's lacking so much in searchability, functionality.
- 8:36SPEAKER_00: It's uh I love pocket casts, anyways.
- 8:38SPEAKER_00: Um enough of that squirrel moment for the day.
- 8:41SPEAKER_00: It's good to it's good for the squirrel to come back on the show.
- 8:43SPEAKER_00: It's been a minute.
- 8:45SPEAKER_00: Anyhow, when I I wanted to start podcasting for a good year or two prior to when I did, and then finally one day, New Year's Day, it was 2018, January 1st, 2018, walking my dog at night, listening to another podcast talking about how powerful podcasting is because of how long people will listen for, right?
- 9:06SPEAKER_00: Versus a social media video.
- 9:08SPEAKER_00: And I decided right then there, okay, I'm just I'm just gonna go record it tonight.
- 9:13SPEAKER_00: And when I did that, I realized, holy shit, why have I been waiting?
- 9:17SPEAKER_00: It's so simple to record an audio file, upload it once you have a hosting platform, which is like ten to twenty dollars a month.
- 9:24SPEAKER_00: Use Buzz Sprout, oh, by the way, massive agentpodcast.com slash buzzsprout, the best in the game.
- 9:30SPEAKER_00: I love them.
- 9:31SPEAKER_00: Uh but then that's it.
- 9:34SPEAKER_00: And then then you just have to get people to know about the show and do a good show continually, right?
- 9:38SPEAKER_00: So I I'm like, oh my god, I waited for so long thinking that I had to learn how to do a podcast of all this stuff, there's all these things.
- 9:47SPEAKER_00: When then when I actually did it, I was so pissed.
- 9:50SPEAKER_00: And I've done that so many times in my life with launching a website, with starting a YouTube channel, with uh with starting my team, the team that I have now.
- 9:58SPEAKER_00: I thought that it had to be much more complicated or structured this certain way, and I realized no, it doesn't.
- 10:03SPEAKER_00: And it's incredible how much further ahead you are and how much more you know, and how much more ready you are than you give yourself credit for.
- 10:12SPEAKER_00: But we use overanalysis, we use learning, we use research as a as a way to hold us back from taking action.
- 10:20SPEAKER_00: Because it's easier, it's easier to just not do, it's easier to not hit record on the video and to just, I'm gonna read this article instead.
- 10:29SPEAKER_00: Because you think you're being productive.
- 10:31SPEAKER_00: When you're learning, when you're going to seminars and like doing all this stuff, it you absolutely feel like you're being productive.
- 10:38SPEAKER_00: So here's the key.
- 10:39SPEAKER_00: If you feel like, you know what, maybe there's some truth to this.
- 10:42SPEAKER_00: Maybe maybe I am speaking to you and you're feeling it.
- 10:46SPEAKER_00: There's some self-awareness popping up here, which is a very good thing.
- 10:49SPEAKER_00: What's going to help you recognize it is if you can think about your mindset at the moment and think, am I am I just doing more research?
- 10:59SPEAKER_00: Am I just learning to avoid taking action?
- 11:02SPEAKER_00: Ask yourself that question.
- 11:03SPEAKER_00: Are you doing more research to avoid taking action?
- 11:06SPEAKER_00: Do you really need more information?
- 11:08SPEAKER_00: Because I bet 98% of the time, you don't need more information.
- 11:13SPEAKER_00: You need implementation, you need action.
- 11:17SPEAKER_00: And the learning and the lessons and all those mistakes and shit, that's going to happen, and you're going to learn from the mistakes.
- 11:24SPEAKER_00: You're going to learn by doing shit wrong.
- 11:26SPEAKER_00: You're going to learn by sucking.
- 11:28SPEAKER_00: Everyone goes through it.
- 11:29SPEAKER_00: You can't avoid it.
- 11:30SPEAKER_00: So whether you start doing it now or two years from now, when you're finally done learning, you're still going to suck.
- 11:37SPEAKER_00: You have to get the suckage out of the way.
- 11:40SPEAKER_00: Get the suckage out of the way now so you don't have to later.
- 11:44SPEAKER_00: That period of sucking, you have to embrace.
- 11:47SPEAKER_00: Embrace the suck.
- 11:49SPEAKER_00: The sooner you jump into that, the faster you can get out, and the faster you can start getting big results.
- 11:55SPEAKER_00: And by the way, results come even when you suck.
- 11:58SPEAKER_00: They do.
- 11:59SPEAKER_00: You're still going to be getting clients, you're still going to be getting leads, you're still going to be getting referrals, you're still going to be learning valuable lessons along the way, even when you suck.
- 12:06SPEAKER_00: So it's not like nothing good happens while you suck.
- 12:09SPEAKER_00: No, you just suck and then you get a little better and then a little better.
- 12:12SPEAKER_00: And all along the way, you're attracting the right people and you're growing and things are happening.
- 12:18SPEAKER_00: I hope that this resonates with you if you're an overanalyzer.
- 12:21SPEAKER_00: If you suffer from analysis paralysis, that is a sign that you are spending too much time and you're using learning and research as an excuse to not do.
- 12:31SPEAKER_00: If you can catch yourself, if if this is you and you catch yourself and you can correct it right now, this will be a pivotal moment in your life.
- 12:39SPEAKER_00: Because had you gone uninterrupted, would you ever actually start the thing?
- 12:44SPEAKER_00: Would you ever actually have you know left your brokerage and gone to start your own?
- 12:49SPEAKER_00: Would you ever have left your team to go solo?
- 12:51SPEAKER_00: Would you ever have you know done whatever business move your broker doesn't want you to make?
- 12:56SPEAKER_00: Would you ever have launched your YouTube channel?
- 12:59SPEAKER_00: Probably not.
- 13:01SPEAKER_00: Because you have to keep learning.
- 13:03SPEAKER_00: You learn through doing.
- 13:04SPEAKER_00: And you know that consciously.
- 13:06SPEAKER_00: But now consciously catch yourself falling into the trap of analysis paralysis.
- 13:12SPEAKER_00: And if you are learning and researching to avoid taking action, that is your sign to stop it.
- 13:19SPEAKER_00: Knock that shit off.
- 13:21SPEAKER_00: Get to work.
- 13:22SPEAKER_00: Because I promise you, the stuff that you that you really need to learn, you will learn through doing.
- 13:27SPEAKER_00: And there's really no other way than to learn through doing.
- 13:30SPEAKER_00: You can ask people that are ahead of you all you want.
- 13:32SPEAKER_00: Hey, what are some things you wish you would have known when you started?
- 13:35SPEAKER_00: Those things won't mean anything to you unless you're already doing the thing.
- 13:39SPEAKER_00: Jump in, take action, you're gonna learn.
- 13:42SPEAKER_00: And this could be one of the most important days of your life if you are an over-analyzer and over-researcher, like I was.
- 13:49SPEAKER_00: I'm a recovering overanalyzer and over-researcher, but something crazy happens.
- 13:54SPEAKER_00: Once you catch yourself, you get kind of pissed off that you do it.
- 13:57SPEAKER_00: And I've now become someone that's a ready fire aim type person, for better or worse.
- 14:02SPEAKER_00: Sometimes I quickly do shit and I'm like, eh, shouldn't have done that, or I quickly post something and I was like, oh, shouldn't have done that, shouldn't have said that.
- 14:08SPEAKER_00: But it's better overall to take action quickly than to just think and research and blah.
- 14:14SPEAKER_00: So go take action.
- 14:16SPEAKER_00: If this resonated with you, if you learned something today about yourself, please share this episode with somebody else because you know there's others out there just like you, just like me, that need to hear this shit.
- 14:27SPEAKER_00: Share this episode, help us to reach new audience, help us to grow the show, and pay it forward to someone else who needs to hear this message as well.
- 14:35SPEAKER_00: Thank you so much for listening.
- 14:37SPEAKER_00: By the way, guys, if you if you're an overanalyzer, just get keeping current matters.
- 14:41SPEAKER_00: If you're an agent, get KCM.
- 14:43SPEAKER_00: Try KCM.com slash bam.
- 14:45SPEAKER_00: They just do all this research for you, all the market research, and you know, just get keeping current matters.
- 14:51SPEAKER_00: They give it to you.
- 14:53SPEAKER_00: It these are professionals at researching that shit.
- 14:57SPEAKER_00: I'm not, I'm not, I'm not an economist.
- 14:59SPEAKER_00: I have common sense, but I'm not an economist.
- 15:01SPEAKER_00: KCM is the best.
- 15:03SPEAKER_00: Try KCM.com slash bam.
- 15:04SPEAKER_00: Go check it out, see what I'm talking about.
- 15:06SPEAKER_00: But that's a tool that will absolutely uh change everything.

- 15:12SPEAKER_00: Just jump in and do.
- 15:13SPEAKER_00: Have a great week.
