- 1:03She's known for making her debut at the Grand Ole Opry at age 99.
- 1:08Insert theme song here. This is the Daily Sarcast. I give you the news and maybe a laugh.
- 1:13I'm Kate Stein, and today is August 31, 2026.
- 1:18Hi, everyone. We've met before. I'm Lindsay's friend from improv comedy class.
- 1:22I hosted the show earlier this month. I used to be a radio journalist,
- 1:26and I excel at peppy earnestness.
- 1:29In real news, a recent study found that one in four NFL players will be diagnosed with CTE.
- 1:35This is a degenerative brain disease caused by repeated hits to the head.
- 1:40It can lead to memory loss, confusion, and mood swings, and it's thought to
- 1:43be a contributing factor to the deaths of a number of NFL players,
- 1:47including the tragic suicide of the linebacker Junior Seau, among others.
- 1:52No surprises here, those hits to the head add up in a bad way.
- 1:56It's a crazy stat that 25% of players are affected.
- 2:01And most NFL players quoted in recent articles on this do understand the dangers.
- 2:07Also, a lot of fans recognize it.
- 2:09And yet, the game goes on, the money keeps flowing.
- 2:13I feel like this is the epitome of America.
- 2:17I also feel... Go Packers!
- 2:20In other news, recovery is ongoing from floods in Nepal and Tibet.
- 2:25279 hydropower workers trapped in tunnels have been rescued,
- 2:29but an estimated 933 remain trapped.
- 2:33The flooding was caused by a glacier shearing off a mountain face.
- 2:36This released a torrent of water that tore through villages.
- 2:40In total, an estimated 2,500 people are missing, and that number is expected to climb.
- 2:46Guys, flashback to my last episode. Climate change is real.
- 2:51In lighter news, Curacao claimed the 2026 Little League World Series title over the weekend.
- 2:57They defeated Nevada 11-2.
- 3:00It's the second title for this small Caribbean island. Their first was in 2004,
- 3:04and they've also had four runner-up finishes.
- 3:07For those of you who are not familiar with the Little League World Series,
- 3:09they are teams of 10, 11, and 12-year-olds, and it's not just boys. Girls also play.
- 3:15A player from Alabama this year named Kinley Rasmus made history as a pitcher.
- 3:20She had 14 strikeouts and five hits over the course of the two-week tournament.
- 3:25In Kate Life, well, our class improv show was this past week,
- 3:30and the highlight for me was my pal Corbin surprising me by showing up in the audience for our debut.
- 3:36I mean, I had sent him the show information, so maybe I shouldn't have been
- 3:39so surprised, but he did come all the way from his home in England.
- 3:44I pretty much bowled him over when I saw him after the show,
- 3:47just like, yeah, so crazy that he was there.
- 3:50He did come on a work trip, but I'm going to pretend that it was just for me.
- 3:54Our thing of the week this week is Dolly Parton tributes.
- 3:57There have been some good ones. Jack White played a cover of Jolene at a concert in London.
- 4:03Also in London, the Buckingham Palace guards played 9 to 5.
- 4:08And on Jinmi Kimmel Live, Jelly Roll, who is guest hosting, described Dolly
- 4:14as, quote, the last American that everyone liked.
- 4:17Cooking tip of the day. So, okay, the last episode that I hosted,
- 4:23I talked about a recipe that's been handed down through the generations in my
- 4:27family, mostly by my mother.
- 4:29And it's a recipe for making scrambled eggs in the microwave,
- 4:31which was an innovation born out of necessity because we went through a bunch
- 4:35of renovations and house moves when I was a kid.
- 4:39And that just ended up being how we made our eggs sometimes.
- 4:43So I was actually, my parents listened to my episode a couple weeks ago,
- 4:47which was very nice of them. And I was talking to them while I was actually
- 4:50also making scrambled eggs for my lunch the next day at work.
- 4:54I was doing it on the stove because I'm an adult and they are better that way.
- 4:57But anyway, my mom was like, you're going to take cold scrambled eggs to work
- 5:03and heat them up in the microwave? That is disgusting. Your colleagues are going to be appalled by you.
- 5:08Why don't you instead make your eggs in the microwave at work so they're fresh?
- 5:14Which I guess would necessitate my bringing raw eggs on the subway to the office.
- 5:21I did survey my colleagues about the different ways in which I could have eggs
- 5:27for lunch at work, whether I should make them at home and heat them up or bring
- 5:31raw eggs and make them in the office at work.
- 5:33And they universally agreed that I should make my eggs at home and bring them
- 5:38to the office and heat them up and they would not be offended by that. So thank you, mom.
- 5:42As always, your feedback on my life. Very much appreciated, but yeah, no thank you.
- 5:49Feedback, comments, questions, a nice Jewish boy looking for a date?
