Transcript
- 0:02Speaker 1: Life audio.
- 0:07Speaker 2: Today, I'll talk about that. John wonders if trees are
- 0:10Speaker 2: weaker in the South and prepares for Y two K
- 0:12Speaker 2: with his dad. Meanwhile, I ponder getting a taser and thin.
- 0:16Speaker 2: Groucho Marx would have loved the new six to seven craze.
- 0:19Speaker 2: Lots of conversation about the sins that upset humans the
- 0:21Speaker 2: most and whether they're the ones God is focused on.
- 0:24Speaker 2: Today's episode is not sponsored by spaghetti Sauce staining your
- 0:27Speaker 2: tupperware containers since nineteen forty six, but first award from
- 0:31Speaker 2: our actual sponsor.
- 0:41Speaker 1: Well, we hope you're safe out there in the winter storms.
- 0:43Speaker 1: But Johnny, we're in here and talk about that, ready
- 0:46Speaker 1: to bring the relief people need. Have they been stuck
- 0:49Speaker 1: indoors for a.
- 0:50Speaker 2: Like real relief?
- 0:51Speaker 1: No?
- 0:52Speaker 2: Like a lineman could? I think it's interesting that you
- 0:55Speaker 2: have linemen who are like saving your electricity and linemen
- 0:58Speaker 2: who are like football players who tech the quarterback.
- 1:00Speaker 1: I've never heard of the person doing the electrical lines
- 1:04Speaker 1: referred to as a lineman.
- 1:05Speaker 2: Yeah, lineman, Like there's a big lineman. All the linemen
- 1:07Speaker 2: are working like eighteen hour shifts now and they're just
- 1:11Speaker 2: having a sandwich in their truck and they get back
- 1:13Speaker 2: out there and they do more because all these trees
- 1:15Speaker 2: have iced over and they fell over on the power lines.
- 1:17Speaker 1: I had someone today ask me they their husband was
- 1:21Speaker 1: from Michigan, and she was so mad and she was like,
- 1:25Speaker 1: are all the trees down here just weaker?
- 1:28Speaker 2: Huh?
- 1:28Speaker 1: Like everyone's trees in the south are just bent over,
- 1:31Speaker 1: and like we don't remember the trees in mad At
- 1:34Speaker 1: the tree lost electricity for like four days. She has
- 1:37Speaker 1: little kids. She's like, what is wrong with y'all's trees?
- 1:40Speaker 1: Why can't the trees just be just not be so
- 1:45Speaker 1: exploding around here?
- 1:46Speaker 2: If I put a thousand pounds of ice on your back,
- 1:49Speaker 2: I bet you'd huddle over.
- 1:50Speaker 1: Well, but there's ice all up north. Yeah, we need
- 1:52Speaker 1: to ask our northern This is different.
- 1:54Speaker 2: Though maybe it is true like that the trees had
- 1:56Speaker 2: it too good for too long. These trees aren't ready
- 1:59Speaker 2: for nothing.
- 2:00Speaker 1: Yeah exactly, they're just yeah little whimps.
- 2:03Speaker 2: And part of it's the wind because the weight and
- 2:06Speaker 2: then the wind comes through and it just does the
- 2:08Speaker 2: funnel man.
- 2:10Speaker 1: Isn't that just like some of y'all are ready for.
- 2:12Speaker 2: The ice, but you ain't ready for the wind.
- 2:14Speaker 1: You built your house on ice instead of the rock. Wait,
- 2:18Speaker 1: hold on the rock was icy? Yes, so you dug
- 2:21Speaker 1: in the sand. I don't know what had happened. Was
- 2:24Speaker 1: is that freezing rain coated every branch? I will say this,
- 2:27Speaker 1: it looks like the first Narnia movie.
- 2:31Speaker 2: It is crazy pretty, like when the sun shines right
- 2:33Speaker 2: through it, it's like diamonds in the trees.
- 2:35Speaker 1: And every branch is like its own little work of
- 2:37Speaker 1: art discovered.
- 2:38Speaker 2: And then you pan back and that shiny branch is
- 2:41Speaker 2: laying across the power line and there's a family huddled
- 2:43Speaker 2: in with no right inside. But the first the first scene,
- 2:47Speaker 2: very pretty, very pretty. Yeah, well you had your j
- 2:51Speaker 2: I was so excited for you because I was like,
- 2:52Speaker 2: John's going to get to use this generator. He gets
- 2:54Speaker 2: to be a real man. And then your power came
- 2:57Speaker 2: on all too soon.
- 2:58Speaker 1: I used it for about i'd say fifteen hours.
- 3:03Speaker 2: Oh you didn't even get a full day out of it.
- 3:05Speaker 1: It went off. It went out at like seven am. Yeah,
- 3:08Speaker 1: and yeah, I had it ready.
- 3:09Speaker 2: You were like so glad because you bought it like
- 3:11Speaker 2: four days before, right, and you were like it's coming
- 3:14Speaker 2: this It took some I gave you a little advice.
- 3:16Speaker 2: I said, don't do that, don't let this happen again.
- 3:17Speaker 2: They go spend the money and get one, and then
- 3:19Speaker 2: the next you sent me a photo later that you
- 3:21Speaker 2: were like, I did it.
- 3:22Speaker 1: I did?
- 3:22Speaker 2: It was like whatever, A thousand bucks or something more?
- 3:25Speaker 2: What'd you spend?
- 3:26Speaker 1: I don't want to say why. It was more expensive
- 3:28Speaker 1: than I thought it was. Should have been the deal.
- 3:30Speaker 1: I got a harbor freight take it back. So well, no, no,
- 3:34Speaker 1: come on, you wouldn't.
- 3:35Speaker 2: Do that, that's true, But looking for general, you're gonna
- 3:38Speaker 2: need it again.
- 3:39Speaker 1: I got the inverter, which is quieter and safer than
- 3:42Speaker 1: the generator.
- 3:43Speaker 2: Because it doesn't there's something about putting too much like
- 3:46Speaker 2: backflow into the line or something. It's dangerous for the linemen. Yeah,
- 3:49Speaker 2: because they talk about it. Yeah, people, if everybody's using generators,
- 3:53Speaker 2: are something you're supposed to do to keep it from
- 3:55Speaker 2: sending a surge into the I wish.
- 3:58Speaker 1: I knew more about electricity, just say things. Although this
- 4:01Speaker 1: time I did have to go through now and write
- 4:04Speaker 1: down all the wattage from each of the things I
- 4:06Speaker 1: was using to make sure it didn't pass the load.
- 4:09Speaker 1: So that was kind of fun.
- 4:11Speaker 2: Something y'all need to share the load over here. By
- 4:13Speaker 2: the way, John, if you'd like to share the load
- 4:15Speaker 2: on the show and become a patron, how would you
- 4:17Speaker 2: do that?
- 4:17Speaker 1: You got to talk about that podcast dot com.
- 4:19Speaker 2: Click on the upright hand link. You get add free
- 4:21Speaker 2: content with content content. And we all love our patrons.
- 4:26Speaker 2: And thanks for being a supporter of the show. And
- 4:29Speaker 2: if you're just a listener, that's fine too. That's a
- 4:30Speaker 2: support in its own way. Yeah, if you want to
- 4:32Speaker 2: send us a note, send an email to a Hello
- 4:34Speaker 2: at talk about that podcast dot com.
- 4:36Speaker 1: Yeah, we love getting notes.
- 4:38Speaker 2: We love a good note.
- 4:39Speaker 1: We read them quite often, we do.
- 4:42Speaker 2: People have been nice.
- 4:44Speaker 1: Yeah, it was on and I had I got one
- 4:46Speaker 1: of those parabolic heaters. Okay, it looks like a basically
- 4:51Speaker 1: it looks like a fan. Yeah, it's a metal plate.
- 4:54Speaker 1: But it doesn't blow.
- 4:54Speaker 2: Oh did it oscillate at all?
- 4:56Speaker 1: It does oscillate. Yeah, an oscillating parabolic heater.
- 5:00Speaker 2: I think, big, like satellite dish thing. Yeah, and it
- 5:03Speaker 2: is bright, uh huh.
- 5:04Speaker 1: And so I put that up in my mom's room
- 5:06Speaker 1: and then I put a little fan in front of
- 5:07Speaker 1: it because it did need some air circulation to get
- 5:10Speaker 1: the heat out there. She was great up there. Yeah,
- 5:12Speaker 1: but I have wires and I still, by the way,
- 5:14Speaker 1: I'm not taken it down. I have cords gaff taped
- 5:17Speaker 1: all over the floor safely so they're not tripping hazards. Okay,
- 5:21Speaker 1: across the kitchen, across wherever, and they're run through the
- 5:23Speaker 1: house now. So if it happens again, because it's still
- 5:25Speaker 1: not above freezing right, so if something happens again, I'm ready.
- 5:29Speaker 1: I mean, the generator is still out there.
- 5:31Speaker 2: Our buddy, our buddy, Brian Bates, lives in I think
- 5:35Speaker 2: Belle Mead, West Nashville, and he hasn't been I didn't
- 5:39Speaker 2: know he's been without power for four days. So I
- 5:42Speaker 2: see a video from him this morning. He's just like, yeah,
- 5:44Speaker 2: we're still without power. We've been in a hotel and
- 5:46Speaker 2: now we're moving into Nate's house. So he's moved over
- 5:48Speaker 2: to Neibourgainst. He's so like he's staying with Nate and
- 5:53Speaker 2: which that's got to be fun. I think Nate's not there.
- 5:54Speaker 2: Nate's in La so he's basically staying and Nate has
- 5:57Speaker 2: a guest out, so I think he might be the
- 5:58Speaker 2: Nate's guest house. But all that said, I was like,
- 6:01Speaker 2: you could have stayed my house has been empty. Yeah,
- 6:03Speaker 2: he could have just moved into but I don't know
- 6:05Speaker 2: if you can get to leven and he couldn't have
- 6:06Speaker 2: got to all the way to eleven from where he's at.
- 6:07Speaker 2: But that's it was.
- 6:09Speaker 1: It was sketchy, by the way, it still kind of skied.
- 6:11Speaker 1: They just called school for tomorrow.
- 6:12Speaker 2: Yeah, so it doesn't take much though, well, because I mean,
- 6:15Speaker 2: you have people in far flung areas. You have to
- 6:17Speaker 2: be able to get everybody in. So if everybody's not
- 6:18Speaker 2: able to make it, you can't just say we're in. Yeah,
- 6:22Speaker 2: you gotta wait till it's totally clear. We call church
- 6:24Speaker 2: tonight for the kids. Okay, So here, I didn't know
- 6:28Speaker 2: you all had youth groups still on Wednesdays.
- 6:30Speaker 1: When else would you have it.
- 6:31Speaker 2: I don't know. Some peopleink the rules of the university changed.
- 6:33Speaker 2: We did Sunday Night forever. When you were a youth pastor.
- 6:36Speaker 2: Did you do Sunday Night in Alcoa? Yeah, but that
- 6:39Speaker 2: was were you a youth pastor then.
- 6:40Speaker 1: It was like twenty seven years ago.
- 6:42Speaker 2: Well, what's what's different?
- 6:45Speaker 1: A lot's changed in your philosophy.
- 6:47Speaker 2: The days of the week.
- 6:48Speaker 1: I do want I do think about how I would
- 6:50Speaker 1: do it differently now, like one I would know I.
- 6:53Speaker 2: Want, you just wouldn't do it.
- 6:55Speaker 1: What do you do?
- 6:55Speaker 2: Would you get into youth ministry if you had to
- 6:57Speaker 2: do it right now?
- 6:58Speaker 1: No? Yeah, I mean it had to be scared, Yeah,
- 7:01Speaker 1: because it's a I don't know, there is that feeling
- 7:04Speaker 1: of I would love to create, and that's what our
- 7:07Speaker 1: youth pastors do so well. I would love to create
- 7:09Speaker 1: a place of belonging for kids right now, because I
- 7:11Speaker 1: know that's what they're missing. They always have, sure, but
- 7:14Speaker 1: kids feel like they belong less now than they ever
- 7:17Speaker 1: have before because the isolation factor of social media and
- 7:21Speaker 1: the lack of interpersonal communication skills because of it, so
- 7:25Speaker 1: it's only used to communicating online. Yeah, so creating that
- 7:29Speaker 1: place would be fun.
- 7:31Speaker 2: I was thinking today about six seven, that whole phenomenon
- 7:34Speaker 2: about how kids are like waiting for someone to accidentally
- 7:37Speaker 2: say six to seven so they can and freak out
- 7:39Speaker 2: and nobody knows what it means, including them, And I
- 7:42Speaker 2: was thinking, I grew up I've talked about on the pod,
- 7:45Speaker 2: but I grew up watching niked Knight and Nick at
- 7:48Speaker 2: Night back then was old shows. They only had rights
- 7:50Speaker 2: to like they had some children shows, you know, for
- 7:52Speaker 2: teenagers or thirteen year olds, fourteen year olds, but then
- 7:55Speaker 2: they had like no programming for like after midnight. It
- 7:59Speaker 2: was just go dark. And so they put from like
- 8:02Speaker 2: midnight to like ten and ten am. They would put
- 8:04Speaker 2: on old properties that they had bought, like George Burns,
- 8:08Speaker 2: Gracie Allen, the Jack Benny Show. And one of the
- 8:11Speaker 2: shows they did was You Bet Your Life, which was
- 8:13Speaker 2: Gratcho Marx and Graucho Marx that it was like a
- 8:16Speaker 2: game show and they'd have people on this is the
- 8:18Speaker 2: nineteen forties, I think, And so I'm watching it. I'm
- 8:21Speaker 2: a fourteen year old watching these black on maybe eleven
- 8:24Speaker 2: or twelve, watching these black on white shows with these
- 8:26Speaker 2: old guys in suits making like the oldest jokes. But
- 8:29Speaker 2: it really informed my sense of comedy. But one of
- 8:31Speaker 2: the things I thought about six seven was Graucho Marx
- 8:34Speaker 2: would have the word of the day that if somebody
- 8:36Speaker 2: accidentally said it this bird, well he would tell the
- 8:38Speaker 2: audience beforehand, this little bird would come down from the
- 8:40Speaker 2: ceiling on like a puppet bird, and he would have
- 8:43Speaker 2: the word of the day would be like tomatoes or whatever,
- 8:45Speaker 2: and then he would would go back to the rafters.
- 8:47Speaker 2: And then if somebody accidentally said tomatoes or said it
- 8:50Speaker 2: in just one of their interviews or whatever or in
- 8:52Speaker 2: their answer or whatever, the burden the rumin it would
- 8:54Speaker 2: come down and people and people would freak out and
- 8:57Speaker 2: I think the person would win money or I don't
- 8:59Speaker 2: know how it work, but I think six seven is
- 9:01Speaker 2: the word of the day. It's a it's a it's
- 9:03Speaker 2: a little easter egg. Groucho Marx would be proud.
- 9:06Speaker 1: Just wrote about in the book with a Guy, because
- 9:08Speaker 1: he talks about it. It's a it is a like
- 9:11Speaker 1: culture belonging thing for that generation that they're trying to
- 9:14Speaker 1: have something that the older generation can't.
- 9:16Speaker 2: Yeah, and the minute we the reason it's starting to
- 9:18Speaker 2: die is older people are doing it and it becomes
- 9:21Speaker 2: immediately uncool. You're doing it wrong.
- 9:24Speaker 1: Yeah. No, I don't do the six seventh thing. Yeah,
- 9:28Speaker 1: I just I just don't just not go. I don't
- 9:30Speaker 1: try to play uh huh. Now I'll listen to the
- 9:32Speaker 1: same music with her. I'll listen to her music.
- 9:35Speaker 2: Well, part of that's like you just want to know
- 9:36Speaker 2: if it's awful, right, You want to know if it
- 9:38Speaker 2: is something you know what I mean.
- 9:41Speaker 1: I never made a big deal about music. I'm just like,
- 9:44Speaker 1: I mean, because everything out there is sexual, and you know,
- 9:47Speaker 1: I'm just like, I'll say, wow, that was really sexual man,
- 9:54Speaker 1: that it had a great payh that's the point. Yeah,
- 9:57Speaker 1: that's why I like it. She was reading to me
- 10:01Speaker 1: the apology from Kanye West. Have you read the apology?
- 10:09Speaker 2: No? And I knew that he's kind of off the
- 10:11Speaker 2: rails now with the Nazism and the.
- 10:14Speaker 1: Well that's the thing. She was like, she really wanted
- 10:16Speaker 1: me to hear it. Yeah, and I really didn't want to.
- 10:18Speaker 2: Hear She's a Kanye person.
- 10:19Speaker 1: No, but she's just fascinating. It's just in the news
- 10:22Speaker 1: or in their world in the streams. Yeah, And I
- 10:24Speaker 1: was just like, she was like, yeah, he put out
- 10:26Speaker 1: he put out an apology. I was like, well, that's great.
- 10:28Speaker 1: She was like, it's right here, I have it right here,
- 10:31Speaker 1: and I go, that's awesome.
- 10:33Speaker 2: She's like his press secretary now.
- 10:35Speaker 1: She kept she's just well, she just wants to know
- 10:37Speaker 1: what I would think about it. Uh huh. But I
- 10:38Speaker 1: was actually fascinated. My wife speculates that probably not only
- 10:43Speaker 1: did some of their press people write it, but also
- 10:45Speaker 1: ai ai ye, but.
- 10:47Speaker 2: He did it more sincere sinned, and then like it
- 10:50Speaker 2: keeps adapting it.
- 10:52Speaker 1: He did I will say when I really you know,
- 10:55Speaker 1: it's like, yeah, please read it to me. I'd love
- 10:57Speaker 1: to hear it. When I finally did, the thoughts on
- 11:01Speaker 1: mental health and bipolar disorder were really fascinating, and he
- 11:05Speaker 1: totally owned it. He was just like, the thing he
- 11:07Speaker 1: said was when you're in a manic state, you don't
- 11:12Speaker 1: know that you're in a manic state, and so everything
- 11:15Speaker 1: you're saying feels right and real to you, and you think,
- 11:19Speaker 1: what is wrong with everybody else? And the more they
- 11:22Speaker 1: tell you something's wrong with you, the less inclined you
- 11:25Speaker 1: are to believe.
- 11:25Speaker 2: It right, because you get paranoid that they're just trying
- 11:27Speaker 2: to control you or whatever.
- 11:28Speaker 1: So he goes into the Hitler stuff and the other things,
- 11:30Speaker 1: and he's like, I don't you know. He apologized to
- 11:33Speaker 1: Jewish people and apologies like, I don't you know, I
- 11:36Speaker 1: can't believe I sold Schwashtika t shirts and everything like,
- 11:40Speaker 1: but I'm getting treated now.
- 11:41Speaker 2: In fact that they sold even scar the.
- 11:44Speaker 1: Scary part, people who don't have bipolar disorder bought them.
- 11:48Speaker 1: That's the scary part of influence, I think.
- 11:51Speaker 2: But hey, it's okay. This guy said it's okay. Finally, Well,
- 11:55Speaker 2: and that's.
- 11:55Speaker 1: The that's sort of like the that's why I didn't
- 11:59Speaker 1: want to hear it in some way. It's just like
- 12:00Speaker 1: I don't want to give energy to things. But then
- 12:04Speaker 1: I had that thought of like, what do we really
- 12:06Speaker 1: want from people?
- 12:07Speaker 2: Right?
- 12:07Speaker 1: We want them to repent, we want them to say
- 12:09Speaker 1: they were wrong, And here's a guy trying to say
- 12:10Speaker 1: is wrong. So yeah, I do think.
- 12:12Speaker 2: That that's true. Like, if somebody's into extremism, which we
- 12:14Speaker 2: have a lot of people in the country, they're into
- 12:16Speaker 2: extremism right now, and you give them zero off ramp
- 12:19Speaker 2: to a normal life, you're just driving them further into
- 12:21Speaker 2: the extremism. Right. If you just like no, you're forever
- 12:24Speaker 2: dead to me because of this belief, it's like, well
- 12:27Speaker 2: now they just are going to be more deeply entrenched. Right.
- 12:30Speaker 1: It's one of those Andrew's really good at that. In it,
- 12:34Speaker 1: he'll talk about how radical true Christianity really is because
- 12:38Speaker 1: it does always have right an off ramp to grace
- 12:42Speaker 1: or on ramp. I don't know what tramp we're doing
- 12:45Speaker 1: here on the metaphor. But but it's towards people that
- 12:49Speaker 1: none of we all have some fact that that's what
- 12:52Speaker 1: my quotes is about today a little bit. But we
- 12:53Speaker 1: all have somebody that we don't want to get grace.
- 12:58Speaker 2: I think I am not somebody for some people.
- 13:00Speaker 1: I think you're not somebody for me.
- 13:02Speaker 2: This's awkward. That's why I want you to have it
- 13:04Speaker 2: just not now, John, you know you to have that
- 13:08Speaker 2: a word from a few of our fine sponsors. Do
- 13:21Speaker 2: you like that segue?
- 13:22Speaker 1: That was a flawless You can really tell we've turned
- 13:24Speaker 1: into pros. Oh yeah, I mean it's only been three
- 13:27Speaker 1: hundred and ninety episodes.
- 13:29Speaker 2: Took this long figure it out?
- 13:31Speaker 1: Do you do you realize I can't think of many
- 13:34Speaker 1: things that have three hundred and ninety hours worth of content.
- 13:37Speaker 2: Too. Well, it's not been full hours as last few
- 13:39Speaker 2: we've we've kind of shaved it down to forty five ors,
- 13:42Speaker 2: maybe some couple of thirty eight ers. Okay, but yes,
- 13:45Speaker 2: it's a lot of time. It's a long time to talk.
- 13:47Speaker 1: It is. Do you ever wear we're going to run
- 13:49Speaker 1: of things to say?
- 13:51Speaker 2: I think it's all right.
- 13:53Speaker 1: I don't worry about repeating stories as much because sometimes
- 13:56Speaker 1: it's like I.
- 13:58Speaker 2: Learned that can they remember we told the story?
- 14:00Speaker 1: Being a pastor, I'm like, don't have the guys, if
- 14:02Speaker 1: you're if you're in ministry out there, Yeah, learn from
- 14:04Speaker 1: the old guy who's telling you that you don't have
- 14:08Speaker 1: to worry about repeating things all the time because they
- 14:10Speaker 1: don't remember remember everything you saw.
- 14:14Speaker 2: We believe you care, dear listener. Yeah, but but you
- 14:17Speaker 2: also give us grace because you're like, oh, I've heard this,
- 14:19Speaker 2: but I hope they tell it again. Maybe another little
- 14:21Speaker 2: detail will emerge.
- 14:22Speaker 1: By the way, if somebody asked about the parking lot Beanie, yeah,
- 14:26Speaker 1: the last that's right episode.
- 14:27Speaker 2: And you said you thought you had it with you,
- 14:28Speaker 2: but you didn't.
- 14:29Speaker 1: I have it right here.
- 14:29Speaker 2: Look at that right here. But parking lot Beanie lives
- 14:32Speaker 2: it got John's a poor person.
- 14:34Speaker 1: I left it somewhere the other day that panic. Yeah,
- 14:39Speaker 1: and I ran back in and it was gone, my baby,
- 14:44Speaker 1: that was my panic breathing. And I ran back in
- 14:47Speaker 1: and I couldn't find it. But the waitress had it
- 14:49Speaker 1: and she had been running out the door trying to
- 14:51Speaker 1: find me. Like, yeah, it was like it was like
- 14:54Speaker 1: a movie. It was like an old Tom Hanks Meg
- 14:56Speaker 1: Ryan movie. Yeah, anyway, I have the beanie still.
- 14:59Speaker 2: So, so you're buying a five thousand dollars generator, but
- 15:02Speaker 2: you need a trash being.
- 15:03Speaker 1: Five thousand dollars, it was fifty hundred dollars. Yeah, it
- 15:06Speaker 1: was way more than it was, like twelve hundred gators.
- 15:09Speaker 1: It's like to surprise you found one. Honestly, well, I
- 15:11Speaker 1: got there. People were there were guys like, give me
- 15:16Speaker 1: to me. There were guys like me hovering on the
- 15:19Speaker 1: on the.
- 15:20Speaker 2: Phone while they brought them.
- 15:21Speaker 1: Because we're all trying to go okay, because I'm doing all,
- 15:23Speaker 1: Me and Claude are having lots of conversations.
- 15:25Speaker 2: Okay, nobody wants to hear this. John, that's your conversation
- 15:28Speaker 2: with AI. What are you doing?
- 15:29Speaker 1: Because hey, Claude, how many watts does a refrigerator pull?
- 15:32Speaker 1: Or whatever? You know? And then I'm doing the math.
- 15:34Speaker 2: But you always say that Claude makes stuff up. You're
- 15:36Speaker 2: about to electricate yourself. Chat makes stuff up. You don't
- 15:39Speaker 2: think Claude Rock definitely makes stuff up. You don't think
- 15:41Speaker 2: Claude is being corrupted. Clode is the least of the evils.
- 15:45Speaker 2: Am I speaking? Am I speaking to Claude right now,
- 15:48Speaker 2: have you been assimilating into the borg.
- 15:51Speaker 1: Claude is more trainable. Claude would never lie up, but
- 15:53Speaker 1: never not a sponsor. It joins me about that time, though, Oh,
- 15:56Speaker 1: let's do it. It's my quarter of the week. It's
- 15:58Speaker 1: a segment we call. They talked about that. I'm going
- 16:13Speaker 1: Clive Staples. I don't even care Clive Staples. Lewis can't
- 16:16Speaker 1: beat it. He says. If anyone thinks that Christians regard
- 16:20Speaker 1: unchastity as the supreme vice, he is quite wrong. The
- 16:25Speaker 1: sins of the flesh are bad, but they are the
- 16:28Speaker 1: least bad of all sins. All the worst pleasures are
- 16:32Speaker 1: purely spiritual, the pleasure of putting other people in the wrong,
- 16:36Speaker 1: of bossing and patronizing, and spoiling sport and backbiting, the
- 16:40Speaker 1: pleasures of power of hatred. For there are two things
- 16:43Speaker 1: inside me competing with the human self which I must
- 16:46Speaker 1: try to become. They are the animal self and the
- 16:49Speaker 1: diabolical self. The diabolical self is the worst of the two.
- 16:53Speaker 1: That is why a cold, self righteous prig who goes
- 16:56Speaker 1: regularly to church may be far nearer to Hell than
- 16:59Speaker 1: a prostitute. But of course it is better to be neither.
- 17:03Speaker 2: Wow, that's good. I talked about that before. When I
- 17:06Speaker 2: do churches on Sunday, I say that I think that
- 17:07Speaker 2: self righteousness is a bigger problem in the church and
- 17:10Speaker 2: unrighteousness because unrighteous people like at least know they need
- 17:14Speaker 2: a savior. You can't reach a self righteous person. They
- 17:17Speaker 2: don't know they need the life preserver. They're like, I'm
- 17:19Speaker 2: good and they're drowning.
- 17:20Speaker 1: Well, I mean, people always ask me in ministry, what's
- 17:23Speaker 1: the unforgivable sin? Right? What does it mean to blasting
- 17:25Speaker 1: the Holy Spirit?
- 17:26Speaker 2: Almost they want to know who's in and who's out, Like,
- 17:28Speaker 2: that's the thing we don't know what that circles and
- 17:29Speaker 2: make sure we're on the inside.
- 17:30Speaker 1: Well, but most people, I always to me, blastering the
- 17:34Speaker 1: Holy Spirit is not just speaking against the Holy Spirit.
- 17:37Speaker 1: I think there's two things. I think one it's attributing
- 17:41Speaker 1: the work of God to the enemy. One saying I'm
- 17:46Speaker 1: not even sure that's what blasting the Holy Spirit means.
- 17:48Speaker 1: I think that's one way to speak really badly against you.
- 17:51Speaker 1: You're calling the things of God evil, right, You're well,
- 17:54Speaker 1: I mean you're saying kindness is bad and evil. Right,
- 17:59Speaker 1: You're saying empathy is bad and evil. I'm not calling
- 18:02Speaker 1: that blasphemy, but.
- 18:05Speaker 2: But it's in the ballpark in the spirit.
- 18:07Speaker 1: It's completely against anything scriptural, you know. But I think
- 18:11Speaker 1: the other thing, though, the more practical side of that,
- 18:15Speaker 1: is the only way to not receive grace is to
- 18:19Speaker 1: not receive grace, meaning you you never come around the
- 18:24Speaker 1: place rejection of it. Right, Yeah, you say, I don't.
- 18:28Speaker 1: I don't need that, I don't want that. That's not
- 18:30Speaker 1: for me. And so I think, like this idea, I mean,
- 18:33Speaker 1: this is pretty I think scandalous what he's saying.
- 18:39Speaker 2: Yeah, and it's pretty crazy to say it when he
- 18:40Speaker 2: said it too, when everybody was moralizing and even more
- 18:44Speaker 2: so than than now, even like the bad idea of
- 18:47Speaker 2: like moralizing it and judgmentalism of like prostitution, like he
- 18:52Speaker 2: mentions prostitution, he meances, you know, sinse of the flesh.
- 18:56Speaker 2: And he was saying, like most of the worst ones
- 18:58Speaker 2: are like thinking that you're better than another person.
- 19:02Speaker 1: Or well, it's like I always tell my friends in
- 19:05Speaker 1: recovery who were drug addicts or whatever. When I was
- 19:08Speaker 1: going through was like, the things that you are recovering
- 19:11Speaker 1: from are not even listed in the Bible, I mean,
- 19:14Speaker 1: alcoholism would have been, but we didn't have heroin or
- 19:18Speaker 1: whatever at this point the principles there, I get it right,
- 19:21Speaker 1: but it's not mentioned. But the things I'm in recovery for,
- 19:24Speaker 1: like three or four of them are on the list
- 19:26Speaker 1: of things that God hates, my pride, the suspicious eyes,
- 19:31Speaker 1: the way I see the world. I mean, I mean,
- 19:33Speaker 1: you know one of the things that I came out
- 19:35Speaker 1: of recovery with. They said, worry is not responsibility, worry
- 19:41Speaker 1: is sin. We start thinking about just worrying being sinned,
- 19:44Speaker 1: but in the sense of again you have to identify
- 19:47Speaker 1: or not redefine sin. But most people think of sin
- 19:50Speaker 1: as the stuff that C. S. Lewis just talked about, right, Oh,
- 19:54Speaker 1: sin is when you, you know, consciously make this choice
- 19:57Speaker 1: to do this thing, as opposed to the condition of
- 20:00Speaker 1: sin right in the fallenness of the world being something
- 20:03Speaker 1: that you really can't escape from. You wake up in
- 20:07Speaker 1: a cloud every day. You're you're in the cloud, and
- 20:12Speaker 1: you're breathing in the things that are in that cloud.
- 20:15Speaker 1: And so that's why we need a savior constantly, not
- 20:19Speaker 1: just to save us from this committed, intentional thing, but
- 20:24Speaker 1: also the state of it, And I think when sin
- 20:28Speaker 1: gets boiled down to just the things we do and
- 20:31Speaker 1: not the place that we live, the fallenness around us.
- 20:35Speaker 1: And I'm not I'm not, you know, dismissing the things
- 20:38Speaker 1: that we do or saying those things don't matter. I'm
- 20:40Speaker 1: just saying, you can go all day today and not
- 20:43Speaker 1: do any of those things that you're worried about doing
- 20:46Speaker 1: and still not be free from sin, because it's a
- 20:49Speaker 1: much bigger problem than just your choices, or we wouldn't
- 20:52Speaker 1: have needed the Savior. Can You can't get it through commandments,
- 20:54Speaker 1: like you're obeying everything.
- 20:56Speaker 2: Yeah, we were talking on the road this weekend. One
- 20:58Speaker 2: of the other comics is looking buy like a taser
- 21:00Speaker 2: for his wife. They live in New York City, and
- 21:02Speaker 2: he's like, I'm trying to buy a handheld taser and
- 21:03Speaker 2: then he goes, well, you got to get close to
- 21:06Speaker 2: somebody to do that, and you don't want to be close,
- 21:07Speaker 2: that's the idea. So and you got to remember that
- 21:09Speaker 2: you have it. You got to remember how to use
- 21:10Speaker 2: it so you don't actually taze yourself. Like it's a lot.
- 21:13Speaker 2: He was like, I would tell her to get pepper
- 21:15Speaker 2: spray too, And then he started talking about pepper spray
- 21:18Speaker 2: as like, but you don't you don't want to ever
- 21:20Speaker 2: use it in a confined area like a subway car,
- 21:22Speaker 2: because you've pepper sprayed everybody, Like even if you hit
- 21:25Speaker 2: your mark, it consumes the entire area. Now you if
- 21:28Speaker 2: you're in an elevator. So it's like, I think that's
- 21:30Speaker 2: what happens. Sometimes we think we're doing like we're prescribing justice,
- 21:34Speaker 2: we're going to like deliver it, but we realize that,
- 21:37Speaker 2: like we've changed the entire area. You got to know
- 21:39Speaker 2: you're doing the right thing. You've now changed the room
- 21:43Speaker 2: with this thing that you may have missed the mark
- 21:44Speaker 2: on or whatever. It's like, I don't know. It just
- 21:47Speaker 2: made me think. And also it made me think, do
- 21:48Speaker 2: I need to get a taser? Like that's the other thing.
- 21:50Speaker 2: It made me think, do I need a taser? Now?
- 21:52Speaker 1: Well, I mean I think it's a By the way,
- 21:54Speaker 1: my wife showed me this video and it was from
- 21:59Speaker 1: like a a middle school basketball game. I think, yeah,
- 22:04Speaker 1: And there's these two guys calling the game somewhere in
- 22:08Speaker 1: the South, and so they're they're on the radio or
- 22:11Speaker 1: the TV or the YouTube channel or whatever. They're calling
- 22:13Speaker 1: the game and oh yeah, yeah, yeah, have you seen this?
- 22:16Speaker 2: And he's so calm too, and.
- 22:17Speaker 1: They're like they know all the people because it's a
- 22:19Speaker 1: small town or whatever. Middle school, yeah, and so they
- 22:22Speaker 1: know them and they're they're calling and like the police
- 22:24Speaker 1: are there, the whole deal, and I think, I'm sorry, honey,
- 22:28Speaker 1: you told me the story, but it was something the
- 22:31Speaker 1: effect to the effect of that one of the moms
- 22:35Speaker 1: went out did something and got pushed by one of
- 22:37Speaker 1: the coaches or something, and so then the dad comes
- 22:39Speaker 1: out of the stands because now they're hurting the kid
- 22:42Speaker 1: that the mom came to help, and now they're pushing
- 22:44Speaker 1: the mom, and.
- 22:45Speaker 2: He The first part of the video is just kids
- 22:47Speaker 2: falling into frame and then everything starts happening, So you
- 22:50Speaker 2: don't really know what what set it all off. You
- 22:53Speaker 2: just know that like, now it's chaos, and the guy
- 22:54Speaker 2: goes this game is over.
- 22:55Speaker 1: They kept saying, and then they were like, what's a
- 23:00Speaker 1: guy's name?
- 23:01Speaker 2: Ryan?
- 23:02Speaker 1: Ryan has got tased out of tazed Ryan, this game's over.
- 23:05Speaker 2: But he says it's so calm, like, yeah, foul on
- 23:09Speaker 2: the play.
- 23:09Speaker 1: I just tased, right, I just I think tasing well
- 23:14Speaker 1: the go by the way Ryan went down like a
- 23:16Speaker 1: sack of dirt.
- 23:16Speaker 2: And the guy just kind of walked up to him
- 23:18Speaker 2: and did it. It was like I wanted to see what
- 23:19Speaker 2: did he swing on him? What happened that. He's like, nope,
- 23:21Speaker 2: you're going down like done. We did he say something?
- 23:24Speaker 1: It's crazy because again, you lose all control of your
- 23:26Speaker 1: limbs and everything else.
- 23:27Speaker 2: I think if you had a tas that's the hard
- 23:28Speaker 2: thing about like gun culture and taser culture. If there
- 23:31Speaker 2: is a taser culture, it's like once you have the thing,
- 23:35Speaker 2: you're saying it's to protect you, but then a male
- 23:38Speaker 2: brain starts being like you want it. It's like the generator.
- 23:41Speaker 2: Now you're almost looking for excuse to use it. Yeah,
- 23:44Speaker 2: you know, you're like part of It's like I'm protecting
- 23:47Speaker 2: myself from this horrible thing. But also you start having
- 23:50Speaker 2: these weird like again, I'm not a gun guy, so
- 23:52Speaker 2: people are gonna shout chop, try to clap me down.
- 23:55Speaker 2: But I know a lot of gun guys that their
- 23:57Speaker 2: fantasy is being able to use this gun. No, I
- 24:00Speaker 2: mean the fantasy is like something will happen. I'll be
- 24:03Speaker 2: in burger king somebody. I'll come and try to rob
- 24:05Speaker 2: the place. I'll save the day. You go, he just
- 24:08Speaker 2: order your burger, dude, Like, yeah, and again, I'm glad
- 24:11Speaker 2: for those people if it does happen. Okay, I'm glad.
- 24:13Speaker 2: There's a lot of things that have been stopped by
- 24:15Speaker 2: a good guy with a gun. I get all that.
- 24:17Speaker 2: But it's like, I've known a lot of people that
- 24:18Speaker 2: should not have guns, and they almost have like a fantasy.
- 24:21Speaker 2: So I think that's what happenss Taser guy was like,
- 24:24Speaker 2: this is my time, this is my time.
- 24:26Speaker 1: No, you know, I think one of the things, because
- 24:28Speaker 1: you know, I have a handgun permit, yeah, and all
- 24:30Speaker 1: the all the things. I think one of the questions.
- 24:32Speaker 2: You took training and stuff. It wasn't just like after
- 24:34Speaker 2: the new law where everybody can have one in tennis.
- 24:36Speaker 1: That's correct. I already had it and I keep renewing it.
- 24:38Speaker 1: Mine's lifetime, though. Oh well, I think one of the questions,
- 24:42Speaker 1: even when your vision goes and your mind goes, you're
- 24:44Speaker 1: gonna be a like, look, anybody can any But I
- 24:49Speaker 1: think that one of the questions you should have to
- 24:51Speaker 1: answer is do you ever want to use this firearm?
- 24:54Speaker 1: Because anyone I know to your point, who is a
- 24:58Speaker 1: good guy with a gun hopes they know you ever
- 25:00Speaker 1: have to use it, right, They're not like, I can't
- 25:03Speaker 1: wait for this to go down.
- 25:04Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I don't know. Again, I sound ignorant because
- 25:07Speaker 2: I mean I'm not a guy who ever like went
- 25:09Speaker 2: out to go get a gun, and I'm just not
- 25:11Speaker 2: excited by guns. But and I get that we need
- 25:13Speaker 2: even hunting and stuff. I used to have like such
- 25:15Speaker 2: an issue with but now I realize, Okay, wow, if
- 25:17Speaker 2: we didn't have people at harvest these deer, they would
- 25:19Speaker 2: just be running around and getting you know, the traffic
- 25:22Speaker 2: would just be just be hitting deer every five minutes
- 25:25Speaker 2: because it's just too many. I get it. So I
- 25:27Speaker 2: get to some ideas are a little backwards. But also
- 25:29Speaker 2: I do know a lot of people who are like
- 25:31Speaker 2: they can't wait for their moment yeah to do this
- 25:33Speaker 2: weird you know, revenge fantasy on the world, or they
- 25:36Speaker 2: hope the apocalypse happened so they can be the only prepared.
- 25:38Speaker 1: One I do think about because we have to prepare
- 25:41Speaker 1: for things in a church world. Yeah, and we have
- 25:43Speaker 1: security measures and all those things in place, But there
- 25:46Speaker 1: is that thought if there was a gunman that I
- 25:50Speaker 1: think about all the other people who will suddenly become
- 25:53Speaker 1: gunmen to try to stop the gunman. Yeah, you know,
- 25:55Speaker 1: and how dangerous that that I'd rather have them Yeah
- 25:58Speaker 1: in that moment, but.
- 26:00Speaker 2: Net but they've never shot it before.
- 26:01Speaker 1: They well, and that's what they do teach you in
- 26:03Speaker 1: the classes. They're like, look, in a moment where you're
- 26:06Speaker 1: really having to use this, even trained officers and soldiers
- 26:10Speaker 1: and others with a handgun in particular, they hit their
- 26:14Speaker 1: mark like maybe ten percent in a moment where it's
- 26:18Speaker 1: like you're shaking, you you're you're basically in shock. And
- 26:23Speaker 1: so it's not like you just can't grab your faculties,
- 26:26Speaker 1: you know, and be able to say anyway, I.
- 26:29Speaker 2: Hate when people grab my faculties. John, I don't know
- 26:32Speaker 2: how this ended up doing a gun conversation from your quote,
- 26:34Speaker 2: but it's a good quote. I like the idea of
- 26:36Speaker 2: like what we think of as being like the deadliest
- 26:40Speaker 2: sins or whatever, like, don't we don't really know. It's
- 26:42Speaker 2: the thing. It's like we have to admit there's a
- 26:44Speaker 2: mystery to God and some of the things that really
- 26:47Speaker 2: tick us off and that we focus on when we
- 26:49Speaker 2: really like look in the scriptures, you go, man, I
- 26:52Speaker 2: wonder why God didn't focus on this as much as
- 26:53Speaker 2: we are, like we we kind of sometimes we feel
- 26:56Speaker 2: like we lose our way sometimes in the weeds.
- 26:58Speaker 1: And I think that the part for me is that
- 27:01Speaker 1: the thoughts in the language matter to God. Think about
- 27:05Speaker 1: what the Bible says in James about the person who
- 27:09Speaker 1: can control their tongue is in control of their entire life,
- 27:13Speaker 1: basically their whole body.
- 27:15Speaker 2: And I would say now would be that would extend
- 27:16Speaker 2: to keyboard. You control your keyboard. Now we don't talk
- 27:20Speaker 2: as much. There's things we say on the keyboard we
- 27:22Speaker 2: would never say in person. But it does damage even
- 27:24Speaker 2: more so. Yeah, it's forever.
- 27:26Speaker 1: But your communication, what comes out of you, That's what
- 27:28Speaker 1: even Jesus said, it's what comes I know people make
- 27:30Speaker 1: a joke with this, but it's what comes out of
- 27:32Speaker 1: a person that defiles them. What he's saying is is look,
- 27:36Speaker 1: what you actually say is the thing that matters, right,
- 27:41Speaker 1: And that's why I'll tell Sadie all the time. Like,
- 27:44Speaker 1: and I was counseling someone the other day and they
- 27:46Speaker 1: were really strugglings, like, well, you don't know all the
- 27:48Speaker 1: thoughts inside that I don't act on. And I was like,
- 27:51Speaker 1: that's great. Having temptations is not a sin. When you
- 27:56Speaker 1: don't act on them, then you one, that's what you're
- 27:58Speaker 1: supposed to do. Yes, should you struggle, should you try
- 28:02Speaker 1: not to think on those things, or whatever, But when
- 28:05Speaker 1: someone was doing something to you and you had horrible
- 28:08Speaker 1: thoughts and you chose something different, then what came out
- 28:11Speaker 1: of you was the right thing. Because of course we
- 28:13Speaker 1: all are tempted to do those things. But I always
- 28:15Speaker 1: tell you probably heard me say this before, but specifically
- 28:19Speaker 1: when it comes to like cuss words, which is a
- 28:20Speaker 1: big Christian thing. Right, I'm not pro cussword, okay.
- 28:25Speaker 2: But you're pro at it.
- 28:29Speaker 1: But the idea that we curse people by just using
- 28:31Speaker 1: colloquialisms or slaying right versus actually, as he says, bossing, patronizing,
- 28:38Speaker 1: putting people in the wrong, spoiling sport, backbiting, power, hatred.
- 28:42Speaker 1: You know, almost all those are worthless without words. They
- 28:45Speaker 1: wouldn't work without words.
- 28:47Speaker 2: Those Gossip is not delicious without words. No, the reason
- 28:51Speaker 2: gossip is so prevalent is because it's yummy, its morsel it.
- 28:58Speaker 2: I don't know, there's a way to paint yourself and
- 29:00Speaker 2: good light by tearing somebody down in private, and it
- 29:03Speaker 2: just it's uh, it's a problem. It's a problem for
- 29:05Speaker 2: a lot of people, and they think they're in the
- 29:07Speaker 2: right because they go, well, we look, this isn't real.
- 29:09Speaker 2: It is real.
- 29:10Speaker 1: Well, that's why I try to surround myself with friends
- 29:12Speaker 1: that because I really don't trust myself. And like, there's
- 29:15Speaker 1: some things I've been going through lately or talking about lately,
- 29:19Speaker 1: and you're on this list of people that I trust
- 29:22Speaker 1: that I've said to you today, if you see me
- 29:24Speaker 1: going down a path here that I shouldn't go down,
- 29:27Speaker 1: how would I know someone's got to You know, I
- 29:30Speaker 1: told my other buddy today, is like, dude, punch me
- 29:32Speaker 1: in the stomach a little bit, like someone wake me up,
- 29:34Speaker 1: because I'm doing the best I can, but my best
- 29:37Speaker 1: I've learned.
- 29:37Speaker 2: Yeah, if you put t shirts on your website that
- 29:42Speaker 2: have I'm going to call you out, like why is
- 29:45Speaker 2: John selling well teacher to say, what have schwastikas on it?
- 29:49Speaker 2: I'll be like, you know what, I think John's lost
- 29:51Speaker 2: his way.
- 29:51Speaker 1: That would be.
- 29:52Speaker 2: But then if you suh an apology, I'll read that
- 29:53Speaker 2: apology on the pod and then we'll try to get you.
- 29:55Speaker 1: Did he refund the money for the t shirt interesting.
- 29:57Speaker 1: Who knows?
- 29:59Speaker 2: It's like, well, it's I already spent. Really, we don't
- 30:01Speaker 2: know the overhead? Yeah, sorry, ye, john Let's do my singments.
- 30:04Speaker 2: Let's start with Johnny's old jokes. We call it joke
- 30:06Speaker 2: about that. I heard this one. I don't have it
- 30:14Speaker 2: written down, but I heard this one at the comedy club.
- 30:17Speaker 2: Then I was doing my Johnny and Friend show, which
- 30:19Speaker 2: is coming up February eighteenth, my last one. I've been
- 30:21Speaker 2: doing a monthly run, but the last one's coming up
- 30:23Speaker 2: February tenth. That the lab at Saint He's so get
- 30:25Speaker 2: those tickets. There's only one hundred seats. They usually sell out.
- 30:28Speaker 2: Come say hello and if you're listening to the show
- 30:31Speaker 2: and you are in the Nashville area, that'll be a
- 30:33Speaker 2: good one. I try out new materially a lot on
- 30:35Speaker 2: those shows. They're fun. But I was at the last
- 30:36Speaker 2: one and my buddy Dan Whitehurst was there and he
- 30:40Speaker 2: was we were talking about old jokes, and he said
- 30:42Speaker 2: he heard this one and it was a guy's at
- 30:44Speaker 2: a job interview and he said, well, there's a pretty
- 30:47Speaker 2: big gap. There's a four year gap in this resume.
- 30:52Speaker 2: Can you talk about that? And he goes oh, I
- 30:54Speaker 2: went to Yale and they go, oh, well, okay, that's
- 30:58Speaker 2: pretty good. And he goes, well, let me write that down.
- 31:01Speaker 2: That puts you in ther you're pretty much end. I
- 31:03Speaker 2: didn't know that. And he was like, oh, thank goodness,
- 31:05Speaker 2: I really need this job. It's pretty good. I love it. John,
- 31:16Speaker 2: A man tells his doctor, ever since you prescribe me
- 31:18Speaker 2: those sleeping pills, I've been able to relax. Finally, the
- 31:21Speaker 2: doctor responds, glad to hear you're only taking one per night, right,
- 31:24Speaker 2: And he goes, oh, I'm not taking them. I'm been
- 31:26Speaker 2: giving them to my wife. All right. Guys, listen, that's
- 31:29Speaker 2: a joke. Please don't give your wife don't poison. Come on,
- 31:35Speaker 2: and finally John a final exam to become the detective Detective.
- 31:39Speaker 2: The Chief Commissioner gathers the three remaining candidates and presents
- 31:44Speaker 2: them with a final test. They must look at a
- 31:46Speaker 2: suspect smugshot for just a few seconds, and then explain
- 31:49Speaker 2: how they would recognize that suspect in the crowd. The
- 31:51Speaker 2: first candidate comes in, the commissioner shows him the photo
- 31:54Speaker 2: and after a moment, he says it's easy. The suspect
- 31:55Speaker 2: has only one ear and one eye, so he's easy
- 31:58Speaker 2: to spot. The commissioner says, are you stupid, that's a
- 32:01Speaker 2: side photo. Get out of here. The second guy comes in,
- 32:03Speaker 2: sees the photo and after a few thinonds it's easy.
- 32:05Speaker 2: The suspect has one ear one eye, so he's easy
- 32:08Speaker 2: to distinguish in a crowd. The commissioner says, you're an idiot, too,
- 32:12Speaker 2: get out of here. The third enters. The commissioner wants
- 32:15Speaker 2: to be careful because the others were really unqualified. He
- 32:18Speaker 2: shows the photo to the third candidate, who thinks from
- 32:20Speaker 2: moent and says, the suspect wears contact lenses. The commissioner
- 32:24Speaker 2: is amazed because he doesn't even remember if the suspect
- 32:26Speaker 2: actually wore contact lenses, so he goes to check the records.
- 32:28Speaker 2: He confirms it's true. Then he returns to the candidate
- 32:31Speaker 2: and says, congratulations, you're a detective. I just have to ask,
- 32:34Speaker 2: how did you know that he wore contact lenses. The
- 32:37Speaker 2: candidate replies, well, with only one ear and one eye,
- 32:39Speaker 2: it's hard to wear glasses.
- 32:44Speaker 1: That's great.
- 32:45Speaker 2: I love a good stupid guy. Joe something about it.
- 32:48Speaker 1: That's what I never heard identify with the stupid guide Joe,
- 32:51Speaker 1: I went to Yale.
- 32:53Speaker 2: That's so funny. John, let's do this week in history.
- 32:56Speaker 2: We call it talk about then John. This Week nineteen
- 33:04Speaker 2: thirty and an invention that you may use every day.
- 33:08Speaker 2: Scotch tape. Okay, it's a big one. Three M markets
- 33:13Speaker 2: Scotch tape. It was created by a three M engineer,
- 33:16Speaker 2: Richard Drew, who had created masking tape in nineteen twenty five.
- 33:19Speaker 2: This guy was, Wow, this is a real yeah the
- 33:21Speaker 2: tape Jedi. Yeah, well, unbelievable. Uh, there's a guy who
- 33:25Speaker 2: does this. Our friend Paul Aldrich does a song about
- 33:28Speaker 2: duct tape. It's all about how duct tape has all
- 33:30Speaker 2: these uses and he says there's a dark side and
- 33:33Speaker 2: a light side, so it's like the force that holds
- 33:34Speaker 2: everything together. So what you said, he really is a
- 33:37Speaker 2: Jedi if he invented anyway, because duck tape has a
- 33:40Speaker 2: dark side and the alizes set. Anyway, he created a
- 33:42Speaker 2: masking tape nineteen twenty five. Then he made a transparent
- 33:45Speaker 2: version of it in nineteen thirty. The tape dispenser was
- 33:49Speaker 2: developed by THREEM engineer John Borden in nineteen thirty two.
- 33:52Speaker 2: So there was two years where you had to just
- 33:54Speaker 2: pick up the roll like a fourth visit. Yeah, that
- 33:57Speaker 2: was Those were the dark ages of tape.
- 33:59Speaker 1: They really were. I mean, do you have when you
- 34:02Speaker 1: can't find the edge of a tape? It is there's
- 34:04Speaker 1: nothing more frustrating. Yeah, and I don't have nail. I
- 34:07Speaker 1: bite my nails, so I got nothing. I gotta have help. Yeah,
- 34:09Speaker 1: I got I got a.
- 34:10Speaker 2: Phone a friend.
- 34:11Speaker 1: Do you try to see it or feel for it both?
- 34:14Speaker 2: I'm trying to dig around, but again, no nails. Yeah,
- 34:17Speaker 2: it's it's a disaster.
- 34:18Speaker 1: I tell you, we talk about the real issues here.
- 34:20Speaker 1: I'll talk about that. This is guys, if you're out there.
- 34:24Speaker 2: I wonder why it was called Scotch tape. It doesn't
- 34:26Speaker 2: say I wonder why I was gonna ask you. It
- 34:28Speaker 2: has a little like plaid logo there and so or
- 34:32Speaker 2: the Paisley whatever it is.
- 34:33Speaker 1: The little Scotch to buy their tip by the hundreds
- 34:36Speaker 1: and thousands. Look at me, Scotch tip.
- 34:41Speaker 2: My photo fell down. I don't know. It's a really
- 34:44Speaker 2: bad that's stupid. I apologize to anybody. Mitch Heedburgh great
- 34:48Speaker 2: communities to have a bit about how he wanted to
- 34:51Speaker 2: get a map of the world, and then put pins
- 34:53Speaker 2: everywhere he would visit. But he goes. But first I
- 34:55Speaker 2: got to visit the four corners of the earth so
- 34:57Speaker 2: that the map doesn't fall down. That's good, Mitch Hedberg.
- 35:02Speaker 2: He shall be missed, John. This week is a groundhog
- 35:06Speaker 2: Day coming up, and there's a little history of groundhog Day.
- 35:08Speaker 2: If the groundhog's uses shadow on February second, expect six
- 35:11Speaker 2: more weeks of winter. We know that the tradition derives
- 35:14Speaker 2: from the Pennsylvania Dutch superstition that if a groundhog emerging
- 35:18Speaker 2: from its burrow on this day sees its shadow due
- 35:21Speaker 2: to clear weather, it will retreat to its dend, and
- 35:24Speaker 2: winter will go on for six more weeks. If it
- 35:26Speaker 2: does not see its shadow because of cloudiness, spring will
- 35:29Speaker 2: arrive early. They brought the tradition from Germany, substituting a
- 35:33Speaker 2: groundhog for the German tradition of a badger. Did not
- 35:35Speaker 2: know that in Germany it was badger Day. And the
- 35:39Speaker 2: tradition itself may be derived from the lore that clear
- 35:42Speaker 2: weather on the Christian Festival of Candleness, which I did
- 35:45Speaker 2: not know was a thing, forebodes a prolonged winner. Punk Satanni,
- 35:48Speaker 2: Pennsylvania began its annual celebration in eighteen eighty seven. I
- 35:51Speaker 2: did not know that had gone on that long. That's
- 35:53Speaker 2: a long time for punk Satawani Phil, which it now featured.
- 35:57Speaker 2: I don't know when Punkstoni Phil got intern into, but
- 35:58Speaker 2: Punkatoni Pensylvania has been celebrating annually eighteen eighty seven. Wow,
- 36:02Speaker 2: and on John this week finally twenty sixteen. Did not
- 36:07Speaker 2: know this story. This is a wild one. This is
- 36:09Speaker 2: one of those like the punishment kind of fits the
- 36:11Speaker 2: crime stories. A terrorist was sucked out of a plane
- 36:15Speaker 2: that he was trying to hijack. A suicide bomber set
- 36:18Speaker 2: off a bomb in Dahlia Airlines Flight one fifty nine,
- 36:23Speaker 2: twenty minutes after it took off from Magadushu, Somalia, en
- 36:26Speaker 2: route to Djibouti City. The bomb created a hole in
- 36:30Speaker 2: the side of the plane, which sucked out the bomber.
- 36:33Speaker 2: Several others were injured, but the bomber was the only
- 36:36Speaker 2: one killed. So he's trying to blow off the plane.
- 36:39Speaker 2: What he sucked out when the explosion of the bomb.
- 36:41Speaker 2: He was a suicide bomber. Yeah, he was a suicide bomber.
- 36:44Speaker 2: I was trying to kill everybody on the ball.
- 36:46Speaker 1: Wasn't the bomb attached to him when the bomb have
- 36:47Speaker 1: killed him before he was sucked out of the plane.
- 36:50Speaker 2: I'm trying to look hold on. I think he was.
- 36:52Speaker 2: The bomb was placed somewhere in the head.
- 36:54Speaker 1: He didn't have it, honest.
- 36:55Speaker 2: Yeah, And he wasn't killed by the bomb. Evidently he
- 36:57Speaker 2: was killed by the hole and he was sucked out
- 36:59Speaker 2: of the hole, is what this led me to believe.
- 37:02Speaker 2: It's believe that the bomb was time to go off
- 37:03Speaker 2: when the plane was in mid flight at a higher altitude,
- 37:06Speaker 2: but the plane had been delayed, causing the bomb to
- 37:08Speaker 2: go off before the plane could reach a cruising altitude.
- 37:10Speaker 2: If it had gone off a cruising altitude when the
- 37:11Speaker 2: plane was fully pressurized, it would have killed all on
- 37:14Speaker 2: board likely. So so next time your flight's delayed, be like, hey,
- 37:20Speaker 2: maybe we don't know what we're being right, come on, Yeah,
- 37:23Speaker 2: sometimes you need to take a minute look at the
- 37:27Speaker 2: shiny tree limbs around you and be like, hey, this
- 37:30Speaker 2: is by being stuck in this house with all these
- 37:32Speaker 2: crazy kids.
- 37:33Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I don't know. Just trying to find the
- 37:36Speaker 1: books some flights the other day. Yeah, I'm confused now
- 37:40Speaker 1: by flights by Southwest has changed everything.
- 37:42Speaker 2: Oh sure, Yeah, I'm trying to figure out if how
- 37:44Speaker 2: to pay for the bag or not. No, you do
- 37:46Speaker 2: unless you have the Southwest card. How did you get
- 37:48Speaker 2: one free? You have the card, you get one free.
- 37:50Speaker 2: I had to book some Delta get too free because.
- 37:53Speaker 1: Status or whatever status. I want to go sit in
- 37:56Speaker 1: one of the airport lounges.
- 37:58Speaker 2: Oh have you never No? No, I've had Southwest is
- 38:02Speaker 2: building lounges.
- 38:03Speaker 1: I had a meeting in an airport lounge for a
- 38:05Speaker 1: book one pretty good feeling. I did not get back.
- 38:08Speaker 2: How did you get in though? If you're not a
- 38:09Speaker 2: did they have a voucher?
- 38:11Speaker 1: So this is one of my This is a Robert
- 38:12Speaker 1: Walgemuth story. Yeah, my agent had just passed away. Yeah,
- 38:15Speaker 1: it's just amazing.
- 38:16Speaker 2: Guy.
- 38:18Speaker 1: We were meeting a guy in Nashville Airport. He took
- 38:21Speaker 1: me to the counter and yeah, he got me a
- 38:25Speaker 1: pass to just go through security, right, but not to
- 38:27Speaker 1: get on a plane. And then we went in and
- 38:29Speaker 1: had the meeting inside.
- 38:30Speaker 2: But to get into the lounge. They have another voucher
- 38:32Speaker 2: that you have to use because I get like five years.
- 38:34Speaker 2: I think he might have unlimited if.
- 38:36Speaker 1: I remember correctly. When we walked in the door, they
- 38:38Speaker 1: were like.
- 38:39Speaker 2: Welcome back. Well, sometimes do you scan your ticket and
- 38:43Speaker 2: they know your name from the ticket that you think
- 38:44Speaker 2: even before the tickets.
- 38:45Speaker 1: I would go places with him and he was the
- 38:46Speaker 1: kind of guy that they knew who he was.
- 38:48Speaker 2: I don't know if I want to be that guy.
- 38:50Speaker 2: There's appealing about it, but then there's like yeah, because
- 38:54Speaker 2: then like if you whatever.
- 38:55Speaker 1: If you get in the lounge, I'm fine with it.
- 38:57Speaker 2: Like Dave Ramsey us to talk about that about how
- 38:59Speaker 2: he tips third at every meal even if the service
- 39:02Speaker 2: is bad, because he doesn't want everybody to have a
- 39:03Speaker 2: Dave Ramsey story even if the service is awful. He
- 39:06Speaker 2: would like to send them a message of being like, well,
- 39:08Speaker 2: this is not tippable. But he said, I can't have
- 39:10Speaker 2: somebody to be like Dave Ramsey's a terrible tipper. So
- 39:13Speaker 2: everybody's going to get at least thirty percent from Dave Ramblin.
- 39:15Speaker 2: And it's true. You get to a level of fame
- 39:17Speaker 2: where it's like you're going to have a Meryl Streep
- 39:19Speaker 2: story if you see her yelling at her kid in
- 39:21Speaker 2: car line at school. Now everybody thinks MARYL. Streep is
- 39:23Speaker 2: a monster. So you just you have to be on
- 39:25Speaker 2: your best behavior at all times.
- 39:27Speaker 1: That's why again, I keep myself under the radar. Yeah,
- 39:29Speaker 1: I can act like I must. I can yell at
- 39:31Speaker 1: your kid. Nobody has to know.
- 39:32Speaker 2: You can see John at your local car line screaming
- 39:36Speaker 2: that a seventeen year old.
- 39:37Speaker 1: I do have those those fearful fantasies of getting right
- 39:43Speaker 1: up on someone being upset in traffic, and then we
- 39:45Speaker 1: all pulled on the same church. Oh yeah, Sunday morning.
- 39:48Speaker 1: I think that happened to me one time.
- 39:50Speaker 2: Oh boy.
- 39:50Speaker 1: I don't think I was like major, but I was frustrated. Yeah,
- 39:53Speaker 1: and then we all pull in. I'm about to go
- 39:55Speaker 1: preach the messageway.
- 39:56Speaker 2: And want that preach. Sometimes you're mad at the person
- 39:58Speaker 2: and they're going to the same place you Heaven. We
- 40:00Speaker 2: hope we're all going to heaven. Yeah, you're a pretty weird.
- 40:03Speaker 2: Maybe you ought to just calm down. Huh Yeah, Yeah,
- 40:08Speaker 2: maybe that's a lesson you need to take to heart
- 40:10Speaker 2: for yourself. I think that's one of them.
- 40:11Speaker 1: I felt like that was for everybody else.
- 40:13Speaker 2: Okay, that's fine too.
- 40:15Speaker 1: It's I don't really take things to heart for me
- 40:19Speaker 1: because I don't really need them. You know what I'm saying.
- 40:21Speaker 2: I think somebody's about to get sucked out of their
- 40:23Speaker 2: own plane, if you know what I mean. John's got
- 40:25Speaker 2: a bomb meant for other people, and sometimes.
- 40:30Speaker 1: It's a weird metaphor.
- 40:31Speaker 2: He's headed to jibouty C.
- 40:33Speaker 1: It's a stretch.
- 40:34Speaker 2: It's a stretch. Really Okay, Well, I thought that was
- 40:40Speaker 2: a great show. I don't know.
- 40:43Speaker 1: Hey, thanks for the new mic if you're watching it
- 40:45Speaker 1: on YouTube right now. May not a sponsor, but Johnny
- 40:49Speaker 1: bought me a mic. Yeah you're this guy. Yeah, I
- 40:51Speaker 1: think I think it's a good quality. All I bought
- 40:53Speaker 1: you was a burger today, by the way. Yeah, those
- 40:55Speaker 1: burgers at Cheddar unbelievable.
- 40:58Speaker 2: It's on board.
- 41:00Speaker 1: Yeah. I mean, I don't even.
- 41:02Speaker 2: Need a restaurant sponsor because we meet and eat right
- 41:04Speaker 2: before every show.
- 41:06Speaker 1: That should be the cheapest burger too, that it was huge.
- 41:09Speaker 2: Well they have the kids burger.
- 41:10Speaker 1: That's sorry, but you're not really supposed to order that.
- 41:12Speaker 1: You're but the bread was kind of toasted on around
- 41:14Speaker 1: the edges. Did you catch that lit seared buns? You
- 41:17Speaker 1: weren't barely eating yours? And I shut mine down like
- 41:19Speaker 1: it like I was a starving.
- 41:20Speaker 2: Love a good seared bun. I'm just craving the beach
- 41:25Speaker 2: right now because I'm so cold. I'm like, I could
- 41:27Speaker 2: be searing my buns somewhere, but.
- 41:29Speaker 1: No, I really do want to go to the beach.
- 41:33Speaker 2: You'll get there.
- 41:34Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 41:34Speaker 2: It just takes a lot of money. You got money, No,
- 41:37Speaker 2: you spend it on.
- 41:38Speaker 1: Generator, generator.
- 41:39Speaker 2: But yeah, I did keep Facebook, Marketplace sell the generator,
- 41:44Speaker 2: can't kin.
- 41:44Speaker 1: Actually, my neighbor got this known and I'm about to
- 41:47Speaker 1: have it done. Did you know you can easily have
- 41:49Speaker 1: someone come wire your house with a little extra panel
- 41:52Speaker 1: where you just plug your generator right into the side
- 41:54Speaker 1: and then you just you just pick which.
- 41:56Speaker 2: Uh pick which ones you want to run?
- 41:58Speaker 1: You know, which had the circuit break.
- 41:59Speaker 2: Which family members you want to leave in the cold.
- 42:01Speaker 1: That's right.
- 42:01Speaker 2: You're like, hey, maybe you should have been nicer than.
- 42:03Speaker 1: Maybe I just move your circuit breaker.
- 42:05Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a lot of control. Yeah, John's making a
- 42:09Speaker 2: little death star at the house.
- 42:12Speaker 1: So much easier, though're running all those cords and came, well.
- 42:14Speaker 2: That doesn't sound easy, you go, it's so it's an
- 42:16Speaker 2: easy panel at an extra pan, it's probably thousands of dollars.
- 42:18Speaker 1: No, I heard it wasn't really well my well, my
- 42:20Speaker 1: neighbor had it done for not that I need to reasonable.
- 42:25Speaker 2: So well, we need to look.
- 42:28Speaker 1: You know, these generacs cost like ten grand.
- 42:29Speaker 2: We need a sponsor that's like one of those into
- 42:31Speaker 2: the World sponsors. Like because I used to like hear
- 42:33Speaker 2: those commercials on sports talk radio, these people with.
- 42:36Speaker 1: Their but now now you're like, I think they need
- 42:38Speaker 1: a little go bag bury, some gold taser. May my
- 42:45Speaker 1: uh my brother who lives in Texas, Wes who's a
- 42:48Speaker 1: mutual friend, Yeah, of yours is well love West. Wes
- 42:52Speaker 1: was reminding me that my dad, who he had a
- 42:55Speaker 1: go bag, Well, when Y two k came, Dad took
- 42:58Speaker 1: it very soon.
- 42:59Speaker 2: Why too, hey bag?
- 43:00Speaker 1: Yeah, it wasn't just a bag. No no, no, no, no, no,
- 43:04Speaker 1: a crate. Oh, dad had lots of things. West reminded
- 43:06Speaker 1: me of the dad had two fifty five barrel drums
- 43:10Speaker 1: of gasoline.
- 43:11Speaker 2: I do remember you telling me that, Yeah, which, that's
- 43:13Speaker 2: a lot. You have explosives on your it's a lot
- 43:15Speaker 2: of gas.
- 43:16Speaker 1: Yeah, And then he had to.
- 43:18Speaker 2: Be outside smoke and talking about it. Man, you think
- 43:20Speaker 2: it's a myth. These computers are.
- 43:22Speaker 1: Crazy you know what we were doing on the Why
- 43:26Speaker 1: two K? No, we were playing a show in oak Ridge, Tennessee.
- 43:29Speaker 2: At the mall.
- 43:30Speaker 1: Yep, it was like a late night at the mall.
- 43:32Speaker 1: Didn't they have generators and stuff in case it went out? Yeah,
- 43:35Speaker 1: that's a full circle moment right there for the show.
- 43:37Speaker 2: And then nothing happened and here we are.
- 43:39Speaker 1: Yeah, were you disappointed?
- 43:42Speaker 2: I think I think it's the same thing as the
- 43:45Speaker 2: gun thing. It's like, you do you sort of go, well,
- 43:47Speaker 2: we did all this. You feel a little foolish if
- 43:49Speaker 2: you never get to use your generator that you had
- 43:52Speaker 2: or the you had all these and I'll be the
- 43:55Speaker 2: prepared one. I'm the one who But.
- 43:56Speaker 1: You don't want to be the generation that cried why
- 43:58Speaker 1: two K? And then when it really happens. Yeah, you
- 44:01Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. Yeah, you gotta the people who.
- 44:05Speaker 2: Cried why two K? There were books, there were experts,
- 44:08Speaker 2: there were white twok experts. It's like a whole cottage
- 44:11Speaker 2: industry of people who were making money on the fear
- 44:13Speaker 2: of this thing, and then when it didn't happen, it's like,
- 44:16Speaker 2: guess I'll get a job at Low's. I don't know
- 44:18Speaker 2: what you do after that, you.
- 44:19Speaker 1: Just like those people took your money from the books and.
- 44:21Speaker 2: Yeah there were crop circle people that were like crop circles,
- 44:24Speaker 2: and then you find it, Oh, it's hoaxed, like five
- 44:26Speaker 2: guys and this is how they pull off the hopes
- 44:28Speaker 2: of crop circles. It's not aliens. And then you're like, oh,
- 44:30Speaker 2: I wrote a whole book about why it has to
- 44:33Speaker 2: be aliens.
- 44:33Speaker 1: I do have to say this.
- 44:34Speaker 2: You think crop circles are real?
- 44:36Speaker 1: Some of them, I don't know what they are.
- 44:38Speaker 2: But no, I'm saying like they were all faked.
- 44:40Speaker 1: There's like a god crop circles are fake.
- 44:42Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, this is New Star very fake. But I
- 44:46Speaker 2: mean again, there's gonna be websites that say that that's
- 44:49Speaker 2: been to be debunked too, And then they're.
- 44:50Speaker 1: Gonna roll your eyes at this. Okay, sure, but do
- 44:53Speaker 1: you ever watch The Curse of Oak Island? Really he
- 44:56Speaker 1: rolled his eyes. So they first you think this is aliens.
- 45:01Speaker 1: No no, no, no, no no. They have like real archaeologists now
- 45:06Speaker 1: on the show. In the beginning, they don't think they
- 45:08Speaker 1: had the real ones. But it's gotten so much. Just
- 45:10Speaker 1: like twelve seasons end, they have found a lot, They
- 45:13Speaker 1: found lots they've not found a lot of treasure per se, right.
- 45:17Speaker 2: But because buried treasure is kind of one of those
- 45:19Speaker 2: things too. That's a myth too about like pirates Burier.
- 45:22Speaker 1: Well, they're making a map to it, so so a
- 45:24Speaker 1: lot of them spent their treasure to deal with this
- 45:26Speaker 1: pirates And this is where you're going to. It's not
- 45:28Speaker 1: really pirate treasure. Oh okay, this is where I was
- 45:31Speaker 1: rolling my eyes for a long time.
- 45:33Speaker 2: Yeah, while you watched Six Seasons.
- 45:35Speaker 1: This is they think it is the Night's Templar. Oh
- 45:40Speaker 1: brought things from Europe during the Crusades, basically to store
- 45:44Speaker 1: priceless religious treasures. Basically this is coff which that's what
- 45:49Speaker 1: I would think. But they have found I'm going to say,
- 45:52Speaker 1: hundreds thousands of archaeologically verified things from anywhere from the
- 45:59Speaker 1: twelve hundreds all the way to like the seventeen hundreds
- 46:02Speaker 1: before the discovery of whatever the first little pit was
- 46:05Speaker 1: they were doing. I'm talking there's a swamp, yeah, and
- 46:09Speaker 1: when they dig in it and drain it, they have
- 46:11Speaker 1: found huge road systems built.
- 46:15Speaker 2: Oh so you think there's like a ox shoe society.
- 46:17Speaker 1: And they found all these chains. Something heavy was pulled
- 46:20Speaker 1: through on this small, little tiny island. They found Roman coins,
- 46:23Speaker 1: a bunch of Roman coins, a bunch of British coins,
- 46:26Speaker 1: and seventeen hundreds a bunch of like like that's the deal.
- 46:30Speaker 1: And then underground, this is the crazy part. Two hundred
- 46:32Speaker 1: feet underground. This was in one of the early seasons.
- 46:35Speaker 1: They found human bone and they used the science to
- 46:40Speaker 1: trace it to like thirteenth fourteenth century. One of the
- 46:44Speaker 1: bones was from Europe and one was from Africa. It
- 46:47Speaker 1: was the Middle East and of their genetic descent. So like,
- 46:53Speaker 1: you don't get somebody's bone two hundred feet underground, you
- 46:56Speaker 1: know what I'm saying, Johnny.
- 46:57Speaker 2: So I believe, like there's stuff we don't know.
- 47:00Speaker 1: I do believe there was a nice templar and this
- 47:01Speaker 1: they'll bring real scholars on and this is what they've not.
- 47:03Speaker 1: This is what really turns me a little bit is
- 47:06Speaker 1: I'm like, yeah, whatever, And then they'll sit with some
- 47:08Speaker 1: historian who has spent their whole PhD career studying the
- 47:13Speaker 1: Knights Templar or whatever, and they're going, no, this is
- 47:15Speaker 1: here's there and they and they travel to Europe too,
- 47:17Speaker 1: and they'll go to like here's the prison where they
- 47:19Speaker 1: locked up the Knights Templar, and here's the sibnals they
- 47:21Speaker 1: put on the wall. It's all there. Yeah, but it's
- 47:23Speaker 1: all so mysterious sounding. It's been like and it's intentional.
- 47:27Speaker 1: It's a secret society but right, but it's it's like
- 47:30Speaker 1: you don't know what to shrug off and want to go, Well,
- 47:33Speaker 1: these were real people. I just don't know what all
- 47:35Speaker 1: that they do into a secret society just once nobody Yeah,
- 47:39Speaker 1: like the Mason's never approached me, No one's ever. I
- 47:44Speaker 1: don't know.
- 47:45Speaker 2: Maybe we're just comedy, is the closest thing I have
- 47:47Speaker 2: to a secret society of like people who do the
- 47:49Speaker 2: same thing, and they're like, but we don't. We're all
- 47:52Speaker 2: like jealous of each other and we don't share.
- 47:55Speaker 1: You don't really have any writer friends. That's not true.
- 47:58Speaker 1: I have friends that right, but I use a write
- 48:00Speaker 1: for them or whatever with them. I don't have anybody
- 48:03Speaker 1: that does what I do per se. Very few like
- 48:05Speaker 1: Collaborator the Rights Templar. I apologize the show on that note.
- 48:14Speaker 2: No I liked it. John's in a secret society of writers.
- 48:17Speaker 1: We need like a secret podcast society.
- 48:20Speaker 2: We need a secret knock. I think if you're gonna
- 48:22Speaker 2: have a lifetime carry permit into your eighties. I'm gonna
- 48:29Speaker 2: come knocking at your door one day and you just
- 48:31Speaker 2: can they're here. I'll be like, no, I need like
- 48:36Speaker 2: a secret. It needs something like.
- 48:38Speaker 1: If my mind begins to go, I give you permission
- 48:40Speaker 1: to disarm me.
- 48:42Speaker 2: Good luck at my peril. Good grief. You heard it
- 48:46Speaker 2: here first, there you go so well?
- 48:49Speaker 1: All right, Hey, guys, that was a lot of fun.

- 49:04Speaker 2: probably have sixty or seventy public shows already on the
- 49:06Speaker 2: calendar for this year. We're probably coming at least within
- 49:09Speaker 2: driving distance of you, if not to your very back door.
- 49:12Speaker 1: The least you could do. Yes, just get in the
- 49:14Speaker 1: car and go see Johnny. What's so hard about this?
- 49:16Speaker 1: I don't understand why you're so resistant to it.
- 49:19Speaker 2: As far as they return red for and getting upset.
- 49:22Speaker 1: Yeah, like, hey, we hear you, stop yelling. Yeah, actually
- 49:25Speaker 1: we can't hear you.
- 49:25Speaker 2: We don't know. For all we know you don't even
- 49:27Speaker 2: have power and you're doing one of those hand crank radios.
- 49:29Speaker 1: Yeah, to get right. Now, you're just hoping that somebody
- 49:32Speaker 1: out there is.
- 49:32Speaker 2: And now I'm scolding you. I apologize, but it'd be
- 49:35Speaker 2: nice to see you out there on the road. And
- 49:36Speaker 2: we love to see our I love to see podcast

- 50:22Speaker 1: Guess we guys, thanks for the Tommy Games today.
- 50:25Speaker 2: Let's do it again next week. Let's talk about that.
