Latest / The Daily Sarcast / August 11th, 2026: The Tupac Trial, New Vaccine Rules And An Exhausting Travel Update From Chicago
Transcript
- 0:00Are you tired? Not, I stayed up late tired.
- 0:04Exhaustion is for people who are tired from being tired.
- 0:07Do you wake up exhausted? Go to bed exhausted? Feel exhausted while actively doing nothing?
- 0:13Then ask your doctor about exhaustion.
- 0:16Exhaustion is clinically proven to make you say things like,
- 0:20I literally cannot. I'll do it tomorrow.
- 0:23And I need to lie down.
- 0:26Possible side effects include forgetting why you walked into a room,
- 0:29staring blankly at your phone for 20 minutes, cancelling plans that you made
- 0:33yourself, and becoming irrationally angry when someone says,
- 0:37Can I ask you a quick question?
- 0:39Exhaustion may also cause you to mistake basic human interaction for an overwhelming task.
- 0:45Do not take exhaustion if you are already tired. Actually, never mind. You already are.
- 0:50Exhaustion. Because you can never get enough sleep.
- 0:54Chaos in the midst of chaos isn't funny, but chaos in the midst of order is Steve Martin.
- 1:01Insert theme song here. This is the Daily Starcast. I give you the news and made you laugh.
- 1:06I'm Lindsay Vernick, and today is August 11, 2026.
- 1:10Okay, so if you can't tell, I'm literally exhausted. I'm going to get into it
- 1:14more on my Lindsay Life update, but I wanted to make sure that I got a pod out
- 1:18for today because, again, this is the last week of the podcast for like a month
- 1:22or so, so I wanted to make sure that I did one.
- 1:24But I do have to admit, this isn't my best work by far, so I understand if you're disappointed.
- 1:32But you will also understand if you when you learn about what i've just been through.
- 1:37So in real news okay so trump just signed an executive order yesterday directing
- 1:41the government to narrow its recommended childhood vaccine schedule to 11 routine immunizations,
- 1:48so the government says the goal is to give children what trump called gold standard protection,
- 1:53while aligning the u.s more closely with countries that recommend fewer vaccines,
- 1:58this new approach would chain recommendations around vaccines including hepatitis B, COVID, and flu.
- 2:04And gold standards is a very much Trump phase.
- 2:08Everything has to be the best, right? We have gold standard protection with
- 2:12him, gold standard economy, a gold standard golf course.
- 2:15I mean, I wouldn't be surprised if you call it a parking ticket,
- 2:18a gold standard parking ticket.
- 2:21But this one is obviously a lot more serious than that. Medical organizations
- 2:25have obviously pushed back on these changes, and the debate is now putting childhood
- 2:29vaccination policy right in the middle of the administration's broader fight over public health.
- 2:34So basically, if you were hoping for a calm, boring office, wrong administration.
- 2:39Nearly 30 years after Tupac was killed in Las Vegas, the trial of Dwayne Keith
- 2:45D. Davis has finally begun.
- 2:48Davis, who is now 63, is accused of orchestrating the 1996 drive-by shooting
- 2:54that killed Tupac. He is pleaded not guilty.
- 2:57Prosecutors say that Davis helped organize the attack and supplied the gun,
- 3:02but they're not saying that he personally pulled the trigger.
- 3:05The case was revived after Davis publicly discussed his involvement and described
- 3:10the event in his 2019 memoir.
- 3:13The trial could last up to five weeks and may include testimony from former
- 3:16death row records head Suge Knight, who was in the car with Tupac when the shooting
- 3:21happened, which means we're now potentially getting Suge Knight testimony in a courtroom in,
- 3:262026 about something that happened in 1996.
- 3:30That's literally a Netflix limited series with a $40 million budget.
- 3:35And I genuinely cannot believe we're finally getting to the point where the
- 3:38Tupac murder is being litigated in court.
- 3:42Like, Tupac was 25 when he died, and now there are people involved in this case
- 3:46who spent more time discussing the murder than he was alive.
- 3:50This whole thing is a bizarre time capsule of the East Coast,
- 3:53West Coast rap feud, death row records bad boy records and 1990s las vegas but
- 3:59after almost three decades everyone is still trying to answer the same question
- 4:03who actually pulled the trigger.
- 4:05Okay, so now AI is now like an HOA problem? So the AI revolution has hit its
- 4:11most American obstacle yet.
- 4:13People don't want a giant data center living next door to them.
- 4:17Across the country, communities are pushing back across massive AI data center
- 4:21projects because of concerns over electricity, water usage, noise,
- 4:26and the impact on local infrastructure.
- 4:28They're saying that at least 75 projects worth around $130 billion faced local
- 4:34opposition in the first quarter of this year.
- 4:37Banks are now paying closer attention to that opposition before financing new facilities.
- 4:42Like, obviously, we understand where these people are coming from.
- 4:45We were told AI was going to make our lives easier.
- 4:48And now AI needs an enormous amount of electricity, enormous amounts of water,
- 4:52and enormous warehouses full of computers.
- 4:55So the future of technology looks a lot less like the Jetsons and more like
- 4:59an industrial park behind your condo.
- 5:02This is going to become one of the funniest unintended consequences of the AI boom.
- 5:06Everyone loves AI until the AI needs substantia, and suddenly everyone are very
- 5:12interested in zoning laws.
- 5:15And it's also really funny that one of the biggest.
- 5:19Technological revolutions in human history may eventually be defeated by a group
- 5:24of suburban residents saying, not on my block, the final boss of artificial
- 5:28intelligence is not another AI.
- 5:31It's the homeowners associations in Lindsay life okay so I was supposed to go
- 5:36scout which means like check out this filming location for where we're going
- 5:41for yesterday and I was supposed to get
- 5:44on a flight at like one o'clock on Monday and everything was supposed to be
- 5:49really easy I was gonna wake up and go to the gym and then like head to the
- 5:52airport that's like 10 minutes away for me no big deal.
- 5:56But then I get a call at like 11 o'clock on Sunday night,
- 6:00and I'm usually sleeping by then but I was like out late like seeing some friends
- 6:05and I was hanging out with my roommate because I never get to see her and I
- 6:09get the call hey can you get on a flight first thing in the morning and I was
- 6:12like oh my god of course like no problem
- 6:15let me just like pack and go to sleep in the next like five hours like literally only had five hours,
- 6:21so I wake up at like 5 a.m.
- 6:22To get on my flight, but I checked my email to see that my flight on United
- 6:27got canceled. Then I got put on a Southwest flight that was supposed to leave
- 6:31at nine, but that got delayed until 11.
- 6:33So luckily I did go back to sleep for a few hours, but then I get on the plane
- 6:38to Chicago and I had to like run around Chicago. I got, I got to take a tour
- 6:42of Wrigley Field, which was so cool. Cause we'll be filming there.
- 6:45And I got to put my hand through the scoreboard. It was so much fun.
- 6:48That was the best part of my day. And then like.
- 6:51I had to hang out with everybody after because it's like such like a social
- 6:55thing and it's like weird if I like go home and go to bed, right?
- 6:57So that is why I'm exhausted and you probably got even more exhausted listening to that and I'm sorry.
- 7:04Lindsay lessons, a lesson by Lindsay. If you have a daily news podcast and you
- 7:10know you're going to be exhausted by the end of the day,
- 7:13maybe think about that earlier on in the day instead of like right before dinner
- 7:18time when you're starving and haven't eaten all day.
- 7:21Cooking tip of the day are eggs.
- 7:26Feedback, comments, questions, a nice Jewish by looking for a date,
- 7:29email me at lindsay at thedailystarcast.com.
- 7:32Thank you so much for listening. If you got to this point, oh my god,
- 7:35I give you a lot of credit.
- 7:37Don't forget to sign up for the summer residency too.
- 7:40So I'll talk to you guys tomorrow and I'll be in a lot better shape. Don't worry.
