Latest / Unscripted After 40 / My Teleprompter Guy Took A Nap
Transcript
- 0:13SPEAKER_00: I am loving my new glasses because now I can say I can finally see.
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: When I take it off, I can't see.
- 0:19SPEAKER_00: When I'm putting back on, I can see.
- 0:21SPEAKER_00: And the sad part about it, like I said, I've been picking at people with glasses all my life, and now look at me.
- 0:27SPEAKER_00: As soon as I get over 40, I got away reading glasses my goddamn self because I can't see nothing.
- 0:32SPEAKER_00: But we digress, we're gonna keep going.
- 0:35SPEAKER_00: But speaking of glasses, I don't know if any of y'all ever spoke on a teleprompter before.
- 0:43SPEAKER_00: So if you know you give a lot of speeches, or for all you actors out there or people that, you know, do shows, you you probably spoke on a teleprompter before.
- 0:53SPEAKER_00: Like if this show that I'm giving now, or this podcast, I'm saying show, but it's podcast that I'm doing, if it wasn't unstripped, I'd probably be reading off a pod, not saying reading off a pod, reading off a teleprompter, and then giving you information.
- 1:08SPEAKER_00: But since it's unstripped, I don't read off a teleprompter, I just talk.
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: And it's evident by the way you can see how my podcast is going some days and how my speech is, you know, um, what you say, losing me in the process of me talking.
- 1:22SPEAKER_00: So when I say it's unedited, it's unedited.
- 1:25SPEAKER_00: No telepromp, no nothing.
- 1:26SPEAKER_00: But I probably should start practicing, you know, reading a teleprompter because about a couple of weeks ago, about a month ago, I was asked to speak at an event.
- 1:39SPEAKER_00: And which is no problem, because you know, I speak at a couple of events, you know, throughout the years.
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: So I'm not afraid of talking in front of people.
- 1:47SPEAKER_00: Public speaking is not one of my weak spots, not one of my strongest spots, but not one of my weakest spots.
- 1:53SPEAKER_00: Because, you know, as you should, you should come prepared, right?
- 1:56SPEAKER_00: With a speech written that you even read a couple of times so that you know you have it in your head, and that when you read the speech, you pretty much like recapping what you said already off the speech, but you already got pretty much memorized in your head when you're reading the speech, in most cases.
- 2:14SPEAKER_00: But in this case, I was asked at the last minute because the person that was supposed to do it unfortunately got sick, and I was the second choice anyway.
- 2:22SPEAKER_00: But the person that was the first choice is a real good speaker, and I like, yeah, I don't have to worry about it.
- 2:28SPEAKER_00: They're gonna go ahead and get this done and go out there and speak, and then they're gonna kill it, right?
- 2:34SPEAKER_00: Because, you know, you know people better than you.
- 2:36SPEAKER_00: I I won't tell him that, but I know he's better than me as a in public speaking anyway.
- 2:42SPEAKER_00: So um they called me up last minute, and the lady, I told her, I said, okay, well, let me give him a second red my speech.
- 2:49SPEAKER_00: She said, Well, I need your speech in a day.
- 2:51SPEAKER_00: I'm like, okay, that that's new.
- 2:54SPEAKER_00: So I sent her my speech in a day, because, you know, unfortunately, had a deadline.
- 2:59SPEAKER_00: I think they want to read over the speech, make sure I don't say nothing crazy.
- 3:02SPEAKER_00: You know, as old people, we always, you know, we give a surprise.
- 3:06SPEAKER_00: And she said, you know, you don't have to worry about it too much.
- 3:10SPEAKER_00: Um, just uh speech should be on the teleprompter.
- 3:14SPEAKER_00: And we'll run the teleprompter at a decent speed so that you can just read your speech off the teleprompter.
- 3:20SPEAKER_00: I'm like, you know what?
- 3:21SPEAKER_00: I can't be too hard.
- 3:22SPEAKER_00: I read a lot, you know.
- 3:24SPEAKER_00: It's just like reading a book, you know, just if I stumble a word, just keep going, you know, stay calm, don't get nervous.
- 3:31SPEAKER_00: It's it's just a telepromp, right?
- 3:33SPEAKER_00: But I never actually read off a telepromp before.
- 3:39SPEAKER_00: God bless all those politicians and those people that be reading the speech, the award, people that have those teleprompts up there, you know, at the Essence Award or the Emmys and stuff like that, and they have to read off that teleprompt to all those actors.
- 3:54SPEAKER_00: Reading off a teleprompter is extremely harder than you think.
- 3:59SPEAKER_00: And it didn't help out that my teleprompter operator fell asleep on the job.
- 4:06SPEAKER_00: Because if most of y'all don't know, a teleprompter is supposed to go at a certain speed.
- 4:10SPEAKER_00: And like I say, it's not based on how well, well, you should be able to read pretty well, which I consider myself to read pretty well.
- 4:19SPEAKER_00: But if the words are, you know, zooming across the stream so fast that I can barely process them in my head because I'm old now, I can't read them if I can't see them.
- 4:31SPEAKER_00: And I wear glasses.
- 4:32SPEAKER_00: So, and then it don't help out that the teleprompter, I don't know if they had the it looked like I was looking at the words nail fuzzy.
- 4:40SPEAKER_00: And I got, like I said, I wear reading glasses.
- 4:42SPEAKER_00: So I can see far.
- 4:44SPEAKER_00: I can't see close up.
- 4:46SPEAKER_00: So that wasn't the problem.
- 4:47SPEAKER_00: Teleprompter had to be like least maybe I say, I'm saying 25 feet, but it probably maybe shorter than that.
- 4:55SPEAKER_00: But it wasn't close.
- 4:56SPEAKER_00: I know it wasn't close, it was big enough where I could read it and stay.
- 4:59SPEAKER_00: But the guy, he he, I think he fell asleep on the job because the teleprompter went so fast, and I'm sitting there reading it as it's going fast until I realized like I can't stick this pace because now my elegant speaking voice that I'm trying to do and give this great speech to these people was not coming out right.
- 5:20SPEAKER_00: So I just pretty much stopped reading off the teleprompter and just winged it.
- 5:26SPEAKER_00: Yeah, because that telepromp crap is hard.
- 5:29SPEAKER_00: But yeah, I just want to say that right quick.
- 5:31SPEAKER_00: So for for all y'all that read off these teleprompts, um, good for y'all.
- 5:36SPEAKER_00: Um, I need to practice on it and get my life together so I can learn how to read off a teleprompter to be a professional.
- 5:42SPEAKER_00: Because, you know, I, if I haven't told you, I'm telling you now, one of these days I am gonna try to go into politics.
- 5:48SPEAKER_00: And being that now I have to read off a teleprompter, I need to learn how to read off a teleprompter so I won't sound like a retard when I'm talking to people.
- 5:57SPEAKER_00: Because apparently, right now, baby, I'm not doing a great job.
- 6:02SPEAKER_00: I'm doing a horrible job reading off a teleprompter.
- 6:05SPEAKER_00: It almost sounds like I can't read.
- 6:06SPEAKER_00: That's that's what we're gonna say.
- 6:07SPEAKER_00: They're gonna like, man, we knew he couldn't read all the time.
- 6:09SPEAKER_00: He's from South Carolina, he can't read.
- 6:12SPEAKER_00: I'm like, what the let my whole state down.
- 6:15SPEAKER_00: That's how I feel like.
- 6:15SPEAKER_00: Let my whole state, my school system, my college, they're gonna come back and take my degrees from me.
- 6:20SPEAKER_00: Like, how we let this guy pass through all these schools and he can't read, you know, and so it's gonna be bad.
- 6:26SPEAKER_00: It's gonna be bad.
- 6:27SPEAKER_00: I need to fix this problem.
- 6:28SPEAKER_00: But going from the teleprompter problem, going to after I realized I couldn't read on the teleprompter, you know, I'm going home and I'm driving back home from Raleigh, and my son calls me.
- 6:44SPEAKER_00: Now, my son and I have a good relationship, and I feel like we can talk about generally most things and stuff like that, but he should know me by, you know, live with me most of his life and know the type of person I am.
- 6:59SPEAKER_00: And before he called me, he should have thought about the questions he was gonna ask me when he asked for advice.
- 7:08SPEAKER_00: You know, it's certain advice is that, you know, a father's son should give, like, you know, make sure that you study and stick in the books, make sure you, you know, be proud of your name, make sure you carry yourself as a respectful young man.
- 7:25SPEAKER_00: You know, good advice you give your son stuff like that.
- 7:28SPEAKER_00: I'm not the one to call about relationship um, you know, advice or about anything about love or anything like that.
- 7:38SPEAKER_00: Um I I joined a book reading club, I think I told you in one episode, a romance book club.
- 7:44SPEAKER_00: It is killing me.
- 7:45SPEAKER_00: I mean, I like reading, but romance books are killing me.
- 7:49SPEAKER_00: It's just fake.
- 7:50SPEAKER_00: So I'm not like saying I'm not unromantic.
- 7:53SPEAKER_00: I just don't believe that, you know, I should be the one giving advice about romance.
- 7:59SPEAKER_00: You know, she go talk to someone else that is more palatable or sensitive to these issues that you you got.
- 8:08SPEAKER_00: So he called me.
- 8:11SPEAKER_00: He was saying, Dad, you know, I've been dating this girl for about a month now, and she always wondering what I'm doing and where I'm at.
- 8:23SPEAKER_00: And stop, pause.
- 8:26SPEAKER_00: At that moment, I should have thought about what I was gonna say to him, but instead, something came out of my mouth that was just wrong.
- 8:36SPEAKER_00: You know, that when you get out the 40, stuff came out of your mouth wrong.
- 8:40SPEAKER_00: You know, you you start saying what you really feel instead of what you ought to say.
- 8:47SPEAKER_00: And that was that moment that I should have paused, think, then produced the thought.
- 8:53SPEAKER_00: And I did not, because I was like, you know, I don't understand why, first of all, you calling me, you didn't call your mom about this problem.
- 9:04SPEAKER_00: Second, um, are you married to that young lady and are she paying some bills that I don't know about?
- 9:10SPEAKER_00: Because if she is, I need to know so that I can take the money back that I'm giving you to pay for your bills since she apparently paying for your bills, since she wants to know where you're at, what you're doing all the time.
- 9:22SPEAKER_00: And I got it, you know, I it's that type of relationship.
- 9:25SPEAKER_00: That's their relationship.
- 9:26SPEAKER_00: But like I said, I start from earlier.
- 9:28SPEAKER_00: I shouldn't have been the one he called because I'm unsensitive to the situation that he was going through.
- 9:34SPEAKER_00: And I should have been more sensitive to the situation because, you know, he was calling me for advice, you know, the older wiser man that been through relationships during this time frame, you know, and that I can give him the best advice on how to deal with this woman.
- 9:51SPEAKER_00: And I did.
- 9:52SPEAKER_00: I told him to leave her alone, trade her in, get another woman.
- 9:57SPEAKER_00: Um, apparently, for understanding from talking to other people, I guess that was the wrong advice.
- 10:04SPEAKER_00: And he didn't take it anyway.
- 10:06SPEAKER_00: I don't know why he called me like I said, he didn't take the advice anyway.
- 10:08SPEAKER_00: But I don't see why a woman that you're not married to asking you all the questions about where are you at and what time you're getting home and where you're gonna be at, like you don't trust me.
- 10:19SPEAKER_00: If you don't trust me, just leave me.
- 10:22SPEAKER_00: That's the best advice I can give anybody.
- 10:25SPEAKER_00: Why are you staying with this person if she don't trust you?
- 10:28SPEAKER_00: You know?
- 10:30SPEAKER_00: And that looking through the phone crap, oh man, oh man.
- 10:35SPEAKER_00: You you try to get heartbroken.
- 10:37SPEAKER_00: I still to this day don't understand why women look through the phone.
- 10:42SPEAKER_00: I mean, I got it.
- 10:44SPEAKER_00: If you don't trust your man, like I said earlier, leave him.
- 10:47SPEAKER_00: But why you keep looking through their phone, knowing that you're gonna find what you're looking for and you're gonna be disappointed.
- 10:55SPEAKER_00: I uh I understand this.
- 10:56SPEAKER_00: Like it's like you already know, and then you you say, you know what?
- 11:00SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna put myself in this situation and get myself in this bad hair space, and then bam.
- 11:08SPEAKER_00: Or you might see something in there that might be totally innocent, but for some reason is not to you.
- 11:16SPEAKER_00: Which is, I got it.
- 11:17SPEAKER_00: Your opinion, whatever you think.
- 11:21SPEAKER_00: But in Grant's need to think about it, I I don't understand.
- 11:24SPEAKER_00: Like I say, I I don't know why he called me.
- 11:28SPEAKER_00: I'm still trying to figure out why he called me.
- 11:30SPEAKER_00: Um, he know I wasn't the right person to talk to about this because he knows how I feel about that stuff.
- 11:35SPEAKER_00: Because me personally, I think he should just focus on getting out of school first, you know, um, and then work on getting his money.
- 11:42SPEAKER_00: Because I never met a woman that would take care of a man.
- 11:47SPEAKER_00: Well, not me personally.
- 11:48SPEAKER_00: I I think there's some out there.
- 11:50SPEAKER_00: I just didn't meet the right woman nowhere.
- 11:53SPEAKER_00: I ain't know woman want to take care of me.
- 11:55SPEAKER_00: Not like that, you know, like pay my bills, um, you know, pay the house bills and stuff like that.
- 12:01SPEAKER_00: Shoot.
- 12:03SPEAKER_00: If she out there, you let me know.
- 12:06SPEAKER_00: Because I haven't seen none.
- 12:08SPEAKER_00: And if you wanted, man, lucky men that got one, I don't know if it's lucky.
- 12:12SPEAKER_00: I think it might be unlucky because she might be controlling your life right now.
- 12:15SPEAKER_00: You might be a hostage.
- 12:16SPEAKER_00: If you are a hostess and you're being kept by your woman, blank three times.
- 12:22SPEAKER_00: Send me a message.
- 12:24SPEAKER_00: I will send someone to your house.
- 12:25SPEAKER_00: I can't come help you.
- 12:26SPEAKER_00: Uh I don't want none of that smoke, but I will send someone to help you get out of that situation.
- 12:32SPEAKER_00: But yeah, he he needs to, I might need to renegotiate and get a new conversation and then go back to that topic with him.
- 12:40SPEAKER_00: I might need to give him a book.
- 12:41SPEAKER_00: That's what that's what I'm gonna do.
- 12:42SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna give him a book on relationships and go for it.
- 12:46SPEAKER_00: See, that's why I need to talk to y'all about this because I knew I was the wrong person to give him information anyway.
- 12:51SPEAKER_00: Like I said, first of all, I I just got finished trying to do a speech that I couldn't read off the teleprompter anyway.
- 12:58SPEAKER_00: That that already irritated me.
- 13:00SPEAKER_00: I was already, you know, fussy, already like they say, like fussy, irrit, irritated, because the speech, I wrote down a great speech.
- 13:07SPEAKER_00: I did.
- 13:07SPEAKER_00: It was an outstanding speech.
- 13:09SPEAKER_00: I just couldn't read off the teleprompter, so I'm gonna work on that.
- 13:12SPEAKER_00: And then coming back home, he called me with that bullshit.
- 13:15SPEAKER_00: That's what it was, it's bullshit.
- 13:17SPEAKER_00: He couldn't call me about anything else.
- 13:18SPEAKER_00: Why we couldn't talk about stocks, you know, um, why we couldn't talk about, you know, a thrift savings plan.
- 13:24SPEAKER_00: Why we couldn't talk about cars, you know.
- 13:26SPEAKER_00: Cars is a safe topic, you know.
- 13:28SPEAKER_00: Talk about cars, motorcycles, you know.
- 13:30SPEAKER_00: You know, he's drawing.
- 13:31SPEAKER_00: Why we couldn't talk about artwork, you know, something easy.
- 13:34SPEAKER_00: He wanted to talk about emotional crap that he knows I'm not well suited for and talking about.
- 13:40SPEAKER_00: But my advice to him was to just leave that chick alone.
- 13:43SPEAKER_00: Um, and find him a new one that will, you know, trust him for the person he is.
- 13:49SPEAKER_00: Because shit, he probably ain't shit anyway, so you know, you never know.
- 13:52SPEAKER_00: You know, I hope he's a good man to women.
- 13:55SPEAKER_00: I mean, we raised him to be a good man to women, but just because I tell him to do it don't mean he's gonna do it.
- 14:01SPEAKER_00: I hope he does it, but we'll see.
- 14:04SPEAKER_00: We'll see.
- 14:05SPEAKER_00: I mean, he seemed like a good kid to me.
- 14:07SPEAKER_00: I raised him, so he's a good kid.
- 14:09SPEAKER_00: But that women problem, just leave him alone.
- 14:13SPEAKER_00: So, based off what I'm saying, hey, I probably need to get a teleprompter in my car to, you know, when someone he calls, he'll prompt the conversation up that I need to talk to him about when he calls so I won't mess it up next time that I give him good advice.
- 14:29SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna look up for that.
- 14:30SPEAKER_00: I know they got the teleprompter select when you AI is important these days.
- 14:34SPEAKER_00: So bam, he called, bullshit problem, bullshit answer come up.
- 14:39SPEAKER_00: I'll read off the teleprompter and give it to them.
- 14:41SPEAKER_00: They probably can put it in my glasses.
- 14:42SPEAKER_00: You know, they got the AI glass, you can see stuff in your glasses now, so I can talk to him about it and keep going forward.
- 14:48SPEAKER_00: So until next time, thank you for listening and rocking with me.
- 14:53SPEAKER_00: Um, all your comments and your shares, thank you.
- 14:56SPEAKER_00: I'm still getting comment suggestions through email that I'm gonna wrap back and email the people back and try to get you some different um actual comments and shares on it so we can get next to every film.
- 15:07SPEAKER_00: So topic suggestions, so comments, shares, and topic suggestions are always encouraged.
- 15:11SPEAKER_00: So thank you for all the comments and the shares.
- 15:14SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 15:15SPEAKER_00: Unstripped after 40, the podcast.
- 15:17SPEAKER_00: Unedit, unrehearse, real talk from real people.
- 15:20SPEAKER_00: Until next time, I'm gonna work on that teleprompter thing.
