The teleprompter looks so simple from the audience until you’re the one standing there trying to keep up. I’m fresh off a last-minute speaking request, feeling good about my written speech, and then the teleprompter starts moving like it’s in a race. My delivery falls apart, my confidence takes hits, and I end up doing what a lot of us do when the plan collapses: I stop reading and just wing it.
