- 0:58this next episode.
- 1:03Hey friends, welcome to this week's Midweek Reset.
- 1:07I'm your host, Lori Grimes, and this is your chance to pause in
- 1:11the middle of this busy week and take a deep breath and
- 1:15refocus on what matters most. So on Monday,
- 1:18we talked about simplifying our lives. We're not talking about just owning
- 1:22fewer things, but we're talking about simplifying our
- 1:25schedules and our expectations, the commitments
- 1:29that we're making, and learning to embrace contentment
- 1:33instead of constantly and constantly chasing more and more.
- 1:36Today, I want to take that conversation one step deeper because
- 1:41before we simplify our lives, We've got to simplify what
- 1:45we're allowing into our hearts. So Proverbs 4:23
- 1:49says, above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows
- 1:54from it. So I love that Solomon is saying above all
- 1:57else. In other words, this isn't just another good idea,
- 2:01right? It's a priority because whatever we repeatedly allow in our
- 2:05hearts eventually shapes how we think and
- 2:09what we're going to desire or or how we're going to respond to something and
- 2:13ultimately how our lives play out. So think about everything
- 2:17we consume in a normal day. We have things like social media,
- 2:21we have the news, we have advertisements constantly, right?
- 2:25We have podcasts like this one. We have television and emails
- 2:29and texts and conversations. We have constant comparison and
- 2:33our brains are constantly taking in information.
- 2:37Sometimes it's encouraging us, Sometimes we're
- 2:41feeling inspired by it, but some of it is quietly whispering
- 2:45to us that we need more, or we're behind, or you're
- 2:49not doing enough. And, or how about this one? Everyone else has figured
- 2:53it out. And before we know it, we've lost our peace
- 2:57again, not because our circumstances have changed, but because what
- 3:01we're feeding our hearts has changed. So sometimes we spend
- 3:06so so much time decluttering our homes that we forget
- 3:10to declutter our minds. If we're always consuming messages that
- 3:14tell us we need a bigger house, a better body, we need more money,
- 3:18we need more success and more experiences or a
- 3:22perfect family, contentment becomes almost impossible,
- 3:25right? And our hearts weren't designed to carry all of that.
- 3:29So Paul gives us a beautiful filter in Philippians 4:8. Finally,
- 3:33brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is
- 3:36noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure,
- 3:40whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable— if
- 3:44anything is excellent or praiseworthy— think about
- 3:48such things. Notice he doesn't say to
- 3:52think about everything. He tells us what is deserving
- 3:56of our attention, not because God is trying to limit us,
- 3:59but because he's trying to protect our peace. So what
- 4:04we repeatedly focus on becomes the atmosphere
- 4:08of our minds. If we are constantly feeding
- 4:13comparison, we're gonna struggle with contentment, guys.
- 4:17If we are constantly feeding our minds fear,
- 4:21we're going to struggle with peace. It's just going to
- 4:24happen. If we're constantly feeding gratitude and
- 4:29truth, those things begin to grow and take root instead.
- 4:34So here's your midweek reset. Do a simple heart audit today.
- 4:38Ask yourself, what am I allowing into my heart that's stealing my
- 4:42peace? Is there an account I need to unfollow on
- 4:45social media? Or how about a news cycle that
- 4:49I just need to pause or take a break from? Is there a voice
- 4:53I'm listening to that is leaving me discouraged and instead
- 4:57of feeling encouraged and inspired? Or maybe it's
- 5:01not something to remove, maybe it's something you need to add. Like, I need more
- 5:05time in God's Word. Start with like 5 minutes a day. Or how
- 5:09about adding a worship playlist to your drive
- 5:12at work? Or take a walk without your phone.
- 5:16Or how about just a quiet moment to pray before our day takes off?
- 5:20So these small changes in what we consume is going to create
- 5:24big changes in what we're carrying around. So remember, guarding your heart
- 5:29isn't about fear, it's about wisdom, guys.
- 5:32It's about choosing what shapes you instead of letting the world shape
- 5:37you by default. So as you go through the rest of this week, ask yourself
- 5:40one simple question: is what I'm allowing into
- 5:44my heart helping me become more content,
- 5:47more peaceful, and more like Christ? If the answer is
- 5:51no, maybe it's time to create a healthy boundary there because
- 5:55everything you do, friends, flows from your heart.
- 5:59So I want you to continue to remember that as you go into
- 6:02the rest of your week. Hey friend, I hope you enjoyed
