The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001) | Ep. 67 - Part 1
Peter Jackson convinced Hollywood to fund three epic films at once, then filmed them back-to-back in New Zealand. Madness, and it changed cinema. John, Westy, and Matt begin the journey to Middle-earth.
In Part 1 we cover the film's opening, director Peter Jackson, the cast, and the second act — exploring how a low-budget horror director made a fantasy epic that satisfied Tolkien purists and mainstream audiences alike. After second breakfast, of course.
Part 2, covering the crew, the finale, reception, and the film's legacy, is available now.
