- 0:33Speaker 2: Let's get into it.
- 0:34Speaker 3: She's on the Money, She's on the Money.
- 0:57Speaker 4: Hello, and welcome to She's on the Money, the podcast

- 1:11Speaker 4: we're going to be sharing our favorite money wins with
- 1:13Speaker 4: Miss Jess Chi. Miss bech say Ed is back for
- 1:17Speaker 4: some broque tips. We're going to be helping to answer
- 1:19Speaker 4: a juicy money dilemma, which this week is all about
- 1:23Speaker 4: buying in bulk.
- 1:24Speaker 2: Which I feel like Jess is going to be.
- 1:27Speaker 4: And we're going to be unpacking something that you slid
- 1:29Speaker 4: into our DMS about this week, we're talking about relationship equity.
- 1:34Speaker 4: So to kick off this episode, my friends, Beck, Yes,
- 1:38Speaker 4: you went present last week, so you get to go first.
- 1:41Speaker 2: How have your last two weeks been? Well? Yeah, I
- 1:44Speaker 2: really hope my shoulder and it's like the whole back
- 1:48Speaker 2: of the head and back of the shoulder. But I
- 1:51Speaker 2: feel so much better now. But the last few weeks
- 1:53Speaker 2: have been good. It was my birthday, thank you so much,
- 1:57Speaker 2: cancer queen, actually thirtieth of July. Yeah, right on the
- 2:06Speaker 2: close to I didn't have to share my star signs.
- 2:08Speaker 2: So that's okay. Oh, true, that would have been strange
- 2:12Speaker 2: to cancers in the one yeah studio. No, it would
- 2:15Speaker 2: have worked. It would have worked.
- 2:16Speaker 5: There are literally to cancer the cancer.
- 2:21Speaker 2: Yeah, your cancer is our producer of cancer. No, she's
- 2:25Speaker 2: on the cusp? Are you want the cusp? June seven eight?
- 2:31Speaker 2: Very much, very much a Gemini, I see we're all
- 2:34Speaker 2: very close.
- 2:36Speaker 4: Oh.
- 2:38Speaker 2: I don't know what that means, but it sounds.
- 2:40Speaker 5: I just know that I'm the cancer, and I just
- 2:42Speaker 5: know that makes us emotional, which checks out, which story
- 2:44Speaker 5: checks out because his cry oh that's so sweet.
- 2:48Speaker 4: It's not it's not bad Barbie movie tears. Oh god,
- 2:53Speaker 4: food that tastes really good, tears like just you can't
- 2:57Speaker 4: stop it.
- 2:57Speaker 2: I love that. I feel like crying is one of
- 2:59Speaker 2: the my favorite activities. So, you know, absolutely depressing. What
- 3:04Speaker 2: did you do for your birthday? Oh birthday? I had
- 3:07Speaker 2: a little party, A little party, A little party at
- 3:10Speaker 2: a pub, one of my favorite pubs. Eighties for anyone listening,
- 3:12Speaker 2: maybe if you maybe no.
- 3:13Speaker 5: Eighties the thing a few weeks ago I did, I mention.
- 3:16Speaker 2: I eight free so water. That's exactly That's exactly why
- 3:22Speaker 2: I go there. That's how you start a party. That's
- 3:25Speaker 2: exactly right my birthday. Surely people are buying. Oh, I know,
- 3:30Speaker 2: I really should have taken it. I was shocked by
- 3:31Speaker 2: how many people offered me a drink. Well, my drink
- 3:33Speaker 2: doesn't cost any money, so this is really really a shame.
- 3:36Speaker 2: But it was really good. It is a really good
- 3:38Speaker 2: A couple of weeks and I went a couple of
- 3:40Speaker 2: dates with someone, which is and then yeah, well, you know,
- 3:44Speaker 2: who knows that we might get married and maybe maybe
- 3:47Speaker 2: we won't, but start looking likely that we're going to
- 3:49Speaker 2: get married and have children. Love. Yeah, you know, you
- 3:53Speaker 2: just go I'm really manifesting. Yeah, that's just going to
- 3:56Speaker 2: you hole it. Just in case she's listening, I'm I
- 3:58Speaker 2: promise I'm joking. Also, no one knows who I'm talking about.
- 4:01Speaker 2: So anyway, do we do because we was cute? Definitely?
- 4:04Speaker 2: Do I like your instagram? Is she good enough for
- 4:07Speaker 2: our back?
- 4:09Speaker 4: My good enough?
- 4:10Speaker 2: Anyway? Onto The question is not are you good enough?
- 4:13Speaker 2: Are they good enough for you? What can you do
- 4:16Speaker 2: for me? Is the question? I mean that's not what
- 4:19Speaker 2: I was getting. Did you go on any dates this week?
- 4:24Speaker 2: I didn't, sadly, I mean, you're in a long term relationship.
- 4:30Speaker 2: That's cute.
- 4:31Speaker 5: We cooked Moley spin together. I was like, as a day,
- 4:34Speaker 5: my week was good. My car is currently at the
- 4:37Speaker 5: mechanic extremely overdrew, so everyone, I just have a bad
- 4:45Speaker 5: feeling about it.
- 4:46Speaker 4: But do you have a bad feeling about it because
- 4:48Speaker 4: of what I did with my car last week?
- 4:50Speaker 2: Is that? Yeah?
- 4:51Speaker 5: That's actually what made me check miney because mine is
- 4:54Speaker 5: about six months over jew and then your car corked
- 4:57Speaker 5: it and I was like, oh what.
- 4:59Speaker 4: Haven't you so long story short, I took my car
- 5:03Speaker 4: to the mechanic and it was just for a scheduled service.
- 5:06Speaker 4: I thought I was doing the Lord's work by doing
- 5:09Speaker 4: it on time, and I drop it off and they said,
- 5:11Speaker 4: oh v this is wrong, this is wrong, and this
- 5:14Speaker 4: is wrong. And it was our like the car that
- 5:17Speaker 4: my husband and I share, so he mainly drives it.
- 5:20Speaker 4: I drive it sometimes if I'm like picking up Jessica
- 5:22Speaker 4: and need to impress her and take my dog somewhere.
- 5:25Speaker 4: And they told me that the battery needed fixing. But
- 5:28Speaker 4: it's like some fancy type of battery. Anyone listening is
- 5:31Speaker 4: going to be like, Victoria, you're so daft, and I'll
- 5:33Speaker 4: be like, yes, I am sorry, but it's like this
- 5:36Speaker 4: fancy battery that like there's a battery under the seat
- 5:38Speaker 4: as well as in the hood. And so they quoted
- 5:41Speaker 4: me like a ridiculous amount to fix it, and I
- 5:43Speaker 4: was like, I'm going to get a second opinion. And
- 5:47Speaker 4: what they say, they said, you can go get a
- 5:50Speaker 4: second opinion.
- 5:51Speaker 2: That's so fine.
- 5:52Speaker 4: This is just like a really expensive battery to replace
- 5:54Speaker 4: across the board, like we haven't really added much labor.
- 5:57Speaker 2: And I'm sitting there being.
- 5:58Speaker 4: Like yeah, sure, yeah, sure, no worries, and they're like,
- 6:02Speaker 4: just be aware that the battery will work today, but
- 6:04Speaker 4: when we tested it, it's like got failed cells in
- 6:07Speaker 4: it or whatever that means, and it could just not
- 6:10Speaker 4: work at any time, right, trying to scare me.
- 6:15Speaker 2: The next week, Jessica, what happened?
- 6:17Speaker 5: Car didn't work, cutting work, in fact, did not work
- 6:20Speaker 5: at any given time, exactly like.
- 6:24Speaker 2: What they said. And when I got second opinions, Beck,
- 6:27Speaker 2: you know what happened?
- 6:28Speaker 4: More expensive everywhere else because I wanted to charge labor
- 6:31Speaker 4: as well.
- 6:31Speaker 2: I see, so I should have just done it the
- 6:33Speaker 2: first time. She's too late to go back and ask
- 6:36Speaker 2: for the exact same quote.
- 6:37Speaker 4: Thankfully, I have fostered a great relationship with the mechanic
- 6:40Speaker 4: and I text him and I said himitch in a
- 6:43Speaker 4: twist of fate that you saw coming no longer starts,
- 6:48Speaker 4: and he said, just drop it in and fixed today.
- 6:51Speaker 4: I said, that is very kind of you.
- 6:53Speaker 2: Thank you, Sorry for calling you a liar and a thief.
- 6:57Speaker 2: And I'm back, I did.
- 7:01Speaker 4: Car services are so expensive, and you know when they
- 7:03Speaker 4: come back with like all these additional things, I'm like,
- 7:06Speaker 4: are you looking at me? Going You're a silly little
- 7:09Speaker 4: white girl who doesn't know anything about anything? And I
- 7:13Speaker 4: don't know I don't know anything about anything.
- 7:17Speaker 2: How we got in trouble right.
- 7:19Speaker 5: It was very funny though, because I drove because obviously
- 7:21Speaker 5: you needed to get back home, so I drove with
- 7:23Speaker 5: you there and bribed her.
- 7:25Speaker 2: We did do a macis running the way home.
- 7:26Speaker 4: I said, if you drop me at the mechanics, oh,
- 7:30Speaker 4: buy you a happy meal?
- 7:32Speaker 2: Oh that's nice, and I said immediately yes obviously of course.
- 7:34Speaker 2: Did you get a Griomas shake?
- 7:36Speaker 5: No?
- 7:36Speaker 2: Sorry, continued, what's a Grimmer's shake? Have you guys? This
- 7:42Speaker 2: thing on? TI took right, but I don't really know. Yes,
- 7:45Speaker 2: it is that purple like shake. Oh vile? Absolutely not.
- 7:48Speaker 2: Do they have that here? I have no idea. Jesse
- 7:50Speaker 2: gets six nuggets, six nuggets because I had a toy. Yeah,
- 7:54Speaker 2: we have the to toy. Silly. Absolutely. Have you ever
- 7:57Speaker 2: seen a person with a happy meal not being happy?
- 8:00Speaker 2: H a single person? Actually, that's what I think of it.
- 8:03Speaker 5: Yeah, to wrap it up, the mechanic said that that
- 8:05Speaker 5: was the equivalent of a walk of shame.
- 8:08Speaker 4: I'm walking in and he's like it beat sassy, like
- 8:12Speaker 4: in a funny way.
- 8:13Speaker 2: He was a nice guy, so he wasn't being rude.
- 8:15Speaker 4: He's like, just you know this is the equivalent of
- 8:17Speaker 4: a walk of shame, and I was like, thank you,
- 8:20Speaker 4: kind sir.
- 8:21Speaker 5: I'm going to call it him money win though, because
- 8:22Speaker 5: he didn't charge you anymore even though you did infaction.
- 8:25Speaker 2: I listen to him the first time.
- 8:26Speaker 4: Yeah, I think I think he now knows he's got
- 8:29Speaker 4: a client for life. Yeah, because I was kind of like,
- 8:32Speaker 4: thanks for looking.
- 8:33Speaker 2: After me, but your entire life. I owe him every
- 8:37Speaker 2: car service into eternity. Yes, sorry, you'll say something. You're
- 8:41Speaker 2: carving all right the shop.
- 8:46Speaker 4: Sorry, I hope and prayers are going out to Jessica
- 8:49Speaker 4: that her car doesn't end up like my car, and
- 8:52Speaker 4: if it does, she just takes the advice.
- 8:54Speaker 2: Yeah, you'll be listening to my mechanic.
- 8:56Speaker 4: Yeah, don't do what Victoria did. But do you know
- 8:59Speaker 4: what we should get into is the community money wins.
- 9:01Speaker 4: Mister Scricci, what have you round up for us this week?
- 9:04Speaker 5: My first money in this week comes from Lucy, who
- 9:07Speaker 5: said money win sort of. I'm no longer living pay
- 9:10Speaker 5: to pay. I have plenty left over each fortnight, even
- 9:13Speaker 5: after putting away savings and some investing. After living as
- 9:16Speaker 5: a single mum for ten years. This is a massive
- 9:18Speaker 5: thing for me. Financial stress has had a huge impact
- 9:22Speaker 5: on my mental health. Love and over one hundred people
- 9:25Speaker 5: were liking and commenting on that, and I was just
- 9:27Speaker 5: loving seeing people get behind her. Good on you, Lucy.
- 9:30Speaker 5: My next money win comes from Ashley, who said, to
- 9:33Speaker 5: prove a point to my friends, I just calculated the
- 9:35Speaker 5: cost benefit of my health insurance premiums for extras is
- 9:38Speaker 5: eight hundred and forty three dollars seventy per year. However,
- 9:40Speaker 5: I can claim up to thirty four hundred dollars every year.
- 9:43Speaker 5: I max out several of the categories, meaning I use
- 9:45Speaker 5: a maximum of seventeen fifty. This doesn't factor in how
- 9:48Speaker 5: much I save on the Medicare Levey surcharge as well.
- 9:50Speaker 5: I knew my health insurance was worth it because I
- 9:52Speaker 5: use it a lot, but I'd never crunch the numbers.
- 9:55Speaker 5: And I just love the idea of someone running the
- 9:56Speaker 5: mass like it's not going to be the same, but
- 9:58Speaker 5: everyone it's going to depend on what you use and
- 9:59Speaker 5: what you need.
- 10:00Speaker 2: I also love that it was like because she wanted yeah, yeah,
- 10:03Speaker 2: I took.
- 10:05Speaker 4: I was like, that's why I calculate things too, Actually,
- 10:08Speaker 4: you are our people.
- 10:09Speaker 5: My next money win comes from Anthea, who said My
- 10:12Speaker 5: money win this week is I simply talked to my
- 10:14Speaker 5: husband out of going out for brunch on Sunday money loss.
- 10:17Speaker 5: I forgot my lunch, so I'm currently waiting for my
- 10:18Speaker 5: boat lunch to be warmed up.
- 10:21Speaker 2: But we won't telling him that.
- 10:22Speaker 1: I know.
- 10:24Speaker 4: Between two hundred and fifty on the money community members
- 10:28Speaker 4: and you they have now the field.
- 10:30Speaker 5: Next, I've got a money in from Lauren who said
- 10:32Speaker 5: I got a rain check. I've never done it before,
- 10:35Speaker 5: but I was in Calls and my preferred washing powder
- 10:37Speaker 5: was out of stock and on sale for fifty percent off.
- 10:40Speaker 5: I asked a staff member who was stacking the shelves
- 10:42Speaker 5: nearby if they had more out the back or elsewhere
- 10:44Speaker 5: in the store, and she scanned it and said they
- 10:46Speaker 5: didn't have any and to go to the front desk
- 10:48Speaker 5: for a rain check. So now I have a rain
- 10:50Speaker 5: check in my wallet for two boxes of washing powder
- 10:52Speaker 5: fifty percent off for next time. What And I wonder
- 10:55Speaker 5: if split that and do like one f and then
- 10:58Speaker 5: hold on that rain check.
- 11:00Speaker 2: Yeah, that could be a money.
- 11:03Speaker 5: I was intending on buying five and then just spread
- 11:05Speaker 5: it out for the next half of many months.
- 11:07Speaker 2: Oh, that's such a good idea.
- 11:08Speaker 5: I don't know if that works or not. Someone let
- 11:10Speaker 5: us know it's worth the crack. My next money wind
- 11:12Speaker 5: comes from Juliet, who said money win. I won a
- 11:15Speaker 5: v cap case and I'm getting back a total of
- 11:17Speaker 5: two thousand, five hundred.
- 11:18Speaker 2: And four dollars from my landlord, Spicy. We'll love to
- 11:21Speaker 2: see it. Please no fighting in the comment.
- 11:26Speaker 4: Please no fighting in the comments, but also please slide
- 11:29Speaker 4: into our DMS and let us know why.
- 11:31Speaker 2: Because we need the date, We need the juice. Do
- 11:34Speaker 2: you want? We need to know what you guys want
- 11:36Speaker 2: to be shaking for that tea? She's ready.
- 11:39Speaker 5: And lastly, I have a money lost from simone, which
- 11:42Speaker 5: I thought might play into what we're chatting about a
- 11:44Speaker 5: little bit later, she said money loss. My partner turns
- 11:47Speaker 5: the heat around in our bedroom each morning before going
- 11:50Speaker 5: to work. Past three work days, he's left it on
- 11:53Speaker 5: all day, so it's boiling when I get home, and
- 11:55Speaker 5: our electricity provider is loving it, but my wallet not
- 11:58Speaker 5: so much. Yes, I'm going to hide the remote on
- 12:00Speaker 5: him so he can no longer use it.
- 12:03Speaker 2: We've all been there. We've all been there. Do you
- 12:06Speaker 2: hide things in your house from your partner? Jessica.
- 12:09Speaker 5: He has a tendency to open multiple Natala's at once,
- 12:12Speaker 5: So if he's running low on Natalla and I buy
- 12:14Speaker 5: a new one, I hide the new one until the
- 12:15Speaker 5: old one's finished because it drives me nuts like it
- 12:18Speaker 5: is like it is, so I have to open at
- 12:21Speaker 5: the same time to open in our pantry currently, And
- 12:24Speaker 5: I like, why do.
- 12:25Speaker 2: You keep buying Ntella?
- 12:27Speaker 5: I don't know, he doesn't want he goes to the
- 12:29Speaker 5: grocery store.
- 12:29Speaker 2: But anyway, absolutely not. So that was so fun of
- 12:32Speaker 2: mine for you that before.
- 12:34Speaker 5: Yesterday you see me getting angry.
- 12:39Speaker 2: This is what you've got.
- 12:40Speaker 4: If this is exactly what you've got to look forward
- 12:42Speaker 4: to back in your long term relationship that you're getting,
- 12:45Speaker 4: I'm very yes, seriously, we have ice cube tray fights,
- 12:53Speaker 4: so yeah, not feeling it up. Don't if you're gonna
- 12:56Speaker 4: use the ice but you have another ice specially I know.
- 13:00Speaker 4: But the ice cubes are bigger than this. Look different
- 13:03Speaker 4: ice cubes of different situations.
- 13:05Speaker 2: Yes, sure, yeah, wow.
- 13:07Speaker 5: But if you get to use the ice tribes, yeah,
- 13:10Speaker 5: you fill them out. Oh absolutely, they're the rules unless
- 13:12Speaker 5: you're a guest, in which case you don't need to.
- 13:14Speaker 5: You can just help yourself. But is my husband and
- 13:16Speaker 5: guest in this house.
- 13:17Speaker 2: Absolutely not. He pays half the mortgage, so absolutely not.
- 13:21Speaker 2: This is your house to fill up the ice. Let's
- 13:23Speaker 2: move on.
- 13:23Speaker 4: I want to know your break tips before Jess and
- 13:25Speaker 4: I write on our partners.
- 13:26Speaker 2: Well, funny you say, Jess about the coal thing. Oh,
- 13:31Speaker 2: because a few people actually sent me that that wasn't
- 13:33Speaker 2: actually going to be mentioned this week. But since you
- 13:35Speaker 2: mentioned it, I'm going to say that that's actually a
- 13:38Speaker 2: really really good break tip. If yeah, if something runs out,
- 13:41Speaker 2: then you can I don't know, do you go to
- 13:42Speaker 2: the front at in front of the store and you
- 13:44Speaker 2: sa tell them to give you a little voucher? Can
- 13:46Speaker 2: you give you a little vucher? That's something I want
- 13:48Speaker 2: to know. If you can do like twenty in one go.
- 13:50Speaker 4: You recom there, it's a timeline on it, like with
- 13:52Speaker 4: your little voucher that has to be redeemed before xby
- 13:55Speaker 4: zed even if you.
- 13:56Speaker 2: Do have to redeem them more ones. If you have
- 13:57Speaker 2: the money, then you have like a bowl. This is
- 14:03Speaker 2: such a weird coincidence. Circular circular.
- 14:07Speaker 4: We were talking about ntella and ice cubes, which does
- 14:10Speaker 4: lead to relationship equity.
- 14:12Speaker 2: But we'll get to that later. Yes's true. So my
- 14:14Speaker 2: first breake tip for this week comes from Grace has
- 14:17Speaker 2: said that when she was super poor, she would steam
- 14:19Speaker 2: a sugar a sugar part of rice than by the
- 14:25Speaker 2: continental copper soups, continental cup of soup when they were
- 14:28Speaker 2: half price, and then she would heat them all together
- 14:32Speaker 2: and a container, add a cup of soup on top,
- 14:33Speaker 2: and that would be her version of a poor person's rosotto.
- 14:37Speaker 2: Does that sound like it makes sense to you, guys?
- 14:39Speaker 2: Maybe it made absolutely no sense.
- 14:41Speaker 4: So you see how she pre cooks the rice rosotto
- 14:45Speaker 4: out of them with a cup of soup exactly. Okay,
- 14:47Speaker 4: So it's a quote unquote poor persons rosotto, which sounds
- 14:52Speaker 4: to me absolutely delicious. So I think that you need
- 14:56Speaker 4: to hack it a bit more, though, Grace, because I
- 14:59Speaker 4: would want to cook the.
- 15:01Speaker 5: Rice in the soup mix so that like the flavors were.
- 15:06Speaker 2: Whiskey whisk around, but you would have to boil the
- 15:09Speaker 2: rice first so that it doesn't dilute what flavor. So
- 15:14Speaker 2: you cook the rice and then you add your steamed
- 15:17Speaker 2: cup of soup inside the rice, so now it's just
- 15:22Speaker 2: soup with rice. Grace, if you're listening to this, I
- 15:26Speaker 2: am so excited to try this. I'll report back for sure,
- 15:32Speaker 2: and you can use as little or as much liquid
- 15:34Speaker 2: as you like. It's up to you. I think that's
- 15:36Speaker 2: my on sale cup of soup dirt cheap.
- 15:38Speaker 4: And do you know what you're not going to put
- 15:40Speaker 4: on your rice? Because I saw it at the supermarket
- 15:42Speaker 4: this week, bag of shredded cheese eleven dollars.
- 15:47Speaker 5: I saw a TikTok chips were two for eleven and
- 15:50Speaker 5: literally two bags of chips for eleven dollars, and they like.
- 15:53Speaker 4: I don't care what size that is. That is the
- 15:55Speaker 4: use feavery for five? Absolutely not the popcorns two for five?
- 15:59Speaker 4: Is it steal two for five on popcorn?
- 16:01Speaker 2: No idea.
- 16:02Speaker 4: We've got to we've got to look into this. But
- 16:04Speaker 4: we're not putting cheese on Arizona anymore. Boy, cheese eleven
- 16:08Speaker 4: dollars a bag of straighted cheese absolutely not crazy. You're
- 16:11Speaker 4: going vegan, We're gonna follow in your footsteps.
- 16:13Speaker 2: Thing, It's gonna be great. Maybe that's a good break tip.
- 16:16Speaker 2: Maybe that is a good breaked vegan. So the next
- 16:20Speaker 2: one comes from Sabrina, who suggests that and this is
- 16:22Speaker 2: a very real reality for a lot of people if
- 16:25Speaker 2: you do not have an iron in your home, if
- 16:28Speaker 2: you can't afford an iron, you don't want to, you
- 16:29Speaker 2: don't have room for an iron, you've lived in a
- 16:31Speaker 2: small house. I think some people can relate out there.
- 16:34Speaker 1: I don't.
- 16:34Speaker 2: I certainly can, just wouldn't ever use an iron iron.
- 16:37Speaker 2: I don't know an iron either, and there have been
- 16:39Speaker 2: times where literally couldn't fit one or afford one. Yep.
- 16:44Speaker 2: Fair So she has said that what you can do
- 16:46Speaker 2: is if you have a hot shower, you pop your
- 16:48Speaker 2: clothes in the hot shower, but not in shower, in
- 16:50Speaker 2: the water in the bathroom. In the time, steam will
- 16:54Speaker 2: get rid of the wrinkles, just like a commercial steamer
- 16:56Speaker 2: used in shops. So yet you say power, ridge, space
- 17:00Speaker 2: and dollars to buy the iron slash ironing board, which
- 17:03Speaker 2: is a great idea something I use. And this is
- 17:05Speaker 2: also if you actually do have access to a hair dryer,
- 17:08Speaker 2: hair dry we'll use the hair dryer too as well. Yeah,
- 17:10Speaker 2: what do you use, Jess?
- 17:11Speaker 5: I have a steamer because I worked retail, So I
- 17:14Speaker 5: just I can't like. Once I use the steamer, I
- 17:16Speaker 5: was like, my life has changed forever, and so I
- 17:18Speaker 5: never go back. But I like VD taught me this one.
- 17:20Speaker 5: If you when you wash certain fabrics, like a lot
- 17:23Speaker 5: of natural fabrics, particularly after you wash it, give it
- 17:26Speaker 5: a once.
- 17:29Speaker 2: You got to shake it out.
- 17:30Speaker 5: Shake because they come out of the wash really wrinkly.
- 17:33Speaker 5: But you can actually if you shake it out before
- 17:35Speaker 5: you hang it, it dries significantly less wrinkled.
- 17:38Speaker 4: Yeah, Like I like real tug on the collars of
- 17:41Speaker 4: things to like flatten them out before they dry.
- 17:45Speaker 2: Yeah, and it works. That's a great So maybe you
- 17:47Speaker 2: pair that with the shower and you get air and
- 17:49Speaker 2: you've got yourself shirt. You absolutely don't even need it.
- 17:54Speaker 4: No, great tip, Thank you, Sabrina.
- 17:58Speaker 2: I love that. I love that great And then all
- 18:01Speaker 2: you've got what's yours? That's from the community. My personal
- 18:04Speaker 2: break tip is, I know I know exactly what it is.
- 18:08Speaker 2: I think you know what it is.
- 18:09Speaker 4: I know exactly, but you may or may not have
- 18:11Speaker 4: seen me eating this What do you mean, may or
- 18:12Speaker 4: may not have it all over?
- 18:15Speaker 2: And I haven't actually had shorts. Yeah, I didn't realize.
- 18:19Speaker 2: It's like, oh you might have noticed. It was hard
- 18:21Speaker 2: not to. So what I do is I buy myself
- 18:25Speaker 2: like a either you can make spaghetti or you can
- 18:27Speaker 2: buy a spaghetti, whatever you want to do. And then
- 18:29Speaker 2: if you want like a really cheap version of garlic bread,
- 18:32Speaker 2: cheap that will last you a long time, maybe the
- 18:35Speaker 2: whole week, maybe two weeks. A loaf of bread. I
- 18:38Speaker 2: love my loads of bread. In this segment, Syle and aliaway,
- 18:46Speaker 2: is that what they do.
- 18:48Speaker 5: So they used to make I don't know if they
- 18:49Speaker 5: used to do. Used to have to get cheesy garlic
- 18:51Speaker 5: bread at Subway when I worked retail and I was poor,
- 18:54Speaker 5: because they did a special. It's like two dollars for
- 18:55Speaker 5: a cheesey garlic bread and it would be like the
- 18:57Speaker 5: subway roll cut in half and they put like the garlicoli,
- 19:00Speaker 5: sauce and cheese on.
- 19:01Speaker 2: Topo that sounds really really good.
- 19:04Speaker 5: Eleven dollar cheese not so much, but aoli true and
- 19:07Speaker 5: you just like you toast the bread, don't even need
- 19:09Speaker 5: to put butter or anything, and you get really facts
- 19:11Speaker 5: from the mayo.
- 19:12Speaker 2: Totally cheap aoli, the cheapest one you can find, the
- 19:16Speaker 2: cheapest bread you can find. Toast the bread, chuck the
- 19:19Speaker 2: aoli on. You've put yourself.
- 19:20Speaker 4: Garlic bread, yeah, just before, and to make it even
- 19:24Speaker 4: cheaper today?
- 19:25Speaker 2: Did you even pay for the bread today? No, I
- 19:27Speaker 2: didn't stole it from the kitchen. Kitchen stunning. That's so good.
- 19:31Speaker 5: Cheap lunch that isn't stealing when it's meant for everybody
- 19:34Speaker 5: into communal kitchen.
- 19:35Speaker 2: Communal.
- 19:36Speaker 4: It feels better when you say it's stolen.
- 19:38Speaker 2: It does there's something more? Stole it from the kitchen? Yeah,
- 19:42Speaker 2: that's it's a bit satisfying. Yeah, steal it, but money weird?
- 19:46Speaker 2: That's that for this week.
- 19:47Speaker 4: I would never have thought to make garlic bread with aoli,
- 19:51Speaker 4: but I can see how it would work when you
- 19:53Speaker 4: are out of options and.
- 19:55Speaker 2: Or you've worked at subway, it seems, or you've worked
- 19:57Speaker 2: at Subway. Yes, it turns out it's not so broke
- 20:00Speaker 2: after all. I love it. But good tip, good tip.
- 20:02Speaker 4: All right, let's go to a really quick break and
- 20:04Speaker 4: on the flip side, we're going to be talking about
- 20:06Speaker 4: one of Jess Richie's favorite tips, and that's bulk buying.
- 20:09Speaker 4: The second thing we're going to talk about is something
- 20:11Speaker 4: that you slid into our DMS about which we're going
- 20:13Speaker 4: to be speaking all about relationship equity this week, So guys,
- 20:17Speaker 4: do not go anywhere.
- 20:23Speaker 2: Welcome back, everybody. Let's talk about this week's money dilemma. Hi, there,
- 20:28Speaker 2: have you got a.
- 20:29Speaker 4: Money dilemma you just can't solve. The Sheese on the
- 20:31Speaker 4: Money team is here to help. Every week, we tackle
- 20:35Speaker 4: your dilemmas, both big and small, to answer your most
- 20:37Speaker 4: burning money.
- 20:38Speaker 2: Career and life questions.
- 20:40Speaker 4: To get involved, simply head to our website and leave
- 20:42Speaker 4: us a short voice recording and you might just find
- 20:44Speaker 4: yourself on the show. Now, let's take a listen to
- 20:47Speaker 4: this week's money dilemma.
- 20:52Speaker 3: Hi, ladies. My question is in regards to buying things
- 20:57Speaker 3: in bulk. So there's a lot of products that I
- 20:59Speaker 3: really enjoy, and a lot of them it's much much
- 21:03Speaker 3: cheaper to buy several or a ten pac or something
- 21:07Speaker 3: like that, and I know that I'm going to use them,
- 21:10Speaker 3: but they are things that take a while to use,
- 21:13Speaker 3: like bars of soap and stuff like that, and you
- 21:16Speaker 3: don't really need to have twny bars of soap in
- 21:19Speaker 3: your cupboard. So I'm just asking how to resist the
- 21:23Speaker 3: urge to buy things in bulk and should I be
- 21:26Speaker 3: buying them in bulk? Yeah? Thank you.
- 21:29Speaker 2: That is such a wholesome, funny question. I think it is.
- 21:32Speaker 4: I mean, if you're planning for an apocalypse twenty bars
- 21:34Speaker 4: of soap might actually be very necessary.
- 21:37Speaker 5: If you want to feel better about yourself, watch Extreme
- 21:40Speaker 5: couponas because you'll be like, oh, I'm really not buying
- 21:42Speaker 5: in bulk if I'm buying my soap.
- 21:44Speaker 2: I cannot stand that show.
- 21:48Speaker 4: Oh I love watching it, but I just feel like
- 21:52Speaker 4: there are so many people in need in the world,
- 21:54Speaker 4: and then there are these people who are.
- 21:56Speaker 2: Just stock piling, Like what do you need detgent?
- 22:01Speaker 5: Donate?
- 22:02Speaker 4: Or they why have you got an entire pantry in
- 22:06Speaker 4: your house with stockpiles of things and full stock rotation systems.
- 22:11Speaker 2: In place for them? Sure, Like, I don't know.
- 22:15Speaker 4: I get that you might donate things, but if you're
- 22:18Speaker 4: on extreme coupons, you're not donating that much because you
- 22:20Speaker 4: have a stockpile room at your own house.
- 22:23Speaker 2: I don't know. It's a good point fee, But in
- 22:26Speaker 2: this that's not what this is about.
- 22:27Speaker 4: This it's about buying in bulk and not needing twenty
- 22:30Speaker 4: bars of soap under your sink.
- 22:32Speaker 2: Jessica, do you buy many things in bulk?
- 22:36Speaker 5: I wouldn't say extreme bulk, No, Like I tend to
- 22:39Speaker 5: do if something that I use all the time, like
- 22:40Speaker 5: if laundry detergent is half priced. I tend to buy
- 22:43Speaker 5: two because I'm like, well, I'm paying what I would
- 22:45Speaker 5: pay for one. Like my rule of thumb is I
- 22:47Speaker 5: like to have threes of things.
- 22:50Speaker 2: Threes of things.
- 22:51Speaker 5: I like to have one that's open, backup and a
- 22:53Speaker 5: backup of my backup.
- 22:55Speaker 2: Is that why there are three open ntellas right now? Well,
- 22:59Speaker 2: one of them is open, two of them should be closed.
- 23:02Speaker 5: No, but I just for me, it's like, Okay, so
- 23:04Speaker 5: I finished one off, then I open a new one,
- 23:07Speaker 5: and when that happens, I have one open and one backup,
- 23:09Speaker 5: And so I have plenty of time because I don't
- 23:11Speaker 5: want to pay full price for it, so I have
- 23:13Speaker 5: plenty of time to wait for it to go on
- 23:14Speaker 5: sale before I replace my backup back up.
- 23:19Speaker 2: There's a lot of bit crazy. I think that's really beautiful. Beck,
- 23:25Speaker 2: Do you buy backups? We've all got out little things. No,
- 23:29Speaker 2: I don't really, but I know that my mum used
- 23:32Speaker 2: to buy in bulk, like if something was on special.
- 23:34Speaker 2: It's a clever thing to do. Like if someone something
- 23:36Speaker 2: super cheap, you buy like maybe five of them and
- 23:40Speaker 2: then you have that cheap for a while.
- 23:42Speaker 4: But I think you need to do the maths though, Yeah,
- 23:44Speaker 4: maybe I don't because I would really rather not have
- 23:48Speaker 4: the clutter and pay that it's a.
- 23:51Speaker 2: Luxury to have the space to store the bulk of
- 23:53Speaker 2: the totally where do you put it all?
- 23:55Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, that's me, Like if we've run out of it, Jess,
- 23:58Speaker 4: there's no more in the house, Like, don't ask me
- 24:00Speaker 4: for my backup, there is no backup. It means I
- 24:03Speaker 4: have to go to the supermarket. And yeah, I just
- 24:06Speaker 4: live my life that way, to be wild on the edge,
- 24:10Speaker 4: fit on the edge, especially for someone who has a
- 24:12Speaker 4: backup of a backup.
- 24:13Speaker 2: Yes, I'm eann nervous a little bit.
- 24:16Speaker 4: I could never like, I just don't want clutter in
- 24:19Speaker 4: my house. I'm the type of person that just throws
- 24:21Speaker 4: things away, like not puts them in the bin. Don't
- 24:23Speaker 4: think I'm being wasteful, but I donate stuff if I'm like,
- 24:26Speaker 4: I haven't worn this in ages, get it out of
- 24:28Speaker 4: my wardrobe, get it out of my life. Like I
- 24:30Speaker 4: just don't want junk in my house. I just don't.
- 24:33Speaker 5: I feel like it's worth saying for me and our listener.
- 24:35Speaker 5: It's things she said that you're going to use, Like
- 24:38Speaker 5: I wouldn't have three pairs of the same shoes, you know,
- 24:41Speaker 5: I would, Yeah, but I would have.
- 24:45Speaker 2: But if it's really nice, I'll buy it twice.
- 24:48Speaker 5: If it's nice, bat twice. But things like toilet paper,
- 24:50Speaker 5: cleaning supplies, things like that, I tend to have multiples off.
- 24:54Speaker 5: I wouldn't call having two or three bulk like having
- 24:57Speaker 5: the twenty bars of soap. But I mean, if it's financial,
- 25:00Speaker 5: she said, she run the math and it's cheaper for
- 25:01Speaker 5: her to buy twenty than to buy however many I
- 25:05Speaker 5: know you.
- 25:05Speaker 4: Don't need it in your house, but like, if you've
- 25:07Speaker 4: got the space, what's the problem with saving some money over.
- 25:09Speaker 2: The long term.
- 25:10Speaker 4: I don't think it's a problem. I mean it would
- 25:11Speaker 4: be a problem if you're buying things that you weren't
- 25:13Speaker 4: actively using and just hoarding them. That's a different story completely.
- 25:18Speaker 4: Or you know, I don't think soap goes off, but
- 25:20Speaker 4: like it went off before you could use it.
- 25:23Speaker 5: Yeah, make sure if you're buying in bulk that if
- 25:25Speaker 5: it's a perishable item, that you can use it within
- 25:28Speaker 5: the timeframe, because there's no point having twenty bars of
- 25:30Speaker 5: soap that are cheaper than ten bars of soap if
- 25:32Speaker 5: you only use five of them.
- 25:33Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 25:34Speaker 4: Yeah, I also think it's a really interesting conversation actually
- 25:37Speaker 4: that leans into money.
- 25:39Speaker 2: Stories quite deeply.
- 25:40Speaker 4: Like I grew up in a family where I was
- 25:43Speaker 4: quite privileged and we never went without, and I think
- 25:46Speaker 4: that might play into my not necessity to have backups
- 25:50Speaker 4: and things because I'm like, no, like it's okay, we
- 25:52Speaker 4: can go to the supermarket and we can pick it up.
- 25:54Speaker 4: Whereas you know, I've got no idea about that side
- 25:57Speaker 4: of your money story, Jess, but like I know that
- 25:59Speaker 4: you ways lean towards being a little bit more financially
- 26:02Speaker 4: secure and making secure decisions, and that kind of makes
- 26:05Speaker 4: sense to me that you would lean into always having
- 26:08Speaker 4: a backup of something and being way more prepared than me.
- 26:10Speaker 4: And then Beck, it makes sense the way that you
- 26:13Speaker 4: live your life as well, and that your mum would
- 26:14Speaker 4: have bought things in bulk. I think when it comes
- 26:17Speaker 4: down to it, the important thing about buying in bulk
- 26:19Speaker 4: is that you're not just buying it in bulk because
- 26:21Speaker 4: you assume it's cheaper. You've actually done the maths because true,
- 26:24Speaker 4: do you know how many times? So historically I went
- 26:27Speaker 4: through a phase when I lived with Yes, we've all
- 26:30Speaker 4: been through the costco face, but I was doing the maths,
- 26:33Speaker 4: and it's sometimes not actually cheaper. You just end up
- 26:36Speaker 4: with two bigger bottles of things and it's not that
- 26:39Speaker 4: much cheaper, but you assume it is.
- 26:40Speaker 5: And it's ludicrous to have to pull out this huge,
- 26:43Speaker 5: massive box of corn fakes.
- 26:46Speaker 2: My jumbo super mega but corn.
- 26:48Speaker 4: One liter bottle of ranch.
- 26:53Speaker 5: Yeah, I agree, Like, I think it's not the worst thing.
- 26:55Speaker 5: It's working for you, if you've got the space, you're
- 26:57Speaker 5: using it all. I don't personally don't see it.
- 27:00Speaker 2: I don't see it as a problem either. But maybe
- 27:02Speaker 2: you've done the mass yeah.
- 27:03Speaker 4: And you've actually looked at it and been like, no,
- 27:05Speaker 4: this is something I use and it makes sense. I
- 27:08Speaker 4: actually think that's a smart money decision. I don't think
- 27:11Speaker 4: it's a bad thing. I would like to know more,
- 27:12Speaker 4: Like I have questions, like more about why you think
- 27:15Speaker 4: that might not be productive when it's clearly not the
- 27:17Speaker 4: worst idea ever.
- 27:18Speaker 5: I don't know, as long as it's not financially putting
- 27:20Speaker 5: you out either, like if you're paying the larger amount
- 27:23Speaker 5: for the bulk, like if you can afford it. Agreed,
- 27:25Speaker 5: Life Queen, Live, Lead, Love, Love, I usually love more.
- 27:32Speaker 4: On the same page. Yeah, let's jump into our community dilemma.
- 27:36Speaker 4: So this week we're going to unpack something that you
- 27:38Speaker 4: slid into our DMS about. And this is the DM
- 27:41Speaker 4: that we received this week that we have chosen to
- 27:44Speaker 4: dissect on the podcast.
- 27:45Speaker 2: Are you guys ready, Yeah?
- 27:46Speaker 3: Ready?
- 27:47Speaker 2: Hello? She's on the Money Team.
- 27:49Speaker 4: I need advice on the argument that keeps flowing between
- 27:51Speaker 4: my girlfriend and I. My girlfriend and I have been
- 27:54Speaker 4: in the same sex couple for four years now, and
- 27:56Speaker 4: this is our first time living together. I'm on a
- 27:59Speaker 4: higher paying job than her, so I contribute more to
- 28:02Speaker 4: the bills. She works really hard, but unfortunately her page
- 28:05Speaker 4: just isn't amazing. We keep arguing about having the heater
- 28:09Speaker 4: on because of course it's cold during winter. I really
- 28:11Speaker 4: want to be warm, and she is just super strict
- 28:14Speaker 4: on finances at the moment. I already contribute more than her,
- 28:18Speaker 4: but she gets upset when I have the heating on
- 28:20Speaker 4: because she thinks she won't be able to afford the bills.
- 28:23Speaker 4: I understand things are tired, but I value being comfortable.
- 28:27Speaker 4: I'm really struggling to find a happy medium in this.
- 28:31Speaker 4: Do you feel Jessica is probably not the person to
- 28:35Speaker 4: ask in this situation, And I say, that because her
- 28:38Speaker 4: heat is set to a warm, warm twenty two or
- 28:40Speaker 4: twenty three degrees year round.
- 28:42Speaker 2: Yeah, sometimes twenty four twenty four. Jess is card wild.
- 28:46Speaker 5: Because it works to me and my partner because we
- 28:47Speaker 5: have the same comfort point. Interestingly, though similar to our
- 28:50Speaker 5: person we both are at very different earning spot sure,
- 28:54Speaker 5: with me being the hiring kind earner.
- 28:56Speaker 2: Big dog and a jew familiar. I love that.
- 29:00Speaker 5: But to be honest, it's never been an issue for
- 29:02Speaker 5: us because we are both comfortable at that temperature point,
- 29:05Speaker 5: whereas friends of ours the girlfriend is similar to me
- 29:09Speaker 5: once it's toasty all the time, her boyfriend runs hot
- 29:12Speaker 5: like he is always warm.
- 29:13Speaker 2: There's no way Steve would let me have the heater on.
- 29:16Speaker 5: Yeah, And so it's finding a happy medium, I guess.
- 29:18Speaker 5: But the bigger thing here, I guess is it just
- 29:20Speaker 5: it goes beyond just the comfort of what temperature is
- 29:23Speaker 5: ideal for the house, And I guess it plays into
- 29:24Speaker 5: the bigger conversation of well, how do you manage it
- 29:27Speaker 5: when you're very different earning places?
- 29:29Speaker 2: Right, totally totally, I would say. So I'm thinking, what
- 29:35Speaker 2: are they I guess we don't really have the information
- 29:38Speaker 2: about like what they're contributing to what parts, Like someone
- 29:41Speaker 2: pay more rent? Is someone pay more this that? I
- 29:43Speaker 2: would say, figure out what your priorities are. Let's say
- 29:48Speaker 2: split rent down the middle, for example, half half. When
- 29:51Speaker 2: it comes to energy and heating, if you want to
- 29:54Speaker 2: be toasty all the time, I run cold. I'm constantly cold.
- 29:57Speaker 2: Same I want the heater on constantly, I would be
- 30:00Speaker 2: willing to pay extra for energy. I would be like,
- 30:03Speaker 2: I'll pay seventy percent and you just pay thirty percent,
- 30:07Speaker 2: regardless of what it comes to because I want it
- 30:10Speaker 2: hot all the time. I would be comfortable with that.
- 30:12Speaker 2: So are there ways like are you maybe spending more
- 30:15Speaker 2: on laundry detergent? Are you paying for like the little
- 30:20Speaker 2: bits and pieces in the bathroom? Maybe figure out what
- 30:22Speaker 2: you're both comfortable actually splitting down the middle and then
- 30:25Speaker 2: saying I'm willing in order to be comfortable, I promise
- 30:29Speaker 2: I'll pay if it's extra, if it's like really really expensive,
- 30:32Speaker 2: I'll pay X amount.
- 30:34Speaker 5: I just want to be comfortable, because you don't want
- 30:36Speaker 5: to demonize her or punish her for setting her financial
- 30:39Speaker 5: boundary either, Like if she's saying my money is really tight,
- 30:42Speaker 5: this is something that's really expensive, Like I want to
- 30:44Speaker 5: be conscious of it, Like, we don't want to disregard that,
- 30:46Speaker 5: because what we preach all the time, right is set
- 30:48Speaker 5: your boundaries, talk about what's important to you. So I
- 30:51Speaker 5: feel like your solution is, like, is a very practical
- 30:54Speaker 5: one really, because you also have the right to be comfortable.
- 30:56Speaker 5: Like if James said to me, oh, I want the
- 30:57Speaker 5: house to be fifteen degrees, I'd be like, yeah, that
- 31:00Speaker 5: is not going to work for me here.
- 31:03Speaker 4: I think it's interesting as well because we don't have
- 31:05Speaker 4: enough information about when this heat is on, Like is
- 31:09Speaker 4: this heater being left on all day while we're at
- 31:11Speaker 4: work or is it something that just gets switched on
- 31:14Speaker 4: in one room when you get home from work and
- 31:17Speaker 4: you know it's at the cool twenty four degrees that
- 31:20Speaker 4: Jess is happy with, but it's just the like mainland
- 31:22Speaker 4: droom or something after hours. So I think there's a
- 31:25Speaker 4: lot to I guess, converse about, because hypothetically, if you're
- 31:29Speaker 4: leaving the heater on all day to heat up for
- 31:32Speaker 4: when you get home, that I can see why she
- 31:35Speaker 4: might be a little bit frustrated that because that is
- 31:37Speaker 4: a bit of a waste of money. You need to
- 31:38Speaker 4: probably use your resources a bit better. But if you're
- 31:41Speaker 4: only turning it on when you get home and you're
- 31:43Speaker 4: actually being really conscious, I feel like that leans into
- 31:46Speaker 4: more of a balanced conversation around Okay, well, I want
- 31:49Speaker 4: to be comfortable with my own home, Like where's the
- 31:52Speaker 4: happy medium? Because I know, Jess, if you and I
- 31:54Speaker 4: live together and my house was twenty four degrees yet around,
- 31:57Speaker 4: I would not deal not because of something and it's
- 32:00Speaker 4: really exciting things. I'd be dying. I'd be like, oh,
- 32:03Speaker 4: twenty four way too hot? Like really, yeah, one hundred percent.
- 32:07Speaker 4: I'd be like ill, can you not? And like my
- 32:10Speaker 4: husband would lose his mind, Like our heater has to
- 32:13Speaker 4: go off entirely at nighttime, yeah, because we go absolutely
- 32:18Speaker 4: cold turkey to bed and when I wake up in
- 32:20Speaker 4: the morning, the house is usually like thirteen or fourteen
- 32:22Speaker 4: degrees before the heater goes on. And I'm I'm really
- 32:24Speaker 4: happy with that. But it's really about I guess fair
- 32:28Speaker 4: Like is there a fair use policy?
- 32:31Speaker 2: Like is there? Yeah? That must be If there's.
- 32:34Speaker 4: Not, yes, yeah, Like have we talked about it, Like
- 32:36Speaker 4: your partner doesn't like use the heating all the time.
- 32:38Speaker 4: Is it because it's too hot or is it because
- 32:40Speaker 4: you're just using it consistently. What do they think fair
- 32:43Speaker 4: use actually looks like? And then we can negotiate from there, like,
- 32:47Speaker 4: let's have a start point.
- 32:48Speaker 2: True, I didn't think about that. Maybe your partner is
- 32:50Speaker 2: just extremely hot all the time and it's so sick
- 32:53Speaker 2: of it.
- 32:54Speaker 4: Or maybe it could be that the enity is too
- 32:57Speaker 4: and it might be one thousand percent financial. I feel
- 32:59Speaker 4: like this bit extent, like healthmate.
- 33:01Speaker 2: Positions as well.
- 33:02Speaker 4: Yeah, Like I don't know, Like I would be really
- 33:05Speaker 4: miffed if I was working my life away twenty four
- 33:07Speaker 4: to seven and then my housemate was at home with.
- 33:09Speaker 2: The heater blaring all day? Yeah, like, are you home
- 33:13Speaker 2: a lot more than one person?
- 33:14Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 33:14Speaker 2: There's a lot of conversation to be had. Did everyone
- 33:17Speaker 2: else think all right?
- 33:18Speaker 4: So we asked do you live with your significant other?
- 33:21Speaker 4: Seventy seven percent of you said yes, twenty three percent
- 33:24Speaker 4: said no. We said, if yes, are you contributing to
- 33:27Speaker 4: bills equally or based on income?
- 33:30Speaker 2: Fifty eight percent of.
- 33:31Speaker 4: You said we are equal, baby, and thirty nine percent
- 33:35Speaker 4: said nope, we split based on equity.
- 33:37Speaker 2: I hope we had something to do with that. Jessicah
- 33:39Speaker 2: love that.
- 33:40Speaker 4: Then we asked, do you have different ideas on how
- 33:43Speaker 4: much utilities like heating or cooling should be used? Then
- 33:47Speaker 4: twelve percent of you said yep, it's constant battle, forty
- 33:50Speaker 4: nine percent of you said sometimes, and thirty nine percent
- 33:53Speaker 4: of you said nop.
- 33:53Speaker 2: We're always on the same page. I'm never on the
- 33:57Speaker 2: same page as my husband.
- 33:58Speaker 5: I feel like sometimes it comes in a shock, like
- 34:00Speaker 5: sometimes able comes in like it's always those first few
- 34:03Speaker 5: months of the winter, right when you were just having
- 34:04Speaker 5: heating on and you go, oh yeah, and then you go, okay,
- 34:07Speaker 5: we'll switch it off earlier or whatever.
- 34:09Speaker 2: But yeah, I feel like I can hear it in
- 34:11Speaker 2: my head right now, Victoria. Have you seen the gas bill? Yes? No,
- 34:16Speaker 2: but I'm sure you're about to show me.
- 34:19Speaker 4: So we asked you guys what you thought and for
- 34:21Speaker 4: your comments were, and here are a few of them.
- 34:23Speaker 4: So one person said, we work hard to be comfortable
- 34:26Speaker 4: in our home. Time to rework those percentages? Maybe fair.
- 34:30Speaker 4: Someone said, if the higher earning person is using the
- 34:32Speaker 4: heater a more, they should paint more for the bills.
- 34:35Speaker 2: Simple.
- 34:36Speaker 4: Someone said, we put the same amount of money, but
- 34:39Speaker 4: we cover each other on extras. If someone has spare cash,
- 34:43Speaker 4: someone else said, just got a bill for one thousand
- 34:45Speaker 4: dollars for two months for two people living in a
- 34:48Speaker 4: free standing house.
- 34:49Speaker 2: Oh what law is that? Maybe an accident? No, no,
- 34:56Speaker 2: somebody who has abused their seat before. It absolutely isn't.
- 34:59Speaker 2: Oh my god.
- 35:00Speaker 4: Someone else said, would you consider paying even more for
- 35:02Speaker 4: the heating? They can afford x and you can just
- 35:06Speaker 4: maybe pay the rest set of an outcome? Just kind
- 35:09Speaker 4: of nice.
- 35:10Speaker 2: Someone said, could you just offer to cover the extra
- 35:12Speaker 2: heating or maybe try a.
- 35:13Speaker 4: Small portable heater? I feel like that's a common traps.
- 35:17Speaker 2: More expensive people.
- 35:18Speaker 4: Think that small portable heaters are lack way cheaper, but
- 35:21Speaker 4: they're actually not.
- 35:23Speaker 5: Get some heat bags or some electric weatcats or something
- 35:27Speaker 5: that's gonna be my have.
- 35:28Speaker 2: An throw blanket.
- 35:30Speaker 4: Oh yeah, Jess and I are going to do crafts
- 35:32Speaker 4: soon and we're going to make wat packs.
- 35:34Speaker 2: That's cute. Maybe we'll film it.
- 35:36Speaker 4: We'll make you one. We'll make you a weak Thank you,
- 35:38Speaker 4: keep you warm, all right. Someone else said, my boyfriend
- 35:42Speaker 4: earns three times as much as me, but we split
- 35:44Speaker 4: everything equally, and I'm really struggling. Yeah, so that's because
- 35:48Speaker 4: you shouldn't be splitting everything equally. You should be talking
- 35:51Speaker 4: about equity in a relationship, and if someone is earning
- 35:54Speaker 4: three times more than you, I genuinely don't believe it
- 35:57Speaker 4: is fair to split rent fifty to fifty. Yeah, Like,
- 36:00Speaker 4: at the end of the day, I think there needs
- 36:02Speaker 4: to be a really big conversation because we're not saying
- 36:04Speaker 4: he needs to cover your expenses, But it is wildly
- 36:07Speaker 4: unfair to think that your lifestyle is maintainable to the
- 36:10Speaker 4: same lifestyle standards that someone with three times in income
- 36:13Speaker 4: has right as to what you do. Like, absolutely not right.
- 36:17Speaker 4: I think it's wild to think that, Like, let's pretend
- 36:19Speaker 4: they're on one hundred and fifty thousand dollars and you're
- 36:21Speaker 4: just earning fifty thousand dollars to go out for brunch,
- 36:25Speaker 4: to pay the bills, to put on the table the
- 36:27Speaker 4: food that you want to eat. Someone who has an
- 36:30Speaker 4: income of one hundred and fifty thousand dollars is going
- 36:32Speaker 4: to have very different expectations than someone with fifty thousand dollars.
- 36:36Speaker 4: And I'm guaranteeing you that somebody who earns one hundred
- 36:40Speaker 4: and fifty thousand dollars, we're not crucifying them. They earned that,
- 36:44Speaker 4: they deserve that, but you know what mentality they have.
- 36:47Speaker 2: They also go, oh, I've earned this. We should go
- 36:49Speaker 2: on a holiday, babe.
- 36:51Speaker 4: How are you going to afford that holiday if you're
- 36:53Speaker 4: not dividing things VI equity instead of basically equal, Because
- 36:57Speaker 4: at the end of the day, it's not going to
- 36:59Speaker 4: be sustainable and you're going to create drifts and rifts
- 37:02Speaker 4: in your relationship. And I think that that's a really
- 37:04Speaker 4: bad position to be.
- 37:05Speaker 2: Yeah, for sure.
- 37:06Speaker 4: Moving on, a lot of people said you should start
- 37:08Speaker 4: tracking the cost of hours that you're using the heater
- 37:11Speaker 4: and then split it up and talk about it.
- 37:13Speaker 2: Oh, seems like a lot of mass.
- 37:15Speaker 1: You know what.
- 37:15Speaker 4: It seems like a lot of math, And I don't
- 37:17Speaker 4: think we should be getting into the nitty gritty with
- 37:19Speaker 4: our partner.
- 37:20Speaker 5: And it also would be hard because it fluctuates hour
- 37:23Speaker 5: to hour, like gas is more expensive, not always, but
- 37:26Speaker 5: some companies charge more.
- 37:28Speaker 2: Peak times and stuff.
- 37:29Speaker 4: Yeah, I think it's just a conversation at the end
- 37:31Speaker 4: of the day that we need to be having with
- 37:33Speaker 4: our partners, with our housemates, with people that we live
- 37:36Speaker 4: with around.
- 37:37Speaker 2: Well, guys, the cost of.
- 37:38Speaker 4: Living is increasing, gas and electricity increasing, Like what can
- 37:42Speaker 4: we actually do to bring it down? And I feel
- 37:45Speaker 4: like sometimes even looking into it, you might realize that
- 37:49Speaker 4: the impact is not that big in comparison to the
- 37:51Speaker 4: bigger things. Like this conversation might be coming from a
- 37:54Speaker 4: place of I'm feeling really financially constricted about absolutely everything,
- 37:59Speaker 4: and the thing that's at front of my mind is
- 38:01Speaker 4: that you always have the heater on. So I'm going
- 38:03Speaker 4: to direct my feelings towards that and be like, you're
- 38:05Speaker 4: wasting money, rah rah, and then realizing that maybe the
- 38:10Speaker 4: heater isn't the biggest thing in our financial story at
- 38:13Speaker 4: the moment, So I think we need to break it up,
- 38:15Speaker 4: have a look at it and go, well, what does
- 38:16Speaker 4: this look like, and maybe accept that you might need
- 38:19Speaker 4: to contribute more if you want to keep living your life.
- 38:21Speaker 2: The whole way. Yeah. I love that. Great point is that.
- 38:25Speaker 4: All we've got time for today, though, I think so ah, Well, guys,
- 38:28Speaker 4: have the best weekend and we will see you right
- 38:30Speaker 4: early on Monday for our money Diary.
