- 0:08If an avoidant truly lets you go, you are gone.
- 0:12No nostalgia, no lingering attachment.
- 0:17But if they don't, it's because something about you disrupted
- 0:22their usual emotional shutdown. And that type of disruption does
- 0:27not fade. You see, avoidance cope by
- 0:32compartmentalizing. And they're very good at it.
- 0:36And I should know because I'm a self aware, dismissive avoidant.
- 0:42So we put people, relationships, and emotional experiences into
- 0:46boxes. Then we close the box, lock it,
- 0:51and move on. That's how avoidance avoid
- 0:54dealing with feelings that feel overwhelming or unsafe.
- 0:58But there is one box that just won't stay closed, darn it.
- 1:06One person who does not fit neatly into a category.
- 1:10One person whose presence in our mind refuses to be filed the way
- 1:16and forgotten. And this is an obsession.
- 1:20And it's not longing in the romantic sense.
- 1:22It's an emotional experience that our nervous system never
- 1:27fully resolved, and so our brain keeps returning to it, trying to
- 1:32integrate something that didn't fit our usual pattern of
- 1:35detachment and emotional shutdown.
- 1:37And because it never fully gets integrated, it stays active.
- 1:43And that's the person that avoidance don't truly let go of.
- 1:47So who is this magical person? What traits do they have?
- 1:52Do you have one or more of those traits?
- 1:55We'll stay tuned and you'll find out.
- 1:57Hi, if you're new here, my name is Lucia.
- 1:59I'm a dating and relationship expert specializing in helping
- 2:02you get your ex back or to get over them.
- 2:06And if you're not new, then you are part of my no contact army
- 2:10and welcome back. Thanks for being here again.
- 2:13OK, so who is this person who avoidance cannot forget?
- 2:19This person is often the one who made them feel safe enough to
- 2:22open up. Because when an avoidant shares
- 2:26their deepest fears or insecurities or their childhood
- 2:30wounds, they're actually violating their own internal
- 2:33rules. They're exposed.
- 2:36And if you were someone who handled that vulnerability with
- 2:40real care, without judging, without dismissing it, and
- 2:44without ever using it against them later, then you showed them
- 2:48something that their nervous system didn't believe was
- 2:50possible. That is, that being vulnerable
- 2:54doesn't always have to end in pain, that being fully seen
- 2:58doesn't automatically lead to rejection.
- 3:01Think of it like someone who's afraid of dogs because they've
- 3:05had bad experiences in the past, until one day they meet a dog
- 3:09that's calm and loving and protective.
- 3:13That doesn't totally erase their fear of dogs, but it becomes the
- 3:18exception. So you become that exception
- 3:22even if the relationship ended, even if the years have passed,
- 3:26even if there's with someone new now, their nervous system is
- 3:29going to remember the safety that you created.
- 3:31You become the benchmark for what trust feels like.
- 3:37Avoidance. Also, don't forget the person
- 3:39who stayed calm when they deactivated.
- 3:42We all know about avoidance deactivation, right?
- 3:46So when they pulled away emotionally, when they became
- 3:49distant or unavailable, when they withdrew instead of
- 3:53communicating, you did not panic, you did not beg, you did
- 3:57not demand reassurance, and you did not abandon them either.
- 4:03You witnessed them in a state they usually hide, and you
- 4:06stayed regulated. And that creates a bond deeper
- 4:12than romantic love, because for an avoidant whose deepest fear
- 4:16is abandonment, this teaches them that love doesn't require
- 4:21constant validation or perfect behavior.
- 4:25So how you respond when they pull away determines whether you
- 4:29become forgettable or unforgettable.
- 4:32And if you would like to be unforgettable and you would like
- 4:36help to get your ex back, avoid or not, you can contact me at
- 4:41theartoflove.net/coaching and we will send you the rates.
- 4:45They are not on the website and the link to that, the direct
- 4:48link is underneath every single video and podcast.
- 4:52OK, next you had a life that didn't revolve around them.
- 4:57You had passions, goals, social life and identity that existed
- 5:02outside the relationship. You wanted them, but you didn't
- 5:06need them to feel whole. And this matters because most
- 5:10avoidance eventually experienced partners who start orbiting
- 5:14around them, becoming anxious whenever they need space.
- 5:18But you didn't do that. You represented intimacy without
- 5:22engulfment, connection without suffocation.
- 5:28You proved that being a relationship doesn't
- 5:30automatically mean losing yourself, and that experience
- 5:34becomes their reference point for what healthy intimacy looks
- 5:37like. Also, when your needs weren't
- 5:42being met, you didn't beg for consistency.
- 5:44You didn't ask foreclosure, you didn't create drama or guilt
- 5:49trip them. You simply calmly stated your
- 5:53boundaries and if they crossed them, you walked away.
- 5:58And for an avoidant who's used to people chasing them because
- 6:01they're always pulling back, so often they're dating someone
- 6:04who's anxious and the anxious person is going to start chasing
- 6:08when the avoidant pulls back. So when they're used to people
- 6:12chasing them and accepting half hearted effort yourself respect
- 6:16and walking away is going to be shocking to them.
- 6:19You became the one who got away because you valued yourself too
- 6:24much to accept less. And that kind of self respect
- 6:28and self worth leaves a permanent mark.
- 6:32And by the way, if you're in no contact with your avoidant and
- 6:35you're having a hard time not reaching out, not chasing them,
- 6:39then be sure to check out my app Silencio, available in both the
- 6:44App Store and in Google Play to help you stay in no contact.
- 6:48And while you're at it, check out my book available at
- 6:51nocontactsecrets.com, where you can read 2 free chapters before
- 6:55purchasing the book, and the link for both is underneath
- 6:58every single video and podcast. OK, the next trait of someone
- 7:04avoidance cannot forget is that you recognize that they were
- 7:09avoidant and instead of using that knowledge to control them
- 7:13or try to fix them, instead you used it as a map.
- 7:16So you worked with their wiring instead of against it.
- 7:20You gave them space without making it about you.
- 7:23You didn't take their withdrawal personally because it's not
- 7:26personal, although everyone wants to think it is.
- 7:29You understood their patterns were protective mechanisms that
- 7:34were developed in childhood. Being understood without being
- 7:37made to feel broken is actually one of the most powerful
- 7:40experiences an avoidance or actually anyone can have.
- 7:43That's what we all want, someone who just understands us without
- 7:46us having to explain ourselves constantly.
- 7:49And that level of understanding creates a bond that goes far
- 7:53beyond romantic attachment. And also, another trait would be
- 8:01that your presence shifted something in them.
- 8:04Maybe they finally went to therapy.
- 8:07Maybe they finally began recognizing their patterns.
- 8:10Maybe they started healing wounds that they had ignored for
- 8:13years. You didn't force the
- 8:15transformation, you inspired it. So if your relationship prompted
- 8:20them to work on themselves, then you're not just an ex, you are
- 8:24part of their transformation story because you change the
- 8:27trajectory of how they relate to people.
- 8:29That's huge. That does not go away.
- 8:34And finally, avoidance. Do not forget the person who
- 8:38made them break their own rules. They swore they would never
- 8:42commit. They would never say I love you
- 8:45first. They would never get married,
- 8:47they would never introduce someone to family.
- 8:49They would never build a future. And yet they did.
- 8:52Not because you demanded it. Not because you manipulated it,
- 8:57but because being with you made them question everything they
- 9:00thought they knew about themselves.
- 9:02You expanded their understanding of what they're capable of
- 9:05feeling and doing. Avoidance.
- 9:08Don't easily forget people who are the exception to their
- 9:10rules, who made them question everything they thought they
- 9:14knew. You proved their rules weren't
- 9:17as absolute as they thought, and that realization does not just
- 9:21disappear. So not every unforgettable
- 9:26person gets a reunion. Not every unresolved bond leads
- 9:31to a reconciliation. But being unforgettable was
- 9:35never about chasing or proving your worth.
- 9:39It's about how they felt in your presence and what that feeling
- 9:43woke up in them. And that's the one box avoidance
- 9:47cannot fully close. So now I want to hear from you.
- 9:52How many, if any, of these traits do you have?
- 9:55And if you're trying to get your ex back and don't want to make
- 9:58any mistakes that will push them further away, be sure to
