Transcript
- 0:00Oh, God. Oh, my God.
- 0:12Yeah, if I pull my wiener out, it's a new episode.
- 0:15And we're already on the third episode this minute.
- 0:18Double duck it. Yeah. Oh, perfect.
- 0:21Welcome back to Cage Match, a roundabout way of meeting Nicolas Cage.
- 0:23I'm your host, Sean, here with my co-host Nick and our producer Peter.
- 0:27Hello. And this week we are discussing the movie Kick Ass.
- 0:31Welcome back, Eric.
- 0:32I believe it's actually kick ass, kick ass, kick ass kick ass kick ass.
- 0:38Ass kick.
- 0:41It doesn't make sense to know.
- 0:42I thought that was a solid joke.
- 0:44That was a good one. It's a very good dad joke, at least.
- 0:47He was proud of himself.
- 0:48And that's what's important with dad jokes.
- 0:50Also the mustache. Great. Great. Dad's dash.
- 0:52Why is his name Big Daddy?
- 0:54Oh, I wouldn't.
- 0:56I can't figure that out.
- 0:57If you have a little girl sidekick, like who is the sidekick in this situation, too?
- 1:03I mean, it was Hit Girl.
- 1:05Big Big Daddy is the sidekick.
- 1:07Yeah. Well, he's like a mentor, right?
- 1:11I mean, like he's he's trying to get around. He's growing.
- 1:13Yes, exactly.
- 1:15He's Big Daddy's grooming.
- 1:18I mean, at least unlike the last time we watched Nicolas Cage get called daddy,
- 1:22it wasn't with weird sexual energy.
- 1:24When was the last time you got called daddy?
- 1:25Fucking matchstick man.
- 1:27Oh, well.
- 1:30Daddy.
- 1:31Was that the the con the con man movie?
- 1:33Yeah. OK, gotcha.
- 1:34So, Eric, you had seen Kick Ass before.
- 1:37Right. I had seen Kick Ass before.
- 1:39And maybe like you guys, you remember enjoying it more.
- 1:44When when did this come out? 2010.
- 1:47See, that makes sense.
- 1:48I would have enjoyed this more in 2010.
- 1:50I didn't do it more in 2010.
- 1:52I think I was on the opposite side of it.
- 1:54In 2010, I thought it was too much of a try hard movie.
- 1:57And I was like, I was too cool for it.
- 2:01I actually have a little anecdote about seeing this movie
- 2:03because I loved the comic when it first came out.
- 2:05Mark Millar, John Romita, Jr.
- 2:07But the comic shop I used to shop at comic outpost rest in peace
- 2:11was having a crappy superhero like costume contest to get early screening tickets.
- 2:17So my buddy Justin and I decided we were going to like dress up
- 2:20as like shitty superheroes.
- 2:22The only rule is your costume had to cost less than twenty dollars.
- 2:25So I took my old wetsuit that didn't fit me anymore,
- 2:27made a mask out of a scarf, put on like a Russian furry hat that I had.
- 2:31And I just cut out like a Safeway paper bag and slapped a D on the front of it.
- 2:35I was D bag. No words. And I won.
- 2:38Oh, good. Justin was my sidekick plaid lad.
- 2:41He just put on a bunch of plaid.
- 2:43But my battle cry was I'm going to punch you in the dick.
- 2:48And then the owner of the comic outpost
- 2:50and later that night went home, got into a fight with his wife
- 2:53and told her in the day told her I'm going to punch you in the dick.
- 2:56And she's like, where do you learn this?
- 2:58And he proudly said D bag.
- 3:02And then I got to see kick ass a week early in theaters.
- 3:05That's the best anecdote that you've ever told.
- 3:07That's really like that. That's better than this movie.
- 3:11I had never seen this movie and I actually really enjoyed it.
- 3:14I mean, I agree.
- 3:15I think it is kind of a try hard of that era, but it was a lot of fun.
- 3:19I mean, all it was missing was a fucking what's a serial eaten comedian
- 3:24who is awful and somehow still has a career.
- 3:29I think his name is Carrot Top.
- 3:30No, Carrot Top is amazing.
- 3:32Fucking shut up.
- 3:33I don't know. He always like Count Chocula made a thing.
- 3:38He's like, oh, you feel.
- 3:41I don't know. What are you talking about?
- 3:43Is this Cheddar Goblin?
- 3:44No, Cheddar Goblin is cool, though.
- 3:47I miss Cheddar Goblin.
- 3:48We all miss. I'm going to remember his name like halfway through this episode.
- 3:51And I'll tell you that. Shout it out.
- 3:52Yeah. Everyone shut the fuck up.
- 3:56Oh, wake your baby upstairs.
- 3:58Just good.
- 3:59Shouting this shitty comedian's name.
- 4:01Demetri Martin.
- 4:04Might be it. No, no.
- 4:05I like Demetri Martin.
- 4:07Is there a Dante guy, something Dante?
- 4:09Tell me about this movie.
- 4:11Well, again, I feel like for me who saw it
- 4:15or remember seeing it back in the day,
- 4:17I recall just like the best parts of like Nick Cage, like just being more prominent.
- 4:22I thought that was like more of the film and that and I wish it was more of the film.
- 4:25Same. I remember him having a much bigger role in this movie than he does.
- 4:29Yeah. So when I when I rewatched, it was like it took a really long time
- 4:32until he like jumped in there at all.
- 4:34That first scene that's that he's in there is is tremendous.
- 4:38I love it. Oh, where he shoots his daughter, where he shoots his daughter.
- 4:41Yeah. As a father of of a daughter, not much younger than than her.
- 4:45I don't know. Fantasy's have been had.
- 4:47That would be fun for the whole family. Yeah.
- 4:49Mostly you therapeutic.
- 4:51He looks like he's having a blast.
- 4:54So the cast of this one.
- 4:55So you've got Aaron Johnson, who I don't know if he did anything
- 5:00other than the two kick ass movies.
- 5:01He's he was Quicksilver in the age of Ultron.
- 5:05That's right. So he's Dave and also kick ass kick ass.
- 5:10Christopher Mintz, plus who everyone thinks that I look like him
- 5:13is Chris D'Amico and or Red Mist.
- 5:17Mark Strong is his dad, Frank D'Amico and Chloe Grace
- 5:21Moretz is Mindy McCready slash Hit Girl.
- 5:24And then Nick Cage is Big Bang Daddy.
- 5:28Rick Gotter. Daddy.
- 5:30Nick Cage did have a name in this, didn't he?
- 5:34Well, yeah, he's a there was so much.
- 5:36McCready. Oh, OK.
- 5:37Damon. OK, he did say that.
- 5:39Marcus most importantly.
- 5:41Yeah, Marcus is the good cop.
- 5:42Yeah, most importantly, the big tatter.
- 5:45The biggest daddy kick ass young.
- 5:48What we're doing, we're doing a high school movie.
- 5:51He wants to what superhero fantasy.
- 5:54He wants to be a vigilante.
- 5:55Somebody needs to do something.
- 5:57His friends talk him out of it.
- 5:58They say you would get your ass kicked.
- 6:00You would die. And what he tries to help somebody
- 6:03and he gets his ass kicked and he almost dies.
- 6:04It's stabbed and hit by a car. Yeah. Yeah. But.
- 6:08Stop going down that alley.
- 6:10Stop going down that one specific alley where there's two guys
- 6:12always fucking jumpy.
- 6:14But it's the shortcut.
- 6:16That's where what that's probably where like the fake kick ass got killed to.
- 6:19It's the same alley.
- 6:21That is crime alley.
- 6:22That's where fucking Batman's parents die.
- 6:24Oh, man. Oh, it's a bunch of stray pearls everywhere.
- 6:28So what he gets the he gets the nerve damage so that he is.
- 6:33I don't know.
- 6:34He can handle more.
- 6:35He can take more hits and he gets a metal implant.
- 6:37So so apparently could take some more damage, too.
- 6:40But still, he gets his ass kicked like a lot.
- 6:43You know, knowing old people who have fake hips, those things are not that sturdy.
- 6:47No, I don't think they're improvements usually.
- 6:50You're usually worse off.
- 6:51Yeah. So I guess my favorite.
- 6:54OK, this does my favorite part is, yeah.
- 6:56So after he gets mugged and gets a superpowers
- 7:01superpowers of being a dude who got mugged, a dude that got mugged.
- 7:05What? He can just get his ass kicked harder.
- 7:07The whole high school, because he was they think he was sexually assaulted.
- 7:12Think that he's gay now.
- 7:14Oh, yeah. Which is which is pretty generous of them.
- 7:18What his new best friend, Katie, comes up, not because she is worried about him
- 7:23because she thinks that he was just sexually assaulted and beat up in the street
- 7:27and left naked and for dead.
- 7:29And I was really she's excited to have a gay friend
- 7:32and has always wanted a gay friend ever since she was a child.
- 7:35I was waiting for the shoe to drop that she had other gay friends
- 7:39who just kept turning out to like be straight.
- 7:41And she was worried that she was turning all the gay men straight.
- 7:45And it's her own superpower. Yeah.
- 7:48So it's like really tearing her apart.
- 7:50It's the opposite of my superpower.
- 7:52I've always wanted a gay friend, but
- 7:55this piss is too good and it keeps just driving the men wild.
- 7:59They got all this milkshake.
- 8:01That's what that's what they should have gone with. Yeah.
- 8:04Oh, you turn you turn me straight.
- 8:06What am I supposed to do? We have to check.
- 8:10I can't confirm that I'm straight.
- 8:13Well, turns out I am. Yeah.
- 8:15Oh, so what Dave's been going, going, going.
- 8:18Dave starts going on vigilante justice missions or what?
- 8:22Just one via my space. OK, wait.
- 8:24No. So he has a my space account.
- 8:26But really. OK, so who does he go and talk to for Katie?
- 8:30Right. Oh, Raul. Raul. Raul. Raul. Raul. Raul.
- 8:35Oh, right.
- 8:36And were they were they an item?
- 8:39Ra's so cool.
- 8:40You know, it never clarifies like it really seems like it's just a hardcore
- 8:44drug dealer or something.
- 8:46I don't understand why they were hiding.
- 8:48She volunteers at the needle bank.
- 8:50Yeah. Suicide hotline and that kind of stuff.
- 8:53And Katie got in deep like she was fucking that dude. Yeah.
- 8:56So what? Up to this point, Dave has been, you know, what?
- 9:00Slap it. Slap in people in the street.
- 9:02Oh, yeah. Stuff like that.
- 9:04With his baton with it with his baton. Yeah.
- 9:07My favorite line from this film is like right before he gets into his
- 9:09like second major fight is kick ass.
- 9:12The one that makes him famous is he's trying to save a cat
- 9:15and just and right before he falls like that's how it happened.
- 9:18Yeah. Right before he falls off a billboard thing, he's just like,
- 9:21fuck you, Mr. Bidey.
- 9:23I love that the cat's name is Mr. Bidey, though.
- 9:26That's good. Why would you even go looking for that cat?
- 9:28Fuck that cat. That's what made him a hero.
- 9:31He's going to go save Mr. Bidey.
- 9:32Nobody else would help Mr. Bidey.
- 9:34They say fuck that cat. Yep.
- 9:36Turns out Mr. Bidey didn't deserve it.
- 9:38What? So Dave goes and confronts Razul in his like crime gang.
- 9:43Who? Kade is pretty sure that's who is still still weird that they that they hung out.
- 9:49I don't I don't know how they got involved.
- 9:51Like he sounded just like a junkie off the street, like he was in
- 9:55and slipped in the bushes or something like that, but he was moving weight.
- 9:59He worked for D'Amico.
- 10:00He worked for D'Amico. He was a made man.
- 10:02He had a doorman with a gun. Yeah.
- 10:06Like in their shitty.
- 10:07Like what is this guy doing in the needle exchange?
- 10:11He's giving them out with samples.
- 10:12He's there. He confronts Razul, says, you know, leave Katie alone
- 10:16and then tases Razul in the face. Face tases him.
- 10:19Yeah. And then that's a fucking you're starting a fight.
- 10:22Yeah. And then he gets like held down
- 10:24and Razul gets out the big knife
- 10:27and then gets stabbed through with this shitty CG sword.
- 10:29Yeah. But then we get the best scene in the film.
- 10:32Absolutely. Of Hit Girl just murdering three gang bangers
- 10:37and then killing a sex worker and a just guy who was just doing nothing.
- 10:41She she told me she was a sex worker.
- 10:44Are you just making assumptions now? Yes, I am actually.
- 10:48At least the woman did like pull like smash a bottle and pull a bottle.
- 10:53Yeah, I think the guy on meth just wanted to continue out of the bathroom
- 10:57and was like, oh, no, no.
- 10:59The meth guy was just there.
- 11:01There was another guy in the bathroom who just walked out.
- 11:03Oh, you're talking about the only white guy in the guy came out of the bathroom
- 11:06was also white, I think.
- 11:07He pulled a knife. He pulled a butterfly.
- 11:09You think just the white guy lived?
- 11:11Is what you think? No, he didn't. OK.
- 11:14No one lived. I think that the lady would have been OK, but she like
- 11:18she pulled a bottle. She was like, come at me.
- 11:20She got aggressive. Yeah, she did.
- 11:21You should have just begged.
- 11:23You beg for your life in that situation.
- 11:26I don't care how big I don't care how big a bodyguard you are
- 11:29or how big your gun is.
- 11:30If I saw two like bloody katana blades come through a door, I'm like,
- 11:33not paid enough for this. I just walk away and come back tomorrow.
- 11:37And that that woman, she watches all these guys get murdered,
- 11:40like in front of her, and they fought hard.
- 11:42And she's like, all right, like now you're now you're in for it.
- 11:47Yeah. Heineken bottle.
- 11:49But yeah, it was terrific.
- 11:50Seen what that was like Heineken.
- 11:52Flowy Grace Mertz is a big debut right there.
- 11:55I mean, she really was made a giant name for herself.
- 11:58Just murdering people.
- 12:00The insane cunt, the graphic violence and language
- 12:06was so shocking that it was just fun, fun for the family,
- 12:10for their family.
- 12:11I mean, she really kind of is the main character of the story.
- 12:14She's the one who has kind of the arc, like loses her father, gets revenge
- 12:18in the story that you wanted to follow.
- 12:20And that one random.
- 12:24Sorry, it was Dan Cook.
- 12:26What do you mean?
- 12:27Uh, Dan Cook was the shitty comedian
- 12:30that I was thinking would fit perfect in this movie.
- 12:33They absolutely didn't cook in cereal.
- 12:37Yeah. Didn't he do a thing where you're like, I don't know.
- 12:39I don't like his comedy.
- 12:41So like, I only kind of remember from college, like people.
- 12:44And he's like, oh, I love you, people.
- 12:46They're all.
- 12:47You know, I. OK, I hear it now.
- 12:49I totally I knew it was going to be named Cook,
- 12:51but I wanted to see if he'd find it.
- 12:53We got there.
- 12:54I had to go back through waiting.
- 12:56I knew he was in waiting and I had to work through that one.
- 12:58You had been a little tuned out for a while.
- 13:01Also, Luis Guzman was in waiting.
- 13:03Yeah, it's true.
- 13:03Oh, man, I love it when Luis Guzman shows up.
- 13:06Oh, he's don't.
- 13:07You don't. You know, Peter hates Luis Guzman performing in a movie.
- 13:13You haven't listened to our last episode.
- 13:15Yeah. Fucking Luis Guzman.
- 13:17What?
- 13:18I was talking about like kick ass.
- 13:19Just killed people. Yeah.
- 13:22Nick Cage in this is the best part of this film.
- 13:24He's not in it a lot, but he is the best.
- 13:26No, he's got like he got to do whatever he wanted.
- 13:29Yeah. It's like you get to be you got like five scenes.
- 13:31It's just like just ham it up.
- 13:33Eat, chew scenery.
- 13:34Like, I don't think anybody asked him to do Adam West.
- 13:39Why did he have kind of the Batman costume?
- 13:41Like, I don't know.
- 13:43I love it. I love how when they're interrogating that guy is like, no,
- 13:46but it's not Batman.
- 13:48I never said Batman is like Batman.
- 13:49Like him really similar.
- 13:51But we're not talking about Batman.
- 13:53And then the boss just goes, OK, so then Superman.
- 13:57No, it was Batman. It wasn't bad.
- 13:59I never said Batman.
- 14:00I loved it. I loved the detail with the mustache, the dustache.
- 14:04That's a good way to like disguise your personality.
- 14:07If the only thing that's going to be seen on your face is like your mouth area.
- 14:11But so and you're committed to having a mustache.
- 14:13He has distinctive facial hair. He has the proper like dad sash
- 14:17just like bushy just above the lip.
- 14:19But when he goes into superhero mode, he puts on like fake
- 14:22spirit gummed Fumanchu attachments.
- 14:25Oh, wow. Yeah.
- 14:27So and like we get to put it on part of the movie.
- 14:31And it made me think of this really shitty 90s like pornography TV,
- 14:36like superhero TV show Night Man,
- 14:39who was like a jazz musician by day and was a superhero by night.
- 14:44But his costume had a wig on it so people wouldn't recognize his hair. Sorry.
- 14:50He must have been a shitty jazz musician if he had to play jazz during the day.
- 14:54They like only good jazz musicians at night.
- 14:58So he's he's like daytime like he's the guy that does the intros on.
- 15:03He's just like,
- 15:05well, hey, everybody.
- 15:10Welcome back to my NPR show where I talk about the plants I'm growing.
- 15:17Exactly. Yeah.
- 15:18So I did it. I did.
- 15:20I did like the send five dollars, the mustache detail.
- 15:24It is valuable.
- 15:25I also didn't notice the mustache.
- 15:27The only time in a superhero movie where we see someone apply the eye black.
- 15:31Oh, yeah. Yeah.
- 15:32What? So I don't much.
- 15:33I mean, OK, what guy, guy that Peter that people think looks like Chris
- 15:39for Mitzvah, I think that's unfortunate that they make that red mist.
- 15:43That they say that.
- 15:44I think you look so much like that other guy.
- 15:47I've absolutely also looks like Chris from Mitzvah.
- 15:49Wait, which one are you talking about, Tim Curry?
- 15:51Are you talking about?
- 15:53Oh, you're talking about Charlie Kaufman.
- 15:55But I'm not talking about Charlie Kaufman.
- 15:58He's going to find it.
- 15:59You're talking about Donald Kaufman. I get it. Yeah.
- 16:01No, that's me.
- 16:02What he comes in and as as red mist, I really didn't like him in the whole movie.
- 16:07No, well, he's kind of a cunt.
- 16:09He is. And he was he was a perfect.
- 16:12He was a perfect McLovin.
- 16:14Oh, yeah. Absolutely.
- 16:15Yeah. He did great role models.
- 16:19I don't know. Christopher Mitzvah.
- 16:20Yeah. But other than that, yeah, I thought I didn't like him.
- 16:25And I didn't like scenes with him in there.
- 16:28He was a character with a face that was perfect for punching.
- 16:31And he got very little punches to the face.
- 16:34Not enough punches.
- 16:35He does have a punchable face.
- 16:37Wait, fuck. Do I have a punchable face?
- 16:39Oh, no, not like that.
- 16:41Oh, thank God.
- 16:42Have you guys your face is punchable for different reasons. Excellent.
- 16:45Have you guys seen the what kick ass to never know?
- 16:49I saw a trailer for it to buff it.
- 16:51It's way they Peters look alike.
- 16:53I have a hard time learning the Christmas class.
- 16:56I it's the three names.
- 16:58It's always serial killers. Yeah.
- 17:00It's just extra effort.
- 17:01He's just so much worse in that one.
- 17:04They just make him so much more annoying.
- 17:05It's terrible. So I'm glad that says something because he is quite annoying.
- 17:10He's annoying.
- 17:11But like it's just like they just take it up to like a volume level.
- 17:17That's just really obnoxious.
- 17:20And just he's just yelling all the time and he shouldn't be yelling.
- 17:22He's just like more of a little shit in this one.
- 17:25Just me. It was funny when he jumped off the dumpster and he's like, Oh, fuck.
- 17:30I think I bet you I have a feeling like that was like not in there.
- 17:33And he's like, Oh, shit, that hurt a little bit.
- 17:37What do you think of the violence in this?
- 17:39What it was definitely made to be shocking.
- 17:41And it was fun when it was, especially when you had a little girl doing it.
- 17:45That was the that was the big thing of the movie.
- 17:48I thought it was just like little girls swearing and murdering.
- 17:52Yeah, you're hyper violent.
- 17:53Jay Barichel. Oh, yeah.
- 17:57I mean, more than Christopher Mintz plot.
- 17:58I think that one's way more fair.
- 17:59Yeah. Yeah. All right.
- 18:01Just without the voice.
- 18:03Oh, yes. The violence was I mean, no, this was this was meant to be like shock value.
- 18:07Like they gave the you know, the big black bodyguard bazooka.
- 18:09That was all the best. He never got to use it.
- 18:11It was his dream and it got taken away from him.
- 18:14D'Amico getting killed with the bazooka was it was a cool death at the end.
- 18:17That was a pretty decent way to go.
- 18:18I do appreciate this.
- 18:19I learned this from mythbusters that, you know, like with RPGs and like artillery
- 18:26like that, they have to travel a certain amount before they're armed.
- 18:30So like he gets hit in the hit in the chest of the shell.
- 18:33It flies him out of the building before it explodes
- 18:35because it would take that long to like trigger.
- 18:37I appreciated the attention to detail.
- 18:39I mean, that might not have been attention to detail.
- 18:41They might have just been like,
- 18:43wouldn't it be so much cooler if it tossed him outside and then exploded?
- 18:47If they didn't like blow up everybody in the same room. Right.
- 18:50Yeah, but it is nice.
- 18:51I'm like, that's true or not.
- 18:53So let's leave a sequel open.
- 18:55I did. I did really love the comic when it came out.
- 18:58I haven't read it since.
- 18:59I don't think it'll hold up.
- 19:00But this movie is barely grounded for the most part.
- 19:04I was going to say they lost me as soon as he named himself kick ass.
- 19:08Like he's sitting there and he's like workshopping names in his thing.
- 19:11And he's just like, it wasn't one of them like nighty night.
- 19:14Oh, God.
- 19:15I was like a night ass or like
- 19:17a night kicker or something like that.
- 19:21I would hope everything just ended with ass night.
- 19:24Yes. Well, again, what it was just so.
- 19:27Did you know something really?
- 19:29I don't know. Low hanging fruit to increase the shock value.
- 19:32But like this movie does try to like stay relatively grounded
- 19:35up until they give him a jet pack with fucking mini guns on it.
- 19:39I thought that's where he became a superhero. Really?
- 19:43I mean, that's when you started doing like some something
- 19:45other than just baton and people.
- 19:47Yeah, that's when he stopped sucking.
- 19:48Yeah. And started killing.
- 19:50He started. Yeah. He said he's calling like a last.
- 19:52Oh, he got OK with murder.
- 19:54You know, he fucking Gatlin a bunch of guys.
- 19:57He sure did. Yeah.
- 19:59That was the coolest thing he did in the whole movie.
- 20:01Yeah. No, he didn't hesitate.
- 20:03And he looked like he was having fun at that point.
- 20:05Yeah. Like he's like, why didn't I start murdering ages ago?
- 20:08He sort of overall sucks shit, right? Yeah. Yeah.
- 20:13Yeah. It's a weird protagonist. Yeah.
- 20:15Again, like the story is really a hit girl story. Yeah. Yeah.
- 20:18She comes in and she's the real story.
- 20:21And that opening scene, you're shooting his daughter in the chest.
- 20:25It was such a good and they have a lot of good father daughter moments.
- 20:28They play it really well.
- 20:29I also want to say this movie does do one thing where it's like kind of Bucks
- 20:32tradition where you have like the mafia father who's like ashamed of his son.
- 20:36Now you have a very supportive mafia father.
- 20:38Yeah. Who likes his kid and takes him to the movies and gets him popcorn.
- 20:41Nice little mafia family unit. Yeah.
- 20:43But you knew he was a monster because he got Twizzlers.
- 20:47I love Mark Strong.
- 20:48Explain his movie theater. Yeah.
- 20:51I enjoyed him at the like theater, but like I I really liked him
- 20:56going through his order of like that's what I'm talking about.
- 20:58You get this and this getting a Twizzlers and some this and slushy
- 21:03and slushy red mix with blue.
- 21:06Oh, man. You remember when he's going through
- 21:08he's chasing the fake kick ass. Yeah.
- 21:11And kick ass gets like a couple high fives and he's like high fives.
- 21:14What the fuck is this high five motherfucker?
- 21:17I'll give you a high five. High five your mother.
- 21:23You really went OK.
- 21:24Mark Strong is so good.
- 21:25I keep thinking that he and Cage had another movie overlap,
- 21:28but it's because I keep mixing it up with the dude that was in the Humanity Bureau.
- 21:32Oh, yeah. Definitely not the same guy.
- 21:35The guy's wait, Matt Damon.
- 21:39Different. You're going to have a different humanity.
- 21:41There are different things.
- 21:42Who was in that? You're thinking of this cage was.
- 21:44And I know what you're thinking of a different humanity or a different
- 21:47beer, humanity report that now it was a bureau something.
- 21:52Yeah, it was a beer.
- 21:53Something might have just been the bureau.
- 21:55So what do we think in terms of the Venn diagram?
- 21:58Good cage, bad cage, good movie, bad movie, good, bad, bad, good, bad, bad, good, bad.
- 22:03Well, again, man, Nick Cage made the movie better.
- 22:07Yeah, every way.
- 22:08And he should have been in there more.
- 22:10Also, one of his best death scenes to date.
- 22:12Oh, absolutely. Good Lord.
- 22:14I like burning and shit.
- 22:16He's yes, he's.
- 22:17Oh, that's true.
- 22:18Kryptonite.
- 22:20Kryptonite. Oh, my.
- 22:23That's the delivery still hurts me.
- 22:26I don't like that at all.
- 22:27I remember when I saw it the first time, it's just like, couldn't you prioritize
- 22:31like putting out daddy fire first?
- 22:34Like, that's what I tell my kids if I'm going to teach him anything.
- 22:37If daddy's on fire, pee on him.
- 22:39Daddy's on fire and kill everybody.
- 22:41I mean, what the hell for the schools were around them.
- 22:44She could have at least not be burned and knocked him out of the fiery area.
- 22:49Right. Just not the chair back burning underneath him.
- 22:52Yeah, I do.
- 22:52And then you start.
- 22:53I do like the doom style first person like night vision, like, oh, no murder scene.
- 22:57Little the little girl murder scene.
- 22:59Yes, whenever she was killing people.
- 23:01Great. Yeah. Her fight.
- 23:03Mark Strong, like just like, oh, man, that is a child.
- 23:06Like when he just like grabs you by the throat and she's like
- 23:08dangling two feet off the ground.
- 23:10Oh, it's while getting punched.
- 23:11It's the reality of the situation.
- 23:14She's just a little girl.
- 23:16Yeah, but then he's a Mark Strong man.
- 23:18Oh, eventually you're going to hit back.
- 23:20Oh, man. In the comics, though, like when Hit Girl gets captured, like
- 23:23they take a tenderizer to her face.
- 23:25I'm not familiar with the source material.
- 23:28It's again, I remember enjoying it when I read it and I read it
- 23:31before the movie came out.
- 23:32So I'm sure my opinions will have changed.
- 23:34But also John Amita Jr.
- 23:35Drew it, who did all the art for the movie.
- 23:37And I absolutely love John Amita Jr. I think Good Cage.
- 23:41I'm going to say Good Movie. Good Cage.
- 23:43Fine movie. Oh, what?
- 23:45I definitely say Good Cage.
- 23:47Fine movie. OK, good, good movie.
- 23:49Those those quintessential cage moments of him screaming,
- 23:52him just being wacky for no reason, just introducing character traits
- 23:57that maybe nobody asked for, you know, all good things.
- 24:01If this movie was on TV and I came across it on or near a scene
- 24:06with Nicolas Cage, I would watch it.
- 24:07But if I was just scrolling through and it was just like kick ass
- 24:13talking about stuff, I might just come back later.
- 24:17Right. That's not what's going to grab you.
- 24:19Yeah, no.
- 24:19So it's not enough reason to stop and watch the movie.
- 24:22But Nicolas Cage would be.
- 24:24I do want to point out one difference between the movie and the comic.
- 24:27And the comic would make more sense with the Adam West presentation.
- 24:31Because in the comic, he's just like a weird super fan,
- 24:34like weird comic fan.
- 24:36And when Nicolas Cage's character.
- 24:38Yeah. Big Daddy.
- 24:39And when like D'Amico's people like finally capture him
- 24:42and they like open up like his bag of guns,
- 24:44it is just like first edition Spider-Man's.
- 24:47Like he's not a cop.
- 24:48He has no like crime fighting history.
- 24:50He's just a fucking guy who wanted to be a superhero.
- 24:53The cop angle, I think, makes more sense for how deadly he actually is.
- 24:56Yeah, it makes more sense for this movie, or at least makes it more fun.
- 25:00It was strange that he was watercolor painting
- 25:03all of the good at it, too. Yeah.
- 25:05And that's all John Amita Junior.
- 25:07But yeah, how often do you have somebody write their confession in comic form?
- 25:13But when Marcus shows up at the at the safe house, Marcus reads the comic
- 25:18that is the origin of Big Daddy and Hit Girl.
- 25:21Not only did you write a confession, you illustrated it and water colored it.
- 25:25Yeah. Here's a storyboard.
- 25:27And then it's going to get burned.
- 25:28And then later on, Hit Girl just reading it.
- 25:30Mindy's just reading it.
- 25:32Oh, Big Daddy. Big Daddy. Big Daddy.
- 25:36Oh, I hate it. I hate it so much.
- 25:39I'm going to send you a Christmas card this year and be like,
- 25:42Merry Christmas, Big Daddy.
- 25:44Oh, no. Rachel's going to be so confused.
- 25:48And it'll just be a picture of me and Sean laying on a bed like looking at hamsters.
- 25:52Yeah. Gazing lovely at guinea pigs.
- 25:56I don't know. Just just a watercolor Nick Cage face with that mustache would be.
- 26:00That's all I need. Would be just fine.
- 26:02That gets me over the edge every time.
- 26:05Hmm. And then Big Daddy.
- 26:09OK, how do we wrap that one up?
- 26:11Yeah, that that wrapped itself up.
- 26:13Yeah, I think we're good then.
- 26:15Yeah. Cut right in the middle of one of those big daddies.
- 26:18Big Daddy. Oh, God.
- 26:21OK, thank you all for listening.
- 26:24Tell them about the Patreon daddy.

- 26:58Indeed.
- 26:59And everybody biggest that is.
- 27:12That sounds like a John Grisham book, the Bureau.
- 27:16I think it probably was.
- 27:17No, that was the firm.
- 27:19The firm, what?
- 27:21Oh, nice.
- 27:23The firm Pelicans briefs.
- 27:25Yeah, nice.
