- 1:14Speaker 4: I'm backsided And if your brain feels like a half
- 1:17Speaker 4: melted Pavlova right now, you are not alone. This time
- 1:20Speaker 4: of year is a lot, the family dynamics, the money stress,
- 1:23Speaker 4: the expectations, so this episode, it's not about budgets or
- 1:27Speaker 4: hacks or to do lists. It's a little gift from
- 1:29Speaker 4: us to you. Five things we wish for you as
- 1:31Speaker 4: twenty twenty five wraps up and twenty twenty six rolls
- 1:34Speaker 4: in and helping me deliver them is Victoria divine Merry
- 1:38Speaker 4: Christmas vee h.
- 1:39Speaker 5: There you didn't expect to see me here? No, actually,
- 1:42Speaker 5: Christmas Eve. I you guys know, I'm such a Christmas fiend.
- 1:47Speaker 5: I love the festivity, I love the family, I love
- 1:51Speaker 5: the friend. Oh.
- 1:52Speaker 2: I love a half melted pavlova. You know what.
- 1:55Speaker 5: I am a believer that the pavlova is better this
- 1:58Speaker 5: second day, Like you know, when like you've had the party,
- 2:01Speaker 5: everyone like I was like, oh.
- 2:02Speaker 2: No thanks, no thanks.
- 2:03Speaker 5: On dessert that it goes into the fridge and then
- 2:04Speaker 5: you eat it the next morning for breakfast.
- 2:06Speaker 2: That is peak pavlova for me.
- 2:08Speaker 4: Anything that's been that's had time to marinate overnight is
- 2:11Speaker 4: more delicious.
- 2:12Speaker 2: Yeah, a marinated pavlova. I've never been a big fan.
- 2:15Speaker 4: It's been too eggy for my liking. What is wrong
- 2:17Speaker 4: with you?
- 2:18Speaker 5: You know?
- 2:19Speaker 2: How did you get on this show? How did you
- 2:20Speaker 2: pass all the like tests we put in place, and
- 2:23Speaker 2: then finding out you don't like Panova.
- 2:25Speaker 4: I scrape all the cream off the top.
- 2:27Speaker 5: That's got an Australian not really, Oh my goodness. Well, also,
- 2:32Speaker 5: while I'm here, I just wanted to acknowledge that as
- 2:34Speaker 5: much as I love Christmas, I also think it is
- 2:37Speaker 5: a very good time to talk about how it's actually
- 2:40Speaker 5: not an easy time for everyone in our community. Like
- 2:43Speaker 5: I'm hearing it every day, and I'm just so grateful
- 2:45Speaker 5: that you guys feel safe enough to message me and
- 2:47Speaker 5: be like this is so trash be and I go, yeah,
- 2:50Speaker 5: like that would be trash, Like yes, I'm here to
- 2:52Speaker 5: empathize with you, like we know that it is a
- 2:55Speaker 5: really stressful period of time, whether that is as you
- 2:58Speaker 5: mentioned before, the family dynamic, even the travel, but mostly
- 3:02Speaker 5: at the moment we are still going through a cost
- 3:04Speaker 5: of living crisis, so our finances are taking a hit.
- 3:07Speaker 5: But then we're also just like stressed about that. So
- 3:10Speaker 5: many of you who have been messaging me saying, oh
- 3:12Speaker 5: my god, ve like, I'm so stressed. I can't even
- 3:14Speaker 5: look forward to Christmas because I've overspent.
- 3:18Speaker 2: So I'm giving these gifts.
- 3:19Speaker 5: Knowing it's quote the right thing, but I just still
- 3:21Speaker 5: feel like trash about it, Like there's just nothing that
- 3:24Speaker 5: feels good, and so I just I think that the
- 3:27Speaker 5: important thing to remind you of on Christmas Eve, before
- 3:30Speaker 5: Christmas Day, when we're probably all I don't know if
- 3:33Speaker 5: you do this, but like I over analyze everything. I
- 3:36Speaker 5: know you do too, because like the language of yours
- 3:39Speaker 5: is gift giving, and so you're probably like, oh my god,
- 3:41Speaker 5: did I get just enough?
- 3:42Speaker 2: Or did I do this? Or did I do that?
- 3:46Speaker 5: The good gifts and the things that matter at this
- 3:50Speaker 5: point of view have nothing to do with physical gifts, right,
- 3:53Speaker 5: Like they aren't wrapped in shiny paper, but they're full
- 3:56Speaker 5: of heart and love and care.
- 3:58Speaker 2: And I think.
- 3:59Speaker 5: That's exactly what we all need to be hearing this Christmas.
- 4:02Speaker 5: Like I am so grateful that tomorrow morning I'm going
- 4:05Speaker 5: to wake up with my husband and my son.
- 4:07Speaker 4: Yeah exactly, just like.
- 4:08Speaker 5: I'm just so excited, Like I have shake a pancake
- 4:12Speaker 5: mix and I cannot wait to try and make the
- 4:16Speaker 5: dodgiest shaped Christmas tree pancakes in the entire world.
- 4:20Speaker 2: And that's what I'm excited for.
- 4:22Speaker 5: And I just hope that you and our community can
- 4:25Speaker 5: find things that you're excited about tomorrow that don't involve
- 4:29Speaker 5: the gifts, that don't involve the fanciest of foods on
- 4:32Speaker 5: the Christmas table, that don't involve money.
- 4:35Speaker 2: But yes, honestly, that's not what it's about exactly.
- 4:38Speaker 4: And I feel like, you know, there are some people
- 4:39Speaker 4: who are stressed because they don't have the money, and
- 4:41Speaker 4: there's some people that are stressed or like just feeling
- 4:43Speaker 4: really sad and lonely because they might not have anyone
- 4:46Speaker 4: to celebrate Christmas with it, and some people do celebrate
- 4:48Speaker 4: Christmas at all, which is completely the case.
- 4:50Speaker 2: I'll still reply on Christmas Day.
- 4:52Speaker 4: Yeah, well, if you want to say, hey, message us
- 4:54Speaker 4: and then I can, like I can check you on
- 4:56Speaker 4: video call and you can sit and you can.
- 4:58Speaker 5: Join me in my brothers. I feel like that's so wholesome.
- 5:01Speaker 5: But then also like, don't mope. I know that it sucks,
- 5:05Speaker 5: and I know that you're probably not looking forward to
- 5:08Speaker 5: it all, but like, if you've got the time, it's
- 5:10Speaker 5: Christmas Eve, we've still got time to save this. Write
- 5:12Speaker 5: a list of all the self carey things you could
- 5:14Speaker 5: do tomorrow so that you can put you first, like
- 5:16Speaker 5: you might be on your own but like, what's your
- 5:18Speaker 5: favorite movie, Let's watch that tomorrow. Do you have a
- 5:21Speaker 5: favorite food you could cook? Like, is there a fancy
- 5:23Speaker 5: drink we could go by? Like how do we curate
- 5:26Speaker 5: a cute day.
- 5:26Speaker 4: That's just for you exactly?
- 5:29Speaker 2: We could go on a big walk. Are you close
- 5:31Speaker 2: to the beach? Like, do you know what the beach
- 5:32Speaker 2: is going to be dead tomorrow? You could go on
- 5:34Speaker 2: the best self care walk?
- 5:35Speaker 5: Yeah, And I'm manifesting good Christmas weather, So I just yeah,
- 5:41Speaker 5: I just feel like there's a lot that we could do,
- 5:43Speaker 5: And I think sometimes we just have to choose to
- 5:46Speaker 5: force ourselves to have a good day to yea, even
- 5:48Speaker 5: if it feels a little bit trashy starting.
- 5:50Speaker 4: Because if you don't have anyone else, you have yourself
- 5:52Speaker 4: and you're going to take yourself on a date. Yes,
- 5:55Speaker 4: that's gorgeous. So we've got our wishless prep.
- 5:58Speaker 2: Yeah, and color.
- 6:00Speaker 5: Of course, my n is color coded. It's also in
- 6:02Speaker 5: the notesap of my phone.
- 6:04Speaker 4: Oh yeah, it's so satisfying, So be what's up first?
- 6:08Speaker 2: All right, I have written this one down because I want.
- 6:10Speaker 5: To start with I would say the biggest one, the
- 6:12Speaker 5: most classic, most cliched, totally overused Christmas, which of all time,
- 6:18Speaker 5: but I would say for very good reason. So my
- 6:21Speaker 5: first wish for you is it's not world peace that
- 6:24Speaker 5: you saw that coming. You were like this woman thinks
- 6:26Speaker 5: she's Miss America, although that would be very nice too,
- 6:30Speaker 5: I mean personal, financial, and emotional peace. So I'm literally
- 6:34Speaker 5: just starting with peace. Like I know that that sounds
- 6:37Speaker 5: a little bit cliche, and I prefaced it that it
- 6:40Speaker 5: was going to be. If anything, I am lame, Like
- 6:43Speaker 5: I'm lay that is fine, go back to basics sometimes,
- 6:46Speaker 5: you know, but it's so underrated. Yeah, Like we talk
- 6:50Speaker 5: about wanting success and we want money, and we want,
- 6:53Speaker 5: you know, other people to see us doing well, and
- 6:56Speaker 5: we want shiny things.
- 6:57Speaker 2: But like I would say, the older I get, the
- 7:01Speaker 2: more I'm like, I just want my peace.
- 7:03Speaker 5: Yeah, Like I want the flexibility to choose to not
- 7:07Speaker 5: have to rush. And peace matters just as much as
- 7:10Speaker 5: anything else. And it is so okay to just want that.
- 7:14Speaker 5: And the truth is peace doesn't actually just appear like
- 7:19Speaker 5: it's a conscious choice. Like you have to catch yourself
- 7:23Speaker 5: in the negative self talk. You have to be able
- 7:26Speaker 5: to cut.
- 7:26Speaker 2: Ties with people that you maybe need to.
- 7:29Speaker 5: Cut ties with so that you can find your peace
- 7:32Speaker 5: and prioritize your peace. But so many of us, especially
- 7:35Speaker 5: at this point of the year, and like, I don't
- 7:37Speaker 5: know about you, but I TikTok doom scroll all the
- 7:40Speaker 5: time and I talk about it all the time. And
- 7:42Speaker 5: the influencer halls at the moment of people just like
- 7:47Speaker 5: being like, oh, and I've bought this and this and
- 7:48Speaker 5: this and this is my Christmas list, and it's all
- 7:50Speaker 5: just so materialistic, and we find ourselves slipping into like
- 7:55Speaker 5: a state of comparison. Even I'm doing it, Like I'm
- 7:57Speaker 5: looking at people's Christmas halls and like them putting together
- 8:00Speaker 5: their kids Christmas stockings, and I'm thinking.
- 8:03Speaker 2: But have I just not done enough? Like am I
- 8:05Speaker 2: a bad mum? Like I have.
- 8:08Speaker 5: A very limited Christmas stocking for Harvey because he's not
- 8:12Speaker 5: even yet too I'm like, you don't need anything, Like
- 8:15Speaker 5: I could probably wrap up a pair of socks from
- 8:17Speaker 5: my husband that he's already worn, and my son would
- 8:19Speaker 5: rip it open and be.
- 8:20Speaker 2: Like, wow, Daddy socks, like exactly.
- 8:22Speaker 5: So I don't know, I just feel like I've been
- 8:25Speaker 5: slipping into this analysis paralysis or like comparison culture, and
- 8:30Speaker 5: like just put that in the bin, like My first
- 8:32Speaker 5: wish for you literally is peace.
- 8:34Speaker 4: Yeah, what else.
- 8:36Speaker 2: Could that look like?
- 8:37Speaker 5: I suppose, especially when it's not just Christmas related, because
- 8:41Speaker 5: I think that I just wish this for you now
- 8:43Speaker 5: and into the future. But like not spiraling when you
- 8:46Speaker 5: see somebody else's gone on holiday on Instagram, not going, oh,
- 8:50Speaker 5: I can't believe they can afford that, Like that's crazy.
- 8:53Speaker 2: They probably can't.
- 8:54Speaker 5: So they can't.
- 8:56Speaker 2: They're probably in debt.
- 8:57Speaker 5: I also want you to forgive yourself if you're listening
- 9:00Speaker 5: to this episode and you're like, oh my god, VI,
- 9:02Speaker 5: I know, but I also already overspent, Like I already
- 9:05Speaker 5: overspent this Christmas Like it's cooked.
- 9:08Speaker 2: Eh, who cares? You already did it? Don't worry? Why
- 9:12Speaker 2: are you beating yourself up?
- 9:13Speaker 4: Also, the fact that you overspent means that you were
- 9:15Speaker 4: trying to buy things for either yourself.
- 9:17Speaker 2: Yeah, Like are you just a good human trying to
- 9:19Speaker 2: do a good human Like just because you did one
- 9:22Speaker 2: thing that you're like, oh, I wish I didn't do that.
- 9:24Speaker 5: Like, let's just not beat ourselves up. The what do
- 9:26Speaker 5: you get out of that except for feeling like trash?
- 9:29Speaker 5: Like making people feel like trash doesn't help them change.
- 9:32Speaker 5: I want you to even have hopefully a tiny buffer
- 9:37Speaker 5: so that if an unexpected bill pops up, it doesn't
- 9:40Speaker 5: knock you out. So tomorrow, if hypothetically you open a
- 9:44Speaker 5: present and you're like, oh, I don't really need this.
- 9:46Speaker 2: Facebook marketplace is looking so good.
- 9:48Speaker 4: Yeah, and that.
- 9:49Speaker 5: Could be like a little like I don't know, emergency
- 9:52Speaker 5: fund buffer like you true, thanks Sony Karen for that
- 9:55Speaker 5: present that just turned into my emergency fund.
- 9:58Speaker 2: Very nice.
- 10:00Speaker 5: It's also and I talk about this all the time,
- 10:02Speaker 5: automate your money so that doesn't live rent free in
- 10:04Speaker 5: your head if you're always thinking about money, when your next.
- 10:06Speaker 2: Bill is you direct debits exist.
- 10:09Speaker 5: Set these things up automated, stick in an automation so
- 10:13Speaker 5: that your savings go to savings, your investments go to investments,
- 10:16Speaker 5: or your debt repayments go to debt repayments.
- 10:18Speaker 2: Just get it done.
- 10:19Speaker 5: And also, can we just remind everybody here and now
- 10:22Speaker 5: that your worth is not dictated by your bank account exactly.
- 10:26Speaker 5: Have you ever been like, I really want to hang
- 10:28Speaker 5: out with her. She's really cool. She's got so much
- 10:31Speaker 5: money in her bank totally that that doesn't happen.
- 10:35Speaker 2: That's not a real thing.
- 10:36Speaker 4: That doesn't happen and I but also, yeah, at the
- 10:39Speaker 4: end of it all, I really think, like whether you
- 10:41Speaker 4: have overspent, whether you've whatever. I just think, isn't it
- 10:45Speaker 4: so great that you have people that you can overspend on?
- 10:48Speaker 2: Do you know what I mean exactly? And even if that.
- 10:50Speaker 4: Person is yourself, you deserve all the treats in the world.
- 10:53Speaker 5: You deserve a million treats, you really do. You are
- 10:55Speaker 5: also the sweet treat.
- 10:57Speaker 4: You're the sweet treat, and you deserve a sweet treat.
- 11:00Speaker 4: So next on the list is another very Christmas y wish.
- 11:03Speaker 4: I we sa it is joy.
- 11:05Speaker 5: Yeah, okay, so we didn't say that this wasn't going
- 11:08Speaker 5: to be lame like where we're like, this is going
- 11:10Speaker 5: to be stereotypical, but we'll make sure that it sticks.
- 11:13Speaker 2: Right Yeah yeah yeah.
- 11:15Speaker 5: So we see it all the time, people thinking that
- 11:17Speaker 5: they need to choose between like their fun or their finances.
- 11:20Speaker 5: And I think so much of the conversation around money
- 11:23Speaker 5: is about restraint.
- 11:25Speaker 2: And how many times do I say.
- 11:26Speaker 5: Your budget isn't about restricting yourself, It's about understanding, let's
- 11:30Speaker 5: not forget the money can also spark joy, yeap, Like
- 11:34Speaker 5: that's allowed. In fact, it's essential, Like Otherwise, if you're
- 11:39Speaker 5: restricting yourself forever, you're going to blow out or burn out.
- 11:41Speaker 5: And this one is so important, especially for those of
- 11:44Speaker 5: us who are like savers and we really struggle to
- 11:48Speaker 5: actually spend our money our community members who are chasing
- 11:52Speaker 5: joy with money, but then they're overspending in the wrong places,
- 11:56Speaker 5: Like that's not the type of joy we're talking about, Like,
- 11:58Speaker 5: how do you create a buffer so even when you
- 12:01Speaker 5: do spend on fun things, you don't feel guilty because
- 12:03Speaker 5: how many times do we hear on money diaries and
- 12:06Speaker 5: just from our community like.
- 12:07Speaker 2: Oh, v like I do it. I do. I have
- 12:09Speaker 2: a budget and it's for fun stuff.
- 12:11Speaker 5: But when I go and get my nails done, I
- 12:13Speaker 5: just feel really guilty because that was fifty dollars that
- 12:15Speaker 5: I probably didn't need to spend on myself. Hey sorry, sorry,
- 12:20Speaker 5: that's a good things.
- 12:21Speaker 2: It sparks joy, Like we don't feel guilty about that.
- 12:24Speaker 2: That's why we have a plan.
- 12:26Speaker 5: And I guess in addition to all of that, when
- 12:30Speaker 5: I say, oh, like, let's find joy, find joy in
- 12:33Speaker 5: the simple things like going for a walk, feeling the
- 12:37Speaker 5: cold air on your face, Like can you go for
- 12:40Speaker 5: a swim? Can you get a dollar fifty coffee from
- 12:43Speaker 5: seven to eleven. I didn't do it with someone you love,
- 12:46Speaker 5: light Beck.
- 12:46Speaker 4: Exactly, do you know what I mean?
- 12:48Speaker 5: Like, Yeah, I feel like the more successful I am,
- 12:51Speaker 5: and I'm so grateful for that.
- 12:53Speaker 2: But the more successful i.
- 12:54Speaker 5: Am, the more I'm falling back on the little things
- 12:57Speaker 5: actually being the big things. Yeah, yeah, the more I'm like, oh,
- 13:01Speaker 5: that walk goes so good, And how the hell are
- 13:04Speaker 5: you going to be grateful for the really big things
- 13:06Speaker 5: if you don't even care about the small things totally?
- 13:08Speaker 4: And I really think like if you're attaching guilt to
- 13:11Speaker 4: joy and you know, we we I think have been.
- 13:15Speaker 4: This has been drilled into us since like kids, because
- 13:17Speaker 4: if you aren't studying or if you aren't paying attention
- 13:21Speaker 4: in school, if you're doing anything that sparks joy, it's like, well,
- 13:24Speaker 4: you shouldn't be doing that, but we can let go
- 13:27Speaker 4: of that, you know.
- 13:28Speaker 2: We should be Well, you just choose not to do that, Like.
- 13:30Speaker 4: Yeah, you just you should be feeling joy and you
- 13:33Speaker 4: can feel joy and you're allowed to feel joy. Don't
- 13:35Speaker 4: attach guilt to that because then it takes all the
- 13:37Speaker 4: joy out of the little things.
- 13:38Speaker 5: Exactly, And like I want you to spend your money
- 13:42Speaker 5: on things that actually light you up, not what just
- 13:45Speaker 5: looks good and shiny on Instagram. And you need to
- 13:47Speaker 5: separate those two things because it's so easy.
- 13:50Speaker 2: I'm so easily influenced.
- 13:52Speaker 5: Beck, Like I see something on Instagram, and then I
- 13:54Speaker 5: see it a few more times, I'm like, maybe I
- 13:56Speaker 5: do need that.
- 13:57Speaker 2: Yeah, totally, Like what do you actually enjoy?
- 13:59Speaker 5: Are you doing that because you just want to feel
- 14:01Speaker 5: included and you know, want to join in on a
- 14:04Speaker 5: trend or you're like, oh my god, I'm so excited
- 14:07Speaker 5: to buy a polymerclay set and like start making little
- 14:11Speaker 5: trinkets like go run your own race.
- 14:14Speaker 2: Do what lights you up? Because, don't get me.
- 14:18Speaker 5: Wrong, feeling the buzz when you see like your debt
- 14:20Speaker 5: shrinking or your savings growing is actually incredible. So we
- 14:25Speaker 5: need to be balanced about this, right, So we're not
- 14:27Speaker 5: just spending only on joy and being like no, Victoria
- 14:30Speaker 5: said spark joy always like sorry, how good does it
- 14:34Speaker 5: feel back to.
- 14:35Speaker 2: Get out of debt?
- 14:36Speaker 4: Oh my god, for so good?
- 14:37Speaker 5: But also how much easier is life and how much
- 14:40Speaker 5: better do you feel when you're like, oh, I've got
- 14:43Speaker 5: five hundred dollars in my investing account or, I've got
- 14:46Speaker 5: money in savings, like everything feels easier.
- 14:49Speaker 2: Yeah, So like that needs to be a priority as well.
- 14:51Speaker 5: So don't get me wrong, We're not just like throwing
- 14:53Speaker 5: money at things that spark joy, because I feel like
- 14:57Speaker 5: a lot of the time a lot of us are,
- 15:01Speaker 5: and this is maybe me being a little bit negative,
- 15:03Speaker 5: but us saying things like no, it's self care, I
- 15:06Speaker 5: deserve it. I'm really flat at the moment when the
- 15:08Speaker 5: reality is you haven't gotten off your button, gone for
- 15:11Speaker 5: a good walk, you haven't called a friend and caught
- 15:13Speaker 5: up with them recently, you haven't done anything actually to
- 15:15Speaker 5: nourish you. You're not drinking enough water, you're not actually
- 15:18Speaker 5: doing all of the basic fundamental self care things. But
- 15:21Speaker 5: then you're justifying a massage and being like, well, I
- 15:24Speaker 5: need it for my self care. Like, let's just get
- 15:26Speaker 5: our little house sorted, actually care about ourselves.
- 15:29Speaker 2: Let's look at our debt, let's get out of our debt.
- 15:32Speaker 5: Let's make sure that if you had a savings plan,
- 15:34Speaker 5: you're committing to that because long term, that's what's going
- 15:37Speaker 5: to pay off. Long term, that's how you're going to
- 15:39Speaker 5: feel better about yourself and feel good. Right, totally and
- 15:43Speaker 5: you know what that's going to do.
- 15:45Speaker 4: Spark joy, spuck joy.
- 15:46Speaker 2: See I wrapped it.
- 15:48Speaker 4: God, she's good.
- 15:49Speaker 2: Oh, I'm really impressed with myself.
- 15:51Speaker 5: So let's go to a really quick break because I
- 15:53Speaker 5: don't think it's going to get better in terms of
- 15:56Speaker 5: me wrapping it there.
- 15:57Speaker 2: And on the flip side, we're going to unpack a.
- 15:59Speaker 5: Wish that has I guess central to She's on the
- 16:02Speaker 5: money from the very beginning, So don't go anywhere.
- 16:09Speaker 4: Okay, guys, we are back, and so far we've had peace,
- 16:12Speaker 4: we've had joy. And this next one isn't something you'd
- 16:15Speaker 4: normally see on a Christmas card, but I have a
- 16:17Speaker 4: feeling that if she's on the money made Christmas cards.
- 16:19Speaker 2: It probably would be it. Actually it is on our
- 16:22Speaker 2: Christmas cards from last year.
- 16:24Speaker 4: Well I'm terrible, sorry, it's very obvious you've been reading them.
- 16:27Speaker 1: Yep.
- 16:27Speaker 5: We did Christmas cards last year and you probably haven't
- 16:31Speaker 5: seen them because like I did custom Christmas cards, she's
- 16:34Speaker 5: on the money, branded and themed. But to go out
- 16:36Speaker 5: to all of our clients and like gotchness and like
- 16:38Speaker 5: to my team and whatnot. And the word is freedom. Yes,
- 16:43Speaker 5: like a lot of the just like complete side note.
- 16:46Speaker 5: One of the things we did for clients, not last year,
- 16:49Speaker 5: but a couple of years ago was I actually put
- 16:51Speaker 5: a gift card in there and I said.
- 16:54Speaker 2: It was the gift of financial freedom.
- 16:55Speaker 5: Oh that's because then on the inside I said that
- 16:58Speaker 5: you've got the freedom to do whatever you want with
- 17:00Speaker 5: this money.
- 17:00Speaker 4: That's cool.
- 17:01Speaker 5: I was, like, you could give it away, you could
- 17:03Speaker 5: give it to someone else, you could spend it on yourself,
- 17:05Speaker 5: you could get your nails done, you could like literally
- 17:08Speaker 5: do anything. You could buy a chocolate cake and eat it,
- 17:10Speaker 5: like I don't care give it to charity, but like,
- 17:12Speaker 5: this little money is the gift of financial freedom, and
- 17:15Speaker 5: I just thought that was really fun. So yes, it's
- 17:17Speaker 5: been on the cards, but you're not going to be surprised.
- 17:21Speaker 5: Freedom is the next thing that I wish for literally everybody,
- 17:24Speaker 5: And it's literally one of the reasons I started Sheese
- 17:26Speaker 5: on the money. I want every single person ever to
- 17:31Speaker 5: just have the freedom that money brings. Like I'm not
- 17:34Speaker 5: saying you need to get filthy rich, although if you
- 17:37Speaker 5: want to get filthy rich, you're in the right place.
- 17:40Speaker 5: I can teach you that too, but freedom to have choice,
- 17:44Speaker 5: like you can walk out of a toxic job.
- 17:46Speaker 2: You can say if you to a.
- 17:48Speaker 5: Bad landlord or even a bad relationship, because you've built
- 17:51Speaker 5: yourself a really good financial cushion, you could even say
- 17:55Speaker 5: no to a really bad date and then just get
- 17:56Speaker 5: a really expensive uber home.
- 17:58Speaker 4: That's it.
- 17:59Speaker 2: Do you know what I mean? That is freedom? Like
- 18:01Speaker 2: imagine being able to be on.
- 18:03Speaker 5: This terrible date and walking out and getting in an
- 18:06Speaker 5: ubart ghosting them.
- 18:07Speaker 4: Oh my god.
- 18:08Speaker 2: I'm not saying that that's a good thing.
- 18:09Speaker 4: To do, but you could, you know, and the feeling
- 18:11Speaker 4: of being like, yeah, I will get a nice cream
- 18:14Speaker 4: right now, Why the hell not? And not having really
- 18:16Speaker 4: transfer yourself from another account that has your bills money
- 18:19Speaker 4: in it would be so nice exactly.
- 18:22Speaker 5: And we also need to say that freedom isn't like
- 18:26Speaker 5: living like a billionaire and just being like, oh my god,
- 18:29Speaker 5: like you can just do whatever you want, just start
- 18:31Speaker 5: living back, it doesn't matter, it does matter. We need
- 18:34Speaker 5: to live within our means in a way that still
- 18:36Speaker 5: lets you sleep at night, because to me that's freedom
- 18:38Speaker 5: as well. Yes, Like for me, financial freedom isn't this
- 18:41Speaker 5: number that a lot of people are like, oh, what's
- 18:44Speaker 5: your financial freedom number? Back, and you might go, oh,
- 18:46Speaker 5: it's one point two million dollars because then I'll have
- 18:47Speaker 5: a sixty thousand dollars income and.
- 18:49Speaker 2: Like that is great.
- 18:50Speaker 5: And for me, I talk about financial freedom in that
- 18:53Speaker 5: aspect because to me, that's creating you know, sustainable income.
- 18:57Speaker 5: That's not what I'm talking about, Like, I'm talking about
- 19:00Speaker 5: the freedom that I felt when I was still.
- 19:03Speaker 2: In like forty thousand dollars worth of debt.
- 19:05Speaker 5: It's probably at like thirty five thousand dollars at that
- 19:07Speaker 5: point when I had finally built up enough of a
- 19:09Speaker 5: cash buffer and had an emergency account and I finally
- 19:13Speaker 5: was like, oh my god, like I can finally see
- 19:15Speaker 5: the light at the end of the tunnel. Yes, I'm
- 19:17Speaker 5: still in debt, but I still have like an emergency
- 19:19Speaker 5: fund and everything's tracking and I can afford my bills
- 19:22Speaker 5: and I'm not going into further debt, and oh that
- 19:24Speaker 5: felt good. Like I'm not saying that financial freedom is
- 19:27Speaker 5: this finite number that we are working towards for the future.
- 19:32Speaker 5: For me, it's about watching your debt string instead of
- 19:35Speaker 5: grow and feeling like every single repayment is I don't know,
- 19:39Speaker 5: reclaiming you, yeah, like and a little piece of yourself
- 19:43Speaker 5: and knowing that the small choices that you're making today, Beck,
- 19:46Speaker 5: they're opening doors in the future for you.
- 19:48Speaker 2: Like it just when you start to.
- 19:50Speaker 5: Put your financial future first, you start to go oh,
- 19:54Speaker 5: like it's it's not as bad. Like stuff happens much
- 19:58Speaker 5: quicker than I thought, Like you're not going to wake
- 19:59Speaker 5: up to morrow. Beck can be like, oh, well, yesterday
- 20:02Speaker 5: I decided to start investing in myself, and today I've
- 20:05Speaker 5: got a dollar Like.
- 20:06Speaker 2: That's not what happens.
- 20:07Speaker 5: But like you know, I keep using you as an example,
- 20:10Speaker 5: and I think that you're literally the perfect example because
- 20:13Speaker 5: I have been.
- 20:14Speaker 2: Working on your sorry, but for so long.
- 20:17Speaker 5: Like bech safe, bech safe, bech safe, Like let me
- 20:20Speaker 5: do your budget, let me do your cash flow. Fine,
- 20:22Speaker 5: I can rant and rave for as long as possible,
- 20:25Speaker 5: but that feeling, like I can tell you, And how
- 20:30Speaker 5: many times have I said, Beck, do you know how
- 20:32Speaker 5: good you'll feel when you have an emergency fund? Do
- 20:33Speaker 5: you know how good you'll feel once you start investing?
- 20:35Speaker 5: You're like yeah, yeaheah, whatever, whatever. What does it now
- 20:38Speaker 5: feel like to have a little investment fund? Did you
- 20:41Speaker 5: expect it to be where it is today?
- 20:43Speaker 4: It feels really good? And no, I didn't because I
- 20:46Speaker 4: was I could never ever save. And it's just been
- 20:48Speaker 4: like I keep getting emails from Cheersy's being like, we've
- 20:52Speaker 4: got your top up of five dollars, and I'm like,
- 20:54Speaker 4: I don't remember ever putting this top up on, but
- 20:57Speaker 4: five dollars has gone and I did not notice it.
- 20:59Speaker 4: And that's credible. And it just like keeps going up
- 21:01Speaker 4: and up and I'm not doing anything about it, and
- 21:04Speaker 4: it is just.
- 21:05Speaker 5: Knowing it's there and I don't want you to pull
- 21:07Speaker 5: it out, like and you haven't yet, which honestly slag queen,
- 21:10Speaker 5: thank you, but like just knowing.
- 21:11Speaker 2: They're like, let's pretend a really big, unexpected bill happens
- 21:15Speaker 2: and you.
- 21:16Speaker 5: Know, something really bad. Sorry, you've got access to cash.
- 21:19Speaker 5: Isn't that crazy?
- 21:20Speaker 4: That is crazy. It's never ever ever happened. It doesn't ever.
- 21:23Speaker 2: Feel like you're a little bit more free.
- 21:26Speaker 4: Definitely, there's definitely a part of it. It's like, I, yeah,
- 21:29Speaker 4: if if something went really bad and I needed twelve
- 21:33Speaker 4: hundred dollars right now, is it a twelve hundred dollars?
- 21:35Speaker 2: Is it twelve hundred dollars? Are you joking?
- 21:38Speaker 5: I keep saying like, oh, I remember when it hit
- 21:40Speaker 5: like five hundred, I.
- 21:41Speaker 2: Know, four figures.
- 21:43Speaker 4: Yes, could you believe that?
- 21:45Speaker 2: Hold on? Hold on, hold on.
- 21:46Speaker 5: So backtrack in the last twelve months. This is not
- 21:49Speaker 5: a recap. We'll do maybe a recap episode at some point.
- 21:51Speaker 5: But in twenty twenty five, Becksied invested twelve hundred dollars.
- 21:56Speaker 4: Yeah, stop it.
- 21:58Speaker 2: Yeah, well I don't. It's crazy. I don't remember more
- 22:00Speaker 2: than dollars. Yeah, I told you in January.
- 22:03Speaker 5: If I tell you down in January and said, beck, so, yeah,
- 22:05Speaker 5: you're going to invest more than one thousand dollars this year.
- 22:07Speaker 2: Would you believe me?
- 22:08Speaker 4: No, because I wouldn't. I can't afford that. And then
- 22:10Speaker 4: somehow it's just in there and I don't. It really
- 22:13Speaker 4: does make a difference, just putting those little roundups.
- 22:15Speaker 2: On, and it was good.
- 22:18Speaker 4: If you spend like I do, before you know it,
- 22:20Speaker 4: you'll have one thousand dollars in roundups going straight in there.
- 22:24Speaker 5: But that's the freedom, right, freedom, And like I don't
- 22:27Speaker 5: know if you can hear the energy in.
- 22:28Speaker 2: Both of our voices, like like, oh do you like it,
- 22:31Speaker 2: and you're like, oh yeah.
- 22:32Speaker 5: Actually, there's that level of excitement where you go, this
- 22:35Speaker 5: isn't like it used to be. This isn't the conversation
- 22:38Speaker 5: where we're talking about Okay, Beck, tell me how much.
- 22:40Speaker 2: Debt you in? Like how do we get out of that?
- 22:42Speaker 5: Can we find an extra thirty bucks a month to
- 22:44Speaker 5: pay off that debt? And like that would have been
- 22:46Speaker 5: unfathomable to you for a long time, where were like
- 22:49Speaker 5: the I can't find that, Like where would I get
- 22:51Speaker 5: an extra thirty dollars?
- 22:52Speaker 2: Like and when you started on the show, you were
- 22:55Speaker 2: talking about.
- 22:55Speaker 5: Like, oh, sometimes I have seventy nine cents in my account,
- 22:57Speaker 5: but I can make that work, and like that's good
- 23:00Speaker 5: and that's fine, and we still hold those like I
- 23:02Speaker 5: don't know if we call them values, but like sometimes
- 23:04Speaker 5: we still like that totally.
- 23:06Speaker 2: We just are who we are.
- 23:07Speaker 5: But like you've set up the frameworks to start building
- 23:10Speaker 5: your financial future.
- 23:12Speaker 2: That feels good.
- 23:13Speaker 4: It feels so good. And that freedom could even just
- 23:16Speaker 4: be like going to bed at night and knowing that
- 23:17Speaker 4: a deck collector is not calling you. You don't have
- 23:19Speaker 4: a miscall from them, no one's waiting for money. You
- 23:22Speaker 4: just that anxiety is kind of gone. So I really
- 23:26Speaker 4: do hope we can get we.
- 23:27Speaker 2: Have a thousand decent we can get there. And I
- 23:29Speaker 2: wish that for literally everybody in there.
- 23:31Speaker 4: Absolutely. Okay, so freedom feels like a pretty big one, yes,
- 23:35Speaker 4: because it was yeah oh yeah, So where do we
- 23:38Speaker 4: even go from there?
- 23:39Speaker 2: Okay? The next one is growth?
- 23:41Speaker 5: Okay, so like probably not in the way that you're
- 23:43Speaker 5: expecting me to say, but like freedom is exciting, but
- 23:47Speaker 5: growth is what makes it happen. So like, you can't
- 23:50Speaker 5: just be free one day. You can't just wake up
- 23:52Speaker 5: and be like, I'm free, I'm moving to Bali and
- 23:53Speaker 5: I'm just not going to think about finances. Growth is
- 23:56Speaker 5: what makes it possible. And unfortunately, the truth is growth
- 23:59Speaker 5: doesn't feel.
- 24:00Speaker 4: A nice It sucks growing pains.
- 24:03Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 24:05Speaker 5: Like someone said the other day, I can't even remember
- 24:08Speaker 5: what or else. It's probably either a TikTok or a
- 24:10Speaker 5: podcast I was listening to. They were like, I just
- 24:12Speaker 5: don't feel ready, and they were like, ready's not a feeling.
- 24:16Speaker 2: Ready is a choice.
- 24:17Speaker 5: Ready is a choice, Like you say, Okay, I'm ready,
- 24:19Speaker 5: I'm just going to do it like I feel like
- 24:22Speaker 5: so much of the time, especially women, we say I
- 24:25Speaker 5: just don't feel ready, like we overanalyze things. I just
- 24:28Speaker 5: don't feel prepared. No, no, no, it's not a feeling. Yeah,
- 24:32Speaker 5: put that in the bin. It is our choice. Growth
- 24:35Speaker 5: is a choice, and you just chose to start doing it.
- 24:38Speaker 5: And it's a really small decision at the very start,
- 24:41Speaker 5: and then all of a sudden you've got twelve hundred
- 24:43Speaker 5: dollars in your Sharesa's account. It's showing up again and
- 24:47Speaker 5: again and committing to something over the long time is
- 24:50Speaker 5: choosing progress over perfection.
- 24:52Speaker 2: And that's the growth.
- 24:53Speaker 5: That I'm wishing for you, not oh my gosh, I
- 24:56Speaker 5: really hope that next year you get a thirty thousand
- 24:58Speaker 5: dollars pay increase and like money win. Like it's really
- 25:03Speaker 5: about being consistent. It's that twenty dollars a week that
- 25:07Speaker 5: you are saving. Done steadily, you can change your life
- 25:11Speaker 5: more than just like a one off burst of massive energy. Yeah,
- 25:14Speaker 5: Like we talk in our community all the time, like
- 25:17Speaker 5: what are things that you could do to like get
- 25:18Speaker 5: some extra cash in the door.
- 25:19Speaker 2: And that's so good.
- 25:20Speaker 5: And you might go sell all your clothes at a
- 25:22Speaker 5: market or you might like cull the stuff at home,
- 25:24Speaker 5: put it on Facebook marketplace. You might go do like
- 25:27Speaker 5: air tasker tasks. It doesn't matter, like you might be
- 25:29Speaker 5: hustling to get some cash in the door. But if
- 25:33Speaker 5: you just have that hustle for one weekend and be like,
- 25:35Speaker 5: I'm going to smash this out of the park and
- 25:37Speaker 5: you make five hundred bucks, money win, But like sorry,
- 25:41Speaker 5: the roundups are.
- 25:43Speaker 2: More powerful in the long term totally. Like you could.
- 25:46Speaker 5: Hustle, and if I sat you down and said, beck,
- 25:48Speaker 5: if you hustled all weekend and got five hundred bucks cash,
- 25:51Speaker 5: you'd probably be like, yeah, money win. That's a good
- 25:53Speaker 5: weekend totally, But like sorry, slow and steady wins the race.
- 25:57Speaker 5: And it's actually not that sexy growth. He's not sexy.
- 26:00Speaker 5: It is not glamorous, and sometimes it can just feel
- 26:02Speaker 5: like showing up with consistency, putting away twenty bucks a week,
- 26:05Speaker 5: like automating it so it automatically goes into your savings
- 26:08Speaker 5: or your investments, or into your debt repayments, and letting
- 26:11Speaker 5: that habit change your life more than just those one
- 26:15Speaker 5: off bursts of like I'm finally motivated and I'm going
- 26:17Speaker 5: to get out of debt. I'm going to do this
- 26:18Speaker 5: whole budget and cash flow and I'm going to find
- 26:20Speaker 5: five hundred bucks and then I'm going to put it
- 26:22Speaker 5: onto my debt and then I'm too exhausted to think
- 26:25Speaker 5: about it again.
- 26:25Speaker 2: So let's just like not think about that again. Yeah.
- 26:28Speaker 5: Yeah, And we have all been there, especially me because
- 26:31Speaker 5: I have ADHD and I'm really good at locking into something.
- 26:34Speaker 5: It's also about getting curious instead of getting embarrassed about
- 26:39Speaker 5: what you don't know, and realizing that literally every silly
- 26:42Speaker 5: question is actually a step towards power.
- 26:45Speaker 4: Yes, and like we all say.
- 26:47Speaker 2: There's no silly questions, like, I've heard of silly questions.
- 26:50Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm also happy to answer them because I know
- 26:53Speaker 5: that they're not coming from.
- 26:54Speaker 2: A silly place. You might go, oh, it's a silly question,
- 26:56Speaker 2: but what's this? Sorry? Why is that silly? Were you
- 26:59Speaker 2: taught before?
- 27:00Speaker 4: Exactly?
- 27:02Speaker 5: I think a silly question is a question that you
- 27:03Speaker 5: ask a million times over, but you never listen to
- 27:05Speaker 5: the response. Yes, that's silly, And if you kept asking
- 27:09Speaker 5: me back, I'd be like, that's a silly question because
- 27:10Speaker 5: we've been here before.
- 27:13Speaker 2: Different if you're.
- 27:13Speaker 4: Not, if you can't absorb it, because it's quite complicated.
- 27:15Speaker 2: No, that's a different story. By that's your name, we
- 27:17Speaker 2: get story.
- 27:18Speaker 5: Yeah, different story building resilience as well, So when something
- 27:23Speaker 5: unexpected happens, like a bill pops up, which, by the way,
- 27:26Speaker 5: this season, I feel like we're all just there's going
- 27:29Speaker 5: to be a bill. It's gonna come going to There's
- 27:32Speaker 5: going to be someone who comes and pokes you and goes, hey,
- 27:34Speaker 5: did you forget that sixty bucks?
- 27:36Speaker 2: You go, what the hell?
- 27:37Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 27:37Speaker 2: I got a parking ticket the other day. Oh no,
- 27:40Speaker 2: I never get parking tickets. Bare I think you should
- 27:42Speaker 2: you get parking tickets. I don't get parking tickets.
- 27:45Speaker 4: It's not like us.
- 27:46Speaker 5: And I thought that I was doing the right thing.
- 27:48Speaker 5: It said like one hour zone, and I was in
- 27:50Speaker 5: a rush. And then it turns out it was like
- 27:52Speaker 5: a one hour zone for all the times that it
- 27:53Speaker 5: wasn't a male zone and it's a male zone between
- 27:56Speaker 5: ten and twelve pm, males only. And I was like, yeah, okay,
- 28:00Speaker 5: I'm not a male and the male man must have
- 28:03Speaker 5: wanted to come because I ended up with one hundred
- 28:05Speaker 5: and twenty two dollars.
- 28:06Speaker 2: Fine, I think you should fight it. I already paid it.
- 28:10Speaker 2: Oh god, I already paid it.
- 28:13Speaker 4: The freedom this is what we talk about freedom.
- 28:14Speaker 2: I already paid it.
- 28:15Speaker 5: But I know it's on me because I should have
- 28:18Speaker 5: read the sign better. But I was just stoked that
- 28:20Speaker 5: I saw a one hour zone any of the shop
- 28:23Speaker 5: that I needed to go to, and it's Christmas and
- 28:25Speaker 5: I was in a rush, you know.
- 28:27Speaker 2: No I was, Oh yeah, it was annoyed.
- 28:28Speaker 5: The fine cost me more than the present I was buying.
- 28:31Speaker 5: Oh no, anyway, it doesn't matter. But I think that
- 28:35Speaker 5: it's being resilient so that if that happens to you
- 28:37Speaker 5: as well, or if a market dip happens, or there's
- 28:40Speaker 5: a job change, like, we can adapt and we don't
- 28:43Speaker 5: have to spiral, and that doesn't send us completely off.
- 28:45Speaker 5: Because I pulled money out of my emergency fund to
- 28:48Speaker 5: pay for that. Yeah, so I was completely fine, and
- 28:52Speaker 5: I was annoyed. I didn't like it, but that financial
- 28:57Speaker 5: impact didn't change my ability to pay my mortgage or
- 29:01Speaker 5: you know what. I come from a place of privilege.
- 29:03Speaker 5: But I also need to point out that I wasn't
- 29:05Speaker 5: always this way. I had to build this from the
- 29:07Speaker 5: ground up myself. So when I talk about, like, oh,
- 29:10Speaker 5: I have multiple mortgages, some people will be like, you're
- 29:12Speaker 5: so entitled. No no, no, no, I worked so damn
- 29:16Speaker 5: hard for that. And if I can do that, you
- 29:18Speaker 5: can do that too, Yes, you can do that, Like
- 29:20Speaker 5: it can't be that hard if I can do it,
- 29:22Speaker 5: because I'm telling you right now, I'm not the smartest
- 29:23Speaker 5: person in the entire world, and if I was, I
- 29:26Speaker 5: would just have a podcast.
- 29:28Speaker 4: Oh there you go.
- 29:29Speaker 2: Also catching your own triggers.
- 29:31Speaker 5: Yes, So whether it is like sales and you're getting
- 29:34Speaker 5: a little bit like excited about the sales, or comparison
- 29:37Speaker 5: or guilt spending, let's learn how to pause before like
- 29:40Speaker 5: autopilot takes over and we're already down at Tjmax buying
- 29:44Speaker 5: more sale Christmas stuff.
- 29:46Speaker 1: You know.
- 29:47Speaker 5: Also, we need to redefine our energy. That sounds really
- 29:54Speaker 5: hippie dippy. Doesn't it redefine your ends? I wouldn't pick
- 29:58Speaker 5: that from you, redefine your identity and energy because I
- 30:02Speaker 5: think so many times we just decide that something is
- 30:05Speaker 5: our narrative because we just.
- 30:06Speaker 2: Have felt it for so long that well it must
- 30:08Speaker 2: be true. Yeah, I know what you mean, Like, oh, well.
- 30:11Speaker 5: I'm bad with money, Yeah, so was I. At one point,
- 30:14Speaker 5: would you say I'm bad with money?
- 30:15Speaker 4: Now, beck, I wouldn't think so.
- 30:17Speaker 2: Well, I mean sometimes bad money. We've got a podcast.
- 30:20Speaker 5: But but we don't need to define ourselves at all.
- 30:24Speaker 5: But so many of us define ourselves as I am
- 30:27Speaker 5: someone who's bad with money. That's why I have to
- 30:29Speaker 5: listen to Sheese on the Money. You're someone who is
- 30:33Speaker 5: proactive around money.
- 30:34Speaker 2: Exactly.
- 30:34Speaker 5: He wants to be really good with money. You are capable,
- 30:37Speaker 5: you can improve every single day. Like, sorry, what is
- 30:42Speaker 5: even bad with money? He's bad with money?
- 30:44Speaker 2: Donald Trump?
- 30:45Speaker 4: Exactly, exactly, exactly.
- 30:47Speaker 2: Do you know what?
- 30:48Speaker 5: Like?
- 30:48Speaker 2: I know you'd be like, oh, is he really his
- 30:49Speaker 2: a billionaire? Yeah? Do you know how many times he's
- 30:51Speaker 2: got bankrupt? He is bad with money. He's so nothing
- 30:56Speaker 2: he is He should be.
- 30:57Speaker 5: Grateful and standing on that podium being like I'm grateful
- 31:00Speaker 5: for my intergenerational wealth.
- 31:02Speaker 2: Yes, because that is what he's holding him up.
- 31:04Speaker 4: That's it. Without it, he might be prob.
- 31:06Speaker 2: We're not bad her money. No, he bat it money.
- 31:08Speaker 5: Oh yeah. Anyway, I think it's becoming more like yourself,
- 31:13Speaker 5: not about becoming a new you. You don't need to
- 31:16Speaker 5: completely redefine yourself and be like, oh well I need
- 31:18Speaker 5: to find this new identity.
- 31:19Speaker 4: Yeah, no, who are you?
- 31:21Speaker 2: What do you like?
- 31:22Speaker 4: That's such a good point because I feel like I
- 31:25Speaker 4: am prone to overspending. Because I know that I'm prone
- 31:27Speaker 4: to overspending. It I'm just can you.
- 31:30Speaker 2: Just justify it because you're like, oh that's so me.
- 31:33Speaker 4: Yeah, like, oh, I don't really have much self control,
- 31:35Speaker 4: but I'm like I could. If I start telling people
- 31:37Speaker 4: or telling myself I had self control, maybe i'd have
- 31:40Speaker 4: self control.
- 31:40Speaker 2: You can literally make anything up and make it stick. Yeah,
- 31:43Speaker 2: you really care? Like it's actually crazy?
- 31:46Speaker 5: Do you know what is going to be one of
- 31:48Speaker 5: my favorite things to live into twenty twenty six?
- 31:51Speaker 2: Delusion?
- 31:52Speaker 5: Oh yeah, sorry, if I can see somebody else has
- 31:54Speaker 5: already done something, yeah, why can't I?
- 31:57Speaker 4: Next on this is delusion. We wish that, we wish
- 32:00Speaker 4: that for you in tween queens.
- 32:02Speaker 2: Yeah, but not delusion, not delusion.
- 32:04Speaker 4: No, the next one is tough. I think it's something
- 32:08Speaker 4: we will struggle with.
- 32:09Speaker 2: Delusion.
- 32:10Speaker 4: I've got so much delusion delusion, and I think they
- 32:13Speaker 4: go hand in hand. Confidence.
- 32:15Speaker 5: Yes, but you get more confidence by being more delulu exactly.
- 32:18Speaker 5: It's so as I said, I wish more Delulu on you.
- 32:21Speaker 4: Yes, the delulu comes first, and then the confidence from
- 32:25Speaker 4: the delulu exactly.
- 32:27Speaker 2: Like confidence.
- 32:28Speaker 5: This goes back to like me saying, oh I'm not
- 32:30Speaker 5: ready okay, but it's not a feeling, it's a choice.
- 32:34Speaker 5: Like being confident is a choice every single time, I
- 32:38Speaker 5: like get on Instagram and ask people, Hey, I want
- 32:41Speaker 5: to do it like a Q and a sesh, like
- 32:43Speaker 5: let's have like a little chat love catching up with
- 32:45Speaker 5: the community, and like, oh my god, some of your
- 32:47Speaker 5: questions are so unhinged. I love it. But always it'll
- 32:50Speaker 5: come up like how are you so confident? How are
- 32:53Speaker 5: you so good at public speaking? I actually just write
- 32:57Speaker 5: a little bit of delusion, but putting that aside, I
- 33:00Speaker 5: just choose that, like I'm not inherently confident, Like I
- 33:05Speaker 5: can pick it.
- 33:06Speaker 2: Do you want me to.
- 33:06Speaker 5: Stand in front of the mirror and pick apart every
- 33:08Speaker 5: single thing I'm not entirely confident about about my body?
- 33:12Speaker 2: Great, I can do that perfectly.
- 33:13Speaker 5: My personality, Oh, I can rip a new one for myself,
- 33:16Speaker 5: Like I can shred myself in a way that nobody
- 33:19Speaker 5: else could. And I know you can too, Like nobody
- 33:22Speaker 5: else is ever as mean to you as you.
- 33:24Speaker 2: Are to yourself.
- 33:25Speaker 5: And once you realize that, you can flip the narrative
- 33:28Speaker 5: and be like, do you know what, no one else
- 33:29Speaker 5: can be as nice to me as I can be
- 33:31Speaker 5: to me. No one's going to have my back in
- 33:33Speaker 5: the same way that I have my own back, because
- 33:36Speaker 5: it doesn't matter how much you love somebody, you're the
- 33:39Speaker 5: only choice for you. If every single person you've ever
- 33:43Speaker 5: known leaves your life, who you left with, yes, yourself.
- 33:46Speaker 5: So you've got to have your own back. And I
- 33:48Speaker 5: think it's true the hardest because when we loop this
- 33:51Speaker 5: back to money, confidence is not about how much money
- 33:54Speaker 5: you have in your bank account. I was in debt
- 33:57Speaker 5: when I started my business. As I said, we ride
- 33:59Speaker 5: on delusion. It's about the stories and the narrative that
- 34:03Speaker 5: you tell yourself. If you are consistently telling yourself you
- 34:06Speaker 5: are not good enough, what are you going to start
- 34:08Speaker 5: believing You're really going to believe it? Well, I believe
- 34:11Speaker 5: when I'm like, oh my god, I'm so bad at this,
- 34:13Speaker 5: Like I've just chosen to not be good at it.
- 34:15Speaker 2: Like that's exactly it.
- 34:16Speaker 5: And my wish for you is the kind of confidence,
- 34:20Speaker 5: like I'm not expecting you to get up on a
- 34:22Speaker 5: stage and do a keynote. That's a lot, but it's
- 34:26Speaker 5: the kind of confidence that drowns out the voice that
- 34:29Speaker 5: says you're not ready, or you're not enough yeah, or
- 34:33Speaker 5: that that's not for you. That's like how many times.
- 34:36Speaker 5: Do you go, oh, well, that's nice for them, but
- 34:38Speaker 5: that couldn't happen for me.
- 34:40Speaker 4: Yeah, Or I couldn't be that kind of pa I couldn't.
- 34:42Speaker 2: Oh no, like her, it's not true. Yeah, she negotiated
- 34:45Speaker 2: a pay rise like that's very her.
- 34:47Speaker 4: Like, yeah, ah, that's I.
- 34:48Speaker 2: Don't have the confidence. No, you do.
- 34:52Speaker 4: That's the thing, Like I'm going to.
- 34:53Speaker 2: Slap you don't. It's twenty twenty five, nearly twenty twenty six.
- 34:57Speaker 2: You shouldn't slap people.
- 34:58Speaker 4: But like, I think you're allowed.
- 35:00Speaker 5: I would, though she would, I would go do you
- 35:02Speaker 5: think of that? And confidence is I don't know. It's
- 35:05Speaker 5: that little voice in the back of your head where
- 35:08Speaker 5: rach just says, oh no, not yet, not yet, You're
- 35:10Speaker 5: not ready. Do you know you can fight with that
- 35:13Speaker 5: little voice in your head.
- 35:14Speaker 1: You can.
- 35:14Speaker 5: You might seem a little bit unhinged, but you can
- 35:18Speaker 5: do whatever you want. Yeah, isn't that cool? Like I
- 35:21Speaker 5: am not embracing free will nearly enough.
- 35:24Speaker 2: Yeah, that's so true. Like, sorry, you're telling me that. Sorry.
- 35:28Speaker 2: If I go back to six year old Victoria and
- 35:31Speaker 2: I told her you can do whatever you want, go,
- 35:33Speaker 2: can you go to the supermarket and get fruit lives
- 35:35Speaker 2: and eat them for dinner.
- 35:36Speaker 5: I literally could beck, we are not embracing our free
- 35:40Speaker 5: will enough. And you know when you flip it, that's
- 35:43Speaker 5: not confidence. But like you're saying I could stand up
- 35:46Speaker 5: for myself.
- 35:47Speaker 2: You're saying that I could just decide. Do you know what?
- 35:49Speaker 2: My body's pretty bloody good. Yeah, what a flipping narrative.
- 35:54Speaker 2: I know, Like ask for the pay rise? What's the
- 35:57Speaker 2: worst that could happen? Yeah?
- 35:58Speaker 5: They say no, and you go, okay, thank you so
- 36:00Speaker 5: much for that experience, Like you knew you deserved the
- 36:03Speaker 5: yes because you've done all the time, You've done all
- 36:05Speaker 5: the research and I know that you did.
- 36:08Speaker 2: But like, what's the worst thing they could say?
- 36:09Speaker 1: No?
- 36:10Speaker 5: Thanks for the experience in negotiating. I'm coming back to
- 36:12Speaker 5: you in six months. Yeah, it totally starts interesting. Start investing,
- 36:17Speaker 5: like you don't need thousands of dollars?
- 36:19Speaker 2: Do you know how much you need? Back?
- 36:21Speaker 4: Dollar?
- 36:21Speaker 2: One dollar even less?
- 36:23Speaker 4: Sometimes yep?
- 36:24Speaker 5: And how much did you start with? I think you
- 36:26Speaker 5: started with the free money because you use so.
- 36:30Speaker 2: You can even start for free because I'll just give
- 36:32Speaker 2: you ten bucks exactly.
- 36:34Speaker 5: Make sure that there are a link to our Shares's
- 36:36Speaker 5: code is in the show notes, so that if you
- 36:39Speaker 5: want to start with literally nothing and you just want
- 36:41Speaker 5: to invest with my money, you can, but I think
- 36:44Speaker 5: it's investing. But then not knocking your confidence when the
- 36:47Speaker 5: market wobbles a little bit and going.
- 36:49Speaker 2: No, no, no, no no, this is going to happen. This
- 36:51Speaker 2: is part of the journey.
- 36:52Speaker 5: We need to move past analysis paralysis by taking like
- 36:57Speaker 5: one step forward, even if those steps aren't perfect, even
- 37:00Speaker 5: if they're smaller than you kind of hoped them to be. Sorry,
- 37:03Speaker 5: they're still steps in the right direction, not exactly, and
- 37:06Speaker 5: I would be saying no to over committing. Sorry, I'm
- 37:10Speaker 5: so good at that. So this is maybe just like
- 37:11Speaker 5: a little side note for me story devine. Stop overspending,
- 37:14Speaker 5: stop over committing. Yeah, stop it, because I'm just doing
- 37:19Speaker 5: things just because everybody else is sometimes and.
- 37:23Speaker 2: You just don't need to. You just don't need to.
- 37:26Speaker 2: I didn't even like it.
- 37:28Speaker 4: So do you think you can go without good? Probably? Can?
- 37:31Speaker 2: Right. It's like how many.
- 37:33Speaker 5: Times have I said yes to the third coffee of
- 37:35Speaker 5: the day because my whole team are going down for
- 37:37Speaker 5: the coffee and I don't want to miss out.
- 37:39Speaker 2: But then get back to my desk and I'm all
- 37:41Speaker 2: shaky because I shouldn't have.
- 37:42Speaker 5: Said yes to the third coffee because I know I
- 37:44Speaker 5: can't have three coffees, but I just wanted to be involved.
- 37:46Speaker 2: I know, why is that me? Anyway?
- 37:49Speaker 5: I think it's about designing a life that looks different
- 37:51Speaker 5: from everybody else's because it just suits you, it suits
- 37:55Speaker 5: what you want to do, and knowing that that is
- 37:57Speaker 5: exactly what is right for you and exactly where you
- 37:59Speaker 5: should be exactly Like and the best thing I have
- 38:02Speaker 5: for confidence is stop looking at other people and just going, oh,
- 38:05Speaker 5: they're so confident.
- 38:06Speaker 4: Yes, And you know what's.
- 38:07Speaker 5: Crazy of it, because like that doesn't mean they actually are.
- 38:10Speaker 5: They could be completely masking.
- 38:13Speaker 4: You never know. The thing about confidence is like our
- 38:16Speaker 4: brains are so powerful and we are completely capable of
- 38:20Speaker 4: doing anything. The only thing holding us back is our
- 38:23Speaker 4: level of confidence, or this thing that we put on ourselves,
- 38:25Speaker 4: like oh, I'm not a good speaker, but say ah,
- 38:28Speaker 4: and you can be. It's just the confidence.
- 38:30Speaker 2: Level is a choice. Literally, everything is a choice.
- 38:33Speaker 5: And if a mediocre, middle aged white man can do it,
- 38:36Speaker 5: why the hell can't we?
- 38:37Speaker 2: Well, why the hell not?
- 38:38Speaker 5: I said exactly, So I'm going to wrap it up
- 38:41Speaker 5: here as like a little gift with a very big
- 38:44Speaker 5: red bow on it. So as we close out this
- 38:46Speaker 5: year and I guess step into the next, as much
- 38:50Speaker 5: as we've had a laundry list of like probably forty
- 38:52Speaker 5: minutes of me being like.
- 38:53Speaker 2: A peace and joy I love.
- 38:56Speaker 5: My wish for you is actually very very simple. It
- 38:59Speaker 5: is peace in your mind and in your money. It
- 39:03Speaker 5: is finding joy in the small things and also the large. Like,
- 39:07Speaker 5: don't get me wrong, like we can still celebrate the large,
- 39:09Speaker 5: but like I promise, the large things feel even larger
- 39:13Speaker 5: when you can celebrate the small things too. Yeah, it's
- 39:17Speaker 5: the freedom to choose differently and live on your own terms.
- 39:22Speaker 5: It's the growth that actually comes from showing up for yourself.
- 39:25Speaker 2: Again and again and again, and then you're going to.
- 39:27Speaker 5: Look back on yourself in twelve months and be like,
- 39:29Speaker 5: oh my god, I am a different, better, more well rounded,
- 39:33Speaker 5: more well adjusted, confident human being. And I want you
- 39:37Speaker 5: to have the confidence to have your own back even
- 39:40Speaker 5: when it feels really hard, because it does feel really
- 39:42Speaker 5: hard sometimes it does. Yeah, and like you're never gonna
- 39:45Speaker 5: I'm so sorry, like imposter syndrome.
- 39:48Speaker 2: I believe in it fully, but I also just disregard it.
- 39:51Speaker 2: I have it. Yeah, I have just decided whatever.
- 39:54Speaker 4: Honestly, it does fade over time, So if you.
- 39:56Speaker 2: Have a will, when is it going to fade? Approximately?
- 39:59Speaker 2: I still feel like someone it's going to come.
- 40:00Speaker 5: Knocking and be like, who gave you a podcast that
- 40:04Speaker 5: you run a mortgage broking business?
- 40:05Speaker 2: Are you insane?
- 40:07Speaker 4: The voice does get quieter, though, so stick with it. It
- 40:09Speaker 4: was pretty loud for me, but I understand.
- 40:12Speaker 5: But that's where I have to be quite aggressive in
- 40:14Speaker 5: choosing yeah to show up and going no, if other
- 40:18Speaker 5: people can do this, I can do this.
- 40:20Speaker 1: No.
- 40:20Speaker 5: If you know my friends believe in me, I should
- 40:23Speaker 5: also believe in me. If Victoria believes in me, I do, like, yeah,
- 40:27Speaker 5: do you know what I mean? Like it's a choice,
- 40:29Speaker 5: and for some people the imposters injury, it does fade.
- 40:32Speaker 5: For other people like I just feel like the more
- 40:34Speaker 5: stuff I do, I go, are you sure? Like, are
- 40:36Speaker 5: you're gonna let me do this?
- 40:38Speaker 1: Like?
- 40:38Speaker 5: What do you mean?
- 40:40Speaker 2: I'm grateful for it, but I'm delulu.
- 40:43Speaker 4: Start trying to view yourself the way your friends see you,
- 40:46Speaker 4: you know? Yeah, So I think it's a great place
- 40:48Speaker 4: to leave it. I agree from all of us that
- 40:50Speaker 4: she's on the Money. We are so proud of you.
- 40:52Speaker 4: Merry Christmas.
- 40:54Speaker 2: We really do.
- 40:54Speaker 4: Love you and we cannot wait to see what you
- 40:56Speaker 4: create in twenty twenty six.
- 40:58Speaker 2: But this is also not goodbye.
- 40:59Speaker 5: Okay, so we are not going anywhere over this holiday season.
- 41:03Speaker 5: Your other favorite podcasts might be putting their feet up,
- 41:05Speaker 5: but not us, No, So make sure that you are subscribed,
- 41:09Speaker 5: because we'll be right back in your ears with fresh episodes,
- 41:12Speaker 5: hanging out with all of you literally all summer all
- 41:15Speaker 5: New Years.
- 41:16Speaker 2: You think that are we going to stop? No, sorry,
- 41:19Speaker 2: we committed to.
- 41:20Speaker 5: The small steps and now they are consistent podcasts exactly.
- 41:24Speaker 2: So have a really good Christmas tomorrow.
- 41:26Speaker 5: If you don't celebrate Christmas, I just hope you have
- 41:28Speaker 5: a good flipping day.
- 41:29Speaker 2: Have a great day.
- 41:30Speaker 4: See you guys, by guys.
