- 0:00SPEAKER_01: Welcome to the Preferred List, a podcast about the people behind the best wedding days.
- 0:05SPEAKER_01: I'm James, a wedding filmmaker.
- 0:07SPEAKER_01: I've spent years in the industry working alongside incredible vendors, and this show is all about real conversations with the ones who make it happen.
- 0:14SPEAKER_01: Whether you're a vendor or a couple, you'll get honest insight, good stories, and maybe a little inspiration along the way.
- 0:21SPEAKER_01: Let's meet today's wedding vendor.
- 0:23SPEAKER_01: Hey Jamie, how's it going?
- 0:24SPEAKER_00: Great.
- 0:24SPEAKER_00: How are you?
- 0:25SPEAKER_01: Good.
- 0:25SPEAKER_01: So glad to have you on.
- 0:26SPEAKER_01: Jamie is a unique vendor.
- 0:28SPEAKER_01: One that might get overlooked but shouldn't, right?
- 0:31SPEAKER_01: We've been talking about this a little bit.
- 0:32SPEAKER_00: A little bit.
- 0:33SPEAKER_01: Jamie runs the event nanny and co.
- 0:36SPEAKER_01: She is an event nanny.
- 0:37SPEAKER_01: So think all the littles, right?
- 0:39SPEAKER_01: All the littles that run around and cause a ruckus.
- 0:42SPEAKER_01: Jamie would be there to keep the ruckus from happening.
- 0:46SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 0:47SPEAKER_01: But we're gonna dive into more about her business, her background, and why she even started this in the first place.
- 0:53SPEAKER_01: But before we do, we're gonna talk a little bit more about the venue that we're at today.
- 0:59SPEAKER_01: Jewmore Estate is a luxury wedding venue located in the rolling farmlands of southern Lancaster County.
- 1:04SPEAKER_01: The 16,000 square foot brick Georgian mansion, located on the second highest elevation in the county, was built in 1938 as a party house for newspaper magnet John Steinman.
- 1:16SPEAKER_01: It provides robust views of forestry, hillsides, and even the city of Lancaster skyline.
- 1:21SPEAKER_01: The estate's long-standing legacy of elegance and hospitality continues to flourish, becoming a place where magical memories are made and couples' most important days come to life.
- 1:32SPEAKER_01: It also provides the unparalleled Drewmore Estate experience for weddings and events of all sizes.
- 1:37SPEAKER_01: From the mansion and formal gardens to the grand tent and carriage house, every event at Drewmore Estate becomes more than a celebration.
- 1:45SPEAKER_01: It becomes a part of history.
- 1:48SPEAKER_01: And I will say it's just so fun, Jamie, to be able to connect with all these vendors at a local venue.
- 1:56SPEAKER_01: And even just like hear the story that they have of the venue, but have uh this chance for new people to meet each other.
- 2:04SPEAKER_01: Absolutely and even just like old friends to say hello and and kind of catch up and see how things are going.
- 2:10SPEAKER_01: But we're talking the event nanny and co.
- 2:12SPEAKER_01: today.
- 2:13SPEAKER_01: Well, I want to be so excited to hear more about your journey and kind of like why you started this.
- 2:17SPEAKER_01: So let's just start there.
- 2:18SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 2:18SPEAKER_01: Give us a little bit of the background of where this business idea came from and and your experience.
- 2:24SPEAKER_00: Okay, so the idea stemmed from I was doom scrolling on TikTok one night and I saw a video for uh someone who does Las Vegas nannying.
- 2:36SPEAKER_00: So when families go on vacation, they have someone there to kind of take care of their children.
- 2:40SPEAKER_00: Then it took me down a rabbit hole and I was uh looking around Lancaster County to see is there anything like this?
- 2:48SPEAKER_00: Um, I have an adult son who um does have a load of student loan debt.
- 2:56SPEAKER_00: So I was wondering, how can I help?
- 2:59SPEAKER_00: How can I bring in extra income?
- 3:00SPEAKER_00: How can I, you know, try to make his life a little bit easier?
- 3:04SPEAKER_00: And I realized that there's not a lot of vendors like this in our area.
- 3:10SPEAKER_00: So then I started down um, what can I do?
- 3:13SPEAKER_00: How can I make this um a hyper fixation for the next two weeks?
- 3:17SPEAKER_00: So I spent days and nights figuring out how you start a business, how you start an LLC, how you get your EIN, the insurance.
- 3:25SPEAKER_00: And one afternoon, I decided to take myself to lunch at Chili's and get the three for ten meal.
- 3:31SPEAKER_01: And Chili's Chili's.
- 3:33SPEAKER_01: If you want to sponsor the podcast episode, that'd be great.
- 3:35SPEAKER_00: Naches and salsa chef's kiss.
- 3:38SPEAKER_00: Uh so I bought myself a special notebook and a pen.
- 3:40SPEAKER_00: And I sat down at Chili's for two hours and I started combing through what can the name look like?
- 3:44SPEAKER_00: What do I want?
- 3:45SPEAKER_00: And that is the moment that it started.
- 3:48SPEAKER_00: And I applied for my LLC.
- 3:51SPEAKER_00: I did not tell my husband.
- 3:52SPEAKER_00: I decided that it was better to ask forgiveness than permission.
- 3:56SPEAKER_00: So after I had all of my ducks in a row, I was like, hey, I started a business um for an event, Nanny.
- 4:04SPEAKER_00: Um and he's like, What do you mean you started a business?
- 4:08SPEAKER_00: So uh that's where it all started.
- 4:11SPEAKER_00: And seeing um on my homepage or my website, you'll see my son standing between my husband and I during our vows because he was screaming and crying.
- 4:20SPEAKER_00: And so he's in every picture of our weddings when we said I do, because I didn't have an event, nanny, uh, at the time.
- 4:27SPEAKER_00: So that is where the initial vision where it came from was to how I can I support my family and there is a need in Lancaster County and even beyond Lancaster County for these specific type of services.
- 4:41SPEAKER_01: I feel like there's so many, I have so many questions, but it's just so funny to me that you're like, hey, let me just do this, we'll figure it out, put get all of my ducks in a row, and not even know how to do any of this stuff in the first place, right?
- 4:58SPEAKER_01: Correct.
- 4:58SPEAKER_01: How do you how do you go from doom scrolling to like business owner?
- 5:04SPEAKER_01: Like even just like the mentality of it, shifting that that mentality.
- 5:08SPEAKER_00: So I feel like because I'm a mom of two boys uh who are adults, and I just feel like it's kind of the same thing.
- 5:17SPEAKER_00: You have to figure things out.
- 5:18SPEAKER_00: There's late nights, there's rules, there's things that you really don't know if you're doing right.
- 5:24SPEAKER_00: But if someone else is happy and you're taking care of someone else, then I feel like it is just gonna be a win.
- 5:31SPEAKER_00: Um, but figuring out the business space, I have kind of started trying to join the vendor community following photographers, wedding planners, because there's not a lot of pioneers uh that have, you know, dug the way um to kind of even model anything by.
- 5:51SPEAKER_00: So what do I want families to feel?
- 5:54SPEAKER_00: So I started out, what do I want my business to look like?
- 5:56SPEAKER_00: What should this, you know, trying to, you know, put myself into this shell of, you know, an event nanny.
- 6:02SPEAKER_00: But at the end of the day, I ended up realizing that I need to look at it from their perspective.
- 6:07SPEAKER_00: How do I want them to feel at the end of the day?
- 6:09SPEAKER_00: Because they are giving me the trust with their most precious thing, their children.
- 6:15SPEAKER_00: Um, so I I changed things along the way, completely redid my website because it wasn't what I wanted them to feel because I was looking at it from a business perspective.
- 6:24SPEAKER_00: But figuring out the LLC, figuring out where to find insurance.
- 6:29SPEAKER_00: Um, that was a very, very hard process.
- 6:31SPEAKER_00: I actually had an insurance agent call me and say, Hey, I have someone trying to do the same thing you are.
- 6:36SPEAKER_00: Could you help me?
- 6:36SPEAKER_00: Because I can't figure out how to get them insured.
- 6:39SPEAKER_01: Oh, interesting.
- 6:40SPEAKER_00: I didn't call him back.
- 6:42SPEAKER_01: Just left the funrest.
- 6:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you can figure that out yourself.
- 6:45SPEAKER_00: I was like, you're getting paid for that.
- 6:47SPEAKER_00: So it was not an easy process.
- 6:49SPEAKER_00: But again, I think just being a mom in the careers that I've had in the past, I think you just figure it out.
- 6:56SPEAKER_00: You just along the way, if you need to pivot.
- 7:00SPEAKER_00: I feel like just motherhood in general, being a wife, being a mom, has just gives you the strength to just you gotta figure it out.
- 7:06SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 7:07SPEAKER_01: You have to figure it out.
- 7:08SPEAKER_01: Were you doing any sort of like child care work before the event nanny and co started?
- 7:14unknown: I did not.
- 7:15SPEAKER_00: I'm just a mom.
- 7:16SPEAKER_01: Um, it's just it's interesting to me.
- 7:19SPEAKER_01: Like if someone is out there and they're listening and they have a passion for something or they've found a passion, they see a need, you're a testament that you don't need to have years and years and years of experience to jump in.
- 7:32SPEAKER_01: And maybe you're dipping your toes in the water, maybe you're just jumping in headfirst.
- 7:36SPEAKER_01: Sure.
- 7:36SPEAKER_01: Um, but there's still there's still a chance for you to to do that and try that.
- 7:40SPEAKER_00: At no point in my life did I ever dream or aspire to be a business owner.
- 7:46SPEAKER_00: Uh it never crossed my mind.
- 7:47SPEAKER_00: It was never something I work a nine to five.
- 7:49SPEAKER_00: I still work a nine to five.
- 7:50SPEAKER_00: Um, I've worked a nine to five since I was uh 18.
- 7:54SPEAKER_00: Um, I have a background in parole and probation.
- 7:57SPEAKER_00: I have background in real estate and I have medical background.
- 8:02SPEAKER_00: So pretty much every other except education.
- 8:06SPEAKER_00: Um, but I have found that I do enjoy kind of Montessori style.
- 8:12SPEAKER_00: Um, as far as the way that I like to kind of let the kids have decisions, let them kind of, you know, choose their own things instead of me saying, this is what we're gonna do today.
- 8:21SPEAKER_00: So I've kind of embraced it.
- 8:23SPEAKER_01: Not using your parole background.
- 8:25SPEAKER_00: I'm not sure.
- 8:26SPEAKER_00: I'm not.
- 8:26SPEAKER_00: We're being more of you know what, what do you want to do?
- 8:30SPEAKER_00: Um, but asking them the questions and letting them make the decisions does seem to work.
- 8:34SPEAKER_00: Uh so I don't know if that works on adults or not, but we'll have to maybe try that later on with my husband.
- 8:38SPEAKER_01: If I have too many decisions, it doesn't usually go well.
- 8:40SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
- 8:41SPEAKER_00: So then when I say, so when I have a toddler running around and I say, I need to change a diaper, and they say no, and I say, Do you want me to carry you on my piggyback or do you want to run?
- 8:51SPEAKER_00: They're given two choices with the end result being the same.
- 8:54SPEAKER_00: They're still getting on the diaper change.
- 8:56SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
- 8:56SPEAKER_00: But how do you want to have it happen?
- 8:58SPEAKER_00: Um, but yeah, business, uh trying to figure it out.
- 9:01SPEAKER_00: Um, yeah, it's been interesting.
- 9:03SPEAKER_01: So, what does a typical event look like for you?
- 9:07SPEAKER_01: Maybe you can talk to us about like the number of kids you're working with, like how you manage maybe some different types of kids because kids are all different.
- 9:15SPEAKER_00: Sure.
- 9:16SPEAKER_00: So again, the thing with us being unique is that every single event looks different.
- 9:21SPEAKER_00: So the planning starts way before uh the event day.
- 9:25SPEAKER_00: Uh, some families decide that they want to do a meet and greet because they want me to meet their child, so it's not such a shock the first day when they hand them off to me.
- 9:32SPEAKER_00: Um, but a typical event day is we show up um about an hour to two hours before, depending on the size of the event.
- 9:39SPEAKER_00: The size of the event is tailored to every single um couple or whoever's planning the event.
- 9:45SPEAKER_00: And then we have safety ratios so that we don't have five newborns with one nanny.
- 9:51SPEAKER_00: So we do have um specific ratios for all infants under the age of two.
- 9:56SPEAKER_00: It is a one-to-one situation.
- 9:58SPEAKER_00: So they get very um one-to-one individualized, personalized care.
- 10:04SPEAKER_00: And then it kind of goes up from there based on their age.
- 10:07SPEAKER_00: And so a typical event will be we'll set up again, depending on age-dependent.
- 10:11SPEAKER_00: Do we have a beating station?
- 10:12SPEAKER_00: Do we have the coloring station?
- 10:14SPEAKER_00: We have magnet tiles, we have two tents, we have tunnels, we have a ball pit.
- 10:18SPEAKER_00: Uh, so it really depends for the older kids.
- 10:20SPEAKER_00: We do have things that are a little more um STEM related, some just a whole bunch of different activities based on their ages.
- 10:28SPEAKER_00: And then the where the care takes place, again, depends on the venue, depends on the um vision or the flow of the day.
- 10:36SPEAKER_00: Some people want the children involved fully in the day on the dance floor.
- 10:39SPEAKER_00: We're on the dance floor with the kids, we're at the the dinner table having dinner with them.
- 10:43SPEAKER_00: Some of them were tucked away in a completely different space.
- 10:46SPEAKER_00: Sometimes we're in a hotel room and the kids aren't participating at all.
- 10:49SPEAKER_00: So I think that is one big misconception that we want the ch the children to not participate in.
- 10:56SPEAKER_00: And that is one aspect of it.
- 10:58SPEAKER_00: But some people want the kids to participate, but the parents just want to take a break and have some.
- 11:05SPEAKER_01: I mean, they they want to be a part of the event.
- 11:07SPEAKER_01: And you can only be a part of the event so much if you're also trying to be a parent.
- 11:12SPEAKER_01: I mean, if you're a parent, you know what that feels like.
- 11:14SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 11:14SPEAKER_00: And so um, I had one event that a um a newborn, she wanted me basically just right next to her.
- 11:22SPEAKER_00: And so I was her personalized individual nanny sitting right next to her for the entire event, and that's what she wanted, and that's what we made happen.
- 11:30SPEAKER_00: So every event, every child, every bride, every couple, every event planner, we tailor it to what your day looks like where we step in, we step out, we walk someone down the aisle.
- 11:42SPEAKER_00: If someone's not having a good time walking down the aisle, we'll bring them back.
- 11:46SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 11:46SPEAKER_00: Uh so we just tailor it to what the event flow um needs to be.
- 11:50SPEAKER_01: I'm curious if there's a couple listening and they're like on the fence, like, do we really need an event, Nanny?
- 11:55SPEAKER_01: Like, what would be, you know, the elevator pitch, so to speak, of like, why have you guys come and help out with the littles?
- 12:02SPEAKER_00: Having your day look the way that you want it to look is obviously the most important.
- 12:07SPEAKER_00: And I think just being open to having a different perspective.
- 12:12SPEAKER_00: So for example, you know, couples that say, I don't want any kids at the wedding.
- 12:15SPEAKER_00: That's great.
- 12:16SPEAKER_00: Does anyone in your bridal party have children?
- 12:19SPEAKER_00: And that's one of the main questions I ask couples when I meet them at expos or on when we're just having our first phone call.
- 12:25SPEAKER_00: And they're they usually take a take a minute and they realize that they're asking people to commit to a whole day or the day before the rehearsal, and now they have to find child care.
- 12:36SPEAKER_00: Now they might have to leave.
- 12:37SPEAKER_00: So your bridesmaid may have to leave the event early, your grandmother may have to leave early because typically the people that you're closest to are the ones that support you and the children on the day of the event.
- 12:48SPEAKER_00: So just looking at it as far as us being another vendor, just like you would, your flowers, your DJ, um, your photographer, having us kind of interweaved into the day where you can still have all the people who are closest to you, as well as having the day look exactly how you want, which means might mean no children, but then your families are a lot more relaxed because their kids are in the next room, they're in a hotel room, they're being taken care of.
- 13:14SPEAKER_00: So every person who's kind of touching your event now has peace of mind, including you.
- 13:19SPEAKER_01: What I'm hearing from you in that answer is yes, it is the couple's day, but there are a ton of people that support them, the closest even that do have the littles that just a little bit of intentionality from the couple goes a long way.
- 13:34SPEAKER_01: Sure.
- 13:34SPEAKER_01: Um, are you having uh people outside of the couple book you guys for the service?
- 13:40SPEAKER_01: So it's like not just the couple, but it's like those people that you're mentioning?
- 13:43SPEAKER_00: Correct.
- 13:44SPEAKER_00: So majority of phone calls and um inquiries that we receive are not usually the bride.
- 13:51SPEAKER_00: It's usually mother of the bride, okay, sister of the bride, um, someone in that small circle.
- 13:58SPEAKER_00: But we also do have guests who realize that, hey, me, my sister, my brother, we all have kids.
- 14:05SPEAKER_00: So sometimes it's those people reaching out.
- 14:08SPEAKER_00: So then I have to ask for the bride's contact information, the wedding planner, because as a guest, having a nanny show up to someone's no child wedding can also be a little bit um, you know, a little sketchy, a little bit, a little difficult.
- 14:24SPEAKER_00: But we typically in those instances, a lot of times what happens is it ends up being our hotel care package.
- 14:29SPEAKER_00: So we do have uh families reach out to us.
- 14:32SPEAKER_00: Sometimes they end up splitting the costs, sometimes it's just for one child that I would feel a lot better having the children with me than having a sitter at home because they still have to leave early, they still are worrying.
- 14:44SPEAKER_00: Uh, one of the other things that we do have is a nanny cam.
- 14:47SPEAKER_00: So sometimes that helps people as guests, they're not um, they're still enjoying the party, they can check in.
- 14:52SPEAKER_00: Uh, and the couple, again, still has that the vision, the flow of there's no children here, and on both sides, everyone's happy.
- 15:00SPEAKER_00: So we do have both guests and couples having um the conversation with us.
- 15:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'm curious.
- 15:05SPEAKER_01: You brought up like the babysitter kind of idea.
- 15:08SPEAKER_01: Maybe you can unpack a little bit of like what makes your business and the service that you provide that much different than so-and-so babysitter that could do the same thing.
- 15:21SPEAKER_00: Absolutely.
- 15:22SPEAKER_00: And our services do look different for people, and sometimes that does work for them.
- 15:26SPEAKER_00: I believe that the when you walk into a room that we already have set up and we have flowers and we have our sign and we have the tents and we have the fairy lights and we have the ball pit, you are getting a more elegant experience.
- 15:38SPEAKER_00: So we blend into the day.
- 15:40SPEAKER_00: The kids have the wow factor, the parents realize that they have this luxury feel to it, uh, the feeling of knowing that I'm willing to do a meet and greet and come to your house to meet your children before the day of the event.
- 15:52SPEAKER_00: You have a child who has special needs, knowing that it is a one-to-one situation, that I'm bringing four, five, six people on my team with me to make sure that every child has their needs met, um, understanding their allergies, bringing specific uh creative activities for them, having individualized um luxury gift bags for the kids, and just having that luxury white glove intentional service for them, I think is what makes us stand out from Ashley, the 16-year-old babysitter from across the street, because again, they can do a great job, absolutely.
- 16:27SPEAKER_00: But you are getting a more luxury white glove insured.
- 16:32SPEAKER_00: That's what I was gonna say.
- 16:33SPEAKER_00: We're insured our CPR background checks, our state clearances.
- 16:37SPEAKER_00: We have every uh state clearance that you can have for a non-daycare center.
- 16:41SPEAKER_00: So there's some clearances that we just can't obtain because we don't do daycare care.
- 16:46SPEAKER_00: We're on site at the venue.
- 16:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and I feel like there's um a level of experience jumping into maybe a venue that you haven't been to before and rolling with some of those punches where a babysitter might be like, oh gosh, I'm in over my head.
- 17:03SPEAKER_00: Absolutely.
- 17:03SPEAKER_00: I felt that way just the other week.
- 17:05SPEAKER_00: I was at a new venue that I was not able to tour ahead of time and it took 15 minutes just to find the parking.
- 17:11SPEAKER_00: And then I went right into the baby was napping, and then he had to get dressed to be the uh ring bearer.
- 17:19SPEAKER_00: And so just being able to navigate, being able to figure out the wedding flow if you aren't part of the wedding team ahead of time.
- 17:26SPEAKER_00: So if you haven't spoken with the planner and the photographer, there are moments that the children need to, you know, be involved in, not be involved in.
- 17:35SPEAKER_00: Um, and so figuring out that flow on the spot and blending in, which is our number one um asset that we um that we strive to provide is just blending in, being part of the team, being part of the family, having your family comfortable coming up and saying, Oh, hey, can I come and hold the baby and go walk around than if mom said no, I don't want anybody holding the baby, then we kind of navigate those family dynamics and just kind of figure out what it's like.
- 18:02SPEAKER_01: It's a lot easier for you to say no than for like sister or bro.
- 18:07SPEAKER_00: Like exactly.
- 18:09SPEAKER_00: So I had a bride that she told me, I don't want anyone to hold the baby.
- 18:12SPEAKER_00: And I was like, Okay, I got you.
- 18:14SPEAKER_00: Just tell me what you need and I'll make it happen.
- 18:16SPEAKER_00: I will be the fall guy, I will be the bad guy as long as you're comfortable knowing that what you want is what we're gonna do.
- 18:23SPEAKER_01: I just keep I keep thinking about that that story you told me with your son kind of being in the midst of everything.
- 18:31SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, man, as much as it was maybe annoying in some parts, hard to focus in other parts, you probably cherish those pictures of him being there.
- 18:41SPEAKER_01: What what would have been different if you would have had someone doing your service there for him to be in and out in the right moments?
- 18:50SPEAKER_00: I think for us it would have just been having those few special photos of just me and my husband looking back, they're absolutely adorable uh to see us having our first kiss and our son, who was uh two and a half at the time, just standing in between us.
- 19:05SPEAKER_00: But I think because you are paying for all the services, you're paying for the photography, it's your dream day.
- 19:10SPEAKER_00: And I think even if it's just for a moment, you get to have and just be in the moment without the worry, without the interruption.
- 19:18SPEAKER_00: And then 30 seconds later, you can have the you know, b-roll shoots with your son crying on the floor, picking him up, mud on his pants.
- 19:25SPEAKER_00: Um, but you can still have those moments.
- 19:27SPEAKER_00: And I think that there is a nice blend of the two that you can still have those accidental, precious moments captured, but you can also have exactly what it is that you dreamed of for this one specific day.
- 19:40SPEAKER_01: Um, it's just so fun to like hear your experience firsthand, seeing the need and just jumping right into it.
- 19:46SPEAKER_01: Are you doing any sort of we'll keep it mostly weddings, just one second?
- 19:50SPEAKER_01: Are you doing any sort of like event nanny stuff?
- 19:53SPEAKER_01: I'll go say stuff.
- 19:54SPEAKER_01: Don't hate me for saying stuff, but stuff for non-wedding events.
- 19:58SPEAKER_00: So we have several quinceaneras um that are booked already for the fall.
- 20:03SPEAKER_00: So our services translate basically the same into other events.
- 20:09SPEAKER_00: Um I would love to do some corporate events where you have, you know, maybe a Friday afternoon at uh Penn Medicine Park for the baseball game, and you want the families to enjoy, you know, the buffet, some adult sodas, but still have, you know, still have the family feel, but maybe not have to be as locked in, making sure they're not touching things, making sure they're not going downstairs, going into rooms they're not supposed to.
- 20:34SPEAKER_00: Uh, but we do have several events that are booked that aren't weddings.
- 20:38SPEAKER_00: Uh, but our care still will look the same.
- 20:41SPEAKER_00: Uh, we're doing one at Rock Litted, so I'm excited to go there.
- 20:44SPEAKER_00: Um and our space is pipe and draped off into uh it's in the event, but we're pipe and draped into the corner, so we're a part of the event, but not part of the event.
- 20:53SPEAKER_00: So the care itself basically lends itself to the venue that we're doing in the space that we're given, and then we make the plan um once we may have that decision made.
- 21:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 21:03SPEAKER_01: Okay, we'll jump back to weddings.
- 21:04SPEAKER_01: Just wanted to pause there for a second and talk about kind of the corporate side of things.
- 21:09SPEAKER_01: Um, but it is fun to see how um in business you see other opportunities, even once you've started your thing to expand and you know help serve even a different kind of clientele.
- 21:23SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
- 21:24SPEAKER_01: Um, but back into the weddings, what do you wish that parents knew um before booking your service to help them out on the on that wedding day that they're a part of?
- 21:35SPEAKER_00: I wish they knew that my goal at the end of the day is to have them trust me like they trust their family to be part of the family, that you can ask me for what you need at the last minute.
- 21:49SPEAKER_00: If you're having a crisis, I'm there.
- 21:51SPEAKER_00: Um, even if you think it is uh bougie to ask whatever question you're gonna ask, we um address that with we have a blog.
- 22:00SPEAKER_00: Tie nanny package, which is some people think that us wearing our uniform doesn't really look good the day of that's okay.
- 22:10SPEAKER_00: What do you want us to wear?
- 22:12SPEAKER_00: How do you want us to look?
- 22:13SPEAKER_00: What do you need to have your day continue to look the way that you need and still have us serve you in the way that you need?
- 22:18SPEAKER_00: Um, so I just wish that they would be comfortable enough to ask what it is of me and my team, and then know that we're going to try to support you the best way that we can, even if it doesn't look like babysitting, if it doesn't look like childcare.
- 22:36SPEAKER_00: Um, I have a really quick funny story.
- 22:39SPEAKER_00: Um, I was standing uh with behind the other bridesmaids, the ring bearer was about to go down and the soon-to-be husband came to me.
- 22:48SPEAKER_00: It was like 95 degrees.
- 22:49SPEAKER_00: He's like, Do you have any water?
- 22:51SPEAKER_00: I was like, I don't, but I have your son's sippy cup.
- 22:54SPEAKER_00: So he took the lid off his son's sippy cup and drank all of his son's water.
- 23:01SPEAKER_00: And then he was trying to get the cat back on.
- 23:03SPEAKER_00: I have the baby, and I was like, give me the cup, give me the cup, go, go, go, go, go.
- 23:06SPEAKER_00: And he goes running back down.
- 23:07SPEAKER_00: Um, it was an outdoor wedding.
- 23:09SPEAKER_00: And so just knowing that he was comfortable enough to ask me that question, I just tried to figure it out.
- 23:15SPEAKER_00: Um, and because of that, I now add different things to my day of bag so that I can support your team in ways that you never thought I could.
- 23:24SPEAKER_01: You can say yes to the water and not be a sippy cup.
- 23:27SPEAKER_00: It was so great.
- 23:29SPEAKER_01: Uh as a parent though, like we've probably all had many sips out of a sippy cup.
- 23:35SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 23:36SPEAKER_00: Whether your children want you to or not is a different story.
- 23:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 23:40SPEAKER_01: Well, they always want us to share with them, so it's only there, right?
- 23:43SPEAKER_00: Exactly, exactly.
- 23:44SPEAKER_01: Um, similar question, but more so on like the other vendors.
- 23:48SPEAKER_01: Like, what do you wish that other vendors, it could be any type of vendor, venue owners, planners, photographers, like what do you wish that they knew or or understood better about your your service that you're providing?
- 24:01SPEAKER_00: That we are a real vendor, that we are part of the team, that we are here to support uh your vision for as photographers, as caterers, as uh because it it does touch when you have children involved in your wedding, it does touch so many of those vendors.
- 24:17SPEAKER_00: When the DJ has his equipment set up and the kids are running around, um, that's what we're there for to protect the equipment.
- 24:23SPEAKER_00: The photographer who wants to get that perfect shot, we're part of it.
- 24:26SPEAKER_00: So if you tell me the timeline, then I can help support that timeline.
- 24:29SPEAKER_00: So I know we need to go have some quiet activities while the first dance is happening, while the cake cutting is happening.
- 24:35SPEAKER_00: So you're uninterrupted and able to give your best service to um your get your clients.
- 24:42SPEAKER_00: The that would be my biggest um wish for them is that I want to be part of your team and I want to support your team.
- 24:50SPEAKER_00: I don't want to be the lead.
- 24:51SPEAKER_00: I don't want to be um anything more than support for everyone who's involved so that everyone else can do what it is that they need to do because at the end of the day, the couple still gets what it is that they need um in the way that they dreamed it.
- 25:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 25:08SPEAKER_01: I mean, there's definitely weddings where we've been to kids are just running amok.
- 25:15SPEAKER_01: It's totally fine.
- 25:16SPEAKER_01: If that's what you want, if you're a couple and that's like your dream, cool.
- 25:20SPEAKER_01: If you're like, gosh, I want these kids here because they're important to us, nieces, nephews, whatever that might be, this is like the I can just picture a family photo session going so smoothly.
- 25:34SPEAKER_01: Um, if all the adults are paying attention, but so smoothly with the chance for the kids to be um paid attention to outside of the photographer, sure, the family member who's calling all the names, um, and just having everyone look and say someone like you or your team is there, like, hey, so and so, like, look here, look here, smile, smile, smile.
- 25:56SPEAKER_00: Sure.
- 25:56SPEAKER_00: We just did a wedding.
- 25:57SPEAKER_00: The photographer had a list of what which family members were to be in these specific family photos, and some of them involved the children.
- 26:04SPEAKER_00: So it was me and my team, okay, the family and all the children, and then my team came in, grabbed all the kids, pulled them back.
- 26:10SPEAKER_00: Then it was just the adults or it was just the grandkids.
- 26:12SPEAKER_00: And so in those moments, if we weren't there, it would be sister, brother, correct.
- 26:18SPEAKER_00: And then if they go out of earshot, they go running into the trees, they do all those things.
- 26:23SPEAKER_00: So that's where those little moments.
- 26:24SPEAKER_00: So when we ask people how long do they want us on their on the schedule, what time do you want us to arrive?
- 26:29SPEAKER_00: Transitions, photography, getting your your bridal makeup done.
- 26:32SPEAKER_00: Those are all things that people, I didn't think about that.
- 26:36SPEAKER_00: And so that's again what we're here for, so that we can tell you from our side, this is what we've seen, this is what we can do for you.
- 26:44SPEAKER_00: You tell me at the end of the day what it is that you want.
- 26:46SPEAKER_01: So I want to look ahead.
- 26:48SPEAKER_01: We've talked a lot about the process and how everything got started.
- 26:51SPEAKER_01: But looking ahead, where do you see this whole event nanny business, maybe yours specifically, or just in general, like where do you see it going in the next like five or ten years?
- 27:04SPEAKER_00: I do think that it is becoming more popular, more widely accepted, more familiar.
- 27:10SPEAKER_00: Um, and just having the I have some ideas as far as the way that I want to kind of change things and even not even necessarily having our nannies be on site, um, having activity corner set up, having things that are preset so that the children are free to do what it is that they need.
- 27:28SPEAKER_00: They don't need sitters, but they have extra activities and you don't have to be hands-on with those things.
- 27:32SPEAKER_00: Just um having the industry evolve into children can be part of the event, and you don't necessarily have to be hands-on, but having it evolve to just be um more widely accepted, more more familiar with planners and uh venues, that this is an option that you can offer to protect your venue as well.
- 27:57SPEAKER_00: Um, but just having it be expanded and just can look, you know, destination weddings, travel nannies, it can look um very, very take me to the fun places.
- 28:09SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
- 28:09SPEAKER_00: How can I go to Cuba with you?
- 28:11SPEAKER_00: How can I go to Mexico with you?
- 28:13SPEAKER_00: Like so many different um places that it can just expand to.
- 28:17SPEAKER_00: And I think that for me specifically, I don't know how big this can get.
- 28:22SPEAKER_00: I don't know what I can do yet because I've amazed myself in the past year just having no idea what I was doing and not having a lot of inspiration from other people.
- 28:32SPEAKER_00: Like if you're a photographer or uh even a mobile bartender, that's becoming so popular.
- 28:38SPEAKER_00: And you can kind of look to other people for inspir or even say, hey, you know what?
- 28:41SPEAKER_00: How did you do that?
- 28:42SPEAKER_01: I was gonna say there's a lot that would help you figure that out.
- 28:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 28:46SPEAKER_00: So I'm learning on the fly as far as what can I do better as a vendor to make my couples, my families feel like I'm part of the family.
- 28:56SPEAKER_00: And I actually just had someone text me yesterday that said, Would you ever for us be a private nanny just for one evening, just for an event?
- 29:07SPEAKER_00: I have an event coming up, and I was just so honored that she is um trusting me because apparently the day of her event, her son was having a hard time because he was always with mom, always with mom.
- 29:18SPEAKER_00: And for I was with him for almost 10 hours, and he cried for maybe 30 seconds.
- 29:22SPEAKER_00: So she was unbelievably happy that she could just let him go.
- 29:27SPEAKER_00: So I have to make that decision if I'm going to private nanny for anyone.
- 29:31SPEAKER_01: There we go.
- 29:32SPEAKER_01: Let's go.
- 29:33SPEAKER_01: I love that.
- 29:34SPEAKER_01: So I'd say we weren't gonna look back, but you made me think of another question.
- 29:38SPEAKER_01: Um, this will kind of be our last one before we wrap up here.
- 29:42SPEAKER_01: Um you've been in business for for a little bit now.
- 29:45SPEAKER_01: Um, I know we've we talked when things were fresh, like fresh, fresh.
- 29:50SPEAKER_01: What's one of the biggest things that you've learned maybe about yourself or about your business um in this kind of first chunk of time as the event, Nanny and go?
- 30:03SPEAKER_00: I think I have learned that I am stronger than I ever thought I was, even when I thought I was a strong person, because the late nights, the figuring the things out, the trying to make my plan perfect for the families, trying to bring the best version of myself, um, doing some extra education for Montessori style learning and just becoming a version of myself that I never had on my bingo card.
- 30:34SPEAKER_00: And just leaning more into my feeling of wanting to serve and just how can I make these people just be unbelievably happy with their service?
- 30:45SPEAKER_00: How can I have them participate in their wedding and not forget that they have children?
- 30:49SPEAKER_00: But um, just how can they just be so comfortable that they're just able to enjoy their day?
- 30:54SPEAKER_00: So I think just learning more about myself and how deep I can dig to make something happen that I am determined and the service that I provide just to be the best that it can be.
- 31:08SPEAKER_01: So I don't if you're listening to this, you've made it this far, and you don't want to one start a business and like run it to the moon, or two, hire a Jamie to be your event nanny.
