Transcript
- 0:16Speaker 1: Hey, everyone, Emily Abadi here you are listening to five
- 0:19Speaker 1: Minute Friday from Hurdle, and Wow, can you even believe
- 0:24Speaker 1: that it's about to be June on Monday? I feel
- 0:26Speaker 1: like it was just June yesterday. My birthday is at
- 0:31Speaker 1: the beginning of June, and I this is the first
- 0:37Speaker 1: birthday as I get older that I feel some kind
- 0:40Speaker 1: of way, if I'm being honest, And I believe that's
- 0:43Speaker 1: large in part because of what Tuesday's episode is about.
- 0:47Speaker 1: I'm sitting down with my obig im that I worked
- 0:50Speaker 1: with my doctor from my egg freezing, and we're talking
- 0:52Speaker 1: about the entire process. Large in part because I got
- 0:55Speaker 1: so many messages and emails asking questions and input and whatnot.
- 1:01Speaker 1: So I decided to record with her, and that process
- 1:04Speaker 1: made me do a lot of reflecting. I like to
- 1:06Speaker 1: think that I reflect regularly. I do try to journal
- 1:10Speaker 1: regularly and just be honest with myself about how I'm
- 1:14Speaker 1: feeling and where I'm at. But this process highlighted what
- 1:19Speaker 1: is in my life and what is not in my life,
- 1:21Speaker 1: and how I feel about getting older and all other
- 1:25Speaker 1: things considered, aside from the fact that I'm without a
- 1:30Speaker 1: life partner and still undecided if I want to have children.
- 1:33Speaker 2: Life is really freaking fantastic.
- 1:36Speaker 1: I am doing so many things right now that I
- 1:39Speaker 1: am so grateful for. I'm having experiences and traveling around
- 1:44Speaker 1: the world doing what I love, and having really impactful
- 1:49Speaker 1: and special conversations, and I'm doing things that are truly
- 1:54Speaker 1: beyond my dreams at the moment. And with that said,
- 1:58Speaker 1: it just it's it's kind of crazy. I can't believe
- 2:01Speaker 1: I am about to say the sentence that I am
- 2:04Speaker 1: about to be thirty eight years old. I don't feel
- 2:07Speaker 1: thirty eight years old. And there's so much more I
- 2:09Speaker 1: want to do, and so a lot of my plans
- 2:12Speaker 1: for this upcoming weekend include some reflecting, some journaling, some inventory.
- 2:20Speaker 1: I wrote a newsletter a couple of weeks ago about
- 2:23Speaker 1: this annual summit that I do with myself and I
- 2:27Speaker 1: do it every year around this time, and gave some
- 2:29Speaker 1: tips and tricks for how to go about doing that.
- 2:32Speaker 1: So if you're not yet subscribed to the Weekly Hurdle
- 2:36Speaker 1: over on my substack, I'll link it in the show
- 2:38Speaker 1: notes and check that out. Because I find that this
- 2:41Speaker 1: summit of sorts is truly something that helps me come
- 2:46Speaker 1: back to myself really get honest about where I'm at
- 2:49Speaker 1: and be intentional about where I want to go moving forward.
- 2:53Speaker 1: I would say that that is probably one of the
- 2:56Speaker 1: biggest lessons that I've really stepped into over the last
- 3:01Speaker 1: few years, the importance of being honest with myself, the
- 3:04Speaker 1: importance of allowing myself to feel and not judging those feelings,
- 3:08Speaker 1: because that act of feeling, the empowerment that comes with that,
- 3:14Speaker 1: the recognition that comes with that, it is so so important.
- 3:19Speaker 1: And so I'm feeling, I'm analyzing, I'm taking stuck, I'm
- 3:23Speaker 1: doing all the things as we move into year thirty eight,
- 3:27Speaker 1: and wow.
- 3:29Speaker 2: It is wild. June.
- 3:30Speaker 1: Here we are for my thought prompt for you this week.
- 3:34Speaker 1: I'm going to bring a question from that substack post
- 3:37Speaker 1: here to the podcast. One of the questions that I
- 3:40Speaker 1: ask myself during this personal inventory is what's going well
- 3:45Speaker 1: right now and what's not going well again? I'll repeat that,
- 3:49Speaker 1: what is going well in your life right now and
- 3:52Speaker 1: what is not going well again?
- 3:56Speaker 2: I don't want to be down there. I have so
- 3:57Speaker 2: much to celebrate.
- 3:58Speaker 1: I feel so good, But I think that I would
- 4:01Speaker 1: be remiss if I didn't say that this is really
- 4:04Speaker 1: the first time in a while that I'm just like, Wow,
- 4:06Speaker 1: we are really we're growing up and it's kind of wild.
- 4:11Speaker 2: And now a listener question.
- 4:14Speaker 1: Hey, Emily, I know you have answered many shoe questions
- 4:17Speaker 1: in the past, and I'm hoping for your guidance. I
- 4:19Speaker 1: was recently experiencing some foot issues and switched running shoes
- 4:22Speaker 1: to the New Balance ten eighty, which I am loving.
- 4:25Speaker 1: I'm exploring speedwork and a race day shoe. Can you
- 4:28Speaker 1: help explain the difference between something like the Rebel fuel
- 4:31Speaker 1: Cell or the super Comp Trainer.
- 4:34Speaker 2: Thank you so much, Shannon.
- 4:36Speaker 1: Okay, well, first and foremotion, and I want to say
- 4:38Speaker 1: good on you for knowing that different sneakers could be
- 4:43Speaker 1: used for different types of movement. Now, the New Balance
- 4:46Speaker 1: ten eighty is a classic neutral shoe. It's great for
- 4:50Speaker 1: everything from base mileage too if you want to pick
- 4:52Speaker 1: up the pace too, even if you want to run
- 4:54Speaker 1: a full marathon. But there are different sneakers that if
- 4:58Speaker 1: you have the bandwidth and the mean, you can have
- 5:01Speaker 1: in your rotation to do different things. So a shoe
- 5:06Speaker 1: like the fuel Cell Rebel, it's got a foam mid
- 5:09Speaker 1: sole and it does not have a carbon fiber plate,
- 5:11Speaker 1: but it's super light, weight. So what this is good
- 5:15Speaker 1: for is picking up the pace. Now, when we talk
- 5:18Speaker 1: about a shoe like the New Balanced SuperComp Trainer, this
- 5:22Speaker 1: might be I guess you can call.
- 5:24Speaker 2: It a legal cheat code if you want to.
- 5:27Speaker 1: It's got a massive stack of balancy foam and it's
- 5:30Speaker 1: also paired with a carbon fiber plate sandwich into the middle.
- 5:35Speaker 1: So what that means is that a carbon plate acts
- 5:37Speaker 1: like a spring and when you land your foot then
- 5:40Speaker 1: flattens the plate. When you push off, the plate snaps back,
- 5:43Speaker 1: literally propelling you forward. Now this sounds really exciting and
- 5:47Speaker 1: can help you be speedy, but I want to recommend
- 5:51Speaker 1: advise that you use a carbon plated shoe sporadically.
- 5:56Speaker 2: You want to make sure that you're taking care of
- 5:58Speaker 2: your foot.
- 5:58Speaker 1: So while something like a neutral sneaker in this case
- 6:01Speaker 1: in your rotation, the New Balance ten eighty is something
- 6:05Speaker 1: that is for regular daily mileage. The SuperComp Trainer could
- 6:08Speaker 1: be something that you're leaning into for race day, maybe
- 6:12Speaker 1: for trying on your long runs, and also for picking
- 6:15Speaker 1: up the pace. I hope that this helps and answers
- 6:18Speaker 1: your question, and if you have any other sneaker questions,
- 6:21Speaker 1: I'm all ears to reiterate plated shoes use sporadically. I
- 6:26Speaker 1: race in a plated shoe very regularly at this point
- 6:30Speaker 1: when I'm looking to get speedy with it, but for
- 6:34Speaker 1: my regular mileage for my everyday run, I'm leaning into
- 6:38Speaker 1: classic neutral options. The New Balance ten eighty is a
- 6:40Speaker 1: great one. I'm big on the Niki Vamerow. I'm big
- 6:43Speaker 1: on the Alan cloud Monster. I love a Brooks Ghost,
- 6:48Speaker 1: So lots of options, lots of different tastes for every person.
- 6:53Speaker 1: Make sure you're following along with Hurdle over on social
