- 0:21Speaker 1: Hey tolerators, listens to all the men I've tolerated before
- 0:24Speaker 1: with family Katona, your weekly look at every day misogyny.
- 0:27Speaker 1: Today is one of my favorite days. We have my perfect,
- 0:33Speaker 1: my great friend Chris DeRosa. He's back on the podcast.
- 0:36Speaker 1: You'll recognize Chris from the world renowned podcast Fixing Famous
- 0:41Speaker 1: People and our episode about the Real Housewives where he
- 0:45Speaker 1: was nice enough to talk to us about how they're
- 0:48Speaker 1: breaking barriers over there on Bravo. And Chris is here
- 0:52Speaker 1: today so I can hold space for my feelings about
- 0:56Speaker 1: Wicked Part one. Chris, when was the last time you
- 0:59Speaker 1: thought of the lyrics of defying gravity?
- 1:02Speaker 2: Today? Right before logging onto this zoom? Honestly, and this
- 1:05Speaker 2: is this is episode will be holding space for we
- 1:08Speaker 2: don't really know what, but something.
- 1:11Speaker 1: Honestly, like here's what they remember when I went to
- 1:14Speaker 1: the Ara's tour and then I listened to the all
- 1:16Speaker 1: too well ten minute version every day, and I was like,
- 1:19Speaker 1: that's meditating. I think that's what I'm gonna do with
- 1:22Speaker 1: defying gravity.
- 1:23Speaker 2: Yeah, well, you were holding space for Taylor like that? Yeah,
- 1:28Speaker 2: I was.
- 1:28Speaker 1: I was holding space for Taylor Swift and rip erastour.
- 1:32Speaker 1: You won't know this, but it ended last night.
- 1:34Speaker 2: No I do. I'm not. I mean, I live in
- 1:36Speaker 2: the world. I'm not like an idiot. I like I
- 1:38Speaker 2: know it ended, and like many people are like rip,
- 1:40Speaker 2: and I'm like, hasn't she been doing this for like
- 1:43Speaker 2: two and a half years? Like can like, oh my god?
- 1:46Speaker 2: Like is she like can she rest? The answer is no.
- 1:49Speaker 2: The answer is no, but she had.
- 1:53Speaker 1: She's not a Capricorn, She's she's a Sagittarius, but she's
- 1:56Speaker 1: a December Sagittarius. And there's no rest for the weary
- 2:00Speaker 1: when you're a December baby, There's none, No, Chris, what
- 2:05Speaker 1: was your relationship with Wicked before the press tour started? God?
- 2:10Speaker 2: What was my relationship with Wicked? Obviously, as like a millennial,
- 2:14Speaker 2: we all loved it. We listened to the soundtrack forever
- 2:16Speaker 2: in high school. We went to the touring company like
- 2:20Speaker 2: I did the touring company of Wicked and saw that
- 2:23Speaker 2: and so like I knew the musical inside and out
- 2:26Speaker 2: obviously obviously what else? I mean, it was one of
- 2:31Speaker 2: those things. And I'll get into this later where it's
- 2:33Speaker 2: like we all love this so much because we were
- 2:36Speaker 2: nerds and like earnestly loved this, like flip on its
- 2:39Speaker 2: head of like the most famous movie of all time, yes, thing,
- 2:44Speaker 2: And like then for a very long time, we got
- 2:47Speaker 2: into this like cool world where everything we're like too
- 2:49Speaker 2: cool for everything, and now that I'm in my mid thirties,
- 2:52Speaker 2: I'm like, no, I just like want to watch people
- 2:55Speaker 2: that are like truly talented and like doing things that
- 3:01Speaker 2: are of talent versus pr slash smoke and mirrors slash
- 3:10Speaker 2: like publicity or like being cooler trendy. Yeah, and like
- 3:15Speaker 2: we I think the world is kind of in that,
- 3:17Speaker 2: or at least millennials that are getting older now are
- 3:20Speaker 2: in that space where they're like, no, we just want
- 3:23Speaker 2: to see things that like are really well done, and
- 3:25Speaker 2: so like, even leading up to the to the movie,
- 3:29Speaker 2: I was like, the trailer looks great, the movie looks great.
- 3:34Speaker 2: Like everyone that's talking about it like says that it's
- 3:36Speaker 2: like they're gonna be it's gonna be great, blah blah blah,
- 3:38Speaker 2: and it just simply was in that. Yeah, there's something
- 3:42Speaker 2: really strange about that. But like we shouldn't like this,
- 3:45Speaker 2: like we should be like making fun of this movie
- 3:48Speaker 2: and at all, like at all, even when they're being
- 3:52Speaker 2: absolutely insufferable in these like press junkets with these these
- 3:58Speaker 2: absolute Charlatans that they're being put with, like truly Charlatan's.
- 4:03Speaker 2: Like even this random person was like, I got you
- 4:05Speaker 2: guys a gift, and like walked up to them on
- 4:07Speaker 2: their carpet and gave them both little snowflake ornaments with
- 4:12Speaker 2: their dogs faces in the middle of them, which is like.
- 4:14Speaker 1: Their dog's face. It was even I thought it was
- 4:17Speaker 1: like a goal, like Ariana got an alphab one and Cynthia.
- 4:21Speaker 2: It was like each of their dogs on in the
- 4:25Speaker 2: middle of this thing, and they acted like they gave
- 4:28Speaker 2: them like the Holy Grail.
- 4:31Speaker 1: Dogs look like now.
- 4:33Speaker 2: And like regardless, like and again I should like hummel
- 4:38Speaker 2: them into the ground on podcasts because of this, And
- 4:41Speaker 2: yet it's it flies right past me and I don't
- 4:43Speaker 2: even care.
- 4:44Speaker 1: It's my favorite. It's my favorite moment of the year,
- 4:47Speaker 1: not only the movie but the press tour, because I
- 4:51Speaker 1: I have lived my life craving to be the level
- 4:54Speaker 1: of excitement that I'm always holding in my heart out
- 4:57Speaker 1: in the open. And I truly think like my mom
- 5:00Speaker 1: and I got into a fight about it where she
- 5:02Speaker 1: yelled and I sat there and went, I don't know,
- 5:05Speaker 1: I just feel. But she was like, maybe I'd want
- 5:09Speaker 1: to go see wick it if the press tour wasn't
- 5:12Speaker 1: so annoying. And I'm like, what about it is annoying you?
- 5:15Speaker 1: She goes, why are they crying all the time? I go,
- 5:17Speaker 1: because they're theater children.
- 5:20Speaker 2: Because they're losers, like duh, like us.
- 5:22Speaker 1: Yeah, their dreams have come true? Do you know how
- 5:25Speaker 1: rare it is? Yes, someone's dream to come true. They
- 5:29Speaker 1: should be crying. They should wake up crying that SpongeBob
- 5:33Speaker 1: looking man gets to date Ariana Grande.
- 5:36Speaker 2: Yeah, correct, and dream This is the thing, is like,
- 5:40Speaker 2: no one has a real reason to like not like
- 5:43Speaker 2: the movie. This is the thing. Everyone that I've talked
- 5:45Speaker 2: to there like it was too long. I was like,
- 5:47Speaker 2: every movie that's this big is too long.
- 5:49Speaker 1: It's too long.
- 5:50Speaker 2: It's something I've been saying for you, Like The Power
- 5:52Speaker 2: of the Dog was too long. That's what I was in.
- 5:56Speaker 2: When when they get to the Emerald City, I was like,
- 5:58Speaker 2: I'm so upset that this is over. It's been two
- 6:02Speaker 2: hours and ten minutes, do you know what I mean?
- 6:03Speaker 2: Like I've sat through like Avengers Endgame basically at this point,
- 6:07Speaker 2: and I'm like, I'm so sad that it's ending. I
- 6:09Speaker 2: wanted to continue. That one girl, that one woman that
- 6:11Speaker 2: did like she was like freaking out and she was like,
- 6:14Speaker 2: did you see the thing? Her name is like I
- 6:16Speaker 2: don't even remember what it's like body courage, I think
- 6:18Speaker 2: or something courages for like candle. And she's like, if
- 6:21Speaker 2: you're not like any Glennas in my life, like leave,
- 6:24Speaker 2: Like she did this whole comedy thing that was really funny,
- 6:26Speaker 2: and she's like, that's doctor Jilliman right there. And it
- 6:28Speaker 2: was like it was like a like a like a
- 6:30Speaker 2: deer made out of Christmas lights, you know what I mean,
- 6:32Speaker 2: you like put in your yard. And she's like look
- 6:34Speaker 2: right there and she's like she did this whole thing
- 6:36Speaker 2: that was like so funny. But she said, like if
- 6:39Speaker 2: Nicole Cadman came out and was like this is the
- 6:40Speaker 2: intermission and then part two is gonna start like in
- 6:42Speaker 2: twenty minutes, like I would have sat there, like it
- 6:45Speaker 2: would have been fine.
- 6:46Speaker 1: People are already calling for the in twenty twenty five.
- 6:49Speaker 1: I'd best be able to park by ass in a
- 6:52Speaker 1: movie theater for eight hours.
- 6:54Speaker 2: Yeah, like see the first one, do an intermission and
- 6:56Speaker 2: then come back, yes, and like again it's too long,
- 7:02Speaker 2: is not like a real critique because again, then my
- 7:04Speaker 2: follow up question is like, what would you cut out
- 7:06Speaker 2: of this movie? And there's truly not one scene that
- 7:09Speaker 2: you can cut out without cutting out like one of
- 7:11Speaker 2: the songs.
- 7:12Speaker 1: This mind You. I was fifteen when I saw it
- 7:15Speaker 1: the first time, and I saw it with the first
- 7:18Speaker 1: Chicago cast, so like the live in Chicago cast.
- 7:21Speaker 2: Nice.
- 7:22Speaker 1: And then I saw a tour in my late twenties
- 7:25Speaker 1: in Dayton before I worked at the theater. It was
- 7:28Speaker 1: when I was still the teaching and I and I
- 7:32Speaker 1: read the book.
- 7:34Speaker 2: Yeah, oh, I read the book too. I read the
- 7:35Speaker 2: book as well.
- 7:36Speaker 1: Yeah, I read the book when I was a teenager
- 7:38Speaker 1: because someone said Munchkin Orgy and I was like, you
- 7:41Speaker 1: know who's horny?
- 7:42Speaker 2: Me?
- 7:42Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm read this Oz horny book. Like okay, So
- 7:48Speaker 1: I read the book and I couldn't pick out And
- 7:52Speaker 1: maybe it's because my brain is mushed at this point
- 7:55Speaker 1: in twenty twenty four, but I couldn't pick out what
- 7:58Speaker 1: was filler from the book and what when they tell
- 8:01Speaker 1: me that part one the movie is as long as
- 8:05Speaker 1: the entire Broadway musical, I'm always like how they didn't
- 8:09Speaker 1: even add anything, and they're.
- 8:11Speaker 2: Like, oh they did. No, wait, we can go through,
- 8:13Speaker 2: and we can go through and talk about that. I
- 8:16Speaker 2: feel like I know because I watched a bootleg version that,
- 8:18Speaker 2: when I tell you, is like forty five pixels by
- 8:20Speaker 2: forty five pixels of like of like some torque of Wicked.
- 8:25Speaker 2: But it's just like has the audio of the whole
- 8:27Speaker 2: movie or the whole show. So it's like and again,
- 8:30Speaker 2: like did I need to actually look at the screen
- 8:31Speaker 2: and like see the people know? Of course, I just
- 8:33Speaker 2: needed to like hear what was happening. And so I'm
- 8:35Speaker 2: trying to think at the beginning with the flashbacks, like
- 8:38Speaker 2: it was a lot longer, like the birth story is
- 8:40Speaker 2: a lot longer, okay, which again needed. Whenever you see
- 8:44Speaker 2: her use her powers to throw those rocks with those
- 8:46Speaker 2: little kids and her cute little sister in that little
- 8:48Speaker 2: wheel train, that was like the littlest nugget of anyone
- 8:50Speaker 2: I've ever seen, Little dugget I little cutie Patuti. That
- 8:55Speaker 2: was great.
- 8:56Speaker 1: That was like added, little nugget can come on the
- 9:01Speaker 1: podcast and I'll just ask her yes, no questions for
- 9:04Speaker 1: an an hour.
- 9:06Speaker 2: Like her Instagram is like exploded. She's like posting in
- 9:10Speaker 2: like all these places, and it's like period, like she's
- 9:12Speaker 2: like just like giving it, like at random places where
- 9:15Speaker 2: she's like at a premiere in her little wheelchair, and
- 9:17Speaker 2: I'm like absolutely obsessed with her in everything obsessed Again,
- 9:21Speaker 2: she had not one line in the movie, and then
- 9:23Speaker 2: she literally went like she literally did like a noise,
- 9:26Speaker 2: like I don't think she said a word, like she
- 9:28Speaker 2: made a noise. And when I tell you, both times
- 9:29Speaker 2: I watched the movie in theaters, everyone went, oh, but
- 9:37Speaker 2: the birth part was a little bit longer.
- 9:39Speaker 1: They added choreography too, because they moved through shes. So
- 9:44Speaker 1: I realized that the musical numbers were longer.
- 9:47Speaker 2: But not by much, not by much, like only by
- 9:50Speaker 2: like twenty some seconds. Sometimes it's like like the Loathing Saw,
- 9:55Speaker 2: what is this feeling? Like it's basically that's what happens
- 9:59Speaker 2: in the show. Yeah, like that like that's it.
- 10:03Speaker 1: Okay.
- 10:03Speaker 2: They actually like they delayed a few lines to just
- 10:06Speaker 2: like add a little bit more choreography, but like it's
- 10:08Speaker 2: not like by minutes at all, okay. And then the
- 10:12Speaker 2: scene where I'm trying to think, so she does the wizard, oh,
- 10:17Speaker 2: like when they come to the thing, when they come
- 10:20Speaker 2: to the they're all arriving in the beginning. Yes, that
- 10:25Speaker 2: was a little bit longer.
- 10:26Speaker 1: Yes, yeah, because it has well and I think that
- 10:30Speaker 1: people don't understand what it takes to actually turn something
- 10:33Speaker 1: into a movie like there and.
- 10:36Speaker 2: You can do more, like you there's more you can
- 10:39Speaker 2: do that you don't need to do on stage because
- 10:41Speaker 2: you have that, you don't have to have it happen
- 10:42Speaker 2: in front of everyone's eyes. And like, again, that wasn't
- 10:45Speaker 2: like that scene wasn't dragging where she goes there and
- 10:47Speaker 2: then like throws everyone around and she gets accepted to
- 10:51Speaker 2: the school. Do you know what I mean? Like no, again,
- 10:53Speaker 2: like tell me what you wanted to cut out because
- 10:54Speaker 2: it's nothing.
- 10:55Speaker 1: Because it's nothing. Also, one time I was I told
- 10:58Speaker 1: someone that I had seen Mama on stage. It was
- 11:02Speaker 1: my first Broadway production that I saw on stage, and
- 11:05Speaker 1: someone had just seen the movie and they were like,
- 11:07Speaker 1: how did they get a boat on stage? And I
- 11:09Speaker 1: was like, come again, and they're like, how did they
- 11:12Speaker 1: drive the boat onto stage so those men could arrive?
- 11:17Speaker 1: And I was like.
- 11:18Speaker 2: They walked from the wing of the stage and said,
- 11:20Speaker 2: I just got off a boat, Like no, people are idiots. Yes,
- 11:24Speaker 2: the controversial I loved Mom and Me of the Stage Show.
- 11:27Speaker 2: I hated you hate the movie. I hate the movie.
- 11:31Speaker 2: It was so long again that one is shouldn't have
- 11:35Speaker 2: been made, and yet I watched it on Yeah it's
- 11:38Speaker 2: a horrific. But like what shore the movie the stage show,
- 11:44Speaker 2: The men carry the show the entire time. And in
- 11:47Speaker 2: the movie it's so much about the daughter and the
- 11:50Speaker 2: mom and Meryl Streep. Duh, So of course Meryl Streep
- 11:53Speaker 2: is gonna be the main character of the movie. Hello.
- 11:55Speaker 2: But like the men like are in every song, like
- 11:58Speaker 2: they come, they like really carry the sh and you
- 12:00Speaker 2: love them for it.
- 12:01Speaker 1: Mm hmm.
- 12:02Speaker 2: I know, I'm I met with the wrong audience to
- 12:04Speaker 2: say the men are the most important part of Mama Mia.
- 12:06Speaker 2: But the characters are. They really do carry a lot
- 12:09Speaker 2: of the story and they like do reprises of all
- 12:11Speaker 2: the different songs and like they do. Yeah, like Pierce
- 12:15Speaker 2: Brosen wasn't like, wasn't going to be doing that, So
- 12:17Speaker 2: like that it is lacking from the energy of the
- 12:21Speaker 2: stage show.
- 12:21Speaker 1: Anyway, continue, both Mama Mia movies are perfect and they're
- 12:25Speaker 1: all worth it because at some point you know that
- 12:28Speaker 1: Colin Firth is going to be in a glittery jumpsuit
- 12:31Speaker 1: and I love sinking to a song and it's all
- 12:35Speaker 1: that I want. And it sends me right back to
- 12:37Speaker 1: what a girl wants when he has to put on
- 12:39Speaker 1: the leather pants.
- 12:40Speaker 2: I can't. Oh my god, I forgot about that.
- 12:44Speaker 1: My favorite in movie history. But that's the main complaint
- 12:48Speaker 1: that I'm getting to that people who haven't lived with
- 12:52Speaker 1: Wicked since they were fifteen years old have looked have
- 12:55Speaker 1: told me, oh, you really loved it. It's so long,
- 12:58Speaker 1: and I'm like, I was engaged the entire time.
- 13:02Speaker 2: You and like it says how long the movie is
- 13:05Speaker 2: when you buy your ticket. Correct, That's what I'm not like.
- 13:07Speaker 2: We didn't say that this was a ninety minute movie.
- 13:09Speaker 2: It's the it's the theater. It's the movie event of
- 13:12Speaker 2: the decade, is it not.
- 13:14Speaker 1: No. I was trying to think about that today, like
- 13:17Speaker 1: I'm watching Wicked and I'm like, this is the movie
- 13:20Speaker 1: of the year. What movie would have even come close
- 13:26Speaker 1: to trumping it? As we know, I refused to see Oppenheimer.
- 13:29Speaker 1: I will not watch one frame of it. And that
- 13:32Speaker 1: was last year. That wasn't a twenty twenty four film.
- 13:37Speaker 2: Yeah, no, nothing.
- 13:39Speaker 1: Nothing, This is our movie. This I think Wicked has
- 13:43Speaker 1: the chance to revitalize going to the theater.
- 13:47Speaker 2: Correct, and it was Barbie walked Barbie walk, so this
- 13:50Speaker 2: could like fly.
- 13:52Speaker 1: Yes, Barbie got us back to the theater, and then
- 13:55Speaker 1: she was like, what if you saw my boyfriend Openheimer
- 13:58Speaker 1: for the bit and I said no.
- 14:00Speaker 2: I ended up watching it once I got on Peacock
- 14:03Speaker 2: and it was I mean, it was good. I mean
- 14:04Speaker 2: the editing was like incredible, But there were so many
- 14:07Speaker 2: scenes where I was like, what's happening? I was like,
- 14:08Speaker 2: what is this movie about?
- 14:09Speaker 1: And me watching the Ultimatum this season where I'm like,
- 14:13Speaker 1: who is that?
- 14:14Speaker 2: Yeah, but all episode, every single one of them looks
- 14:17Speaker 2: exactly I'm like, this one's with this, I'm like doing
- 14:19Speaker 2: a beautiful mind in my head. And then it's like
- 14:22Speaker 2: and I'm the whole thing's wrong. So then I'm like
- 14:24Speaker 2: having to burn it to the ground and have to
- 14:25Speaker 2: like like when I tell you that, every single one
- 14:28Speaker 2: of them is exactly the same person to me, I'm like, Chris.
- 14:31Speaker 1: I got into the middle of episode three, two people
- 14:34Speaker 1: were talking. I'm like, I have no idea.
- 14:36Speaker 2: You're like, are they together? Were they ever together? Do
- 14:39Speaker 2: they like each other? Have they ever spoken on camera
- 14:41Speaker 2: but together.
- 14:42Speaker 1: But my mom also tried to fight me about the
- 14:45Speaker 1: press tour where she's like, why does Cynthia only wear
- 14:47Speaker 1: green now? And I was like, because we dressed to theme. Now,
- 14:51Speaker 1: I've been doing this since I was thirteen.
- 14:53Speaker 2: Oh so they've been doing it for a year and
- 14:54Speaker 2: a half. We've made fun of it a million times
- 14:55Speaker 2: in fixing famous people. It's like, DOMINICQ, you seem like,
- 14:58Speaker 2: are they gonna really do this much press? Like at
- 15:00Speaker 2: the Olympics this summer, they were dressed in pink and
- 15:02Speaker 2: green and I was like, yeah, dominic they are. This
- 15:06Speaker 2: is okay wait wait, we were talking about this is
- 15:08Speaker 2: the this is the movie event of the decade, event
- 15:12Speaker 2: of the decade. But like, this is what we need
- 15:15Speaker 2: to remember. Wicked is the most valuable property that Universal owns,
- 15:26Speaker 2: Like NBC Universal. Now we're talking Bravo, We're talking.
- 15:32Speaker 1: US USA, the USA.
- 15:35Speaker 2: I can't even say that with a straight face.
- 15:37Speaker 1: People get so bad at me because I refuse to
- 15:39Speaker 1: believe that USA is real.
- 15:41Speaker 2: It's not.
- 15:42Speaker 1: Watch it Listen every time a new USA show comes on,
- 15:47Speaker 1: I go, if it was a good show, they would
- 15:49Speaker 1: have put it on CBS.
- 15:51Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean even though that's not even it would
- 15:53Speaker 2: have been an NBC NBC. Let me think about this
- 15:56Speaker 2: NBC and BC the Home of Friends and Seinfeld like
- 16:03Speaker 2: let like hello, like that Wicked the Musical was the
- 16:11Speaker 2: largest ip that they had, Like it was the most
- 16:13Speaker 2: valuable because it's been on Broadway for so many years
- 16:16Speaker 2: that it has made them so much money and the
- 16:19Speaker 2: prospect of making it a movie was so was valued
- 16:22Speaker 2: at so much money, Like we don't even for all
- 16:27Speaker 2: you like a you know, Robin hood down app downloaders
- 16:31Speaker 2: that are like doing stocks and things that you're like
- 16:34Speaker 2: investing like this is they've invested so much money into
- 16:38Speaker 2: this movie knowing that the return was going to be
- 16:39Speaker 2: so high. And when I tell you that, I know
- 16:41Speaker 2: for a fact that Universal somewhere, whether it's Universal Studios
- 16:45Speaker 2: Florida or something else, we're gonna be able to go
- 16:48Speaker 2: in those sets. There's no doubt a mind. And if
- 16:51Speaker 2: they're not doing that, it's really fucking stupid. It's because
- 16:54Speaker 2: they they need.
- 16:55Speaker 1: You, because they I mean, they built the entire Emerald City, like.
- 17:00Speaker 2: You know how when we went out, Like when you
- 17:01Speaker 2: can go to like the Harry Potter World in London
- 17:03Speaker 2: and like go and it was like the most incredible
- 17:05Speaker 2: thing that I've ever been at in my life. Like
- 17:07Speaker 2: they could do that with this and make it again.
- 17:10Speaker 2: Harry Potter makes so much money and it's over, do
- 17:14Speaker 2: you know what I mean? Like there's like the game
- 17:16Speaker 2: that I'm playing, the Hogwarts Legacy Game that I'm so
- 17:18Speaker 2: addicted to. I'm a crack cocaine addict for this game.
- 17:22Speaker 1: Like you're not supposed to say out loud that you're
- 17:24Speaker 1: playing the Hogwarts Legacy game.
- 17:26Speaker 2: I know, but I am. I got it on sale, Okay.
- 17:29Speaker 2: I got it on sale for twenty dollars. So JK
- 17:31Speaker 2: didn't get she got like two dollars of my money. Okay,
- 17:35Speaker 2: So like I'm allowed. I'm allowing myself, you know what
- 17:38Speaker 2: I clear. I trash her every chance that I get. Yes,
- 17:42Speaker 2: Like so awful. Yeah. I put on a list of
- 17:45Speaker 2: people that I like want wish death upon basically on
- 17:49Speaker 2: my podcast. So that's hello. So Wicked is like the
- 17:54Speaker 2: most valuable thing that they have. Why wouldn't this be
- 17:56Speaker 2: the biggest.
- 17:57Speaker 1: Movie of all awesome? And I've been saying it for
- 18:02Speaker 1: years and I blame Disney and all of their fucking
- 18:07Speaker 1: live action reboots or whatever. That CGI has ruined the
- 18:10Speaker 1: movie experience for me.
- 18:11Speaker 2: Correct correct.
- 18:13Speaker 1: So everyone who's like doing color correction on wicked clips
- 18:17Speaker 1: and being like, wouldn't it be better in this technic
- 18:20Speaker 1: color hellscape? And I'm like, no, that looks like Love
- 18:22Speaker 1: Island if I wanted to, I there are countless seasons
- 18:26Speaker 1: of love alet love Island.
- 18:28Speaker 2: I to watch When did you ever do this for
- 18:30Speaker 2: like a Marvel movie?
- 18:32Speaker 1: Right?
- 18:32Speaker 2: When did you ever? Do you know what I mean?
- 18:34Speaker 2: The nitpicking of it? Is this the theme of your podcast?
- 18:38Speaker 2: Do you know what I mean? It's like picking I'm
- 18:41Speaker 2: the color again. My biggest grievance was the lighting, and
- 18:44Speaker 2: so it's like and I said, if that's my biggest grievance,
- 18:46Speaker 2: then where good to go? Because that's not a legitimate greeed.
- 18:50Speaker 2: That's agree. That's like when I need to say what
- 18:52Speaker 2: what I don't didn't like about it? It's when it's
- 18:54Speaker 2: something technical, it's like, not that big of a deal.
- 18:58Speaker 2: I mean, it is a big deal. Wedding is a
- 18:59Speaker 2: huge deal, but like I still watched the whole fucking
- 19:01Speaker 2: movie and it was fine. Do you know what I mean?
- 19:03Speaker 2: Like color correction, people don't even they think they know
- 19:07Speaker 2: what color correction is, and they don't. This film was
- 19:11Speaker 2: not not color corrected. It was lit and shot in
- 19:14Speaker 2: a certain way to give it the feel that it
- 19:15Speaker 2: was right period.
- 19:18Speaker 1: I love practical sets. I love practical makeup.
- 19:22Speaker 2: Why the Lord of the Ring so much? Because I
- 19:24Speaker 2: could still to day, in the Year of Our Lord
- 19:28Speaker 2: twenty twenty four, go to New Zealand and like be
- 19:31Speaker 2: the Shire. Like I could go stay in Frodo's house.
- 19:34Speaker 1: Yeah it's on Airbnb.
- 19:36Speaker 2: What I jump off of a bridge the next day,
- 19:38Speaker 2: because like, what is worth living for after I do that?
- 19:40Speaker 1: Yes, okay, but new goals. We will be living in
- 19:46Speaker 1: the Shire come January twenty twenty five. But yeah, we
- 19:52Speaker 1: went and saw Red One when Wicked was sold out
- 19:56Speaker 1: and we couldn't see Wicked, so we went and saw
- 19:58Speaker 1: Red One and it was enjoyable. Fight the fact that
- 20:00Speaker 1: you wanted to be at Wicked, and I'm a I'm
- 20:05Speaker 1: convinced that they did special effects makeup instead of CGI
- 20:09Speaker 1: for the Crumpus scene, And then I was like, this
- 20:12Speaker 1: is the best movie of all time. They hired so
- 20:14Speaker 1: many people to put different goblin masks on people. He's
- 20:18Speaker 1: wearing an actual fucking crampus costume and Crumpus is my
- 20:22Speaker 1: favorite Christmas deity. I was like, sold you you've got me,
- 20:26Speaker 1: you got me.
- 20:27Speaker 2: Now we're we're I'm telling you, okay. My big thesis
- 20:31Speaker 2: when I was like, what do you want to talk about?
- 20:32Speaker 2: Because I know what I want to talk about here
- 20:34Speaker 2: when we were doing our you know, pre chat, like
- 20:36Speaker 2: we are returning to like skill, like we are returning
- 20:40Speaker 2: to like talent and like showcasing talent and like talent
- 20:45Speaker 2: rising to the top versus like pr money generation. Yes,
- 20:52Speaker 2: does that make sense? Like even look at music, I
- 20:55Speaker 2: mean we're gonna go out of the place and like
- 20:58Speaker 2: I'm sorry in advance, but like look at me like
- 21:00Speaker 2: Chapel Rone, like we have Sabrina and Charlie. Charlie's worked
- 21:04Speaker 2: so hard to get to this level. Did I think
- 21:06Speaker 2: Bratt was her best album?
- 21:07Speaker 1: No?
- 21:08Speaker 2: You know what I mean? Like at all?
- 21:10Speaker 1: No?
- 21:10Speaker 2: Do I even like any of the sounds so much?
- 21:12Speaker 2: Not really? But do I like she is? I think
- 21:15Speaker 2: she's way better.
- 21:16Speaker 1: Charlie is a huge listener of this show.
- 21:18Speaker 2: And now self title her self titled album where it's
- 21:21Speaker 2: all duets with people. In my opinion is like which
- 21:23Speaker 2: was her main album? Not like the remix album I
- 21:27Speaker 2: think is like some of her best songs ever. The
- 21:29Speaker 2: song Gone, first song on the album. Incredible anyway, like
- 21:33Speaker 2: the fact that chapel Roone like had an album and
- 21:36Speaker 2: then a whole year later it's like a huge deal.
- 21:39Speaker 2: And she's like a really good singer and technical again
- 21:44Speaker 2: not I'm cool and I'm hip, is like, oh, I
- 21:46Speaker 2: can actually do falsetto and then bring it over into
- 21:48Speaker 2: like a belt and then bringing into like technical singing
- 21:52Speaker 2: that we don't have anymore period, Like they skyrockets at
- 21:58Speaker 2: the top, Sabrina Carpenter, very good lyrics and being able
- 22:01Speaker 2: to weave in and out of your lyrics and like
- 22:03Speaker 2: actually again Espresso at the end of the day, it's
- 22:05Speaker 2: like you can't sing it. You don't know all the
- 22:06Speaker 2: words of espresso. You think that it's like so intricate
- 22:10Speaker 2: and like and regardless of all that, it's like they
- 22:14Speaker 2: all rose the top versus like even the younger like
- 22:18Speaker 2: remember like Olivia Rodrigo, like great, like so good, that's
- 22:22Speaker 2: so talented. Every performance I've ever seen of her, like
- 22:25Speaker 2: I was like great singer, really good. All these younger
- 22:29Speaker 2: people that are like becoming really famous, they're not like
- 22:31Speaker 2: love her to death. But it's not a Britney Spears
- 22:33Speaker 2: situation where it's like we're gonna like make you into this, this, this,
- 22:36Speaker 2: this and that. It is like, oh no, you just
- 22:39Speaker 2: have a really fucking great voice and we're just going
- 22:40Speaker 2: to showcase that and you're gonna do your bullshit that
- 22:42Speaker 2: you want to do.
- 22:43Speaker 1: But like this does tighten because Annie and I are
- 22:48Speaker 1: in love with a Ariana Grande. Okay, she's done, she's back,
- 22:53Speaker 1: She's she's broken some homes, Okay.
- 22:55Speaker 2: Sure, too many, honestly a lot. Yeah. Again, I have
- 22:59Speaker 2: a whole epout it. So you could go fixing famous
- 23:01Speaker 2: people Ariana Grande with Deanna Chang.
- 23:04Speaker 1: There you go, there you go. She's broken a lot
- 23:06Speaker 1: of homes, a lot. She is currently betting SpongeBob and
- 23:10Speaker 1: I can't make my head make sense of it. But
- 23:14Speaker 1: when you talk about talent and then but you talk
- 23:17Speaker 1: about the industry side of it too, she's the crossroads
- 23:21Speaker 1: of that because when she was younger, she had managers
- 23:26Speaker 1: and brands in Disney and Nickelodeon being like you have
- 23:30Speaker 1: to be this. So there's a lot that we have
- 23:33Speaker 1: a hard time like forgiving Ariana about. But I always go.
- 23:37Speaker 1: She was seventeen and listening to a white man with money,
- 23:41Speaker 1: promising her that she'd get money too, Like you know,
- 23:45Speaker 1: we do bully our pop stars into.
- 23:47Speaker 2: Of course Hello yeah, Hello, and I think go back,
- 23:51Speaker 2: if you go back, go back and listen to my
- 23:54Speaker 2: you know, my number one played song this year on
- 23:58Speaker 2: my Spotify, Rapped One Last Time from Like the what
- 24:03Speaker 2: is it? It's I don't even know. It's like called
- 24:04Speaker 2: like My Everything I think is the album it's She's
- 24:06Speaker 2: still like a little girl basically, but that song is
- 24:08Speaker 2: like one last time to make it make you huh
- 24:13Speaker 2: if you go to like after the bridge of any
- 24:16Speaker 2: of her songs from like and again. Dangerous Woman is
- 24:18Speaker 2: another really good example of this, and obviously into you
- 24:20Speaker 2: all those like Dangerous Woman songs that are like the
- 24:22Speaker 2: ones that we know her as like her like White
- 24:24Speaker 2: Hot Peak of Fame, go to the go pass the
- 24:27Speaker 2: bridge to the last chorus where she then does her
- 24:29Speaker 2: vocal riffs. There is not a person on this planet
- 24:32Speaker 2: minus maybe Mariah Carey if she wanted to try, that
- 24:35Speaker 2: could sing the way that she could sing. When you
- 24:38Speaker 2: hear one last time like she got like what and
- 24:42Speaker 2: she's like take you how like her. She goes so
- 24:45Speaker 2: high in a full belt, like a full belt so
- 24:49Speaker 2: high that is like no one could, like there's not
- 24:51Speaker 2: a person on this planet that can do it, like
- 24:54Speaker 2: so yes, for so long did she like want to
- 24:57Speaker 2: stop singing and like be cool. She's the She's the
- 24:59Speaker 2: example of that. She started as the most pure raw talent,
- 25:03Speaker 2: then wanted to just be a rapper, much like Beyonce.
- 25:06Speaker 2: Do you know what I mean? She's like, I just
- 25:07Speaker 2: don't want to sing anymore. I'm gonna be a rapper.
- 25:09Speaker 2: And it's like, Okay, I guess we have to deal
- 25:11Speaker 2: with this. And then she for four albums Ariana Grande
- 25:15Speaker 2: was like I'm not gonna sing like I'll sing on
- 25:17Speaker 2: like two songs and then the rest of them are
- 25:19Speaker 2: gonna be me mumbling and just like being weird, and
- 25:22Speaker 2: we're like, I guess this is what we have to do.
- 25:24Speaker 2: And then this most recent album, which got she did
- 25:28Speaker 2: like zero press four because she was truly so busy
- 25:30Speaker 2: making this movie that she didn't have time to do.
- 25:32Speaker 2: I've listened to it so much. I think it's like
- 25:34Speaker 2: so beautiful and she actually sings and it's so gorgeous.
- 25:37Speaker 2: And then like for her to just come out of
- 25:39Speaker 2: the gate and knock this out of the park. It's
- 25:41Speaker 2: like we are returning again. She's like returning to like,
- 25:44Speaker 2: Oh no, I'm a nerdy theater kid and there's like
- 25:46Speaker 2: nothing wrong with that, and like I'm actually just gonna
- 25:49Speaker 2: be above and you know what it is, We're all
- 25:51Speaker 2: over the place. Everyone in the fucking world is trying
- 25:54Speaker 2: to be a cool person on Instagram every and so
- 25:57Speaker 2: now it's like that's no long because it's so everyone's
- 26:01Speaker 2: doing it that it's not cool anymore because everyone that
- 26:04Speaker 2: has internet access is like trying to be a celebrity
- 26:06Speaker 2: on Instagram and like in TikTok, and so now it's like,
- 26:10Speaker 2: oh wait, I actually like being in a blockbuster Hollywood
- 26:13Speaker 2: movie actually is really cool because like none of you
- 26:16Speaker 2: could get here because you're just on TikTok and you
- 26:19Speaker 2: have like you might have five hundred million followers on TikTok,
- 26:21Speaker 2: but you like live in your house and don't do anything.
- 26:24Speaker 1: It was exactly this time this last year that I
- 26:28Speaker 1: walked out of a movie theater after seeing anyone but
- 26:31Speaker 1: you texted you, I love Sydney Sweeten. I want her career. Sweeney. Yes, God, yea.
- 26:40Speaker 2: I love Jodi Sweeten. We love Jody sweet I mean
- 26:42Speaker 2: do we love her too, But that's not who it was.
- 26:44Speaker 2: But that's not who I love Sidney Sweeney.
- 26:47Speaker 1: I love Sydney Sweeney.
- 26:49Speaker 2: I want her.
- 26:50Speaker 1: I love that she serves cut on the daily. I
- 26:52Speaker 1: want her cunty ass on everything that I'm ever watching. However,
- 26:56Speaker 1: I'm a year into this whole trend of giving nothing
- 27:00Speaker 1: while I'm in a movie, and I'm like, no, I
- 27:02Speaker 1: need you to give something because Glenn Powell's doing all
- 27:05Speaker 1: the work. And now I got to stick up for him.
- 27:07Speaker 2: Yeah, You're You're making me have to defend him for
- 27:11Speaker 2: this y Yeah, I will say, though it's worked up
- 27:15Speaker 2: until now. I did not see that movie, but like,
- 27:17Speaker 2: I'm not gonna lie her. And when she was in
- 27:19Speaker 2: White Lotus it was I mean, no one does it
- 27:21Speaker 2: better than her, I will say.
- 27:23Speaker 1: And I've always had this idea that well and our
- 27:28Speaker 1: arch nemesis Bradley Cooper technically did this too, that you
- 27:32Speaker 1: do really stupid give me money things in the beginning.
- 27:37Speaker 2: Of your career, a mass wealth, Yeah, yes, to.
- 27:40Speaker 1: A mass wealth, and then you do whatever the fuck
- 27:42Speaker 1: you want. Uh, My favorite lady Gaga album is Joe Ann.
- 27:47Speaker 1: It's no one else's.
- 27:48Speaker 2: No, yeah, you're truly it's not even hers.
- 27:52Speaker 1: It's about her dead aunt. And she's like, I'm over it.
- 27:56Speaker 1: I love it. And it was her No, I'm sick
- 28:00Speaker 1: of doing the raw and wearing meat album. Like it
- 28:04Speaker 1: was like, I'm a real person out I'm a.
- 28:06Speaker 2: P Yeah if you forgot, I'm actually a real human being,
- 28:09Speaker 2: yeah did you? Yeah? Well, But the thing that's crazy
- 28:11Speaker 2: is like this is Arianna's version of that doing whatever
- 28:15Speaker 2: the fuck she wants is actually being in in like
- 28:17Speaker 2: the largest movie of the year, if not the decade exactly.
- 28:20Speaker 1: And what I found out was she I walked away
- 28:26Speaker 1: so blown away by how often I laughed at her
- 28:29Speaker 1: because she's genuinely funny.
- 28:32Speaker 2: Every line when we were at the when we were
- 28:34Speaker 2: at the screening where they where they came out, like
- 28:38Speaker 2: at the DGA, every time that she spoke, the whole
- 28:40Speaker 2: theater rupted in laughter.
- 28:41Speaker 1: Of course. Yeah, and because you said after you went, well,
- 28:48Speaker 1: she's clearly like, you know, doing her version of Christian
- 28:52Speaker 1: Chenna with because that was her hero, that was her idol. Whatever,
- 28:55Speaker 1: of course she was going to go that route. It
- 28:57Speaker 1: would be stupid to not go that route. That's the
- 29:00Speaker 1: Glinda we all have in our heads, no matter who
- 29:02Speaker 1: we saw do it. Yeah, and I was like, okay,
- 29:06Speaker 1: so you know she'll just you know, she'll be Kristin
- 29:10Speaker 1: Chenowick version two, and I'll I won't be devastated, but
- 29:14Speaker 1: I won't be impressed. But when I say that, like,
- 29:16Speaker 1: you really should have hit home on how she makes.
- 29:18Speaker 2: It her her own.
- 29:20Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm like, Oscar, give her.
- 29:24Speaker 2: Oh sh I'm I don't think there is one person
- 29:27Speaker 2: that that is like even remotely in the rutting more
- 29:29Speaker 2: than her. No, for real, I don't think Cynthia Riva
- 29:32Speaker 2: will win one just because like the other people that
- 29:34Speaker 2: will get nominated, like, they'll either give I think that
- 29:36Speaker 2: they're either going to give Pamela Anderson like a career
- 29:38Speaker 2: Oscar for that movie which ps, I'm a gym here
- 29:41Speaker 2: for my pants over that cast in that movie. I
- 29:44Speaker 2: did not realize all those people were in it. I'm
- 29:46Speaker 2: like fucking hyped for that movie. But they'll either give
- 29:50Speaker 2: her that or they're gonna give one to Angelina Jolie
- 29:52Speaker 2: for this Maria movie. I think, oh yeah, Like, I
- 29:55Speaker 2: just don't think Cynthia is gonna get it, but like
- 29:57Speaker 2: I just don't. I just don't think she's gonna get it.
- 30:00Speaker 2: And her performance is so much more subtle mm hmm. However,
- 30:05Speaker 2: if you really pay attention to it, like it makes
- 30:10Speaker 2: so much sense. And like even in the Wizard and
- 30:13Speaker 2: I like in the beginning, you're like, oh, this is
- 30:15Speaker 2: she's like not really singing it, you know what I mean,
- 30:17Speaker 2: because it is again a movie version, doesn't she doesn't
- 30:19Speaker 2: need to be belting. But like when at the beginning
- 30:21Speaker 2: you're like, oh, but you're watching her through the song,
- 30:24Speaker 2: gained confidence in being able to voice what her like
- 30:28Speaker 2: deepest darkest wish is. Yeah, and then by the end
- 30:32Speaker 2: when she's alone and she's able to belt it out
- 30:34Speaker 2: at the very end, like you're like, oh, that was
- 30:36Speaker 2: a performance.
- 30:38Speaker 1: The little touches that both Cynthia and Ariana give throughout
- 30:41Speaker 1: the movie, truly, just because I'm recalling them are already
- 30:45Speaker 1: giving me chills again. But like every time Cynthia chose
- 30:48Speaker 1: to wink or half smile at Ariana because it's like, yeah,
- 30:52Speaker 1: Glinda was being right there, but we're doing our flirty
- 30:54Speaker 1: they saw I'm a smile about it. Yeah, Like there
- 30:57Speaker 1: were there were such new one small choices that real
- 31:03Speaker 1: professionals may when they're like, we're making the movie of
- 31:06Speaker 1: the decade.
- 31:08Speaker 2: And it's like not stunty, no, Like, it wasn't like
- 31:12Speaker 2: like in every single way that apparently they were gonna
- 31:15Speaker 2: do like a hip hop version of popular, and Ariana
- 31:19Speaker 2: Grande was like ab solutely not like she was like
- 31:25Speaker 2: even the ending part that's different where that it keeps
- 31:27Speaker 2: going up. She didn't want to do that. And like
- 31:30Speaker 2: the guy that like wrote all the music, which, by
- 31:32Speaker 2: the way, is the guy that goes We'll see you now.
- 31:34Speaker 2: He's the one that wrote all the songs from Wicked. Yeah,
- 31:36Speaker 2: and he was on our he was in our panel.
- 31:38Speaker 2: He said, like, I gave her this new version of
- 31:42Speaker 2: the song, and she said, you just wrote this because
- 31:45Speaker 2: I'm Ariana Grande and I will not be singing this
- 31:48Speaker 2: like how dare you? And he said, if I knew
- 31:52Speaker 2: I could have written this song this way whenever it started,
- 31:54Speaker 2: this would be the song. I'm not doing this because
- 31:57Speaker 2: you are a pop star. I'm doing this because it's
- 31:59Speaker 2: a better version of this song. And she was like,
- 32:02Speaker 2: are you lying to me? And he was like no,
- 32:04Speaker 2: and then she was like, Okay, I'll do it well
- 32:07Speaker 2: the first that sorry, I'm like no, like that her
- 32:12Speaker 2: being like no, I will not allow you to make
- 32:15Speaker 2: it be my version of this, like I'm just doing
- 32:17Speaker 2: what is there is? Like like in like so fucking smart?
- 32:22Speaker 1: Yes, you know that Leanne Rhymes has a version.
- 32:27Speaker 2: Of how dare you bring her up? Right now?
- 32:29Speaker 1: But I love Leanne? Oh?
- 32:31Speaker 2: I know, yes, you do. You're right.
- 32:33Speaker 1: Have tried to go to fix her on your podcast
- 32:35Speaker 1: and you're like, madly, there's bigger fish to fry.
- 32:38Speaker 2: Noah, we do have we do have bigger fish to fry. Sadly,
- 32:41Speaker 2: we we might need to do that as a good
- 32:42Speaker 2: bonus episode.
- 32:44Speaker 1: Sorry, you were standing right next to me when we
- 32:47Speaker 1: got a perfect.
- 32:50Speaker 2: How yeah, sorry, go ahead.
- 32:54Speaker 1: But did you know that she has her own version
- 32:56Speaker 1: of for Good? I know because I accidentally put the
- 32:59Speaker 1: win Could album on shuffle and all of a sudden,
- 33:04Speaker 1: I'm like, this is it right? Who? Why?
- 33:06Speaker 2: Why? What's happenings? She's a great singer, so like, oh
- 33:15Speaker 2: it's not good.
- 33:16Speaker 1: My sister and I listened to it after my depews
- 33:19Speaker 1: like uh your nose and throw appointment. We were like
- 33:22Speaker 1: driving home. I was like put out the Wicked soundtrack
- 33:25Speaker 1: let's see what sodosty.
- 33:26Speaker 2: Like like that's what happened, and.
- 33:27Speaker 1: That's what happened. And I'm like, well, this is a
- 33:30Speaker 1: choice and this is a way to do it.
- 33:34Speaker 2: Interest that's so interesting.
- 33:36Speaker 1: So I get what she's saying about, like I took
- 33:39Speaker 1: this job because I want to honor Glinda. I want
- 33:43Speaker 1: to be Glinda. I want to lose myself into Glinda.
- 33:47Speaker 1: And also like, what a way to come into your
- 33:50Speaker 1: career where you started on Nickelodeon licking your own feet.
- 33:54Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah, being literal like child born for
- 33:58Speaker 2: sick adults basically yeah, yeah, not of your own doing,
- 34:02Speaker 2: not of.
- 34:02Speaker 1: Your own doing, not able to say yes or no
- 34:06Speaker 1: to anything that's going on. Ever to then be looking
- 34:10Speaker 1: at the person who wrote the music for Wicked and
- 34:12Speaker 1: mean like I'm not doing that, but thank you, Like
- 34:16Speaker 1: it's powerful. Also, I saw part of the press tour
- 34:19Speaker 1: where they gave them the scripts and he doesn't and
- 34:25Speaker 1: in the original script he doesn't say the wizard will
- 34:27Speaker 1: see you. Now, he says who goes there or something
- 34:30Speaker 1: like that, Well who is this and says something like
- 34:33Speaker 1: shittier and starkier, and Ariana called Cynthia and was like
- 34:37Speaker 1: did you see how they changed the script? Do they
- 34:39Speaker 1: not know that that's iconic?
- 34:40Speaker 2: Because I I love that they like were like, oh no,
- 34:44Speaker 2: we will, like you will.
- 34:46Speaker 1: Fuck your shit up, you will do this right. And
- 34:49Speaker 1: and I love when people know the subject material. I
- 34:53Speaker 1: love when people know what lines are gonna make me
- 34:57Speaker 1: the person who went on free Popcorn Tuesday get chills
- 35:01Speaker 1: and take me back to when I'm fifteen.
- 35:03Speaker 2: Also like, how dare they change that line? It's like
- 35:06Speaker 2: the it's the climax of it's the climax of that
- 35:09Speaker 2: entire song.
- 35:10Speaker 1: Yeah. Yes, And now that I'm thinking about it, I'm
- 35:13Speaker 1: a little upset that he doesn't slam a door after it,
- 35:16Speaker 1: because that's how the light goes. He goes the wizard
- 35:18Speaker 1: will see you now, and that there's like a bay
- 35:21Speaker 1: like ye either has like a little staff thing that
- 35:24Speaker 1: he hits orre he slams a door. I can't remember which,
- 35:27Speaker 1: But yeah, they were gonna change that line, and they
- 35:30Speaker 1: were like, excuse me. Everyone who's loved this musical since
- 35:33Speaker 1: they were seven years old is going to know that
- 35:35Speaker 1: you did that, and they're gonna be mad.
- 35:39Speaker 2: Yeah. I would have been mad. I would have been like,
- 35:41Speaker 2: why did they do it, and they really didn't change
- 35:43Speaker 2: like anything. That's the thing is, like there were very
- 35:45Speaker 2: few things that they changed. The only thing that they
- 35:47Speaker 2: didn't do was spoiler whenever she makes gives all the
- 35:52Speaker 2: monkey's wings like in the stage show, then like there's
- 35:55Speaker 2: like a monkey that's like wrestling under a blanket and
- 35:58Speaker 2: she goes to take the blanket off and like free
- 35:59Speaker 2: them monkey, and it's actually doctor de Lamonde. Oh, which
- 36:02Speaker 2: I ueah, we never that didn't happen, But she sees
- 36:06Speaker 2: visions of him, Like she sees those visions of him
- 36:09Speaker 2: like in the cage, and that was the only part
- 36:12Speaker 2: that was like different, and so the way that she realizes,
- 36:16Speaker 2: Like there.
- 36:17Speaker 1: Were also so such small incidents where I was like, oh,
- 36:22Speaker 1: that's you honoring my play, because they do make sure
- 36:26Speaker 1: to include Do you remember when the flying monkeys happened
- 36:29Speaker 1: on stage and it's literally a screen and it's just
- 36:32Speaker 1: a million flying monkeys going up and down on a
- 36:35Speaker 1: screen saver. They did that in the Windows. I was like,
- 36:37Speaker 1: thank you for my domain on.
- 36:40Speaker 2: A screen saver, right, like it was a screensaver.
- 36:42Speaker 1: It was a screensaver.
- 36:43Speaker 2: And like other people like someone was like, oh, like
- 36:46Speaker 2: not every movie needs to have a jump scare and
- 36:48Speaker 2: was trying to like hate on it, and I was like,
- 36:49Speaker 2: that's not a reason to not like this movie, Like,
- 36:52Speaker 2: are you fucking kidding me?
- 36:53Speaker 1: Also, the flying monkeys have always been scary from day one. Yeah,
- 36:57Speaker 1: they're scary. Duh, duh, they're scary in the original fucking movie. Ah,
- 37:04Speaker 1: because I don't know if you know this, but I
- 37:06Speaker 1: grew up in the town the only town in the
- 37:09Speaker 1: United States of America who has a Wizard of oz fest.
- 37:13Speaker 2: Oh I did know this.
- 37:14Speaker 1: Yeah, Okay, we've talked about by trauma.
- 37:17Speaker 2: Ye, yes you have.
- 37:18Speaker 1: We've talked about my trauma. Okay, great, So I know
- 37:21Speaker 1: exactly how scary those monkeys are.
- 37:25Speaker 2: I to go back quickly to like talent, like they
- 37:31Speaker 2: like her, like I'm gonna do whatever I want, Like
- 37:32Speaker 2: we said that Ariana Grande is like I'm gonna be
- 37:34Speaker 2: Glinda and like be a theater nerd and not be
- 37:36Speaker 2: like a cool like a cool bitch that sings a
- 37:39Speaker 2: song break up with your boyfriend because I'm bored even
- 37:41Speaker 2: though it's her, like life mark, like that is so cool.
- 37:45Speaker 2: And then for Cynthia to have this moment, to then
- 37:47Speaker 2: have this is truly her star turn. Yeah, Like she's
- 37:50Speaker 2: been in the wings and we've like known who she is,
- 37:52Speaker 2: and she's had like she has performed at the Oscars,
- 37:55Speaker 2: and she's like she's like done so many things and
- 37:57Speaker 2: like she's one award away from an ego. But like
- 38:00Speaker 2: this is like she is now a household name for
- 38:02Speaker 2: the rest of her life because of this movie.
- 38:04Speaker 1: I'm in love with her. One of the feedbacks that
- 38:07Speaker 1: I keep getting about the movie is that Cynthia herself
- 38:10Speaker 1: is just so weird as a person. And I unhinged
- 38:14Speaker 1: my job and I'm like, do you mean at the
- 38:16Speaker 1: real ethereal? Do you mean not of this world? She
- 38:20Speaker 1: doesn't live on your plane of existence because she's above it.
- 38:24Speaker 1: Like you know that My life motto is if you
- 38:27Speaker 1: are actually more talented than me, you get to act
- 38:29Speaker 1: more talented than yes, correct, Like, and that's Cynthia. Why
- 38:34Speaker 1: should she ever have to not be a weirdo? For me?
- 38:39Speaker 2: Well, and a lot of people too. It's very funny
- 38:41Speaker 2: because like gorgeous. I've been comparing it because a lot
- 38:44Speaker 2: of people have been asking me, like, oh, what do
- 38:45Speaker 2: you think of like Riana Grande's weight, Like she looks
- 38:47Speaker 2: so skinny, and I'm like, one, yes, she does. But
- 38:52Speaker 2: if this was a if this was Daniel day Lewis
- 38:55Speaker 2: or Christian Bale that had to lose like one hundred
- 38:57Speaker 2: pounds for a role, we would be like jizzy our
- 39:00Speaker 2: pants and like beating off to them, like losing losing
- 39:03Speaker 2: all that weight and saying that they're like such serious actors.
- 39:07Speaker 1: Oh but like the said acting of it all, like
- 39:09Speaker 1: when are we getting Ariano's real voice back? Number one?
- 39:11Speaker 1: We've never had it? What is her real voice? I'd
- 39:14Speaker 1: love for someone to tell me.
- 39:16Speaker 2: The number of like tiktoks that I fucking pissed myself
- 39:19Speaker 2: over where that people are like black Iana Core they
- 39:23Speaker 2: call her when she was like be quote unquote being black,
- 39:26Speaker 2: and she is like it's really bad, but she's like
- 39:28Speaker 2: she's like whatever, She's like get your mess over here,
- 39:31Speaker 2: like her like weird accent that she it's like not
- 39:34Speaker 2: on a black scent, but it is, like but it is,
- 39:36Speaker 2: like is but it's not, but it is, And you're like,
- 39:38Speaker 2: what's happening? And she's so dark and you're like like
- 39:41Speaker 2: they for years people have made up like that. She's
- 39:43Speaker 2: like racially ambiguous quote unquote like but like as a
- 39:46Speaker 2: slam not as like right because anything. It's like here's
- 39:49Speaker 2: when she was Asian, Here's when she was white. Here's
- 39:51Speaker 2: what she says like and it's like you're like looking
- 39:53Speaker 2: at it and you're like, oh my god, this is
- 39:54Speaker 2: like real and funny, like because it's so bad and
- 39:57Speaker 2: like we're never why we never have had her real
- 40:01Speaker 2: into like okay and like what okay, you're not. She's
- 40:05Speaker 2: clearly mentally ill and it's like like stuck in this
- 40:08Speaker 2: role and like that's hello.
- 40:11Speaker 1: She had to lick her own feet, not even pre
- 40:15Speaker 1: real I Carly for the spinoff of I Carly on
- 40:19Speaker 1: the Internet, spinoff of the spin off of I Carle. Okay,
- 40:26Speaker 1: that's what she had to do. And then we all
- 40:29Speaker 1: watched the documentary about it. Yeah, we all watched the
- 40:33Speaker 1: documentary about it. That man still walking around Nickelodeon.
- 40:36Speaker 2: No bopin to and fro somewhere like I So like
- 40:43Speaker 2: that's what I'm saying, is like, oh, when it's when
- 40:46Speaker 2: it's her, it's like, oh, this is like she took
- 40:48Speaker 2: this role so seriously and it's annoying, and yes, are
- 40:51Speaker 2: they being absolutely insufferable Like in the in the press
- 40:56Speaker 2: story yes, of course they are like duh, like yeah,
- 40:59Speaker 2: but like when it's when this is like another movie
- 41:04Speaker 2: that's like ooh too, men, When when Wolverine and Deadpool
- 41:08Speaker 2: was happening, not that they got that much press, but
- 41:10Speaker 2: it's like where people like, oh my god, they're so
- 41:12Speaker 2: annoying or like, was anyone like, oh, Hugh Jackman is
- 41:16Speaker 2: like probably on steroids because of his body? Do you
- 41:18Speaker 2: know what I mean? Like, no, no one said anything
- 41:20Speaker 2: about any of that.
- 41:21Speaker 1: Except for me. I said Bryan Reynolds was annoying, because
- 41:24Speaker 1: I believe he's annoying. Yeah, sure every day.
- 41:27Speaker 2: But like, do you know what it's like, we don't ever, ever, ever,
- 41:30Speaker 2: ever like make that a negative thing when it has
- 41:33Speaker 2: to be like a men losing or game. When when
- 41:35Speaker 2: Brendan Fraser gained all that weight to play the whale,
- 41:37Speaker 2: we gave him a fucking oscar for what we did.
- 41:41Speaker 1: And we cried and we stood up and applauded him
- 41:44Speaker 1: for fifteen minutes for being fat, for being fat and
- 41:47Speaker 1: sad and he was already sad. Yeah, And I love
- 41:53Speaker 1: Brendan Fraser and I only want nice things.
- 41:56Speaker 2: But I'm just saying, like we like bowed down to
- 41:58Speaker 2: him because he did all that, But when it's a woman,
- 42:01Speaker 2: it's negative.
- 42:02Speaker 1: Oh the the try hard curse that follows women on
- 42:07Speaker 1: everything they do. It makes me second guess every podcast
- 42:10Speaker 1: episode that I put out, every TikTok that I make.
- 42:14Speaker 1: Also the reason why they're geeked and the reason why
- 42:17Speaker 1: they're crying the entire time is because it didn't hit
- 42:21Speaker 1: me that Wicked is the first movie that's really about
- 42:25Speaker 1: female friendship that we've had in a while a long time,
- 42:29Speaker 1: A long time until people were posting about it and
- 42:32Speaker 1: I was like, you know, what's so weird? I grew
- 42:35Speaker 1: up only watching female friendships in film like I was
- 42:38Speaker 1: in now and then I kid, I was just clueless,
- 42:41Speaker 1: like name them all, practical Magic, any movie that had
- 42:45Speaker 1: more women, and I can't even remember what men besides
- 42:48Speaker 1: Devin Sawa were in them. That's what I was watching.
- 42:52Speaker 2: I think that the last one, if you really think
- 42:54Speaker 2: about it, the last one that was like this big
- 42:56Speaker 2: was Bridesmaids. Honestly no, and that was like I was.
- 43:00Speaker 2: I was in college when that movie.
- 43:01Speaker 1: Came out, and my sister made fun of me and
- 43:04Speaker 1: she's like, you mean, when all of a sudden in
- 43:06Speaker 1: the two thousands because I like, put Clueless in the
- 43:09Speaker 1: early two thousands in there, and she's like, you mean
- 43:12Speaker 1: mean girls where it's all just girls being bitchy to
- 43:14Speaker 1: one another. And I was like, but that's part of
- 43:16Speaker 1: girlhood friendship.
- 43:17Speaker 2: Yeah, and it's also the it's also the singular movie
- 43:19Speaker 2: that defined are the millennial generation in my life?
- 43:23Speaker 1: Correct, There's there's this complexity to number one, Like, let's
- 43:29Speaker 1: not I know that Jonathan Bailey's forty or something. I
- 43:33Speaker 1: don't know, thirty six. I know he's old, he's older. Yeah,
- 43:38Speaker 1: they said, Ah, I love shiz where you can be
- 43:41Speaker 1: a thirty five year old going to college.
- 43:43Speaker 2: He's thirty six. He's thirty thirty.
- 43:45Speaker 1: Six, so he's my age. But imagine me so hot
- 43:49Speaker 1: in college.
- 43:50Speaker 2: He's the hottest person.
- 43:51Speaker 1: He's the hottest personal life and also funny in this movie.
- 43:57Speaker 1: But does no one remember what their friendships were like
- 44:01Speaker 1: in their early twenties, because let me tell you, I
- 44:05Speaker 1: had my own what is this feeling moment in the
- 44:09Speaker 1: breakroom of the McDonald's that I was uh employed at
- 44:13Speaker 1: and someone was playing the soundtrack during their break and
- 44:18Speaker 1: it was the girl who I was kind of friends with.
- 44:20Speaker 1: But I also kind of hated, and we each took
- 44:22Speaker 1: a part.
- 44:24Speaker 2: And we just liked belted it.
- 44:26Speaker 1: In the McDonald's because that's girlhood friendship. And she did
- 44:31Speaker 1: steal a man that I had a crush on, and
- 44:33Speaker 1: then I, six years later stole her ex man, And
- 44:37Speaker 1: that's girlhood friendship. I don't know, that's part of it.
- 44:42Speaker 1: And so I find it so odd that Wig keeps
- 44:47Speaker 1: being talked about as like the friend the girlhood friendship
- 44:50Speaker 1: movie of our decade, because I'm like, that's all I
- 44:54Speaker 1: used to watch. When did all of the women stop
- 44:57Speaker 1: being in movies?
- 44:59Speaker 2: This is the thing. Here's the other reason why this
- 45:02Speaker 2: movie is so good. And I will get I will
- 45:04Speaker 2: talk about going to see Gypsy on Broadway. I will
- 45:07Speaker 2: I will get there. That everything from like twenty ten
- 45:13Speaker 2: on even in I was thinking about with theater as well,
- 45:17Speaker 2: like everything needed to be this like alt different like
- 45:23Speaker 2: like dark version of like that whatever this thing is
- 45:28Speaker 2: like think about like twenty ten to like even like
- 45:30Speaker 2: twenty two thousand and eight ish was even there. It's
- 45:34Speaker 2: like here's this like alt version like remember like sleep
- 45:37Speaker 2: No More? Remember when that was like a huge trend
- 45:40Speaker 2: of like going to these immersive theater things. It was
- 45:41Speaker 2: always like this dark reimagining of like a Shakespearean play
- 45:46Speaker 2: or like, oh, here's like this musical but it's actually
- 45:51Speaker 2: about like it's like Battlestar Galactic of the musical with
- 45:54Speaker 2: like I'm making that up, but like do you know
- 45:56Speaker 2: what I'm saying, Like of like this alt dark version
- 45:59Speaker 2: of them. It was like pushing the boundaries, pushing the
- 46:02Speaker 2: boundaries like what theater is and like what film is
- 46:04Speaker 2: in the sense of like here's this dark reimagining of blank,
- 46:08Speaker 2: Like yes, thing, do you know what I'm saying?
- 46:10Speaker 1: Starthbrooks changed his name and put out an alternative rock
- 46:14Speaker 1: album Chris James.
- 46:15Speaker 2: Thank you. Like that was for so long was like
- 46:20Speaker 2: the prevalent thing to be cool. Yes, And now I
- 46:25Speaker 2: feel like, especially this year, it's like no, actually, we
- 46:31Speaker 2: just want like a very well done version of like
- 46:35Speaker 2: something that we really cherish, and it just be that.
- 46:39Speaker 2: And that is what this movie is. It is not
- 46:42Speaker 2: this like dark reimagining of like Wicked. It just is Wicked, Yes,
- 46:48Speaker 2: do you know what I mean? It's not. It is
- 46:49Speaker 2: just simply the musical turned into a very well done.
- 46:53Speaker 1: Movie without cheapening anything because or.
- 46:57Speaker 2: Like changing things again just to change them in different
- 47:00Speaker 2: and like subvert your expectation.
- 47:03Speaker 1: When so when I was fifteen, by the way, I
- 47:07Speaker 1: had to text Chris after my first viewing of Wicket.
- 47:09Speaker 1: It's not that I forgot about the animal rights subplot,
- 47:14Speaker 1: and yet it took me by surprise.
- 47:17Speaker 2: And what did you say? It was like the way
- 47:19Speaker 2: that I love this like non existent like the goat
- 47:22Speaker 2: or what.
- 47:22Speaker 1: Did you say? The way that I would die for
- 47:25Speaker 1: the cgi go.
- 47:28Speaker 2: Who is actually what's his name?
- 47:29Speaker 1: Yeah, Peter Dinglie do I have a huge thing for
- 47:34Speaker 1: I have a huge thing for Peter.
- 47:37Speaker 2: I also love that they like didn't trot him out
- 47:39Speaker 2: like no, no, pun intended, did not trot him out
- 47:42Speaker 2: to like the premieres where because he would be like,
- 47:44Speaker 2: why the fuck am I here?
- 47:45Speaker 1: Like I would hear the goat on the goat?
- 47:48Speaker 2: He came in for two days and just did his lines.
- 47:49Speaker 1: And it was that they didn't have like human Peter
- 47:53Speaker 1: dingliche like lead a protest or something like.
- 47:59Speaker 2: No, no, no, not at all, not no. He was
- 48:00Speaker 2: like absolutely not, you.
- 48:02Speaker 1: Know, absolutely will or.
- 48:04Speaker 2: It wasn't like his face, do you know what I mean?
- 48:06Speaker 2: It wasn't like a goat that looks like him like,
- 48:08Speaker 2: there's so many ways that it could have been terrible,
- 48:10Speaker 2: and it wasn't anyway.
- 48:12Speaker 1: But when I was fifteen and before, things like misogyny
- 48:15Speaker 1: and men and capitalism and Christianity beat the hell out
- 48:20Speaker 1: of me, and I became the woman that is sitting
- 48:22Speaker 1: on this call today. I was just a fifteen year
- 48:25Speaker 1: old going to the theater for the first time with
- 48:27Speaker 1: her friend and her friend's mom and being swept away
- 48:31Speaker 1: by the magic that was Oz and like, I was
- 48:34Speaker 1: so dumb, Chris. You know the dragon that sits on
- 48:37Speaker 1: top of the stage because it had like a barrel nose.
- 48:40Speaker 1: I was like, what is that a cow? And They're like,
- 48:42Speaker 1: that's a dragon clock and I was like oh, and
- 48:45Speaker 1: they're like pretty big deal. And I'm like, okay. I
- 48:49Speaker 1: never thought that deeply about the story of Wicked, even
- 48:52Speaker 1: after reading the book. For all of the Munchkin sex,
- 48:55Speaker 1: I was like, what dark things? Who knew? But they
- 48:58Speaker 1: honored my w from when I was fifteen With also Nadley,
- 49:03Speaker 1: aren't you devastated about what's coming down the pipe in
- 49:06Speaker 1: twenty twenty five? And I was like, yeah, Cynthia, a little, yeah, yes,
- 49:11Speaker 1: Like yeah, Glinda a little. When people tell me that
- 49:15Speaker 1: they just don't get it. They're like, I just what's
- 49:18Speaker 1: going on? I don't even get this movie. I'm like,
- 49:20Speaker 1: here's the thing. When I sat there by myself on
- 49:23Speaker 1: a Tuesday afternoon and Cynthia Arrivo was singing Defying Gravity,
- 49:29Speaker 1: I was like, I don't know, how better to explain
- 49:33Speaker 1: what it feels like to be begging your friends to
- 49:39Speaker 1: want better for themselves than the SpongeBob motherfuckers that they have,
- 49:44Speaker 1: than the men who are mean, the men who are cheating,
- 49:46Speaker 1: the men who are literally just losers, and just screaming
- 49:51Speaker 1: at them unlimited. If we all told them no, we
- 49:54Speaker 1: could be unlimited and for them, and then for the
- 49:57Speaker 1: data to come in and see a majority of the
- 50:00Speaker 1: women that you go to the grocery store every day,
- 50:03Speaker 1: who are white women voted for Trump. I'm like, that's
- 50:05Speaker 1: what it feels like. It feels like you're the person
- 50:08Speaker 1: being like, oh no, I'm doing this. I'm flying away
- 50:12Speaker 1: on the broom to go live in the West with
- 50:14Speaker 1: my monkeys, and the white women are like, I don't know,
- 50:18Speaker 1: Like Jeff Goldbloom is quite charming, and like.
- 50:22Speaker 2: You know, I'm also like, what's not to get? Like
- 50:24Speaker 2: how do people if you don't understand what the theme
- 50:28Speaker 2: of the movie, I'm concerned for your mental state. Like
- 50:33Speaker 2: it's pretty spelled out for you.
- 50:35Speaker 1: I the way that Ariana, for all that she is
- 50:38Speaker 1: and all that her past contained Asian.
- 50:42Speaker 2: Yeah no, yeah, la accents, yeah yeah, tans, because she
- 50:46Speaker 2: is a woman of the world and from every.
- 50:48Speaker 1: Consonant, because she is every woman. It's all in her.
- 50:52Speaker 1: Arianna gave such nuance to this role of what do
- 50:56Speaker 1: you do when your friend is too scared to take
- 51:00Speaker 1: the leap with you and turn their back on all
- 51:05Speaker 1: of the things that have technically made her successful and
- 51:08Speaker 1: safe and pretty. And you know, it's not easy turning
- 51:13Speaker 1: your back on privilege to be like, sure, I'll live
- 51:16Speaker 1: in the desert with you on this brutal well.
- 51:20Speaker 2: And that's like not what she wants. That's the other
- 51:22Speaker 2: thing about this is like the point of the story
- 51:24Speaker 2: is that it's like these two people both want something
- 51:26Speaker 2: and then they both go to try to get it.
- 51:28Speaker 2: And then once she realizes, once Cynthia realizes that the
- 51:33Speaker 2: thing that she's wanted the whole time, which we learn
- 51:35Speaker 2: in her what they call a want song w ant,
- 51:39Speaker 2: which is the wizard and I that's a musical theater term. People,
- 51:42Speaker 2: It's like, understand what the driving force of your main
- 51:45Speaker 2: character is is the want song. She wants to meet
- 51:49Speaker 2: the wizards so that he can fix her life. And
- 51:50Speaker 2: then she realizes, oh, you actually don't have any power
- 51:52Speaker 2: and I am more powerful than you, So now what
- 51:56Speaker 2: do I even want with my life? Right?
- 51:57Speaker 1: It's when you realize that you're smarter than all of
- 52:00Speaker 1: your male bosses and you're the person doing all the work.
- 52:05Speaker 2: And then first but that's the thing is Glinda never wants.
- 52:07Speaker 2: Glinda wants to be famous. Glinda wants to be have
- 52:14Speaker 2: power because and be truly like Glinda the good. Yes, Like,
- 52:18Speaker 2: I think that she really does want and it's not
- 52:20Speaker 2: in a mean way. It's in a she thinks that
- 52:21Speaker 2: that's what she wants that will get what she means.
- 52:24Speaker 1: And it's the reason why you see so many women
- 52:29Speaker 1: get real close make themselves comfortable within patriarchy and misogyny
- 52:34Speaker 1: is because you don't know how to feel powerful. So
- 52:37Speaker 1: Glinda's like, I'll be in a pretty bubble and I'll
- 52:40Speaker 1: marry Fierro and everything will be perfect, and that song's
- 52:43Speaker 1: coming in part two.
- 52:45Speaker 2: I also think too, if you really think about it,
- 52:48Speaker 2: And I don't even cause it's like, I know, we're
- 52:50Speaker 2: giving spoilish people that don't know the musical like that,
- 52:52Speaker 2: but it's like, it really is that thing of like
- 52:55Speaker 2: do I work from the outside as like a protester,
- 52:58Speaker 2: or do I work from the inside to get what
- 53:01Speaker 2: I want? Do you know what I mean?
- 53:02Speaker 1: Like?
- 53:02Speaker 2: Which is a which is kind of very much like
- 53:06Speaker 2: something that's very in the zeitgeist right now.
- 53:08Speaker 1: Well, and it's also if my friends are several beats
- 53:13Speaker 1: behind me on where I am in the fight or
- 53:17Speaker 1: the cause or the radicalization.
- 53:19Speaker 2: Or just like my own yeah, like my own betterment
- 53:23Speaker 2: or whatever, right.
- 53:24Speaker 1: Yeah, Because it's even by the end of the movie,
- 53:26Speaker 1: it's even driving a wedge between Glinda and Fierro because
- 53:29Speaker 1: now all of a sudden, Fierro's like, I could hold
- 53:32Speaker 1: this sign, I could carry a traffic cheetah, Why I
- 53:40Speaker 1: could do that? And so even Glinda's like, I don't
- 53:43Speaker 1: even know how to talk to Fierro anymore. He's so
- 53:47Speaker 1: political what.
- 53:49Speaker 2: She says, like he's been thinking, he's been thinking again
- 53:52Speaker 2: on the floor, like on the floor.
- 53:54Speaker 1: Yes, And so there's a lot right now that I've
- 54:00Speaker 1: been struggling with for an entire year of like what
- 54:03Speaker 1: do you do when your friends are still so behind,
- 54:06Speaker 1: like so behind the idea of a world that doesn't
- 54:10Speaker 1: revolve around capitalism and money and men and men holding
- 54:14Speaker 1: you down and all of it. And I was like,
- 54:17Speaker 1: that's what defying gravity is to me. It's like, no,
- 54:20Speaker 1: please come follow me. Oh you won't. Okay, I'm still
- 54:24Speaker 1: gonna sing for good. Yeah for two it's fine.
- 54:28Speaker 2: But I think I not to turn this into a
- 54:30Speaker 2: therapy session, but I think it's like you have to
- 54:32Speaker 2: beat You have to meet people where they are like
- 54:34Speaker 2: you can't. That person has to do it.
- 54:36Speaker 1: Themselves right exactly, because.
- 54:39Speaker 2: Again and again, just like the movie, it's like Glinda's like, no,
- 54:41Speaker 2: this isn't my dream, it's your dream exactly, and so
- 54:44Speaker 2: now like you need to do that, and I need
- 54:46Speaker 2: to do that. And that doesn't mean that we're It's
- 54:48Speaker 2: actually funny because in so many and I feel like
- 54:51Speaker 2: in so many shows, especially in the last five years,
- 54:54Speaker 2: and I think Broad City is like the crown jewel
- 54:57Speaker 2: of this. It's a show about people in a codependent
- 55:02Speaker 2: relationship and how it's terrible. I think another version of
- 55:06Speaker 2: this is from wayback is Seinfeld, like Jerry and George
- 55:08Speaker 2: being in a codependent relationship is I think like the
- 55:11Speaker 2: maybe the blueprint of it, but like in the last
- 55:15Speaker 2: what ten years, like in the twenty tens, it's broad City,
- 55:19Speaker 2: It's broad City, and then like all the other like
- 55:21Speaker 2: offshoot versions of that that are like kind of born
- 55:25Speaker 2: out of the success of that show. But like this
- 55:28Speaker 2: is actually a movie about them not having a codependent relationship, right,
- 55:33Speaker 2: They actually both go their separate ways to see what
- 55:35Speaker 2: they can do and like what will happen to them?
- 55:38Speaker 1: Yeah, And my big thing that I've been saying every
- 55:42Speaker 1: time I'm mad is well, you can't save them all.
- 55:45Speaker 1: And that came up in James back Boy's last movie,
- 55:48Speaker 1: Speak No Evil, where some where they left a woman
- 55:52Speaker 1: behind because she was still siding with James back Boy.
- 55:55Speaker 1: And I looked at my sister's best friend of many
- 55:57Speaker 1: years and I went, you can't fucking save them all
- 56:00Speaker 1: and she went, well that's dark, and I was like,
- 56:02Speaker 1: and yet it's the one It's the one lesson I've learned. Yeah, Like, yeah,
- 56:10Speaker 1: you just have to do what did what you're You
- 56:13Speaker 1: need to do what you do that keeps your soul intact,
- 56:16Speaker 1: and for Alphabet it was, yeah, she probably could have
- 56:19Speaker 1: like wormed her weight in good with the Wizard and
- 56:22Speaker 1: then taken him down or assassinated him or whatever, and
- 56:25Speaker 1: instead she was like, I don't even want to spend
- 56:27Speaker 1: time with him, Like I'm not no, I'm not into this.
- 56:33Speaker 1: And the theme of the movie being are you born wicked?
- 56:36Speaker 1: Or is wickedness thrusted upon you?
- 56:39Speaker 2: Is?
- 56:39Speaker 1: So I think it's way more powerful in the movie
- 56:43Speaker 1: than it is in the stage adaptation. I think they
- 56:46Speaker 1: I don't.
- 56:47Speaker 2: Know, I don't know if I agree with that. I
- 56:49Speaker 2: kind of.
- 56:49Speaker 1: Seen the musical in a while.
- 56:51Speaker 2: I kind of feel like I that part because to me,
- 56:55Speaker 2: like when I think of wicked, I think of like,
- 56:57Speaker 2: is are people born wicked? Or do they have wicked
- 57:00Speaker 2: thrust upon them? And that is kind of like a
- 57:02Speaker 2: throwaway line in the movie, and that to me is
- 57:05Speaker 2: like sets up the entire the entire story, and like
- 57:10Speaker 2: they don't even have it on when they show that line.
- 57:13Speaker 2: It's on a shot of like the poster of like
- 57:17Speaker 2: the Witch, Like they don't even show Ariana saying that,
- 57:21Speaker 2: And I feel like that I was like, that was
- 57:24Speaker 2: that was one thing. I was like, oh, that could
- 57:25Speaker 2: have been different, because that, to me is like the
- 57:28Speaker 2: entire the entire movie theme of the thing, you know
- 57:31Speaker 2: what I mean, is like everyone because the whole thing
- 57:33Speaker 2: is like you make the choice, like the thing is
- 57:38Speaker 2: how do I say this? When it first came out,
- 57:40Speaker 2: it was like, oh, we're reimagining the story of the
- 57:42Speaker 2: Wicked Witch of the West. Now Wicked had become its
- 57:45Speaker 2: own whole thing. That's like, we know these characters and
- 57:46Speaker 2: like Alpha, but has not become more famous than the
- 57:49Speaker 2: Wicked Witch of the West and the Wizard of Oz
- 57:51Speaker 2: in my opinion, for people so alive, like for us,
- 57:55Speaker 2: whereas in the Wizard of like at the time of
- 57:57Speaker 2: it coming out, it was like so novel that it
- 57:59Speaker 2: was like this reimagining of the Wizard of Oz as
- 58:02Speaker 2: like the prequel to Wizard of Oz which then was born,
- 58:06Speaker 2: like the Star Wars prequels, and like the Hobbit movies
- 58:09Speaker 2: and like all that, you know what I mean, Like
- 58:10Speaker 2: it like all these like prequels are like was a
- 58:13Speaker 2: huge thing at the time, and so it's like we
- 58:18Speaker 2: almost forget that because we just it is the story
- 58:20Speaker 2: of Wicked that is like it's just been so normalized
- 58:23Speaker 2: to be that, whereas like when it first came out,
- 58:25Speaker 2: that was the whole point was like, is the Wicked
- 58:27Speaker 2: Witch of the West actually actually bad? Okay? So in
- 58:30Speaker 2: Beowulf there's a monster called Grendel, and I remember that
- 58:35Speaker 2: when we read Beowulf in high school, people were like, oh,
- 58:37Speaker 2: they did this really cool version where it's from Grendel's
- 58:40Speaker 2: perspective and it's like a different book that's like from
- 58:42Speaker 2: the monster's perspective, and like, that's what wicked is is
- 58:45Speaker 2: this same thing? Do you know what I mean? Like
- 58:48Speaker 2: it was like and again at the time, that was
- 58:49Speaker 2: like all and cool and different, and like, oh.
- 58:52Speaker 1: I loved a twisted fairy tale. I loved a fairy
- 58:55Speaker 1: tale from a different point of view. I love oh.
- 58:59Speaker 1: When I was a kid, part of the reason I
- 59:01Speaker 1: was a big reader is because we lived through the
- 59:03Speaker 1: age of them just revamping. Uh now it's Beauty and
- 59:08Speaker 1: the Beast, but he's a lion, and it's.
- 59:10Speaker 2: Like, yes, that's yeah. And then I'm so glad that
- 59:14Speaker 2: they like didn't do any of that right. It wasn't
- 59:17Speaker 2: this thing that was. It was truly just like this
- 59:20Speaker 2: is the musical on film with with hundreds of millions
- 59:25Speaker 2: of dollars put behind it? Do you know what I mean?
- 59:27Speaker 1: Like with like well, and I think, also, what does
- 59:31Speaker 1: it always? Because I go back and forth on the
- 59:35Speaker 1: villain retellings because we're getting a scar one. They named
- 59:39Speaker 1: it the Mufasa movie, but I think what it's gonna
- 59:41Speaker 1: end up doing is making us all a scar. Yeah,
- 59:44Speaker 1: we're gonna be like, fuck mu was an asshole, Yeah
- 59:47Speaker 1: fuck Scar got got like yeah.
- 59:51Speaker 2: Probably yeah, So did anyone ask for this movie? Now?
- 59:55Speaker 2: And I would have.
- 59:56Speaker 1: I would have gone if they had done cute Disney animation,
- 59:59Speaker 1: but they did the fucking lif action shit. So I'm
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: not going. And I don't care how many sauce slin
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: Manuel Miranda wrote, I'm not going. Every once in a while,
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: I get real Republican about shit and I'm like, villain
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: shouldn't be able to be redeemed, like like Scar did
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: some shit and it was bad and I don't want
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: to know it's tragical life story. But with Alphaba, I
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: was sold. And I think that Cynthia does a really
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: great job of humanizing her because of those small moments
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: where she's showing on her face that this is hard
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: for her too. I think when I listen to Idina
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: do it. It leans more on the proud and the stubborn,
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: and Cynthia continuously shows me, Hey, this is hard for
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: me too. It's hard being the good guy being made
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: out to be the bad guy.
- 1:00:49Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, do you have you seen these videos of
- 1:00:54Speaker 2: Adina Menzel singing Not to malign this woman, but when
- 1:00:59Speaker 2: she and like all this to say, like devine gravity
- 1:01:02Speaker 2: is like one of the hardest songs to sing ever,
- 1:01:04Speaker 2: and like the Frozen song, like I don't know if
- 1:01:07Speaker 2: anyone can actually really sing the song, like it's so
- 1:01:10Speaker 2: hard to sing that let it Go, Like that song
- 1:01:12Speaker 2: is so high and so crazy. But do you see
- 1:01:15Speaker 2: where she's singing and it's like let the storm rage ah,
- 1:01:19Speaker 2: and she doesn't hit it and she like tries like
- 1:01:22Speaker 2: six times, and it's so embarrassing.
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: I've always wanted to know, Okay, not don't have Dominic
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: come after me, but like even Cher's voice eventually started
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: to show its age, and like Dolly Parton's voice, like
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: your vocal.
- 1:01:37Speaker 2: No, sure, yeah, of course, of course, of course, of course.
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: I would love to know what women who Hushanaia Twain
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: has aged out of her hits, Like what do you
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: do to keep your vocal chords.
- 1:01:49Speaker 2: Well, Selene, you said Selene had to do like a
- 1:01:51Speaker 2: she would do like a saline thing. E've like she
- 1:01:53Speaker 2: like you have to like do you have to see
- 1:01:56Speaker 2: such maintenance on it? And like she can't sing it
- 1:01:59Speaker 2: and it's like she cried it was so embarrassing. I'm
- 1:02:03Speaker 2: sure she keeps trying to hit the note and then
- 1:02:05Speaker 2: she's like you guys couldn't do it either, Like I
- 1:02:07Speaker 2: was like, oh and even on the press store, like
- 1:02:09Speaker 2: Adina is like like looks just like so miffed by
- 1:02:14Speaker 2: the whole thing, whereas like Kristen is like, I love them.
- 1:02:17Speaker 2: There are girls, there are girls, but like the few
- 1:02:18Speaker 2: times that Adena's is like the four of them, she
- 1:02:21Speaker 2: looks like just so like miserable.
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: Could you she Okay, no, because it's hard aging in
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: this industry, especially in Broadway. I mean, you did just
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: see Gypsy with Odra, right.
- 1:02:33Speaker 2: Okay, we'll get there, but yes, continue, but it's hard.
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: It's a hard industry. But then I think of like
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: Sunset Boulevard and how crazy that main character was, and
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: I was like, no, that is what happens to you.
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: You go Gray Gardens.
- 1:02:47Speaker 2: But like she's not, but this is the thing. It's
- 1:02:49Speaker 2: like she was in I mean, she's like a Broadway legend. Yes,
- 1:02:53Speaker 2: like period for this role and so many others.
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: Were you a rent kid too?
- 1:02:59Speaker 2: Yeah, of course she's like the original character in one
- 1:03:02Speaker 2: of the original characters, Mari.
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: Agree, and she's Marine in the movie.
- 1:03:08Speaker 2: She's also the Wild Party, like is a musical. It's
- 1:03:11Speaker 2: like a lesser known one, but like she's the original
- 1:03:13Speaker 2: Wild Party. And so she sings one of the best
- 1:03:15Speaker 2: songs in theater ever called the Life of the Party,
- 1:03:19Speaker 2: about how she's just like a drunken slot and she
- 1:03:21Speaker 2: just like she's like I as long as I'm like partying,
- 1:03:24Speaker 2: like I'll do whatever, and like as long as that
- 1:03:26Speaker 2: party keeps going, we're good to go, and like, don't
- 1:03:28Speaker 2: you want to feel like this? It's such a good song,
- 1:03:31Speaker 2: and like I almost think that she it seems to me.
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: Do you feel like she feels sholved.
- 1:03:38Speaker 2: She feels like she's like I did all this amazing
- 1:03:41Speaker 2: stuff and like none of you care.
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: I Dina, I'm talking directly to you right now. I
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: do care. We care? Yeah? Take Me or Leave Me
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: was my MySpace song, when, of course it was it
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: was take Me or leave me because like, yeah, I
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: don't know.
- 1:04:00Speaker 2: She just seems I don't know what's going on with her,
- 1:04:02Speaker 2: but like it's I don't know when I look with
- 1:04:05Speaker 2: some of the YouTube now that my YouTube algorithm has
- 1:04:07Speaker 2: been wrecked and it's not just ASMR videos anymore of
- 1:04:10Speaker 2: like people getting massaged, and now it's like everything about Wicked. Ever,
- 1:04:15Speaker 2: there's like all these things of her performing and I'm like,
- 1:04:17Speaker 2: she sounds terrible.
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: Well, that's why I never I was gonna get tickets
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: to Shania Twain's last tour and my friend texted me
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: and she's like, you need to look this.
- 1:04:27Speaker 2: Tour up on Yeah, you need to get eyes on this.
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: Yeah, she's like because she's not finishing, And because I
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: was going to take my mom and I told Mom,
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: I go, this isn't how we wanna Remembernia.
- 1:04:38Speaker 2: That's why I'm nervous to ever go see Selina again,
- 1:04:40Speaker 2: because I'm like, is she going to be stuff? Like
- 1:04:42Speaker 2: do you know what I mean? It's like I might
- 1:04:43Speaker 2: have seen the last good one ever.
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: Yeah. It's a weird thing to be a woman who
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: was born in nineteen eighty eight and knew everything about
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: these older women and is like, well, I'll never get
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: to see good share good Share. Fuck, I don't get
- 1:05:02Speaker 1: to live well when good Like I'll never get to
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: see the Beatles fuck, Like yeah, yeah, I bet you,
- 1:05:08Speaker 1: I bet you. It's just that, like, because you're right,
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: she's technically not to the point where she would be
- 1:05:14Speaker 1: aging out of the industry, but she's not also in
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: the part of her life where she's hot for roles
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: on the industry, you know.
- 1:05:25Speaker 2: And there's all these videos on the Internet of her
- 1:05:27Speaker 2: singing badly do you know what I mean? And I'm like, oh, like, oh,
- 1:05:31Speaker 2: like I love Lucy right into the camera, you know
- 1:05:32Speaker 2: what I mean. I'm like, it doesn't it's not great. However,
- 1:05:35Speaker 2: there's just she's doing some new musical that's like all
- 1:05:38Speaker 2: built around her that's like coming out in like next month.
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: Well, maybe she's just egotistical and that's why te Diggs
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: loved her slam Blayo look at me fightied women of
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: my own.
- 1:05:51Speaker 2: I mean, you never know, no, but there's like it's there.
- 1:05:53Speaker 2: It's palpable, like when the four of them are together
- 1:05:55Speaker 2: that she's like the odd one out.
- 1:05:57Speaker 1: I hate that because I don't love.
- 1:06:00Speaker 2: I know, but I don't I feel that she's not
- 1:06:02Speaker 2: giving the love that I know. Kristen's like being a
- 1:06:04Speaker 2: lunatic because she is a mummy. Yeah, like she is
- 1:06:07Speaker 2: such a lunatic. But like that, Adina is like, I.
- 1:06:10Speaker 1: Don't know, it is. I think it's I think it's
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: honestly harder to be forty in the industry than it
- 1:06:17Speaker 1: is to be sixty.
- 1:06:18Speaker 2: In the industry sometimes because.
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: You know, like Jane Fonda can play anyone do whatever.
- 1:06:24Speaker 2: She was she's eighty almost How old is she? She's
- 1:06:26Speaker 2: like almost eighty years old or she is?
- 1:06:28Speaker 1: Yes, she is Adie. Yeah, I don't know.
- 1:06:31Speaker 2: But okay, So to get to Gypsy really quickly, yes,
- 1:06:34Speaker 2: Odra again, back to my thesis of this episode, we
- 1:06:40Speaker 2: got we went to Gypsy Audra McDonald playing the titular
- 1:06:43Speaker 2: role of not even the titular role. Actually it's actually
- 1:06:46Speaker 2: not the titular role, but it but the main character
- 1:06:49Speaker 2: Mama Rose, Mama Rose. Many people were like, can she
- 1:06:52Speaker 2: sing this? And because it like is but like her
- 1:06:55Speaker 2: voice is very different, she's not a belt. They are
- 1:06:58Speaker 2: correct and thinking that way. And I will say that
- 1:07:00Speaker 2: the two biggest songs of the show, like she does
- 1:07:03Speaker 2: do her version of them versus which I'm fine with
- 1:07:06Speaker 2: because she's not Patti Lapone or she's not a belter,
- 1:07:10Speaker 2: do you know what I mean? Like she does a
- 1:07:12Speaker 2: different her voice is more delicate, and she I will
- 1:07:14Speaker 2: tell you just to get not I'll get in the
- 1:07:16Speaker 2: weeds for two seconds. Her version of Everything's coming up
- 1:07:19Speaker 2: Roses is, in my opinion, the most. I was the
- 1:07:22Speaker 2: most blown away by that than any person that I've
- 1:07:25Speaker 2: ever seen performing. And that's kind of a throwaway song.
- 1:07:29Speaker 2: It's not a throway song, but it's like a it's
- 1:07:31Speaker 2: the end of the first act and it's like just
- 1:07:33Speaker 2: like she's so excited about it. But this version that
- 1:07:36Speaker 2: she does it is like she's like, I have to
- 1:07:38Speaker 2: make this work because if I don't like what am
- 1:07:40Speaker 2: I life Like she's more frantic and more like this
- 1:07:43Speaker 2: is my only hope, and you feel she acts the
- 1:07:47Speaker 2: shit out of this, Like I'm like, you will want
- 1:07:49Speaker 2: to Toni one hundred percent because just she does it
- 1:07:51Speaker 2: in a way that I've never seen before. And again,
- 1:07:54Speaker 2: this isn't like ooh, it's like this bold, weird take
- 1:07:57Speaker 2: where like three black girls are gonna be the of
- 1:08:00Speaker 2: this musical, like it's just simply gypsy. In the same time.
- 1:08:05Speaker 2: They just are black.
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: It's not you know, I mean, it's Queen Latifa's version
- 1:08:10Speaker 1: of Steel Meth Dolius.
- 1:08:12Speaker 2: No, it's not, no, but do you know what I'm saying.
- 1:08:15Speaker 2: It's just like yeah, it is a well done version
- 1:08:19Speaker 2: of this thing. And again like you feel it. You
- 1:08:23Speaker 2: feel that all through the musical of like this is
- 1:08:27Speaker 2: them and they're like these black girls that are fighting
- 1:08:29Speaker 2: so badly to get stage time and they won't get it.
- 1:08:31Speaker 2: Like they didn't need to change any of it. It
- 1:08:33Speaker 2: was so well done because they didn't have to do
- 1:08:35Speaker 2: it was a very well done version of something that
- 1:08:37Speaker 2: we all love. When I tell you, the people in
- 1:08:39Speaker 2: the audience were like, this is my favorite musical. Myself included,
- 1:08:42Speaker 2: this is my favorite musical. I can't wait. Everyone is
- 1:08:45Speaker 2: like jet, everyone's talking, everyone's so jazzed, everyone's so excited,
- 1:08:49Speaker 2: and they get on that stage and when I tell you,
- 1:08:51Speaker 2: they just knock them dead, number after number, and you're
- 1:08:55Speaker 2: just the audience was rare, rabid, Like when she finished
- 1:09:03Speaker 2: Rose's turn at the end, we all stood up and
- 1:09:07Speaker 2: gave her a standing ovation. People were screaming bloody murder.
- 1:09:12Speaker 2: I like her and people people in the front row
- 1:09:16Speaker 2: getting like almost getting on stage basically because we were
- 1:09:18Speaker 2: up so much. When every person when the when every
- 1:09:22Speaker 2: single main character came on the set for the first time,
- 1:09:24Speaker 2: we it was like a It was like Meryl Streep
- 1:09:27Speaker 2: was like it was like as if even the girl
- 1:09:31Speaker 2: the younger girls who were like these two really good
- 1:09:32Speaker 2: girls that went up were on the notebook. Like when
- 1:09:35Speaker 2: Louise and June, like the adult versions, came out applaud it,
- 1:09:39Speaker 2: we were like going crazy. They're like nobody, Like they're
- 1:09:43Speaker 2: not that famous, you know what I mean. Like they're
- 1:09:45Speaker 2: both so talented, but like they're not an household named
- 1:09:47Speaker 2: Audra McDonald, and we were screaming bloody murder for them.
- 1:09:51Speaker 2: It was we are hitting the return of well done
- 1:09:55Speaker 2: classic that is like led by talent. Not Chicago. Not
- 1:10:03Speaker 2: I love you know, I love her, but like not
- 1:10:07Speaker 2: Arianomattox in Chicago.
- 1:10:09Speaker 1: Not but did you see her at the Macy's Thanksgiving
- 1:10:12Speaker 1: Day parade?
- 1:10:12Speaker 2: Because she's come a long way, sure, but like not
- 1:10:19Speaker 2: do you know what I mean? Not Christie Brinkley in Chicago,
- 1:10:22Speaker 2: which I saw and wanted to kill myself.
- 1:10:24Speaker 1: Okay, well you know what my hot take on Chicago is,
- 1:10:28Speaker 1: what is that roxy was built for women who can't
- 1:10:31Speaker 1: sing because think of it, like the story. The story
- 1:10:34Speaker 1: should revolve around a woman who has no star power
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: and literally goes to jail trying to fuck find me.
- 1:10:41Speaker 2: I mean, none of the songs actually are that talented.
- 1:10:44Speaker 1: No, mm hmm, Belma does all the talent.
- 1:10:49Speaker 2: We are again we are returning to not this like
- 1:10:54Speaker 2: weird steampunk version of blah blah blah show. Yeah you
- 1:10:58Speaker 2: know what I'm saying, or like one, but it's all
- 1:11:01Speaker 2: like different genders playing the different roles of the do
- 1:11:04Speaker 2: you know what I mean? How they always try to
- 1:11:05Speaker 2: do like weird things too for publicity, like just for
- 1:11:09Speaker 2: no reason, or like we're doing like this, but this
- 1:11:12Speaker 2: person this time is like a secretary instead of like
- 1:11:14Speaker 2: a pounder girl, you know what I mean, where they
- 1:11:17Speaker 2: like change it to be like present day or stuff
- 1:11:19Speaker 2: like that, don't need it, are red d for just
- 1:11:22Speaker 2: like the classics done again extremely well period.
- 1:11:26Speaker 1: And I think Cynthia and Ariana and again who knew?
- 1:11:31Speaker 1: Who knew Ariana Grande would be an actress who could
- 1:11:34Speaker 1: contain multitudes of nuance?
- 1:11:37Speaker 2: Not me.
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: There's some face work she's doing and no one mourns
- 1:11:40Speaker 1: the wicked. She's doing that thing where you hold your
- 1:11:43Speaker 1: face really still, but it's because you're upset and you're
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: just trying to be like uh huh oh no.
- 1:11:50Speaker 2: And you feel it in the and you feel it
- 1:11:52Speaker 2: in the show like you feel it in that number
- 1:11:55Speaker 2: where she's you see that she doesn't know what's really like.
- 1:11:58Speaker 2: She's like, I guess I'm gonna throw this this like
- 1:12:03Speaker 2: torch and burn my friend's effigy, do you know what
- 1:12:06Speaker 2: I mean? And then she's like, well, I have to
- 1:12:08Speaker 2: do this, this is what I And again it's like
- 1:12:10Speaker 2: you see that and we know because we know the story, yes,
- 1:12:12Speaker 2: like I've chosen this and so now I have to
- 1:12:15Speaker 2: like go full in. And she's like, well, there's nothing
- 1:12:17Speaker 2: enough to do about it, and so I have to
- 1:12:18Speaker 2: throw it, you know what I mean? I had to
- 1:12:20Speaker 2: like throw the.
- 1:12:21Speaker 1: And well, and for anyone who doesn't know the show
- 1:12:24Speaker 1: and know what's coming up, please know that there are
- 1:12:26Speaker 1: no happy parts in part two. They put all of
- 1:12:29Speaker 1: the all the sad parts in the second movie.
- 1:12:33Speaker 2: I actually think but this is the thing. I actually
- 1:12:35Speaker 2: think that because I don't really love the second half
- 1:12:37Speaker 2: of the show. I don't think it's it's like good,
- 1:12:40Speaker 2: but it's like the first part is exponentially better. But
- 1:12:44Speaker 2: I actually think that the movie will make it better.
- 1:12:47Speaker 1: Oh for sure. I so, what are your favorite songs
- 1:12:52Speaker 1: before you went and saw the movie? Like what were
- 1:12:54Speaker 1: your banners from the soundtrack the Wizard?
- 1:12:56Speaker 2: And I okay, obviously frank gravity, but like that that's
- 1:12:59Speaker 2: where you're putting that aside and then probably popular.
- 1:13:04Speaker 1: Okay, mine, we're always what is this feeling? Because I'm petty, yeah,
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: and I hate a lot of people. And then from
- 1:13:11Speaker 1: act too, it's always for good, and like I think
- 1:13:15Speaker 1: of for good when like an exponential like today when
- 1:13:19Speaker 1: I was singing for Good and I was like and
- 1:13:20Speaker 1: later on I'm going to be recording for with Chris
- 1:13:23Speaker 1: and He's changed my life, Chelsea's changed my life. Like
- 1:13:26Speaker 1: it's such like if you're a person who's constantly in
- 1:13:29Speaker 1: your feelings about like all the luckiness you've had about
- 1:13:33Speaker 1: meeting people or whatever, for good is like crack because
- 1:13:37Speaker 1: you're correct because you're constantly crying.
- 1:13:41Speaker 2: When they keep saying that their version of it, like
- 1:13:44Speaker 2: they like were like, what was the song that you
- 1:13:45Speaker 2: liked singing together the most? And they said for good
- 1:13:48Speaker 2: like they were like each of them say that, and
- 1:13:50Speaker 2: because they already shot the whole freakin movie like it's done.
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: I crave it. And I crave because you know, I
- 1:13:55Speaker 1: used to be real horny, so I do crave as
- 1:13:58Speaker 1: long as your mind.
- 1:13:59Speaker 2: Yeah, that'll good.
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: That one of them, Bailey just like rolling around in
- 1:14:02Speaker 1: a dark swamp singing sixty songs.
- 1:14:06Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm really nervous to see, like what he's gonna
- 1:14:09Speaker 2: look like is the scarecrow?
- 1:14:11Speaker 1: Aren't we all? I know?
- 1:14:14Speaker 2: Okay, so do we think that? Oh? No, we know,
- 1:14:19Speaker 2: we know?
- 1:14:20Speaker 1: What do we know?
- 1:14:21Speaker 2: Because like in the beginning shot, whenever it's like her
- 1:14:25Speaker 2: hat is like she's like singed away, but then like
- 1:14:28Speaker 2: the next on's the monkey slide of the window. The
- 1:14:30Speaker 2: next shot you see is someone riding a horse and
- 1:14:32Speaker 2: that's her right.
- 1:14:34Speaker 1: Well at the end of the musical, don't they just
- 1:14:37Speaker 1: pop out from like her base and yeah, and.
- 1:14:40Speaker 2: They're like, oh, we're gonna be music's over. I think that,
- 1:14:43Speaker 2: like I think that Glinda is gonna know, like weirdly,
- 1:14:45Speaker 2: I feel like there's gonna be a shot of Glinda
- 1:14:47Speaker 2: doing like four good and she's gonna look up and
- 1:14:48Speaker 2: like see that she's like on her broom like way
- 1:14:51Speaker 2: in the distance and then like fly away, and then
- 1:14:53Speaker 2: she's gonna be like, even though that's something happens in that,
- 1:14:57Speaker 2: that doesn't that's not what happens in the I.
- 1:15:00Speaker 1: Can't remember if that's what happens in the book.
- 1:15:02Speaker 2: It's Oh, I don't know. No, she dies in the book.
- 1:15:05Speaker 1: Oh, she dies in the book, and Fiero isn't the scarecrow.
- 1:15:08Speaker 2: She she thinks that he's going to be the scarecrow,
- 1:15:11Speaker 2: and then that was like her last hope is that
- 1:15:13Speaker 2: he's going to be the scarecrow and get it come
- 1:15:14Speaker 2: to and then when they does, he does, when the
- 1:15:17Speaker 2: scarecrow gets there, it's not him. It's not him, and
- 1:15:20Speaker 2: so she's like, that was my last reason. I remember
- 1:15:22Speaker 2: the climax of the book being like so intense, and
- 1:15:25Speaker 2: she like hates Dorothy so much. But then once she
- 1:15:28Speaker 2: realizes that Dorothy just is like an outcast here like
- 1:15:31Speaker 2: she was, then she's like, I'm a fucking terrible person.
- 1:15:34Speaker 1: Yeah, and then she dies. The book is so fucking dark.
- 1:15:37Speaker 2: It's so dark, so dark, we're talking about dark reimagining
- 1:15:40Speaker 2: that the.
- 1:15:41Speaker 1: Book God and he wrote it to be dark and
- 1:15:45Speaker 1: political and to make us think about our lives, and
- 1:15:47Speaker 1: we didn't.
- 1:15:48Speaker 2: Now let's read it, and then you're like, what the
- 1:15:52Speaker 2: fuck is this?
- 1:15:53Speaker 1: Yeah, I thought it was just gonna be orgy on orgies.
- 1:15:58Speaker 2: But then like yeah, right, because like again, like it's
- 1:16:01Speaker 2: like the monkeys break through in that first part. That's
- 1:16:04Speaker 2: like the no no no no no no no, the
- 1:16:06Speaker 2: monkeys break through the window. But then as you see them,
- 1:16:08Speaker 2: then you see that there's like the drawbridge and it's
- 1:16:10Speaker 2: like a hooded figure on a horse like riding for
- 1:16:13Speaker 2: a minute, but like that's her.
- 1:16:15Speaker 1: It's got to be.
- 1:16:15Speaker 2: It has to be right there. Whose And then you
- 1:16:18Speaker 2: go up over that thing and then you see the
- 1:16:20Speaker 2: wizard like you see Dorothy and all the people.
- 1:16:22Speaker 1: Well, you know what, Chris, I'm seeing it for a
- 1:16:24Speaker 1: third time on Saturdays.
- 1:16:25Speaker 2: So I'll be made same same, so we'll be able
- 1:16:28Speaker 2: to verify this.
- 1:16:29Speaker 1: I told I told my step mom. I was like,
- 1:16:31Speaker 1: I might see it once a week until it's gone,
- 1:16:34Speaker 1: until they won't let me see it anymore, like until
- 1:16:37Speaker 1: they physically remove it from theaters. Because it's a great
- 1:16:41Speaker 1: way to spend three hours. It's just sure, it's really beautiful.
- 1:16:46Speaker 1: How do you feel because we talked about talent, but
- 1:16:51Speaker 1: as with all good shows, there was stunk casting, and
- 1:16:53Speaker 1: it came in the form of Jeff Goldbloom and maybe
- 1:16:57Speaker 1: You're Queen Michelle.
- 1:16:58Speaker 2: Yo, yeah, sell you. I'm fine with it. I see
- 1:17:03Speaker 2: where people could be like, why was she in this role?
- 1:17:06Speaker 2: M h. I love her, but I also like I
- 1:17:11Speaker 2: like it okay, but she's very That's like the way
- 1:17:14Speaker 2: that she acts is like that, do you know what
- 1:17:16Speaker 2: I mean? I don't know, but I but she is
- 1:17:18Speaker 2: still like when she does like her remarkable, like that's
- 1:17:23Speaker 2: a good. That was good. There are times when she
- 1:17:25Speaker 2: needs to be like more evil, and I think they
- 1:17:26Speaker 2: kind of were like just be normal.
- 1:17:28Speaker 1: Yeah, maybe she ramps it up for part two. I
- 1:17:31Speaker 1: think she does, because Belinda does start to let's.
- 1:17:35Speaker 2: Say they like spar they like Spart.
- 1:17:37Speaker 1: She begins to regret her life, and.
- 1:17:40Speaker 2: I think, yeah, I don't know, she is I feel
- 1:17:43Speaker 2: like the weak link of all of them, but she's
- 1:17:45Speaker 2: still I don't know. That part is so such a
- 1:17:49Speaker 2: nothing part, you know what I mean? It's like a therefore,
- 1:17:52Speaker 2: like a plot device more than like a real character.
- 1:17:55Speaker 1: As you know, I think Jeff Goldbloom is daddy and
- 1:17:59Speaker 1: and a lot of our friends have told me that
- 1:18:01Speaker 1: I'm wrong and he's creepy. He's daddy. I believe that
- 1:18:05Speaker 1: Jeff Goldbloom is what we all base sexuality around.
- 1:18:08Speaker 2: He also like did great in this. He has no
- 1:18:11Speaker 2: he barely has a he was Jeff Goldbloom as the Wizard,
- 1:18:14Speaker 2: but like I'd rather that than like something who else
- 1:18:16Speaker 2: would do it.
- 1:18:17Speaker 1: I love him. I want that big stone bust of
- 1:18:20Speaker 1: his head. Do you think that that?
- 1:18:22Speaker 2: Yeah? Yeah, And then he had like tap shoes on
- 1:18:24Speaker 2: for no reason, Like that was so fun, Like I
- 1:18:26Speaker 2: just found it fun. And he's like a weirdo.
- 1:18:30Speaker 1: Yes, I love that even so again Nuance and Layers,
- 1:18:33Speaker 1: it's like, well is the Wizard even that evil of
- 1:18:36Speaker 1: a guy Ris, He's just like a guy that crashed
- 1:18:39Speaker 1: and made up a story. He's like he's just like
- 1:18:41Speaker 1: like Goof, Who's like, He's like, you're you're weird uncle
- 1:18:45Speaker 1: at Christmas, Who's like.
- 1:18:46Speaker 2: Yeah, he's not, Like he's not like fair. He mean
- 1:18:49Speaker 2: he is, but he's not this like evil no, like
- 1:18:53Speaker 2: I'm maniacal and like I want to be a dictator.
- 1:18:55Speaker 2: I mean he does, but it's like in the way
- 1:18:58Speaker 2: that's like because he's like oh I could do this, Like, Okay,
- 1:19:01Speaker 2: I'm like mediocre and a loser. I'm not even like
- 1:19:03Speaker 2: really that smart, so I'm just gonna like do it.
- 1:19:05Speaker 1: Yeah, him and him and Bach the King of the
- 1:19:08Speaker 1: in cells so yeah, and no, I loved that part
- 1:19:13Speaker 1: and I think that I like got more tickled the
- 1:19:16Speaker 1: second viewing of him just being like, come play in
- 1:19:18Speaker 1: my train set.
- 1:19:20Speaker 2: Yeah, like and we're like, oh, this man's a.
- 1:19:21Speaker 1: Loser and like uncle Jeff and he.
- 1:19:24Speaker 2: Says like and he's like, I spent a lot of
- 1:19:26Speaker 2: time a long Like remember when he says that I.
- 1:19:28Speaker 1: Did whisper to myself when he went huh, what's that?
- 1:19:31Speaker 1: And I went, oh, no, a close batchick. Yeah, I
- 1:19:36Speaker 1: was like not a magician, no, but no, I love
- 1:19:40Speaker 1: him in it. I thought Jonathan Bailey also did a
- 1:19:43Speaker 1: really good job. And apparently he owns that horse, so
- 1:19:45Speaker 1: that's hot. Yeah, he owns that horse like ding dong, yeah,
- 1:19:50Speaker 1: ding dong. Also I heard that he did all of
- 1:19:53Speaker 1: his own dancing when.
- 1:19:55Speaker 2: They all did their own stunts. That's the other part
- 1:19:57Speaker 2: of this is like even the the Ess Rose, the
- 1:20:00Speaker 2: girl playing Neessa Rose, when they were like, Okay, we're
- 1:20:02Speaker 2: gonna like hoist you up in the air like ninety
- 1:20:04Speaker 2: million feet like, and she's like, I'm doing it. And
- 1:20:07Speaker 2: then like even Arian and you said they caught each
- 1:20:09Speaker 2: other and they're like, well, you're doing your own sons, right,
- 1:20:11Speaker 2: And she's like yes, and she's like me too, and
- 1:20:12Speaker 2: I'm like, okay, dumb, Like that matters. That matters when
- 1:20:17Speaker 2: when Tom Cruise where Shelley hangs onto the side of
- 1:20:22Speaker 2: a plane, we all fucking give him like ninety million awards, okay.
- 1:20:25Speaker 1: We do, and he doesn't even do me the good
- 1:20:28Speaker 1: graces of falling off said fucking playing. Yeah, because hanes on.
- 1:20:34Speaker 1: But yeah, I found Jonathan Bailey delightful. And you know
- 1:20:37Speaker 1: I'm a Bridgerton hater. You know that I watch it.
- 1:20:41Speaker 2: I didn't know that.
- 1:20:42Speaker 1: Actually I watch every season of Bridgerton just so I
- 1:20:45Speaker 1: can tell people how unsexy.
- 1:20:46Speaker 2: How much you hate it.
- 1:20:47Speaker 1: Yeah, because the sexiest thing that they ever pull off
- 1:20:51Speaker 1: on Bridgerton is ooh he goes down on women. And
- 1:20:54Speaker 1: I'm like, bigger bar. Yeah, I do find him very
- 1:21:01Speaker 1: I love a man who isn't afraid of touching other
- 1:21:04Speaker 1: men on screen, like the way that he interacts when
- 1:21:07Speaker 1: he spins that old lady librarian to be.
- 1:21:09Speaker 2: Like incredible, I'm sexy and incredible, Like it was so good.
- 1:21:14Speaker 2: And again that joke has happened ninety million times. Yes,
- 1:21:19Speaker 2: the joke of like an old lady is like horny
- 1:21:22Speaker 2: for like a young hot guy like that is it's
- 1:21:25Speaker 2: the oldest trick in the book. Do you know what
- 1:21:27Speaker 2: I'm saying? Like, and yet we loved it.
- 1:21:32Speaker 1: I loved it. I loved every moment of this movie.
- 1:21:35Speaker 1: When people give me like, okay, the lighting. I did
- 1:21:38Speaker 1: notice the lighting. I noticed that it washed out some
- 1:21:42Speaker 1: people and I didn't.
- 1:21:43Speaker 2: It just was a very natural light for like what
- 1:21:45Speaker 2: I assumed it'd be, like a fantastical situation.
- 1:21:47Speaker 1: I was like, you could have just clicked I was
- 1:21:50Speaker 1: like thinking about my iPhone and I was like, if
- 1:21:52Speaker 1: you had just clicked that window, it would have shown
- 1:21:54Speaker 1: me Ariana's face because it would have just the lighting to.
- 1:21:58Speaker 2: Not but like that. Yeah, but like like we all
- 1:22:01Speaker 2: say this, but like remember like that was they intentionally
- 1:22:03Speaker 2: shot it this way?
- 1:22:04Speaker 1: Like who am I to tell John two what to do?
- 1:22:09Speaker 1: Who am I? They didn't pay me to do it?
- 1:22:11Speaker 2: No, And you know what, other people like you watch
- 1:22:15Speaker 2: they will win cinematography. Oh, they should camerawork in that
- 1:22:19Speaker 2: movie where it was incredible compared to compared to I
- 1:22:26Speaker 2: watched Conclave Getting Ready to be blown Away. When I
- 1:22:29Speaker 2: tell you the chem work on the movie was the
- 1:22:31Speaker 2: most predictable, boring shit I've ever seen in my life.
- 1:22:33Speaker 1: When I tell you that, I can't even type in
- 1:22:35Speaker 1: CEO and to try and pretend like I'm gonna watch
- 1:22:38Speaker 1: Conclave and think of all think of all those like
- 1:22:41Speaker 1: barely straight men that I love that are in Conclave.
- 1:22:44Speaker 2: Ye, no, like yeah, it's like right up for you. Yeah,
- 1:22:47Speaker 2: it's up your alley.
- 1:22:48Speaker 1: Find yeah, ray Fines. But then they all decided that
- 1:22:51Speaker 1: they wanted to be pope, and I'm like, I'm out.
- 1:22:53Speaker 1: I don't, like, I don't want to watch you battle
- 1:22:55Speaker 1: to be pope.
- 1:22:56Speaker 2: It's it's and it's like not even that I wish
- 1:22:59Speaker 2: that's what It's like so weird, I don't know. It
- 1:23:01Speaker 2: was like not my jam, but like there was one
- 1:23:05Speaker 2: scene where like John Lithgow is being like confronted by
- 1:23:08Speaker 2: Ray Fines and it's a long it's like a scene
- 1:23:11Speaker 2: that's like very intense. Yeah, compared to the rest of
- 1:23:15Speaker 2: the movie where he's like, I know you did this
- 1:23:17Speaker 2: and blah blah, and it's like shit goes down and
- 1:23:20Speaker 2: it's like a long track down the hallway to see
- 1:23:24Speaker 2: them fighting, and I'm like, what is this two thousand
- 1:23:29Speaker 2: and seven, like get me out of here?
- 1:23:32Speaker 1: Two thousand and eight, two thousand late, like.
- 1:23:37Speaker 2: The exact opposite choice to make in this scene that's
- 1:23:40Speaker 2: like a very integral scene for the movie where that
- 1:23:42Speaker 2: like drives the entire story forward.
- 1:23:44Speaker 1: Yeah, they should win. Oh, they should win so many
- 1:23:47Speaker 1: fucking Oscars for this movie, because, let me tell you,
- 1:23:50Speaker 1: I'm so tired of Star Wars winning like sound mixing
- 1:23:54Speaker 1: and like special effects.
- 1:23:55Speaker 2: Oh, they'll win every one of these. And if one
- 1:23:57Speaker 2: of the technical awards they're gonna win. There's no way.
- 1:24:00Speaker 1: What was a good movie that was technical this year?
- 1:24:04Speaker 1: You can't name one A Dune movie a Dune give
- 1:24:07Speaker 1: me a break. I can't watch the Dune movies either.
- 1:24:10Speaker 2: The second one was good. The second one was better
- 1:24:12Speaker 2: the first one.
- 1:24:15Speaker 1: I guess we should wrap up.
- 1:24:17Speaker 2: What have we been doing this for two hours? Yeah?
- 1:24:19Speaker 2: What do we even say?
- 1:24:21Speaker 1: We played a trip? We No?
- 1:24:24Speaker 2: I feel like I drove home my thesis of like
- 1:24:27Speaker 2: well done, well done versions of things I love and
- 1:24:30Speaker 2: I think.
- 1:24:31Speaker 1: It's true that, like when women do things really well,
- 1:24:34Speaker 1: all of a sudden, even other women are like, I
- 1:24:37Speaker 1: don't get it, Like what just be happy to women
- 1:24:40Speaker 1: are on the movie like we had that argument with
- 1:24:43Speaker 1: but also a movie too.
- 1:24:45Speaker 2: What's there not to get? But I will say this
- 1:24:47Speaker 2: is so different because it's like, what's not to get
- 1:24:49Speaker 2: about this? Like it's a movie version of this musical
- 1:24:52Speaker 2: that has been on Broadway for my entire adult life? Right,
- 1:24:55Speaker 2: there's really just google it and you can find out.
- 1:24:57Speaker 2: Like the Bar movie, we had no idea what that
- 1:24:59Speaker 2: was going to be, Like we knew what this movie
- 1:25:01Speaker 2: was going to be.
- 1:25:02Speaker 1: Also, I don't understand why you would sit through a
- 1:25:06Speaker 1: two and a half hour movie for a musical that
- 1:25:08Speaker 1: you didn't see when you were fifteen? Yeah, why are
- 1:25:12Speaker 1: you going?
- 1:25:14Speaker 2: No? I agree with you, that's why, or at least
- 1:25:16Speaker 2: been like, let me read the Wikipedia page of what
- 1:25:18Speaker 2: the musical is, so I like, know, what.
- 1:25:20Speaker 1: Listen to a soundtrack? What do you think our lesson is?
- 1:25:24Speaker 1: From the Wicked movie and everything surrounding it? What do
- 1:25:27Speaker 1: you think our life lesson is?
- 1:25:30Speaker 2: I think that our life lesson is that don't be
- 1:25:33Speaker 2: embarrassed about.
- 1:25:34Speaker 1: Your talent and I would add on as my life
- 1:25:38Speaker 1: lesson is it's okay to live joyfully, Like it's okay
- 1:25:43Speaker 1: to be excited about this.
- 1:25:45Speaker 2: You're allowed to like enjoy your life.
- 1:25:47Speaker 1: Yeah, and Wicked was your jump start for it's like, hey,
- 1:25:52Speaker 1: it's cool again to be a geek over stuff. But
- 1:25:56Speaker 1: as you know, I went full off the edge for
- 1:25:59Speaker 1: that fucking ariostour. H and like that was my moment
- 1:26:04Speaker 1: of like, oh my god, we can enjoy things again.
- 1:26:07Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, like I don't have to be like a
- 1:26:09Speaker 2: too cool for school person.
- 1:26:10Speaker 1: It's like, and it's been so much better. So yeah.
- 1:26:14Speaker 1: I also yeah, and I think another lesson of the
- 1:26:18Speaker 1: Wicked movie is you can always come back from your
- 1:26:25Speaker 1: shitty Nicol Nickelodeon built reputation like get correct correct, Like
- 1:26:32Speaker 1: I am officially saying that we were walking forward with
- 1:26:35Speaker 1: grace now when it comes to Ariana Grande.
- 1:26:38Speaker 2: Yeah, and she was getting wrecked earlier.
- 1:26:40Speaker 1: She was getting wrecked and we're over it. Chris fixed her.
- 1:26:45Speaker 2: No, but I think it really I think the biggest
- 1:26:47Speaker 2: lesson is like we're back to basics, baby, and that's
- 1:26:50Speaker 2: like there's a power in that. That's how I feel,
- 1:26:52Speaker 2: and I feel like it's a time where like talent
- 1:26:55Speaker 2: will rise to the top. Yes, which as it should be.
- 1:27:00Speaker 1: Well and as two very fucking talented people on this call,
- 1:27:04Speaker 1: may I say, it's about damn time. I would love
- 1:27:08Speaker 1: for Chris and I to be getting our flowers instead
- 1:27:11Speaker 1: of these morons, these micro influencers on all the red carpets,
- 1:27:16Speaker 1: asking asking Hugh Grant of all people, dumb questions.
- 1:27:20Speaker 2: Oh my god, never forget you?
- 1:27:21Speaker 1: Do you love plaid or stripes? And He's like, fuck you,
- 1:27:24Speaker 1: And then you guys want to be bad at Hugh Grant.
- 1:27:26Speaker 1: I'm mad at that teenager for even approaching Hugh Grant.
- 1:27:32Speaker 1: Never forget. So, yeah, it's about goddamn time that talent
- 1:27:36Speaker 1: get us somewhere. I would like to manifest that Wicked
- 1:27:42Speaker 1: inspires people to hire special effects, makeup and costuming people
- 1:27:46Speaker 1: and do practical sets again.
- 1:27:49Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, agree, agree. I'm sick of the like full,
- 1:27:53Speaker 2: I'm sick of the marvel, the marvel.
- 1:27:55Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm sick of everyone just showing up and putting
- 1:27:57Speaker 1: on a computer on their body. It doesn't fun for
- 1:28:00Speaker 1: the actors either. Could you imagine going to work every
- 1:28:04Speaker 1: day and putting on a green condom all over your
- 1:28:07Speaker 1: body with little ping pond balls and then them being
- 1:28:10Speaker 1: all like Nabi today, you're Golinda the Good Am.
- 1:28:13Speaker 2: I yeah, no, no, I'm not like.
- 1:28:18Speaker 1: Give me a pink fucking prom dress. I'm Glinda the
- 1:28:22Speaker 1: Good Yeah. What would your manifestation like to be? Because
- 1:28:25Speaker 1: I've been on that for a while, the like we
- 1:28:27Speaker 1: need to go back to practical effects.
- 1:28:30Speaker 2: No, I agree with you. I mean that's why I
- 1:28:32Speaker 2: hated the Hobbit movies because they were just all green
- 1:28:34Speaker 2: screen and like whereas like Lord of the ringsey Og
- 1:28:37Speaker 2: is like so beautiful beauty, It's like so beautiful. I
- 1:28:41Speaker 2: think that I would I'm manifesting that, like I'm the
- 1:28:46Speaker 2: talent is rising to the top. I know I just
- 1:28:48Speaker 2: said it already, but like where it's like this person
- 1:28:50Speaker 2: that's like has a really good voice is like super
- 1:28:51Speaker 2: rewarded for that, or like someone who's like putting in
- 1:28:54Speaker 2: the work and like really showing up versus like be
- 1:28:57Speaker 2: you know who I got left in the fucking dust
- 1:28:59Speaker 2: Renee Rapp. We can't go into it. But like someone
- 1:29:04Speaker 2: who was like I'm great, like blah blah blah this
- 1:29:06Speaker 2: and that, like remember her press Star, She's like old
- 1:29:08Speaker 2: people that are older than me, are like I don't
- 1:29:10Speaker 2: even know who they are or like whatever. Yeah, and
- 1:29:12Speaker 2: I was like and everyone was like, no, we're actually fine.
- 1:29:15Speaker 2: And she like had talent but tried to be a
- 1:29:17Speaker 2: cool girl and like she was rejected love Like I
- 1:29:20Speaker 2: like that. I would rather like nine thousand Rachel Berrys
- 1:29:24Speaker 2: be like not Lea Michelle, but like Rachel Berry's like
- 1:29:27Speaker 2: become real actors and like take it so seriously than yeah,
- 1:29:31Speaker 2: like a bunch of Renee raps, like yeah, cool girls
- 1:29:34Speaker 2: and like be mean.
- 1:29:35Speaker 1: I think you and I are people who enjoy art,
- 1:29:37Speaker 1: and therefore, when we're watching a movie, I want to
- 1:29:40Speaker 1: see the craft behind that movie and behind the character.
- 1:29:44Speaker 2: Correct.
- 1:29:45Speaker 1: Well, Chris, I'm so glad that we got to do
- 1:29:48Speaker 1: this for eighteen hours.
- 1:29:50Speaker 2: For two hours, for two full hours.
- 1:29:52Speaker 1: Yeah, for two full hours, and then you're gonna sign
- 1:29:54Speaker 1: up to do it again for two full hours for
- 1:29:56Speaker 1: it ends with us.
- 1:29:58Speaker 2: Oh, I'm I can't wait.
- 1:29:59Speaker 1: I got my notea ready, and you have to come
- 1:30:02Speaker 1: back for part two and all the sad things happen
- 1:30:07Speaker 1: in the Wicked play. But make sure everyone knows where
- 1:30:09Speaker 1: to find fixing famous people in you and all the
- 1:30:14Speaker 1: times you're going to be at Dominic's show, so.
- 1:30:18Speaker 2: You can find me at the Christa Rosa. You can
- 1:30:21Speaker 2: find the show at Fixing Famous People. Obviously you can
- 1:30:24Speaker 2: findinally on multiple episodes. Dominic is doing his lie, his
- 1:30:28Speaker 2: end of the year the dom We now are gay
- 1:30:30Speaker 2: apparel show, so you can find me there. You can
- 1:30:34Speaker 2: find show. You can find tickets at domitary dot com.
- 1:30:38Speaker 2: And yeah, our patreon is pop and Pop and we
- 1:30:40Speaker 2: need to have you on for Ullienne Rhymes. Maybe that's
- 1:30:42Speaker 2: a good Maybe that's a good bonus episode.
- 1:30:44Speaker 1: That we do any anything to be on a call
- 1:30:48Speaker 1: with you and dom And now I'm plying out to
- 1:30:50Speaker 1: see Gypsy.
- 1:30:50Speaker 2: I'll tell you, and you'll be yeah, yeah.
- 1:30:52Speaker 1: That I'm coming for Gypsy and you.
- 1:30:56Speaker 2: And us Okay, I love you, I love me to uh.
- 1:31:01Speaker 1: And remember, tolerators, you don't have to smile through anything
- 1:31:03Speaker 1: you're tolerating, including wanting to see the biggest movie of
- 1:31:07Speaker 1: the decade every week until they rip it from your
- 1:31:10Speaker 1: cold dead hands and having people tell you that it
- 1:31:13Speaker 1: was overproduced, that the lighting was bad, and that Ariano
- 1:31:17Speaker 1: Grande should die for all of her sins. Smiles are
- 1:31:21Speaker 1: so joy over.
- 1:31:23Speaker 2: People are bold to say overproduced when there's the ship
- 1:31:26Speaker 2: that we've had to sit through, people say are like
