- 0:00Hi, this is Lucia with The Art of Love.
- 0:02I'm a dating and relationship expert specializing helping you
- 0:05get your ex back or to get over your ex.
- 0:08This week I want to talk about why is my ex taking so long to
- 0:13come back. In the words of the famous
- 0:17figure skater Nancy Kerrigan, Why?
- 0:22Why are they moving in a snail's face?
- 0:26Let's define what long means. Because when you're in no
- 0:31contact, one day can feel like a week.
- 0:34Two weeks is not a long time in the world of no contact. 30 days
- 0:39is not a long time in the world of no contact, and in fact, even
- 0:4345 days is not a long time. Keep in mind that right now
- 0:47you're literally like a drug addict going through withdrawal.
- 0:51And in fact, the brains of people going through a breakup
- 0:55have been shown to look similar to the brains of people
- 0:58withdrawing from cocaine. I understand you want your hit
- 1:03and you want it now, so let's find out why it's taking so long
- 1:07for you to get your hit. But first, I want to welcome
- 1:11back my beautiful no contact army.
- 1:13Thank you so much to everyone who has downloaded my app
- 1:16Silencio to help you stay in no contact.
- 1:19And if you haven't, the link is below every single video and
- 1:22podcast. And if you too would like to
- 1:26join our no contact army, all you have to do is hit the
- 1:30subscribe button and the bell notification and you're in.
- 1:35And to read our manual, go to nocontactsecrets.com where you
- 1:39can read two free chapters before you purchase the book.
- 1:42OK, so before I start, I just want you to keep one thing in
- 1:45mind, and that is that in many cases this is also difficult for
- 1:49them. They may not have wanted the
- 1:52breakup, but felt like they had no choice.
- 1:54So if it seems like a long time, they're probably not doing it on
- 1:58purpose. And one of the reasons why you
- 2:01want to know why things are taking so long is because
- 2:05there's an open loop. And as I talked about in my
- 2:07video titled 7 Reasons Why No contact Works on Everyone, the
- 2:12brain does not like an open loop.
- 2:15What's an open loop? Something that's incomplete.
- 2:18Here's an example, actually, of something that happened to me
- 2:20yesterday. The car in front of me on the
- 2:22freeway had their right turn signal on, but they weren't
- 2:27changing lanes and it was bugging.
- 2:30Well, not me, but my brain, because there's no reason
- 2:33logically why it should be bugging me.
- 2:35But it was an open loop because it was an action that wasn't
- 2:39completed. It was a mystery as to whether
- 2:42he was going to be changing lanes or whether he had the
- 2:45signal on by mistake. So the brain is literally like,
- 2:49pick a lane, right? Like, pick a lane, stay where
- 2:53you are or turn right, but do something with that signal.
- 2:56Turn it off, you know. That's why people ask for a
- 3:00closure. What are they trying to close?
- 3:03They're trying to close an open loop.
- 3:05So same with your ex and hearing from them.
- 3:09When you see that they're posting cryptic quotes or
- 3:12they're sending you bread crumbs, it's like a turn signal
- 3:16and you think they're going to make a move, but they don't.
- 3:19And you're like, pick a lane, right?
- 3:21Either come back or leave me alone.
- 3:25But keep in mind that just as they are a mystery to you
- 3:29because you wonder if and when they're going to reach out, you
- 3:33are also a mystery to them because they most likely thought
- 3:35you were going to reach out to them and they're also wondering
- 3:39if and when you're going to reach out.
- 3:40So this is like a game of chicken.
- 3:42Who is going to break first? I know that you're not going to
- 3:47break if you joined my no contact army.
- 3:50Remember our slogan? We don't react.
- 3:53We do no contact. OK, so the first reason why your
- 3:58ex may be taking so long to contact you is because you made
- 4:04the breakup difficult, and that's because you refused to
- 4:09let go. So they're afraid that if they
- 4:11reach out to you and then they realize that, oops, maybe I
- 4:15don't want to get back together, now they have to deal with you
- 4:18again, making it difficult for them to go away a second time.
- 4:21So you got to let people do what they what they're going to do.
- 4:24That's the mindset you need to have in your friendships and
- 4:28your relationships, and your life will be a lot easier.
- 4:32So if this was you, then it's extra important that you stay in
- 4:35no contact and do not respond to bread crumbs.
- 4:40The second reason is that you're in different stages, so they
- 4:45knew about this breakup before you did, often many weeks or
- 4:49months before. So while you are grieving the
- 4:51loss, they may be in the relief stage and they're experiencing
- 4:56what is known as separation elation.
- 5:00They may have been experiencing anxiety before they finally
- 5:03pulled the trigger, so to speak, but now that they did, they're
- 5:07relieved and they're looking forward to what's ahead.
- 5:11But as time goes by, things often flip, and there's a quote
- 5:15that says dump her, laugh now, cry later, dumpy, cry now, laugh
- 5:21later. So though you may be crying now,
- 5:24it's very possible that your ex will be crying later, but you're
- 5:30going to have to wait for them to get to that stage.
- 5:32And no, I don't know how long it's going to take.
- 5:35Every breakup has different variables.
- 5:38So first, they have to experience life without you in
- 5:41order to realize that it was better with you in their life.
- 5:45And even when they start to think that they have to decide
- 5:48when to reach out, what to say, whether to text, whether to
- 5:52call, et cetera, et cetera, it's rarely a spur of the moment
- 5:56decision, OK. The third reason why it's taking
- 6:00them so long to get back to you is because it probably took them
- 6:04a while to decide that they wanted to break up with you.
- 6:07So it's going to take a while for them to decide that they
- 6:10want you back in their life. No one's breaking up with you on
- 6:13Monday and getting back with you on Friday, though.
- 6:16That's what everyone wants. Who's been broken up with?
- 6:19They want to be solved quickly, like a mystery movie of the week
- 6:22where it's all wrapped up in a nice package in a short amount
- 6:25of time. That rarely happens.
- 6:27Getting an X pack usually takes months, and that's good news for
- 6:31you actually, because it gives you time to work on yourself
- 6:34because I'm assuming if they broke up with you, it's not
- 6:37because you were perfect. Ha ha.
- 6:41And Speaking of time, time is actually on your side and I've
- 6:44done a video on that which I'll put the link in the upper right
- 6:46hand corner onto YouTube. The more time that passes, the
- 6:49more time you'll have to step away from the situation and see
- 6:52things more clearly. So you'll have time to
- 6:54understand where you may have gone wrong and the relationship
- 6:58that led to the breakup and what you can do better next time.
- 7:01If you do get a chance, all right, the next reason why they
- 7:07are taking so long is they want to make sure that they really do
- 7:11want to get back together and they're not just missing you.
- 7:14Once people make a decision, very often they hate to change
- 7:18it, except for those individuals who are constantly changing
- 7:21their minds and driving everyone crazy.
- 7:23But for the rest of us, we like to think that we've taken our
- 7:26time and made a great decision. And when we start to have second
- 7:30thoughts, we don't want to rush and do anything that we're going
- 7:33to regret. So again, it's about time they
- 7:36want to take their time. Doesn't mean they're going to
- 7:39forget about you. Doesn't mean they didn't love
- 7:41you. Doesn't mean they don't miss
- 7:44you. Doesn't mean they're not
- 7:46stalking your social media, even if it looks like they're not.
- 7:50And by the way, if you are finding this video helpful,
- 7:54please be sure to give this a like in order to help the
- 7:57YouTube algorithm. Suggest this to other people so
- 8:00that they too can understand why their ex is taking so long to
- 8:04contact them. OK, the next reason is that they
- 8:09think you're mad at them and you're and you're going to
- 8:11reject them. So they're concerned that you
- 8:13won't take their call or respond to their text, and if you do, it
- 8:17will be to tell them off. However, that is not an excuse
- 8:21to break no contact and reach out to make them come back.
- 8:26You just make it easy on them because otherwise you're going
- 8:28to set up a very bad dynamic where they know that if they
- 8:33break up with you, you'll reach out to them and they can come
- 8:36back anytime. And in fact, I was speaking with
- 8:38someone recently who was going through their third breakup with
- 8:42the same person. That's because they let their ex
- 8:45come back incorrectly the first two times, so their ex had no
- 8:49problem breaking up with them. Again.
- 8:51People rarely do something once, and to make sure that does that
- 8:55does not happen to you, check out my video titled 6 questions
- 8:59to ask your ex if they want you back and I'll put that in the
- 9:02upper right hand corner. The next reason is because they
- 9:06have an avoidant attachment style, especially if there are
- 9:09dismissive avoidant. The avoidance tend to come back
- 9:13last, like after everyone else. The ones with the actions of the
- 9:18transfer style, they come back sooner, secure next, and then
- 9:22the avoidance a distant third. I mean why?
- 9:25Because it's in the name avoidant they're trying to
- 9:28avoid. So don't be surprised.
- 9:31And if you're wondering if your ex is was an avoidant, then I
- 9:37suggest you, you know Google traits of an avoidant attachment
- 9:41style. Don't assume that just because
- 9:43you know they didn't want a commitment or they didn't seem
- 9:45that interested that they were an avoidant.
- 9:48That's not what it means. So look at the traits and see
- 9:50how many your ex has. All right, so we have a few more
- 9:55reasons why it's taking so long and you're not going to want to
- 10:01hear this, but it's because they're in a rebound
- 10:04relationship. So obviously it's going to take
- 10:06longer than it normally would if there was no third party
- 10:09involved. But as I've said before, most
- 10:12rebound relationships do not work out, so don't worry.
- 10:16Check out my video on rebounds to find out how to handle it
- 10:20when you're exit dating someone else.
- 10:22And yes, I'll put the link in the upper right hand corner.
- 10:26So don't worry about a rebound, because what are the chances
- 10:29that the person that they meet right after the breakup with you
- 10:33is the person they're going to stay with forever?
- 10:36I would say not very high. So there's only two outcomes.
- 10:39They're either going to get married or at some point they're
- 10:43going to break up, OK? And more likely than not,
- 10:46they're going to break up. But right now they think they
- 10:49can do better. They have the grass's greener
- 10:52syndrome and you have to wait for them to find out that
- 10:56actually, you know what, the grass is not greener.
- 10:59And it looks like they may not be able to do better than you.
- 11:02And that's when they start to rethink their decision.
- 11:04And then the last one, it's actually a combination of
- 11:08several things that I've discussed and that has to do
- 11:10with ego and pride. So people's ego and pride, you
- 11:15know, once they've made a decision, as I've said before,
- 11:18makes them not want to change their minds.
- 11:22But if you stay in no contact and if they feel enough anxiety
- 11:27and if it looks like you're moving on and they have a high
- 11:30interest level, if their interest level goes up, then at
- 11:34some point they're just going to have, they're going to have to
- 11:36put their ego and pride to the side, otherwise they're going to
- 11:39regret it. Some people, they are going to
- 11:41like ego, ego, and pride get it in the way, unfortunately.
- 11:44But most people they are going to reach out.
- 11:48OK, so a quick recap. #1 you made the breakup difficult, #2
- 11:56you're at different stages, #3 it takes time for them to
- 12:00realize they made a mistake. #4 they want to make sure that they
- 12:05really do want to get back together and they're not just
- 12:07missing you. #5, they think you're mad at them and will
- 12:10reject them, and #6 they're an avoidant. #7 they are in a
- 12:17rebound. #8, ego and pride. So just before I end, I actually
- 12:24have a success story of someone who stayed in no contact, OK?
- 12:30And he says I went total. No contact right away.
- 12:33No Instagram, no story views, no calls, no texts avoided.
- 12:38Any place I might see her. We didn't talk to anyone.
- 12:40We both knew about her. Said nothing.
- 12:43Silent like I disappeared off the earth.
- 12:45Yes, I say you have to be like someone who's in witness
- 12:49protection and just disappear. After 40 days and 40 nights, she
- 12:56showed up at my doorstep in tears, sobbing, saying she made
- 12:59a mistake. Isn't that what we all want?
- 13:03Don't we all want someone who breaks up with us to show up at
- 13:06our door crying? I haven't had a guy show up at
- 13:09my door crying, but I once had a guy.
- 13:12After two weeks, he climbed the tree next to my balcony, walked
- 13:17onto my balcony and into my living room.
- 13:19It was a very weird sensation to have someone standing in my
- 13:22living room who did not walk in the front door.
- 13:25And no, we did not get back together.
- 13:27Continuing on, he says. She said she wanted to meet all
- 13:31of my needs and a few weeks later she moved in.
- 13:34Our relationship is awesome. And now she knows I have the
- 13:38ability to walk away and stay away.
- 13:40Absolutely. Being in no contact sucked was
- 13:43hard, but I had to show her that I will not break and be weak.
- 13:47That's right, exactly. Congratulations.
- 13:51Good for you. So now I want to hear from you.
- 13:57Do you know of any other reasons that I haven't mentioned why an
- 14:00X would take so long to reach out?
