- 0:23Constance Lavonice: Exciting?
- 0:25Constance Lavonice: Well, the Bible offers a unique way of refreshing and revitalizing ourselves, and is found in Proverbs 11, verse 25.
- 0:40Constance Lavonice: You're listening to Whole Heart Conversations, a podcast for women that provides biblical encouragement to foster whole heart, spirit, soul, and body resilience.
- 0:56Constance Lavonice: I'm your host, Constance Lavonice.
- 1:01Constance Lavonice: According to Proverbs 1125, those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed.
- 1:11Constance Lavonice: Let's break that down.
- 1:13Constance Lavonice: The New International Version states it this way a generous person will prosper.
- 1:21Constance Lavonice: Whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.
- 1:27Constance Lavonice: Refresh others, refresh ourselves.
- 1:32Constance Lavonice: When we help others, we help ourselves.
- 1:36Constance Lavonice: This is a spiritual law, the law of sowing and reaping.
- 1:44Constance Lavonice: We reap what we sow later than we sow and more than we sow.
- 1:51Constance Lavonice: And because God has been generous to us through Jesus' sacrificial death, His grace, and His mercy, and the gift of the Holy Spirit, we can be generous to others.
- 2:13Constance Lavonice: Galatians 6 9 exhorts, let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we don't give up.
- 2:28Constance Lavonice: We always reap what we sow in some form or another.
- 2:37Constance Lavonice: The second consideration for refreshing others is that helping others or acts of service has been shown to boost our own mental health.
- 2:54Constance Lavonice: It provides a sense of purpose and meaning.
- 3:00Constance Lavonice: It brings out the gifts and fruit of the spirit God has given us and provides an opportunity for us to express those gifts and the fruit of the Spirit, such as love and joy to others.
- 3:22Constance Lavonice: And it's also exciting that helping others releases feel-good hormones and neurotransmitters like dopamine and serotonin, which boost our mood and provides us with a sense of well-being.
- 3:43Constance Lavonice: Thirdly, it pleases God.
- 3:49Constance Lavonice: It draws the presence of God.
- 3:54Constance Lavonice: When our ways please God, He's going to show up and in the process meet us at our point of need.
- 4:08Constance Lavonice: So now let's talk about some practical ways to refresh others.
- 4:17Constance Lavonice: The first is to call or text someone, encourage someone by writing a note, a card, or a letter.
- 4:34Constance Lavonice: And I know that this sounds old-fashioned, but my granddaughter loves to receive a handwritten card.
- 4:43Constance Lavonice: So try it.
- 4:46Constance Lavonice: You may be surprised at how someone will receive an old-fashioned handwritten note.
- 4:56Constance Lavonice: Additionally, we can perform a specific deed or a kind act, such as cooking if you know how to cook well, or you can bake a dessert if you know how to bake well.
- 5:17Constance Lavonice: You can offer a ride to someone who may not have a car.
- 5:22Constance Lavonice: We can pray for others and pray with others, or we can just acknowledge, affirm, and speak a kind word to someone else.
- 5:39Constance Lavonice: Give a sincere compliment.
- 5:42Constance Lavonice: Call someone by their name.
- 5:46Constance Lavonice: Learn their name if you don't know it.
- 5:49Constance Lavonice: Have a conversation.
- 5:51Constance Lavonice: Listen without interrupting.
- 5:56Constance Lavonice: There's so many ways that we can encourage or refresh someone.
- 6:03Constance Lavonice: So this week I want you to think of someone you can encourage or provide an act of kindness to and make it your intention to follow through.
- 6:18Constance Lavonice: Because when you refresh others, you will be refreshed.
- 6:25Constance Lavonice: And a generous person will prosper in God's kingdom.
- 6:34Constance Lavonice: So I want to thank you for listening.
- 6:38Constance Lavonice: Please subscribe, share, and text the show and let me know what's on your heart.
