- 0:32SPEAKER_01: This is a space for honest conversations, expert advice, and stories from women just like you.
- 0:39SPEAKER_01: Okay, let's go.
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: I'm Kim Nicholson, and I'm thrilled to have you here.
- 0:58SPEAKER_00: If you're tuning in today, you are part of a revolution, a movement to redefine how we see ourselves and how we embrace the changes in our bodies, and how we can reclaim what it means to feel strong, empowered, and yes, sexy during menopause and beyond.
- 1:17SPEAKER_00: So let's talk about this title.
- 1:23SPEAKER_00: It's bold, isn't it?
- 1:25SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 1:26SPEAKER_00: It's the kind of title that turns heads, raises eyebrows, and of course sparks conversations.
- 1:32SPEAKER_00: But when I told my husband about it, he hesitated and he said, Are you sure about that title?
- 1:39SPEAKER_00: And I smiled and said, Absolutely, because this isn't just about me.
- 1:46SPEAKER_00: And it's not just about the words.
- 1:48SPEAKER_00: It's about every single woman over 45 who's felt invisible, overlooked, or diminished in a world obsessed with youth.
- 1:58SPEAKER_00: It's about us.
- 2:01SPEAKER_00: So let's break down the title.
- 2:04SPEAKER_00: It's a fun title, but of course, say it out loud.
- 2:06SPEAKER_00: It feels good too to say it.
- 2:08SPEAKER_00: So let's just start with the word my.
- 2:11SPEAKER_00: When I say my sexy menopause body, I don't just mean my body, I mean yours, hers, and every woman's body.
- 2:20SPEAKER_00: This podcast is about claiming ownership of our experiences, our stories, and our power.
- 2:26SPEAKER_00: So menopause is something nearly every woman goes through.
- 2:30SPEAKER_00: Yet it often is treated like a very shameful secret.
- 2:35SPEAKER_00: So why is that?
- 2:36SPEAKER_00: Why do we let the world define what this phase of our life should look like?
- 2:41SPEAKER_00: This is about taking that narrative back.
- 2:44SPEAKER_00: All right, let's move on to the second word.
- 2:47SPEAKER_00: Sexy.
- 2:48SPEAKER_00: And then when I say sexy, oh, the loaded word that is sexy.
- 2:55SPEAKER_00: For so long, sexy has been defined for us by magazines, movies, and a culture that basically equates sexy with youth uh and size to jeans and flawless skin.
- 3:09SPEAKER_00: But let's be real.
- 3:11SPEAKER_00: Sexy isn't a dress size, and it's not about meeting someone else's expectations.
- 3:17SPEAKER_00: Sexy is personal, it evolves with us.
- 3:21SPEAKER_00: Think about it.
- 3:22SPEAKER_00: In your 20s, sexy might have been about turning heads in our 30s.
- 3:27SPEAKER_00: It might have been about us juggling it all, career, family, and still finding that moment to feel good in our own skin by our 40s and 50s.
- 3:37SPEAKER_00: Sexy kind of begins to shift.
- 3:40SPEAKER_00: You know, it becomes less about others and more about us.
- 3:44SPEAKER_00: It's about the confidence to say no to things that don't serve us anymore.
- 3:49SPEAKER_00: The courage to also show up authentically and the wisdom to embrace us, who we are and where we are today.
- 3:58SPEAKER_00: So let me ask you this.
- 3:59SPEAKER_00: What does sexy mean to you right now?
- 4:03SPEAKER_00: Let's let that one sink in.
- 4:06SPEAKER_00: Because here's the truth.
- 4:11SPEAKER_00: And nobody else.
- 4:14SPEAKER_00: That's pretty powerful if you think about it.
- 4:16SPEAKER_00: All right, let's move on to the next word.
- 4:19SPEAKER_00: Body.
- 4:20SPEAKER_00: And so finally, body.
- 4:21SPEAKER_00: When we talk about our bodies during menopause, it's impossible not to acknowledge the challenges that we face.
- 4:29SPEAKER_00: Menopause does bring real changes.
- 4:31SPEAKER_00: Hot flashes, night sweats, weight shifts, and of course, a host of other surprises we will address on each one of these podcasts.
- 4:40SPEAKER_00: But our bodies are so much more than their symptoms.
- 4:44SPEAKER_00: They are our home, they are our vessel, and of course, they are our story.
- 4:50SPEAKER_00: Yes, this phase can feel, I don't know, unfamiliar.
- 4:54SPEAKER_00: But what if we shifted this perspective?
- 4:57SPEAKER_00: Hmm.
- 4:58SPEAKER_00: That's kind of an interesting thought, right?
- 5:00SPEAKER_00: Instead of seeing menopause as, well, like a loss, what if we saw it as a transformation?
- 5:09unknown: Huh.
- 5:10SPEAKER_00: A chance to reconnect basically with ourselves in a deeper, more intentional way.
- 5:16SPEAKER_00: See, our bodies carry us through every phase of life.
- 5:20SPEAKER_00: And now is the time to honor them.
- 5:22SPEAKER_00: Not by chasing some outdated ideal, but by embracing them.
- 5:26SPEAKER_00: Flaws and all.
- 5:29SPEAKER_00: Here's the thing about menopause that no one talks about.
- 5:33SPEAKER_00: We spend one-third to one half of our lives in this phase.
- 5:38SPEAKER_00: Now let's just let that sink in.
- 5:40SPEAKER_00: It's so good, I just gotta say it again.
- 5:43SPEAKER_00: Think about this.
- 5:44SPEAKER_00: We spend one third to one half of our lives in this phase.
- 5:50SPEAKER_00: Why haven't we been talking about this earlier?
- 5:53SPEAKER_00: Why didn't we learn about this in school?
- 5:55SPEAKER_00: Why weren't we prepared for this?
- 5:59SPEAKER_00: Well, you know, this isn't just a blip on a radar.
- 6:03SPEAKER_00: It's a significant part of who we are.
- 6:06SPEAKER_00: And if we're going to spend this much time here, shouldn't we make it more meaningful?
- 6:12SPEAKER_00: I mean, really, shouldn't we own it?
- 6:14SPEAKER_00: I mean, that's what this podcast is all about.
- 6:17SPEAKER_00: Changing the conversation around menopause from one of our loss to one of power and growth and basically reinvention.
- 6:26SPEAKER_00: So what I want to do on this very first podcast is I want to tackle some of the myths around menopause that keep us stuck.
- 6:36SPEAKER_00: All right.
- 6:36SPEAKER_00: Because I find that this is the first symptom of menopause is when the reality sinks in.
- 6:44SPEAKER_00: And some of the myths that we've been told or we've heard or we even maybe even believe keep us stuck in this state.
- 6:53SPEAKER_00: So let's think about myth number one.
- 6:56SPEAKER_00: Of course, title of the show menopause means the end of feeling sexy.
- 7:00SPEAKER_00: Well, it doesn't.
- 7:02SPEAKER_00: The fact is that menopause is only the beginning of a new kind of sexy.
- 7:07SPEAKER_00: One that's you know deeply personal and of course self-defined.
- 7:12SPEAKER_00: So you get to define who you are at this stage.
- 7:16SPEAKER_00: Myth number two, weight gain during menopause is inevitable.
- 7:21SPEAKER_00: Well, you know, while hormone changes can make a weight loss harder, it's not inevitable.
- 7:28SPEAKER_00: A balanced approach to nutrition, movement, and self-care can make all the difference in the world.
- 7:34SPEAKER_00: And again, each one of these are going to be a podcast in itself.
- 7:38SPEAKER_00: So um we've got I've got so much information and so many wonderful guests lined up uh for our show.
- 7:44SPEAKER_00: So I just want to let you know that there is hope.
- 7:48SPEAKER_00: Another myth menopause is a time of decline.
- 7:52SPEAKER_00: Well, the fact is that menopause is a time of transformation, it's a chance to focus on what's really and truly matters, whether it's your health or whether it's relationships or even passions.
- 8:05SPEAKER_00: So, ladies, here's the challenge.
- 8:08SPEAKER_00: Let's stop letting go of what others define about this phase of life should look like for us.
- 8:15SPEAKER_00: Let's stop shrinking ourselves, stop apologizing for changes we can't control, or trying to fit into a mold that, you know what, that was never really designed for us.
- 8:25SPEAKER_00: Menopause is not the end.
- 8:28SPEAKER_00: It's not the end.
- 8:29SPEAKER_00: It's an invitation to show up fully and unapologetically as the women we are today.
- 8:36SPEAKER_00: So this is about redefining sexy body and our own self on our own terms.
- 8:45SPEAKER_00: It's about building a community where we all can share stories and lift each other up, and of course, celebrate the beauty and the strength that comes along with this chapter in life.
- 8:56SPEAKER_00: So that's my first episode, and I'm so excited to share the rest of them with you.
- 9:04SPEAKER_00: And I hope you hang in there with me and and let me know how you feel about these uh podcasts.
- 9:10SPEAKER_00: So I really want to thank you for joining me on this very first first episode of My Sexy Menopause Body.
- 9:17SPEAKER_00: And I hope this has sparked something in you, uh, kind of a curiosity or a new perspective, or maybe just a little bit of hope.
- 9:25SPEAKER_00: You know, this is just the beginning, and I can't wait to dive deeper into the topics with you in the upcoming episodes.
- 9:32SPEAKER_00: So until next time, remember this sexy is defined by you and nobody else.
- 9:39SPEAKER_00: You've got this, and we're in this together.
- 9:42SPEAKER_00: Until next time, take care.
- 9:50SPEAKER_01: Thanks for being here with us on my sexy menopause body.
- 9:54SPEAKER_01: Remember, this is your journey, your chance to own your body, mind, and spirit.
