- 0:01Oh, God. Oh, my God. Well, I'm really happy to
- 0:24have you guys here. Got Nick. It was Nick joining
- 0:27us. Thank you again. Thanks. It's real inconvenient.
- 0:30Yeah, I know. I know. Well, inconveniencing you
- 0:33is primarily what gets me out of bed. I'm going
- 0:37to get yelled at for this. Yeah, thank you. Well,
- 0:42everything I can do to help. And then joining
- 0:44us today is also Nick. Nice to meet you, Nick.
- 0:47I'm here. Hey, shake hands. I haven't shaken
- 0:50your hand yet. That's nice. Yes. A round of handshakes
- 0:53all around. Shake you, shake you, shake, shake.
- 0:55Oh, just one shake? Yeah, just one. Okay, that's
- 0:58weird. Just a firm up -down. Just quick. So,
- 1:05okay, we know Nick, but Nick, what brings us,
- 1:10what brings you into this fold? That's a good
- 1:15question. I feel like, what was it, about two
- 1:18months ago, one month ago? It's like a text,
- 1:21like, hey, your name is Nick. We're doing an
- 1:24April Fool's episode to review Street Fighter.
- 1:29The movie from 1994, which just brought me down
- 1:33memory lane. I was like, oh, man, I remember
- 1:35that movie. I have a Street Fighter 2 cabinet
- 1:39arcade game. Awesome. Non -functional in my basement.
- 1:45Non -functional. You know, it's fine to look
- 1:48at. Yeah, it is. You know, I dream. I've had
- 1:50some girlfriends who were like that, too. Completely
- 1:52non -functional, but nice to look at. So, yeah,
- 1:57I think I missed out like twice being able to
- 1:59do it. And then I think we all missed out twice.
- 2:02So here we are in mid -May. Mid -May recording
- 2:05that April Fool's Day. Hey, joke's on you guys.
- 2:09We always follow through. Oh, that's awesome.
- 2:15So you're not even surprised that the movie is
- 2:18based off of Street Fighter 2, not Street Fighter
- 2:211 then. No, I totally, I knew what I was getting
- 2:24into. Even as a, I don't know how old I was when
- 2:28I first watched it. Probably 12 maybe, I think.
- 2:34Might have been the last time I've seen it, but
- 2:36yeah. Oh man, I wish that was, I've definitely
- 2:40seen it a lot recently, but it's been a thing.
- 2:45I think every two years I probably get back into
- 2:49it. I must say, like, I expected to totally hate
- 2:53it. I was so into it. Oh, my God. So into it,
- 2:59you watched it weeks before. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 3:01In preparation for a podcast that had nothing
- 3:04to do with. That's okay, though. You know, and
- 3:08I'm glad I did. It was worth my time. as good
- 3:15as I'll say about this. It was worth your time.
- 3:17You know, that's pretty high praise for this
- 3:19movie. It was worth the time I put into it. I
- 3:24like that. Okay, well, hey, I think we're all
- 3:28introduced. We've got Nick, recurring Nick. We've
- 3:32got new Nick. We've got me. It's old Nick. This
- 3:37is so cool. There's going to be zero further
- 3:40preambles. It's just Nick. um so nick how is
- 3:47it like being well what do i think about being
- 3:50nick um i think it's 80 sex and 30 dog and i
- 3:59like that a lot about it well with that i think
- 4:04it's really about time that i say hey everybody
- 4:07welcome to cage match a roundabout way of meeting
- 4:09nicholas cage on this podcast we only talk about
- 4:13nicholas cage movies except for today when we're
- 4:16doing oops all nicks and we're only talking about
- 4:201994 street fighter cult classic no nicholas
- 4:25cage lots of john claude van damme that's who
- 4:29that guy was yeah oh dude i you know there's
- 4:34credits where they show the names yeah skip over
- 4:36that I'm not interested in history. This isn't
- 4:42a history lesson. Okay. Okay, so I didn't realize
- 4:47that was him. Okay, well, let's work through
- 4:49the cast. So we got Jean -Claude Van Damme as
- 4:51Guile. Traditionally tall, haired, blonde, cool,
- 4:56muscular, American soldier. American, yeah. Yeah,
- 4:59American. Let's go. Then who do we got? We got,
- 5:02obviously, Raul Julia as M. Bison. Bad ass. Like,
- 5:07oh my god, I loved his performance. He really
- 5:10fucking killed it. It was his last movie, right?
- 5:13It was, yeah. What? He filmed this while terminally
- 5:18ill with cancer. And he didn't tell anybody.
- 5:21He just filmed it, and then before it even came
- 5:23out, he passed away. I remember one thing from
- 5:26when it came out. It was like, this is his last
- 5:28movie, and my god, is it trash. From the reviews.
- 5:34I do not. Agree with that sentiment. Yeah, it's
- 5:36got critically panned. I think it sits at about
- 5:40like 10 % or something on Rotten Tomatoes. So
- 5:43pretty terrible, but beloved by nostalgia. It
- 5:48was not beloved in its time, I'm sure. It did
- 5:50well. It grossed well. There was a lot to love,
- 5:54honestly. Like, you know, being totally unaware
- 5:57of like the, you know, its release and all that.
- 6:03I guess it's not surprising, but honestly, it
- 6:05was just a badass action movie that had everything
- 6:09I would ever want in a badass action movie. Yeah.
- 6:12It had Mulan. Ming -Na Wen. She was Chun -Li.
- 6:18Oh, damn. Yeah. All right. I'm not going to lie
- 6:21to you, Nick. I'm going to tell it to you straight.
- 6:23That is rad, actually. Yeah? Yeah. And then,
- 6:27I think after that, it's a bunch of people that
- 6:29nobody cares about. Oh, yeah. Kylie Minogue.
- 6:32Kylie Minogue is in this, weirdly. I think this
- 6:36must have been right when she was kind of getting
- 6:37sort of popular and getting a little bit of an
- 6:40American presence. She was only 19, I think,
- 6:44when she filmed this. Wow. Yeah, that's weird.
- 6:47Yeah. Also weird that JCVD slept with her during
- 6:53production. Wait, what? Oh, yeah, no, like, so
- 6:57when this movie was going into production, he...
- 7:02He got a divorce from his third wife, and then
- 7:05before the ink was dry, he was getting married
- 7:08to his fourth wife, who turned out to be pregnant,
- 7:11and then during production, he had an affair
- 7:13with Kylie Minogue. God damn. Classic guy. What
- 7:17a life. Yeah. Well, I mean, allegedly, he was
- 7:23budgeting about $10 ,000 a week for cocaine.
- 7:26so this movie oh my god i think it makes a lot
- 7:31more sense now like yeah yeah i forgot about
- 7:35how much coke people were doing back then no
- 7:37yeah i was in the shower today just trying to
- 7:40like do some math thinking about like how much
- 7:43like today world cocaine is that and uh it's
- 7:47still a lot 100 grams a week i think is what
- 7:50i came up with that's a lot of cocaine i would
- 7:53imagine not a kilo that was just mathematically
- 7:55well i'm sure he's shared it i mean generally
- 8:00people with cocaine of that amount are pretty
- 8:03like insistent that everybody else does it too
- 8:06i got too much cocaine so that's your main cast
- 8:10and then there's people who play sagat vega e
- 8:15-honda balrog Well, obviously, Blanca's in there.
- 8:20They jammed them all in there, everyone. I say
- 8:26some words about 49 % evil Blanca. Oh my god,
- 8:34that was one of the coolest things ever. Right
- 8:35at the end, they toned it down. Gave them its
- 8:38humanity back. I love the bags of... Oh, yeah,
- 8:42mutagen and, like, the orange anabolic plasma.
- 8:46And the green. Lots of it. Yeah, the anabolic
- 8:50plasma for his hair. Because it's orange. And
- 8:53green for his skin. And as a Dhalsim fan from
- 8:56the game, I could not have been more. I think
- 9:01just about every character did a pretty good
- 9:05job of disappointing anybody who was ever a fan
- 9:10of the franchise. And that's pretty cool. Yeah,
- 9:12it's pretty cool to like really get out there
- 9:14and just be like, fuck y 'all. I think, Nick,
- 9:17why don't you go ahead and give us a quick summary
- 9:19of the movie? All right. Let me see if I can
- 9:22try for all the uneducated out there. M. Bison.
- 9:26Has taken over a South Asian country called...
- 9:30Do you guys remember what it was called? Oh,
- 9:33Shadaloo. Shadaloo. So that's actually in Street
- 9:37Fighter lore. We're going to do lore. The criminal
- 9:42organization that M. Bison runs. Hold on, is
- 9:46there actually lore to Street Fighter? Yeah,
- 9:48a weirdly absurd amount. Oh my god. If you go
- 9:52back and look at lore... the the character biographies
- 9:57sometimes it's like oh this person was a failed
- 10:00boxer and then the next one is like this person
- 10:03was a ninja whose second father was killed in
- 10:07the mountains of this and then this person is
- 10:11a cool cleaner it's like wow yeah very inconsistent
- 10:15i guess i realized as someone who played the
- 10:19game a lot as a kid That as characters came out
- 10:22as being, like, evil or good, I was just genuinely
- 10:25surprised. Like, I was like, oh, Vega, bad. E.
- 10:30Honda, good. Blanca kind of in the middle. I
- 10:33was like... Yeah, the original, like, bads were,
- 10:36what, Bison, Sagat, Vega, and... Dhalsim wasn't
- 10:43bad, but... God, there was somebody else. I can't
- 10:46remember now, though. And Ryu and Ken, not. douchebags
- 10:50as they kind of were. No. In written canon, Ryu
- 11:00and Ken were not hustlers who were trying to
- 11:04scam major terrorist cabals with tennis ball
- 11:11guns. Did they find meaning in the end, though,
- 11:15or whatever? I doubt it. I bet they went on to
- 11:20do shittier scams. They probably just scammed
- 11:23the U .S. government, which is the safest way
- 11:25to get money. Okay, so one thing I have been
- 11:29wondering about this movie, and if you know the
- 11:31cast, I'm curious about the voiceover lady for
- 11:36the computer. like in the game no in this movie
- 11:43it's one of my favorite parts it's like you know
- 11:47when she's all like you know danger you know
- 11:49increasing blah blah blah and you know it's all
- 11:52just standard warning things it's like it seems
- 11:54like a normal job and then one of her lines is
- 11:57all like hostage pit opening where am i working
- 12:03again somebody's in the voiceover booth just
- 12:06recording these and they're like Yeah, and there's
- 12:10a whole self -destruct sequence one, and it's
- 12:13all like, I guess, as long as I'm being paid.
- 12:16Yeah, this was way before you had a TikTok AI
- 12:19voice to cover these things for you. Yeah, and
- 12:22so I just kind of wonder, who was that person?
- 12:26I don't know. Let's see if it is uncovered in
- 12:31Nick's summary. It's not. Definitely not. Yeah,
- 12:38so... I forgot. Shadaloo? Shadaloo. Shadaloo
- 12:42is being opposed by a kind of quasi -UN led by
- 12:49Colonel Guile, really hopped up on cocaine just
- 12:54right from the get -go. Comes in, shows his muscle
- 12:57with his really stellar American flag tattoo
- 13:00and tells Bison to shove it. Are you ready for
- 13:07another interruption? Yes. So there were days
- 13:09that Jean -Claude wouldn't just go on set and
- 13:14his excuse was he was pumping his muscles. Like,
- 13:19not coming out right now. I'm pumping my muscles.
- 13:24What? Cocaine! This guy is freaking nuts. Oh
- 13:30my god. All right. So we got Guile's muscles.
- 13:36Guile's muscles. Hella pumped. We've got, like,
- 13:39a spunky, dedicated reporter for International
- 13:43News Corp, Chun -Li, you know, getting the story.
- 13:49And apparently, I don't know if we're jumping
- 13:50ahead, but apparently they had instant chemistry
- 13:52that I only became, like, aware of at the very
- 13:56end of the movie when, you know, Guile and Chun
- 13:59-Li, like... I don't think they had... anything
- 14:02between them it caught me completely off guard
- 14:04and all of a sudden at the end they like yeah
- 14:07I like I really like that because like throughout
- 14:10the whole movie Cammy's just like throwing herself
- 14:13yeah and then Cammy's just like oh you know she
- 14:16weeps at the end and he's like no I'm sorry Chun
- 14:19-Li I'm in love with you he's like there was
- 14:21tear gas on the escape yeah no I'm just dropping
- 14:27it in Chun -Li so it's Chun -Li and her crack
- 14:30oh yeah her crew like her whole news team of
- 14:33balrog balrog and ihonda hawaiian ihonda i mean
- 14:38it's what a great crew why the hawaiian choice
- 14:42i like whenever you could mismatch the like because
- 14:45another big part of street fighters like you
- 14:47take a plane it goes to a different part of the
- 14:50world and you're like oh i'm in japan ihonda
- 14:53is a sumo wrestler and they're like no let's
- 14:55let's go Let's go Hawaii for this guy. And I
- 15:00can't even remember, what was their backstory?
- 15:02They were all individually wronged by Bison.
- 15:05I think that's as deep as it gets. I think Chun
- 15:10-Li's the only one who gave it more than a sentence.
- 15:12Everybody else was like, ooh, I got beef. It's
- 15:15a line. Street beef. So yeah. And what does Bison
- 15:22want? Twenty... billion dollars the astounding
- 15:29oh my god amount of 20 billion dollars totally
- 15:33i love that he wants 20 billion dollars but then
- 15:39like he's explaining to dj in like a scene shortly
- 15:45later where it's like I'm going to pay you in
- 15:48bison bucks because each bison buck is going
- 15:52to be worth more than five pounds once I've kidnapped
- 15:55their queen and forced them to. So it's like,
- 15:58what's the 20 billion dollars going to be worth?
- 16:01I was thinking about that, but as you're operating
- 16:05your own government, you do need various foreign
- 16:08currencies so that you can maintain a valuable
- 16:11exchange. And I know as a future dictator wannabe,
- 16:15you have looked into this. Yeah, so it does actually
- 16:19make sense that he does need various world currencies
- 16:22in order to establish his reign of terror. Post
- 16:27-gold standard. nation state of bisonopolis i
- 16:31would live there though it looked cool man and
- 16:35honestly i had a sweet like sinister skull with
- 16:40wings kind of building like it seems like as
- 16:43long as you don't cross him he's not a bad boss
- 16:45either yeah i mean he's got that smoking jacket
- 16:48and the the nighttime like velour dictator hat
- 16:52that goes with it oh that's pretty sweet yeah
- 16:54the casual dictator All right, so we've got the
- 17:01reporting team. We know who they are. What do
- 17:05we got else? I feel like next we transition to,
- 17:08like, the underground fighting slash gambling
- 17:12circuit where it's like a cage fight. Might have
- 17:16been electrified. Vega is the hero. Yeah, I think
- 17:20the cage was electrified, yeah. I think, and
- 17:23to me, as a kid... I was most disappointed by
- 17:26the characters who, like, appear next being Ryu
- 17:28and Ken. I was just like, they were the coolest.
- 17:32And they kind of, you know. They got really weak.
- 17:35Bop in and, you know, they're selling some guns
- 17:38to Sagat. Yeah. They thought they were tricking
- 17:43him in some way. You know, they had the guns
- 17:46hidden and they were going to walkie -talkie
- 17:48and tell him the location. he already knew it
- 17:50he already found the nerf guns and yeah you know
- 17:53he shows them uh by shooting them in the face
- 17:56what about ken's outfit the denim shirt with
- 18:01the tie and like the brown i don't know is that
- 18:04like a suede vest that he's wearing it's just
- 18:08joey from full house it's the whole it's all
- 18:10i thought the whole time i'm like oh no oh yeah
- 18:14yeah those guys come in looking like supreme
- 18:17dorks and like with everybody in this film like
- 18:21they're kind of like juiced up and big and like
- 18:24those two just look like guys yeah yeah i didn't
- 18:29even realize they were main characters like theoretically
- 18:32i don't know i always felt like they were kind
- 18:36of the main street fighter characters you know
- 18:38no i really thought like this was a story about
- 18:40guile and bison and Chun -Li for some reason.
- 18:45Well, the movie certainly. The movie, yeah. The
- 18:47games, Ryu is like the primary protagonist. Yeah,
- 18:53I should say, I played Street Fighter a few times,
- 18:56but not often. I wasn't allowed to, you know,
- 19:00growing up. Kind of develop bad habits. it. You'd
- 19:03be out there, like, throwing fireballs at people.
- 19:06Wish. Oh, man. That was my safe one. Like, my
- 19:09parents were like, oh, well, Street Fighter,
- 19:11that's okay. It's animated. It's that Mortal
- 19:12Kombat with just that intense gore that would
- 19:16warp your mind. That is true. That's the one
- 19:18I had to sneak. Yeah, Mortal Kombat is definitely
- 19:20full of Satan. Did you know that they made a
- 19:23video game based on the movie? So it was Street
- 19:27Fighter, the movie, the video game. I did know
- 19:30that. And they used Mortal Kombat technology
- 19:32to film the actors doing all this stuff. So it's
- 19:37just like... This is amazing. Jean -Claude Van
- 19:39Damme, yeah. It looked even... I kind of need
- 19:43to know. The video game has a higher rating on
- 19:46IMDb than the movie does by like 0 .2%. It's
- 19:51like 4 .2 to 4 .3 or something. Oh, that's so
- 19:55sad. Yeah. I felt like I did... I felt throughout
- 19:58this movie, there were two movies that I couldn't
- 20:00help just like think of. Like as I was going
- 20:03through first was the super Mario brothers movie.
- 20:06Oh yeah. Just like, cause it was from that era
- 20:08where like movies knew they wanted to make like
- 20:12video game adaptations, but they did not know
- 20:15like how to execute on that. To just like lean
- 20:19into like. And they were just kind of, yeah,
- 20:22they wouldn't lean in. And whereas Mortal Kombat,
- 20:24which is the other movie I thought about, just
- 20:26I felt like totally leaned in. And they're like,
- 20:28we need to show everyone's signature move. We
- 20:31need to make sure that we deliver on like everything.
- 20:33And still really, you know, cheesy and bad. Oh,
- 20:36that one was so bad. This one is just like, let's
- 20:39just, we'll get every character in, but we're
- 20:41just going to go fucking anywhere. When the newer
- 20:45Mortal Kombat movie came out, like during COVID.
- 20:49I went back and I tried re -watching the old
- 20:50ones. Holy shit. Those are so hard to look at.
- 20:55They're like, I don't think the graphics are
- 20:57like in any way better than the video game. It's
- 21:01rough. It's like real aggressively bad. That
- 21:04is a saving grace of Street Fighter. I feel like
- 21:07they did not have CGI. Early 90s CGI. At the
- 21:11end of the movie, Ryan was supposed to have a
- 21:14Hadouken. And you see a white flash on the screen.
- 21:18It's like, yeah, we had no post -production credit.
- 21:21They were like, maybe if we have a little money
- 21:24left over, we'll throw a little Hadouken in there.
- 21:27We'll just throw one white cell in there. And
- 21:29it's like, okay, great. One frame. I was wondering
- 21:33where that was supposed to come in. It was like
- 21:35the one thing that I was looking for. He does
- 21:38the move and it goes nowhere. That's all the
- 21:42flashiness. Not a sonic boom. Not a... No single
- 21:47move. No yoga flame. Oh, well, you did have M.
- 21:51Bison, like, doing his, like... Oh, that's true.
- 21:53Oh, God, I love that. He did have something like...
- 21:55He's, like, his lightning jetpack. Ember Palpatine
- 21:58situation going on. I love this jetpack move
- 22:01where he's just, like... upward fisting sideways.
- 22:05I love upward fisting. That's such a good move.
- 22:08One time I was watching this adult documentary
- 22:11and this chick was like just squatting next to
- 22:14a pool and then in slow motion a fist just came
- 22:17out. Bam. I was like, sure you can see a little
- 22:23dictator hat from off screen. You know, that's
- 22:28just to connect with what you were saying. He's
- 22:32all like, I'm going to levitate now. And then
- 22:35he's all like, I'll show you powers of superconductors.
- 22:42Yeah, he really leans into the power of superconductors.
- 22:46With no, no explanation. For no reason. Like
- 22:49there's no, that came out of nowhere. All of
- 22:51a sudden he's all like, check it out. I'm really
- 22:54into superconductors. I love that when he gets
- 22:57into that position, like when Guile puts him
- 23:00down. Spoiler for everybody. We haven't gotten
- 23:04to this yet. When Kyle puts him down in that
- 23:06last fight and then he's like checking in on
- 23:08the radio. And then in the background, there's
- 23:11just the M. Bison life support computer. And
- 23:14it's like, oh, applying CPR. His fucking chest
- 23:19starts going up and down. Electric shock. Adrenaline.
- 23:26It's pretty perfect. Oh, yeah, we had the street
- 23:30fights. Selling guns to Sagat. Jean -Claude Guile
- 23:35drives a tank with two giant missiles through
- 23:39the side of the illegal fighting rink and arrests
- 23:43everyone. What? Really badass. What kind of tank
- 23:47has just, like, fucking Sidewinder missiles or,
- 23:50like, ICBMs on the side of it? Like, those things
- 23:53were huge. They were the full length of the tank.
- 23:57I was impressed. They were bigger than the main
- 24:00cannon. Yeah, that was huge in the 80s, 90s.
- 24:05So many things were like even just getting TV
- 24:07shows because they could sell toys like He -Man.
- 24:11Totally tracks, but I didn't even just think
- 24:14of how the aesthetic of it was. Street Sharks
- 24:17was a great one. I'd buy so many Street Shark
- 24:19toys if I found them right now. Biker Mice from
- 24:22Mars. So many good shows out there. Dino Riders.
- 24:26Dino Riders, yep. Then they're all arrested.
- 24:29Uh -huh. And they all go to prison, you know.
- 24:32By all of them, I mean Ryu can bust in and, like,
- 24:37come out. He's just like, you are all under arrest.
- 24:41It's just the dumbest. Oh, my God. The fucking
- 24:43line readings in this. I love it when you have
- 24:47a cast of people whose, like, primary language
- 24:51isn't necessarily English, but they have to communicate.
- 24:55like on a chop as if like english is their native
- 24:58language and abandon all uh fucking accents uh
- 25:03the the scene in the main like planning room
- 25:08where it's guile talking to sawada i think was
- 25:11the character's name uh and it's just two guys
- 25:14definitely not like native english people giving
- 25:18lines and talking like this but what if When
- 25:24it happens, it sounds like this. It's just incredible.
- 25:30Zero pacing. Yeah. The lack of pacing. Yeah.
- 25:35I mean, I gotta say, though, I mean, I enjoyed
- 25:37this movie so much. I know. It's so fun. It was
- 25:42great. I thought I was going to hate it. I put
- 25:45the hostage pit. Nick loves a hostage pit. It's
- 25:50actually a really good strategy. Now, after seeing
- 25:53their hostage pit, did you actually make any
- 25:55modifications to your own hostage pit? I don't
- 25:58own property. I can't afford that. I mean, you
- 26:02don't have to own to install. I don't ask my
- 26:07landlord for fucking shit. Yeah. But I modify
- 26:11the fuck out of his place. I think I would need
- 26:14to be on a ground floor apartment so that I could.
- 26:18It does make pits better. Yeah. Unless you can,
- 26:20like, block off your downstairs neighbor's place
- 26:24and then they become a hostage. First hostage
- 26:26in the pit. It's not even that illegal, actually.
- 26:32Yeah, I'm sure it's not. Okay, so once you've
- 26:36got your first hostage in the pit, though, at
- 26:39this moment, I'm assuming it's your downstairs
- 26:40neighbor. Yeah. Who's second hostage? Like, who's
- 26:43your first, like, they're a hostage hostage?
- 26:47The first person that knocks on the downstairs
- 26:50neighbor's store. Oh, yeah. Do you have, like,
- 26:52some kind of cool vacuum machine that, like,
- 26:54pulls them in? No. Do you have one of those,
- 26:57like, funhouse, like, tunnels where it fills
- 27:00up and it's, like, you have to push through a
- 27:02vagina and then, like, you can't go backwards
- 27:05because there's probably thorns? Oh, yeah. One
- 27:08of the... Oh, you do have that. Okay, cool. That's
- 27:11a starting point. Really quick. But yeah, so
- 27:15you start getting hostages. I think at some point
- 27:18you need to get the word out that you have the
- 27:20hostages, though. So that's what M. Bison was
- 27:23doing. Yeah, for $20 billion. Yeah, I guess you
- 27:28need soldiers at that point to defend. It helps.
- 27:31What was up with the forced narrative that Bison
- 27:36is like a drug kingpin? They're like terrorists
- 27:41and drug... Overlord, M. Bison. It's like, why
- 27:46is he talking about drugs? I know it's cool to
- 27:48hate on drugs. That might have been how he got
- 27:51the start of this empire, I would think. I don't
- 27:54know. It just feels like it was unnecessary to
- 27:56shoehorn drugs into this movie. I mean, Van Damme
- 27:59did enough of that. I mean, he had to get to
- 28:03power somehow, and it might have been like an
- 28:05established drug empire. I don't remember that
- 28:08on my Super Nintendo. I just remember in the
- 28:11arcade, always. don't do drugs before Street
- 28:14Fighter even started. Maybe that was a Capcom
- 28:17request. Was Bison a good character in Street
- 28:22Fighter? Was he playable? Yeah. Oh, he was great
- 28:26to play. He was the cheapest character, I think.
- 28:29Yeah. Easiest to win. Unless, except in Street
- 28:36Fighter 2, is it Turbo? Where you get the secret
- 28:41character, what's his name, Akumi? Oh, yeah.
- 28:44He's, like, the alternate, like, end boss and
- 28:47is, like, hands down the most powerful character
- 28:50in the game. Even the dumbed -down player version
- 28:54of him is, like, he's, like, banned in tournaments.
- 28:58A sad non -inclusion in the movie. I mean, they'd
- 29:01already, like, Nighthawk or Nighthawk. T -Hawk.
- 29:05Yeah, T -Hawk, T -Hawk, yeah. Who are some of
- 29:08the other weird ones? I don't know. They had
- 29:10a bunch of the nobodies. I like DJ's expanded
- 29:14role. DJ, the Jamaican musician. Evil tech. Yeah.
- 29:22Who has a line about, you know, I'm going to
- 29:25try to go back and work at Microsoft after this
- 29:28or something like that, which I was wondering
- 29:30was the earliest Microsoft reference. That is
- 29:34probably the best. I wouldn't work at Microsoft
- 29:37if I could work with folk like that. He seems
- 29:40rad, actually. The old days. Okay, so we've arrested
- 29:47everybody. I'm going to try to... I know I'm
- 29:51going to interrupt, so I'll just jump in. So
- 29:54everybody gets arrested. They're thrown into
- 29:58cells. At this point, what, like... Chun -Li
- 30:03breaks in to figure out where this other homing
- 30:07beacon is coming from. And oh my god, it's Guile
- 30:11in the morgue. Oh wait, no, I jumped some stuff.
- 30:13So they hire Ken and Ryu to get themselves shoehorned
- 30:21or forced into Sagat's crew. And to do it, they're
- 30:24like, oh, we'll orchestrate this escape. They
- 30:28don't tell you any of this. You'll shoot. Guile,
- 30:32and they'll be so overwhelmed with joy that you're
- 30:35in, and then you'll help give us the bad guys.
- 30:38So all that happens. Guile's in a morgue. Chun
- 30:42-Li shows up, and it's like, oh, you're still
- 30:44alive. And he's like, I wouldn't give you an
- 30:46interview when I was alive. Why would I do it
- 30:48when I'm dead? Pan to the camera. Such a stupid
- 30:53scene. God, I hated that one. Well, you've got
- 30:56to develop that chemistry, you know, scene by
- 30:58scene. And then Guile's like, get her out of
- 31:01here, and some soldiers take her away. From there,
- 31:04we start... Oh, we go to the Sagat bison world.
- 31:14So I really liked this area, because bison...
- 31:18chooses to celebrate everything that's going
- 31:21on by having some kind of weird terrorist carnival
- 31:24where it's just people like selling guns and
- 31:27shit out front and then you've got like a Cirque
- 31:29du Soleil thing happening inside. It seemed like
- 31:32a cool party, honestly. Yeah. Oh my God. All
- 31:35the fucking gun runners get together and watch
- 31:39an aerialist. Cool. That's a lot of fun. I would
- 31:43hang out with. you know bison he he would have
- 31:46won me over on that shit i mean he won you over
- 31:50well before so lo and behold the the aerialist
- 31:56turns out to be chung lee and like her whole
- 31:58crew is there and they're trying to do some shit
- 32:01to stop bison and uh they they get in there and
- 32:05it's like oh we're gonna blow up all your weapons
- 32:07and so they set that all up and In the lead up
- 32:12to that, when she's on TV being like, Bison,
- 32:15I'm going to fuck you over. Ken and Ryu are like
- 32:19getting found out for like being like, oh, there's
- 32:24traitors or whatever. And they're like, oh, we're
- 32:25going to take you guys. And they're like, oh,
- 32:28well, we're not the traitors. They're over there
- 32:31and like sell out Chun -Li and all of them. So
- 32:34that just makes them even more Bison troopers.
- 32:38Which gets us more of my favorite character in
- 32:41this, and that's Zangief. We haven't talked about
- 32:43Zangief the whole time. Oh, Zangief was the other
- 32:45bad guy that we forgot to mention earlier. He
- 32:48is awesome. I love everything about this guy,
- 32:51from his eyes that are too close together to
- 32:54the stupid sideways thumb thing, because he doesn't
- 32:58understand thumbs up or thumbs down. Doesn't
- 33:01understand that he's a bad guy. That's the biggest
- 33:05twist, I feel. He's just so stupid. He's my favorite.
- 33:11I just was constantly confused as to what...
- 33:15I know this sounds ridiculous. What the motives
- 33:18of Ryu and Ken were. They seemed to just kind
- 33:22of change sides. And I couldn't tell if they
- 33:25were, like, being sneaky, like, oh, like, let's
- 33:27just, like, get in their good graces more by
- 33:29selling out Chun -Li and E -Honda and whatever.
- 33:31They mentioned selling about, like, losing their
- 33:33passports or something. I'm trying to remember.
- 33:36Oh, yeah, they keep... Oh, yeah. Guile keeps,
- 33:38like, withholding their passports. Which, I mean,
- 33:41like, whatever. Yeah. No, I think they were definitely
- 33:45trying to keep from getting killed. So they were
- 33:51just doing whatever they could. to not get found
- 33:55out yeah and then also like repeatedly going
- 33:59back and be like hey guys we're still cool right
- 34:01like they go into after this try to break out
- 34:05e -honda and uh balrog and oh then they get choked
- 34:09out and there's funny miscommunication with choking
- 34:12and remember at this point my um like i watched
- 34:16this two nights ago my daughter margo nine -year
- 34:20-old like She likes to run downstairs, you know,
- 34:24if she knows we're watching a movie, especially
- 34:25one that she considered to be violent. And she
- 34:27got to see a lot of shooting. She's very excited
- 34:30about it. But then she's kind of sitting there
- 34:31bored. And like Chun -Li strikes M. Bison in
- 34:35some way that's like somewhat hurtful to him
- 34:37by like blowing something up. And she was like,
- 34:40oh, my God, I've been waiting so long for them
- 34:43to blow up a car. And they finally did it. Yeah,
- 34:46that must be when they blew up all those. But
- 34:49I still can't remember what strike did Chun -Li,
- 34:52like, you know, inflict upon M. Bice. Just blew
- 34:55up some bombs or something like that. Yeah, they
- 34:59put a bomb in their, like, circus truck and,
- 35:01like, rolled it down and, like, blew up all of
- 35:03the weapons he was trying to sell. Oh, yeah.
- 35:05It's like, oh, we're going to blow up your weapons.
- 35:08But my favorite line in this whole movie. And
- 35:12the one that I remember, but like I thought it
- 35:15was from like a history book or something like
- 35:17that or like some like it's to me, it's like
- 35:21such a good line when like Chun -Li has been
- 35:24captured by M. Bison and she explains how M.
- 35:28Bison came to her village and, you know, her
- 35:31dad rallied the farmers and M. Bison, you know,
- 35:34had him hung and destroyed. And, you know, it's
- 35:37her reason for, you know, hating him. And he's
- 35:39like, do you? When M. Bison visited your village,
- 35:44that was the most important day in your life.
- 35:47To me, it was just Tuesday. Such a baller line.
- 35:53It's by a magnitude of 10, the best line in the
- 35:58whole. I think that line, along with the majority
- 36:02of his performance, but really that line is what
- 36:05just kills it for most people with this film
- 36:08and with Raul Julia's character and performance.
- 36:11is like the fucking just straightforward way
- 36:15he's like no i swore that was like a well i like
- 36:18well -known line i talked to my partner megan
- 36:20i was like hey you know this line right you know
- 36:22to me it was just tuesday she's like no i've
- 36:25never heard that line before i'm like i swear
- 36:27that's the famous cinematic like you know i feel
- 36:32like i know it in my bones yeah it was definitely
- 36:35like this movie this movie has this line in it.
- 36:39No, it's a, there's gotta be nothing more culturally
- 36:42important. Oh, let's see. We have got everybody
- 36:47together. We're in Chattaloo. Oh my God. I forgot
- 36:49this thing's keeping going. Yeah. Oh, we haven't
- 36:52even talked about the Blanca's of it all. Yeah.
- 36:55This is a subplot in the entire, like beginning,
- 36:58uh, like the very beginning, we've got this whole
- 37:03hostage situation where Bison's got, uh, fucking
- 37:07guile's buddy carlos blanca and when he finds
- 37:10out it's guile's friend he's like oh we're gonna
- 37:12do this guy like dirty so take him down to the
- 37:17science lab and that's where they like give him
- 37:20over to dalcim and dalcim uh like an enslaved
- 37:24scientist or whatever you know he's enslaved
- 37:26because he's got his giant manacles and shack
- 37:29like shackles and everything uh and chains and
- 37:33whatnot it's very hot and then uh god damn what
- 37:38we've all got a type um i like stretchy boys
- 37:43uh prisoners prisoners that's my type i love
- 37:49it when i don't have to crush their will it's
- 37:51just done for me uh we're not gonna cut that
- 37:55and so like the whole science thing is like they're
- 37:59gonna fucking reverse Clockwork Orange Jim by
- 38:02putting some goggles on him and showing him like
- 38:04horrible shit. It's just like, it's just like
- 38:08the most stupidly edited together, like orange
- 38:11flames and like, like maybe face melting scream
- 38:14guy and then a burning building and this and
- 38:17that is like, this is going to teach him to be
- 38:19like super aggressive and angry. And later when
- 38:22Dhalsim gets his, his chance to try to reverse
- 38:26it. He's just showing him like weddings and puppies
- 38:29and shit. And it's like, this is going to fix
- 38:31him. But at that point, he's already like the
- 38:33biggest foreheaded green guy with his stupid
- 38:36orange, like a fucking Sideshow Bob hair or whatever.
- 38:41It's... And, like, every three minutes his muscle
- 38:46mass would go up by 1%. Oh, yeah. Muscle mass.
- 38:5050%. Meanwhile, he's, like, screaming in agony,
- 38:56which I just freaking love. Yeah. I assume it's
- 39:01very painful to be watching weddings all the
- 39:05time. But it's also part of, like, a theatric,
- 39:08like, plot. to kind of dramatically murder the
- 39:12hostages by not just kind of like machine gunning
- 39:16them but like oh you strip away their humanity
- 39:18blanca up to like go go isn't that the plan at
- 39:22the end i feel like he's like he's supposed to
- 39:25be like a super soldier yeah oh yeah yeah they
- 39:28were gonna kill the hostages by releasing blanca
- 39:30in there and then they lift it up and like guile
- 39:33comes like Doing that cool flying kick. Flying
- 39:38kick. Then takes out his gun and fails to shoot.
- 39:42Oh, man. Yeah, he looked so coked out, too, in
- 39:48that shot. This, like, knowledge about his cocaine
- 39:51use, which I didn't have previous to this, just
- 39:54explains. And it's funny because, like, the one
- 39:56piece of, like, Jean -Claude, like, media that
- 40:01I turned to, I was like, you know what I really
- 40:03want to see? I was like, I want to see that Volvo
- 40:06commercial of him doing the splits. Oh, yeah,
- 40:10between the two trucks. With Enya playing. I
- 40:12was like, oh, man. He's in such a better place
- 40:15now. Yeah, he did clean up after this. So that's
- 40:18probably for the best. Eventually, yeah. I think
- 40:21everybody gets one Street Fighter and then you
- 40:23have to clean up. Oh, shouldn't have done that.
- 40:27I can't wait for my Street Fighter. I hope this
- 40:29podcast isn't my Street Fighter. Oh, shit. That
- 40:33silence says a lot. So, we've got Blanca. He's
- 40:38gonna be the bad, like, killer of the hostages.
- 40:41Everything is like, we're in a full -on, like,
- 40:43battle. We've got a stealth boat that came up
- 40:46and brought... Okay. It wasn't that stealth,
- 40:50right? Who sends a supersonic, like, stealth
- 40:53boat with a giant wake behind it? Stealth boat.
- 40:58Activate stealth mode. Take out... machine gun
- 41:01turrets and just mow down the radar uh sensors
- 41:06not in any way like discreet no it's like why
- 41:11do you need to take out all the radar if you're
- 41:13stealthed that should be doing it for you i'm
- 41:16sorry can we back up a little bit because like
- 41:19i there's i want to say this happens after my
- 41:22favorite scene of this entire thing and it's
- 41:26where like You got like the A .N. representative,
- 41:30the political guy. The dork. The dork. And he's
- 41:34all like, you got to tell your men we struck
- 41:38a deal. And, you know, the war is off. And then
- 41:42and then Guile is all like, you know. Fuck you,
- 41:47man. I'm going rogue. I'm taking my band of soldiers
- 41:52and we're going to disregard all the chain of
- 41:55command shit. He just got fired, so there's no
- 41:59chain of command for him. We're going to do our
- 42:01own thing. And I just absolutely love the idea
- 42:05of just bands of soldiers going rogue and doing
- 42:09whatever they want. I mean, that's really...
- 42:11And they try to promote this as a good thing.
- 42:13Like, we're fighting for justice. Yeah. Meanwhile,
- 42:17full anarchy. I love that later when the dork's
- 42:22on the phone with his boss and he's like, are
- 42:26there any soldiers left? And he's like, some.
- 42:28And it's just a cook sitting there. Boiling shoes
- 42:33or whatever. That's where I'd rather be, frankly.
- 42:35I'm not going into war. No way. Not even if you
- 42:39could ride in a stealth boat. So, you know, they
- 42:44had the stealth boat added in later on because
- 42:48Thailand refused to let them have airspace. So
- 42:52they weren't allowed to fly planes for an aerial
- 42:55assault. So they're like, I don't know, fucking
- 42:58stealth boat? Okay, stealth boat. Did you guys
- 43:02pick up on the arcade? machine that M. Bison
- 43:06used to slowly release water mines to blow up
- 43:13the sailboat. That was so awesome. That was a
- 43:16nice touch. Yeah, it was a nice nod. I liked
- 43:18that a lot. So we get full -on assault. We get
- 43:24Chun -Li fighting Bison at some point, I think.
- 43:29But it's mostly Guile. This is really the Guile
- 43:33-Bison showdown. It happens on platforms. I really
- 43:39like when Guile's up on that platform and all
- 43:41those soldiers, those Bison soldiers show up
- 43:43and he just pulls out his knife and they all
- 43:45back away and he's like, yeah, I'm real fucking
- 43:47tough. And it's like, no, he's got a bunch of
- 43:50soldiers behind him. He's like, you really thought
- 43:54they were afraid of you with a single knife,
- 43:56a fixed blade knife? Awesome. Cocaine. that was
- 44:01such a stupid scene though because like like
- 44:03up until that moment like everything he did was
- 44:05totally badass yeah yeah i mean yeah badass but
- 44:11goofy as fuck yeah like i think everything has
- 44:13a little little shine of goofiness on it in this
- 44:17movie and that i mean yeah that's the charm of
- 44:20it all it's like it's a bad movie but it's done
- 44:23knowing that it's not great i think So then he
- 44:26starts going on about superconductors for no
- 44:29reason. So we have a fight, and then it gets
- 44:31scientific, and in the end, everything explodes.
- 44:38So what is this? Self -destruct? Yeah, there's
- 44:41a self -destruct. So Bison self -destructs everything?
- 44:44I kind of forget. No, it's in the fight. Somebody
- 44:47gets knocked over onto the controller, I think,
- 44:49and it just... Really? Yeah, remember there was
- 44:52the plunger that brought them up to, like, yellow
- 44:54alert. And then somebody gets, like, punched
- 44:57into it, and when they fall on it, I think that's
- 44:59what switches it to self -destruct. If they don't
- 45:01turn on the actual self -destruct, someone's
- 45:03punched into it. There's absolutely no way that
- 45:05there's no safeguards for, like, the fortress
- 45:07self -destructing. You know how, like, you got,
- 45:11like, the two keys on either side of the console
- 45:14that are too far apart? Not necessary. This comes
- 45:17after you've had $20 billion to invest in a second
- 45:21keyhole. God freaking dang it. That's a really
- 45:28fast self -destruct thing. I mean, it did give
- 45:33them a lot of time. I think we also skipped over
- 45:37maybe the darkest scene in the movie, which is
- 45:42while he's in his stealth boat, Guile looks at
- 45:48a little video of him and Lieutenant Blanco.
- 45:52Like having a barbecue with their wives, you
- 45:55know, back in, you know, Texas or wherever. And
- 45:58then kind of, you know, looks wistfully and then
- 46:01gets there, finds, you know, Blanca, the monster.
- 46:06It's like, what did they do to you, man? It's
- 46:09like, help me. He's like, I will. And he just
- 46:11like puts a gun to his head. He's like, waits
- 46:15for a really long time, but he's planning to
- 46:17just kill his friend. There's nothing to try
- 46:20here. I've tried everything. So I'm exhausted
- 46:23all options. No, wait. I gave him 51 % good.
- 46:30I gave him the puppies for like. A solid hour.
- 46:35One second longer than the murder shit. He's
- 46:38like, all right, all right. Okay, cool. I won't
- 46:40kill my best friend. That's a good point. Thank
- 46:42you. But you have to take him. Yeah. I can't
- 46:44deal with him. He's fucking ugly now. Really.
- 46:47I honestly thought his future was just going
- 46:49to be a puppy murderer. Oh, yeah. He has capacity
- 46:52for good and evil. Like, okay. If we ever get
- 46:57Street Fighter the movie to... Same cast. Yeah,
- 47:01same cast. But based on Street Fighter 3. Well,
- 47:05because this one was based on Street Fighter
- 47:082. Street Fighter the movie based on Street Fighter
- 47:102 the game. So Street Fighter 2 the movie has
- 47:13to be based on like 3? 4? What's different in
- 47:183? I don't remember. I mean 2 is the best one.
- 47:23It's the only one I know. Because it also had
- 47:27like 7 different releases. Everyone's just sprinkling
- 47:32in a new character here and there, but nothing
- 47:34else really changed. Maybe a couple graphics
- 47:36updates, but yeah. So he attempts to just fucking
- 47:41murk Blanka and gets shut down by Dhalsim. Did
- 47:46we even ever see... Yeah, Dhalsim does stretch
- 47:48at one point. Does he? No. He did not have a
- 47:52single stretch? I thought he had a stretch. I
- 47:54thought there was some... I didn't even know
- 47:56he was an actual... I guess if we couldn't have
- 47:59a Hadouken, we probably can't have a Stretch
- 48:01Armstrong. There was an E. Honda slap scene at
- 48:05some point, I feel like. I mean, because as a
- 48:08kid, that's what you're just like, give me their
- 48:11moves. I just want a sequence of scenes leading
- 48:14to people doing the moves. Yeah, that's what
- 48:16I wanted this week. Yeah, honestly, I was a little
- 48:19disappointed. But it did make up for it in a
- 48:22lot of ways, yeah. So Fortress starts self -destructing
- 48:25because somebody just knocked over an elbow and
- 48:30hit the self -destruct button. So Fortress self
- 48:35-destructs. DJ and Sagat run off with their chest
- 48:38full of money, which once they're on a boat turns
- 48:42out to be bison bucks, so kind of screwed there.
- 48:45Five British pounds each. For probably the lot
- 48:48of it. all the allied nation soldiers get together
- 48:53and they're all like oh guile didn't make it
- 48:56but then he comes out after an explosion like
- 48:59classic uh cammy was crying because she's horny
- 49:03and nobody else cared i think they hugged and
- 49:07then they all like posed oh my gosh they really
- 49:13did hit that pose at the end they really did
- 49:15did you see the after credits scene uh at some
- 49:21point, probably, but I haven't cared. Amazon
- 49:24switched me off immediately and started playing
- 49:27Major Pain. You got Major Pain? That's what it
- 49:32suggested would be the best follow -up. This
- 49:35one was so friggin' stupid, and I absolutely
- 49:38love it. So, like, okay, credits roll, and then
- 49:41you meet, like, some, like, underground ruins,
- 49:48basically, just absolute rubble. And then, you
- 49:52know, it's like basically a very slow powering
- 49:56on of Bison's systems. It's all like, and then
- 49:59it starts, you know, rejuvenating him, doing
- 50:02the whole, you know, thing. And then he's all
- 50:05like, I'm back online. What do I do now? And
- 50:08then it's like, it shows his options on the computer
- 50:12screen. And it's like. file open save undo world
- 50:18domination oh my god i freaking love that i yeah
- 50:27that is that is it is a crime there was no sequel
- 50:32yeah i mean boy that's rough like even if there
- 50:36was enough hype about this movie to get a sequel
- 50:40Just like knowing, well, you just teased that
- 50:43there could be more bison, but there can be no
- 50:46bison. Yeah. He was amazing in that. No, he was
- 50:52great. Yeah. Terrific actor. There's so many
- 50:55different things that happen in the movie and
- 50:57they're so kind of just disconnected. They just
- 51:00kind of happen in sequence. I was like trying
- 51:04to follow it for a while and then kind of realized
- 51:06actually just shut up. It's mostly a let it go.
- 51:11There's some weird things that are in this film
- 51:13that like I noticed and like would have to like
- 51:16kind of look up like in the Bison Chung Lee cocktail
- 51:21scene when it pans across this room and there's
- 51:24that clown dictator painting. It's like a direct.
- 51:29like, homage to Gacy's Pogo the Clown, the way
- 51:32it's painted, but in M. Bison clothing. Oh, damn.
- 51:37Just, uh, that's weird. Weird reference. Yeah.
- 51:42I enjoy that, uh, Bison is an ableist and makes
- 51:47fun of Sagat's missing eye. I really... Yeah,
- 51:50he went hard. Yeah, he's like a real dickhead.
- 51:52He's like, oh, you didn't see that? But it's
- 51:56so mean. It's like, you didn't see it. It's like,
- 51:59really driving it home. Yeah. And, uh, I mean,
- 52:03like, I could justify this, but, like, in Washington,
- 52:07it's like, why the fuck is there a giant bell
- 52:09inside of Bison's command center? Like, twice
- 52:12they throw somebody into it, so you get the,
- 52:14like, head gonging sound. It's like, okay, sure,
- 52:16it was a temple once upon a time, but, like,
- 52:19that's fucking weird. Yeah. Like, if I was setting
- 52:21up a, like, command center, that's a lot of real
- 52:24estate. I'd get that out of here. question though
- 52:27what was the floating platform for i mean it
- 52:31seemed like they spent a lot of money on that
- 52:33floating platform i don't know if it had a reason
- 52:36other than to kind of i think it was just really
- 52:38into superconductors yeah floating doctors it
- 52:41is really cool i think it's like he was getting
- 52:44a little sidetracked from his world domination
- 52:46thing and it's like you know what i bet i could
- 52:48do i bet i could make superconductors work and
- 52:52make them make me fly I don't know. I figure
- 52:55if you're going to be a top -tier dictator and
- 53:00world dominator, you need something to set you
- 53:04apart early on. What's better than floating above
- 53:08your troops and yelling down at them with your
- 53:12joystick commands and everything? I mean, look
- 53:15at everybody else who's ever had it. Eggman or
- 53:18Professor whatever from Sonic. He had a floating
- 53:21platform. He did. He had a floating platform.
- 53:25Koopa had a floating platform. Emperor Palpatine
- 53:29floating platform. Everybody in the Senate did.
- 53:32I do like to lord over people. I see the appeal.
- 53:36Exactly. Float over a hostage pit. It feels good.
- 53:41You want some food down there? Just drop it on
- 53:44them. Sprinkles like they're pigeons. Pigeons
- 53:48who've had their... White feathers clipped. You
- 53:52guys, you know how much it made? I don't know
- 53:56shit about any of this. They fucking made this
- 53:58movie for $35 million. What? Seems like a lot.
- 54:01That's so much money. $35 million, 1994 dollars.
- 54:06That's a poor choice on your part. It did gross,
- 54:09like globally, 99 .4. So, it pulled in a lot
- 54:14of money. Nobody liked it, but it made a lot
- 54:17of money. uh would you kind of like uh i guess
- 54:20made everybody believe that yeah we can make
- 54:23movies about comic books and uh video games and
- 54:27all these other little franchises there's a there's
- 54:30a market out there when did the mortal kombat
- 54:33movie come out in really like was this same year
- 54:36or like one year later so this was the uh the
- 54:40impetus the inciting incident that's pretty cool
- 54:44Is this actually like the first video game movie
- 54:47or something? Probably not like the first, but
- 54:50it was the first like big one that I can remember.
- 54:55Or Mario, like when did Mario? Oh, Mario came
- 54:58out later. Okay. Yeah, you know, I think we've
- 55:03got it. The only thing I really noted otherwise,
- 55:07aside from, I guess, once the actors found out
- 55:11about like the... massage parlors in the area.
- 55:16A lot of actors were taking off multiple times
- 55:18a day to go get work done. Oh my god. So that
- 55:21became a problem. There were a lot of production
- 55:23problems between cocaine and... This is amazing.
- 55:25Like, hand jobs. I need a new career. And adultery,
- 55:28and... What have I been doing with my life? Yeah.
- 55:32He was just pumping his muscles. I don't know
- 55:35what he was doing. Probably just cocaine. Pumping
- 55:37his muscles, yeah. Yeah. Cocaine. Whacking off.
- 55:41Kylie Minogue. I mean, take your pick. His fucking
- 55:44fourth wife, the one he just married and was
- 55:48having a kid with, is also in the movie. She's
- 55:52in a scene. Whoa. Like, I can't remember if it's
- 55:54the little, like, movie that they pop in. Like,
- 55:58why the fuck is there a cassette player inside
- 56:01of the... Oh, in the... It's not a cassette player,
- 56:03but like a... In the stealth boat, yeah, yeah.
- 56:05In the boat, and that's the perfect time to just
- 56:08toss it. It's like, I don't have a lot to do
- 56:10right now. But his wife's in like a cafe scene
- 56:13or something, like seated there with some other
- 56:15characters. And it's like, ugh. How many wives
- 56:17has Jean -Claude Van Damme had in his romantic?
- 56:20I mean, if the over -under was four and a half,
- 56:23I'd say over. I would definitely say over. I
- 56:26would definitely say fourth was not. Wow, what
- 56:28a life. Last, yeah. Yeah, I don't think that
- 56:30one made it too far. Fourth wife, third kid.
- 56:33I looked up Jean -Claude Van Damme. Never played
- 56:37a character named Nick. Raul Julia played somebody
- 56:41named Nick in Street Kill. Ming -Na Wen, never
- 56:44played in Nick. Damien Chapa, Ken, played in
- 56:49Nick in Enemy Within and Love, Hate, and Security.
- 56:53Ryu, never in Nick. Kami, she was in a music
- 56:58video with Nick Cave. That's pretty Nick adjacent.
- 57:01That's close. Sorry, in the cave. Yeah. Cigar,
- 57:07basically. He played a Nick in an episode of
- 57:10something called Launchpad and something called
- 57:11The Roof, which was a short. DJ was a Nick in
- 57:16a movie called Clue. C -L -E -W. Wow. Yeah, I
- 57:21don't know what that's about. Oh, Balrog. Do
- 57:26you know what his, like, the actor's name is?
- 57:29His name is Grand L. Bush. What? Yes. That is
- 57:35amazing. Oh, man. He played a Nick once in something
- 57:38called Hagen. And Blanca was a Nick in Satisfaction.
- 57:42So we've got quite a few extra Nicks in here,
- 57:44too. And I just thought it was important to look
- 57:46that up. Or oops, I'll mix. Just that they had
- 57:49so many other roles besides this. The fact that
- 57:54they got it. That additional work. I'd make a
- 58:01movie like this if they would let me. I would
- 58:04let you. I don't have $35 million, but I might
- 58:07have $35. It's a start. Awesome. Let's just do
- 58:12the... If you can add in the cocaine and massage
- 58:17parlors, I can swing that. Well, they're getting
- 58:21pretty hard on the massage parlors here in Seattle
- 58:23right now. They've been busting a lot of them,
- 58:25but... Busting. But I don't know, maybe like
- 58:33$35 worth of cocaine, that's not going to get
- 58:35us too far either. Maybe I can get you a bump
- 58:39and a handy, but... Good enough. All right, let's
- 58:43film it. So this has been my dream of talking
- 58:48about Street Fighter with a bunch of Knicks.
- 58:50I really enjoyed having all these Knicks with
- 58:52me. Nick, thank you for coming. My pleasure.
- 58:55I was talking to Nick. I'm sorry. I was looking
- 58:58at you, but I was talking to Nick. Nick, thank
- 58:59you. Yeah, I'm glad I made the time. Yeah, and
- 59:03we're really pleased to have you here, Nick.
- 59:06Your time's done. okay but yeah it was a total
- 59:13pleasure i mean any chance to revisit street
- 59:16fighter yeah always gotta take it awesome so
- 59:19closing word everybody we uh how do you feel
- 59:22about this movie i think everybody loves it shockingly
- 59:25good i i had a really good time with it awesome
- 59:30well me too more people need to do cocaine yeah
- 59:36in their films. So, yeah. I think that's a stance
- 59:39that this podcast has been very firmly, like,
- 59:42on. It's like... Yeah. In general, yeah. Yeah.
- 59:50Bye. Bye.
