Transcript
- 0:00Katie: In this episode, you will discover the one grounding practice that gets you out of your head, back into your body, and into the exact nervous system state your fertility needs.
- 0:14Welcome to the Finally Get Pregnant Naturally podcast, the podcast helping women identify the real reasons you haven't conceived or stayed pregnant so you and your partner can finally grow the family of your dreams.
- 0:28I'm your host, Dr.
- 0:29Katie Wood.
- 0:30Let's dive in, shall we?
- 0:33Katie: Three things you'll gain from today's episode: why living in your head is not just a personality trait, it is a nervous system state that directly affects your fertility.
- 0:44Katie: Why coming back into your body is the energetic counterpart to everything we talked about on this past Tuesday's episode, covering the high-achieving override habit.
- 0:56Katie: And a simple three-part grounding practice you can do anywhere, anytime that creates the internal safety signal your body needs to prioritize reproduction So let's talk about, as women, why is it so common for us to live in our
- 1:15Katie: heads?
- 1:16Katie: Raise your hand if you know what I mean, if you know what I'm talking about.
- 1:21Katie: There is a habit that most high-achieving women carry into their fertility journey that nobody wants to name.
- 1:28Katie: We talked about it on Tuesday's episode, number 259, so feel free to listen to it after this for more context because today is the other side of that conversation.
- 1:39Katie: It's the practice that is the energetic antidote to everything the habit of overriding your body's signals can do to your fertility.
- 1:49Katie: So here's what I want you to understand.
- 1:52Katie: Living in your head is not a personality quirk.
- 1:55Katie: It is a learned nervous system state.
- 1:58Katie: And a nervous system that lives predominantly in the mind, planning, analyzing, optimizing, solving, is a nervous system that is predominantly in a sympathetic mode, in a fight or flight mode, right?
- 2:13Katie: Always on high alert, always scanning, processing, all of which keeps your cortisol levels elevated, blood flow directed away from your reproductive organs, and your body in a state that quietly deprioritizes conception.
- 2:32Katie: And somewhere along the way, your body became a vehicle you manage rather than a home that you steward and live in.
- 2:43Katie: You respond to it when it interrupts you.
- 2:46Katie: You override it when it inconveniences you.
- 2:49Katie: And there's a saying that goes, "If you don't make time for your wellness, you will be forced to make time for your illness."
- 2:59Katie: And the moment to moment experience of actually being in your body, feeling it, trusting it, receiving the information that it is sending you, that has become unfamiliar territory.
- 3:16Katie: Coming back into your body is not a wellness practice.
- 3:22Katie: It is a direct fertility intervention, and here is how you do it.
- 3:28Katie: So your weekly fertility prescription, three steps in under three minutes You can do this standing, sitting, or lying down.
- 3:39Katie: You can do it at your desk before a meeting, in the car before you walk into an appointment, in the bathroom during a hard day.
- 3:47Katie: It does not require a setup.
- 3:49Katie: It only requires 30 seconds of willingness to drop out of your head and into your body.
- 3:55Katie: So step one, feel five things you can physically sense right now.
- 4:03Katie: Not think about, feel in your body.
- 4:06Katie: So this could be the weight of your feet on the floor, the temperature of the air on your skin, the pressure of whatever you're sitting or standing on, the fabric of your clothes, the rhythm of your own breath.
- 4:22Katie: Just notice them.
- 4:23Katie: Name them quietly in your mind.
- 4:26Katie: This is called a sensory anchor, and it is one of the fastest evidence-based methods for interrupting a sympathetic nervous system activation and beginning to shift toward a parasympathetic mode, or also known as our rest and digest mode.
- 4:44Katie: Step two, place one hand on your lower belly, your womb space, and breathe into it.
- 4:52Katie: We're not breathing into our chest.
- 4:55Katie: Your belly.
- 4:57Katie: Let your belly expand on the inhale, and if you want, you can even visualize it expanding with light and warmth, and then let it gently fall on the exhale.
- 5:11Katie: Make the exhale longer than the inhale, even just by two counts.
- 5:16Katie: Do this three times.
- 5:17Katie: You are activating your vagus nerve, shifting your heart rate variability, and directing your attention and your breath to your reproductive center.
- 5:28Katie: You are telling your body that you are here, that what your body needs matters, that you are paying attention.
- 5:37Katie: Step three, say one true thing to your body.
- 5:43Katie: Out loud if you can.
- 5:44Katie: In your mind if you can't, that's totally fine.
- 5:47Katie: Something real, showing gratitude, something kind, something that is not fake or a performance.
- 5:57Katie: Maybe it is, "I'm here," or, "I'm listening now," or it could simply be, "Thank you for everything you do for me."
- 6:08Katie: Whatever is true for you today.
- 6:10Katie: And if you can't think of anything, because maybe these things don't feel true to you, maybe it's just, "I'm trying my best."
- 6:20Katie: And then just stay there for one or two more breaths, whatever feels good for you.
- 6:24Katie: Stay here as long as you want before you move on.
- 6:28Katie: That's the whole practice.
- 6:30Katie: Five sensory anchors, three belly breaths, and state one true thing that you're grateful for in under three minutes.
- 6:40Katie: I really highly recommend and invite you to do this once a day this week, and maybe it'll become a totally new practice and habit for you.
- 6:48Katie: Ideally at the same time, so it starts to become a signal that your nervous system recognizes and responds to.
- 6:55Katie: Because your body has been waiting for you to come back, and this is exactly how you do it.
- 7:01Katie: And if you are listening to this podcast, I need you to hear this.
- 7:06Katie: I know so far you feel like you've done everything right.
- 7:09Katie: You eat clean, you track everything, you've asked all the right questions, done everything your doctor recommended, and still you're not pregnant or you struggle to stay pregnant and no one can tell you why.
- 7:25Katie: So you keep going.
- 7:26Katie: Another cycle, another supplement, another expert, another month of piecing it together alone, hoping that every new strategy will be the thing that finally works.
- 7:39Katie: And the hardest part isn't the effort.
- 7:42Katie: You've never been afraid of effort.
- 7:45Katie: It's that for the first time, effort isn't enough, and no one will actually look deeper to tell you what's really going on.
- 7:52Katie: You are not missing something obvious.
- 7:55Katie: What you've been offered so far by your doctor is.
- 7:58Katie: And that's exactly why I built Decode Your Fertility, the exact root cause fertility testing framework I use with my private clients.
- 8:08Katie: Everything a conventional fertility workup misses.
- 8:12Katie: Finally, in a DIY program designed to get you personalized answers and action steps.
- 8:19Katie: This testing isn't available to the general public, and for the first time, you can get access to it without working with me one-on-one.
- 8:28Katie: Doors officially open this fall, and I'm giving my waitlist ladies early access with benefits, if you know what I mean.
