Transcript
- 0:08Speaker 1: All advice. Welcome to the weekend edition of the Naughty
- 0:17Speaker 1: but Nice Podcast. I'm Rob Shooter. You know me as
- 0:20Speaker 1: a gossip columnist, as an entertainment reporter journalist, but what
- 0:25Speaker 1: you might not know is I'm also a best selling
- 0:28Speaker 1: author and also an expert in motivation change habits. So
- 0:35Speaker 1: for ten minutes on the weekend, we're going to stay
- 0:37Speaker 1: away from celebrity gossip and focus on really the biggest
- 0:41Speaker 1: star in your life, which is you. Today's topic is
- 0:46Speaker 1: going to be how to stop those old cruel habits
- 0:52Speaker 1: from returning. So the reason we give up on our
- 0:56Speaker 1: summer diets, the big plans we have to change our lives, well,
- 1:01Speaker 1: maybe even the New Year's Eve resolutions, it's already what February,
- 1:06Speaker 1: the end of February. Have you already given up on those?
- 1:11Speaker 1: The reason we do this is it is much easier
- 1:15Speaker 1: to go back to living the old way than to
- 1:20Speaker 1: live the new way and make a change. Change is hard.
- 1:26Speaker 1: Let me say that again. Change is hard, and the
- 1:30Speaker 1: minute I focus shifts, old habits come rushing back. We're
- 1:38Speaker 1: all basically creatures of habit, designed to find comfort in
- 1:44Speaker 1: our daily routines, which is why before long without putting
- 1:49Speaker 1: up much of a fight at all. The new game
- 1:52Speaker 1: is over and the old game and old behavior wins.
- 1:58Speaker 1: Your gym membership has expired. You forgot what a vegetable
- 2:02Speaker 1: even looks like, and you'd rather stay home and watch
- 2:06Speaker 1: TV then get dressed up and go out. This is
- 2:11Speaker 1: why we have to remain focused and alert. If you
- 2:16Speaker 1: don't want to drift back into your old ways, you
- 2:21Speaker 1: cannot allow your mind to drift, not for a minute.
- 2:26Speaker 1: You need to constantly remind yourself. I'm talking every day
- 2:30Speaker 1: here that you are making a choice, and if you
- 2:34Speaker 1: are not choosing it, you are not changing it. Making
- 2:40Speaker 1: no decision at all is actually making a really big decision.
- 2:44Speaker 1: You're making a choice. You're choosing to sit on the
- 2:46Speaker 1: couch rather than go for a walk. You're choosing to
- 2:50Speaker 1: scroll through your Instagram rather than text a friend that
- 2:54Speaker 1: you haven't seen in a while. You are choosing to
- 2:58Speaker 1: eat junk junk food instead of food that you know
- 3:03Speaker 1: will nourish your body. The only one with the power
- 3:07Speaker 1: to decide to change your life or to continue with
- 3:12Speaker 1: the status quo is you. Behavior Good and bad begins
- 3:18Speaker 1: with the choices we make every single day. So don't
- 3:23Speaker 1: wait until New Year's Eve to start over. Don't wait
- 3:30Speaker 1: for the summer to get that beach body, and don't
- 3:33Speaker 1: wait for tomorrow to go after your dreams every single day.
- 3:39Speaker 1: I used to be one of those people that made
- 3:41Speaker 1: endless to do lists, and then I found endless excuses
- 3:46Speaker 1: for why I should wait until tomorrow. Of course, tomorrow
- 3:51Speaker 1: never came. But now, instead of doing that, I've thrown
- 3:55Speaker 1: away the lists and instead I've decided to replace stem
- 4:00Speaker 1: by action. I think of my life as a TV
- 4:04Speaker 1: show broken down into hour long episodes. Try to do
- 4:09Speaker 1: this with your life. If you do, then that means
- 4:12Speaker 1: you start every hour like it's a new episode, like
- 4:16Speaker 1: you've changed the channel. It's a little trick I've invented,
- 4:20Speaker 1: developed to make sure I no longer procrastinate. Each hour
- 4:25Speaker 1: is a new beginning. I don't wait for New Year's
- 4:28Speaker 1: Eve for once a year. I don't wait for tomorrow
- 4:31Speaker 1: that could be twenty four hours away. No, every hour
- 4:34Speaker 1: in my life is a new beginning, and the ruts
- 4:38Speaker 1: I used to fall into throughout the day now can
- 4:41Speaker 1: no longer last more than sixty minutes. When you make
- 4:44Speaker 1: the decision to reset your life, every single hour, you
- 4:48Speaker 1: give yourself so many more chances to make sure the
- 4:52Speaker 1: old habits don't win. Refocus at the top of every
- 4:57Speaker 1: hour and just see how you will accomplish. You're going
- 5:02Speaker 1: to be really surprised by this. Jane Fonda said the
- 5:05Speaker 1: following quote, It's never too late to start over and
- 5:10Speaker 1: never too late to be happy. Let's start doing it
- 5:14Speaker 1: right now. Let's start being happy today. Attack each hour
- 5:19Speaker 1: with the same enthusiasm that you attack the beginning of
- 5:24Speaker 1: each day. Remember, when you change your decisions, you change
- 5:29Speaker 1: your life. Nobody is coming to do it for you. Nobody,
- 5:34Speaker 1: nobody is out there who is coming to change your life.
- 5:38Speaker 1: You have to do it. And the way you do
- 5:40Speaker 1: it is by staying focused and stop those cruel habits
- 5:45Speaker 1: the moment they start creeping back in and taking over
- 5:50Speaker 1: your life. Remember, the only person you need to make
- 5:53Speaker 1: sure that you don't disappoint is yourself. I love this
- 5:58Speaker 1: quote from Witherspoon. She said, all those things that you're
- 6:03Speaker 1: worried about are not important. You're going to be okay,
- 6:08Speaker 1: better than okay, you're going to be great. Spend less
- 6:14Speaker 1: time tearing yourself apart worrying if you're good enough. You
- 6:19Speaker 1: are good enough and You're going to meet amazing people
- 6:23Speaker 1: in your life who will help you and love you.
- 6:28Speaker 1: Thank you, Rhes. We have a choice about what we
- 6:32Speaker 1: do and don't do every single day. Make sure you
- 6:37Speaker 1: are choosing kindness because kindness will change your life. Kindness
- 6:42Speaker 1: and success are not just linked, they are interwined. I
- 6:47Speaker 1: found this out the hard way. Let me explain, without kindness,
- 6:52Speaker 1: you cannot find real success, and without real success, it's
- 6:58Speaker 1: almost impossible to find kindness. Because real kindness is real success,
- 7:05Speaker 1: and real success is kindness. So let me reveal one
- 7:11Speaker 1: of the greatest secrets of your life. Success and happiness
- 7:16Speaker 1: start with becoming kind to yourself. I think kindness might
- 7:21Speaker 1: be the number one attribute in a human being. I
- 7:25Speaker 1: put it before many other things, courage, bravery, generosity. If
- 7:31Speaker 1: you're kind, that is it. My friends. Let's all be
- 7:36Speaker 1: kind to ourselves and others today and focus remain laser
- 7:42Speaker 1: focused so that we make sure those all bad habits
- 7:47Speaker 1: don't start creeping back. Try the TV episode rule. Let
- 7:54Speaker 1: me know if it works. What is it like looking
- 7:57Speaker 1: at your phone at the clock and every three hour
- 8:00Speaker 1: starting over? What is that like? It's going to change
- 8:05Speaker 1: your life? Hey, I hope you enjoyed listening. I love
- 8:09Speaker 1: doing these short podcasts on the weekend. I love my
- 8:12Speaker 1: life as a gossip columnist, as an entertainment reporter, but
- 8:16Speaker 1: I have such a passion about our work together too
- 8:19Speaker 1: on the weekends. You make it as a rewarding for
- 8:22Speaker 1: me as you do for yourself. So thank you, thank you,
- 8:26Speaker 1: thank you, And remember, if you're going to be naughty,
- 8:30Speaker 1: we've got to be. It's not even nice with Rah
