- Luke Pollock: Hello, welcome back to the Uplift Podcast. I'm your host, Luke, and today we are on episode 28, 29, maybe. I don't know. Quite a few episodes. We're in August, and I was actually just listening back to my early episodes back in January, and they were pretty funny to listen back to. Hopefully I've got a lot better in a short space of time, in seven months, which isn't that short space of time, but I feel that I've got a lot better. I mean, listened back to myself. But It was good time for reflection and just thinking about what the last few months have thrown at me. And it's not gonna be one of these podcasts that's like, my life has changed so much business wise in the last six months. You need to get started. It's gonna be a bit more of a reality check and and a bit of realism with you, my dear listeners, today that I wanna give you. And to be honest, this week has not been the most fun week. business wise. It's probably been like one of the toughest weeks I've had in a little in a long while, actually. And I hate listening to people sap on podcasts. It's like my least favorite thing ever. So just bear with me while I dive a little bit deep and then I will dig myself out of the trench as we go. But yeah, this week I have just been in a slightly negative headspace around it. Around the business, around content creation, around what the future looks like for the business, etc. And this I want to share with you because when I started the podcast, when I was listening back, I said, I'm starting this podcast to sort of share my journey along, like starting my own business and my own personal brand and how that's going. And I would rather be honest with my my future self who will be listening to this this week, sucked. Okay. And kind of start I know it's only Wednesday, but the start of the week sucked. Wednesday's been a turning point for sure. But sometimes it is hard. And in the early stage it's hard. And when you have more followers and you have more clients, you think it's gonna be easier and it's always going to be rosy. But that is not the case. And when I have more followers and more clients in six months time, I know I will still have bad weeks and bad days. but it's just Important that we recognize them for what they are and not trying to shun them away and say, we can never have a bad day or a bad week. We absolutely can. And in every job in the world and in every business in the world, you will have bad days and bad weeks. And a lot of it actually hasn't been from myself me thinking about what I I'm thinking. It's me thinking about what other people are thinking about me, which is none of my business, right? I love that quote. Other people's opinions of you are none of your business. That's what I've been telling myself today and yesterday. Other people's opinions of you are none of your business. It's none of my business what that physio thinks of me. It's none of my business what my secret hate watchers are thinking of me. It's actually none of my business. Let them let them watch. Let them have their opinions. yeah, that's none of my business. And the more you tell yourself that and the less time and thought you give it, the better. And even when I'm I think it's a it's a byproduct of getting more followers and more traction that you start to hear people have different opinions. And when you're already in a bit of like a I can't really be bothered to make content, it's just like a a nail on the side being like, Yeah, I really no, I can't be bothered to make content. But we still do it anyway. I've still put out three bits of content this week every day. because no matter how I'm feeling, I think it's important just to keep the process the same, stay in process, just keep it the same. don't let your feelings dictate your actions too much. that's that's kind of how I've been approaching this week in this business and it's working so far. I've actually had a really productive week work-wise. So yeah, that's a little bit of the sap over. I'm sorry about that. Today I gave a workshop in Train Yard for the strength coaches there. And it was really enjoyable just to deliver some knowledge and information across in like a very light hearted, not serious way. And I think they found it beneficial. So I'm gonna run through some of the thoughts I had post that and during it. So this will be helpful for athletes and coaches alike. And ultimately, the overriding thing I tried to get across to the coaches was we can't just keep telling our coat our clients to do less and avoid pain and avoid the exercise. I will try and get my clients to avoid pain, but they have to move their body in. ways that maybe they don't feel comfortable moving in. So one of the coaches asked about like a deep squat. Should if if a client gets pain in a deep squat, should we explore that range anyway? And I my answer to that would be like let's not let's not remind them what that pain feels like, but let's explore the ranges around that. Do they get pain in like a high wall set? we still want to stimulate some response for that client or for that athlete. And I think it's just getting across that we we don't want to avoid these situations for long enough because they will brew and brew and get worse and worse. And it's the same with like my negative headspace and anything. It's the same in anything in life. If you don't address the problem head on and be like, this is a problem. This isn't normal. Let's address it and let's try and do something about it rather than I'm just going to put this to one side and hope it works itself out. Very, very rarely does. Which then sort of gets me on to some of the content I was creating today. Which and this podcast is gonna be a ten minute ramble, I will tell you that. But some of the the content I was making today was about like just getting a plan and as some of my videos have started to do a little bit better. I'm talking like I've got hundreds of thousands of followers, but as some of them I've started to do a little bit better, I'm getting lots more messages. And the messages normally contain some form of which is the best exercise for me to do, how do I solve this pain? What exercise do I need to be doing? Am I doing the right things? Right. Lots of questions. And understandably so, because you're a normal lay person, you've just got injured. It wasn't really your fault. And now you're in pain. And this physio that you just met on a once office told you to do this exercise. And it doesn't seem to be making a difference at all. I completely get what you mean. Like, how are you supposed to know if this is right or if it's not? And then some guy that comes across your For you, Paige, and it kind of sounds like he knows what he's talking about. So it's worth asking him. Let me take that sweet burden off your shoulders and just tell you that following a plan, any plan, is better than following no plan or doing nothing. Okay. So following a plan is is nine times out of ten, unless it's the worst plan imaginable, is better than following no plan. Okay. Cause you're just gonna get worse. So Not making a decision is still making a decision. So I would say to those people, just commit to something. You'll quickly find out if it's working, if it's making you feel better or worse in the short term. And then you can adjust on the fly. And I think way too many ACLers in particular, something about the ACL group, they get very, very worried about timelines and specific exercises. So is it normal that I feel this at this time? And what specific exercise can I do at this time? And they just actually need to keep the head down and keep following a plan. And I think a lot of this comes from the physio as well. Like we don't, as a physio, you need to to give that that client or that athlete a good enough plan and the reason behind that plan that they should and the reasoning behind that plan that they should understand. So they should be bought in. To me, when I'm getting these messages, I'm thinking your physioclinician has done a per job. Okay, because they don't understand why they're doing an exercise, they're not feeling the benefit of it, and they can't communicate with you the issues. So they're communicating to me around the person on the internet that they've never met. Okay. So you need to have a plan that you're understanding and you're both bought into. You and your physio have discussed it, it makes sense. You can see how it's gonna take you from this place that you are in now, maybe two weeks post SEL, to back to playing rug beer football. You can see the the key role that it plays. That's very important. So my recent clients who are trying to regain extension, I hope that they know why extension's important. Okay. And it's something I want to build in more and more into my coaching business is can I give them more education? 'Cause education is par and education will take off so much of the mental load that ACLs and other injured people carry out. Carry around with themselves. If they're educated on the problem, they will not have to ask themselves as many questions in a day that they don't have the answer to. So yeah, that's that's my recent thoughts. This week's been tough business-wise, content-wise. Like when you're feeling a bit rubbish in of yourself, the last thing you want to do is pick up a camera and start making content and putting yourself further out there, even though that's the exact thing you should do. Okay. And I talked last week about resistance, and I love that idea that. The thing you're avoiding is actually the thing you should do. And other people's opinion are none, is none of your business. That those are two things. And if you just held on to those, if I just held on to those, you'd make all the progress in the world that you wanted. Right. If you ran into the things that felt uncomfortable and the resistance you were feeling, whether that's in your rehab, well, don't actually run into the too much pain in your rehab, but you know what I mean, the psychological things that you're avoiding or and you also ignored what other people were thinking of you, you'd make a lot of progress. You'd probably get everything you wanted in out of this content game, out of this business game, out of your sport. so yeah, that's sort of all I've got for you today. A nice, short, sharp one, but I'm just fulfilling showing up every Wednesday, apart from the Wednesday of my wedding and my honeymoon, every Wednesday in twenty twenty six, practicing this public speaking thing, sharing my thoughts. These are all episodes I plan to look back on in the future. And say, remember in August 26 when I was living in London and I was struggling that week with my business. I wish I could be back there. Maybe I'll be saying that. Maybe I won't. Hey, who knows? so yeah, I'm gonna go see the eclipse now because that's happening tonight. I hope you all have a really, really good week. I hope you've enjoyed my ten minute ramble. And if you've got any questions, if you need ACL online rehab, follow me at LookPollo. I am Gonna be pumping out more and more content. I'm gonna get into my content plan with you all. I'm gonna get into the nitty-gritty. And I've been hot on AI systems in the back. So I'm gonna do an AI podcast where I just talk about how I'm using AI in my business, which is not for programming or for content, but it's for more of the back end stuff. And then I'm also gonna do a podcast. What was the other thing I just said? on my content plan for the rest of the year and and what I'm planning to do to to be at ten thousand followers and beyond the vanity metrics. but yeah, here we go. have a really good week. I'm gonna go see the eclipse. follow and leave a five-star review. Thank you very much. Ciao.
