- 0:50Speaker 1: Today, we're going to dive in again to the heart of podcasting itself.
- 0:54Speaker 1: How do you determine your podcast topic?
- 0:56Speaker 1: Choosing a topic for your podcast is one of the most important decisions you'll make.
- 1:01Speaker 1: It is the foundation of your show.
- 1:03Speaker 1: It's what's going to draw listeners in and keep them coming back for more.
- 1:07Speaker 1: So how do you make that crucial choice?
- 1:09Speaker 1: Well, let's start with one word Passion.
- 1:14Speaker 1: I want you to choose a topic that you're passionate about.
- 1:19Speaker 1: Why?
- 1:19Speaker 1: Because podcasting is a long-term commitment.
- 1:23Speaker 1: Your excitement about the topic will not only shine through in your content, make it more engaging for your listeners, but it's also going to fuel your commitment when the going gets tough And, trust me, the going gets tough.
- 1:35Speaker 1: I can't remember how many times I was just tired and wanted to stop, but I can remember my first podcast, when I was tired.
- 1:43Speaker 1: I wanted to stop and I did stop.
- 1:45Speaker 1: So again, there's something to think about.
- 1:47Speaker 1: But passion is crucial, right, but it's not the only factor.
- 1:52Speaker 1: You really need to consider your target audience.
- 1:55Speaker 1: Who do you want to reach with your podcast?
- 1:57Speaker 1: What are their interests?
- 1:59Speaker 1: What problems can you help them solve?
- 2:01Speaker 1: What value are you bringing to their lives?
- 2:05Speaker 1: That's one of my favorite things Value you are bringing right.
- 2:09Speaker 1: So that brings us to our main point for today Finding the balance between niche and broad topics.
- 2:15Speaker 1: A niche topic can help you stand out in the crowded podcast landscape and build a loyal audience.
- 2:20Speaker 1: A broad topic, on the other hand, can offer a wider range of content, ideas and a larger potential audience.
- 2:26Speaker 1: So where do you find that balance?
- 2:29Speaker 1: So I recommend that you start niche And I don't mean super niche like baking chocolate chip cookies, right, because that's a little bit crazy, you don't.
- 2:41Speaker 1: You want to make sure that there's enough content that you can talk about 20 to 30 episodes on a certain topic right Before you break out.
- 2:52Speaker 1: But if you start niche and you start focused into what your passion is, then you can go ahead and broaden as you grow.
- 2:59Speaker 1: This allows you to initially focus on a specific topic or audience, making it easier to create targeted, valuable content.
- 3:07Speaker 1: Then, as you establish your voice in your audience, you can gradually expand your scope, right, and it can include some related topics.
- 3:17Speaker 1: It's not necessarily off track, right, but it can help you add value to your audience.
- 3:24Speaker 1: So think about I'm trying to think about some of the YouTube channels that my husband watches and he does a lot on car work and car restoration.
- 3:36Speaker 1: So if you were to do a topic related to welding right or welding in this, you know smokers for lack of a better idea there, you might eventually expand into broader topics related to welding other welding, vehicles, welding you know pretty much anything, right, so you can do things on interviewing the people related to history or notable figures in the field of welding.
- 4:11Speaker 1: Or you know mindset, or you know breathing and zen.
- 4:17Speaker 1: Before it you could bring in people doctors related to the exposure that welding has and why safety equipment is so important.
- 4:25Speaker 1: There's a million different ways that you can go if your topic is welding right.
- 4:31Speaker 1: So don't think too narrow, but you also don't want to be too broad.
- 4:37Speaker 1: So you know, think about your target.
- 4:39Speaker 1: Are you targeting the hobbyist or the professional, right?
- 4:43Speaker 1: That's going to be a difference.
- 4:45Speaker 1: That's really going to fuel your topics, the level that you're talking about, and things like that.
- 4:52Speaker 1: Now, one thing I want you to think about, though, is being niche does not mean necessarily being narrow.
- 4:58Speaker 1: Given with a specialized field, there's a wide range of subtopics to explore.
- 5:04Speaker 1: Being broad doesn't mean being generic.
- 5:07Speaker 1: You can cover a wide range of topics while still providing unique perspectives and valuable insights.
- 5:13Speaker 1: So I suggest that you get started with research.
- 5:17Speaker 1: Look at what's already out there, what's working, what's not, where can you add value and where can you differentiate your podcast?
- 5:25Speaker 1: In the end, determining your podcast topic is about finding that sweet spot where your passion meets your audience's interest and where your unique voice can add value to the conversation.
- 5:35Speaker 1: So, as I wrap up today's episode, i want you to remember this Your podcast topic is your compass.
- 5:42Speaker 1: It's going to guide your topic, it's going to attract your audience and it sets the tone for your show.
- 5:49Speaker 1: Choose it wisely.
- 5:50Speaker 1: Don't be afraid to refine it as you go and as you find opportunities for narrowing in on your passion.
- 6:00Speaker 1: Okay, until next time, i want you to keep pushing the boundaries of perfection and adding your unique voice to the conversation.
- 6:08Speaker 1: Thank you so much for listening, and I'll catch you in the next episode of Imperfect Marketing.
