- 0:00Speaker 1: Hello, my name's Santasha Nabananga Bamblet. I'm a proud yr
- 0:04Speaker 1: the Order, Kernie Whoalbury and a waddery woman. And before
- 0:08Speaker 1: we get started on She's On the Money podcast, I
- 0:11Speaker 1: would like to acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land
- 0:14Speaker 1: of which this podcast is recorded on a wondery country,
- 0:18Speaker 1: acknowledging the elders, the ancestors and the next generation coming through.
- 0:23Speaker 1: As this podcast is about connecting, empowering, knowledge sharing and
- 0:27Speaker 1: the storytelling of you to make a difference for today
- 0:31Speaker 1: and lasting impact for tomorrow.
- 0:33Speaker 2: Let's get into it.
- 0:34Speaker 3: She's on the Money, She's on the Money.
- 0:57Speaker 4: Hello and welcome to the Money, the podcast for millennials
- 1:01Speaker 4: who want financial freedom. Today is Friday, my Friends, which
- 1:06Speaker 4: means it is time to sit back with the girls
- 1:08Speaker 4: with a bevy in hand, to unpack our favorite moments
- 1:10Speaker 4: of the week, and of course, to celebrate you how
- 1:14Speaker 4: incredible She's on the Money community. As always, we're going
- 1:17Speaker 4: to be sharing our favorite money wins, We're going to
- 1:19Speaker 4: discuss what's making news in the finance world, and we'll
- 1:22Speaker 4: be helping to answer a juicy money question, which this week,
- 1:25Speaker 4: unsurprisingly is all about how to protect your data. But
- 1:28Speaker 4: first it is time to recap the week that was,
- 1:30Speaker 4: Miss Jess Garci. You are here with me, but I
- 1:34Speaker 4: get to go first, this time with a summary of
- 1:36Speaker 4: our mandate money diary. So this week we spoke to
- 1:40Speaker 4: obviously a very beautiful community member, but her story was
- 1:44Speaker 4: really really different. So obviously life is not without challenges.
- 1:48Speaker 4: She was managing a chronic health condition, so she had endometriosis,
- 1:52Speaker 4: which I think a lot of people in our community
- 1:54Speaker 4: can really resonate with. And she also works as a teacher.
- 1:58Speaker 4: She is a humanities and social sciences teach, super super passionate.
- 2:02Speaker 4: The one thing that we didn't really cover in that
- 2:04Speaker 4: episode is that the space she works in is more
- 2:07Speaker 4: with disadvantaged children. And on top of that, she was
- 2:10Speaker 4: a director on a board for a non for profit
- 2:12Speaker 4: NDIS service provider, which challenges the status quo for recruitment
- 2:16Speaker 4: in this space. So honestly, she did so much and
- 2:19Speaker 4: it was such a personal story. It was really interesting
- 2:22Speaker 4: to see how she managed her financial life and how
- 2:24Speaker 4: that worked when you're dealing with a chronic illness. So
- 2:27Speaker 4: I feel like that was a story that a lot
- 2:29Speaker 4: of us either resonate with or really sympathize with. So
- 2:32Speaker 4: it was from my perspective, obviously a really good one.
- 2:35Speaker 4: Onto Wednesday, though, it's just greed she what did we
- 2:38Speaker 4: talk about. We're talking about protecting your data. We've had
- 2:41Speaker 4: a lot of that is not how I thought that
- 2:43Speaker 4: you would introduce that, really trotecting your dadda.
- 2:46Speaker 5: It's important. No, a lot of people have been messaging us,
- 2:48Speaker 5: firstly after the Optus breach, which got everybody including me,
- 2:52Speaker 5: and then with Telsha and Woolli's and all of the
- 2:55Speaker 5: other breaches that seemed to be happening at the moment.
- 2:57Speaker 5: I think people are really anxious around protecting their identity
- 3:01Speaker 5: and what could potentially happen with that. So we spoke
- 3:03Speaker 5: through some really tangible steps that you can take to
- 3:06Speaker 5: protect yourself. I think in this day and age, we
- 3:09Speaker 5: might have all gotten a little bit lax with saving
- 3:10Speaker 5: passwords and not changing them and having the same one
- 3:13Speaker 5: for ten different logins, And it's just probably a really
- 3:16Speaker 5: timely reminder for all of us that our data is
- 3:19Speaker 5: really important, and it's not just about like keeping your
- 3:22Speaker 5: Facebook account safe. It's about people literally being able to
- 3:25Speaker 5: defraud you with the information that they can get from
- 3:28Speaker 5: your public profiles and things like that. Yeah, really really
- 3:31Speaker 5: scary stuff. But more on that a little bit later
- 3:33Speaker 5: because we got to touch on it for our money dilemma.
- 3:36Speaker 5: All Right, it's time for our budget direct money wins
- 3:38Speaker 5: and confessions of the week. What have you got for us?
- 3:40Speaker 5: My first one is from Sarah, who said money Win.
- 3:42Speaker 5: A quill cover I've had in my wish list four
- 3:44Speaker 5: months on the Iconic finally went on sale price of
- 3:47Speaker 5: ninety nine dollars, down from two hundred and eighty and
- 3:50Speaker 5: the pillowcases dropped from forty to ten. Completely unexpected and
- 3:53Speaker 5: great timing. As I got my new mattress today. I
- 3:56Speaker 5: feel like that's the best feeling in the world. New mattress,
- 3:59Speaker 5: new sheets, like new life. I never get them all
- 4:01Speaker 5: at the same time, though, Like I feel like that
- 4:05Speaker 5: is the universe just aligning for her so that she
- 4:07Speaker 5: can have the absolute best sleep of her life tonight.
- 4:11Speaker 5: My next one comes from Alex, who says, money Win.
- 4:14Speaker 5: I arrived home from overseas and ordered food from Uber
- 4:17Speaker 5: Eats because I didn't have any groceries after being away
- 4:20Speaker 5: for so long. Relatable delivery guy dropped off the wrong order.
- 4:24Speaker 5: It's somebody else's groceries. I tried calling because I was
- 4:27Speaker 5: really hungry and looking forward to having some comfort food,
- 4:30Speaker 5: but it was too late. Uber Eats refunded me after
- 4:32Speaker 5: I reported the wrong order, so I ended up with
- 4:35Speaker 5: free groceries and a stocked fridge and my twenty five
- 4:37Speaker 5: bucks back. I did have to cook my own dinner, though.
- 4:40Speaker 4: Oh that's the worst. I'd be like, I don't want groceries.
- 4:43Speaker 4: I ordered take out, not groceries. I had that happen recently. Actually,
- 4:47Speaker 4: I ordered Ramen online and I was so excited about
- 4:51Speaker 4: it because I love Ramen and this new place had
- 4:53Speaker 4: popped up on Uber Eats that I hadn't seen before.
- 4:56Speaker 4: And it came deconstructed, like I had to cook the noodles,
- 4:59Speaker 4: and Stephen I was so salty about it. It came
- 5:02Speaker 4: and he's like, oh great, I'll get I'll get dinner
- 5:04Speaker 4: and I'll pop it in a bowl for us. He
- 5:06Speaker 4: brought it to the kitchen and was like Victoria, and
- 5:10Speaker 4: I was like, got the hell And he was like,
- 5:11Speaker 4: what have you ordered? And it was literally like all
- 5:14Speaker 4: of the vegetables had not been cooked. The noodles were
- 5:16Speaker 4: in like some glad wrap wrapped up and they clearly
- 5:19Speaker 4: looked like they were covered in like flower, like they
- 5:21Speaker 4: were fresh. They were gorgeous. After we cooked it, it
- 5:24Speaker 4: was delicious, but I was not You're.
- 5:27Speaker 5: To arrive and then immediately tucked straight in.
- 5:29Speaker 4: Yeah, like it's takeaway. It's not fake away anyway.
- 5:33Speaker 5: Moving on, Oh my gosh, well I have another travel
- 5:35Speaker 5: themed money when. This one from Scooter who said money
- 5:37Speaker 5: Win booked a Ballei holiday through Expedia and got eighty
- 5:41Speaker 5: dollars back on shot back money. When I feel like
- 5:44Speaker 5: everyone's getting ready to travel right now, and if you
- 5:46Speaker 5: are doing your online travel booking, you're not using shot bags.
- 5:50Speaker 4: Where are you?
- 5:51Speaker 5: Where are you? It's free money. It is literally free money.
- 5:55Speaker 5: My next wing comes from Kirsty, who said money Win,
- 5:57Speaker 5: I thought I had around six hundred dollars still owing
- 5:59Speaker 5: on my car finance called up to see how much
- 6:02Speaker 5: I actually had left to play and I could pay
- 6:04Speaker 5: it off that day for forty three dollars, which means
- 6:06Speaker 5: I am now officially debt free. Money Win. We love
- 6:10Speaker 5: to see it. That's so exciting. I feel like maybe
- 6:13Speaker 5: she's been making some extra repayments or something like that
- 6:15Speaker 5: because her numbers were so off. But that's like the
- 6:17Speaker 5: best surprise in the world.
- 6:18Speaker 4: Don't question her numbers, Jessica, That's not what we do
- 6:21Speaker 4: in a money win thread. Like if you say it's exciting,
- 6:24Speaker 4: I am here for the excitement, not to question whether
- 6:26Speaker 4: it's legitimate or not.
- 6:27Speaker 5: We are excited for you. My last win for today
- 6:30Speaker 5: comes from Stella, who said money win. I thought I
- 6:32Speaker 5: had landed my dream job straight out of UNI, but
- 6:35Speaker 5: it didn't end up being the job for me, and
- 6:37Speaker 5: I was devastated. However, I landed another job almost instantly,
- 6:41Speaker 5: got a sixty percent pay rise, and am now on
- 6:44Speaker 5: six figures in the second year of my career. What
- 6:47Speaker 5: if things aren't going well at work, try not to
- 6:49Speaker 5: stress yourself out and take it as big as things
- 6:52Speaker 5: are coming your way. Ps. They also feed me breakfast, lunch,
- 6:55Speaker 5: and dinner in the office. Now I'm in love.
- 6:57Speaker 4: What the heck? I want a new job?
- 6:59Speaker 5: I quit? Yeah?
- 7:00Speaker 4: They you guys never feed me. I just steal cokes
- 7:03Speaker 4: and stuff from the communal fridge. That's all I've got.
- 7:06Speaker 5: We live on coke and sour worms in this office.
- 7:08Speaker 5: So Stella seems like she's winning it life.
- 7:10Speaker 4: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner Like oh, maybe she gets uber eats.
- 7:13Speaker 4: I don't know, not Raman hopefully. All right, that was
- 7:18Speaker 4: probably a really good place to leave it. I probably
- 7:20Speaker 4: am going to go and try and apply for a
- 7:22Speaker 4: job there, because there's nothing good in this office at
- 7:24Speaker 4: this point in time. As always, it has been fantastic
- 7:27Speaker 4: celebrating some of your budget Direct money wins. Budget Direct
- 7:30Speaker 4: winner of can Stell's Insurer of the Year Award twenty
- 7:33Speaker 4: twenty two. Budget Direct Insurance Solved. Let's go to a
- 7:36Speaker 4: really quick break and when we come back, we are
- 7:38Speaker 4: going to be answering a money dilemma and recapping what's
- 7:41Speaker 4: going on in the finance world.
- 7:42Speaker 5: Don't go anywhere, all right, guys. Today it's Black Friday.
- 7:50Speaker 5: I swear it was just Black Friday, like a week ago.
- 7:53Speaker 5: I don't know how it's come around again so quickly.
- 7:55Speaker 5: If you don't know, Black Friday is a holiday that's
- 7:58Speaker 5: started in the US. It's this huge shopping extravaganza where
- 8:02Speaker 5: everything goes on sale, and it's kind of I guess
- 8:05Speaker 5: filtered over to OZ through capitalism and consimerism mainly. But
- 8:09Speaker 5: I thought it would be a fun chance to talk
- 8:11Speaker 5: about an article that I read recently talking about how
- 8:14Speaker 5: much we're expected to spend. According to nab ozzies were
- 8:18Speaker 5: estimated to have spent a whopping eight billion during the
- 8:22Speaker 5: four days of My Friday to Cyber Monday last year.
- 8:25Speaker 4: Eight billion dollars.
- 8:27Speaker 5: Yeah, eight billion, which is I can't even fathom how
- 8:30Speaker 5: much money that is in my brain.
- 8:32Speaker 4: And that's more than the amount of people in Australia.
- 8:35Speaker 4: We have twenty five million people in Australia or twenty
- 8:38Speaker 4: five point seven or something million people in Australia, and
- 8:41Speaker 4: we're spending billions of dollars. It's not even Christmas or
- 8:44Speaker 4: New Year's or like, what.
- 8:46Speaker 5: The heck they're tipping. It'll be even higher again this year,
- 8:49Speaker 5: which remains to.
- 8:50Speaker 4: Be I'm not okay with this. That gives me the ick.
- 8:53Speaker 5: I think it's a really hard dichotomy because on one
- 8:57Speaker 5: side of things, I've been waiting for Black Friday for
- 8:59Speaker 5: a few purchases. I want to buy some air pods
- 9:01Speaker 5: and I'm like waiting to see if I can get
- 9:04Speaker 5: them on sale and get myself a bit of a deal.
- 9:06Speaker 5: But then the flip side, if we're spending eight billion dollars,
- 9:09Speaker 5: I'm gonna take a stab in the dark and say,
- 9:11Speaker 5: a lot of people are probably also buying things that
- 9:13Speaker 5: they weren't.
- 9:14Speaker 4: Necessarily planning on. So your things are maybe for you
- 9:18Speaker 4: or are they gifts? Like as that is that the plan?
- 9:20Speaker 4: Because I feel like if you're making use of it,
- 9:22Speaker 4: it makes sense. Yeah, I just feel like Black Friday,
- 9:25Speaker 4: I don't immediately think and this is maybe not a
- 9:27Speaker 4: good thing for me. I don't immediately think, wow, I
- 9:29Speaker 4: could stock up for Christmas, Like that is not where
- 9:31Speaker 4: my head is at. I'm like, oh, it is my
- 9:33Speaker 4: favorite shop on sale. Yeah, no, I'm naughty. It is
- 9:36Speaker 4: a little bit naughty.
- 9:37Speaker 5: And I think you know, the last couple of weeks,
- 9:39Speaker 5: there's been a lot of marketing leading up to this.
- 9:41Speaker 5: Brands are really capitalizing on it. I remember last year
- 9:44Speaker 5: almost every website had twenty percent off or buy this,
- 9:48Speaker 5: get this free or whatever. Everybody seems to be really
- 9:51Speaker 5: leaning into it because they've cottoned onto the fact that
- 9:53Speaker 5: people are cashed up and wanting to spend. But I
- 9:57Speaker 5: mean it's a little bit tricky because yes, it's a
- 9:59Speaker 5: great time to get those gifts, but it's not a
- 10:01Speaker 5: great time to just be spending on things because you're like, oh,
- 10:04Speaker 5: it's on say a lot treat myself.
- 10:05Speaker 4: Yeah, and that's why I think it's really important. If
- 10:08Speaker 4: that's the period that you're going through and you're a
- 10:10Speaker 4: little bit like spend happy or click happy as I
- 10:14Speaker 4: can be, Like, before this happens, why don't you go
- 10:17Speaker 4: through your email inbox and just unsubscribe from anything tempting,
- 10:21Speaker 4: Like I don't know. I've been speaking to friends about
- 10:23Speaker 4: this and they're like, well, I don't want to miss
- 10:24Speaker 4: out on discounts. I'm like, yeah, but you can go
- 10:26Speaker 4: find a discount when you're ready to purchase something. You
- 10:29Speaker 4: don't need to wait for it to slide into your
- 10:31Speaker 4: DMS or into your inbox for that to happen. So
- 10:34Speaker 4: I think unsubscribing from all of the retailers that email
- 10:38Speaker 4: you on a daily basis is really constructive. I know
- 10:41Speaker 4: I'm the worst, right like Jesse, you know, I love
- 10:43Speaker 4: a good shop and it's one of those things where
- 10:46Speaker 4: sometimes I'm not even thinking about it and then I
- 10:49Speaker 4: get an email and they're like new in and I'm like, oh,
- 10:51Speaker 4: I'll just check that out, like I'll click out I
- 10:53Speaker 4: like this brand. Yeah, and then all of a sudden,
- 10:55Speaker 4: I found a dress I think I need and then
- 10:57Speaker 4: it's all I can think about, whereas I just didn't
- 11:00Speaker 4: need to see the dress, you know, like I just
- 11:02Speaker 4: didn't need to Did I need a new dress?
- 11:03Speaker 2: Probably not?
- 11:04Speaker 5: And then all I.
- 11:05Speaker 4: Do is think about it, convinced myself I need it.
- 11:07Speaker 4: I'll do that thing where I tell everybody else to
- 11:10Speaker 4: do this, to put twenty four hours between you and
- 11:12Speaker 4: your spending.
- 11:12Speaker 5: And I'm like, yeah, I still want the dress.
- 11:14Speaker 4: Yeah, what if I didn't see it, you just never
- 11:16Speaker 4: have thought about it exactly, So nip the problem in
- 11:20Speaker 4: the bud before it even happens.
- 11:21Speaker 5: I reckon. Do you want a fund tidbit about why
- 11:23Speaker 5: it's called Black Friday?
- 11:24Speaker 4: Oh?
- 11:25Speaker 5: Yeah, just like a random I do. I thought about it.
- 11:28Speaker 4: No, I feel like this is going to be really morbid.
- 11:30Speaker 5: It's not morbid. It's just very random. It's a little
- 11:32Speaker 5: bit financi So it's said to have been coined in
- 11:36Speaker 5: eighteen sixty nine when two people named Jim and Jay
- 11:40Speaker 5: were Wall Street financers and they bought a huge amount
- 11:43Speaker 5: of gold in the hope that its price would search.
- 11:46Speaker 5: Apparently the opposite thing happened. The market crashed and became
- 11:51Speaker 5: Black Friday.
- 11:52Speaker 4: Oh but like what, I'm so confused.
- 11:56Speaker 5: Do you know they drove out the price of gold
- 11:58Speaker 5: and stop market crashed and it was a black day
- 12:00Speaker 5: for everybody else.
- 12:01Speaker 4: Oh that's what you meant. I was like, gold is gold,
- 12:04Speaker 4: not black, Jess. The day was like it did not
- 12:07Speaker 4: change color.
- 12:08Speaker 5: They said it on a fire because they were so angry.
- 12:10Speaker 4: That talking about like this, you know what, that's a
- 12:13Speaker 4: really disappointing reason.
- 12:15Speaker 5: Well, the other thing that I read was because obviously
- 12:17Speaker 5: Black Friday follows on from Thanksgiving, and so in the
- 12:21Speaker 5: major cities back in the day, people you didn't have
- 12:23Speaker 5: your local shopping center or your online shops, and so
- 12:25Speaker 5: people would turn up to the city and like droves
- 12:28Speaker 5: to do their holiday shopping. And again, huge crowds, lots
- 12:32Speaker 5: of pollution. Not a great day Black Friday.
- 12:35Speaker 4: Yeah. Wow, I feel like everything in Australia is becoming
- 12:38Speaker 4: quite Americanized and I'm not liking it. So, like Calloween
- 12:41Speaker 4: happened recently.
- 12:42Speaker 5: I love Halloween.
- 12:44Speaker 4: See, you're probably the perfect person to ask, because when
- 12:47Speaker 4: we were in America, you were hunting down pumpkins like
- 12:49Speaker 4: nobody's business, and I was like, what the heck, Like,
- 12:52Speaker 4: I just don't understand this holiday. I don't understand the holiday,
- 12:57Speaker 4: but I also don't understand why Australians are in embracing
- 13:00Speaker 4: such an American holiday, Like you tell your kids every
- 13:03Speaker 4: other day of the year to do not trust strangers,
- 13:05Speaker 4: and what now we're going up to their houses and
- 13:07Speaker 4: knocking on the doors asking for the lollies like step
- 13:10Speaker 4: into my van, tiny child, Like I just don't understand
- 13:13Speaker 4: the concept of it and why Australia is embracing it.
- 13:17Speaker 4: Like I remember walking down the street a couple of
- 13:19Speaker 4: weeks ago and every second house is decked out in
- 13:22Speaker 4: Halloween stuff, and I'm like, do you even understand Halloween?
- 13:25Speaker 4: Like I don't even understand where it's come from anyway.
- 13:28Speaker 4: I've just got a lot to say because I don't
- 13:29Speaker 4: think we should be doing it.
- 13:30Speaker 5: I think Halloween comes from all Hallo's Eve, which was
- 13:33Speaker 5: like a I want to say pagan I don't know
- 13:35Speaker 5: if that's right, but like something way back in the
- 13:37Speaker 5: day that was a little bit almost not quite religious,
- 13:41Speaker 5: but you know, something like that that's obviously been like
- 13:43Speaker 5: really recontextualized for again capitalism. I just like it, and
- 13:48Speaker 5: I feel like maybe a lot of people are in
- 13:49Speaker 5: the same boat as me. I just like a theme
- 13:52Speaker 5: in the same way that I loved you. Yes, you
- 13:54Speaker 5: love the chance to decorate my house or dress up
- 13:57Speaker 5: in a costume or buy lots of cute, tiny pumpkins.
- 14:00Speaker 5: And I know that it's not even autumn here and
- 14:02Speaker 5: the pumpkins motif doesn't make sense, but I just love
- 14:06Speaker 5: anything that gives me the chance to do something fun, like.
- 14:08Speaker 4: Oh, and I'm all about you doing that, like I
- 14:11Speaker 4: will get behind you. In fact, I think you know
- 14:13Speaker 4: i'll get behind you because we went to so many
- 14:15Speaker 4: American targets looking for the pumpkins of your dreams. And
- 14:19Speaker 4: I was like, I still don't get why we're here, Jessica, but.
- 14:22Speaker 5: I'm all in. I just don't understand it.
- 14:24Speaker 4: I'm just like, this feels like a waste of money.
- 14:26Speaker 4: Oh why are we buying pumpkins? It's not even full.
- 14:29Speaker 4: You can't even eat them. Like I saw pumpkin carvings
- 14:31Speaker 4: out there front of people's houses and I was like,
- 14:33Speaker 4: is this food waste?
- 14:34Speaker 5: Like I just don't get it.
- 14:36Speaker 4: Does it just sit there and rot and then you
- 14:38Speaker 4: throw it out? Like anyway, there's just a lot too
- 14:40Speaker 4: Halloween that I don't understand. Maybe don't come for me
- 14:43Speaker 4: if one day. I have kids and they want to
- 14:45Speaker 4: celebrate it, and I'm like, God, it's just too hard
- 14:47Speaker 4: to fight them, because you know, yeah, I just feel
- 14:50Speaker 4: like I don't want to be called out as a hypocrite.
- 14:52Speaker 4: But today you will not see my house decorated. You
- 14:55Speaker 4: will not see me celebrating it. I just don't get it.
- 14:58Speaker 4: And pumpkin spice lat taste tastes like trash.
- 15:01Speaker 5: Oh my god, they do give me a strawberry, a
- 15:04Speaker 5: sire refresher any day.
- 15:05Speaker 4: I just don't understand it. Like that was one of
- 15:07Speaker 4: the things I really wanted to try while we were
- 15:09Speaker 4: in the US, because I was like, oh, this is
- 15:11Speaker 4: so America, not great. One out of ten cannot recommend
- 15:14Speaker 4: you know what we should do? Though, I move on
- 15:16Speaker 4: to the money dilemma. Let's hear it, Hi, there, have
- 15:21Speaker 4: you got a money dilemma you just can't solve that.
- 15:23Speaker 4: She's on the Money Team is here to help. Every week,

- 15:33Speaker 4: simply head to our website and leave us a short
- 15:35Speaker 4: voice recording, and you might just find yourself on the
- 15:37Speaker 4: show Now let's take a listen to this week's money dilemma.
- 15:42Speaker 2: Hey, she's on the money. First of all, love the pod,
- 15:45Speaker 2: but I just wanted to ask a quick money question
- 15:48Speaker 2: about the latest data hack with Optus. Unfortunately, my details
- 15:54Speaker 2: were taken in by the hackers, and I just wanted
- 15:56Speaker 2: to ask your thoughts on the best way to protect
- 16:00Speaker 2: my finances. In particular, I do remember hearing a money
- 16:04Speaker 2: diarist saying that she put a hold with her bank
- 16:07Speaker 2: or something, but I couldn't quite find the episode to
- 16:10Speaker 2: get that exact information. I also wanted to ask if
- 16:14Speaker 2: you had any other helpful tips or tricks to make
- 16:16Speaker 2: sure that my finances aren't compromised by the hackers as well.
- 16:20Speaker 2: Any information would be great.
- 16:22Speaker 4: Thanks Abby, Abby, Abby. So step back two days, go
- 16:27Speaker 4: to Wednesday. Listen to that episode. It was literally made
- 16:30Speaker 4: for you and everybody else in this circumstance. We talked
- 16:33Speaker 4: all about data protection, data breaches, how to protect yourself
- 16:38Speaker 4: and keep your data safe.
- 16:39Speaker 5: Jess, what were your main takeaways? I think it was
- 16:42Speaker 5: just like the safety thing for me, so like being
- 16:43Speaker 5: really conscious of where you're putting your information, being careful
- 16:46Speaker 5: of what you're just closing online because turns out people
- 16:49Speaker 5: can really easily find information even if you think you're
- 16:52Speaker 5: being smart with it. Like we spoke about the sould
- 16:55Speaker 5: boards out the front of people's houses when they buy
- 16:57Speaker 5: them for the first time, so we spoke a little
- 16:59Speaker 5: bit about the impact of those things. But if you
- 17:01Speaker 5: have been hacked, the tangible steps were really to be preemptive.
- 17:05Speaker 5: So don't wait until someone defrauds you. Try and get
- 17:07Speaker 5: in front of that boat if you can. And that
- 17:09Speaker 5: does mean calling around to different people, including your bank.
- 17:12Speaker 5: And that hole that she was talking about was you
- 17:14Speaker 5: can literally just put a hold a lot of the times.
- 17:16Speaker 5: Now you can turn your card off or your bank
- 17:19Speaker 5: account off through your app, but.
- 17:20Speaker 4: Yeah, I can just do it through my app and
- 17:22Speaker 4: just like can not cancel the card, but just like
- 17:25Speaker 4: pause it, which is kind of cool.
- 17:26Speaker 5: Yeah, but if you can't do that, give your bank
- 17:28Speaker 5: a call on the phone, because they should be able
- 17:30Speaker 5: to either turn off, you know, certain types of transactions
- 17:33Speaker 5: or at least make sure that someone within their dedicated
- 17:35Speaker 5: team is monitoring it for any dodgy looking transactions.
- 17:40Speaker 4: I think the one thing to me that was a
- 17:42Speaker 4: really big eye opener is obviously these big data breaches
- 17:45Speaker 4: are really awful. It's your email, your phone number, your
- 17:49Speaker 4: personal information or yeah, like literally all this information that
- 17:53Speaker 4: you don't want to get out, And you know that's
- 17:56Speaker 4: where I feel unsafe too.
- 17:57Speaker 5: I totally get it.
- 17:59Speaker 4: But it's kind of those subconscious data breaches as well
- 18:02Speaker 4: that we talked about, Like you'll use a name on
- 18:04Speaker 4: social media, like why is it Victoria Divine ninety one?
- 18:08Speaker 4: Like you guys all know where my birthday is, so
- 18:10Speaker 4: I'm not too concerned about me at this stage, but
- 18:12Speaker 4: like you instantly assume that that is my birth year,
- 18:16Speaker 4: so you have my full name, you have my date
- 18:19Speaker 4: of birth. Like I just feel like we don't think
- 18:22Speaker 4: about data safety in a way that we should. So, yeah,
- 18:24Speaker 4: there was a massive data breach. Were lucky, we know that.
- 18:27Speaker 4: But it's all of these subconscious things where people can
- 18:30Speaker 4: just go on your Instagram and see your profile and
- 18:33Speaker 4: scroll back and see who you dated and what you're like,
- 18:36Speaker 4: do you know what I mean? Like find out the
- 18:38Speaker 4: security questions to your password because you're like, oh my gosh,
- 18:41Speaker 4: my first pet XYZ passed away. Immediately they have your
- 18:45Speaker 4: first pet name and that's one of the security questions
- 18:48Speaker 4: that you have on your bank and I just think
- 18:50Speaker 4: it's so important to think about all of those small things.
- 18:53Speaker 4: I'm not saying go and have an alias, but just
- 18:56Speaker 4: be really careful because I didn't realize up until few
- 19:00Speaker 4: weeks ago my Pinterest name was literally the same, and
- 19:03Speaker 4: I was like, yeah, well, I mean it's kind of
- 19:04Speaker 4: public knowledge at this point what my birth year is
- 19:07Speaker 4: because we talk about it all the time because I'm
- 19:09Speaker 4: literally a financial end of your baby, like yeah, and
- 19:12Speaker 4: it's kind of funny. But to be honest, even when
- 19:14Speaker 4: I've shared that information with the community or posted on
- 19:17Speaker 4: my birthday, I didn't think about my data. I was
- 19:19Speaker 4: just thinking about sharing a cute picture with my friends.
- 19:22Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 19:22Speaker 4: So I think it's really interesting now because the world
- 19:26Speaker 4: is full of people that I don't want to know,
- 19:29Speaker 4: but they might want to know you. So I think
- 19:30Speaker 4: it's just be really cautious, be really careful, and don't
- 19:34Speaker 4: be a boomer about it.
- 19:35Speaker 5: Treat your data with the respect it deserves, which I
- 19:38Speaker 5: think we've all gotten a bit lax with because we got.
- 19:40Speaker 4: Entirely I totally have as well, and I kind of
- 19:43Speaker 4: just don't think about it. I'm just like, yeah, okay,
- 19:45Speaker 4: no worries, Like oh yeah, but Babby.
- 19:48Speaker 5: Definitely listen to that episode because we cover it off
- 19:50Speaker 5: on so many things, really tangible tips as well as
- 19:53Speaker 5: some things to keep an eye out for. We've also
- 19:55Speaker 5: done an episode in the past called Scamdalous, Huge and Delicious.
- 20:00Speaker 5: I was gonna say, sc.
- 20:02Speaker 3: A, We're.
- 20:05Speaker 4: We're not going there, but we can't sing. That's why
- 20:07Speaker 4: we have a podcast, not music videos. Very true, but
- 20:10Speaker 4: definitely go back and check that out as well because
- 20:12Speaker 4: it had lots of tips and tricks on what to
- 20:14Speaker 4: do if your details are scammed and being used for
- 20:16Speaker 4: something on slavery. Also, the other thing before we go
- 20:19Speaker 4: is that you can call any of your providers and
- 20:22Speaker 4: ask them for the information that they have on you.
- 20:24Speaker 4: If you're feeling a little bit uneasy, you can actually
- 20:26Speaker 4: call the bank and be like, hey, what information do
- 20:28Speaker 4: you have on file about me? And they have to
- 20:30Speaker 4: share that with you, and you can actually request that
- 20:33Speaker 4: once they've used it, it be destroyed. So yeah, handy,
- 20:37Speaker 4: handy hint. But in saying that, I think that my
- 20:39Speaker 4: last piece of advice for the week, Miss Jessica read
- 20:41Speaker 4: she I think it's time to go.
- 20:43Speaker 5: Let's go get a drink.
- 20:44Speaker 4: Ten out of ten. Idea Let's go see you guys
- 20:47Speaker 4: next week.
- 20:47Speaker 5: Bye.
