- 0:00Speaker 1: Hello, my name's Santasha Nabananga Bamblet. I'm a proud or
- 0:04Speaker 1: the Order Kerni Whaltbury and a waddery woman. And before
- 0:08Speaker 1: we get started on She's on the Money podcast, I
- 0:11Speaker 1: would like to acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land
- 0:14Speaker 1: of which this podcast is recorded on a wondery country,
- 0:18Speaker 1: acknowledging the elders, the ancestors and the next generation coming
- 0:22Speaker 1: through as this podcast is about connecting, empowering, knowledge sharing
- 0:27Speaker 1: and the storytelling of you to make a difference for
- 0:30Speaker 1: today and lasting impactful tomorrow.
- 0:33Speaker 2: Let's get into it.
- 0:34Speaker 3: She's on the Money. She's on the Money.
- 0:57Speaker 2: Hello and welcome to She's on the Money podcast that
- 1:00Speaker 2: makes finance fun, especially on Fridays. It's our favorite day
- 1:04Speaker 2: of the week. No surprise is there because I get
- 1:07Speaker 2: the team together and we celebrate you the incredible. She's
- 1:10Speaker 2: on the Money community this week, guess what times are changing?
- 1:14Speaker 2: Not just Grici is going to be sharing a favorite
- 1:17Speaker 2: money wins and confessions from the community. Beck is going
- 1:20Speaker 2: to be sharing her broke tips and how much she
- 1:23Speaker 2: loves Jessic Goerici's cooking, and we're going to be helping
- 1:27Speaker 2: to answer a money dilemma. This week we're talking all
- 1:29Speaker 2: about a partner who thinks treat yourself is buying a
- 1:32Speaker 2: ute or a boat and something you slid into our
- 1:36Speaker 2: dms about the pressure of feeling like Christmas is a
- 1:39Speaker 2: really big spender thorn, which it is, right, But as always,
- 1:44Speaker 2: before we get there, Beck with a mouthful of cookie,
- 1:47Speaker 2: tell me, tell me about the cookies that chest mate.
- 1:49Speaker 4: Oh my god, I was well. I did take a
- 1:51Speaker 4: bye while you were talking. I just couldn't literally couldn't
- 1:53Speaker 4: control myself. But I've been looking at them and I
- 1:56Speaker 4: don't think I can go a whole episode without eating
- 1:59Speaker 4: a little bit.
- 1:59Speaker 2: More so mentioning in the background to explain them.
- 2:02Speaker 4: If you go to like a really really good donut
- 2:04Speaker 4: shop and you can smell like the fresh cinnamon donuts,
- 2:06Speaker 4: it's like that. It's imagine that smell the texture of
- 2:10Speaker 4: a literal perfect cookie.
- 2:13Speaker 2: Right, Jess was saying that they're too.
- 2:14Speaker 4: Dry, but no, sorry, that's not right. Also, I don't
- 2:19Speaker 4: know if this makes sense, but personally I'm a big
- 2:21Speaker 4: fan of like hotcakes cook cakes, and it kind of
- 2:24Speaker 4: like has it's got a hotcake vibe in the middle,
- 2:26Speaker 4: because there's like some sort of maple lea.
- 2:28Speaker 5: It's like a pecan butter. There's maple in it.
- 2:32Speaker 4: Pie cookie imagine the best cinnamon donut you ever had,
- 2:36Speaker 4: the best textured cookie you've ever had.
- 2:38Speaker 2: Plus caramel with maple syrup. Pecan so good at cooking
- 2:46Speaker 2: and just like I can't cook. And then she whips
- 2:48Speaker 2: things like this out and you're like, yeah, Jessica, so
- 2:52Speaker 2: you're alive field, Yeah, so you straight lined to our
- 2:54Speaker 2: faces real, Jesse, Where did you get this recipe? I
- 2:59Speaker 2: found around tik Can we have it in the Yes?
- 3:03Speaker 2: I feel like this would be a really good present
- 3:06Speaker 2: because look how cute they are too, so like, yeah,
- 3:08Speaker 2: the vibe of the cookie is very wholesome, very festive, black.
- 3:11Speaker 2: It's got like the dimple. This is probably too much
- 3:13Speaker 2: cookie talk, like it's important, right, but there's like the
- 3:16Speaker 2: dimple in the middle, and then it's got the pekans
- 3:18Speaker 2: in the middle with the caramel, Like can you imagine
- 3:20Speaker 2: getting a plate of those as a gift? Totally?
- 3:22Speaker 4: And that's the thing if you're listening and you're like,
- 3:23Speaker 4: pickens are going to fall off, no, because they do
- 3:25Speaker 4: have the little dimple and they're covered in this beautiful
- 3:28Speaker 4: maple y syrupy.
- 3:30Speaker 2: Is so good. If Jessica doesn't share the recipe with
- 3:32Speaker 2: a fine for you, don't worry, don't don't expect to
- 3:35Speaker 2: be allowed the.
- 3:35Speaker 4: Show next Yes, seriously, jess is not here next week's.
- 3:41Speaker 2: Cookies. All right, I want to talk about our five
- 3:44Speaker 2: star review that we received this week because it is
- 3:47Speaker 2: so sweet, and you guys seem to love hearing the
- 3:49Speaker 2: five star reviews because mainly they're just stroking Beck's ego.
- 3:52Speaker 2: But this week I picked one that doesn't specifically mentioned Beck.
- 3:56Speaker 4: That's okay.
- 3:57Speaker 2: So Brookie has written in so she said love, love, love,
- 4:01Speaker 2: all in capital letters. You know it's going to start.
- 4:04Speaker 2: I started listening to the pod about six months before
- 4:07Speaker 2: I moved out of home with very minimal financial literacy.
- 4:10Speaker 2: I've now been living out of home for three years
- 4:12Speaker 2: and I am financially thriving. I used the podcast as
- 4:16Speaker 2: a starting point for setting up our finances and organizing
- 4:19Speaker 2: our budget when my partner and I moved in together.
- 4:22Speaker 2: We are now on track to buy our own property
- 4:24Speaker 2: in the next two years. I could not have done
- 4:27Speaker 2: this with other beautiful She's on the money team, and
- 4:30Speaker 2: I'm eternally grateful for the advice, guidance and support. The
- 4:33Speaker 2: girls have given me so much love for the team.
- 4:36Speaker 4: Oh my god, it's really sweet.
- 4:38Speaker 2: Also, Brookie reminds me of cookies. That's theme for today. Yeah, oh,
- 4:44Speaker 2: there you go. It's just a bacon epis. It's a
- 4:46Speaker 2: baking episode, all right. What has the community been baking up, Jessica, Oh,
- 4:50Speaker 2: they've been baking up some money wins? May I say?
- 4:52Speaker 5: Firstly, this week I have got one from Ze who said,
- 4:56Speaker 5: I'm working through my freezer and I'm eating all my
- 4:59Speaker 5: frozen stuff to fresh. I feel like I haven't done
- 5:01Speaker 5: a proper grocery shop in two months money in which
- 5:04Speaker 5: is one of my favorite things, because you know how you.
- 5:06Speaker 2: Haven't gone through my freezer in age one.
- 5:08Speaker 5: Hundreds and you're half eaten meal, or you'll buy a
- 5:09Speaker 5: pack of sausages nearly used to a new Chuck rest
- 5:11Speaker 5: in the freezer. I always guarantee you there's whole meals
- 5:15Speaker 5: in your freezer.
- 5:16Speaker 2: I convince myself, jess I convince myself that I can't
- 5:19Speaker 2: remember when I put it in there, and then I
- 5:21Speaker 2: try to work it out and I'm like, oh, it's
- 5:23Speaker 2: been more than six months, or like it's been like
- 5:25Speaker 2: a year or something. Is it still safe to eat?
- 5:27Speaker 2: I don't know, and then I get stressed, and then
- 5:29Speaker 2: I don't throw it out because I get anxious about that.
- 5:31Speaker 2: So it just days freezer.
- 5:33Speaker 5: You got to put a permanent market date on whatever
- 5:35Speaker 5: your chuck in case, I think give that one a go.
- 5:38Speaker 2: He's a smart cookie cookie money. When I don't sadly.
- 5:45Speaker 4: In there somewhere, I'll figure it out.
- 5:46Speaker 2: I'll work it out if you're next.
- 5:48Speaker 5: I've got a money in from Airy who said she
- 5:50Speaker 5: works for a waste company and they take faulty books
- 5:53Speaker 5: from publishers to the dump. So a lot of publishers,
- 5:56Speaker 5: you know, things are ruined. You can't send them out.
- 5:58Speaker 5: Maybe it gets wet or something like that. Every so
- 6:00Speaker 5: often the driver brings some boxes in for the office staff,
- 6:03Speaker 5: anything that's good enough that it doesn't need to go
- 6:05Speaker 5: to waste. Today she scored these beauties. It's two copies
- 6:09Speaker 5: of shues on the money. I got saved from the
- 6:10Speaker 5: waist and owned it. But I didn't want to send
- 6:14Speaker 5: them to the dump, which I love that.
- 6:16Speaker 2: I was really cute. I've got a puny in my head.
- 6:17Speaker 2: Can I say it please? Life's better when you're with
- 6:20Speaker 2: she's on the money. Oh my, got retracted. I'm okay,
- 6:25Speaker 2: So you know how I was like, Ah, I'm so funny.
- 6:27Speaker 5: I'm not.
- 6:28Speaker 2: This is a finance podcast, not a comedy podcast, so
- 6:31Speaker 2: we'll stick to finance.
- 6:32Speaker 5: Yes. Next, I've got a money win from Hannah, who
- 6:35Speaker 5: said money win. I'm upskilling myself and learning how to
- 6:38Speaker 5: do build a gel manicures.
- 6:39Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, how funny suggests. It's so fun.
- 6:42Speaker 5: She said she's going to turn it into a little
- 6:43Speaker 5: side hustle as well, which lets her be creative. Next
- 6:46Speaker 5: money We love that. Next, I've got a money win
- 6:50Speaker 5: from Tash, who said she had to change her holiday
- 6:52Speaker 5: plans but she had booked the really cheap flights that
- 6:55Speaker 5: don't include like the changes or the cancelation.
- 6:58Speaker 2: Luckily, she called the.
- 6:59Speaker 5: Airline and they were able to change the destination for
- 7:01Speaker 5: her and she only had to pay ninety dollars in
- 7:04Speaker 5: change fees, which is a lot of money, but better
- 7:06Speaker 5: than losing your flights.
- 7:07Speaker 4: But that's new destination. It's pretty good.
- 7:10Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 7:10Speaker 5: Apparently they found the cheapest flights for her, so she
- 7:12Speaker 5: didn't have to pay the difference either.
- 7:14Speaker 2: We did that accidentally with virgin recently. Remember, so Beck,
- 7:17Speaker 2: we went to Sydney just for the day and we
- 7:20Speaker 2: were flying back and I had accidentally booked the like
- 7:23Speaker 2: flights that have no flexibility on them, and we were like, oh,
- 7:27Speaker 2: we need to get on the next flight. And usually
- 7:29Speaker 2: if you've got like the what is it, I don't know,
- 7:31Speaker 2: I don't know what they're called, like flexi. Yeah, sure,
- 7:33Speaker 2: and so you get the flexi flight and when you
- 7:36Speaker 2: get to the airport, if you need to change, you
- 7:37Speaker 2: can go up to the front tesk and be like, hey,
- 7:39Speaker 2: could you swap this, And they're usually really like accommodating,
- 7:43Speaker 2: and the girl was like, oh, you aware that you
- 7:45Speaker 2: don't have those flights that you can change, And I
- 7:48Speaker 2: was at the desk acting like I did. I was like, oh,
- 7:50Speaker 2: I was just wondering because I've done it before, and
- 7:52Speaker 2: I wasn't being rude or anything. I was like, oh, hey,
- 7:54Speaker 2: I was just wondering if we could change to this
- 7:56Speaker 2: flight because I think we're at the airport like three
- 7:58Speaker 2: hours early or something, so like we wanted to get
- 8:01Speaker 2: on the flight to go home earlier. And side note,
- 8:04Speaker 2: the flight that we were on we had just found
- 8:07Speaker 2: out was delayed by like another two hours five hour
- 8:11Speaker 2: age and we were like, oh, we could sit at
- 8:14Speaker 2: the airport for five hours, or I could see if
- 8:15Speaker 2: we can swap them anyway. The girl was so nice
- 8:19Speaker 2: and she's outing.
- 8:20Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 8:20Speaker 2: She was like, look, you're not meant to do this,
- 8:23Speaker 2: but I'm going to work it out for you. And
- 8:26Speaker 2: and we were home before we needed to be home.
- 8:28Speaker 2: So you know what it means. It always pays to
- 8:31Speaker 2: be kind.
- 8:32Speaker 5: Yes, and also to be like a loyalty member because
- 8:35Speaker 5: I think because.
- 8:36Speaker 2: I think because they then saw, oh you're a platinum
- 8:39Speaker 2: member or that's big dog status, but also because we
- 8:43Speaker 2: fly so often, like it just happened. It wasn't because
- 8:46Speaker 2: I bought that status. Like I just do a lot
- 8:49Speaker 2: of work, all right. Yeah, she was like, I'll make
- 8:52Speaker 2: it work. And the rest of the team aren't platinum,
- 8:55Speaker 2: but she changed all of them as well. She's good.
- 8:59Speaker 5: Shout out to the queen at the Velocity Lounge. We
- 9:01Speaker 5: love and appreciate.
- 9:02Speaker 2: You and Diale's really like the pumpkin soup there, honestly, beg.
- 9:08Speaker 2: I walk into the lounge and the first thing I
- 9:10Speaker 2: say to Jess is if the soup's not pumpkin, I'm
- 9:12Speaker 2: a riot. Like I'm not going to be happy. That's
- 9:14Speaker 2: such a funny thing.
- 9:15Speaker 4: Like when I go into soup, if I ever go
- 9:17Speaker 4: into the lounge I did with you guys once, I'm
- 9:19Speaker 4: not thinking about soup when I'm in there.
- 9:21Speaker 2: Sorry, really aren't you? What are you thinking about?
- 9:22Speaker 4: I think about the most unhealthy, like sweet treats, you know,
- 9:26Speaker 4: all that kind of stuff. I have twenty te's. You know,
- 9:28Speaker 4: I don't feel like tea. Actually I don't feel like tea.
- 9:30Speaker 4: But I'm going to have so many teas.
- 9:32Speaker 2: Yeah they're free because they're free. Yeah, free coffee, free sweet,
- 9:36Speaker 2: so they've got literal free wine, free beer. Like it's
- 9:39Speaker 2: actually insane to me. And then you're right, it is
- 9:41Speaker 2: a bit unhinged that I'm excited about. Just back to you.
- 9:46Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 9:46Speaker 5: Next, I've got a money went from Lisa, who said
- 9:48Speaker 5: she did a new mattress for years. She got the
- 9:51Speaker 5: email from us. This is totally me just striking our
- 9:54Speaker 5: own ego because we save someone some money. Got an
- 9:56Speaker 5: email from us reminding her she'd get one hundred bucks
- 9:58Speaker 5: off with that code for Koala that we had, and
- 10:00Speaker 5: then she stacked it with shot back and she managed
- 10:02Speaker 5: to save herself two hundred and fifteen dollars.
- 10:04Speaker 2: So I saved a heap of money because I recently
- 10:07Speaker 2: bought Harvey a new cot mattress and I went through
- 10:09Speaker 2: Coohala because we had it in the code. I'm sorry, like,
- 10:14Speaker 2: I'm not going to work with brands. I'm not going
- 10:15Speaker 2: to use myself. And when the little cop mattress came,
- 10:18Speaker 2: it came with a Kohala branded book. I don't know
- 10:20Speaker 2: if you know this, but they're like baby version is
- 10:23Speaker 2: called Joey. I think it's Sjoey. Anyway, they come with
- 10:27Speaker 2: a book, and the book is called Joanna the Goanna,
- 10:31Speaker 2: and it hasn't very quickly become Harvey's favorite book. And
- 10:35Speaker 2: I really like reading it. And this is probably like
- 10:37Speaker 2: complete side note, but I really like reading it because
- 10:39Speaker 2: it's also about like recycling and like, you know, saving
- 10:42Speaker 2: the planet, and like Joanna and the Goanna has one
- 10:45Speaker 2: eye and like they're like trying to save their planet
- 10:47Speaker 2: and they're like basically like you know, every small step
- 10:50Speaker 2: in the right direction is still a step in the
- 10:51Speaker 2: right direction. And I'm like, oh, this is the narrative
- 10:54Speaker 2: I want to be feeding my kid. So the free
- 10:56Speaker 2: book at the bottom of a Mattress Box has become
- 10:58Speaker 2: my kid's favorite book, Life Saver. If you can get
- 11:01Speaker 2: you it's not even about the mattress at this point,
- 11:03Speaker 2: you didn't get your hands on that book. It is
- 11:05Speaker 2: a good one for kids.
- 11:07Speaker 5: Go and I got around for everyone will we're all
- 11:09Speaker 5: shopping for Christmas. We just did Black Friday. Stack your
- 11:11Speaker 5: discount codes with your cash back because I saved I
- 11:14Speaker 5: reckon about five hundred dollars with my across a few purchases.
- 11:17Speaker 2: Okay, sorry, we need to know, Jessica, what were you spending,
- 11:21Speaker 2: because just say five you need to be probably spending.
- 11:26Speaker 5: That.
- 11:27Speaker 2: I bought some Practically, I bought some contact lenses. I
- 11:30Speaker 2: just tell you, Okay, that's boring.
- 11:31Speaker 4: It is really no bothering you.
- 11:36Speaker 2: I'm sure she is a discount stacker. So what else
- 11:42Speaker 2: are we buying? Contact lenses?
- 11:44Speaker 1: What else?
- 11:44Speaker 2: Because I want something unhinged. I don't want to hear
- 11:46Speaker 2: that you were making responsible purchases and planning ahead to
- 11:49Speaker 2: save money.
- 11:50Speaker 4: Or most unhinged purchase if you can, I.
- 11:52Speaker 5: Don't know, I mean an unhinged I got you at
- 11:55Speaker 5: the marketing got me. I'm a posed to chip took
- 11:57Speaker 5: on this. I went to buy my favorite serum, which
- 11:59Speaker 5: is expense if it's like one hundred and fifty dollars,
- 12:01Speaker 5: but it was.
- 12:01Speaker 2: It was enough.
- 12:02Speaker 5: The long com Genefe. Yeah, you are used to it
- 12:06Speaker 5: for like a decade.
- 12:06Speaker 2: It's really good.
- 12:07Speaker 5: It's expensive, but it's good.
- 12:08Speaker 2: One time I got sent that in PR and I
- 12:10Speaker 2: was like, oh my god, I got sent that in
- 12:12Speaker 2: PR and Jeff wiped it and I was like, I mean,
- 12:16Speaker 2: it's really good. I love it. But also Jess is obsessed,
- 12:19Speaker 2: so you can have it.
- 12:21Speaker 5: But I was very proud of it. So I went
- 12:22Speaker 5: on there to buy that. That was all I was buying,
- 12:23Speaker 5: and I had like, you got like a six piece
- 12:24Speaker 5: free gift.
- 12:25Speaker 2: I was like great.
- 12:26Speaker 5: And then when I was checking out, it's like, because
- 12:27Speaker 5: you've spent one hundred dollars, you can buy like this
- 12:29Speaker 5: upsell thing.
- 12:31Speaker 2: Normally I would imagine you.
- 12:35Speaker 5: They do always get used. And I looked, I had
- 12:37Speaker 5: a little look see it. What was in the box,
- 12:39Speaker 5: and I was like, immediately at cart the car, the
- 12:41Speaker 5: upsell was two hundred dollars. Before you freak out on me,
- 12:44Speaker 5: you know, it was in that box one hundred and
- 12:46Speaker 5: fifty dollars erum. Oh, in addition to that, there was
- 12:49Speaker 5: one hundred icream that I also used, so I was like,
- 12:51Speaker 5: the box is paid for itself. And then there was
- 12:53Speaker 5: like ten other free items which I then sold on
- 12:57Speaker 5: Facebook maket place, fore hundred dollars.
- 13:00Speaker 2: She's so good. I don't think we could ever catch it. No,
- 13:03Speaker 2: I don't think we can catch her making a bad
- 13:04Speaker 2: money decision, but we will continue to try cash back
- 13:08Speaker 2: as well. So basically I've all one. It was just
- 13:11Speaker 2: all free. It was great. Oh that's such.
- 13:13Speaker 4: An so impressive, you're so impressive stacky discounts. That's all
- 13:17Speaker 4: I'm saying.
- 13:17Speaker 2: Yeah, so sorry. That was a hack that I don't
- 13:19Speaker 2: think we've talked about on the podcast before, seeing an
- 13:22Speaker 2: opportunity like that, and I'm not saying it's a good
- 13:24Speaker 2: investment long term, but going I could sell that on
- 13:27Speaker 2: Facebook market Yes, did you look on marketplace first to
- 13:31Speaker 2: see what it might self for? Are you just like
- 13:33Speaker 2: I've done this so many times?
- 13:34Speaker 5: I know? Nah, I just kind of knew, and because
- 13:36Speaker 5: I like I in my mind, even if I didn't,
- 13:39Speaker 5: I was like, oh, I could gift it to someone
- 13:41Speaker 5: potentially or whatever. But everything came. I got two really
- 13:44Speaker 5: like pretty makeup bags and then so I just kind
- 13:47Speaker 5: of split the products across them. Checked the retail value
- 13:50Speaker 5: because I was all new, like I'm not being dodgy
- 13:52Speaker 5: or anything. Check the retail value. Each bag was worth
- 13:55Speaker 5: like two hundred fifty bucks or something. It was so
- 13:57Speaker 5: much free stuff, so each bag was worthout two and
- 13:59Speaker 5: fifty bucks. I chucked my marketplace and I think I
- 14:01Speaker 5: just listed them like sixty dollars each or something.
- 14:03Speaker 2: And negotiated it for fifty bucks. Eat.
- 14:05Speaker 5: Yeah. A girl message was like can I do both
- 14:07Speaker 5: for a hundred? And I was like done today, Yeah, sosh.
- 14:11Speaker 2: So you technically, like I'm just doing some background maths,
- 14:13Speaker 2: got a two hundred dollars product. You ended up paying
- 14:16Speaker 2: one hundred dollars, but got your free one hundred and
- 14:18Speaker 2: fifty dollars serum and one hundred dollar ice cream. Yeah
- 14:21Speaker 2: as wow, yeah, okay, I like games.
- 14:25Speaker 5: And then you got cash back, and then I got
- 14:27Speaker 5: forty bucks in cash back as well, So I just laugh.
- 14:30Speaker 2: I popped off. It's home keeping shot back in business.
- 14:34Speaker 2: Just absolutely sure. I love that. All right, Moving on
- 14:37Speaker 2: to brop tips, Miss bec what have you got for
- 14:41Speaker 2: us apart from stealing cookies?
- 14:43Speaker 4: Okay, So this one comes from a friend of mine.
- 14:45Speaker 4: These these are all kind of Christmasy, getting in.
- 14:48Speaker 2: The festive mood.
- 14:49Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah, I like it.
- 14:51Speaker 2: It's the mood. It's not a Christmas win, but like
- 14:53Speaker 2: they're festive feeling.
- 14:54Speaker 4: First of feeling exact, okay, a cute festive feeling. Yeah,
- 14:57Speaker 4: that's cute. So this first one comes from a friend
- 14:59Speaker 4: of mine says that if you're and this might be
- 15:01Speaker 4: like you know, common knowledge to some extent, but if
- 15:04Speaker 4: you're a hospboal worker or working healthcare or anything like that,
- 15:08Speaker 4: just be open to working at least one of the
- 15:11Speaker 4: public holidays. I remember when I worked at this, Like
- 15:13Speaker 4: I used to work at like line painting, you know,
- 15:15Speaker 4: you know the car parks and stuff, you know, we
- 15:16Speaker 4: used to paint all that kind of stuff. What And
- 15:18Speaker 4: they offered me a thousand dollars so fun, I know,
- 15:21Speaker 4: it was really fun. They offered me a thousand dollars
- 15:23Speaker 4: work Christmas Day and I was.
- 15:24Speaker 2: Like immediately, yes, immediately, yes, I've worked a few Christmas
- 15:27Speaker 2: Days totally costpo life.
- 15:29Speaker 4: And it's like there's no better feeling. Like I understand
- 15:31Speaker 4: that you're like missing out on family time and maybe
- 15:33Speaker 4: if you have to work in the mornings, and that's
- 15:35Speaker 4: when everyone does the presence. But if you, you know,
- 15:37Speaker 4: just have a chat with everyone and like try and
- 15:39Speaker 4: work around it. Like there's no better feeling than finishing
- 15:43Speaker 4: like a day's work and also knowing that you just
- 15:45Speaker 4: made so much money and then going home and just
- 15:48Speaker 4: being able to go and spend time with your family
- 15:50Speaker 4: now uninterrupted. You got so much money, You've probably made
- 15:52Speaker 4: all the money that you spent back.
- 15:54Speaker 2: I didn't make a thousand dollars though, Like I remember
- 15:57Speaker 2: working Christmas Day because I worked at a rest you're
- 16:00Speaker 2: way back when, and every year like somehow now I'm
- 16:04Speaker 2: thinking about it, they'd be like, oh, vibe, but everybody
- 16:06Speaker 2: else has families, so did I, but I had no children. Yeah,
- 16:11Speaker 2: and we'd work Christmas Day. But the vibes are real high.
- 16:15Speaker 2: All the kitchen staff were being festive, like obviously the
- 16:17Speaker 2: people that were there were there for their Christmas dinners.
- 16:20Speaker 2: Like it was actually just a really fun and they
- 16:22Speaker 2: only made us do either a lunch or a dinner service,
- 16:25Speaker 2: like we didn't ever have to do the back to
- 16:27Speaker 2: back and I kind of vibed it.
- 16:29Speaker 5: I feel like there's some unwritten rule that like Christmas
- 16:31Speaker 5: public Holidays, Christmas Day, Boxing Day, all that, like everyone
- 16:35Speaker 5: kind of can do the bare minimum like Boxing Day.
- 16:37Speaker 5: Obviously you're run off your feet if you're in retail
- 16:39Speaker 5: or something, but like there's a spoken, unspoken rule, like
- 16:41Speaker 5: you get a good plate of food, Like you get
- 16:43Speaker 5: a little bit extra time on your break, Like everyone's
- 16:45Speaker 5: just chill because you're putting in. It makes me now
- 16:49Speaker 5: think of all of our like frontline workers, so like
- 16:51Speaker 5: all of the nurses, the doctors, like literally everyone who's
- 16:55Speaker 5: gonna have to work Christmas Day while I now get
- 16:58Speaker 5: to have a full Christmas Day, which is really nice.
- 17:00Speaker 2: But I didn't always have that. But just shout out
- 17:03Speaker 2: to you because like serious is like that's the reason
- 17:06Speaker 2: why we are safe on Christmas Day when all of
- 17:09Speaker 2: the kids get their new trampoline, double bounce their siblings
- 17:12Speaker 2: straight off the trampoline to end up in an emergency
- 17:16Speaker 2: and we're okay because you're there.
- 17:18Speaker 5: Yeah, everyone working for Christmas Day.
- 17:20Speaker 2: Speaking of double bouncing. Complete side note, I feel like
- 17:24Speaker 2: in twenty twenty four, like I'm seeing all of the
- 17:27Speaker 2: trampolines with like the sideting and stuff.
- 17:29Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 17:30Speaker 2: I don't know about you, but my favorite game on
- 17:32Speaker 2: our old school. Definitely above ground, no net, no bumper, metal,
- 17:38Speaker 2: just metal or metal my favorite. Do you remember the
- 17:41Speaker 2: game Crack the Egg?
- 17:43Speaker 5: Oh my god, yeah, my sister game.
- 17:47Speaker 2: My sister and I used to play that game. And like,
- 17:50Speaker 2: what for those of you who don't know what you're
- 17:52Speaker 2: talking about, one person bundles up like a little ball
- 17:55Speaker 2: and position on the trampoline or the other person and
- 18:00Speaker 2: jumps aggressively on the trampoline trying to bounce them off.
- 18:04Speaker 2: Our game was bounce the other person completely off the
- 18:07Speaker 2: Trail's aggressive?
- 18:09Speaker 4: Wow, because you can't do that anymore with the nets.
- 18:11Speaker 2: I don't know. I'm just really concerned, like my babies
- 18:13Speaker 2: in the next few months probably going to start walking.
- 18:17Speaker 2: Is this what I mean? For absolutely?
- 18:20Speaker 5: My intrusive thought with the nets is just that I
- 18:23Speaker 5: want to hurtle myself at them as fast as human.
- 18:28Speaker 5: But I'm assuming the chances are I wouldn't just go through.
- 18:32Speaker 5: We should go to Trounce. Actually we should wanted to go.
- 18:35Speaker 5: Have you not been I want to go to all right?
- 18:38Speaker 2: Well, well god, but I do have to be really
- 18:42Speaker 2: clear before we get them, before you consent to coming
- 18:44Speaker 2: with me. I have never gone to bounce and not
- 18:48Speaker 2: had someone who's been with me break a bone. Oh
- 18:52Speaker 2: my god, Like every time I've.
- 18:58Speaker 5: Been that's crazy times is like twice three times?
- 19:01Speaker 2: I have been three times, every single time, every single time. Wow. Yeah.
- 19:07Speaker 2: The first time I went, my ex boyfriend broke his
- 19:09Speaker 2: leg about really egg, yeah whatever whatever. The next time
- 19:14Speaker 2: my friend fractured the bone in the top of her
- 19:16Speaker 2: foot by like landing on the side of a trampoline
- 19:21Speaker 2: really hard, came down and like land and weird. And
- 19:24Speaker 2: the next time one of my friends broke his arm.
- 19:27Speaker 4: Oh god.
- 19:28Speaker 2: Track record says it's mainly males who do okay, actual really,
- 19:33Speaker 2: but we go, we should go.
- 19:34Speaker 4: It's just us and I'm the most mask of the group.
- 19:38Speaker 4: That means it's.
- 19:41Speaker 2: Can You'll be fine? Do you think so? Going about
- 19:44Speaker 2: men make dumb decisions? Yeah? Yeah, I'm so excited. Sorry,
- 19:50Speaker 2: but we're not double bouncing each other. Okay, crack the egg.
- 19:54Speaker 2: Maybe you and me can do it, just for sure.
- 19:57Speaker 2: What's your next break tip?
- 19:58Speaker 4: Okay, so the next one is also probably common knowledge?
- 20:05Speaker 2: Like knowledge, ain't that common exactly? And also I.
- 20:08Speaker 4: Feel like it's a good These are just good reminders,
- 20:10Speaker 4: you know, like a lot of I feel like a
- 20:12Speaker 4: lot of families. Maybe it's just my family, but I
- 20:14Speaker 4: do hear of like friends and stuff. They like, Oh,
- 20:16Speaker 4: we're having Christmas dinner at mine, so that means I
- 20:18Speaker 4: gotta get everything, and you know, it's very stressful. They've
- 20:20Speaker 4: got to do all the cooking. But no more of
- 20:22Speaker 4: that from now until forever. If you have people coming
- 20:25Speaker 4: to your house or you're going to someone else's house,
- 20:26Speaker 4: the rule is now, everyone must bring a dish.
- 20:28Speaker 2: One dish.
- 20:29Speaker 4: Everyone just does one dish and that's it, even if
- 20:32Speaker 4: it's two of you.
- 20:32Speaker 2: We did want it recently for the Zella team, like
- 20:35Speaker 2: I wasn't Christmas. They wanted to do Thanksgiving but Friendsgiving,
- 20:39Speaker 2: and so everybody just brought a dish. Yeah, it made
- 20:42Speaker 2: it so easy.
- 20:43Speaker 4: That's it's what you need. That one comes from Amanda.
- 20:45Speaker 4: I should say sorry, even give the name of the
- 20:46Speaker 4: other one that my other friend is friend.
- 20:48Speaker 2: People are like, oh, that's such common knowledge. You need
- 20:52Speaker 2: to do a little bit of a reminder or a
- 20:53Speaker 2: little bit of a like self check and be like,
- 20:55Speaker 2: I know that, but not everybody know that. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 20:58Speaker 2: And like I learned very early on, like in my
- 21:02Speaker 2: early twenties when I moved out into sharehouses. That we
- 21:05Speaker 2: don't all have the same experience growing up, Like we
- 21:08Speaker 2: don't all learn how to do the same things. Like
- 21:10Speaker 2: I remember one of my girlfriends that I lived with.
- 21:13Speaker 2: She was like, Hey, they's really embarrassing. Can you show
- 21:15Speaker 2: me how? Like you always iron, Like I'm a psycho.
- 21:18Speaker 2: I know, Jess, do you even own ann I do not.
- 21:20Speaker 5: Yep.
- 21:21Speaker 2: She refuses to buy things that you have to iron.
- 21:24Speaker 2: I hail that you do you, But I'm an iron girl.
- 21:27Speaker 2: I love a crispy shirt. She was like, can you
- 21:30Speaker 2: teach me how to iron a shirt? She just didn't
- 21:32Speaker 2: know how. And I remember at that time I was like,
- 21:35Speaker 2: oh my god, how do you not know how to
- 21:36Speaker 2: iron a shirt? And in retrospect, I'm like, ah, there
- 21:40Speaker 2: you were being a bit rude, Like we don't just
- 21:43Speaker 2: learn this stuff. If someone didn't teach you or share
- 21:47Speaker 2: with you a small tip or a small trick along
- 21:49Speaker 2: the way, we can ask our friends. I don't know
- 21:52Speaker 2: that you might have been like, oh, like it's not
- 21:54Speaker 2: that common, but you can all bring a plate. Like
- 21:56Speaker 2: you might have grown up in a family where when
- 21:58Speaker 2: you're hosting, everything is on you and that's the expectation,
- 22:02Speaker 2: and you're like, oh, well, you know, if Jess said
- 22:04Speaker 2: she's coming to my house, like I'll say, oh no,
- 22:06Speaker 2: don't bring anything, Jess, Like that's your default. You don't
- 22:09Speaker 2: have to do that. And I think just being given
- 22:11Speaker 2: permission or having these conversations goes, oh, hold on. So
- 22:15Speaker 2: you're saying you could make Jess bring snacks to my house. Yeah,
- 22:20Speaker 2: I used a great deal and her cookies.
- 22:24Speaker 4: I used to get so anxious because I also grew
- 22:26Speaker 4: up in a house where we didn't like host dinners
- 22:28Speaker 4: or even like, you know, I didn't even know what
- 22:31Speaker 4: a quilt and like the difference between a blanket or
- 22:34Speaker 4: a quilt or a comforter was. And so when I
- 22:36Speaker 4: went out and bought my first what blanket set.
- 22:39Speaker 2: A moment to know that.
- 22:40Speaker 4: I think it's like, well, a comforter is maybe something
- 22:42Speaker 4: you put on your lounge or something like or like
- 22:43Speaker 4: something you put.
- 22:43Speaker 5: Over the twitters comforter is it's kind of like a dobate.
- 22:50Speaker 5: It's usually a little bit thinner. Do they or do
- 22:53Speaker 5: they doner? She's interchange. Quilt is like the you don't
- 23:00Speaker 5: take the outside off, whereas your doner is like your
- 23:02Speaker 5: white plush thing that you put on your.
- 23:04Speaker 2: Like your heavy thing.
- 23:05Speaker 5: You change the pre The quilt is often decorative, but
- 23:08Speaker 5: some people like them because they're lighter.
- 23:10Speaker 2: I have a doner, then you have a doner, yes, totally.
- 23:13Speaker 4: Even like napkin, Like you know when you go to
- 23:15Speaker 4: a place and they give you a nap I didn't
- 23:17Speaker 4: know what to do with that until literally, I'm not
- 23:19Speaker 4: joking this year, like I was, I don't know what
- 23:21Speaker 4: what what?
- 23:22Speaker 2: Like the material one, yeah, I'm like I don't know,
- 23:25Speaker 2: and then.
- 23:26Speaker 5: The lap I was like what they do it for you?
- 23:31Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 23:32Speaker 2: Okay, Well now I feel uncomfortable. So if you know,
- 23:35Speaker 2: whenever we've been out for dinner or like lunch or something,
- 23:37Speaker 2: have you noticed I always do it before they can
- 23:39Speaker 2: get to me.
- 23:39Speaker 5: I need to start doing that.
- 23:40Speaker 2: I don't I don't want you doing that uncomfortable. I
- 23:42Speaker 2: know that it's like part of the service.
- 23:44Speaker 5: But I just feel silly, like I'm like, oh, like
- 23:50Speaker 5: I can, I can just put it on my laps.
- 23:52Speaker 5: I don't want to feel like I don't want you
- 23:54Speaker 5: to have to do that for like I know that anyway, No,
- 23:56Speaker 5: I know it doesn't make you feel a tiny baby?
- 23:58Speaker 5: Yeah herd is that you right? Like there's so many
- 24:00Speaker 5: silly little things that people just don't know.
- 24:02Speaker 4: Yeah, because everyone grew up different, we need to different.
- 24:05Speaker 2: I was thinking about this for like a like series
- 24:08Speaker 2: on my Instagram or something. You've just like stuff that
- 24:10Speaker 2: your big sister's teaching you or something like that, because.
- 24:13Speaker 5: They are my favorite, like these TikTok Yeah, because there's
- 24:16Speaker 5: TikTokers or you. So we're getting so far up track everybody.
- 24:18Speaker 2: But I feel like it's related to the she's on
- 24:20Speaker 2: the money community. I love the idea.
- 24:22Speaker 5: One of my favorite teetalk is this a little old
- 24:24Speaker 5: British lady named Anne who teaches you how.
- 24:27Speaker 2: To clean stuff.
- 24:28Speaker 5: Yes, and she so we'll put it in the show notes.
- 24:31Speaker 5: Showned out to Ann. I love that woman.
- 24:34Speaker 2: Oh my god. She's so wholesome too, Like you can
- 24:36Speaker 2: tell by her tone that she's so non judgmental. She
- 24:39Speaker 2: like she stitches videos and she'll be like, oh hey baby,
- 24:44Speaker 2: I see that you've done x y Z. What I
- 24:46Speaker 2: would actually do is get out the sides and use some.
- 24:48Speaker 5: Cold water and this and you just like, I love
- 24:53Speaker 5: I'll show you after.
- 24:54Speaker 2: But I feel like I feel like I am that
- 24:56Speaker 2: person ADHD. So I'm Jack of all tray it's scared
- 25:00Speaker 2: of none. So I give everything a crack. And I
- 25:03Speaker 2: grew up with a mum who has not been diagnosed
- 25:07Speaker 2: with ADHD. But if you see the two of us together,
- 25:09Speaker 2: you'll be like, Wow, the apple doesn't fall that far
- 25:11Speaker 2: from the tree. And that's a compliment. So if you're
- 25:14Speaker 2: my mum and you're listening, like, that's not a bad thing.
- 25:16Speaker 2: But like, I don't know one thing that that woman
- 25:19Speaker 2: can't do. She can sew, she can bake, she can cook,
- 25:23Speaker 2: she can clean. She like if you were like, oh,
- 25:25Speaker 2: I need to build a chicken coop, she'd be like
- 25:27Speaker 2: say less, Like this woman can do everything. And growing
- 25:32Speaker 2: up I was in the very privileged position of, oh,
- 25:35Speaker 2: do you want to do that? We'll work it out.
- 25:37Speaker 2: And so I'm just hey, Jess, I can sew, I
- 25:40Speaker 2: can bake, I can stitch. People like, where did you
- 25:42Speaker 2: learn how to do crostitch? I'm like, can't you all
- 25:44Speaker 2: do crosstache? You just learn it and you just do
- 25:47Speaker 2: it anyway. I think that that would be a fun series. Beck,
- 25:50Speaker 2: have you got anything else for us?
- 25:52Speaker 5: Yes?
- 25:52Speaker 2: Okay?
- 25:52Speaker 4: And so my one these are all kind of like
- 25:55Speaker 4: similar ish. This one's not really a Brooke tip. But
- 25:58Speaker 4: I guess it's just a good idea if for any
- 26:00Speaker 4: friend group or any family group that wants to try
- 26:02Speaker 4: to not spend any money this year, this year, or
- 26:05Speaker 4: actually this has gone on for a few years now,
- 26:07Speaker 4: but my one of my friend groups, we do this
- 26:10Speaker 4: thing called shitty Christmas. And these are the rules of
- 26:13Speaker 4: shitty Christmas. No spending one cent on the gift or
- 26:17Speaker 4: wrapping winner is the.
- 26:18Speaker 2: Shittiest gift of them all.
- 26:19Speaker 4: Sorry everyone for all the swearing, And we'll have their
- 26:22Speaker 4: name engraved on the golden turd.
- 26:24Speaker 2: I actually do you have it? Are you telling me
- 26:27Speaker 2: you have a truth?
- 26:29Speaker 4: We have a golden turd that you will be just
- 26:31Speaker 4: like those you know, those cheap engraves. You can probably
- 26:33Speaker 4: get them from, Like I don't know.
- 26:34Speaker 2: Yeah, no, I do know. It's spotlight stuff.
- 26:36Speaker 4: If you leave behind your present wrapping, twenty doll penalty
- 26:39Speaker 4: goes into the Christmas pool for next year. So I
- 26:41Speaker 4: guess you'll leave behind you're rubbish exactly, and so that
- 26:45Speaker 4: that amount of money will go into the pool for
- 26:47Speaker 4: next year. So if you want to, you know, maybe
- 26:49Speaker 4: get a new golden turd or whatever that is.
- 26:52Speaker 3: So that is.
- 26:53Speaker 2: Fine people, and then with the fine money, they're buying
- 26:55Speaker 2: golden turds.
- 26:56Speaker 4: Jessica, it's money well spend.
- 27:01Speaker 2: I'm screaming, crying on the inside. Perfect, So this is shit.
- 27:05Speaker 5: What's your shittiest gift that you've ever gotten?
- 27:08Speaker 4: Okay, so I I want to know who's winning. Yeah,
- 27:11Speaker 4: last year I didn't go, but someone like, okay, so
- 27:12Speaker 4: someone did a I can't fully remember what it was,
- 27:15Speaker 4: but it was very funny. It was like a cute
- 27:17Speaker 4: someone gave just like a piece of paper with a
- 27:18Speaker 4: QR code on it, and you scan the QR code.
- 27:20Speaker 4: It's Ellen DeGeneres doing something. I can't remember what it was,
- 27:22Speaker 4: but I'll try and fine for you guys, just like
- 27:24Speaker 4: really silly things like that, and you have to be like,
- 27:27Speaker 4: it's so fun because yet so creative.
- 27:29Speaker 2: It is so funny.
- 27:30Speaker 4: It is so silly, and you don't spend a single cent. Ideally,
- 27:35Speaker 4: if you spend ten cents on printing off a QR code,
- 27:39Speaker 4: maybe that's cheating, but that's okay. So just a good
- 27:42Speaker 4: idea for anyone who is like, I don't want to
- 27:44Speaker 4: cost for money, let's try and do that, you know,
- 27:47Speaker 4: something like that.
- 27:48Speaker 2: So I think that's really fun because Q really forces
- 27:52Speaker 2: you to be creative.
- 27:53Speaker 4: Yes, and the twin dolls can go to the food
- 27:54Speaker 4: next year whatever you know.
- 27:55Speaker 2: So I think that's really fun. All Right, let's go
- 27:57Speaker 2: to a really quick break because on the whip side
- 28:00Speaker 2: we're going to be talking about a partner who thinks
- 28:03Speaker 2: that a treat yourself present is like a ute or
- 28:05Speaker 2: a boat in the well. And then we're going to
- 28:08Speaker 2: be chatting about something do you slid into our dms
- 28:10Speaker 2: about And that's the pressure of feeling like Christmas is
- 28:13Speaker 2: just one big spender th on it. So guys, don't
- 28:16Speaker 2: go anywhere.
- 28:21Speaker 5: Welcome back everyone. Let's take a listen to this week's
- 28:24Speaker 5: money dilemma.

- 28:46Speaker 2: listen to this week's money dilemma.
- 28:51Speaker 4: Hi.
- 28:51Speaker 2: Yeah, I was just a little bit of a money dilemma.
- 28:54Speaker 6: What would you do if your boyfriend of three years
- 28:56Speaker 6: has just gone out and brought a brand new UT
- 29:00Speaker 6: at a forty five thousand dollar loan, a nineteen percent
- 29:04Speaker 6: interest rate, and over five years. Don't get me wrong,
- 29:08Speaker 6: I really like this year. I love it, actually, But
- 29:11Speaker 6: we didn't need to get in debt for this because
- 29:13Speaker 6: we've already got another U. We also have a boat,
- 29:16Speaker 6: Whereas now you would like to go and get a
- 29:18Speaker 6: twenty thousand dollar loan now to buy a bigger boat,
- 29:22Speaker 6: but it's not much bigger, and we've already got a boat,
- 29:25Speaker 6: and we've already got a U, and now we got
- 29:26Speaker 6: a new you. I really don't know what I can
- 29:29Speaker 6: say to him, and I really don't know how I
- 29:31Speaker 6: can express the way I'm feeling. I'm feeling really unsure, unsettled,
- 29:36Speaker 6: and I'm starting to stress a lot. Before this, our
- 29:40Speaker 6: finances were great, our five year goo of a baby
- 29:44Speaker 6: buying a moving state was really on track. We're in
- 29:47Speaker 6: our early twenties. I know we don't have anything to
- 29:50Speaker 6: lose right now, but I'm really worried. Thanks.
- 29:53Speaker 2: Any advice would be amazing.
- 29:55Speaker 6: Or what can I say?
- 29:57Speaker 2: What would you do?
- 29:58Speaker 6: Would be super super great?
- 30:00Speaker 2: Thanks, guys. Also, I love you. I love you a lots.
- 30:04Speaker 4: First of all, I don't know who this lovely person is,
- 30:06Speaker 4: but they sound like such a ball of fun. Yeah,
- 30:09Speaker 4: just I need to know them. She's so funny. She's
- 30:12Speaker 4: like she was like, well, I love the you too.
- 30:14Speaker 4: But you know, I'm like, oh my god, what a legend. Congratulations,
- 30:20Speaker 4: congratulations on your new things. That is incredible. We've already
- 30:25Speaker 4: got a vote.
- 30:27Speaker 2: That's incredible. You've already achieved very pretty good money goal. Yeah.
- 30:31Speaker 2: I guess it sounds like you.
- 30:33Speaker 4: You know, we don't have heaps of context, but it
- 30:35Speaker 4: sounds like they're already pretty well off if they have
- 30:38Speaker 4: those things. And I mean, I could be completely wrong.
- 30:42Speaker 4: Maybe they worked for a long time to buy those
- 30:45Speaker 4: things and now they're just kind of like, you know,
- 30:47Speaker 4: comfortable or less then.
- 30:49Speaker 2: But I guess it is a.
- 30:53Speaker 4: Thing we hear a lot, and it's if you have
- 30:57Speaker 4: shared financial goals, which it sounds like you guys do,
- 31:00Speaker 4: it's really not okay for your part to to beking
- 31:03Speaker 4: that like such big grand financial decisions that will actually
- 31:08Speaker 4: affect you and your shared financial goals.
- 31:12Speaker 2: I don't think it's okay.
- 31:13Speaker 4: I mean, if you feel like you want validation. That's
- 31:16Speaker 4: all I'm going to tell you. I don't have any
- 31:18Speaker 4: financial advice, obviously because I am not the one. But
- 31:24Speaker 4: Jess might have something better.
- 31:27Speaker 5: I think if it's hard because she didn't say whether
- 31:30Speaker 5: or not they share finances, because I think the more intertwined. Like,
- 31:34Speaker 5: I agree, if you have shared financial goals, you should
- 31:36Speaker 5: absolutely still be talking. But I think, particularly if you
- 31:39Speaker 5: share finances, you really have a strong case to be like, hey,
- 31:42Speaker 5: my dude, like not okay. I think that, honestly, exactly
- 31:46Speaker 5: what you said to us is what I think you
- 31:48Speaker 5: should say to him. It's you're at the point where
- 31:50Speaker 5: obviously these things are not things that you can just
- 31:52Speaker 5: return to the store. But I guess there's a conversation
- 31:55Speaker 5: around okay, well are we selling the other ute and
- 31:57Speaker 5: the other boat, Like we don't need two of each,
- 32:00Speaker 5: let's be practical, let's make some money back. And then
- 32:03Speaker 5: I think the bigger conversation is around I think we've
- 32:05Speaker 5: mentioned this before, but like setting your threshold for purchases.
- 32:09Speaker 5: So if you share finances or share financial goals, I
- 32:12Speaker 5: think having a number and that numbers is going to
- 32:14Speaker 5: look different for everyone. But for example, if I'm going
- 32:17Speaker 5: to spend over one thousand dollars. You know, I'm going
- 32:20Speaker 5: to talk to my partner about it and be like, hey,
- 32:22Speaker 5: like I want to do this. It's not necessarily asking
- 32:25Speaker 5: for permission, but it's creating an opportunity to discuss how
- 32:28Speaker 5: is this going to impact the things that we want
- 32:30Speaker 5: to do, Because, for example, taking out a loan on
- 32:32Speaker 5: a car, if you're going to want to move states
- 32:34Speaker 5: or buy a house, that's going to impact your ability
- 32:37Speaker 5: to do that. And so even if he's paying for
- 32:40Speaker 5: that completely out of his own money, like, it still
- 32:43Speaker 5: warrants a conversation. I think this applies on both sides.
- 32:45Speaker 5: The same applies to her as well, Like it's an
- 32:47Speaker 5: equal thing where it should be across both partners that
- 32:50Speaker 5: you're having conversations about these big things. And I don't
- 32:52Speaker 5: think it needs to be any harder than that. And
- 32:55Speaker 5: if he's a nice person and he loves you, he
- 32:57Speaker 5: will hear you out. Is kind of my thoughts on that.
- 33:00Speaker 2: I agree, I have two streams of conversation to have,
- 33:04Speaker 2: So let's have the first conversation, and that's around shared
- 33:06Speaker 2: financial goals. So I've done some maths and as you
- 33:10Speaker 2: guys know, I own a finance company, so my team
- 33:13Speaker 2: actually finance cars all the time. Yes, it's not amazing debt,
- 33:17Speaker 2: but I think we also are very on the same
- 33:19Speaker 2: page about understanding that sometimes we just need to finance
- 33:22Speaker 2: car Like your family's growing, you need a bigger car,
- 33:25Speaker 2: or you need a ute like not in this particular situation,
- 33:28Speaker 2: but you need a ute for work otherwise you can't work. Right.
- 33:30Speaker 2: So we do a lot of car financing, And I'm
- 33:33Speaker 2: going to give you a really good comparison that's going
- 33:35Speaker 2: to make your eyes water in a hot second. But
- 33:38Speaker 2: I just went with the standard, Like you're paying every month,
- 33:41Speaker 2: five year term ten dollars a month fees, which is
- 33:44Speaker 2: pretty standard, but at nineteen percent, that means you're paying
- 33:47Speaker 2: eleven hundred and seventy seven dollars a month. Can you
- 33:50Speaker 2: imagine if you were saving for a home together and
- 33:54Speaker 2: now your partner has decided to take eleven hundred and
- 33:56Speaker 2: seventy seven dollars from your shared goals and putting it
- 33:59Speaker 2: towards a car loan, Like that's not very live lah laugh,
- 34:04Speaker 2: that's not very prioritizing our financial goals, Like I would
- 34:07Speaker 2: be personally to put it lightly off it if My
- 34:11Speaker 2: husband came home and said, I've just signed up to
- 34:14Speaker 2: a five year loan at nineteen percent. I haven't consulted you.
- 34:18Speaker 2: It's going to mean that if we wanted to achieve
- 34:20Speaker 2: any other financial goals, it's not going to happen. So
- 34:23Speaker 2: eleven hundred and seventy seven dollars a month for a
- 34:26Speaker 2: whole year, that's fourteen thy one hundred and twenty four dollars.
- 34:30Speaker 4: That's like someone's rent.
- 34:31Speaker 2: It's not just someone's rent. It's like literally someone's rent.
- 34:36Speaker 2: Like it's it's someone's rent. It is a year's worth
- 34:40Speaker 2: of savings. That is a whole lass, massive emergency fund
- 34:44Speaker 2: that is multiple holidays throughout the year that could be
- 34:46Speaker 2: a holiday, and a new reasonably priced second hand car.
- 34:50Speaker 2: That is school fees for an entire year of private school.
- 34:56Speaker 2: Like we're trying to contextualize this a little bit because
- 34:59Speaker 2: that is a lot. But I also did some further maths,
- 35:02Speaker 2: So this is the second stream. So the first one
- 35:04Speaker 2: was like, I can't believe someone is making and I
- 35:07Speaker 2: would feel really upset if my husband was making big
- 35:10Speaker 2: financial decisions that compromise my financial security into the future
- 35:15Speaker 2: without me totally, Like if it was a joint decision,
- 35:17Speaker 2: and you both had sat down, you did your numbers,
- 35:19Speaker 2: and you said, right, well, we're both on the same page.
- 35:21Speaker 2: We both want this you, we both are happy with
- 35:23Speaker 2: the terms of the arrangement. Who am I to judge?
- 35:26Speaker 2: But right now you're telling me that your partner prioritized
- 35:29Speaker 2: his wants over your shared goals. Yeah, and that's a
- 35:32Speaker 2: bit thick if I'm being honest. On the flip side,
- 35:36Speaker 2: I did the maths because nineteen percent is an incredibly
- 35:39Speaker 2: high interest rate on car finance. That is what on average,
- 35:43Speaker 2: I would say a credit card in Australia is So
- 35:46Speaker 2: forty five thousand dollars at a nineteen percent interest rate
- 35:49Speaker 2: over five years means that you're paying a total of
- 35:53Speaker 2: seventy thousand, six hundred and thirty nine dollars for a
- 35:56Speaker 2: forty five thousand dollar carp Wah.
- 35:59Speaker 4: Cook, oh my god, that sounds illegal.
- 36:02Speaker 2: That means you are overpaying twenty five thousand, six hundred
- 36:06Speaker 2: and thirty nine dollars for this car. And we know
- 36:08Speaker 2: that the second so you went and bought this car,
- 36:10Speaker 2: brand new, fantastic, you drove it off the lot it
- 36:13Speaker 2: already lost value. So you've already lost like thirty five
- 36:17Speaker 2: I'd say thirty to thirty five thousand dollars by making
- 36:20Speaker 2: this decision, because you can't sell that car for what
- 36:23Speaker 2: you owe, nor can you sell that car for what
- 36:26Speaker 2: it ultimately costs you over that five year time period.
- 36:31Speaker 2: Are we saying that all car finance is bad? Absolutely?
- 36:33Speaker 2: Not nineteen percent exorbitant. I would never let a client
- 36:37Speaker 2: do that. So if you came to me and Sayvie,
- 36:38Speaker 2: I want to I want a car loan, I would
- 36:40Speaker 2: be like, probably not that one. We recently at Zella
- 36:44Speaker 2: financed a car loan sixty thousand dollars car six point
- 36:48Speaker 2: seven two percent, which, by the way, is what on
- 36:52Speaker 2: average I would say home loans at the moment, we're
- 36:54Speaker 2: getting them for like six point two percent, so like
- 36:57Speaker 2: not that much more than property. And I'm not saying
- 36:59Speaker 2: that it's good, but I'm giving you a bit of
- 37:01Speaker 2: context here. That means that every month. Context First, for
- 37:05Speaker 2: the forty five thousand dollar ut that was costing them
- 37:09Speaker 2: eleven hundred and seventy seven dollars per month, Right for
- 37:13Speaker 2: our clients at Zello who ended up, you know, getting
- 37:16Speaker 2: car finance and really needing it for six point seven
- 37:19Speaker 2: two percent. They were paying eleven hundred and ninety dollars
- 37:21Speaker 2: a month for sixty thousand dollar car, right, and they
- 37:24Speaker 2: were paying a total of seventy one thousand dollars over
- 37:27Speaker 2: the life of the loan. So, yes, the loan would
- 37:30Speaker 2: cost them about eleven thousand dollars, but it's not twenty
- 37:33Speaker 2: five thousand, six hundred and thirty nine dollars. Yes, I see,
- 37:37Speaker 2: like we're not. I feel like when we make these decisions,
- 37:39Speaker 2: we'll go that's a bit of interest, whatever it makes
- 37:41Speaker 2: my monthly payments a little bit more Like we've all
- 37:43Speaker 2: been there, like Beck, you and I have been in debt. Jess,
- 37:45Speaker 2: you've been in debt as well, probably not as significantly
- 37:48Speaker 2: as Beck and I. Thank god God she's the smarter
- 37:51Speaker 2: one of the kids' smart one and she will give
- 37:53Speaker 2: that to her. She's way better at baking. But that
- 37:57Speaker 2: is crippling, and that mindset exists, right, Like I remember
- 38:00Speaker 2: when I got my personal loan, I was like, whatever,
- 38:02Speaker 2: it's a monthly payment. I'm happy to pay that monthly
- 38:04Speaker 2: payment for this lifestyle, or I'm happy to you know,
- 38:07Speaker 2: do that value exchange. But no one sat me down
- 38:09Speaker 2: and said, well, this is actually what it costs. Like,
- 38:12Speaker 2: does your partner no that that forty five thousand dollar
- 38:16Speaker 2: car is actually costing him about seventy grand? Is he
- 38:19Speaker 2: aware of that? Is he comfortable with that if I
- 38:22Speaker 2: put that on paper? Is that a good financial decision?
- 38:26Speaker 2: On the flip side, remember that client that I was
- 38:28Speaker 2: telling you about sixty grand. Yeah, they're paying seventy one
- 38:31Speaker 2: thousand dollars over the long term. That's actually a work vehicle,
- 38:35Speaker 2: so they actually need that to generate an income. And
- 38:38Speaker 2: they're very happy with the idea that over the next
- 38:41Speaker 2: five years they'll pay about eleven thousand dollars to have
- 38:43Speaker 2: access to that car. But that means that they're going
- 38:46Speaker 2: to be able to generate a full time income. So
- 38:49Speaker 2: they're like, oh, eleven grand, I'm probably paying about two
- 38:51Speaker 2: and a half grand a year for the privilege of
- 38:54Speaker 2: having a car loan And they're like, oh that like
- 38:57Speaker 2: it's a lot of money still, but two and a
- 38:59Speaker 2: half thousand dollars year ye, that I'm happy to pay
- 39:02Speaker 2: that in order to get the car now instead of
- 39:04Speaker 2: saving for five years to be able to afford it.
- 39:06Speaker 2: And I think that that's where we need to go
- 39:08Speaker 2: back to it. That's a great point like no one
- 39:11Speaker 2: gives the context, and I guess that's where I shoot
- 39:14Speaker 2: myself in the foot. And I won't say we lose clients.
- 39:16Speaker 2: I think we gain clients, but then we don't make
- 39:18Speaker 2: any money off them, because so many times people come
- 39:21Speaker 2: to Zella and they say, oh, VI, we really want
- 39:24Speaker 2: a car loan, and like we're happy to do them, Like,
- 39:26Speaker 2: if that's in line with your values, Slay, I can
- 39:28Speaker 2: organize that. But sometimes our brokers get involved and they're like,
- 39:31Speaker 2: are you sure you want to do that just a
- 39:32Speaker 2: car Do you want to just have a chat about that,
- 39:34Speaker 2: because we kind of have our morals hat on as well,
- 39:37Speaker 2: and we want to make sure that you're in the
- 39:39Speaker 2: best possible position. But that tells me that he hasn't
- 39:43Speaker 2: thought about the long term plan, because what logical person
- 39:46Speaker 2: goes I impulse purchased forty five thousand dollar use with
- 39:50Speaker 2: nineteen percent finance, and I'm totally okay with that because
- 39:55Speaker 2: me being me, you could have got better finance elsewhere.
- 39:59Speaker 2: I'm ass so that nineteen percent, I'm assuming it was
- 40:03Speaker 2: like in dealer, So like you walked in on the
- 40:05Speaker 2: lot and there was probably a finance person sitting at a
- 40:08Speaker 2: desk over to the left, and you went, oh, I'd
- 40:10Speaker 2: love to buy this car Beck. And then Beck says, oh,
- 40:13Speaker 2: did you need finance for that? And I say, yeah, yeah,
- 40:16Speaker 2: oh come over and just quickly say Jessica, she can
- 40:18Speaker 2: sort you out. And Jessica would have been like, okay, cool,
- 40:20Speaker 2: So I can probably let you drive home with that today.
- 40:23Speaker 2: So these are the terms and conditions. You're so excited
- 40:26Speaker 2: you haven't even thought about the interest rate and they go, oh, look,
- 40:29Speaker 2: it's usually a twenty two percent interest rate, but I'm
- 40:31Speaker 2: going to cut that down to nineteen. And you go,
- 40:33Speaker 2: that sounds like a good discount. No worries, You don't
- 40:36Speaker 2: even think about it. Yeah, and you signed straight up.
- 40:38Speaker 2: That is how it happens often, and it's a slippery slope,
- 40:42Speaker 2: but I context realized it a little bit for you. Now.
- 40:45Speaker 2: I think everyone has the iic about it.
- 40:47Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 40:47Speaker 5: I think just take that information to him and have
- 40:49Speaker 5: an open chat because.
- 40:51Speaker 2: You're I'm going to email you my numbers and be like, hey,
- 40:55Speaker 2: no worries, just show your partner this because you can
- 40:59Speaker 2: also potentially go back and work that out, or what
- 41:03Speaker 2: you can do is talk to a finance professional and
- 41:06Speaker 2: potentially have that car refinanced. So what that would mean
- 41:10Speaker 2: is the finance amount and the amount owing would stay
- 41:13Speaker 2: the same, which is okay because you still have the asset.
- 41:16Speaker 2: But you go to somebody who can get you a
- 41:18Speaker 2: better car loan. We pay out the first one with
- 41:20Speaker 2: the second loan, and then you pay off the second loan,
- 41:22Speaker 2: which would hopefully be at a lower interest rate if
- 41:25Speaker 2: I'm being honest. You have whittled down your options though,
- 41:27Speaker 2: so you're not like on a completely level playing field
- 41:30Speaker 2: with somebody who has a brand new car that they
- 41:32Speaker 2: haven't driven off the lot yet. But it's probably a
- 41:35Speaker 2: really good idea to get a second opinion and just
- 41:37Speaker 2: put yourself in the best financial position. Don't even don't
- 41:41Speaker 2: even get me started on the boat.
- 41:44Speaker 5: The boat.
- 41:46Speaker 2: Sail away. Let's move on, because I I just want
- 41:50Speaker 2: to like, I love you so much. I want to
- 41:54Speaker 2: shake your partners so hard and be like, what were
- 41:56Speaker 2: you doing? What are you doing?
- 41:59Speaker 5: I like it?
- 41:59Speaker 2: You do, you know what you can, But you'd look
- 42:04Speaker 2: so hot in you think you you would.
- 42:06Speaker 4: I agree, like, I don't want to be that person,
- 42:08Speaker 4: but I can't of agree.
- 42:09Speaker 2: But alright, move on, we have a DM do you guys?
- 42:13Speaker 2: Want to get into that. Yes, completely, all right, So
- 42:16Speaker 2: here is the damn we received this week, Hay team.
- 42:19Speaker 2: Every Christmas, my in laws insist on buying individual gifts
- 42:23Speaker 2: for everyone, no matter how big the family has grown.
- 42:26Speaker 2: They say it's part of the holiday magic. But for me,
- 42:29Speaker 2: all that overspending over consumption are a waste and really
- 42:33Speaker 2: taking the magic away. Last year, I scrambled to buy
- 42:36Speaker 2: thoughtful gifts for people I barely know. I overspend, and
- 42:40Speaker 2: I still feel like it wasn't enough. I suggested we
- 42:43Speaker 2: switch to Secret Santa to ease the stress, but they
- 42:46Speaker 2: were not open to it. They think it would take
- 42:48Speaker 2: the joy out of the season. But honestly, the pressure
- 42:51Speaker 2: to keep up is doing that for me already. Is
- 42:54Speaker 2: there a way to simplify things that still respect their traditions.
- 42:58Speaker 2: I want Christmas to feel meaningful, no overwhelming.
- 43:01Speaker 5: Oh it's so hard, isn't exau. I think everyone has
- 43:04Speaker 5: their own perspectives and feelings on Christmas. Yeah, if you
- 43:08Speaker 5: have two really strong different feelings, it's a hard thing
- 43:11Speaker 5: to reconcile.
- 43:12Speaker 2: I feel like I've seen this a lot. I've been
- 43:15Speaker 2: having a lot of conversations with my dms recently about
- 43:18Speaker 2: Christmas and like I suppose intergenerational wealth. So like the
- 43:23Speaker 2: older generation, like the boomers being like no, but that's
- 43:26Speaker 2: the Christmas magic. But they also have the disposable income
- 43:30Speaker 2: to spend on that, and it's not painful for them
- 43:33Speaker 2: to do that. Like they're like, no, of course I
- 43:36Speaker 2: want to get Jessica a present. Of course, her new partner,
- 43:39Speaker 2: Beck is coming. I'm going to bring Beck a present.
- 43:42Speaker 2: Like and you know what, that's so nice, Like the
- 43:44Speaker 2: idea that gift giving is they love language and they
- 43:48Speaker 2: want to allocate their resources to you guys. So nice,
- 43:51Speaker 2: but they're not seeing it from the other perspective that
- 43:55Speaker 2: when I receive one hundred dollars gift, there's that expectation
- 43:58Speaker 2: to give one back. And if you're going into a
- 44:01Speaker 2: situation where there's fourteen people coming to Christmas, is that
- 44:05Speaker 2: actually reasonable to expect of everyone? Financially it's crazy. We're
- 44:09Speaker 2: in the middle of the cost of living crisis.
- 44:11Speaker 5: Yeah, it's sad that they didn't want to do because
- 44:13Speaker 5: my normal suggestion would be like a secret standard, like
- 44:15Speaker 5: that's the obvious choice, and.
- 44:16Speaker 2: She's clearly trying to pitch you already's.
- 44:19Speaker 5: If me personally, if that was the case, and I
- 44:22Speaker 5: couldn't afford to do the gifts or like the stress
- 44:24Speaker 5: of it or whatever, and I was like, I need
- 44:26Speaker 5: to give something, but like they're not meeting me at
- 44:28Speaker 5: the table with the secret thing. I would probably do
- 44:30Speaker 5: it like bake something like I would.
- 44:32Speaker 2: I would ask you to bake me something. Don't give
- 44:34Speaker 2: me presents any food.
- 44:36Speaker 5: Serious food is you know, if you do a big
- 44:39Speaker 5: batch of the same thing for everybody, it can be
- 44:41Speaker 5: like reasonably affordable and you can still I think if
- 44:44Speaker 5: you present it really beautifully. I'm thinking that these people
- 44:46Speaker 5: sound kind of selfish and maybe they weren't appreciate it,
- 44:49Speaker 5: but like.
- 44:50Speaker 2: Yeah, that's the vibe I get to know if I
- 44:52Speaker 2: was getting but I didn't want to say it so bad.
- 44:54Speaker 5: That's the case though, You're never going to be able
- 44:56Speaker 5: to win, is my kind of thoughts. And so I think,
- 44:58Speaker 5: like if like I think cookie comes from a heart,
- 45:00Speaker 5: you can dress it up really beautifully, like put it
- 45:02Speaker 5: in beautiful packaging, maybe write out you know a recipe
- 45:05Speaker 5: or pick a meaningful recipe. It's a family recipe or
- 45:08Speaker 5: my personal favorite, and I wanted to share it with you.
- 45:10Speaker 5: You can, you know, give them a little teatowel or
- 45:12Speaker 5: something if you want to add something to it. But
- 45:15Speaker 5: I think baking is a really good gift to give
- 45:17Speaker 5: to lots of people because you enjoy food, you share food.
- 45:20Speaker 5: But I honestly my deep down feeling you're just not
- 45:24Speaker 5: gonna win and that kind of sucks. But like if
- 45:26Speaker 5: they're gonna hold that against you, they're kind of shitty people.
- 45:29Speaker 4: Yeah, totally. I was going to say too, like if
- 45:31Speaker 4: you are just grappling with these particular people and everyone
- 45:35Speaker 4: else is pretty chill, because I feel like this is
- 45:38Speaker 4: not some completely alien concept, Like literally Christmas is stressful
- 45:45Speaker 4: right now, I'm sitting here. I actually have anxiety about
- 45:48Speaker 4: this conversation about how much money I'm going to have
- 45:50Speaker 4: to spend over the next month, And so it's not
- 45:54Speaker 4: a foreign concept, Like people understand that. So if this
- 45:56Speaker 4: is the only one or two people that are a
- 46:00Speaker 4: kind of like pushing back on this, maybe like talk
- 46:02Speaker 4: to everyone else and just get those two people presents
- 46:05Speaker 4: and be like for everyone else, let's all do a
- 46:07Speaker 4: secret stander all, let's all do nothing, because I'm sure
- 46:11Speaker 4: if you're thinking it, other people are probably thinking I
- 46:13Speaker 4: can't thought this either, Like this is excessive this is Surely.
- 46:17Speaker 2: You're not the only one. Surely, And maybe this is
- 46:19Speaker 2: just stereotyping, but I'm assuming it's coming from the matriarch
- 46:23Speaker 2: in the family who's like running the Christmas stuff, and
- 46:26Speaker 2: you will go to her hat like, I don't know,
- 46:28Speaker 2: this is very stereotypical, but I feel like that's often
- 46:30Speaker 2: the type of person that pushes that narrative. And I
- 46:34Speaker 2: don't know how you would approach this because so many
- 46:36Speaker 2: people have so many different ways, but I do believe
- 46:38Speaker 2: they might have their blinkers on a bit and they're
- 46:40Speaker 2: not seeing the world for the situation we are generally,
- 46:44Speaker 2: and they're just seeing their situation and going but it's fine,
- 46:48Speaker 2: and that's really nice. But maybe even contextualizing it and
- 46:51Speaker 2: being like, hey, cool, like I've actually done the maths
- 46:54Speaker 2: on this, and I've worked out that it'll cost me
- 46:56Speaker 2: fourteen hundred dollars just on gifts before I even come
- 46:59Speaker 2: to Christmas, and that's just not financially viable for me,
- 47:03Speaker 2: and seeing if that context helps, because often people will
- 47:08Speaker 2: push back on you when they don't have a full
- 47:10Speaker 2: comprehension of the situation, like if I've never been in
- 47:13Speaker 2: your shoes back and I go, well, it's not that hard.
- 47:17Speaker 2: It's like someone trying to explain their anxiety to you,
- 47:20Speaker 2: Like I am someone that's not scared of spiders, like
- 47:23Speaker 2: I genuinely am not. I'm like, oh, hey, friend, you're
- 47:25Speaker 2: big boy. Like when I see a huntsman, Jessicaupp would
- 47:29Speaker 2: fly across the room, like she even smelled like she
- 47:32Speaker 2: thinks there might be a spider. She's not going in
- 47:34Speaker 2: that room. So like trying to explain that to somebody
- 47:39Speaker 2: and going, but I'm fine with it. Why isn't Jessica
- 47:42Speaker 2: fine with it? That's not fair. And the same thing
- 47:45Speaker 2: exists around money. So I think we need to give
- 47:49Speaker 2: somebody else the context because in this situation, let's pretend
- 47:52Speaker 2: it's spiders. Just might go hey v My heart rate
- 47:55Speaker 2: goes up significantly, I get anxious, I get sweaty hands,
- 47:59Speaker 2: like it's I can't even think straight, Like it is
- 48:02Speaker 2: so uncomfortable for me that I never want to be
- 48:04Speaker 2: in that situation. For me, that's not my experience. But
- 48:08Speaker 2: by being able to contextualize it and see that, oh, well,
- 48:11Speaker 2: that's just this experience. Farah, I'm going to step in
- 48:13Speaker 2: and be like, all right, will you stay outside I'm
- 48:15Speaker 2: going to deal with the spider and I'll let you
- 48:16Speaker 2: know when it's all done and gone. I can sympathize
- 48:18Speaker 2: easier after you exactly. And I think that by giving
- 48:22Speaker 2: people more context and going, hey, cool, I did the maths,
- 48:25Speaker 2: and it's fourteen hundred dollars for me just to come.
- 48:28Speaker 2: If my partner is also buying gifts, that's now twenty
- 48:31Speaker 2: eight hundred dollars across the whole family. We're spending thirty
- 48:35Speaker 2: thousand dollars this year on presence, do you know what
- 48:38Speaker 2: I mean? Like we could extrapolate that out and go
- 48:41Speaker 2: that's insane, that's not in line with our values at all.
- 48:45Speaker 2: Or on the flip side, this is probably a little
- 48:47Speaker 2: bit more rogue. Hey, that's fantastic. We won't be participating.
- 48:51Speaker 2: Could you just circulate? People don't have to buy for us,
- 48:55Speaker 2: They can buy for absolutely everybody else. We know that
- 48:58Speaker 2: by opting out of this, we're not going to receive
- 49:00Speaker 2: any gifts, but we're also not going to give any gifts.
- 49:02Speaker 2: On the day, you know, Jess and I we're going
- 49:04Speaker 2: to make a big batch of cookies and bring all
- 49:06Speaker 2: of the food and the vibes like will be there. Yes,
- 49:09Speaker 2: and in fact, our kids would love to do a
- 49:11Speaker 2: little secret santas, so maybe we could do that in addition,
- 49:13Speaker 2: are you interested? We could just get the kids in
- 49:15Speaker 2: on that and still have something that aligns with their values.
- 49:20Speaker 2: All right, no worries. You do your thing then, but
- 49:22Speaker 2: I'm actually not going to be actively participating in that
- 49:24Speaker 2: and see how that goes. And I think it's all
- 49:27Speaker 2: about being as positive as possible during that because these
- 49:31Speaker 2: situations money Christmas emotions, everyone can start yelling really quickly,
- 49:37Speaker 2: everyone can start typing in group chat in like capital letters,
- 49:41Speaker 2: and I think that just by going okay, cool, like
- 49:44Speaker 2: this is really this is pushing me to my limits.
- 49:46Speaker 2: But I'm going to maintain kindness and I'm always going
- 49:49Speaker 2: to try and approach every response with empathy. Hey, I
- 49:52Speaker 2: can totally see where you're coming from, but unfortunately that
- 49:54Speaker 2: doesn't align with what we are trying to work towards
- 49:57Speaker 2: for Christmas. And like, as you know, the three of us,
- 50:01Speaker 2: we're kind of people. Please is like, I'm not the
- 50:03Speaker 2: type of person that's like, I'm sorry, Beck, I'm not
- 50:05Speaker 2: doing that. I want to be like, oh, actually, that
- 50:09Speaker 2: fourteen hundred dollars that we taught and this is just
- 50:11Speaker 2: like the number I f picked out of my head.
- 50:12Speaker 2: We don't know if that's the number. This fourteen hundred
- 50:15Speaker 2: dollars is actually going to go towards. We're planning on
- 50:17Speaker 2: taking the kids on a holiday later this year, and
- 50:20Speaker 2: we've budget about twenty five hundred dollars, so between us, Like,
- 50:23Speaker 2: that's actually our holiday budget, you know, makes sense, ha ha,
- 50:27Speaker 2: Like I think if you need to contextualize it, you
- 50:31Speaker 2: can do that. But also, no, nobody deserves an explanation.
- 50:35Speaker 2: You're like to say, no, you're a grown adult. I
- 50:37Speaker 2: don't totally forget.
- 50:38Speaker 5: That sometimes, like genuinely, I'm like, oh no, he's an
- 50:41Speaker 5: option and the other.
- 50:43Speaker 2: Thing, Jess, no is a full sentence.
- 50:46Speaker 4: That's true. I understand how uncomfortable it would be social
- 50:51Speaker 4: prior or yeah, one hundred percent, but people are probably
- 50:53Speaker 4: going to be You might be shocked. You might side
- 50:56Speaker 4: and be like, oh my god, yeah, I've been someone
- 50:58Speaker 4: else's years.
- 50:59Speaker 2: Someone else's Thally. We used to do that in our
- 51:02Speaker 2: family and then I don't know who pitched it, but
- 51:05Speaker 2: now we do Secret Santa, and that's actually really fun
- 51:07Speaker 2: because the cap for us in our family is I
- 51:10Speaker 2: think it's fifty dollars a present, but that's like our
- 51:13Speaker 2: total Christmas budget for that side of the family, so
- 51:15Speaker 2: that for us is quite reasonable. And then someone gets
- 51:18Speaker 2: a good present, like we all walk away with a
- 51:19Speaker 2: good fifty dollars present. On the flip side, I think
- 51:22Speaker 2: I've told you guys this before. We do homemade, handmade,
- 51:26Speaker 2: or second hand, yes, and so it has to be
- 51:28Speaker 2: one of those three and that becomes fun. It's like
- 51:31Speaker 2: your like shitty Christmas where you kind of it's kind
- 51:34Speaker 2: of like gammified, like what's the best if I can
- 51:36Speaker 2: get secondhand on Facebook market place, which is really fun?
- 51:41Speaker 5: Yeah, whateverone else say?
- 51:43Speaker 2: Okay, So we had a lot of opinions. First one,
- 51:45Speaker 2: we said which one are you? Eighty five percent of
- 51:48Speaker 2: you said we are team Secret Santa. Fifteen percent said
- 51:52Speaker 2: we are team buy for everyone almost be nice, yes
- 51:56Speaker 2: or stressful and I'm not on the tea. We then
- 52:01Speaker 2: asked how are you feeling about Christmas this year? Forty
- 52:04Speaker 2: three percent of yous said that you were feeling stressed
- 52:06Speaker 2: about overspending. So beck when you said, I'm really already
- 52:09Speaker 2: stressed about this, soo's most of our community, forty three
- 52:13Speaker 2: percent agreed with you. They were like Beck, we are
- 52:15Speaker 2: also stressed company chi for what Maybe our community are
- 52:19Speaker 2: better at money than we are, because forty six percent
- 52:22Speaker 2: of you said I'm actually a Christmas budgeting queen. Oh great,
- 52:26Speaker 2: us be nice, And eleven percent of you said I'm
- 52:28Speaker 2: happy to blow the budget it's Christmas. Well, you know
- 52:33Speaker 2: what you're allow. You're alone. You can do whatever you
- 52:36Speaker 2: want as long as it's in line with your values.
- 52:39Speaker 2: Like Beck, if you said, well, I want to blow
- 52:41Speaker 2: my budget every Christmas, I'll be like, okay, well if
- 52:43Speaker 2: you thought about it, cool, Like, all I want you
- 52:45Speaker 2: to do is think about it and make sure that
- 52:47Speaker 2: it's not compromising your bigger financial goals. Maybe Christmas is
- 52:50Speaker 2: like Jess is Christmas crazy and we love that. Maybe
- 52:54Speaker 2: that's like the biggest thing that you're budgeting for the
- 52:57Speaker 2: entire year because you cannot wait for Christmas. Yeah, I'm
- 53:01Speaker 2: not gonna yuck your yum like, I'm not going to
- 53:03Speaker 2: stop you from doing something that's so aligned to your values.
- 53:06Speaker 2: But isn't it cool that by going through the steps
- 53:09Speaker 2: on these conversations, we're getting clearer on our own values.
- 53:13Speaker 2: You're probably thinking, oh, well, I do do that or
- 53:16Speaker 2: don't do that, But You've probably never thought about it before.
- 53:18Speaker 2: You just go through the motions every year. So we
- 53:21Speaker 2: then said to the community, what is your two cents?
- 53:24Speaker 2: One person said, this sounds like I could have written it.
- 53:27Speaker 2: Keen to hear answers. It is so hard. Someone else said,
- 53:31Speaker 2: ask if you can do thrift mess or put a
- 53:34Speaker 2: twenty dollar spend limit on each person, or make gifts instead. Yeah, yeah,
- 53:40Speaker 2: we've got the cookie recipe for Jess's peak am PI
- 53:43Speaker 2: cookies in the show notes, so you're welcome. Someone else said,
- 53:46Speaker 2: just by everyone the same book. Obviously she's on the
- 53:50Speaker 2: money book.
- 53:50Speaker 5: You imagine everyone going to coffee if she's the money.
- 53:54Speaker 2: Cute by everyone the same book to it. Then someone said,
- 53:57Speaker 2: bonus points. If it's that she's on the money, you're
- 54:01Speaker 2: an icon. Another person said, you need the problem person
- 54:05Speaker 2: to think it's their idea somehow.
- 54:07Speaker 4: Ohha, clevera.
- 54:10Speaker 2: I like this. This is a little bit psychological. Maybe
- 54:13Speaker 2: you could pull them aside and be like, we're in
- 54:15Speaker 2: the middle of the cost of living crisis. I think
- 54:16Speaker 2: it would take the pressure off everybody. Maybe you could
- 54:20Speaker 2: pitch the idea. It's just see how it goes. Yeah, oh,
- 54:25Speaker 2: that is nifty. I wish I'd thought of that one.
- 54:28Speaker 2: Someone else said, feeling like a grinch for having to
- 54:31Speaker 2: give gifts for the sake of it.
- 54:34Speaker 5: Yes, true, you shouldn't have to do something you don't
- 54:36Speaker 5: want to do, is what it like ultimately comes down to.
- 54:40Speaker 2: Someone else said, my mother in law was the same.
- 54:42Speaker 2: It took two years of us suggesting and building support,
- 54:46Speaker 2: but this is year one of only buying one gift. Great,
- 54:50Speaker 2: I love this. Someone else said, give that mental load
- 54:53Speaker 2: back to her partner. Her in law gifts should be
- 54:56Speaker 2: her partner's responsibility.
- 54:57Speaker 4: There you go, huh pot take yeah, di.
- 55:01Speaker 2: Y something small I reckon, like your Christmas crack and
- 55:04Speaker 2: wrap up some for everybody Instagram.
- 55:08Speaker 5: We do.
- 55:09Speaker 2: We'll link it in the show notes as well. Because
- 55:11Speaker 2: it's super easy. Just where the cookie is easy to make?
- 55:15Speaker 2: Or are they like complicated?
- 55:16Speaker 5: I would say, mit, like they're not like a choc
- 55:18Speaker 5: chip cookie because you have to make the peacan top
- 55:20Speaker 5: being separate to THEE.
- 55:22Speaker 2: But it's not. It's no like.
- 55:24Speaker 5: I can do it, and I maintain I'm not a
- 55:26Speaker 5: particularly good cook, So like I think.
- 55:27Speaker 4: It's what's the dishes?
- 55:30Speaker 2: NA like two pans in the mixing bowl?
- 55:32Speaker 5: Really and you're measuring cups and spoons, which I feel
- 55:34Speaker 5: like is pretty standards.
- 55:35Speaker 2: That's yeah, we could do that. We could do that
- 55:39Speaker 2: cooking being beck. Someone else said, I love gift giving,
- 55:43Speaker 2: but I'm not offended if it's not reciprocated. Opt out you, queen. True.
- 55:48Speaker 2: In fact, I find it really interesting this concept of
- 55:52Speaker 2: gift giving, Like if I'm giving you a gift, it's
- 55:55Speaker 2: not because I'm expecting something in return. I'm giving you
- 55:58Speaker 2: a gift because I'm you are going to love it.
- 56:01Speaker 5: Yeah, idea that it needs to be reciprocated equally to
- 56:04Speaker 5: like I bought you one hundred doll year or you
- 56:06Speaker 5: brought me on a hundred all years I'm gonna get.
- 56:07Speaker 2: No, absolutely not. It's just it's love.
- 56:11Speaker 5: Gift giving is meant to be.
- 56:12Speaker 2: It's just not your love language. That's so far exactly.
- 56:16Speaker 4: Imagine we put that blanket rule over everything, Like I'm
- 56:19Speaker 4: going to go get your coffee, so therefore today you've
- 56:21Speaker 4: got to do a good deed for me, you know
- 56:22Speaker 4: what I mean. It's like, no, you just like do
- 56:24Speaker 4: nice things because you feel like you want to do
- 56:26Speaker 4: a nice thing.
- 56:26Speaker 2: Yeah, and yeah, if you are giving gifts in that way,
- 56:30Speaker 2: this is probably really nasty, but that's okay. You were
- 56:33Speaker 2: never giving the gift for that person to benefit. You
- 56:35Speaker 2: were giving the gift to get something in return, and
- 56:38Speaker 2: that's actually not gift giving. Hey.
- 56:40Speaker 4: True.
- 56:41Speaker 2: Yeah, So anyway, that is probably a negative place to
- 56:44Speaker 2: leave it, So let me change it into a positive.
- 56:46Speaker 2: I have a really great Christmas present suggestion, and that
- 56:48Speaker 2: is my new book that came out a couple of
- 56:50Speaker 2: weeks ago, The Business Bible hit Shelves, which is so
- 56:55Speaker 2: exciting because I feel like I probably haven't promoed this enough.
- 56:59Speaker 2: But it's not just for like building ashes on the
- 57:02Speaker 2: money size business. It's for side hustlers and earning some
- 57:06Speaker 2: extra income on the side and managing that properly. And
- 57:09Speaker 2: I think that there's for a very long time been
- 57:11Speaker 2: this massive misconception that if you start a side hustle,
- 57:15Speaker 2: you need to scale it to become your full time income. Like, Jess,
- 57:18Speaker 2: how many times have you been asked, oh, you have
- 57:21Speaker 2: a side hut, when are you going to be a
- 57:23Speaker 2: full time influencer? And I think that we need to
- 57:26Speaker 2: decipher that and champion the teeny tiny micro businesses because
- 57:30Speaker 2: you need the same structure. But Jess, you still have
- 57:33Speaker 2: to do the same tax return as a big business,
- 57:36Speaker 2: but you don't get the advice. So it's from small
- 57:39Speaker 2: micro businesses to changing into a company for the first time,
- 57:43Speaker 2: to taking your first million, to taking your first eight figures.
- 57:47Speaker 2: And I think that it's a scalable book that's also
- 57:49Speaker 2: really fun because that's full of business diaries. So from
- 57:53Speaker 2: all of my favorite business owners around Australia, they've come
- 57:56Speaker 2: together and been like, oh, this is what I struggled with.
- 57:58Speaker 2: This was really hard, not what I'm doing, and that
- 58:01Speaker 2: was my favorite part. So anyway, that would be a
- 58:04Speaker 2: very good Christmas present.
- 58:05Speaker 5: And it's probably on sale right now.
- 58:08Speaker 2: We'll link it in the show notes as well, because honestly,
- 58:10Speaker 2: if you're buying my books not using a discount code
- 58:14Speaker 2: or a sale, are you even a proper She's on
