- 0:00Oh, God. Oh, my God.
- 0:12One of these days, I'll give you an episode where you can just say whatever you want.
- 0:17It'll just be a talk about hot dogs.
- 0:19That's awesome. Yeah, I almost got a hot dog tattoo.
- 0:22Fuck, yeah.
- 0:23I was just up at the punk rock flea market and I was just talking to the tattoo artist lady there
- 0:28and she was just doing like flash shit and she didn't have any hot dog ones.
- 0:34But I talked to her and I almost got and I'm working on this now for later
- 0:37because I've expanded it since this morning last night.
- 0:40But I'm going to get a hot dog like an anthropomorphic hot dog.
- 0:44Maybe Sean will draw this out for me, like with a ketchup bottle or like
- 0:48kind of just squeezing it out.
- 0:49So like arcs out.
- 0:51But then there will be a second hot dog in front of it just getting splattered on the chest.
- 0:55I'll put that right here on this bicep.
- 0:57And then over on this one, I'm going to get a third hot dog
- 1:00who just looks horrified at the situation.
- 1:03So when I give them one of these, it's just like a sex show.
- 1:06Oh, yeah.
- 1:09Yeah, OK.
- 1:10Oh, yeah, that paper's got to go.
- 1:12I know I'm getting it off like the cheese and everything.
- 1:15Make sure to eat directly into the microphone.
- 1:17I will. I tipped it up so that way you wouldn't have to hear it.
- 1:20I'm just not going to talk for like six minutes.
- 1:23I'm just muting you for a little bit.
- 1:25We've had that option the whole time.
- 1:27Yes, we have this power.
- 1:29Does he always make it this clear in advance when you're going to want to mute him?
- 1:32No. No.
- 1:33Yeah. Bummer.
- 1:34I get some cues every once in a while. I'm like,
- 1:36oh, yeah.
- 1:39All right. So USS Indianapolis, colon, men of courage.
- 1:43Speaking of colons, welcome back to Cage Match, colon around about
- 1:45meeting Nicolas Cage.
- 1:47Nick's muted. He can't complain. Good enough.
- 1:50I'm your host, Sean, here with my co-host.
- 1:53Nick, I'm Nick and our producer, Peter. Hello.
- 1:57You can meet him again. That's true.
- 2:00And our special guest this week.
- 2:03Welcome, Aaron. Hi, Aaron.
- 2:05Aaron, how do we know you?
- 2:07Well, I do live next door to Peter,
- 2:09but more importantly, he came to an event I run periodically called Shark and Whiskey
- 2:13Night, which made him believe I just might have something to offer
- 2:18on a podcast about Nicolas Cage and a lot of sharks.
- 2:21Yeah, this is his only shark related movie, as far as I know.
- 2:24I mean, he has a lot of back catalog that we haven't gone through,
- 2:27but it seems like this is the only time that he would have encountered a shark.
- 2:30Has he been to an aquarium in any other film we've seen?
- 2:33I mean, it seems like something that would have been in stolen, but no, he didn't.
- 2:37Thanks for unmuting me. You're welcome.
- 2:39You're back in action. Now eat that sandwich right on mic.
- 2:41Mm hmm. Describe it for us.
- 2:44It's a sausage, egg and cheese on an everything bagel
- 2:49purchased from the bagel shop next to my house.
- 2:51There's too many things on a bagel.
- 2:53But it's three. That's not everything.
- 2:56Yeah. Now you're muted, Sean.
- 2:58Yeah, fuck off, dude.
- 3:01Words have meaning.
- 3:02OK, so USS Indianapolis, Men of Courage.
- 3:05I actually had not even realized this was a movie that he was in,
- 3:09let alone anything about it.
- 3:11I'm sure I've seen the cover for this film without paying attention
- 3:14to like it too closely and thought it was Battleship.
- 3:16Oh, remember Battleship? Yeah, that was weird.
- 3:19That is weird that they made a movie out of that with it has to do with aliens.
- 3:23Strange. Like, why not just make Tetris at this point?
- 3:26Didn't they do that? Aren't they doing that?
- 3:28I'm sure at some point they will. Yeah.
- 3:32I just can't wait for Operation.
- 3:34Oh, yeah. Some guys got a bomb or something inside of him and
- 3:38one on a raves has to like, yeah, his son, it's his funny.
- 3:41Bones explode. Yeah.
- 3:43Bury the placenta at the end. That's how it always goes.
- 3:46Yeah. And then a tree grows.
- 3:49So wait, did you bury a tree seed with it?
- 3:52No, no. Apparently,
- 3:54doing a placental burial is like not always the best for trees.
- 3:59So you're supposed to let them sort of enrich the soil.
- 4:02Like for what happens if you plant a tree with it, does it like grow
- 4:05like extra limbs?
- 4:07Has it become this like Lovecraftian whore? Absolutely.
- 4:10And it calls it a tree seed.
- 4:11Absolutely. And it calls everyone daddy.
- 4:17Is it just sort of like a full metal alchemist situation?
- 4:21Absolutely. It's that just like homunculus goop person.
- 4:27And plant.
- 4:29Homunculus goop is my next dnd character.
- 4:32It's a good character name.
- 4:33Homunculus goop is like your sex life.
- 4:36You.
- 4:38So Aaron.
- 4:39I wish I didn't laugh.
- 4:40I'm going to cry now.
- 4:42I'm glad you did it.
- 4:43It took the sting out of the out of my words.
- 4:46Yeah.
- 4:47No, I enjoy a good burn.
- 4:49You had seen this movie before, correct, Aaron?
- 4:51I had not.
- 4:52Oh, I thought you had.
- 4:54No. In fact, when movies like this come up, as they do,
- 4:57when you consider it your purview to pay attention to shark movie releases,
- 5:01when you realize it's based on a true story, you pretty much immediately
- 5:04throw it out and say, this is not the right movie.
- 5:07For shark and Whiskey Night, there's a kind of self-seriousness
- 5:11that we're not really going for.
- 5:12Yeah, there's not.
- 5:13I assume there's not enough like what has man or rot in these films
- 5:18to justify like the shark attacks.
- 5:20Correct.
- 5:21Now the level of CGI though is probably about on par with many of the
- 5:26ilk of shark and Whiskey Night.
- 5:28Yeah, I would say it's pretty near the median in that regard.
- 5:31Aside from some of the sea movies that just like the
- 5:351995, you know, Kid Pigs graphics.
- 5:37Sure.
- 5:38Okay, we keep throwing around the word shark and Whiskey Night with no context.
- 5:42I mean, there's context there, but you want to explain this a little more?
- 5:45Give us a little more detail.
- 5:45I do like the idea that everyone just has to imagine what that means.
- 5:48But yeah, the gist is really just an event that started out as a group of
- 5:51friends watching shark movies, obviously quite bad shark movies
- 5:56and making and drinking whiskey drinks.
- 5:57And it managed to take on a bit of a life of its own.
- 6:00We've had maybe 35 or so.
- 6:02If you're watching, you know,
- 6:0335 or so events that now we rent out a theater and put together a little
- 6:08production for folks.
- 6:10And one of the things that brings in new people and helps them
- 6:13become a part of it is that we run shark trope bingo in which we
- 6:19help draw attention to an audience engagement with the fact these movies
- 6:23tend to hit on some familiar themes.
- 6:26So this shark bingo card that I've got here, that's not specific to this
- 6:32movie. It actually existed without this movie.
- 6:36It existed independent of this movie.
- 6:38It sometimes gets a one or two category changeover, but of the 24 categories,
- 6:43you know, 22 or so remain constant from movie to movie and reliably generate
- 6:48bingos at the type of movies we choose to screen.
- 6:51This movie could be a different story.
- 6:53I have some questions about the card.
- 6:56What is cream?
- 6:57Oh, there's also the bingo key.
- 6:58That's the other image.
- 6:59Yeah, yeah, cream is a it's a Wu Tang.
- 7:03So casuals everything around me.
- 7:05Yeah, you may be familiar with the trope that sometimes greedy developers,
- 7:11oil drillers, even people running a major local tourism event
- 7:15don't want the flow of money to stop and are willing to expose people to shark
- 7:18related danger.
- 7:19Ah, like keeping the the beach open.
- 7:22Gotcha. Much so.
- 7:23Um, OK, explain breasts to me.
- 7:26No, slowly.
- 7:29Yes, sensually often a precursor to the cream.
- 7:34So, OK, I got a question.
- 7:36If you could take a non shark movie and add a shark into it for maximum effect,
- 7:42maximum shark and whiskey, what where would you put the shark?
- 7:46Like one shark where?
- 7:49That's great.
- 7:50That's a really great question that I don't have a great answer ready for.
- 7:53So I'm going to ask for a little help from the hosts here,
- 7:56which is to say for the event, the ideal thing would be to take a shark
- 7:59and put it into a movie that famously features whiskey.
- 8:03Can anyone help me with a piece of cinema that famously features?
- 8:08Lost in Translation.
- 8:10Leaving Las Vegas.
- 8:11Leaving Las Vegas is also a good choice.
- 8:13Living Las Vegas is a great choice for this podcast.
- 8:15I actually yeah, I would say Lost in Translation is both like a
- 8:19college aged favorite film of mine and one that I do still strongly
- 8:23associate with Suntory Whiskey.
- 8:24Yeah, so yeah, I don't think I want to be in charge of choosing
- 8:28where the shark goes into Lost in Translation, but I do want it to be there.
- 8:33Just somewhere in the bed.
- 8:35Sure.
- 8:37Maybe in the karaoke room.
- 8:39Yeah, just just a shark doing karaoke.
- 8:43I say we just replace Scarlett Johansson with the shark.
- 8:45What do you think she whispered to him at the end?
- 8:49I'm a shark.
- 8:51I was always a shark.
- 8:54I would go color out of space and I'd put the shark in the well.
- 8:57Oh, yeah.
- 8:59And then just at the very end, for some reason, a shark eats
- 9:02the boy and then disappears.
- 9:04Good, good shark involvement.
- 9:06I would say Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
- 9:07It's just one of the Oompa Loompas.
- 9:08Mm hmm. But where's the whiskey?
- 9:11Oh, I mean, fucking Willy Wonka's used on some sauce.
- 9:16And for sure, I was thinking about this on the way over.
- 9:19And if I had to do a non whiskey movie, I think I would do that.
- 9:22What's it called? Like 128 days late.
- 9:25One hundred and twenty eight days or hours.
- 9:27I don't know the one where twenty eight years later.
- 9:29No, the one with the rock climber is stuck.
- 9:31So just put the shark.
- 9:32Just put the shark under him.
- 9:34Added element of danger.
- 9:35The extra danger.
- 9:35Now it's like, do I get my arm free and fall into the shark or do I sit here and.
- 9:41Oh, so he's like, run and hanging.
- 9:42Yeah. No, it's that true story.
- 9:44Like, no, no, I remember that part, but he was like sitting on the ground and stuck.
- 9:47Well, I mean, he could be stuck in any manner.
- 9:50Where is our movie now?
- 9:51Yeah, right.
- 9:52The fact that it's that hard choice between the two.
- 9:54Yeah. I don't know if you're aware that in the last two weeks or so,
- 9:56Donald Trump at one of his rallies had a nice rambling aside about sharks.
- 10:00And he basically just told the story that made no sense,
- 10:03but no context about how because of new electric green washed boat stuff,
- 10:09you might have to choose between getting eaten by a shark and getting electrocuted.
- 10:14You have an electric boat goes down.
- 10:15Yeah. Stay in the boat and get electric.
- 10:17And he's like, which one?
- 10:18Which one would you do?
- 10:18Would you get eaten by the shark or electrocuted?
- 10:20I guess I would just turn my boat off.
- 10:22Also, and your thing about James Franco gets pinned under a rock.
- 10:26I'm rooting for the shark.
- 10:27Oh, sure. Based on what we know about James Franco now.
- 10:30Well, and we know that once he falls in the water, there's danger
- 10:33because it would be blood in the water.
- 10:35And that's what sharks love.
- 10:36Yeah. Yeah.
- 10:36As we learned often in USS Indianapolis.
- 10:42You know, you think the sharks would have shown up if it weren't for the irony
- 10:46of those guys like being freaked out by sharks.
- 10:48Yeah, I think that's some love irony.
- 10:51Hmm. I mean, it's in the blood.
- 10:54Yeah. Yeah.
- 10:55I hear any content.
- 10:58It was a good one. I like that.
- 10:59Keep that in Peter.
- 11:01They're all going downhill from here.
- 11:02You know, I'm keeping it in.
- 11:04So before you got here, Nick, we were talking about like
- 11:08it seems insane to me that there were that many sharks
- 11:10in the water when the boat goes down like one.
- 11:13They were just massive torpedo explosions and a giant fucking ship going down.
- 11:17And all the sharks are just like, let's go see.
- 11:20Yeah. It is weird that they were kind of pedestrian
- 11:24onlookers in this situation.
- 11:27But I could see like one shark
- 11:31showing up and then more following.
- 11:34Like, you know, you get the whole frenzy thing.
- 11:36You get that right.
- 11:38You know, shark calls his buddies.
- 11:39Yeah. On a shark phone.
- 11:41Yeah. Known families of sharks, you know.
- 11:44Should we do sharks use flipper phones?
- 11:49Jesus.
- 11:50This is what happens when you get us out of regular records.
- 11:53I know these are honest. Episodes are always weird.
- 11:56Should we actually maybe talk about what this movie is?
- 11:57Yeah. Let's give it a quick rundown.
- 11:59Aaron, as our guest, you get the honor of summarizing.
- 12:03OK, there's an important mission to deliver.
- 12:07I believe the atomic bombs across the Pacific
- 12:10are valiant crew on a ship helmed by Nicolas Cage.
- 12:14Does so. It's all off the record.
- 12:17Hush, hush. They don't have an escort or sonar.
- 12:20On the way back, they get torpedoed by the Japanese Navy.
- 12:26Ship goes down. The men go down.
- 12:28They float around a bunch. There are a lot of sharks.
- 12:30Some men get eaten.
- 12:32And then there's 30 minutes in with no sharks.
- 12:36And I just really blacked out for that.
- 12:37Someone else might have to fill in.
- 12:39No, that pretty much seems like you pretty much got it.
- 12:41Yeah. Tom Jane's in there at one point.
- 12:43Yep. With a really nice mustache.
- 12:45Tom Jane, famously from shark movie Deep Lucy.
- 12:48Yeah. Yeah.
- 12:49LL Cool J co-star Tom Jane, as I like to call him.
- 12:52So Sean also pointed out that this was produced by Patriot Pictures
- 12:56and it turns out that there's a lot of things that they produced
- 12:58that Cage was in, actually.
- 13:00So it was Lord of War, USS Indianapolis, Men of Courage,
- 13:04Tokarev or Rage, Prisoners of the Ghostland.
- 13:07And there was one other one.
- 13:09But anyway, it doesn't matter.
- 13:10A lot of shit that they produced for him.
- 13:11That was a lot of shit.
- 13:12Yeah. A lot of shit. Right.
- 13:14I want to shark in Ghostland.
- 13:17That would that be good.
- 13:18Yeah. No whiskey in there, though.
- 13:20Just a sand shark.
- 13:21Yeah. Nice.
- 13:22There is a movie Sand Sharks in which the sharks can travel through the sand.
- 13:26That's good. A lot of people.
- 13:27They just on the beach tremors.
- 13:29Then that's a great question.
- 13:31The physics of it were not or metaphysics of it
- 13:34were not fully explained in this movie, believe it or not.
- 13:36There was no shark scientist explaining that.
- 13:38Mm hmm.
- 13:39I was several whiskeys deep, so I cannot confirm or deny.
- 13:43They should get Stanley Tucci in there.
- 13:44Absolutely.
- 13:46Everyone should have Stanley Tucci in there.
- 13:48He's great.
- 13:50My experience with shark and Whiskey Knight, I went and we watched the Meg
- 13:53two, which was fantastic.
- 13:56But you really have to experience these things to enjoy the bingo,
- 14:00because it's just people screaming at a screen
- 14:03any time one of the tropes comes up on their card. Sure.
- 14:06Yeah. So it's mayhem.
- 14:08I'm you know, I'm very enthusiastic about screaming at things.
- 14:11Good. Yeah, you'd fit in.
- 14:12Inanimate objects, walls, TV.
- 14:14It's that DiCaprio meme of like pointing at the TV.
- 14:17Yeah. Yeah.
- 14:18Willing to scream something five times to get a laugh once.
- 14:21It's worth it. Yeah.
- 14:23I mean, how many episodes of this have we done?
- 14:26This will be 70.
- 14:29Still chasing that first laugh.
- 14:30Yeah. So we'll get there.
- 14:32I mean, we got our labs.
- 14:34I make myself laugh.
- 14:35Yeah. I listen to these things.
- 14:36I'm like, that's funny passion. Yeah.
- 14:38Good work, me.
- 14:40So my big beef with this one is it's pretty self-serious overall.
- 14:44I mean, it's a serious matter.
- 14:46It's not like a joke movie or anything, but like,
- 14:49it's not a fun cage performance for me because he's just being a stoic
- 14:53captain of a ship.
- 14:55He gets a little weirdness at the end, but
- 14:58that's just dehydration and hallucinations.
- 15:02Oh, I thought you meant when he killed himself. Yeah.
- 15:04Well, that's wacky, not loopy.
- 15:07Good point. So I mean, I don't know if we mentioned this is based on true events.
- 15:12And yeah, the whole like final act of this film is
- 15:16Cage's character being scapegoated for the whole thing.
- 15:20And like, what is the thing court martialed court martialed?
- 15:23And then he just skips ahead to him like off in himself.
- 15:25Yeah. We get some mad phone calls in the night
- 15:29because he has a listed phone number.
- 15:31It was the fifties.
- 15:32I don't know if it is or white pages existed.
- 15:35And there were less people.
- 15:37They're probably only like seven phones.
- 15:38Yeah. You just keep trying.
- 15:40Is it eight? Nope. OK.
- 15:42Nine. Yeah. Oh, we got him.
- 15:44All right. My main issue with this film is there are too many fucking characters.
- 15:49Well, and also like the cast is not very good.
- 15:51Now, I mean, this movie didn't have a crazy budget.
- 15:53Forty million.
- 15:54It made no money.
- 15:55But like the cast is kind of shitty.
- 15:57You've got Cage and you've got Sizemore on Sizemore and Tom.
- 16:01Jen before he's any later.
- 16:02Yeah. Yeah.
- 16:04But like there's a whole subplot of the two friends, one of which
- 16:08who's in love with this girl, he's been in love with his whole life,
- 16:10who's like the daughter of a senator.
- 16:12He's a judge judge.
- 16:14And then his best friend like meets her and they fall in love.
- 16:19He's going to propose.
- 16:20But then they get into a fight with some other sailors and it doesn't happen.
- 16:25Honestly, I couldn't tell the two of them apart in any fucking scene.
- 16:28Oh, one of them skinnier and more cracky.
- 16:30He's the one who dies.
- 16:31Yeah. Now, I mean, Dantonio, the like Italian meatball from New York.
- 16:35Yeah. But like as opposed to Bama, a southern boy.
- 16:38They're also Atlanta.
- 16:39They're also generic that I just and because they keep cutting
- 16:43between so many characters, I just lose track of who anyone is
- 16:46and none of their stories matter.
- 16:47So I'm just like, why?
- 16:49Why is this happening?
- 16:51This is not what a good ensemble looks like.
- 16:53I mean, their stories matter in terms of giving you perspective
- 16:58and like making you feel and identify.
- 17:01Or that's what it should be doing.
- 17:02That's what it should be doing it. But it doesn't.
- 17:04But if you cut that out,
- 17:06you just get a ship sinking and sharks and then cut to.
- 17:10That's what I wanted.
- 17:11Yeah, I would have been OK with that.
- 17:12I would have been better. That's like a five minute scene.
- 17:16They did do a pretty good Titanic with the guy
- 17:19falling off the top of the ship as it was sinking.
- 17:22And then he didn't hit the propeller.
- 17:24He hit something else.
- 17:26That was enjoyable.
- 17:27I like a good callback to that.
- 17:29No, just like this.
- 17:31The CG in this film was so rough.
- 17:34Yeah, especially that first dog, that first scene where the Indianapolis
- 17:38is being attacked by kamikazes and just like,
- 17:42oh, this all looks like Xbox 360 era, like cut scene bad.
- 17:48Yeah, those when the suicide torpedoes go, the Kitan.
- 17:53Yeah, they're really silly.
- 17:56They it's just a window.
- 17:58This movie come out 2016.
- 18:01Whoa. Yeah, dude.
- 18:03You can't grade on very much of a curve here.
- 18:05No, it's definitely like early 2000 CG.
- 18:09Yeah. But then there are moments where it's like it doesn't look terrible.
- 18:14Sure. When they're like inside the ship and there's no.
- 18:16It's still.
- 18:17It's still well.
- 18:18No, I mean, there's some CG that's like.
- 18:20Less awful, like whatever shark fin goes by someone like that's passable.
- 18:25Well, OK, let's talk to the expert then.
- 18:26So regarding specifically the shark related stuff,
- 18:30how do you think this kind of stacks up?
- 18:32And you can put it between two shark movies in terms of quality, if that helps.
- 18:36Oh, between two sharks.
- 18:37I mean, in terms of the shark related stuff, it's below every shark movie
- 18:41because the movie did not focus nearly enough on the sharks.
- 18:45The most interesting characters in the movie should be sharks.
- 18:48And among other things, they were basically only filmed from above water
- 18:51the entire time, which is really a waste.
- 18:53You're passing out like the shark point of view shot.
- 18:56I was very disappointed in no POV.
- 18:57Yeah, like seeing the shark like swim near someone's legs and then divert
- 19:01and get some like there's just so much there.
- 19:03Once you recognize the shark should be the star of your movie and they
- 19:06the entire.
- 19:08The shark. The shark crosshairs as he hones in on you.
- 19:11I do.
- 19:12Love just the language of low budget shark film.
- 19:17Of low budget shark film of just man treading water.
- 19:20Suddenly, man is underwater.
- 19:22I did love like this shots of like the people just getting pulled in.
- 19:27Yeah. It's like, boom, you're gone.
- 19:28That's awesome.
- 19:29Yeah, they did do these little jolts of blood and excitement.
- 19:32Yeah, they even did one classic towards the end.
- 19:34They finally had their first amputation by shark, which is on the bingo board.
- 19:38And I on screen.
- 19:39I went there because the chaplain or whatever that guy's role was.
- 19:44He was hugging his leg for quite some time.
- 19:48Indeed. One of the more tender.
- 19:49On screen ships in the movie.
- 19:50Yeah, that's where the feelings come from.
- 19:52I do love that they use the same man and bad CG
- 19:57shark coming up on the raft twice.
- 20:00Listen, man, if you make a good shot, you just do it again.
- 20:03Well, it's going to notice.
- 20:04Also, those rafts sucked for real.
- 20:07What the fuck? Those rafts are terrible.
- 20:09I was thinking that for a while, and then I was like, you know what?
- 20:12Those rafts are going to like sink if it's punctured.
- 20:15True. No, I mean, there's stuff to it.
- 20:17You can stack so many of them in the ship because there's no like bottom portion.
- 20:23It's just like a foam ring with like cargo netting.
- 20:26Yeah. Inside of it.
- 20:28So bad for sharks.
- 20:29It's bad for sharks, but it's good for people and ships.
- 20:33No, this is all about intended function.
- 20:34Yeah. I mean, to keep you from drowning.
- 20:37Yeah. It's not meant to keep you safe from sharks and not even really
- 20:40that safe from hypothermia since a lot of your body will be.
- 20:43Yeah. Still water intermittently.
- 20:44I love how they're so freaked out about sharks, but they're all just chill,
- 20:47just like dangling their tootsies in the water. The whole film.
- 20:50I would have expected more like fighting for the handful of spots
- 20:54where you could keep your body above water.
- 20:55Yeah, absolutely. But some good discipline.
- 20:57What happened to the commander who like just fucked off to the
- 21:01there's an island over there.
- 21:03Oh, he totally was just hallucinating.
- 21:04I know. But I wanted to rode out and just died.
- 21:07I wanted to see that. Yeah.
- 21:09Yeah, he was kind of a shit commander.
- 21:12Yeah. Little racist fuck.
- 21:14He sucked.
- 21:15He is the character who you expect to die dramatically in a shark movie
- 21:19to be punished for his obvious moral failings. Right.
- 21:21And he and the fact that it didn't happen on screen is really
- 21:24another missed opportunity.
- 21:26Yeah. They should have just shown his floating corpse somewhere.
- 21:28Well, again, because I can't.
- 21:30Well, because I can't.
- 21:31Oh, yeah. He just shits himself to death.
- 21:33Well, again, because of the glut of actors and characters in this film,
- 21:37there's later just another rant.
- 21:39There's just another blonde guy like on a raft kind of floating by himself.
- 21:43Dynamite is is that the same guy?
- 21:45I don't think it was.
- 21:46Well, right. And they like.
- 21:47So the other arc is that there's like the racist white guy
- 21:51who gets saved by the black guy that he's been a dick to this whole time.
- 21:54And then they become buddies and they find their other buddy,
- 21:57but it's not really him.
- 21:59And it's like what weird fake out bullshit was who fucking cares?
- 22:04I like the one guy who wrote smut and his book survived.
- 22:07Yeah, that's the one that he's talking about.
- 22:09So like you get the fake out death where it's like, oh, he's got the book.
- 22:13It's our buddy Timothy.
- 22:15And no, it's just some dude with his head chomped off.
- 22:19And we already seen the guy with the book earlier.
- 22:22Yeah. Couple times.
- 22:23That's that's so you can get fake out.
- 22:24But there was like a shark attack or whatever.
- 22:27He had given his book to that other guy.
- 22:29He was already with the captain, though.
- 22:31It's yeah, it's just so sloppy.
- 22:33It was really hard to track these characters again, partly because they weren't that distinct
- 22:36and you didn't actually care about them.
- 22:38Like we could have boiled it down to like four principal characters
- 22:41and just followed them significantly rather than trying to give everyone equal screen time.
- 22:46Yeah, like all the stuff, the backstory for Tom Sizemore's character,
- 22:49he just had a baby boy that he's never met because he's in the military.
- 22:52I forgot about that. Right.
- 22:53And, you know, he's sitting there in the in the raft holding his leg lovingly.
- 22:56I liked his pigeon.
- 22:58He's got his like his lucky dove of courage.
- 23:00I was watching this on one point seven five speed, so I probably missed that.
- 23:03Like three frames where there was a game.
- 23:05You really kicked it up.
- 23:06There was a pigeon in there for a minute.
- 23:08I needed to. Well, for me, it was a lot less than a minute.
- 23:11Are you just training yourself to understand like really fast talkers?
- 23:15Yes. Like you're just slow.
- 23:17Well, this is so incrementally.
- 23:19Yeah. This is so he can edit us quicker.
- 23:22Yeah, dude.
- 23:23Oh, I could do that. I could do double time.
- 23:25So watching at one point seven five.
- 23:27Did you catch the really dramatic foreshadowing moment?
- 23:31Whereas Nick Cage asks for escort for this dangerous mission and they reject it.
- 23:37They have these giant great white shark jaws on display and they're like both framed by these jaws.
- 23:42Yes. Really, really subtle.
- 23:44Subtlety. It was a little it was a fast subtlety for me, but I got it.
- 23:48So thank goodness.
- 23:49Sharks are drawn to irony.
- 23:53God, this movie.
- 23:54I liked it more than I thought I was going to, but it's still pretty fucking bad.
- 23:58It's not terrible.
- 24:00No, it's an enjoyable watch.
- 24:02It's just got flaws.
- 24:03Yeah. So.
- 24:04So while we're. Oh, go ahead.
- 24:06What was the quote you were going to?
- 24:08One of the reviews is someone for Roger Ebert dot com.
- 24:13Consensus of the film was not exactly unwatchable, but also completely not worthy of watching.
- 24:19I think that's a fair assessment.
- 24:21So this is fundamentally a period piece, right?
- 24:24It's a reenactment.
- 24:25It's set in this in nineteen forty five.
- 24:27Right. Yep.
- 24:28And so if there's anything people I assume enjoy, it's getting extremely pedantic.
- 24:33But in a period piece, I expect things to try to be like loosely of the time.
- 24:37And yet early on, as they're getting us really invested in these characters and, you know,
- 24:42this bromance between Bama and Dantonio and the girl they both love.
- 24:46I think it's Dantonio is trying to get his buddies going.
- 24:49Dantonio is trying to get his buddies courage up.
- 24:52And he utters the phrase, you miss 100 percent of the shots you don't take.
- 24:56I know in my head, I heard that and I was like, Wayne Gretzky.
- 24:59Yeah. So this is a quote that isn't even real.
- 25:03It's apocryphal.
- 25:04A tribute to Wayne Gretzky in like the 1980s and is really only famous because it became
- 25:09the office meme about 20 years after that.
- 25:12And even beyond the fact that, yeah, this is a famous quote from 40 plus years later.
- 25:18I'm not even sure that math education in the 1930s and 40s would have included percentages
- 25:25and like following pro sports and describing shooting percentage as a thing that you would
- 25:31track or be interested in.
- 25:33That is a heck of a thing to bring in.
- 25:37Dantonio also seems like an idiot.
- 25:39He's got those sweet dance moves though.
- 25:41Oh, he does from the city.
- 25:43Yeah.
- 25:44And those girls caught on real fast.
- 25:46He's like, I'm going to teach them how to dance.
- 25:48I like how he did like the run up in like this, like the slide under the girls dress.
- 25:54I like how this is all happening in the judges house and he's not shutting it down.
- 25:59That would make so much noise, them stomping around and dancing.
- 26:03He did tell his house servant to tell them to turn that racket down.
- 26:08Yeah. Just I expected him to be firmer.
- 26:13So Dantonio dies and his buddy does get the girl at the end.
- 26:16Yeah. Bama becomes a baby daddy to her.
- 26:19Yeah, because she's pregnant.
- 26:21That's as soon as I like she said, like, I'm having, you know, the other man's baby.
- 26:26That's when I texted you both like this fucking movie had to tie it all together.
- 26:32And then the gambling addict guy, he's like, oh, he's a better man than me.
- 26:36You know, yeah.
- 26:37Yeah. The fuck this movie.
- 26:40These characters are so dumb.
- 26:41And the only reason I ever recognized him is because he had glasses.
- 26:44Right. Yeah, that was a notable trait. Yeah.
- 26:46White guy glasses. Ooh, gambling problem. OK, got it.
- 26:49I'm impressed you even tracked that at the end when they had, you know, he returned the ring.
- 26:53Right. And then made this commentary.
- 26:55I'm like, oh, this is all supposed to be like tying up some arc, but I haven't followed this arc at all.
- 27:00This means nothing to. Well, and then just the whole.
- 27:03So of the people who have an actual story is Bama and Dantonio and Dantonio dies off screen.
- 27:09Like they're they get rescued.
- 27:11No, he just dies. He dies in the boat.
- 27:13So he gets bitten and then he dies in the boat like very they're just sitting there and then all of a sudden he's like,
- 27:18Oh, he's like Dantonio, don't leave me, buddy.
- 27:22You know, but that's when he was hallucinating.
- 27:24And then later he's like, you know, take care of her for me.
- 27:26And he's like, you're going to be OK.
- 27:27And then we don't ever see them again until they're in the hospital.
- 27:30Well, that's true.
- 27:31So like, it's just like it's such a it's just it's such a wet fart of an ending for that story.
- 27:37Yeah. Everybody's individual stories suck.
- 27:40There's not a good individual story except for Nicholas Cage's.
- 27:44Yeah, because he's just doing, you know, the best he can.
- 27:48He tries the most for his people and then he gets fucking lambasted at the end and just shoots himself.
- 27:56Japanese. Oh, well, the Japanese captain was pretty cool.
- 27:59The surprise witness. Yeah.
- 28:01Hachimoto. He was sweet. Also, I love his story of just like talking to the ghost of maybe his father.
- 28:08Yeah, I was curious. Was that the emperor?
- 28:11Was were there subtitles for those scenes? Yes. Yes.
- 28:15Ah, not for me.
- 28:18So I just was like, hmm, Japanese. Got it.
- 28:22The family is rife with subtitles. OK.
- 28:25I mean, I watched the whole movie with subtitles.
- 28:27It just didn't bother. It didn't deign to give the Japanese characters any subtitles.
- 28:32Hmm. So when we watched the Meg, too, where there was a ton of Mandarin and no subtitles.
- 28:39The first time I watched the Wolverine movie, the one with Silver Samurai.
- 28:46Yeah, I had watched a copy that I downloaded and there were no subtitled tracks.
- 28:51And I was like, wow, this is a lot of Japanese. That's not getting explained to me.
- 28:55So Kong X Godzilla has this whole subterranean culture of like a lost tribe.
- 29:03And they have this whole history that tells the whole history of like Kong and like all the monsters.
- 29:08And instead of just giving them subtitles, they're also psychic.
- 29:11So they could just project these thoughts into the main characters.
- 29:14But the sexy white lady scientist just decodes their entire language in five minutes and tells the story for them.
- 29:21I'm amazed they didn't make that a guy.
- 29:25Now, the guy was cool and wore a Hawaiian shirt and gave Kong a robot hand.
- 29:29Oh, fuck. Yeah, I want to see this. I love this fucking film.
- 29:32I'm sold now. Yeah. At one point, King Kong uses a monkey to hit another monkey.
- 29:37That's a pro move.
- 29:39And then uses another monkey to hit both those monkeys.
- 29:42He nunchucks a baby monkey. I mean, as it should be.
- 29:45I mean, why doesn't he just swing his big ass dong around and fucking King to mess him up?
- 29:50Also, why isn't there more King Kong dick in these movies?
- 29:55Like he would have to have an enormous hog.
- 29:59I think don't like you would say great apes like notoriously have tiny hogs.
- 30:04Yeah, but he's giant.
- 30:06It would still be the size of a car.
- 30:08It's like a Volkswagen Beetle. It's all about scale, though.
- 30:11He's so big. You still don't see it.
- 30:13I would see a fucking Volvo swinging around above my head if he was attacking the city.
- 30:19I'd be like, oh, shit. Giant. Wow. OK.
- 30:23Respect. Cool.
- 30:24And then he just grabs the world's largest frog and goes to town on it.
- 30:29Call back to one of our first episodes.
- 30:34Oh, God, what I'm hearing here is that when a movie understands how to use its creatures more effectively, the movie is more enjoyable.
- 30:42Yeah. If these sharks had had huge ass dicks, I would have been all about it.
- 30:46What's a shark dick look like?
- 30:48Well, they have two decks. I think so.
- 30:51They're fish. So as a not a shark expert, just a shark movie expert.
- 30:57Everything I know about shark science is like a sort of conglomerated canon of like this alternate shark universe in which shark scientists say things, many of which contradict each other.
- 31:10I've never heard anyone say they have two decks.
- 31:12I've also never heard anyone say they don't have two decks.
- 31:15So we're at least a coin toss here.
- 31:17OK, 50-50 two decks.
- 31:19So here's an important plug.
- 31:21Why do sharks have two penises?
- 31:23Oh, no. Here's a subtitle.
- 31:25What is a class for?
- 31:27So in college, I went to art college and my science class was called Bad Science at the Movies, where we would watch ostensibly like bad shark movies.
- 31:37And my teacher would just fast forward through these movies to like the science, the fake science shit, pause it and then just rant at us about how that was just the dumbest thing that ever heard.
- 31:48Now, I don't want to be. It was amazing.
- 31:50That was a great class.
- 31:52My final, our final project was we had to create like a treatment for a bad science fiction movie with bad science and like create a poster for it.
- 32:03Mine was Gator Kane starring David Hasselhoff and William Shatner.
- 32:08This was three years before Sharknado was a thing.
- 32:10Someone owes me money.
- 32:11Which I still think you need to write so you don't get that stolen.
- 32:14It's already been stolen.
- 32:15Well, hey, rewrite it, write it as Gator Kane and Abel.
- 32:20Yeah, it's a morality tale.
- 32:22Yeah. Yeah.
- 32:23So I'm still just shocked that you went to an accredited school when I hear these stories.
- 32:27It's like that's your science class.
- 32:29Literally.
- 32:31I have a degree.
- 32:33It's in drawing shit, but it's an accredited degree.
- 32:36I have a degree in doodles.
- 32:38Yeah, I get it.
- 32:40Now I'm a web developer.
- 32:41Grain of salt.
- 32:42With a minor in disproving bad movie science.
- 32:45Aaron, have you seen The Core?
- 32:48I have not.
- 32:49Oh, Lord.
- 32:50I don't believe there are any sharks in that.
- 32:52There are some whales, but.
- 32:54Magma shark.
- 32:55It is incredible.
- 32:57Lava sharks. That's a movie.
- 32:58Yeah.
- 32:59Oh, yeah.
- 33:00I don't know about the sharks.
- 33:01Do they swim in the lava?
- 33:02Yes.
- 33:03Are they made of lava?
- 33:04Unclear.
- 33:05Do they just have thicker skin?
- 33:06Yeah, probably something prehistoric or the result of some experiment gone wrong.
- 33:10Yeah, that seems like often is the case.
- 33:12I'm curious as to what everyone's like favorite shark movie thing is, like either from a movie
- 33:19or a fact about a shark movie.
- 33:21I don't watch a lot of shark based cinema.
- 33:25That must have been embarrassing for you to admit.
- 33:27Yeah, in this present company.
- 33:30What about shark based cinema?
- 33:31Yeah, they have two claspers.
- 33:34Clearly, I've been missing out on a whole series of pornography, but I still think my
- 33:41favorite shark in film is the one from zombie because just a zombie fighting a shark is
- 33:48a great, great premise for me.
- 33:50I think the thing I enjoy most is trying to figure out what kind of atypical shark we're
- 33:55going to end up with because the shark is virtually always an atypical shark.
- 33:59Right.
- 34:00It's been genetically modified.
- 34:01It's prehistoric.
- 34:02It's in a place where sharks shouldn't be.
- 34:04And I just love the like the clues they're dropping and your mind churning trying to
- 34:08say, in what way is the shark going to be an absolute freak that deserves a movie about
- 34:13it?
- 34:14Three claspers.
- 34:15That would do it.
- 34:16My they just spin around like a propeller and that makes them go faster.
- 34:21That's like they fly into turbo gets a little triple boner.
- 34:25And there you go.
- 34:27My favorite hydroplanes across the ocean backwards.
- 34:30My favorite shark movie fact is from Jaws 3D.
- 34:34Michael Caine later in life being asked if he'd ever seen Jaws 3D and his response being
- 34:38no, but I saw the house it bought and it's glorious.
- 34:42So speaking of like comments about sharks at the end, they have these real little clips
- 34:46of these people that experience this and live through it.
- 34:49And you know that one of the questions that they asked was like, how do you feel about
- 34:52sharks now?
- 34:53And the old dude is just like, don't like them.
- 34:55Fucking hate them.
- 34:56Still hate those things.
- 34:57Like, yeah, dude, took your fucking leg off and ate your friend.
- 35:01Yeah.
- 35:02No, I like to go check them out.
- 35:04I really squared that with sharks.
- 35:07I know I mentioned this before, but I was talking to John last night.
- 35:11Now we were talking about the Indianapolis.
- 35:14His so our friend, John, his ex grandfather in law, so his ex's grandfather was on the
- 35:23Indianapolis and they have misspelled his name in the memorial.
- 35:28Oh, wow.
- 35:29Ouch.
- 35:30Yeah.
- 35:31Doesn't seem like it would be that hard to just fact check a name.
- 35:34Lazy.
- 35:35I don't know if it's misspelled like in the film or like the actual like on a monument
- 35:42somewhere.
- 35:43I think it's that one pretty bad, which is a lot harder to correct.
- 35:47Well, I guess once the film's out, that's a lot harder to correct because you've got
- 35:51physical distributed media.
- 35:53We're going to do a recall.
- 35:55Some dude just comes to my house every time I put the Blu Ray in and like runs a piece
- 36:00of paper with the corrected name up the screen as it goes by.
- 36:04That's job security right there.
- 36:06There's only one guy because there's could only possibly be one person watching that
- 36:10movie at any given time.
- 36:11Is it Mario Van Peebles?
- 36:13Yes.
- 36:14He's like, I'm sorry, bro.
- 36:15I really fucked this one up.
- 36:18To look up what he has worked on and he's it's weird how he's got like almost a 60 40
- 36:26split of like five star and below shit and like seven and a half and up shit.
- 36:34But I think most of the stuff that's well reviewed of his is just series like.
- 36:40And see, yes, it's like, oh, whatever.
- 36:43He did one episode.
- 36:44It probably sucked.
- 36:46C.G.I. was terrible in the sharks.
- 36:48Yeah.
- 36:49Why is why is there always a shark?
- 36:51Peter, you mentioned that they're talking to the old guys at the end is like still hate
- 36:55the sharks.
- 36:56They haven't come around on them and just made me think.
- 37:00Oh, a long time ago, I worked with some Vietnam veterans and a few of them mentioned having
- 37:04gone back to Vietnam much more recently as part of these, I don't know, kind of strange
- 37:11tourism experiences that did include some attempt at like a truth and reconciliation
- 37:17aspect in which they like met with, you know, folks who'd survived on the other side and
- 37:21like walked through the jungles together and experience each other as people, not military
- 37:26represented.
- 37:27Anyway, strange thing.
- 37:28I'm not going to pass any judgment on how well that works.
- 37:32But what I'm trying to picture right now is how great it would be if you did that for
- 37:36these guys from the USS Indianapolis and sharks.
- 37:39Well, I think you get them together with some marine biologists, some scuba outfits, some
- 37:44cages.
- 37:45You bring them back out of the Pacific.
- 37:46You lure in some sharks.
- 37:47You put them down there and then you have them learn a whole but try to understand the
- 37:51sharks and where they're coming from.
- 37:52Be like, I understand.
- 37:53That's just its drive.
- 37:54It's biological drive.
- 37:55It did what it needed to do in that moment for its own survival.
- 38:00And I respect that.
- 38:02Let's take this a step further.
- 38:03Let's do it off of Pearl Harbor.
- 38:06We'll get some Japanese soldiers as well.
- 38:08We'll put them in the water in a separate cage and they can be writing signs back and
- 38:12forth to each other while sharks swim around them.
- 38:15Healing, healing.
- 38:16Wow.
- 38:17Yeah.
- 38:18Thanks.
- 38:19I think we just solved everything.
- 38:20You know, one of those old guys is going to bring a gun down there and just start popping
- 38:24off on sharks.
- 38:25He's like, I told you I don't like sharks.
- 38:27These fuckers.
- 38:28I'm about to commit a hate crime.
- 38:33Shark hate.
- 38:34No, but then there's going to be blood in the water.
- 38:35Yeah.
- 38:36And it'll bring more sharks and he'll kill them too.
- 38:38Good.
- 38:39Yeah.
- 38:40Get all the sharks.
- 38:41Just keep getting blood.
- 38:42Not a fan.
- 38:43Not a fan of sharks.
- 38:44I'm curious what slur these guys, the racist against sharks would come up with for sharks.
- 38:50Yeah.
- 38:51OK, so I don't want to say any in case it's an actual slur for another group of people.
- 38:55You can say one and I'll just double check it.
- 38:57No, I'm probably won't.
- 38:58I'm just going to keep my mouth shut.
- 39:01Why is so they missed an incredible opportunity and just hit me now when this movie ends, it
- 39:08should have just said Finn.
- 39:09We're not going to get a better joke than that.
- 39:15This episode's over.
- 39:16We have completed the episode.
- 39:17We do have to do the quick performance review, but they're fine.
- 39:22Yeah.
- 39:23Yeah.
- 39:24So we do like a matrix, you know, good movie, good cage performance, bad movie, bad cage
- 39:28performance.
- 39:29Where does it fall on the matrix of that thoughts?
- 39:31Well, I actually don't feel qualified to speak on cage performance.
- 39:37I'm going to go with alternate matrix of, you know, good shark movie, bad shark movie,
- 39:42good movie, bad movie, right, which again are very distinct.
- 39:46And I will say bad movie and unfortunately medium bad shark.
- 39:50Yeah.
- 39:51I don't think we've ever had a guest say I won't play your game.
- 39:56Here's my.
- 39:57Here's an amended.
- 39:58Who do you think you are?
- 40:01Nick.
- 40:02Only I want.
- 40:05Yeah.
- 40:06Where do you get off?
- 40:07Oh, yeah.
- 40:08Claspers.
- 40:09Yeah.
- 40:10I got to make sure my cameras are pointed right.
- 40:11I don't know.
- 40:12OK.
- 40:13Yeah.
- 40:14I think that's that's a fair assessment from all the shark film I haven't seen.
- 40:20I've seen Jaws.
- 40:25Good good answer.
- 40:26Yep.
- 40:27I think for me, it falls in like cage's performance is fine.
- 40:31It's just they didn't give him enough to do because he's a real dude who is a serious guy
- 40:35in the military.
- 40:36It's like maybe that is still military.
- 40:39Yeah.
- 40:40What are you?
- 40:41Water military, water military, water based military.
- 40:43So many of those so many of those Navy men could not swim.
- 40:47Seaman Seaman.
- 40:48Yeah, they were bad.
- 40:49Yeah, it seems like you should maybe learn.
- 40:52Yeah, you think that'd be part of basic training.
- 40:55To be fair, if your ship goes down in the ocean, you're pretty.
- 41:00They do say that in this film.
- 41:02It's not much point in learning how to swim because where are you going to go?
- 41:05Right.
- 41:06I mean, if you had your escort, you'd be in a different situation.
- 41:08But yeah, pretty fucked.
- 41:09Sorry.
- 41:10That's why you've got the hollow lifeboats, the net boats and you just hope.
- 41:15Yeah.
- 41:16But yeah, I well, this movie was much more watchable than I assumed it would be.
- 41:22It's not that interesting.
- 41:23And Nicholas Cage doesn't really do anything in it.
- 41:26No, I've probably got one more watch of this in my lifetime.
- 41:30It's one more.
- 41:31That's about it.
- 41:32Yeah.
- 41:33Yeah.
- 41:34I mean, I watch it with my dad or something.
- 41:35OK, I do feel like because I have one of those.
- 41:38Oh, shots fired.
- 41:41Mean, you know, my father was killed by a shark.
- 41:46That comes up in a lot of shark movies.
- 41:47Yeah.
- 41:48It was a retaliation killing.
- 41:50You know what your father did.
- 41:51I know.
- 41:52I will say this movie did remind me partially of.
- 41:56You want to talk about this briefly.
- 42:00Fucking Buffalo movie.
- 42:01Oh, yeah.
- 42:02Butcher's Cross.
- 42:03And that I'm assuming the producers or director just like, hey, we have this shark footage.
- 42:08Can we just like make a movie and splice it in?
- 42:12We also have a torpedo footage that we can add.
- 42:18Anybody who just had that torpedo footage on hand and thought this is worth putting
- 42:21in a film.
- 42:22Yeah, Van Peebles made a mistake.
- 42:24Like I'm he had to have just been like, oh, shit.
- 42:28It's Tuesday morning.
- 42:29I need a torpedo.
- 42:32See what we got.
- 42:33Just that one's a Kitan.
- 42:36Yeah.
- 42:37Just floats a plastic bottle across some water.
- 42:40And it's like, here we go.
- 42:41The whole thing with the Kitan like.
- 42:45The only reason that comes up and a Kitan is a man powered torpedo like underwater kamikaze,
- 42:52which I didn't know about until this film.
- 42:54Same, same, same.
- 42:56But it comes up at the beginning of the movie.
- 42:59They show the Japanese sub fire one at a merchant vents merchant vessel like it notices it's
- 43:05a merchant vessel as it's like coming upon it and like veers off.
- 43:09OK, so I missed that part in one point seven five.
- 43:12Yeah.
- 43:13So later on, when they shoot down the Indianapolis, they don't fire a Kitan.
- 43:17And I'm like, what was the point of explained the kind at all?
- 43:21And it's only so during the court martial hearing.
- 43:25They can be asked if they if you know, the ship was hit by a Kitan or just a regular
- 43:29torpedo.
- 43:30And did that justify the fact that he did not zigzag his ship as per protocol?
- 43:34Serpentine pattern.
- 43:35Yeah, it's just it's.
- 43:36So it's a kind of a bad movie and a, you know, lackluster performance.
- 43:46It's a C minus.
- 43:47I might give it a D plus.
- 43:49C minus is good.
- 43:51C for clasper.
- 43:52Nice.
- 43:53Now, now it's a C plus because it's got to.
- 43:56All right, Aaron, any final thoughts on this one?
- 44:01No.
- 44:02Good.
- 44:03What what do you have in the shoot for your next shark and whiskey party?
- 44:09It's a great question.
- 44:12There's been a nice little bit of buzz.
- 44:13We're hoping it's not too much buzz, but a movie called Under Paris Netflix, I think,
- 44:19just put it out in the last week or two.
- 44:20And Netflix original.
- 44:21So certainly the caliber we're looking for.
- 44:24Yes.
- 44:25And yeah, some of the some of it has gone a bit viral, even just from the trailer.
- 44:29It appears that there's a strong motivation to keep this triathlon going in the water
- 44:35for kind of tourism purposes, even though there's a shark swimming in the same river
- 44:40in Paris.
- 44:41It sounds like a cream situation.
- 44:43It sure does.
- 44:44It sure does.
- 44:45Also, shark an unusual place, right?
- 44:47Like swimming in a river in a major city.
- 44:49So off to a great start.
- 44:51I think we're almost certain to watch it unless we become concerned that too many of our audience
- 44:56already watched it on their own.
- 44:58Not normally something we have to worry about.
- 44:59OK, so you've inspired another question.
- 45:02Has there ever been a shark film where the sharks are in the canals of Venice and you
- 45:08have gondolieries like there has not been a shark film that has done that.
- 45:13But in 2012 and 2013, when this event was happening monthly, one of the attendees and
- 45:19I did write a serial piece of shark fiction, a were shark in Venice, an American.
- 45:27People helped us ask it acted out as a little like pre movie warm up for us.
- 45:32So eight to 10 events in a row.
- 45:34We wrote like a little a little five chapter.
- 45:36Yeah.
- 45:37So, yeah, set fully in the canals of Venice and with a teenage love triangle.
- 45:42And one of them is turns out is a were shark.
- 45:45So who would play the badass silent gondolier who like a silent gondolier doesn't sing?
- 45:53No, he's just he's just quiet.
- 45:55He's not getting my money.
- 45:57He's just quiet and like still the whole time.
- 45:58But like fistfights, the shark Jason Statham, that's what I was thinking.
- 46:02He didn't even use the pole.
- 46:05No fistfights.
- 46:06Jesus, idiot.
- 46:07Bad gondolier breaks the pole into.
- 46:08Yeah.
- 46:09And we do already know that Jason Statham is happy to be cast in two shark movies in
- 46:13just the last few years.
- 46:14That's true.
- 46:15Since he led both Meg movies.
- 46:16OK, I was wondering if they were two different franchises.
- 46:19I know anything you want to promote other than shark and whiskey.
- 46:23No, that's most of my life.
- 46:24Yeah, that's good.
- 46:25Thank you all for listening.
- 46:28These are silly offshoot episodes.
- 46:30We'll be back to kind of our regular programming and getting into the slicks teen here soon.
- 46:37And just as soon as that child can fend for itself.
- 46:40She's probably all right.
- 46:41Yeah.
- 46:42Three weeks is about the age where you can let them free roam, right?
- 46:45Absolutely.
- 46:46Yeah.
- 46:47Yeah.
- 46:48They're holding up their head by now, right?
- 46:49Yeah.
- 46:50Done.
- 46:51Easy.
- 46:52At least put the three year old sibling in charge of them.
- 46:53Yeah.
- 46:54Yeah.
- 46:55Well, no, we give Cora a knife and we explain to her the responsibility of knife ownership.
- 47:00Good.
- 47:01And then our hands are clean.
- 47:03And then we give them we give like hers.
- 47:05Then we give the baby a gun.
- 47:07Right.
- 47:08Just in case.
- 47:09Just in case.
- 47:10It's a safety measure.
- 47:11Yeah.
- 47:12All right.
- 47:13Anyway, you can find us on social media.
- 47:14Please cut that.

- 47:41Bye bye.
- 47:44Bye bye.
- 47:50Speaking of hot dog related content, I was listening to the latest vlog from Keep It
- 47:57Classy, my favorite Australian funny folk.
- 48:00And Amber made the anecdote trying to say like a kitchenette is not talking about a
- 48:07motel, like a kitchenette is not like a mini fridge and a bathroom sink, much like a hot
- 48:12dog is an a dildo until I put it in my ass.
- 48:15God, speaking of things in holes, I put the placentas in the hole this morning.
- 48:21I keep bringing that shit up.
- 48:24And I do hope you lost your hands.
- 48:26I did.
- 48:27I appreciate.
- 48:28I'm just glad to be done with that placental hole.
- 48:33For now.
- 48:34Was it both of them?
- 48:35Yeah.
- 48:36You were just so you're just holding on to one for we had it for nearly three years in
- 48:38the freezer.
- 48:39Yeah, your face is how my face is about it, too.
- 48:44I'm glad I'm divorced.
- 48:47Well, it's kind of nice because we had our little hippie placental burial today and Cora
- 48:54and Barrett are going to get backdoor baptized later today.
- 48:58So that's when you get baptized in the butt.
- 49:02Oh, yeah.
- 49:03It's a bidet situation.
- 49:04Yeah.
- 49:05Yeah.
- 49:06The holy water cleanses you from the inside out, baby.
- 49:09So if it gets話 Entertainment This is where the
- 49:14connection comes in.
