- 0:11Hey guys, welcome back to mom gone mild.
- 0:13Hope you had an amazing week. I'm Lex your hose.
- 0:17If you're new here. Hi welcome.
- 0:20I love it. You're here if you're back,
- 0:23welcome back to my chaotic just identity crisis becoming best
- 0:30version of me. First, I want to say how
- 0:32thankful I am for all the love and support that I got from last
- 0:36week's episode. You guys are more than welcome
- 0:38to go ahead and listen to that if you haven't already.
- 0:41Today's episode might step on a few toes, mine included, because
- 0:47today we're talking about boundaries.
- 0:49I know growth, people pleasing, just motherhood, kind of in
- 0:54general, accountability. And honestly, these are not
- 0:58people's favorite topics. It's hard because when you
- 1:02realize that you're actually somebody else's villain in their
- 1:06story, not because you're cruel, not because you're selfish, not
- 1:10because you've stopped caring, not because you're cold, but
- 1:14because sometimes growth makes people uncomfortable.
- 1:17Have you noticed that? Yeah, boundaries make people
- 1:21uncomfortable, change makes people uncomfortable.
- 1:25And I think I'm in this weird phase of life where I'm kind of
- 1:29just because trying to become the best version of me.
- 1:32But I'm also kind of like in a fucking era.
- 1:35I know best of both worlds and respectfully, I genuinely do not
- 1:41care if everybody likes me anymore.
- 1:43Old legs would have had a problem with this because this
- 1:47would have ruined her entire week.
- 1:50I don't know why sometimes I talk to myself in third person,
- 1:52maybe because I don't have a guest.
- 1:53But yeah because I spent a lot of my life trying to just
- 1:58impress people for them to honestly either not give a shit
- 2:03or disrespect me. And just before somebody thinks,
- 2:07wow, victim mentality, no, because I can admit something to
- 2:12a lot of it. I allowed, I allowed a lot of
- 2:16this things to happen to me because I wanted to be accepted.
- 2:21I wanted approval. I wanted to fit this like mold
- 2:25that I thought people wanted of me.
- 2:28You know, I tried to be the easygoing daughter.
- 2:32I tried to be the understanding friend.
- 2:34I tried to be the agreeable partner that never said no.
- 2:40You know, the person who wouldn't disagree too loudly,
- 2:44the person who kept peace. And sometimes in all of that, I
- 2:49think I dimmed just like pieces of myself.
- 2:52Because blending in is easy, you know?
- 2:55What's not? Is standing out and standing up
- 2:59on your boundaries, having your own opinions disappointing
- 3:03people. That's freaking uncomfortable.
- 3:06But honestly, that's usually just where growth starts and
- 3:11motherhood. Motherhood I feel like
- 3:13accelerated that lesson real quick for me.
- 3:16For example, I had one huge rule, basically the only rule
- 3:21besides washing your hands. Don't kiss Axel when he was a
- 3:24newborn. Please don't kiss my baby.
- 3:27I thought it was simple. That was the only rule I had and
- 3:31somehow people still acted like I was depriving my child of
- 3:34love. When?
- 3:36Excuse me? Why does respecting a parent's
- 3:41boundary become controversial the second it literally
- 3:45inconveniences somebody? RSV exists.
- 3:49And you guys as a first time parent, I was scared.
- 3:52You don't understand. I'd be like at night like when I
- 3:54was pregnant watching TikTok non-stop.
- 3:57I would be like crying and you know, I don't know, you just,
- 4:02you don't have to agree with every parenting decision
- 4:05somebody makes, but you do have to respect it.
- 4:08And I think that that was like my first major motherhood
- 4:12reality check. People love boundaries until
- 4:16they are inconvenienced by them and past me would have just over
- 4:22explained. Past me would have, you know,
- 4:25worried about hurting their feelings.
- 4:27Past me would have written them like this long paragraph of
- 4:30like, I'm sorry, kind of like explaining myself and
- 4:34apologizing. But currently, no, absolutely
- 4:39not no. And that shift has been
- 4:44uncomfortable because I'm still just a girl who wants to, you
- 4:50know, have a beautiful life. I want peace.
- 4:53I want joy. I want a cozy, comfortable home
- 4:57that, you know, people can come to you without feeling awkward.
- 5:01I want my marriage to be amazing.
- 5:03I want to create family memories.
- 5:05I don't want to be cold or bitter or hard or harsh.
- 5:11But I also refuse to be a target because I'm realizing that, you
- 5:17know, soft life does not require self abandonment.
- 5:22You don't have to lose yourself. Maybe being soft doesn't mean
- 5:25you have unlimited access to me. Maybe kindness doesn't mean
- 5:30endless flexibility. You know, just maybe being a
- 5:34good person doesn't mean always saying yes to everything until
- 5:39you're exhausted, resentful, and you're just upset with them and
- 5:43they don't even know why at the end of the day because
- 5:44everything has just piled up. Maybe boundaries are part of
- 5:48protecting the life you're trying to build.
- 5:51All right, another example. So Axel's first birthday is
- 5:55coming up. I know I've been crying
- 5:57non-stop. Don't talk about it.
- 5:59But not everyone can make it. Life happens, guys.
- 6:02His birthday is in summer and I get it.
- 6:04People work, people have commitments, people travel and
- 6:07that is totally OK. But I kind of caught myself just
- 6:13wanting to rearrange everything, you know, accommodate to
- 6:16everybody. And old me probably would have
- 6:19gone through my calendar, asked every single person, like, what
- 6:22date works for you? Changed everything, changed the
- 6:25plans and just stressed myself out.
- 6:29I would have probably bent over backwards to accommodate
- 6:32everybody. And now I'm kind of like,
- 6:34genuinely, I promise you there are no hard feelings.
- 6:38We'll celebrate another day. It's all good.
- 6:41You know, everyone has their own life and you have to understand
- 6:45that as well. You can't take everything so
- 6:48personal. Like don't take this personally
- 6:50because this is just my story, but I'm learning that no problem
- 6:56doesn't always have to mean like let me sacrifice my peace to
- 7:00make this work. And that's uncomfortable
- 7:03especially for me because creating boundaries has always
- 7:06been kind of like uncomfortable for me.
- 7:09Saying no has definitely been uncomfortable for me.
- 7:12I've said yes to a lot of things that I didn't want to.
- 7:15Disappointing people is really uncomfortable, but I honestly
- 7:20feel like that's where growth lives.
- 7:22That's just, I don't know. Here's another truth before
- 7:27Axel, you guys are not going to believe this, but I was a very
- 7:30confrontational person. Maybe like my friends are going
- 7:32to be like actually I-1000 believe percent believe this.
- 7:36But if something bothered me, he would know.
- 7:38If I disagreed, you would definitely know.
- 7:42I let my just like emotions kind of run.
- 7:45I'm up and down. If I felt disrespected, I wasn't
- 7:50exactly handling it with like deep breathing exercises.
- 7:54I used to fight people. Guys, I know you guys are going
- 7:56to be like, what the hell? Like she's an adult.
- 7:58No, I know most of it came from alcohol, but I you know, and I
- 8:04didn't always win, but I am trying to be a better version of
- 8:08myself. You guys haven't seen this
- 8:10version of me. You guys have seen the mom, the
- 8:12wife, the podcast person, you know, like just talking about
- 8:17this growth, talking about like becoming her.
- 8:20And you know, I mean, I am involving and I'm not perfect.
- 8:26And This is why I'm like, you know, telling you guys this
- 8:29because maybe someone can resonate and be like, wow, you
- 8:31know, like this could be my story I'm telling.
- 8:35And you know, I'm never going to sugarcoat anything for you guys.
- 8:37I'm always going to be honest. I have built this version of me
- 8:41from Ground Zero. I was not always this
- 8:44emotionally mature person. In fact, people would say I was
- 8:47immature. I've said plenty of things I
- 8:50regret. I haven't handled everything
- 8:52perfectly. I've made mistakes.
- 8:55I've been very reactive, I've been defensive, I've been hard
- 9:00headed at times. I can admit I was not the
- 9:04easiest person to love. And I'm not saying that for like
- 9:08oh poor her pity blah blah blah. I'm saying it because I refuse
- 9:12to sit here and pretend I've always been this healed,
- 9:15peaceful, evolved human being. Absolutely not.
- 9:19This version of me, I'm currently building it.
- 9:22How am I building it? I'm building it through
- 9:24mistakes. I'm building it through the
- 9:25consequences that I've had through those mistakes, the hard
- 9:29conversations I've had to have because of them, the
- 9:32accountability that I'm holding myself accountable for.
- 9:36And just like realizing that I was the common denominator.
- 9:40And yeah, that has not been comfortable to admit because
- 9:45growth sounds really cute. I know.
- 9:48It sounds like, Oh my gosh, it's so aesthetic.
- 9:50She's healing. Boundaries sound empowering, but
- 9:55real growth, I feel like real growth is looking at older
- 9:58versions of yourself and cringing a little.
- 10:02I know I give myself the aches sometimes, thinking about like
- 10:05who I was before and just realizing like I had to grow up.
- 10:08I, I could have definitely handled situations differently.
- 10:13I'm not perfect. Yes, I was extremely petty
- 10:17person and I think everyone has kind of been there in a way,
- 10:21maybe not so extreme, but I think everyone has messed up in
- 10:25some kind of way. I think everyone has had
- 10:27immature seasons. The problem isn't making
- 10:31mistakes. That's a good thing.
- 10:33I mean, the problem is when you don't learn from them, when you
- 10:36stay stuck, when you refuse accountability, when you're
- 10:39still proudly operating from patterns that hurt you and
- 10:43everyone around you, That is not OK.
- 10:46And motherhood kind of amplified all of this for me because now
- 10:49I'm not just living for me anymore.
- 10:52I'm living for Axel. I'm living for Randy.
- 10:54You know, I've got new priorities.
- 10:57But you know, I just feel like this is a really good place to
- 11:00end it, you know? I don't know, you guys, I've
- 11:04been feeling really good. Life isn't perfect, you know,
- 11:07I'm still figuring out things. I'm still growing.
- 11:10I feel like each day I'm learning a lot.
- 11:13You know, I'm evolving. I'm learning patience.
- 11:16I have barely any of these days, but I'm learning.
- 11:19And you know, right now I'm actually in the middle of 75
- 11:22soft. I'm on day nine.
- 11:23I've officially lost 56 lbs since having Axel 10 months ago.
- 11:27And honestly, that blows my mind.
- 11:28But I feel like right now I'm just focusing on life, living
- 11:33it, growing through it, learning through it.
- 11:37And yes, I am learning a lot. I'm protecting also my peace
- 11:40while still trying to be a good human because you can do both.
- 11:44You don't have to be mean about it.
- 11:46So yeah, we have some really exciting things coming up on Mom
- 11:49Gone Mild. Also, there is currently a
- 11:51Wellness giveaway happening over on Instagram at Mom Gone Mild
- 11:55under score podcast. So please enter.
- 11:58I would absolutely love to spoil 1 lucky winner.
- 12:01So, you know, it's just let's make this week count.
- 12:04Let's focus on us. Focus on the things you can
- 12:08control. I know it's hard.
- 12:10The things you can control only and the things you can't.
- 12:15I don't know. I'm going to practice.
- 12:16Like letting it go. Is it easy for me?
- 12:19No, I never let things go. But you know what?
- 12:24I am remembering that I am not the main character in your story
- 12:29or anyone else's. No one owes me anything.
- 12:32No one, you know, owes me. Understanding, not choosing me.
- 12:37You don't owe everybody unlimited access to you either.
- 12:42That's life. What's meant to be will be.
- 12:45And you guys now I'm starting to feel like I'm a star, starting
- 12:48to sound like a little preachy. So I don't know.
- 12:50I don't know what I'm trying to give you guys a pep talk or me a
- 12:52pep talk at this point, but probably both.
- 12:55Anyways, I love you guys. So like always, same time, same
- 12:59place next week. So if you guys can please
- 13:02subscribe, follow, share, hit all the buttons, you know what I
- 13:06mean? And yeah, just like always, I
- 13:09love you guys and thank you guys for this time, this space.
- 13:12Have a great week.
