- 0:38Speaker 1: Hey out there to all of our friends from Banter Town,
- 0:40Speaker 1: this is John. As you've probably heard by now after
- 0:42Speaker 1: 10 years of Talk About That episodes airing most every week,
- 0:46Speaker 1: Johnny and I have hit an especially busy season in
- 0:49Speaker 1: both of our lives that has required us to take
- 0:51Speaker 1: a little hiatus from weekly episodes. Hey, but fear not.
- 0:55Speaker 1: We'd still like to bring you some of the best
- 0:57Speaker 1: of Talk About That. These are some of our most
- 0:59Speaker 1: downloaded episodes from the past several years. So whether you're
- 1:03Speaker 1: hearing these conversations again or discovering them for the first time,
- 1:07Speaker 1: we hope you'll enjoy diving back into some of our
- 1:10Speaker 1: favorite talks. As always, thanks so much for listening, and
- 1:13Speaker 1: we hope you enjoy this episode.
- 1:18Speaker 2: Life Audio.
- 1:24Speaker 3: Today on Talk About That, John gets secret messages in
- 1:26Speaker 3: his ear during worship and ponders whether we need merch. Meanwhile,
- 1:31Speaker 3: I get interviewed by an 80s comedy icon and tell
- 1:33Speaker 3: you the demographic of my fan base. Plus a conversation
- 1:37Speaker 3: about reactionaryism, revolution, and choosing hope over fear. Today's episode
- 1:42Speaker 3: is not sponsored by Grapefruit. If you like oranges, try
- 1:44Speaker 3: their bitter overweight cousin. But first, a word from our
- 1:47Speaker 3: actual sponsor.
- 1:51Speaker 2: Grapefruit.
- 1:56Speaker 1: Well, you made it back for another episode. Thanks, man,
- 1:58Speaker 1: for finding us on your podcast app.
- 2:01Speaker 3: Or whoever you are.
- 2:03Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:03Speaker 3: Why do you think it's all men? What do you
- 2:05Speaker 3: think are.
- 2:05Speaker 2: I didn't say men. You said, thanks, man. Oh, well,
- 2:08Speaker 2: it's an expression.
- 2:09Speaker 1: I say.
- 2:10Speaker 2: Hey, guys. I say, what's up, dude, to my daughter sometimes.
- 2:13Speaker 3: That's true.
- 2:13Speaker 2: Does she call you bruh? Yeah, sometimes. Really, bruh?
- 2:17Speaker 3: What do you think the dynamics are if we were
- 2:18Speaker 3: to divide it up? Like, who is listening to the show?
- 2:20Speaker 3: Do we have any data like that?
- 2:22Speaker 2: I don't think we have... The dynamics of male versus female. Huh.
- 2:26Speaker 2: Versus is a strong word. Sorry, guys.
- 2:28Speaker 3: That's true. I don't know why we... It's not battle
- 2:30Speaker 3: of sexes.
- 2:30Speaker 2: No, I'm trying to hit you against each other.
- 2:31Speaker 3: Do we want to... Would we want to see it?
- 2:33Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 2:34Speaker 3: Because, you know, I have it for my social media
- 2:36Speaker 3: pages because it dials it in for you.
- 2:38Speaker 2: Well, what's the... What do you think?
- 2:40Speaker 3: If you were to guess, what is the average median
- 2:43Speaker 3: block of ages for my fans and what do you
- 2:45Speaker 3: think the average gender?
- 2:47Speaker 2: Okay, I'm going to say... Or the 70-30, 80-20, whatever
- 2:48Speaker 2: it is.
- 2:49Speaker 3: I'm going to say it's 65-35 women.
- 2:54Speaker 1: And I'm going to say women 30 to 35.
- 2:57Speaker 2: It is 70-30. Women?
- 3:01Speaker 3: Women.
- 3:02Speaker 2: Close.
- 3:02Speaker 3: And it is the biggest chunk of them are, yeah,
- 3:07Speaker 3: 35 and up. So really 40 to 60.
- 3:09Speaker 2: Okay.
- 3:11Speaker 3: For whatever reason.
- 3:13Speaker 2: I can't imagine why.
- 3:14Speaker 3: I mean, it's weird, too, because I don't think of
- 3:16Speaker 3: myself as an older person. So I'm like, I'm middle-aged.
- 3:21Speaker 2: That's you.
- 3:22Speaker 3: It's me.
- 3:23Speaker 2: Yeah. It's you.
- 3:25Speaker 3: I'm grateful that they're listening. And they come to the
- 3:27Speaker 3: shows and they're very excited. And they all want photos
- 3:30Speaker 3: and hugs.
- 3:30Speaker 2: Well, the good news is they can afford the ticket.
- 3:31Speaker 3: They're very sweet. That's what I'm saying. And they buy merch.
- 3:33Speaker 3: Let me say that. And I'm grateful for that. Yeah.
- 3:36Speaker 3: And now Curry's behind the table. I will say taking
- 3:38Speaker 3: Curry out because we talked last week about Curry feeling
- 3:40Speaker 3: haggard on the road with me, which is true. And
- 3:42Speaker 3: I feel bad for her sometimes. But I'm so glad
- 3:44Speaker 3: she's there because she's such a big help. And also,
- 3:48Speaker 3: people like buying a t-shirt from a cute girl. Because plus,
- 3:51Speaker 3: I've made fun of her in the show. And they're like,
- 3:53Speaker 3: Bless your heart. What's it like being married to this clown?
- 3:56Speaker 2: Take this extra tip.
- 3:56Speaker 3: Please. Exactly. We don't need change. You're in our prayers.
- 4:02Speaker 3: And it's great.
- 4:04Speaker 2: Hey, you know what we don't have?
- 4:05Speaker 3: What's that?
- 4:06Speaker 2: We don't have any talk about that merch at your table.
- 4:09Speaker 3: That's right. We should get something, because people are listening
- 4:11Speaker 3: and they come to the shows now. They're like, oh,
- 4:12Speaker 3: I listen to the podcast all the time.
- 4:13Speaker 2: We should have a Banter Town shirt made up or something.
- 4:15Speaker 3: I don't know about a shirt. Shirts are risky, because
- 4:17Speaker 3: you've got to buy all these different sizes of them.
- 4:19Speaker 2: But you're taking the risk. I'm okay with it.
- 4:21Speaker 3: Oh.
- 4:22Speaker 2: That's fine.
- 4:22Speaker 3: It needs to be like a pin or a button.
- 4:25Speaker 3: You know, so I did a show this weekend, two
- 4:28Speaker 3: shows at a club, and the guy who opened for me,
- 4:31Speaker 3: he's got a dry bar specialist. His name's Adam Bush. Well,
- 4:34Speaker 3: Adam has these buttons that he sells, and they're like
- 4:37Speaker 3: a little of a metal kind, you know, with a
- 4:38Speaker 3: little in the back, a little safety pin thing in
- 4:40Speaker 3: the back. And they got some of his little punch
- 4:42Speaker 3: lines on them. And I'm like, this is genius. And
- 4:44Speaker 3: he goes, yeah, I bought a button making machine. So
- 4:46Speaker 3: as long as you know how to do like, if
- 4:48Speaker 3: you can print your own little.
- 4:49Speaker 2: I think we have one of those at our house.
- 4:51Speaker 3: You have a button making machine?
- 4:52Speaker 2: I bought one for Sadie when she was little for Christmas.
- 4:53Speaker 2: Get yourself out of here. Yeah. If it's still there,
- 4:55Speaker 2: do you want to borrow it?
- 4:56Speaker 3: Yeah, I do. Because what he does is he goes, uh,
- 4:59Speaker 3: it's a great staging area for a joke. He says like,
- 5:01Speaker 3: if you go, well, this would be fun. And he goes,
- 5:02Speaker 3: then I'll move it to t-shirt. If the buttons are
- 5:04Speaker 3: really like moving.
- 5:05Speaker 2: I was like, this is perfect.
- 5:07Speaker 3: So, uh, he goes like, like a quarter in each button,
- 5:10Speaker 3: maybe in raw materials. But he goes, I just let
- 5:13Speaker 3: people pay what they want. So sometimes people leave a dollar.
- 5:15Speaker 3: Sometimes people leave a 20 and take a button. I'm like,
- 5:18Speaker 3: I'm getting buttons.
- 5:19Speaker 2: That's a great idea.
- 5:19Speaker 3: Yeah. So I think a talk about that button would
- 5:22Speaker 3: be where I would start it. And then if it
- 5:24Speaker 3: gets to, if you graduate to the level of t-shirt,
- 5:27Speaker 3: I'll let you know.
- 5:28Speaker 2: Okay.
- 5:28Speaker 3: Okay.
- 5:29Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 5:29Speaker 1: It's going to, yeah, it's going to, uh, it's going
- 5:32Speaker 1: to take, uh, I mean, I've only done 350 episodes.
- 5:39Speaker 3: Um, it's not that John, it's just, you're, how do
- 5:44Speaker 3: I say this? Your appeal is limited.
- 5:48Speaker 2: Okay.
- 5:48Speaker 3: I'm kidding around. No, you're not.
- 5:49Speaker 2: My appeal is limited, Johnny, and I'm okay with that.
- 5:51Speaker 3: John, I did another podcast this weekend.
- 5:54Speaker 1: I know.
- 5:54Speaker 2: It was very offended.
- 5:55Speaker 3: Well, I was invited to be on a podcast with
- 5:58Speaker 3: Yakov Smirnoff. And when you told me, it's like one
- 6:00Speaker 3: of your childhood heroes, right? Yeah, it's just like, I mean,
- 6:02Speaker 3: I grew up as such an 80s comedy nerd. And
- 6:05Speaker 3: so these were like my rock stars. So if you
- 6:07Speaker 3: did comedy in the 80s and I saw you on
- 6:09Speaker 3: television and then I get to meet you, you know,
- 6:11Speaker 3: 30 years later, 40, I mean, that's amazing.
- 6:13Speaker 2: So what's better than that?
- 6:14Speaker 3: He was so kind and He asked me all these
- 6:16Speaker 3: questions about my childhood and, you know, making my mom laugh.
- 6:20Speaker 3: He asked about like, what was the first person you,
- 6:22Speaker 3: when did you know you wanted to do this? And
- 6:23Speaker 3: so we started talking about our moms and it was
- 6:25Speaker 3: just a really cool, like heartfelt. So I don't know
- 6:26Speaker 3: when that'll be released, but look for that podcast with
- 6:29Speaker 3: Yakov Smirnoff. It's called the comedy couch.
- 6:31Speaker 2: That's what he got.
- 6:32Speaker 3: I was like, wow, I can't believe that wasn't taken.
- 6:33Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 6:34Speaker 3: Comedy couch.
- 6:35Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 6:36Speaker 3: We couldn't, I was like, what about talking about that?
- 6:38Speaker 3: He goes, I don't see it.
- 6:40Speaker 1: Like I found our first pilot.
- 6:44Speaker 2: I don't think it was ever published, episode that we
- 6:45Speaker 2: just tried to do a podcast.
- 6:47Speaker 3: Right.
- 6:47Speaker 2: From like 2016. We called it Hear Me Out.
- 6:50Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 6:51Speaker 2: And I'm sure that was already taken. Probably.
- 6:53Speaker 3: There's probably a few Hear Me Outs, which there's some
- 6:54Speaker 3: talk about. There's less talk about that.
- 6:56Speaker 2: Let's talk about that. But there is no talk about that.
- 6:58Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 6:58Speaker 2: We're the only ones.
- 7:00Speaker 3: And even if there is, you could be like, talk
- 7:01Speaker 3: about that with John and Johnny. Right.
- 7:02Speaker 2: Because you have the little sub.
- 7:04Speaker 3: You know, there's always that.
- 7:05Speaker 2: Right, right.
- 7:05Speaker 3: Thing of like, comedy couch with John and John.
- 7:08Speaker 1: Oh.
- 7:09Speaker 3: Oh. Yock off.
- 7:10Speaker 2: Watch yourself. It might be a knockoff of the Yock Off.
- 7:13Speaker 3: Wait.
- 7:13Speaker 2: Wait.
- 7:14Speaker 3: Knock off, smear it off. I will say this. I
- 7:17Speaker 3: asked him what I would consider an uncomfortable question because
- 7:20Speaker 3: I just couldn't get out of my own head. And
- 7:22Speaker 3: I was like, I had no idea how he was
- 7:24Speaker 3: going to react because I was like, he could fly
- 7:25Speaker 3: off the handle. Because we were just talking about his
- 7:27Speaker 3: career and this night show because I wanted to know
- 7:29Speaker 3: all that stuff. Because he was asking about me and
- 7:30Speaker 3: I was like, let's talk about you for a second.
- 7:32Speaker 3: I started kind of interviewing him. Because I was like,
- 7:34Speaker 3: I remember all this stuff you're talking about. I remember
- 7:36Speaker 3: you performing for Reagan and all of it. Tell me,
- 7:39Speaker 3: did they vet your material? Did you tell him everything
- 7:42Speaker 3: you were going to say? So he starts telling me
- 7:43Speaker 3: about it. And then I said, I got to ask
- 7:46Speaker 3: you this question and I do not know how you're
- 7:48Speaker 3: going to react. But when I was a kid, one
- 7:51Speaker 3: of the specials I remember on HBO, I don't even
- 7:55Speaker 3: know how I watched it because I don't know if
- 7:57Speaker 3: we had, we didn't have HBO, but somehow I watched
- 7:59Speaker 3: the HBO special that Billy Crystal did. It was called
- 8:02Speaker 3: midnight train to Moscow. I've referenced it on the pod
- 8:04Speaker 3: before because he did like five minutes of material in Russian.
- 8:07Speaker 3: And then he did, he was speaking as our all
- 8:10Speaker 3: Russian audience. And then he did a material. It was
- 8:13Speaker 3: political in nature, but it was very– this is the
- 8:15Speaker 3: Glasnost era. It was very perestroika. So it was very
- 8:18Speaker 3: like let's unite. The summits had happened. Gorbachev.
- 8:20Speaker 2: All this was happening.
- 8:21Speaker 3: So the fall was right around the corner if it
- 8:23Speaker 3: hadn't already happened.
- 8:24Speaker 2: It was probably 87, 88.
- 8:24Speaker 3: So the fall of the wall is coming. And I said,
- 8:28Speaker 3: all this happened, and I remember liking that a lot.
- 8:30Speaker 3: But I also remember thinking, even as a kid that
- 8:32Speaker 3: did not understand the industry of comedy, I thought, I
- 8:35Speaker 3: wonder what Yakov Smirnov thinks about this. And he goes, yeah.
- 8:39Speaker 3: And then he kind of smiled. He didn't get, I thought,
- 8:42Speaker 3: is he going to be like, actually, it was very
- 8:43Speaker 3: painful because he ripped off my, he didn't, he was very,
- 8:46Speaker 3: he was very congenial about it. He goes, well, he
- 8:49Speaker 3: had family history. He had Russian relatives. So it's part
- 8:54Speaker 3: of his ethnicity, part of his background. So it made
- 8:57Speaker 3: sense for him to go back and do this thing.
- 8:59Speaker 3: But it also was kind of like, yeah, you are
- 9:01Speaker 3: kind of horning in on my thing. And it is
- 9:04Speaker 3: a strange feeling. And I go, it's like, You haven't
- 9:06Speaker 3: monopolized being a Russian comic. And it wasn't like he
- 9:08Speaker 3: was doing the I'm a fish out of water thing.
- 9:10Speaker 3: Like Yakov's whole thing was I'm in America and it's
- 9:13Speaker 3: very disorienting. And let me tell you all the things
- 9:15Speaker 3: about America that I noticed that you don't notice because
- 9:17Speaker 3: you're enveloped in it. And that was his whole, it
- 9:19Speaker 3: was beautiful. And he kind of gave us that little
- 9:22Speaker 3: like perspective on it. And Billy Crystal wasn't trying to
- 9:24Speaker 3: do that, but it definitely was a little bit of a, Hey,
- 9:27Speaker 3: I like what you're doing Yakov. Let me see if
- 9:29Speaker 3: I can get in on this Russian thing. But it
- 9:31Speaker 3: was a very kind of a pipe bomb kind of
- 9:33Speaker 3: a question. Like I do not know what it, We're live.
- 9:36Speaker 3: I mean, we're not live, but I mean, I guess
- 9:37Speaker 3: you could just edit it out.
- 9:38Speaker 2: I hate Billy Crystal. And you're like, oh, no. What
- 9:42Speaker 2: have I done? I love that you pushed the envelope.
- 9:44Speaker 3: I could not. I just thought as a fan of
- 9:47Speaker 3: both of them, I want to know. I mean, I
- 9:49Speaker 3: love Billy Crystal and I love Yakov. I want to know, like,
- 9:51Speaker 3: did you guys have a beef over this?
- 9:53Speaker 2: You could create a peace summit to unite them.
- 9:56Speaker 3: I think it needs to happen.
- 9:58Speaker 2: We'll come to a bridge and we'll meet in the middle. Yes.
- 10:01Speaker 3: At long last.
- 10:02Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 10:02Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 10:03Speaker 2: The blood feud can end.
- 10:04Speaker 1: We'll bring down the wall of comedy between, wait.
- 10:09Speaker 3: Mr. Smirnoff, tear down. I don't know. But that was
- 10:14Speaker 3: pretty cool and that was a fun experience.
- 10:15Speaker 2: That's great.
- 10:16Speaker 3: Yeah. But I say that to say that I've done
- 10:18Speaker 3: other podcasts with comedians and generally I do not like
- 10:21Speaker 3: it as much as ours because there's a dynamic between
- 10:26Speaker 3: us that I can't quite put my finger on. But
- 10:29Speaker 3: if I was to put a word, if I was
- 10:30Speaker 3: to put a phrase to it, it would be that
- 10:32Speaker 3: you know You're very respectful about when to lay back
- 10:36Speaker 3: and you don't have this thing in you that needs
- 10:38Speaker 3: to like top like comedians tend to want to top
- 10:40Speaker 3: each other they don't mean to but they just go
- 10:43Speaker 3: oh yeah.
- 10:43Speaker 2: I worked there and they go i was in vegas
- 10:46Speaker 2: then and they have to.
- 10:46Speaker 3: Tell their vegas story yeah they can't just listen to
- 10:49Speaker 3: your and for whatever reason like you just let me.
- 10:52Speaker 1: Go well i think it's uh I think I know
- 10:57Speaker 1: I'm not going to top it.
- 10:59Speaker 2: Yeah. No, no, no.
- 11:00Speaker 3: It's not that.
- 11:00Speaker 2: It's not even that.
- 11:01Speaker 3: It is, but it's also, I just think there's a,
- 11:04Speaker 3: obviously it's 20 something, 28 years of friendship and it's,
- 11:07Speaker 3: there's a respect there, but I just have done, but
- 11:10Speaker 3: I will say the Yakov one, I liked a lot
- 11:12Speaker 3: and I am leaving this show to go do a podcast.
- 11:16Speaker 2: It was an interesting segue, setting it up that you
- 11:18Speaker 2: like ours better.
- 11:19Speaker 3: I appreciate what you brought and you've taught me what
- 11:21Speaker 3: I need. And now that Yakov has given me that,
- 11:24Speaker 3: we're done. Yeah.
- 11:25Speaker 2: This sounds like my first agent.
- 11:29Speaker 3: I didn't know this about myself. And now that I've
- 11:31Speaker 3: outgrown you, I wanted.
- 11:33Speaker 2: To talk about it.
- 11:34Speaker 3: Right.
- 11:34Speaker 2: I think it's time. Yeah.
- 11:36Speaker 3: That's one of the more condescending things that's come out
- 11:38Speaker 3: of like weaponized therapy talk in our culture is when
- 11:42Speaker 3: you talk about outgrowing a person.
- 11:44Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 11:44Speaker 3: I feel like I've just kind of outgrown my friends. Yeah.
- 11:48Speaker 3: And you go, please don't tell them that. Please don't
- 11:51Speaker 3: ever use the words out. I love you, but I
- 11:53Speaker 3: feel like I've outgrown you. What a condescending, horrible thing
- 11:56Speaker 3: to say to somebody. I've grown and you've not.
- 12:01Speaker 1: It's a hard balance. Again, there's relationships you need to end.
- 12:05Speaker 1: There's relationships you need to put boundaries up. All those things.
- 12:08Speaker 1: And then also, there's relationships where you need to endure
- 12:12Speaker 1: and grow together.
- 12:14Speaker 3: Yeah, and just because you don't hang out with somebody
- 12:16Speaker 3: as much anymore doesn't mean you have to brand them
- 12:18Speaker 3: a toxic person. You can just go like, We don't
- 12:20Speaker 3: have as much in common anymore. When I see them,
- 12:22Speaker 3: it's cool, but you don't have to be like, there's
- 12:24Speaker 3: got to be a reason behind this.
- 12:25Speaker 2: They're toxic. Stop it.
- 12:28Speaker 3: There are toxic people, and many of them are listeners.
- 12:32Speaker 3: We love our toxic listeners. John, how would you support
- 12:36Speaker 3: the show if you wanted to as a non-toxic listener?
- 12:39Speaker 2: You go to talkaboutthatpodcast.com.
- 12:41Speaker 3: If you click on that upper right-hand link, John, you
- 12:43Speaker 3: can find ads. No, you can't.
- 12:47Speaker 1: Click on the upper right-hand link, John. You can find
- 12:50Speaker 1: ad-free content by supporting the show.
- 12:53Speaker 3: Why would you go there to click on to get ads?
- 12:55Speaker 3: It doesn't make any sense.
- 12:56Speaker 2: Because if you're not getting enough ads in your life,
- 12:58Speaker 2: have we got the thing for you? Ads. The upper
- 13:00Speaker 2: right-hand corner of our website. The upper right-hand corner. More
- 13:02Speaker 2: just splashing at you.
- 13:03Speaker 3: Wonderful.
- 13:04Speaker 2: Beautiful.
- 13:04Speaker 3: John, if you want to send a note to the show,
- 13:06Speaker 3: a little message of encouragement or a proper scolding.
- 13:11Speaker 2: Yes. That we deserve. We do.
- 13:13Speaker 3: From time to time. Lately, people have been noticing... And
- 13:16Speaker 3: they love to point out when we make a historical mistake,
- 13:19Speaker 3: an error. We say radar when we mean sonar. We
- 13:23Speaker 3: say dearth when we mean something else. They love that.
- 13:31Speaker 3: And I think there's something about that. And that's a
- 13:34Speaker 3: weakness on their part because they need to point out
- 13:37Speaker 3: our flaws to make themselves feel better. No, we're glad.
- 13:39Speaker 2: We're happy to get notes from you guys and we
- 13:41Speaker 2: love it.
- 13:42Speaker 3: So hello at TalkAboutThatPodcast.com. to do that and thanks for
- 13:45Speaker 3: our to our supporters and our listeners but john it
- 13:48Speaker 3: is time to hear from a few of our fine
- 13:49Speaker 3: sponsors because we got to keep these lights on look
- 13:52Speaker 3: at all these lights in this room watch us on
- 13:54Speaker 3: youtube and you'll see we've got lights everywhere now those
- 13:57Speaker 3: aren't free and we appreciate our sponsors let's hear from
- 13:59Speaker 3: a couple of those.
- 14:09Speaker 2: And we're back. Johnny's about that time.
- 14:12Speaker 3: Oh.
- 14:12Speaker 1: That's my quote of the week. It's a segment we
- 14:14Speaker 1: call They Talked About That. That's a little bend that time.
- 14:29Speaker 3: That one's not going to.
- 14:30Speaker 1: No, it's horrible.
- 14:31Speaker 3: I got a bad feeling about that one. I'll fix
- 14:34Speaker 3: it in post.
- 14:34Speaker 2: I got to sing Sunday.
- 14:36Speaker 3: Is that right?
- 14:36Speaker 2: And preached. Sung and preached.
- 14:38Speaker 3: Normally, that was like you didn't like that.
- 14:41Speaker 2: No, it just happened.
- 14:42Speaker 1: We'd move some scheduling around, and one was already booked,
- 14:44Speaker 1: and then some people were out of town.
- 14:45Speaker 2: It just made sense to go ahead. But I got
- 14:47Speaker 2: to sing with Bethany. That was fun. Oh, geez.
- 14:50Speaker 3: It's like the best safety net, too, because the harmonies
- 14:52Speaker 3: are so great.
- 14:53Speaker 2: And I had Kiko on the drums and he has
- 14:56Speaker 2: the band leader mic.
- 14:57Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 14:57Speaker 2: So like there's one song I'd never led before.
- 14:59Speaker 1: And like during practices, I do help me out and
- 15:01Speaker 1: he'd come in while he's playing drums and help me know.
- 15:04Speaker 2: The melody of the next line. Really?
- 15:06Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 15:06Speaker 2: He was great.
- 15:07Speaker 3: He was like, when did the band leader mic thing
- 15:09Speaker 3: off air start coming into churches? Like the people are
- 15:13Speaker 3: in your ears going like, all right, second verse is
- 15:14Speaker 3: coming up, John.
- 15:15Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 15:16Speaker 3: Don't miss this. Don't miss this. Oh, you blew it.
- 15:18Speaker 2: All right.
- 15:18Speaker 3: Get back on beat. Like they can do that. And
- 15:21Speaker 3: the people in the audience aren't hearing that. Exactly. Has
- 15:23Speaker 3: there ever been an instance in a church where they
- 15:25Speaker 3: got piped out?
- 15:25Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 15:25Speaker 3: That'd be great. It's almost like taking your wireless mic
- 15:28Speaker 3: to the bathroom with you.
- 15:29Speaker 2: I did mess up the intro.
- 15:31Speaker 1: Oh boy.
- 15:32Speaker 2: Cause you do also have a, a cue in the track.
- 15:35Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 15:35Speaker 1: A lady's voice going course two, three, like it tells
- 15:38Speaker 1: you what's coming. And when you first get started, that
- 15:41Speaker 1: little surge of adrenaline.
- 15:42Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 15:42Speaker 2: We're playing. It sounds good.
- 15:44Speaker 1: And it was a longer intro than I thought. And
- 15:46Speaker 1: I started singing, but it said intro again. And I
- 15:49Speaker 1: started singing. And then Kiko's like, not yet.
- 15:51Speaker 2: Not yet. I was like, okay. And I backed out.
- 15:52Speaker 2: I was like, all right, guys, now we're really ready.
- 15:54Speaker 2: And I was kind of, you know, and I think
- 15:55Speaker 2: the rest of the time we were okay.
- 15:57Speaker 3: It's like when the port speaker goes, who wants to
- 15:59Speaker 3: learn a brand new song this week?
- 16:01Speaker 2: Like you were like, I'm going to learn a brand
- 16:03Speaker 2: new song this week. Right now. I don't even know it.
- 16:06Speaker 2: We'll all learn together.
- 16:07Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 16:08Speaker 2: It was fun. Pick a melody and go with it.
- 16:10Speaker 2: He's got to go.
- 16:11Speaker 3: Well, you did it, and I heard great things about
- 16:13Speaker 3: the service, John.
- 16:13Speaker 2: Oh, I know.
- 16:14Speaker 3: People are, there's a buzz.
- 16:15Speaker 2: There, that was a fly. There was a buzz about
- 16:19Speaker 2: that service. Anyway, John, quote of the week.
- 16:21Speaker 3: G.K.
- 16:21Speaker 2: Chesterton. I mean, Johnny, he's always good for a good quote.
- 16:25Speaker 3: Amazing.
- 16:25Speaker 2: Amazing.
- 16:26Speaker 3: One of my favorites, basically. I mean, C.S. Lewis, G.K.,
- 16:29Speaker 3: I mean, G.K., I find myself quoting G.K.
- 16:31Speaker 2: As much as C.S. Lewis. Yeah. Go ahead.
- 16:34Speaker 1: The true soldier fights not because he hates what is
- 16:37Speaker 1: in front of him, but because he loves what is
- 16:39Speaker 1: behind him.
- 16:41Speaker 3: When he wrote this, it probably was what?
- 16:42Speaker 2: World War... I don't know the date.
- 16:45Speaker 3: Do you think it would have been, had a war
- 16:46Speaker 3: background and he was actually talking about it? I don't
- 16:51Speaker 3: want you to.
- 16:52Speaker 2: There's always a war going on, but I just want
- 16:54Speaker 2: to see G.K.
- 16:55Speaker 3: Chesterton. What his lifespan would have been when he possibly
- 16:58Speaker 3: said this.
- 16:59Speaker 2: So we got a thing going here right now.
- 17:03Speaker 1: So he was, yeah, 1874 to... 1936. So very possibly
- 17:08Speaker 1: World War I.
- 17:09Speaker 2: Or two. No, no, we're on two yet.
- 17:11Speaker 3: Sorry.
- 17:12Speaker 2: World War I or several British things happening in the
- 17:16Speaker 2: middle of all that. Yeah.
- 17:17Speaker 1: At any rate, if you guys are watching online, like
- 17:20Speaker 1: we're doing some pretty cool stuff where I'm actually searching
- 17:22Speaker 1: live on the big screen.
- 17:23Speaker 3: Oh, man. That's exactly what people want to see.
- 17:25Speaker 2: They love it.
- 17:28Speaker 1: I think there's a lot of talk. There's a lot
- 17:29Speaker 1: of co-opting in our language and our vernacular about fighting
- 17:35Speaker 1: and soldiering. And, um, I know some actual soldiers and
- 17:39Speaker 1: of course, Chris is on staff here and he's a veteran.
- 17:42Speaker 2: And, um, you know, the thing.
- 17:44Speaker 1: About it, and he's done a lot of amazing things,
- 17:47Speaker 1: like amazing, amazing things and multiple tours. There is a
- 17:53Speaker 1: sense of, I never forget one time we were having
- 17:55Speaker 1: a conversation before I hired him, I think. Um, and
- 17:58Speaker 1: I actually ask now when I do interview questions, some
- 18:01Speaker 1: things that aren't politically charged, um, But they're to try
- 18:05Speaker 1: to make sure that someone doesn't come in who's going
- 18:07Speaker 1: to feel attacked or hyper offended because we can be
- 18:10Speaker 1: open here on our staff and just say, you know,
- 18:12Speaker 1: we can talk freely. Right.
- 18:13Speaker 2: And so I'll be like, hey, if you heard this
- 18:15Speaker 2: and I'll just say something political.
- 18:16Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 18:18Speaker 1: Not from the stage and like that. If you heard
- 18:20Speaker 1: this from very generations around our staff table.
- 18:23Speaker 2: Yeah. Would that be offensive to you or whatever? You know,
- 18:26Speaker 2: if you heard someone did this and that.
- 18:27Speaker 1: And he I remember I asked him that question and
- 18:31Speaker 1: he said, you know, it would not offend me because.
- 18:35Speaker 1: I fought so that people could have the right to
- 18:38Speaker 1: say things like that, even if it were things I
- 18:41Speaker 1: didn't agree with. And that, to me, is a true soldier.
- 18:44Speaker 1: That's what Chesterton says. There's such a thing as a
- 18:47Speaker 1: true soldier. Not just those who are saying, I'm fighting,
- 18:50Speaker 1: I'm fighting.
- 18:51Speaker 2: And I'm not. I'm not a soldier, right? I did
- 18:54Speaker 2: not have the honor of serving.
- 18:56Speaker 1: But I love that idea that what we fight for
- 19:00Speaker 1: doesn't have to be because we hate something.
- 19:03Speaker 2: And that's a really hard line right now. in our world. Right.
- 19:06Speaker 1: I don't even think hate, there was a day, if
- 19:08Speaker 1: we just said this 15 years ago, we'd have been like, well,
- 19:11Speaker 1: I can't think of hardly anybody I really hate. Right.
- 19:14Speaker 2: If you ask people today, I think most of them
- 19:16Speaker 2: would easily name someone.
- 19:17Speaker 3: Yeah. Before you could think about what you were for,
- 19:20Speaker 3: you could almost always think of a list of what
- 19:21Speaker 3: you were against or who you were against.
- 19:23Speaker 2: You're imagining a people group.
- 19:25Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah.
- 19:26Speaker 2: It's very, it's very reactionary.
- 19:27Speaker 1: Like again, if in, in political science, the, the, the,
- 19:32Speaker 1: if you talk about revolutions, there's very, levels of them,
- 19:35Speaker 1: but a leftist-based revolution you would call a.
- 19:40Speaker 2: Revolution.
- 19:41Speaker 1: A right-based revolution you call reactionaryism, meaning there's different levels
- 19:50Speaker 1: of how you come at it. One is by taking
- 19:53Speaker 1: down a corrupt system. Another is by creating a someone
- 19:59Speaker 1: to be against that we all react to yeah right
- 20:02Speaker 1: um that may not necessarily be at the top but
- 20:05Speaker 1: maybe someone at the bottom in hitler's case the jews
- 20:08Speaker 1: or whomever like you create someone.
- 20:09Speaker 3: Right they're responsible for your lot in life.
- 20:11Speaker 1: Right versus someone at the top that you gotta we
- 20:13Speaker 1: got to dethrone or whatever and i think reactionary ism
- 20:18Speaker 1: is is dangerous because it does it it it finds
- 20:21Speaker 1: what you are scared of and i know we read
- 20:25Speaker 1: a quote one time that my therapist actually talked about
- 20:28Speaker 1: like when you find what makes you angry then you
- 20:32Speaker 1: find what you care about that actually is a sign
- 20:35Speaker 1: of something you care about yeah if we get you
- 20:37Speaker 1: afraid or angry and we're we're getting into your security
- 20:40Speaker 1: center we're getting to a place where These are what
- 20:44Speaker 1: you value or what you value for yourself or for
- 20:46Speaker 1: your family. And I just, I love the idea that
- 20:49Speaker 1: I want to be fighting for someone, not against someone, right?
- 20:55Speaker 1: I'm fighting for someone. And it's hard because to fight,
- 20:59Speaker 1: you have to fight against someone. So I think this
- 21:01Speaker 1: is about a matter of the heart. Jesus most certainly
- 21:06Speaker 1: spoke against the Pharisees. But when a Pharisee came to
- 21:10Speaker 1: him by night, he didn't turn him away. like Nicodemus,
- 21:13Speaker 1: like he wasn't, you know, he, the, the fight wasn't
- 21:16Speaker 1: against flesh and blood. It was against the spirit of
- 21:20Speaker 1: that age and, and the again, co-opting of his father's
- 21:26Speaker 1: kingdom for human gain and human approval. And while you're
- 21:32Speaker 1: exploiting the widow, the orphan, the immigrant, the refugee, while
- 21:37Speaker 1: you're trampling on the poor, I mean, that's where Jesus said, no,
- 21:41Speaker 1: we're not going to do this. When he turned over
- 21:43Speaker 1: the tables, and we'd love to talk about that as something.
- 21:46Speaker 1: Jesus was powerful and he turned over tables. Like, one,
- 21:49Speaker 1: I don't think it was very reactionary. And the reason is,
- 21:52Speaker 1: you probably remember this saying this in youth a lot.
- 21:54Speaker 1: If you read that passage, the Bible says he fashioned
- 21:57Speaker 1: the whip. And so I always, I used to joke
- 22:00Speaker 1: with the kids that he was just sitting in a corner,
- 22:02Speaker 1: like just weaving something together.
- 22:03Speaker 2: And the disciples are like. what are you doing, Jesus?
- 22:06Speaker 2: He's like, you'll see.
- 22:07Speaker 3: Yeah, making a whip.
- 22:09Speaker 1: Like, you know, it wasn't like, he knew what he
- 22:11Speaker 1: was doing, but his issue was, as you're cheating people,
- 22:15Speaker 1: you're charging more than the law requires for things for
- 22:20Speaker 1: people to come sacrifice to try to make themselves right
- 22:22Speaker 1: with God.
- 22:23Speaker 2: And this is what he wouldn't, he wouldn't stand for that.
- 22:25Speaker 1: It wasn't just like every time he saw any sort
- 22:28Speaker 1: of anything, he went out and turned over a table.
- 22:30Speaker 1: Like it was a very specific thing for him that
- 22:32Speaker 1: was corrupting the actual kingdom of God. Um, but I
- 22:38Speaker 1: think on the, on the whole, then he was willing
- 22:39Speaker 1: to let those same people kill him, you know, and
- 22:42Speaker 1: he was willing to forgive. So I think that love
- 22:45Speaker 1: driving us to fight is a hard concept, but I
- 22:50Speaker 1: think it all goes back to, we talked about that
- 22:51Speaker 1: last week a little bit. It all goes back to
- 22:53Speaker 1: what kind of love is it? Is it earthly love?
- 22:56Speaker 1: Is it, is it the kingdom love and how do
- 22:58Speaker 1: I evaluate it?
- 22:59Speaker 2: Right.
- 22:59Speaker 3: Well, John, I'll just say when I fight you and
- 23:01Speaker 3: it's coming, when I eventually fight you, An attempt to
- 23:05Speaker 3: vanquish you. And successfully vanquish you.
- 23:09Speaker 2: Yeah, it won't be hard.
- 23:10Speaker 3: It won't be because of what's in front of me.
- 23:14Speaker 3: It will be because I love what's behind me.
- 23:17Speaker 2: What's behind?
- 23:18Speaker 3: Well, right now it's just.
- 23:19Speaker 2: It's just a wall.
- 23:19Speaker 3: It's just your door. But figuratively... It won't be for that.
- 23:25Speaker 3: It'll be for things I love. It won't be because
- 23:27Speaker 3: I hate you.
- 23:27Speaker 1: No.
- 23:28Speaker 3: You're just in my way. Yeah.
- 23:30Speaker 2: You were just trying to get to the buffet and...
- 23:32Speaker 2: And I was right there.
- 23:33Speaker 3: I love what's behind you, which is the buffet. And
- 23:36Speaker 3: I got to get through you to get to it. John,
- 23:39Speaker 3: let's do my segments. First one's Johnny's old jokes. We
- 23:41Speaker 3: call it Joke About That. John, a police officer pulls
- 23:51Speaker 3: over a semi-truck. He gets the usual license and registration.
- 23:53Speaker 3: But he hears strange noises coming from the trailer.
- 23:56Speaker 2: So he decides to investigate. Inside, he finds 50 penguins.
- 23:59Speaker 2: So this is a true story.
- 24:02Speaker 3: Sir, why do you have 50 penguins in your truck?
- 24:05Speaker 3: The officer asks the driver. Well, they're my friends, and
- 24:07Speaker 3: we like to go on journeys together in my truck,
- 24:09Speaker 3: the man replies. I'm sorry, sir, but you can't just
- 24:11Speaker 3: own 50 penguins. I'm afraid you're going to have to
- 24:14Speaker 3: take them to the zoo. The man agrees and drives off.
- 24:17Speaker 3: The next day, the same cop pulls the truck over
- 24:19Speaker 3: again and once again hears strange noises in the trailer.
- 24:21Speaker 3: He goes to check and finds the same 50 penguins.
- 24:23Speaker 3: I thought I told you to take these penguins to
- 24:25Speaker 3: the zoo yesterday, the cop angrily tells the driver.
- 24:27Speaker 2: I did. They loved it. Today we're going to the beach.
- 24:33Speaker 3: It's kind of a fun.
- 24:34Speaker 2: I like that.
- 24:35Speaker 3: Tell that one to see what she thinks.
- 24:37Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 24:38Speaker 3: Okay, John. So we're going to have a little hybrid
- 24:40Speaker 3: scenario because this week in history is coming, but fast
- 24:44Speaker 3: on its heels. I wanted to kind of set into
- 24:47Speaker 3: it a prequel joke that leads into this week in history.
- 24:52Speaker 3: So it's, we've never done it before, but I want
- 24:54Speaker 3: to start with an old Mitch Hedberg joke. Mitch Hedberg,
- 24:57Speaker 3: one of the, again, he's a Mount Rushmore kind of
- 24:59Speaker 3: a comic. I know we only have four. on Mount
- 25:01Speaker 3: Rushmore technically, but Mitch Hedberg, probably if you think of
- 25:03Speaker 3: a one-liner comedians or people who do like absurdist comedy, yeah.
- 25:08Speaker 2: Mitch Hedberg would.
- 25:08Speaker 3: Be like, it'd be him. Steven, right. Maybe Dimitri Martin,
- 25:11Speaker 3: depending on your age.
- 25:12Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 25:13Speaker 3: But Mitch Hedberg, incredible, incredible. Mitch Hedberg famously said an
- 25:17Speaker 3: escalator can never break. It can only become stairs. You
- 25:21Speaker 3: should never see an escalator temporarily out of order. Son,
- 25:24Speaker 3: just escalator temporarily stairs. Sorry for the convenience.
- 25:29Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 25:30Speaker 3: And so with that, we will lead now into This
- 25:32Speaker 3: Week in History. We call it Talk About Then. John,
- 25:41Speaker 3: this week, 1892, the first escalator is patented.
- 25:46Speaker 2: Man, that's early.
- 25:47Speaker 3: By American inventor Jesse Wilford Reno. The idea for his
- 25:52Speaker 3: inclined elevator, this is air quotes I'm giving, was originally
- 25:56Speaker 3: part of his proposal to build the underground New York
- 25:58Speaker 3: City subway. Okay. The subway proposal was rejected, but the
- 26:02Speaker 3: inclined elevator caught on. It included a rubber-coated moving handrail,
- 26:06Speaker 3: which that stayed, right? The handrail that goes a little
- 26:10Speaker 3: faster than the steps somehow.
- 26:11Speaker 2: You're like, ah, here it goes.
- 26:13Speaker 3: And a comb of projected fingers on the ends to
- 26:17Speaker 3: help prevent feet from getting caught in the mechanism. Again,
- 26:20Speaker 3: that's still a design element. So he nailed it, whatever
- 26:24Speaker 3: he did. The first one was demonstrated at Coney Island,
- 26:27Speaker 3: New York, and transported some 75,000 people during its two-week
- 26:32Speaker 3: stay there. So it was a mobile thing, machine. And
- 26:36Speaker 3: then it was moved to Manhattan, the Manhattan entrance of
- 26:40Speaker 3: the Brooklyn Bridge.
- 26:41Speaker 2: Wow.
- 26:42Speaker 3: So that's a big hub. So it got to Coney Island. Yeah.
- 26:46Speaker 3: 75,000 people.
- 26:46Speaker 2: All right. Dry run.
- 26:48Speaker 3: Nobody died. Nobody got sucked into the gears or whatever. Yeah.
- 26:52Speaker 3: Let's move it to the Brooklyn Bridge.
- 26:54Speaker 2: Were you afraid as a kid of getting sucked into
- 26:56Speaker 2: the gears?
- 26:56Speaker 1: Always.
- 26:56Speaker 3: And my mom's terrified of everything. She was one of
- 26:58Speaker 3: those overprotective moms. So it was always like, kids, watch your.
- 27:02Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 27:03Speaker 3: Watch yourselves.
- 27:04Speaker 2: Your pant cuff.
- 27:05Speaker 3: You know, it's always.
- 27:06Speaker 2: Your shoestrings. Yeah. But there are the.
- 27:09Speaker 3: It does happen. Every now and then a shoestring gets
- 27:11Speaker 3: pulled in, some kid's hair, whatever. It can happen.
- 27:13Speaker 2: It would hurt.
- 27:14Speaker 3: It would hurt.
- 27:15Speaker 2: And we just pull it out, but it would hurt
- 27:16Speaker 2: on the way. Yeah.
- 27:18Speaker 3: It's not your best day.
- 27:19Speaker 1: No.
- 27:20Speaker 3: John, speaking of not your best day, this week... in 1661,
- 27:24Speaker 3: the last person was hanged in Boston just for being
- 27:27Speaker 3: a Quaker. Did you know this? The people were hanged
- 27:30Speaker 3: for being Quakers?
- 27:31Speaker 2: You hanged the peaceful people?
- 27:32Speaker 3: When I think of being a Quaker, I don't think
- 27:35Speaker 3: of like, we got to stop them. But this is
- 27:37Speaker 3: where religious extremism comes in because William Ledra was hanged
- 27:42Speaker 3: this week, 1661, for returning to Boston after banishment for
- 27:46Speaker 3: being a Quaker. At the time, it was a crime
- 27:48Speaker 3: in Boston to be a Quaker. Quakers or a Christian
- 27:50Speaker 3: religious group that believes God speaks directly to individuals and
- 27:53Speaker 3: not just through the clergy.
- 27:54Speaker 2: So here we go.
- 27:55Speaker 3: Which was considered heresy to the Puritans. So the Puritans
- 27:58Speaker 3: and the Quakers were like, no, sir. They fought. They
- 28:03Speaker 3: didn't just love what was behind them. They hated what
- 28:05Speaker 3: was in front of them.
- 28:05Speaker 2: Come on now.
- 28:06Speaker 3: Back to your quote. As he was being prepared for
- 28:09Speaker 3: the gallows, he said, forbearing my testimony for the Lord
- 28:13Speaker 3: against deceivers and the deceived, I am brought here to suffer.
- 28:17Speaker 3: Punishments for being a Quaker included being Branded with an
- 28:20Speaker 3: H for heretic. Boring through the tongue with a hot iron.
- 28:25Speaker 3: I mean, these people, just for, oh my gosh, lashings,
- 28:28Speaker 3: ears chopped off, and banishment. I would take banishment. I
- 28:32Speaker 3: don't know why banishment was last.
- 28:33Speaker 2: Yeah, can I just choose banishment right now?
- 28:35Speaker 3: When you're building a list, and you got boring through
- 28:37Speaker 3: your tongue with a hot iron, and then you go,
- 28:39Speaker 3: or we could ask you to leave.
- 28:41Speaker 2: I would go banishment, then lashes. Start with banishment. I'll
- 28:45Speaker 2: take it. Banishment for $ 20, Bob. Good grief.
- 28:49Speaker 3: Between 1659 and 1661, rather, two-year period, four Quakers were
- 28:53Speaker 3: hanging in Boston and becoming known as the Boston Martyrs.
- 28:58Speaker 3: King Charles II put an end to the execution in
- 29:01Speaker 3: 1661 shortly after Leder's hanging, so he was the last.
- 29:04Speaker 2: We're a little late there, Charles.
- 29:05Speaker 3: Yeah, come on, Charles. How about banishment as a policy? Quakers,
- 29:09Speaker 3: also called the Religious Society of Friends, are a Christian
- 29:13Speaker 3: religious group who generally are united in belief of the
- 29:15Speaker 3: ability of each person to experientially access that of God
- 29:18Speaker 3: in everyone. They are known for the refusal to participate
- 29:21Speaker 3: in war, wearing a plain dress, like yourself, refusal to
- 29:26Speaker 3: swear oaths, like yourself. I'll be there. I just left
- 29:29Speaker 3: the house. That's John's oath.
- 29:31Speaker 2: Hey, I'm on my way. Who was at lunch first today?
- 29:33Speaker 3: I'm on my way. Are you, John?
- 29:36Speaker 2: I was.
- 29:37Speaker 3: You'll never be a Quaker. Opposition to slavery and teetotalism.
- 29:43Speaker 3: So it's a balance. You know, they're like.
- 29:49Speaker 2: Slavery is bad. So is booze.
- 29:50Speaker 3: And we hold those each in equal disdain.
- 29:53Speaker 2: One of those I agree with.
- 29:54Speaker 3: Yeah. We know which one. John, finally, this week in 1894,
- 29:59Speaker 3: I've included this one because it's a friend of the show.
- 30:04Speaker 3: Not a sponsor yet.
- 30:05Speaker 2: Maybe they could be.
- 30:06Speaker 3: It would be nice.
- 30:06Speaker 2: Maybe after this.
- 30:07Speaker 3: This would be a big sponsor. The soft drink Coca-Cola
- 30:10Speaker 3: is sold in bottles for the first time. The soft
- 30:13Speaker 3: drink Coca-Cola was invented by John S. Pemberton in 1886.
- 30:16Speaker 2: Who called it?
- 30:16Speaker 3: Do you want to know what it is? it was
- 30:18Speaker 3: originally called? Coca-Cola?
- 30:20Speaker 1: I don't know, but a minute ago you said Coca-Cola
- 30:22Speaker 1: like somebody, like our grandparents would say.
- 30:24Speaker 2: Coca-Cola. Soda Pop?
- 30:26Speaker 1: John, let me just say this. Is it a derivative
- 30:29Speaker 1: of the name?
- 30:30Speaker 3: It is not even close.
- 30:32Speaker 2: It is a terrible, terrible name. Go for it then.
- 30:35Speaker 1: Tonic?
- 30:36Speaker 3: Esteemed brain tonic, and intellectual beverage. Esteemed brain tonic? First
- 30:41Speaker 3: of all, none of that fits on a bottle. It's
- 30:43Speaker 3: a gigantic, it's a novel. Hey, can you get me
- 30:47Speaker 3: an esteemed brain tonic and intellectual beverage real quick?
- 30:50Speaker 2: They're like, you mean Coca-Cola?
- 30:51Speaker 3: Yeah, whatever.
- 30:52Speaker 1: They got an EBT or whatever. Give me an EBT
- 30:54Speaker 1: and a Coca-Cola. EBT, I'd be eb-timate.
- 31:01Speaker 2: Ebtimate. It just rolls right off the tongue. It's horrible.
- 31:04Speaker 2: I tell you.
- 31:05Speaker 1: And it's all in flowing cursive, probably. But Coca-Cola had
- 31:08Speaker 1: to sound weird, too, to them. Right.
- 31:10Speaker 2: A cola. Were there other colas?
- 31:12Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 31:13Speaker 2: That they had to be like, we're Coca-Cola.
- 31:14Speaker 1: Yeah, because it had cocaine. Well, no, but I'm saying— Well,
- 31:16Speaker 1: it was from the Coca plant. But I'm saying, were
- 31:18Speaker 1: there other colas.
- 31:19Speaker 3: At the time?
- 31:20Speaker 2: Yes. I think cola— In the cola world, we're the Coca-Cola.
- 31:23Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 31:24Speaker 2: Actually— Because there was Pepsi-Cola. Go watch Food for the
- 31:26Speaker 2: World of America.
- 31:27Speaker 3: Was Pepsi-Cola already around?
- 31:28Speaker 2: No. Go watch Food to Build America.
- 31:31Speaker 1: There's all kinds of weird things that come out of
- 31:32Speaker 1: those like drugstore apothecary kind of things at that time.
- 31:36Speaker 2: It's so weird because it's easy for us to think
- 31:37Speaker 2: of like we've evolved.
- 31:38Speaker 3: Like they had brain tonics they were buying, which now
- 31:41Speaker 3: we just drink as sodas.
- 31:44Speaker 2: It's all over Instagram right now.
- 31:45Speaker 3: But I'm saying it's still around. Like people are being like–
- 31:48Speaker 3: if I say, for instance, I've stopped taking melatonin because
- 31:52Speaker 3: it gives me headaches and I realize it now that
- 31:53Speaker 3: that's what's giving me headaches. And that's a certain percentage
- 31:56Speaker 3: of people that take melatonin. They get headaches. And I
- 31:58Speaker 3: realize now I'll wake up with a headache like once
- 32:00Speaker 3: a week, a horrible headache. It's the melatonin. So I've
- 32:02Speaker 3: stopped taking it. And I'm like asking Curry, like, what
- 32:04Speaker 3: should I take instead? I don't want to get on
- 32:06Speaker 3: diphenhydramine because that could be bad for me, too. And
- 32:10Speaker 3: then she looked it up and it's like a million,
- 32:12Speaker 3: like all of the diffuser people. The essential oils people
- 32:16Speaker 3: come out of the woodwork in these search results. Oh,
- 32:19Speaker 3: it's magnesium. It's this.
- 32:20Speaker 2: It's, you know, cloves.
- 32:22Speaker 3: And you've got to drape garlic over your chest. I
- 32:25Speaker 3: don't know what you do. A salve that I have to.
- 32:27Speaker 2: Leeches. It is.
- 32:28Speaker 3: It's like we're in. It's easy to be like we've
- 32:31Speaker 3: come out of the dark ages and there's no brain tonics.
- 32:33Speaker 3: But then yet we do have like. It's just I
- 32:36Speaker 3: don't think we're ever going to really graduate from that
- 32:38Speaker 3: idea of like people want health.
- 32:43Speaker 2: But they want also just like. Chug something to get it. Yeah.
- 32:46Speaker 2: You know?
- 32:47Speaker 3: Like, just give me a tonic.
- 32:48Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 32:48Speaker 3: Or I want to enjoy this soda, but it's easier to.
- 32:51Speaker 2: Enjoy if I think I'm doing something good for myself. Like,
- 32:54Speaker 2: this isn't a Yoo-Hoo.
- 32:54Speaker 3: This is a chocolate tonic.
- 32:56Speaker 2: Well. You got to shake it. This is why I
- 32:58Speaker 2: drink coffee, because, you know, they say people who drink
- 33:00Speaker 2: coffee live longer.
- 33:01Speaker 3: Is that right?
- 33:02Speaker 2: I wrote about it in the Ultimate Guide for the
- 33:04Speaker 2: Avid Endorsement.
- 33:05Speaker 3: Oh, a book plug from John.
- 33:07Speaker 2: It's an award-winning.
- 33:08Speaker 3: It is an award-winning book. How would someone acquire said book, John?
- 33:11Speaker 2: Probably just go to Amazon.
- 33:12Speaker 3: Is that the best way?
- 33:13Speaker 2: That's your best buy. Do you get paid? Yeah. Okay,
- 33:16Speaker 2: all right.
- 33:17Speaker 3: Well, you can go to johndriver.com. The ultimate guide for
- 33:20Speaker 3: the avid endorsement.
- 33:21Speaker 2: I actually really stand by that book. Well, I mean,
- 33:23Speaker 2: why would you not? It won gold at the American
- 33:26Speaker 2: Book Fest for humor. Yeah, it was number one.
- 33:29Speaker 3: I won bronze and hadn't even written a book. They
- 33:33Speaker 3: were just like, is anybody out here? Has anyone read
- 33:36Speaker 3: a book?
- 33:36Speaker 2: This guy?
- 33:37Speaker 3: No. That's a high.
- 33:39Speaker 2: I don't like to brag, Johnny, but no one's ever
- 33:43Speaker 2: heard of that.
- 33:44Speaker 3: Are the awards going to end up on this wall
- 33:45Speaker 3: behind us?
- 33:46Speaker 2: You know what? I haven't figured out the awards yet.
- 33:49Speaker 2: The big trophy case of John? The shrine to yourself?
- 33:52Speaker 2: I think what I want to do, and this is
- 33:54Speaker 2: weird because you're going to make fun of me on
- 33:56Speaker 2: it and so will Andrew.
- 33:56Speaker 3: That's part of the show.
- 33:57Speaker 2: So it'll mess with me. Because I don't want to
- 34:00Speaker 2: be that guy also.
- 34:01Speaker 1: But I mean, it's not just to honor yourself. It's like,
- 34:04Speaker 1: these are my life experiences. Well, that's really what I'm
- 34:06Speaker 1: trying to make The Office, about my life experiences. And
- 34:08Speaker 1: I'm trying to have less.
- 34:09Speaker 3: Well, the books you've collaborated on, it's easier to do
- 34:11Speaker 3: because you're the collaborator, so you're honoring the other person, too.
- 34:13Speaker 2: Well, I want a picture of me.
- 34:14Speaker 3: In equal measure.
- 34:15Speaker 1: Like, I want not-so-black-and-white with me and Reggie in New
- 34:19Speaker 1: York at the studios for Good Morning America.
- 34:22Speaker 3: That's great. Can it be a black-and-white photo? Come on now.
- 34:24Speaker 3: Wouldn't that be a nice little.
- 34:25Speaker 2: Play on the concept?
- 34:26Speaker 3: Not-so.
- 34:27Speaker 2: And then I want one of me and Mr.
- 34:29Speaker 1: Haslam when he, you know, he won a business book
- 34:31Speaker 1: award for that, uh, for co-piloting and he's 93, four now,
- 34:37Speaker 1: you know, amazing book, Tennessee history, all the things, Tennessee
- 34:40Speaker 1: football history. Um, and I want one with, uh, maybe
- 34:44Speaker 1: with Pat Bradley for, um, born for rescue.
- 34:47Speaker 2: They do such amazing work.
- 34:49Speaker 1: Um, we support them to end sex trafficking and, East
- 34:52Speaker 1: Africa and also in the United States.
- 34:54Speaker 2: Um, yeah, I just, again, I want to have a picture,
- 34:56Speaker 2: you know, Tyler Trent.
- 34:58Speaker 1: I mean, I got a great picture of me and
- 34:59Speaker 1: him at the college football hall of fame when he
- 35:01Speaker 1: won the Disney spirit award.
- 35:02Speaker 3: Let me just say that I was that guy when
- 35:05Speaker 3: I started my comedy career that I got the fast
- 35:07Speaker 3: forward button hit for me by Tim Hawkins. He took
- 35:10Speaker 3: me on the road. I was four years in. And
- 35:12Speaker 3: so I never really did the whole thing of like,
- 35:13Speaker 3: I'm going to take a bunch of photos with Tim
- 35:15Speaker 3: on the road of the shows. Cause I didn't want to,
- 35:17Speaker 3: I almost was like, I'm not making any sudden movements.
- 35:19Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 35:19Speaker 3: Yeah. I want to act like I've been here.
- 35:21Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 35:21Speaker 3: And it's one of my big regrets that I don't
- 35:24Speaker 3: have a ton of photos from those shows of being
- 35:25Speaker 3: on the bus with Tim and hanging out. Like I
- 35:27Speaker 3: was afraid to like, so I dimmed my light for
- 35:31Speaker 3: people a little bit. That was a, that was a mistake.
- 35:33Speaker 3: Rick Roberts, who's our dear friend of the show. He
- 35:35Speaker 3: said the regret from his career of all those years
- 35:37Speaker 3: on the road, being a road dog comic. He goes,
- 35:39Speaker 3: I worked with every major comic that you can think
- 35:41Speaker 3: of that now is a big, because we work together
- 35:44Speaker 3: and I don't have photos with them. And I wish
- 35:45Speaker 3: I did.
- 35:46Speaker 1: You know, what's crazy is I went to look for
- 35:47Speaker 1: a picture of me and Tim and Because I went
- 35:50Speaker 1: out with y'all some and I wrote his book with
- 35:52Speaker 1: him and.
- 35:53Speaker 2: I can't find any, not one.
- 35:54Speaker 3: It's a bummer.
- 35:55Speaker 1: But surely that time that you and I were on
- 35:56Speaker 1: the bus together for that, what is it, four day
- 35:59Speaker 1: tour or whatever?
- 36:00Speaker 3: We just wouldn't have thought like, hey, let's stop and
- 36:02Speaker 3: we just were experiencing it. Yeah. We think we're better
- 36:04Speaker 3: because we're like, we're not those people that stop and
- 36:06Speaker 3: take photos. But you need one photo.
- 36:08Speaker 2: I see one.
- 36:09Speaker 3: Take one photo.
- 36:10Speaker 2: There's got to be one out there. Where are all
- 36:12Speaker 2: your photos?
- 36:13Speaker 3: Oh, I don't know.
- 36:13Speaker 2: Like I'm saying, do you have a cache?
- 36:15Speaker 3: I guess they're in the cloud or.
- 36:17Speaker 2: Like, you need to start searching. Yeah, you're right. You
- 36:19Speaker 2: might find stuff that'll go on my wall.
- 36:21Speaker 3: Oh, can I make the wall?
- 36:22Speaker 2: Yeah. I'll send it over.
- 36:24Speaker 3: All right. Get your printer ink ready, buddy.
- 36:27Speaker 2: Come on, man.
- 36:27Speaker 3: It's coming.
- 36:28Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 36:28Speaker 3: I don't know. Well.
- 36:30Speaker 2: You don't know?
- 36:31Speaker 3: I don't.
- 36:32Speaker 2: Is that the end of.
- 36:33Speaker 3: I think that's the end of this. Wait, hold on. Yeah,
- 36:35Speaker 3: that was it. That was it. I will say this
- 36:37Speaker 3: about Coca-Cola, though. You're a Coke Zero person, and I
- 36:40Speaker 3: think Coke Zero is awful.
- 36:41Speaker 2: It tastes just like Coke. It doesn't at all.
- 36:44Speaker 1: You.
- 36:45Speaker 3: Listen, I need listeners to please send us a note
- 36:48Speaker 3: if you agree with me. And it's not just because
- 36:51Speaker 3: I'm addicted to Diet Coke. Diet Coke is better than
- 36:53Speaker 3: Coke Zero.
- 36:54Speaker 2: I think I disagree with you and everything you stand for.
- 36:57Speaker 3: Now, my favorite diet drink is Dr. Pepper Zero Sugar
- 37:00Speaker 3: because it tastes more like Dr.
- 37:01Speaker 2: Pepper for me.
- 37:02Speaker 3: It's very good.
- 37:03Speaker 2: Diet Coke tastes nothing like Coke. Can you admit that?
- 37:06Speaker 3: Yes, but it has its own thing.
- 37:07Speaker 2: But you like its own thing.
- 37:08Speaker 3: Well, I like not having 150 calories per eight ounces.
- 37:11Speaker 2: I can respect someone.
- 37:13Speaker 3: Because I'm going to drink a lot of them.
- 37:14Speaker 1: I can respect someone who likes something that's awful just
- 37:16Speaker 1: because they like it.
- 37:17Speaker 2: That's fine. If they know that it's different than the original.
- 37:20Speaker 3: Said by the guy who drinks like Topo Chico or
- 37:22Speaker 3: whatever the heck mineral water you drink.
- 37:24Speaker 2: I like Topo Chico.
- 37:25Speaker 3: It's all bitter. Like water should not taste like anything.
- 37:27Speaker 3: It tastes like ore.
- 37:29Speaker 2: That's how you get your water.
- 37:30Speaker 3: It tastes like iron ore.
- 37:31Speaker 2: Iron ore. Like, hmm, this is a tonic. There's a
- 37:35Speaker 2: little bit of hair on your teeth.
- 37:36Speaker 3: Stop it, John. I like it.
- 37:38Speaker 2: Tonic water. Give me some more platinum.
- 37:39Speaker 3: I'm only upset about it because tonic water killed my father.
- 37:42Speaker 2: Did it? Oh, that was.
- 37:44Speaker 1: You know, I tell that joke so much, and people don't.
- 37:46Speaker 3: People don't laugh.
- 37:47Speaker 2: They don't know what to do.
- 37:48Speaker 3: It's fun. I like putting people on edge.
- 37:49Speaker 2: I almost ran into someone. I do it all the time.
- 37:51Speaker 2: You say, that's what killed dad? I say, killed my uncle. Yeah.
- 37:54Speaker 1: Like, I almost ran someone over running back and forth.
- 37:57Speaker 1: They were putting food out for Sunday morning.
- 37:59Speaker 2: I was like, oop, I almost ran into you. That's
- 38:00Speaker 2: what killed my uncle. Uncle's not as funny.
- 38:03Speaker 3: I don't know why. Dad feels more personal. It feels
- 38:06Speaker 3: like it's going to have trauma associated with it. You're
- 38:09Speaker 3: not necessarily being close to your uncle.
- 38:12Speaker 1: I think that's the point. I'm trying to distance myself from...
- 38:15Speaker 1: You start joking about your dad dying. You've got to
- 38:18Speaker 1: be a real comedian to do that.
- 38:19Speaker 3: I think where it came from, honestly, that idea in
- 38:21Speaker 3: my head, because I've been saying that for years, something
- 38:23Speaker 3: really random and strange would happen, and I'd go, that's
- 38:24Speaker 3: what killed my dad. Uh, and it's just something funny
- 38:27Speaker 3: I would say, but I think that the root of
- 38:29Speaker 3: that joke in my mind is from naked gun. When
- 38:32Speaker 3: the guy, the villain falls off the railing at the stadium,
- 38:36Speaker 3: he lands and then a steamroller steamrolls him. And then
- 38:40Speaker 3: a marching band walks over the pancake body. And then
- 38:43Speaker 3: Leslie Nielsen goes, what a horrible way to die. My
- 38:45Speaker 3: father died. I think that's where the, the, the kernel of,
- 38:49Speaker 3: I thought that was so funny as a kid. What
- 38:52Speaker 3: a funny, I don't know, but Leslie Nielsen, uh, rest
- 38:54Speaker 3: in peace.
- 38:55Speaker 1: Was that, Was that the same movie where the steamroller's
- 38:58Speaker 1: coming forever?
- 38:59Speaker 3: No, that's Austin Powers.
- 39:01Speaker 2: That's Austin Powers.
- 39:02Speaker 3: Well, what a great— I think Mike Myers has said that
- 39:04Speaker 3: is his favorite visual of anything he's ever done. That's
- 39:07Speaker 3: his favorite gag, which is— I mean, that's a great career.
- 39:11Speaker 3: When you think about all the things Mike Myers has done,
- 39:13Speaker 3: and he goes, this is the one where you're just, no!
- 39:16Speaker 3: And the guy won't move, and the steamroller slowly rolls over.
- 39:19Speaker 1: It reminded me a little bit of the basketball— video
- 39:21Speaker 1: we did for the three and three tournament yeah where
- 39:24Speaker 1: we had andrew walk over this hill and we had
- 39:26Speaker 1: staying alive playing just the music looped over and over
- 39:29Speaker 1: again and we had him like we kept panning back
- 39:33Speaker 1: to us and panning him he was always really really
- 39:35Speaker 1: really far away right.
- 39:37Speaker 2: And then we did like five times.
- 39:39Speaker 3: That's monty python and then all.
- 39:41Speaker 1: Of a sudden he's right and we kind of he's
- 39:44Speaker 1: right there yeah.
- 39:45Speaker 3: We revolutionized church videos for.
- 39:48Speaker 2: There's a lot. There is a lot. And I got
- 39:50Speaker 2: to get with Jeffrey. I know he listens.
- 39:53Speaker 1: So he helped me today with some things on hard drive.
- 39:55Speaker 1: And Jeffrey, I do owe you money. I said I
- 39:56Speaker 1: would pay you. But he's going to help me do
- 39:59Speaker 1: the best job of pulling stills out of videos. Oh,
- 40:03Speaker 1: because I will tell you one that's going to go
- 40:04Speaker 1: on the wall. It's going to be music. on the
- 40:08Speaker 1: scooter and you chasing the Big Mac. I've got to
- 40:11Speaker 1: have that picture.
- 40:11Speaker 3: Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 40:12Speaker 2: That's got to be there.
- 40:13Speaker 3: All right. I remember that one. We have so many
- 40:15Speaker 3: stupid videos. Such fun. Such fun. Well, don't we have
- 40:19Speaker 3: fun here on the show?
- 40:20Speaker 2: We sure do, Johnny.
- 40:21Speaker 3: You know what?
- 40:22Speaker 2: Thank you guys for joining us in the fun.
- 40:23Speaker 1: You should check out all the other episodes at TalkAboutThatPodcast.com
- 40:27Speaker 1: where you can find out about the journey that led
- 40:30Speaker 1: us to where we are today.
- 40:32Speaker 2: We usually suggest starting in the present and then working backwards.
- 40:35Speaker 2: I think that's the best way to go.
- 40:37Speaker 3: But not in life.
- 40:38Speaker 2: No, no.
- 40:39Speaker 3: Stay in the present. Work towards a better future.
- 40:41Speaker 2: Right. Try to avoid the past.
- 40:43Speaker 3: Make your own podcast. Wait, that's not. Everybody's already doing
- 40:47Speaker 3: that probably.
- 40:47Speaker 1: They are.
- 40:49Speaker 3: I wonder how many podcasts we've inspired. Have you ever
- 40:51Speaker 3: thought about that?
- 40:52Speaker 2: I know of at least one. Really?
- 40:54Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 40:54Speaker 2: You know what someone said to me the other day?
- 40:55Speaker 2: It was so funny. Because people listen and go, I
- 40:58Speaker 2: could do this crap. They're horrible.
- 41:00Speaker 3: It's easy.
- 41:02Speaker 1: One of our mutual friends, he said he feels like
- 41:05Speaker 1: This is how we all catch up.
- 41:06Speaker 2: We don't get to see each other that much. Right.
- 41:08Speaker 1: And he was like, but the problem is, is I'm
- 41:10Speaker 1: talking to y'all, but you don't know what I'm saying.
- 41:13Speaker 1: He's like, you know, what I should do is I
- 41:14Speaker 1: should start a podcast. That's just rebuttal of yours.
- 41:17Speaker 3: Oh, that'd be great.
- 41:17Speaker 2: And so then he listens to ours. We listen to his.
- 41:19Speaker 2: And that's how we like.
- 41:20Speaker 3: State of the union, like where they always have. Now
- 41:22Speaker 3: the democratic response or whatever.
- 41:24Speaker 2: Right. Everything he said was a lie. Now back to you.
- 41:28Speaker 2: Now back to you, Bob. So just the one note. Okay.
- 41:30Speaker 3: Just the one note.
- 41:31Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 41:32Speaker 2: You should check out.
- 41:33Speaker 1: Johnny W, J-O-N-N-I-E-W.com for all the new tour dates that
- 41:37Speaker 1: are coming up.
- 41:38Speaker 3: Yeah, come to the live show. Live comedy is great.
- 41:40Speaker 3: It's one of those things where if you watch a clip,
- 41:42Speaker 3: I appreciate it and I get like half a nickel
- 41:44Speaker 3: and I appreciate your views. But also, come to a
- 41:46Speaker 3: live show. I think you're going to find that comedy
- 41:48Speaker 3: is so much better in the room.
- 41:50Speaker 1: Yeah, and if you listen to the podcast or watch
- 41:52Speaker 1: it on YouTube, come find Johnny at the table and
- 41:54Speaker 1: tell him.
- 41:54Speaker 2: That always means a lot to us.
- 41:55Speaker 3: Yes, it does. And people always are like, somebody said
- 41:58Speaker 3: that they listen and their kids are in the car.
- 41:59Speaker 3: This is the last weekend I just did. And they said, oh,
- 42:01Speaker 3: this one. And so when I told him, this is
- 42:04Speaker 3: the guys, we listen to their podcast, and they're like,
- 42:06Speaker 3: which one is it? And he goes, it's the real
- 42:07Speaker 3: tall one. That's what they described me. I was like, okay,
- 42:10Speaker 3: that could have gone a lot of ways.
- 42:12Speaker 2: I did the ugly joke at the restaurant again today. Yeah,
- 42:14Speaker 2: and the guy told me that, too, when I got there.
- 42:16Speaker 2: He goes, he said, your buddy is here.
- 42:19Speaker 3: He goes, are you Johnny? I go, yeah. He goes,
- 42:20Speaker 3: your buddy said that a real tall, ugly guy was
- 42:23Speaker 3: going to be here and to bring him right to
- 42:25Speaker 3: the table.
- 42:25Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 42:27Speaker 2: Did it hurt? It hurt.
- 42:28Speaker 3: It hurt a little bit. I'm not feeling great about
- 42:31Speaker 3: myself today.
- 42:32Speaker 2: They seemed okay with it this time. It wasn't like
- 42:34Speaker 2: the Uncle Jim. They were like, we'll play along. Fun.
- 42:37Speaker 3: Fun. Then you walked in and you're like, who's got
- 42:39Speaker 3: to play? You gave them permission to call somebody ugly.
- 42:43Speaker 2: Since you're there before me all the time.
- 42:45Speaker 3: What if I'd flown off the handle?
- 42:46Speaker 2: It'd be great if I just like, how dare you?
- 42:48Speaker 3: I'm going to Longhorn.
- 42:49Speaker 2: I don't have to do this. Yeah.
- 42:52Speaker 3: I'm sorry.
- 42:53Speaker 2: My own podcast. Talk about this.
- 42:54Speaker 3: I spend thousands in here. That's a, that's the number one.
- 42:56Speaker 3: That's a very American thing. I know how much money
- 42:58Speaker 3: I spend in here. I used to hear that at
- 43:00Speaker 3: home Depot. I built my house in this place. I'm
- 43:02Speaker 3: going to Lowe's. I go, I don't, sir, I make
- 43:05Speaker 3: six 50 an hour.
- 43:05Speaker 2: That's a lot.
- 43:06Speaker 3: I don't know what to do. I do not know
- 43:07Speaker 3: what to tell you. Thank you for building your house.
- 43:10Speaker 2: Thank you for your service. Um, I have rung up
- 43:12Speaker 2: a lot of lumber.
- 43:13Speaker 3: For you and I appreciate you, but this is not
- 43:15Speaker 3: about that. I just need to see ID for your check.
- 43:17Speaker 2: That's it.
- 43:18Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 43:19Speaker 1: It's always interesting when you're working, um, Because I was
- 43:22Speaker 1: a weed eater man for years. I mean, just filthy, dirty,
- 43:25Speaker 1: covered in, I mean, just nasty. And when you come
- 43:28Speaker 1: around someone's apartment or whatever, we did apartment buildings.
- 43:30Speaker 3: Right.
- 43:31Speaker 1: They just, the way that manual laborers are treated, because
- 43:34Speaker 1: I am a manual laborer. That was my whole life.
- 43:36Speaker 1: And it's always interesting. The little old ladies are usually
- 43:39Speaker 1: really nice to me.
- 43:40Speaker 2: Most of them. Some would be kind of mean.
- 43:41Speaker 1: But people, if they need you to get something inside
- 43:44Speaker 1: their fence or whatever, like, hey. come here and get
- 43:46Speaker 1: inside this fence. You know, it's just like, it's a
- 43:48Speaker 1: real like, Hey, technically I'm not supposed to do that,
- 43:50Speaker 1: but sure.
- 43:50Speaker 3: You know?
- 43:50Speaker 2: And how you treat people that can really like do
- 43:54Speaker 2: nothing for you or, and when nobody's watching, how you
- 43:57Speaker 2: treat service, that is a big character thing for me. Yeah.
- 43:59Speaker 3: It's a big, there's one guy that did a thing.
- 44:02Speaker 3: He said like, the big one is, do you return
- 44:05Speaker 3: the shopping cart to the corral? That's a big one.
- 44:09Speaker 3: If you just like park it by your car and
- 44:10Speaker 3: be like, okay, nobody's here. I gotta go.
- 44:13Speaker 2: I do.
- 44:14Speaker 3: You leave it?
- 44:15Speaker 2: No, I take it back.
- 44:16Speaker 3: You take it back to the corral?
- 44:17Speaker 2: Even walk it back to the store.
- 44:18Speaker 3: You know what I do?
- 44:19Speaker 2: What do you do?
- 44:19Speaker 3: I make Curry take it back to the corral. That's...
- 44:22Speaker 3: I don't know what that says about my character.
- 44:24Speaker 2: Chivalry.
- 44:24Speaker 3: Well, she's... All right, I'll take it. We'll take turns.
- 44:29Speaker 2: Well, do you come pick her up then?
- 44:31Speaker 3: Yeah. Okay.
- 44:32Speaker 2: Well, sometimes.
- 44:33Speaker 3: Unless it's not far away. It's just right over there.
- 44:35Speaker 2: Hey, you should have taken an umbrella.
- 44:37Speaker 3: I'm going to get the car warmed up.
- 44:38Speaker 2: You know.
- 44:41Speaker 3: I love it. I love it.
- 44:42Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 44:43Speaker 1: Hey, guys, we do love it that you listen as
- 44:45Speaker 1: well every week. Let's do it again next week here
- 44:47Speaker 1: on Talk About That.
