- 0:00What's going on everybody and what's going on folks?
- 0:03My name is David and I'm your legendary host of this legendary podcast.
- 0:07Let's go and doing my thing here. You already know.
- 0:13If you hear some little birds chirping in the background, some little noise
- 0:17in the background, you already know.
- 0:18I'm making my moves. I'm over here traveling out
- 0:21abroad in my beautiful island of Puerto Rico doing a
- 0:24little nice little podcast and I figure why not
- 0:27kind of leave it on the theme of hey
- 0:31listen I'm surrounded by a lot of trees and palm trees
- 0:34and a lot of wonderful natural things and I
- 0:37said you know what I there's something that a lot of people don't know and it's
- 0:40I found some amazing stories of what I'm about to talk but once again it's your
- 0:47boy deconstructed topic podcast don't what I mean I'm still a little bit of
- 0:51jet lag you know what I mean you know for the first time.
- 0:55That I could record I travel overnight and
- 0:59it's not bad you know what I mean for those people that do
- 1:02the overnight because it's not that crowded whatever the case
- 1:05I think that the plane was 80 percent but kind of
- 1:08waking up and being early in the morning huh
- 1:12you know it takes a toll because it throws
- 1:14you off especially for those people who tend to wake
- 1:17up at 4 30 in the morning four o'clock
- 1:20in the morning to start their day but there's a difference when
- 1:23you start the day like that or you end the day at that
- 1:26time so you know it's one of those deals where
- 1:29hey we making it happen you already know it's the deconstructing topic podcast
- 1:35so doing just doing my thing doing our thing doing something and you know the
- 1:40other day I was uh kind of like uh trying to remember some of these shows that
- 1:45I used to watch for those out there you already know, hit that sub,
- 1:48subscribe button, hit the share button.
- 1:51Have you guys ever seen the show for those who are of age?
- 1:56Gilligan's Island Yeah,
- 1:59I think that's that show Where people got lost in an island Whatever,
- 2:04their boat crashed Or something to that effect You already know it's a famous
- 2:07show From back in those days In the 70s, 80s I think it might be on syndication
- 2:14Check it out If you have not seen Gilligan's Island,
- 2:17Check it out You know, for those who like comedy You know, you got The Captain You got Gilligan,
- 2:25You got the lady, I forgot her name Ruby, I don't know But you already know,
- 2:29it's a show with a bunch of Different characters that just get stuck in an island
- 2:33And I'm saying to myself Wow, they get stuck in an island You know what I mean?
- 2:38What's new and why can't you tell that it's a comedy But I always I always,
- 2:44Remember the show, there was an episode Of a Japanese soldier Now when I was
- 2:48young You know, I didn't understand why There was a show of this Japanese.
- 2:55Soldier who apparently looks lost like what the hell he came from you know what i mean,
- 3:02and you know sadly for the people that's
- 3:05around me they were just watching the show but they know the
- 3:08story about why there was a japanese how can i say soldier in a show that has
- 3:15to do with the 70s now for those out there you know i'll tell you a little bit
- 3:19of history as you already know that Japan was part of the other side fighting
- 3:24against the United States in World War II.
- 3:26I believe it's the access of power or something to that effect with the Germany,
- 3:32the Nazi Germans and whatnot.
- 3:34So, you know, Japan and so on. And, you know, Japan located in the Pacific,
- 3:39doing their little Pacific thing, invading other little small islands,
- 3:43whether it's Singapore, whether it's China and so on and so forth.
- 3:46So there was a lot of war going on in the theaters of the Pacific So basically, a lot of stuff going on,
- 3:53It's a little backstory just so that you could understand. So we got World War
- 3:57II. It ended officially, my understanding, in 1945.
- 4:02What have happened in the story that I did not know, and it's the story behind Gilligan's Island,
- 4:08is that there were Japanese soldiers who were located, let's say,
- 4:13either they were prisoners of war in Australia and other countries like that,
- 4:17or they were still fighting in these smaller islands, you know, that's in the Pacific.
- 4:23You know, the Pacific is full of beautiful, smaller islands.
- 4:27And basically, those Japanese soldiers did not, how can I say,
- 4:34get the transmission that the war was over.
- 4:37Because they were just somewhere in the island.
- 4:39My understanding is that the individual in the show, the Japanese soldier was
- 4:46in a submarine. And for some reason, he did not get instruction.
- 4:50I'm trying to remember the episode here.
- 4:53You know, I did try to watch it on YouTube But I was like, you know what,
- 4:56let me just do this Because, you know, I'm an emotional person You know what I mean?
- 5:00And when I want to talk about something And I just want to talk about it,
- 5:03I get the urge I got to talk about it now.
- 5:06I'll watch the show later, but I'm just off the ports at what I remember.
- 5:10It's a crazy interesting story because there was one, and I think the most known,
- 5:15it was Heru Nondu, something to that effect.
- 5:19And when I'm doing this little podcast, you know, I do my little research, so on and so forth.
- 5:23But me growing up, and especially in high school, I had a tremendous high school
- 5:28teacher, especially my social study history teacher, shout out to him.
- 5:34He'll tell me He'll tell me about some of these stories You know,
- 5:38not in great length But, you know, a little kind of tip beat You know what I mean?
- 5:41We're talking about like 30 years ago And I'm like, wow So the interesting story,
- 5:47Is again, the war ended in 1945.
- 5:51Now my understanding The Gilligan show is like in the 70s So there were Japanese
- 5:57soldiers Or what they call holdouts That were stuck in these places For 20, 15, 20, 25 years,
- 6:04I think 30 years was probably like the last one in the early 80s.
- 6:08Hebrew, Hindu, I believe it's the Indian individual.
- 6:10Keep in mind is this. So you're a Japanese soldier.
- 6:13And also what I've, you know, hear articles, you know, from what I've read articles
- 6:17is that there were Japanese soldiers that they didn't want to give up.
- 6:20They were being insubordinate to their superiors. And basically,
- 6:25there's like, you know what, there's no way that we've given up or there's no way we give up.
- 6:29Because give in mind, it's this. When Japan surrender, my understanding is that
- 6:34they surrender on a vote of three to two.
- 6:37And that difference would have been the, I don't know if they call the prime minister of Japan.
- 6:42He's the big top dog What they call president He's the emperor of Japan And
- 6:48basically he was that individual That made the tiebreaker So in other words,
- 6:52if it's not him Voting to end and to surrender.
- 6:57The rest is history sadly Japan definitely would have been A much,
- 7:03much different country As
- 7:05we speak because of that Because God knows The
- 7:08American war machine That would have just been
- 7:11destroying that little that island just to
- 7:15oblivion you know what i mean so you already know
- 7:17that also because of the there were stories
- 7:21because of the atomic bomb basically
- 7:24now always keep in mind there was two atomic bombs Hiroshima being the first
- 7:28one August 6th but i'm not mistaken the second one August 9th so there were
- 7:32soldiers who thought that they that Japan was wiped out you know what i mean
- 7:37that it was that's it so like why are they gonna go back why are they They're gonna try to go back.
- 7:43So these Japanese hozans, I think there were hundreds of them and it's like
- 7:48for one to think like, wow, that's crazy.
- 7:51Like we live in a world and at that time, and even now that we still have indigenous
- 7:57people and another story of where there's one story in Brazil,
- 8:04and the individual indigenous that live in the Amazon rainforest.
- 8:09For years by himself. The man in the hole is what they call him.
- 8:13And every time regular civilians try to approach him, because sadly what happened
- 8:16in the Amazon forest or the rainforest, you have these companies want to cut
- 8:21down the trees. You already know.
- 8:23So coming across this individual, he don't even know who the hell are you.
- 8:27So every time somebody of, let's say, more modern setting, let's say me,
- 8:33hey, like, yo, what's good?
- 8:34Yo, yo, my man, like, I need to make space Here you need to get out even though
- 8:38this is your land You know what I mean and the dude don't know Who the hell
- 8:41I am now my mind is like I know you indigenous,
- 8:45But as an indigenous Person who might not have seen other people You probably
- 8:50say like who the hell Are you you know what I mean Ready with their spears You
- 8:56know what I mean their coconut Grenades and all that,
- 8:59They're ready to blow motherfuckers out Sorry for the language I apologize If
- 9:03you got family in there it's Motherflowers you know what I mean.
- 9:07But just going back to that just you know these
- 9:10are the interesting stories that i like to hear because it's like like
- 9:13wow wow wow like you know what i mean especially with the japanese holdouts
- 9:17you know to live there like 20 15 20 years in these little islands surviving
- 9:23based on whatever the natural that's why i was like let me make an episode that
- 9:28has that that little natural theme And I'm over here surrounded by these beautiful,
- 9:33beautiful, nice natural trees,
- 9:36palm trees I can see some of them with coconuts, you know what I mean?
- 9:40Not because Puerto Rico here We have kind of been moving on,
- 9:44kind of trying to develop In a sense to make or create more urban spaces Sadly,
- 9:51some of these beautiful trees, natural trees, they get knocked down.
- 9:56If you was in those Japanese soldiers that was in these little islands,
- 10:01you basically, nature is what kept you alive.
- 10:04Mother nature and all the nature is what kept you alive and survived.
- 10:09My understanding is there's no more holdouts. But sadly, I was reading an article.
- 10:15Sadly, there are those people who want to recognize because sadly what happened is this.
- 10:21A lot of those holdouts, they not want to go back. They not want to fight.
- 10:25Some might have been what they call a war, in a sense.
- 10:30For those who don't know the term, you know, a war could be where,
- 10:33let's say, you're in the military, there's a war.
- 10:35And you decide, you know what, I'm out. And there's been those who deserted.
- 10:39There's those who have deserted during war in many sides.
- 10:44Whether it's American side, whatever side.
- 10:46So you're kind of going to say, ah, these people are, how can I say,
- 10:51they're deserters, traitors.
- 10:53They abandon us. You know what I mean? So basically there are those who are
- 10:58fighting for these individuals to get that recognition.
- 11:02And, you know, it's one of those things that at the same time,
- 11:06because Japan, even though Japan, rich history,
- 11:10culture, its own people, beautiful people, the fact is that United States, you know, it creeps up.
- 11:18And United States has always, and when I'm going to say United States,
- 11:21the powers that be, Whether it's in Puerto Rico,
- 11:24Dominican Republic Any other country Whenever
- 11:27the United States steps in And has their hands on these things They want to
- 11:32make sure that Your people don't know the history Because it's very interesting
- 11:36That despite those that you feel traitor There are those who Who did not want
- 11:43to quit And still battle Wow,
- 11:46Japanese holdouts is what they call them And then the other story is The man
- 11:50in a hole which again, it's one of those things that it gives you that theme,
- 11:53that vibe. What would you do?
- 11:55What would you do if you was a soldier?
- 11:58And you know that your country laws and you're in a little island.
- 12:02You're going to fight or you're going to survive. You know what I mean?
- 12:05And a lot of them, a lot of these Japanese soldiers, they found them with weapons.
- 12:09There are some that were conscious, you know, because it was hundreds.
- 12:11And, you know, these different.
- 12:14I cannot say little clusters of different stories because, again,
- 12:18they all, a lot of them were part of a certain regiment.
- 12:21There are those who might have, let's say, survived, but they had wounds,
- 12:28let's say gunshot wounds, grenades, whatever. They might have passed away during the years.
- 12:34So interesting story. Japanese holdouts is basically the little story.
- 12:38When I saw that Gilligan's Island episode, once again, I'm like,
- 12:43you know. Because you got to keep in mind this, that you already know the propaganda
- 12:48when it comes to the United States.
- 12:51And even in general, the propaganda in the United States has always been,
- 12:56if you're not an outside, we're being true,
- 13:00whether it's through the movies, cartoons, as someone who is ugly,
- 13:05and we already know the history with Japan,
- 13:07black Americans, you know african-americans spanish people
- 13:11we get stereotype as this villain ugly
- 13:15looking non-attractive you know what i mean so that
- 13:19individual with the japanese soldier they just say they're trying to paint him
- 13:23as a villain of the most other villains you know what i mean but anyways so
- 13:27much check it out all the links going to be this in the description what an
- 13:32interesting episode little short episode so just give you an idea of these little
- 13:36stories that you'd be like,
- 13:38well, Thanksgiving is around the corner. Why not have a story to tell?
- 13:42Japanese holdouts. Let's get it. Did you know I was listening to the Deconstructing
- 13:47Topic podcast and what I learned there is about Japanese holdouts from World
- 13:50War II. Let's get it. Much love.
